Fishing for Zennies

"Almost?!" Nightshade chimed, pouting. "I thought I was faster...*mumble mumble*"

"Nightshadeee..." Shane called out his navi. "Be nice. He is trying to teach you more, I think. So make sure to follow his advice, okay?"

The little navi observed the gauntlets he was wearing, opening and closing his hand to test flexibility. "Well...I could learn more if I could wear the whole thing. I guess I need to be real careful not to break this cool armor if I want to keep it on."
With some encouraging words and some more encouraging protectives, the two new acquaintances set to tackling this new cluster of viruses. While Regalia was quickly fitting out his new ally with some fresh armour pieces, the two ghosts giggled and warped up tot he cat-boy, each attempting to slurp at him in a friendly-but-not-friendly manner. One of the oversized tongues waggled at him in the air nearby, ineffective, and though the other was much more on target to his face, the barrier from Regalia's equipment sprung up just in time to stop it short. The ghost pulled back, making a face as its tongue hung limp briefly, apparently number from the sensation of the barrier.

Nightshade was swift to respond, cutting out swiftly with electrified claw attacks that were more than enough to destroy both ghosts for their impropriety. While he deleted the pair, the insectoid Magneaker lobbed a bomb at both of the navis, though something appeared to go wrong with whatever mechanism it used to fire — the stunning static bomb flew far past the pair to crackle into the onsen behind them a long way off. With his ally better protected, Regalia finally put some pants on. Not just any pants, mind you, really sturdy ones. The skeeter swarm thought he was distracted by this process, but it swiftly proved their undoing; they failed to latch onto regalia and in a perfectly timed retaliate his cloak released its lighting and the older gentleman teleported away, destroying the buzzers even as he appeared in the middle of the coal island, ready to mete out more punishment.

As he arrived, the two floating misty viruses, hiding in the steam, rushed in towards him, clustering as they tried to saturate his armour with steam and scald him. The main body of the first one drifted by, however, their target more nimble than he appeared. The other went low, attempting to tangle itself in his legs, and though it successfully hugged his lower regions with scalding steam, Regalia's leggings were more than up to the task of keeping his more sensitive areas safe, and they also ensured that there would be no lingering scorching from the attack a well.

Seeing the knight appear in their midst, the cannon on the island attempted a quick crack shot at him, seemingly in a panic, since it didn't take the time to aim or lock properly. the shot flew wide, splashing into the water behind, just before Regalia engulfed the space in a pall of scorching flames.

The coals melted down, leaving a rounded pool of raw lava in the middle of the onsen; where one met the other, a black obsidian crust formed, amidst the hiss of steam. Of the viruses, only one survived; the bright red Puffy seemed to somehow have avoided the blast fires. Regalia would also notice, coincidentally, that the mystery data beside the cannon had survived too — though an experienced battler like him would also have to realise that it had only endured through sheer dumb luck... best not to let the young one know about that, probably...

As Regalia darted away from his freshly created lava pool, the Puffy attempted to attack Nightshade, who, at this point ,was seeming like an easier target. The bouncing globule of fire that it shot in his direction splashed by as the cat dodged it, but it halted after the next bounce and began making its way back towards him.

MagneakerMagneaker (Magneaker)

Magneaker viruses move and dodge slowly. Magneakers attack by launching MagBombs by default. When there is a stunned enemy on the field, however, they will instead charge at the stunned opponent with surprising speed. They are quick to react to the presence of stunned enemies, and execute this attack with very little delay. The DashAttack counts as a dodge against opponents attacking from any angle except dead-on or from directly behind the Magneaker. Magneakers do not charge at un-stunned enemies, unless there is a stunned target in-line with them. Magneakers have Omnishoes while executing a charge attack.

Lava Bubble: 10Hp [Homing on Nightshade]

Gauntlets: 20Hp [Equipped to Nightshade]
Helmet: 20Hp [Equipped to Nightshade]
Leggings: 36Hp [Equipped to Regalia]

"Good work, lad!" Regalia called out. His eyes caught on the GMD in the lava. "Thomas, send me the sword!" Regalia beckoned, holding his cane high.

"Which one?" Thomas began to ask. "We have-"

"THE Sword!" Regalia repeated.

"Oh, alright." The sounds of clacking and the usual irritation of trying to fit something into the slot it was designed to fit into filtered through the line, and then Regalia's cane began to transform. The wooden cane part disappeared entirely, and the orb at the top thinned and lengthened, turning into a proper handle. The moment Regalia grasped it, light shot out from the handle, and winds began to swirl around the energy blade, creating a distinct howling that filled the entire battlespace.

Behind him, Regalia's cape dimmed, and electricity crackled in the blade handle in its stead. Rather like a spearman throwing a javelin, Regalia hurled the Airsword's handle across the battlefield, buoyed by the winds it commanded. "Nightshade, catch!" The blade was steady as it spun through the air, headed in an arc toward Nightshade. As it neared, the lightning leapt from the handle of the blade, and with a crack-BOOM it lashed out, attempting to strike down the lava bubble before it could attack Nightshade from behind.

With his play made, Regalia turned and ran for the GMD; a Rageclaw formed over his arm as he attempted to prise the GMD free without causing it any damage, and then the elder knight looked out over the battlefield, attempting to see how his protege was doing. He had given Nightshade the tools, but now the Knight wished to see if the catlike navi could deliver.

1: Give AirSword to Nightshade [100 + Slashing + Impact + Gust + Wide Attack; B acc; 2 uses]

Passive: Cape: 20 Elec @ Lava Bubble

2: Rageclaw1: Try to grab GMD from lava

3: Dodge!

4&5: Turn splice if battle continues

*Reminder: Gauntlets and Helmet giving Nightshade 20HP Barrier and 1-hit shield every turn. Leggings curing one status on Regalia every turn.
Nightshade turned around, catching the blade and spinning around coolly. "GOT IT!" He shoulted back, not wishing to waste time. He flew through the battlefield with light and quick steps, gracefully running ontop the water. Zing zagging into an erratic motion, he ended his movement into a full thrust of the blade to the Magneaker. Like a skipping stone, he kept all his momentum, enjoying Regalia's armor empowering his body to no end. Shooting towards the Puffy, he would wave his arm in a full motion to deliver a wide slash at the pesky virus.

"You know Nighty, you should help him too." Shane noted. "He even gave you his weapon..."

"Right! Right! I know!" The little cat chimed, backrolling towards the experienced commander out of danger and back into a relative safe zone. "Regalia! High Five"

As soon as he touched Regalia regardless of his reflex, he released a burst of energy that supercharged Regalia's speed! "Have fun!"

While Regalia tossed his trusty AirSword over to his partner, he made for the Mystery Data crystal quickly, pulling it out of the boiling earth before it could be destroyed. The bubble of lava heading towards Nightshade himself was also destroyed from the blade's sudden discharge, though it didn't prevent him from catching the weapon successfully. Unfortunately, his over-enthusiastic bladework barely missed both of his targets due to his high speed, and the viruses escaped relatively scot-free. He himself wasn't quite hurt either, but the Puffy's attack kept on coming, with yet another lava bubble bouncing towards him as he drew nearer towards Regalia, but not quite on the islet of lava.

Seeing Nightshade's accuracy, or more importantly the lack thereof, the knightly navi shook his head, refusing Nightshade's high five. "You are too naive, still." He said, sighing. "The kill is not a game, nor is it the kill that defines a Knight, or a Knight's valor."

"Thomas, if you would?" Regalia asked.

"Got it." Thomas slotted two chips-- and the first flared to life upon Regalia's left arm, the GMD still held in the Rageclaw on his right. Rime swallowed Regalia's arm, the air around it growing thick and foggy as the condensation turned to cold vapor, and a glowing ball of ice and sleet formed in Regalia's grip, growing in intensity and chill as he held it. Larger, larger, larger still his miniature blizzard raged, and then Regalia threw it much like an angry child throws a snowball in tantrum, striking the ground before him. A wave of ice erupted from the spot, crashing upon itself over and over again as it raced for the Puffy virus...!

Regalia shook the ice from his arm as the wave crashed down for the last time, and behind him the knight's cape crackled, rising up of its own accord. Thunder roared loud enough to shake the very panel firmament, and lightning struck down behind Regalia, forming into eight identical balls of plasma. They swirled around the knight, arcs of electricity connecting him to each and swelling them in size, and then with a simple finger-point they took off, launching one after the other toward the Magneaker as though attempting to home in on it. Each ball of lightning was bright enough to be a struggle to behold, but even beyond the light it was easy to see their hue, a deep, electric blue that rivaled both the sky and the sea in its saturation.

Though almost certain of his victory as he watched the eight orbs of death approach their target, Regalia kept his eyes trained on them both regardless; if he could teach Nightshade even one thing with this battle, it would be not to let his guard down...

Nightshade's hand flopped down, his tail drooping. "Aw..."

"You should focus, Nighty. Doesn't look like Regalia is really a perky navi." Shane chimed in from the other side. "He's more of one of those kinds of people that remain serious all the time."

Nightshade crossed his arms, tapping his paw on the floor, pouting. "Maybe because he's an old fart."

"Nightshade!" Shane scolded. "That's not the way to talk to a friend." he added. The little navi jumped at his NetOp's tone. "Right, Right. I'm sorry."
By way of his knightly actions, Regalia attacked and attack he did to help his impromptu friend. His IceWave was fully on the mark, smashing against the Puffy and deflating it like a balloon as the cold countered the heat, the virus flopping to the ground deleting. The Magneaker was then struck a multitude of times, sending bits of it's body scattering about as it fizzled away with an electrical hiss. Rewards littered the ground for both navis and the GMD that floated there in Regalia's arms, waiting to be opened...but was it another Mimic for Nightshade and pal? Or a cashe of rewards?

FXP: +3 mutual for Virus murdering, +2 for battle interactions
"I am not an 'old fart.'" Regalia grumbled. "I simply do not think of battle as a game. There is always a risk of deletion, even with Emergency Jack-Out, and most viruses will not hesitate to kill you if given the chance." He turned and began to gather the data the viruses had left behind, gathering it into two even piles. One he transmitted back to his PET, the other he handed off to Nightshade.

After gathering up their just rewards, Regalia stood and stared at the GMD he had plucked from the lava.

"There's a chance this could be a trap, or otherwise unfortunate, but... I saw we open it." Regalia said. "What do you think, Nightshade?"
Nightshade quietly hopped over to Regalia's side. He did not know really if that Mystery Data was safe. Instinctively, the little cat navi brushed against the knight as his mind flashed back at his first encounter with a Mimic. Without even realizing, the little navi was seeking protection from the stronger elder program.

He looked down at the gauntles he was still wearing, then up at Regalia's eyes, unsure. "I...don't know. It could be a trap." He mumbled, dubious. Closing his eyes and breathing slowly, he flexed his hands once. "But as long as I'm with you I'm fine. This armor I wear is proof enough. And the more I get the stronger I become. I know I cant do much probably...but if we stay together I think we can do it." He concluded.

Now with more courage than before he nodded to his new acquaintance. "Yes. I think we shoud access it. I am pretty sure that if it is a trap we can deal with the problem...together. No way they are going to beat us!"
"Very well then." Regalia nodded. He raised a hand toward the GMD, and data readouts scrolled by his fingertips as he tried to access its contents.
+1 FXP

Opening up the GMD, the two navis would see a cache of chip data, two pieces to split between them. One a giant wrecking ball with a metal sheen and the other a plank of wood shaped in a rather phallic shape that seemed polished to a sheen with a rounded end. The two navis couldn't tell which went to which, so they could either fight over the data or they could discuss who got what.

Fight and/or discuss who gets what at your pleasure!
Nightshade hopped about super happy this Data opened up without it being a trap. He wiggled closer to Regalia, nuzzling up to the knight's chest as he curiously examined the chip data in front of him. In all honesty, he was beginning to enjoy the gruff knight's company. Super cool armor aside, the guy was actually being very considerate towards him, which was actually amazing considering they met not too long ago. With his tail wagging happily, the little cat navi pointed over to the Wrecker chip. "I want that one." He mumbled at his friend. Looking up at Regalia he added. "Can I have that one, please?"

Shane rolled his eyes and chuckled. "I warned you Nighty here is a cuddly little thing." He casually stated, looking at how perky Nightshade seemed to be in Regalia's company. "Perhaps I should work on creating a Home Page for Newlight's Hour where navis can chill...I'd need to contact someone who knows about coding, but I could get it done. having a netcafe might even increase income a little."
"A Netcafe... could be popular, yeah. You could sell drink programs or something, maybe pack in little energy boosts..." Thomas's mind began to run with the possibilities.

Regalia, meanwhile, sighed. "You may take the Wrecker, little one." He nodded. "I shall take the WoodNose." The knightly navi reached out and downloaded the chip data, making it effectively vanish.

With a swish of his cape the elder navi turned, looking out over Yoka net. "So what now? Onward?" He looked toward Nightshade, but the question was likely more for both navis' operators.

"I'm okay with doing some more." Thomas replied. "What about you, Shane?"
"All up to Nighty here" Shane promptly replied. "He's the one doing all the fighting."

The little navi giggled happy, grabbing the Wrecker. "Yeah! More battles! Now I can get to wear more armor! I did not break it. See? See?"

(Ready for battle 3)
The two navis find themselves splashing to a halt as a walrus and two piranhas rise up from the warm waters in front of them. The Walla's tusks take on an energy-like sheen as the two Piranha's form a schooling, directing their efforts toward a single goal. A little further ahead was a land made of faintly glowing coals. On top of the large peninsula was a skittering shrimp, a Zamboni machine, a knight with a drawn sword, and a large fan that quickly turned on and started blowing in their direction. After them came a stream of sea panels, being filled in by a rainy cloud. Within the stream surfaced a pair of submarines.

Shrimpy viruses are able to move between attacks as a free action, however dodging still costs them an action. They must pause movement to attack. Shrimpy viruses may move over fragile panel types without damaging them, such as moving over Cracked panels without breaking them. Shrimpy viruses cannot be forcibly submerged or smashed through fragile panels, even if thrown. They can submerge of their own free will, however.

MonoSwordMonoSword (MonoSword)

MonoSword are distant cousins of Swordy, but have evolved further in an attempt become more a threat. They attack by teleporting in front of their target, and slashing with their namesake before returning to their original position. Their blades are sturdier than most, and can cut through things regular ones cannot, such as shields. Their bulky armor also gives them above average stamina, but it weighs them down to the point where they do not move or dodge, aside from attacking. Despite it lacking any sort of defense that would bestow such a weakness, they ironically take additional damage from Break attribute attacks.

WindBoxWindBox (Wind & Fan)

All viruses in this family are immobile during combat, with the exception of being able to turn to face any direction it wishes. Later versions of this virus may switch between Wind and Fan effects, which requires one action, during which time all wind or fan effects cease. Bonuses and penalties do not stack if multiples of the same virus family exist on the field. Wind and Fan do not push or pull Objects, only creatures.

Area: SciLab, Yoka, Beach, Sharo, Netfrica, Hades Isle

HP: 100
Attack Damage/Effect: Wind Effect, Northwind
Attack Accuracy: S
Attack Description: Causes a large scale gale of wind to blow across the entire field in the direction the virus is facing. This gale will constantly move all targets this virus considers to be enemies in the direction the wind is blowing, which makes it difficult to land many kinds of attacks on it and allied viruses, such as thrown attacks and close ranged attacks. All those affected by the wind will also have their barriers and auras blown off by a constant Northwind effect.
Element: None
Possible Rewards (Per Virus): Wind, Zenny
Special: Causes short ranged attacks, such as (but not limited to) swords, melee attacks, and flame thrower style weapons, to suffer from a 30% accuracy penalty against targets they are being pushed away from. Both sides of the engagement suffer a 30% accuracy penalty with direct attacks perpendicular to the direction of the wind, and all thrown attacks.
Special: Those allied with this virus may opt to take advantage of the wind to increase movement speed or evasion by going with the wind. They do not suffer any penalties, however. Conversely, anyone may move along with the wind to increase accuracy by 10% for close ranged attacks, assuming the target is in that direction.
Special: Northwind effect to all enemies once per virus action while maintaining wind effect.

-- Battle 3 Ready? Start!! --
Nigthshade's exlosive speed bursts was released all at once, the navi soaring on the battlefield before Regalia could even react. This time he would take the initative. As he zig zagged through all the viruses around there he conjured up his electric powers. The piranhas were his prey. Like a cat drawn to a fish, the cat navi roared as he charged both the swimming viruses with full intention of frying them on the spot. The first one would get proptly assaulted with the navi's signature electrified kick. Using the tail as support for his weight, Nightshade made sure he would throw himself at the second target. With a metallick shinking sound, Nightshade's metallic claws deployed. Grinding the pair together, a sparkle of lightning was released in the air. A sparkle that he caught in his hand and held firmly as he attempted to puch the second virus, his whole arm now encapsulated not only in Regalia's Gauntlets, but green lightning as well.

Tumbling forward from the punch, a simple roll would be enough to avoid retaliation...hopefully. The roll would transition into a handstand, before the electic navi would hop back on his two feet paws, splashing back down onto the wet terrain.

Action 3: Dodge
"Quite a lot of the pests..." Regalia murmured. "Nightshade, we should-" The Knight was cut off as his ally leapt into the fray, forced to watch as he leapt upon the piranhas. Did the boy want to prove himself? Was he just too eager to wait for cooperative efforts? With a sigh, Regalia decided it didn't matter. He clapped his hands together, and armor appeared upon them both. For Nightshade, his gauntlets hummed to life again, the "magic" inside of them coming alive and granting him a pop-out shield; for Regalia, the knight's chainmail was covered by hard plates, his visor appearing on the helmet-insignia adorning his breastplate. Restorative code began to flood Regalia's systems, primed for repairs if he should take damage.

"Regalia, I'm going to send you some electric chips. They're mostly water viruses, right? Take 'em out." The click-click of Thomas slotting in chips came through the line before it cut out, and Regalia nodded his assent. "Understood!"

The knight's cape flared behind him, picking up the Wind and flapping majestically; he planted his cane into the onsen terrain beneath him to steady himself, and then the cloth of his cape burnt away, the electric patterns turning into glowing lightning bolts. Like a swarm they flew through the air, overtaking each other in a maddening, crackling race; each of them competed to strike first, to sear, to fry their target from the inside with raw, unbridled energy.

How fitting that they had chosen a cloud for a target.

With a pair of booming thunderclaps, Regalia's cape began to reform; soon enough it was billowing in the wind again. While the Knight's posture and his planted cane had not changed, however, the weather had; the mighty rainstorm the Cloudy had summoned bore much more thunder and lightning now. Regalia raised his cane, the wooden spear turned into a giant lightning rod, and a bolt of Thunder struck Regalia's cane, forming a crackling, dancing ball of electricity on the tip. With a swing of his cane Regalia unleashed it, sending it toward the Windbox; the ball of lightning began to spiral through the air, flying this way and that as it sought to home in on the blowhard box, complete with a shocking surprise for it.

Finally, Regalia raised his cane, prepared for another electric chip-- but instead his cane froze. Rime affixed the knight's fingertips to his weapon, his teeth chattering in his skull, and he spoke to Thomas. "I th-thought you were s-sending elec chips?"

"Change of plans. Get that MonoSword while it's on the Coal." Thomas replied.

Regalia did not need to be told twice; with a grand swing of his cane the knight struck the water, causing a wave to leap free before him; the wave flash-froze in midair, and then it launched toward the MonoSword, leaving behind a trail of chilled wind and thin ice atop the onsen terrain. While the ice rather quickly thawed out on the hot water, Regalia was left struggling to warm himself as his attack sought out its intended target, only freeing his fingers by the time the IceWave had either hit or missed.

Entirely concerned about the viruses retaliating, Regalia took up a defensive stance, ready to leap to either side if he felt it necessary.

5: Dodge
Taking on the initiative to prove his usefulness, Nightshade took to the battlefield at lightning speed, with Regalia's gauntlets as a send-off. His overeager attack caused him to unfortunately miss the first fish he targeted with his electrified kick by a hair. Far in the back, the Cloudy summoned up a dark raincloud above Nightshade that started to rain down heavily on his position, while the Marinas started to fire some anchor-filled bubbles towards him. Thankfully, the attacks were easily outmaneuvered by his fast speed, with one of the bubbles thankfully blocked by Regalia's gauntlet-shield. The Walla nearby also ejected its metallic tusks at him and Regalia, but was unsuccessful in hitting anything as both of the spikes whizzed overhead for both of them.

Meanwhile, in the rearguard, Regalia was taking his sweet time preparing for the battle, donning his armor to protect himself in the absence of his guarding gauntlets, while the electrical storm that his cape generated bounced out towards the Cloudy virus, frying it almost instantly. It was at this point that the MonoSword came up to his position and hefted its massive rocky sword at him. Unfortunately, the electrical interference around Regalia's person caused its already poor depth perception to falter, with the statue virus's teleportation bringing it up just slightly out of reach of the armored old Navi. Regalia's response was to leisurely swing his cane at the WindBox, destroying it immediately as well.

Then, his operator pulled a bit of a fast one on the old Navi, sending a frosty IceWave to him instead of the Elec chips that he was anticipating. The icy wave struck the MonoSword for a decent amount of damage, though it wasn't enough for a deletion outright. The Shrimpy and the Dharma seemed to not opt to attack at the moment, instead scrambling to get off the burning coals into the water. Lastly, the Piranha that failed to be deleted by Nightshade's intrepid efforts recognized Regalia as the bigger threat on the battlefield, and loosed a trio of arrows at him from its mouth. Of these, only two were able to hit him, and even that was negated by the restorative energy from his breastplate.

Piranha viruses work as a hive-mind. They all move at the same time, attempt to detect targets at the same time, and once a targets is detected by any of them, they all attack that one target at the same time. Moving and searching for targets takes one action. Attacking takes another. Any Piranha just recovering from a status effect that prevents normal operation will resume acting in unison with the rest of the group.

ShrimpyShrimpy (Shrimpy)

Shrimpy viruses are able to move between attacks as a free action, however dodging still costs them an action. They must pause movement to attack. Shrimpy viruses may move over fragile panel types without damaging them, such as moving over Cracked panels without breaking them. Shrimpy viruses cannot be forcibly submerged or smashed through fragile panels, even if thrown. They can submerge of their own free will, however.

Area: Yoka, Beach, Sharo

DharmaDharma (Dharma)

Dharma move and dodge at average speed. Their puck attacks rebound off of the edges of the battlefield as if there were an invisible wall there. They can rebound up to 3 times before finally passing off of the field or dissipating into thin air. The pucks pass through anything they hit except boundary walls, terrain, and friendly viruses. The pucks can not damage other Dharmas. This virus cannot attack while moving.

: 90 HP [Onsen, a little in front of the coal lands]

: 40 HP [Onsen, directly in front of Regalia]

Breastplate: 20 HP [Passive Heal 20][Mobilize: 1/1 Movement]
Nightshade didn't let up. Where he failed, he made sure he would not do so again. He locked his eyes onto the Piranha and swiftly threw a ring of electric energy to ensure a hit. The yellow circle soared through the air in a curved trajectory towards its target, starting low then flying up.
Seing as many viruses were trying to take a shot at him he still remained mobile, weaving around the battlefied.

"He's trying to impress you." Shane's voice resonated in Regalia's head. "I think he wants to show you you can trust him. Or maybe it's something else. I don't know what it is but I think he likes the connection to you. He probably doesn't want you to think that lending him your powers is a waste." The man concluded. He would keep quiet for a moment.

"Hey, Thomas." The man called. "I know we just met and we're in the middle of a battle but...well our Navis look pretty great together. I would love if we could talk to eachother eye to eye instead of through a screen."

Just as the NetOp said that, the cat navi would use the increased speed of the gauntlets to get out of danger. Nightshade cuddled up to Regalias' side, keeping himself close to the seasoned knight. Just like last time, Regalia's speed increased. Nightshade couldn't give much, but he was trying his hardest to help his teammate up. He raised his head up, looking intently at the older figure. He was waiting for something. Directions. Orders. Anything. It looked like this time, besides taking initiative to protect his friend, the little navi wished guidance from the old one. His eyes betrayed a look for genuine concern despite him trying to look confident, however. Had he not failed his first attack, Regalia would have been safe from the piranha. The little cat instictively wiggled closer to the knight, glaring at the viruses from time to time while in a somewhat defensive stance, but still making sure his partner would have free movement as he pleased.
