Electown Exploration

((Jack In))

Delta.exe's entry to the network went as usual, a beam of light coalescing into the armored form of the NetNavi. Stepping forward, he began exploring the nearby network.

((Ready for Battle 1))
Freshly arrived in the Electown networks, Delta found himself in a reasonably sparse area. In the distance, a few structures of unusual shapes dotted the otherwise flat landscape, itself a patchwork of the frequent metals, magnetised electrical panels and glowing points that made up so much of the Electown net's less built-up reaches.

For a short while it seemed like he'd arrived in an unpopulated area, but before long his explorations gave way to a shrill siren sound, and a shuddering of panels to either side of him. To his left and right, a thick-looking pair of riot walls burst upward out of hinged panel hatches, shooting to a height several times his own before stopping and locking into place with sharp hydraulic hisses.

It had to be said, though, they weren't really penning him in at all, since there was nothing else to either side, and little to stop him walking out of the short tunnel and around them. The 'entrance' was only a few feet behind him, after all, and the far end wasn't much further - only a few seconds of light jogging away.

As the walls locked into place, another hatch opened at the end, giving rise to a cannon virus, with a small red light spinning on the top of its turret. Two more bolts of light revealed twisty viruses, perched atop either wall with one close to him, on the right, and the other at the far end of the left wall. Each clicked their fingers against the wall-tops and summoned their signature remote bits into sight.

CannonDumbCannonDumb (CannonDumb)

CannonDumb viruses attack any targets in sight every action they are able to. They can and will attack objects, but only objects they can damage. They will not waste cannon fire on IronBody, Shadow, or Invisible targets. The exception is Canodumb DS, which will fire at anything with its DarkCannon's beam blasts. All CannonDumb viruses may opt to spend one action prior to attacking marking their opponent with target lock. They gain the 10% accuracy benefit of Take Aim against this opponent for any and all follow-on attacks until they lose sight of the target, or switch targets.

Having stopped moving when the walls emerged, Delta stepped back when the turret appeared, out of the passageway. "Henry, we have company." As he spoke, the NetNavi kept a wary eye on the viruses, hoping to avoid any attacks that came at him.
"I see them. Sending you a minibomb chip and a cannon."
"Gotcha." With that acknowledgement, Delta allowed the spherical explosive to form in his left hand, before lobbing it in a high arc towards the Twisty on his right side.
As his arm came back down, his hand shifted, turning into a cylindrical barrel. Pointing the weapon at the turret virus at the end of the path, the navi fired the second chip that had been uploaded to him at his unfortunate target.

Caught by surprise but not unaware or off guard, Delta moved quickly as the turret at the end painted him with a locked target sight; darting back out of the alley and taking some measure of cover to the side of one wall seemed to be enough to break the bead almost as soon as it formed, leaving the cannon turret no better off.

The twisty viruses were less impeded, unfortunately, and one of the remote bits zipped across to station itself above him, blasting down with a bolt of electricity before the navi could duck away from it. It was only a small sting, overall, and Delta was quick to respond, lobbing a small bomb up to the other twisty, seeking to knock it out of the fight before it could have a go at him as well. The small explosion that followed made it hard to see the results immediately, but a dull clank announced the second remote bit dropping down to the panels and breaking up. Success.

Seizing the moment, Delta was able to aim back down the alley way and take a shot at the turret before it could try to fire; his aim was better than its would likely have been, and the shot was strong enough to rip the other cannon from its housing, spinning light and all. One virus still remained at the far end of one wall, but overall delta seemed to be pretty much on top of this battle.

Having taken a hit from one of the Twisties, Delta felt his self repair routines kick in, nullifying some of the damage that he had just taken.
Delta moved carefully away from the riot wall, avoiding the remaining virus' remote as he positioned himself for a shot at it.
"Delta, I'm sending you a cannon to finish this." As his netop spoke, Delta raised his buster towards the remaining target.
"Perfect, thank you Henry," the red-and-white navi said, his weapon raising slightly from the recoil as he fired, before preparing to avoid any more shots from the bit.

As his body began to repair itself, Delta was able to dodge away from the remote bit as it tried to move after him, and made his own shot successfully before it could lock on or attempt to shock him again. With the last virus down, the alarm seemed to stop and the two walls, rather sheepishly, retracted into the ground and closed their panels over again. A scattering of data fragments that would convert into useful zenny remained for Delta to gather in the aftermath of his victory.

"You know, my one complaint about my repair systems is that they only work while in combat," Delta remarked as he knelt and collected the zenny left behind from the battle.
"It's just how the systems work, unfortunately," Henry responded, leaning back in his chair, "It might be something that could be changed, but it hasn't been enough of a problem for people to try. An injured navi without any subprograms will usually just jack out, at which point they heal entirely."
Delta nodded, "I can see that." He continued speaking, as he began to walk away from the former battlefield, "Not just yet, but perhaps we could stop by the Mission BBS later on.

Moving deeper into the Electown nets, Delta gradually drew closer to some of the distant structures on the otherwise flat landscape; it seemed like he was approaching an area that might actually have some activity in it, as he began to pick out light trails moving back and forth between the oddly shaped buildings.

The ground began to grow a little uneven as he progressed, with low, flat hills rising to a variety of of antennae, signal vanes and other delicate and sensitive-looking protrusions. something of a pathway was beginning to form between the hills, leading onward, but as it became clearer to notice, Delta was able to catch sight of a small cluster of figures just a short way ahead and off to his right.

The sounds of heavy activity preceded them; hammering and drilling, and the cracking and breaking of panels. the intermittent crackle and spark of electricity cut over the machine sounds.

The figures were all clustered around an area of high-tech electronic panelling, with two jack-hammer viruses breaking away at something in the centre, being assisted by a pair of drills. A lone Eleball orbited the group slowly, crackling every few moments.

Just as Delta was approaching, a glint of green light flashed and one of them pulled away another chunk of panel, throwing it onto a nearby pile of shattered data, to reveal an intact data crystal. The group paused for a moment, with an air of glee, but in the lull the Eleball sparked loudly, giving off a viral chatter, and the other four snapped their attention towards Delta.

"We have company. And a green mystery data." Delta formed his rocket launcher as he spoke, firing at eleball, the rocket leaving a trail of exhaust between the two. "Five or so viruses, 80 or 90 HP each."
"Got it. Minibomb and TwinFang sent."
Delta turned to face the group of viruses, evaluating which ones would be best to target first, before saying, "Thank you. Most of them are clustered around the data though." Having made his decision, Delta lobbed the explosive chip over the first Drixol and the mystery data, towards the sole virus behind the treasure.
Immediately, the navi formed his buster, firing two fangs in rapid succession at the viruses to either side of the group. His self-repair systems kicked in as well, to help mitigate any damage from the fight.

The red and white Navi sent a rocket streaking towards the Eleball, but floating virus had begun to advance on him, dodging the rocket before it began to twirl rapidly in the air nearby. Two crackling yellow orbs of electricity materialized in the air around the virus, and made a rapid orbit in an attempt to give Delta a shocking counter attack. The first orb connected squarely, but the second barely whizzed by Delta's helmeted head.

Delta continued his barrage with a deft toss of the grenade-like minibomb. While the minibomb went a little far and didn't hit the Drixol directly, the resulting explosion and spray of shrapnel perforated the virus, causing it to fall to the floor in a broken and rapidly-fragmenting heap without damaging the GMD.

Meanwhile, one of the PogoJack viruses was more keen on attacking the intruder rather than attempting to shield their treasure, and launched itself into the air. It came down hard close to Delta, but the Navi managed to avoid an 1-2 piledriver punch. Delta then responded with a well-aimed dart into the PogoJack's thinly-armored hull, and another to its compatriot.

The other Drixol, possibly wanting to avenge its fallen twin, launched itself like a spear towards Delta. The virus's rage didn't really account for one of its own comrades in the way, and bashed into the Eleball instead, causing it to sputter and crash short of Delta. The second PogoJack; however, was much more successful in its attack and brought both of its jackhammers down on Delta. The Navi's self-repairing fixed some of the damage, but he now had several viruses in close proximity, and they weren't happy.

((How'd the eleball lose 20hp?))
"ARGH!" Delta's cry of pain from the assault was short-lived however, and a plan to return the...favor had already formed, as his repair systems continued to work against the damage that he had taken. "Rageclaw..."
If Henry was taken aback by his navi's tone, he didn't show it. "Rageclaw sent."
The armor over Delta's left hand expanded, formed a lethal set of claws over his fingers. The netnavi immediately put the new weapon to good use, swatting at the virus before him in an attempt to send it crashing into it's fellow.
Without waiting, he lunged forward at the eleball that he'd failed to put down before, slashing at it with first a blow that brought his arm back across to the left, then an uppercut.
It remained to be seen whether this aggressive tactic would work out for Delta and his operator.

[OOC: The Eleball got damaged by DrixolA's attack, due to being in the way.]

Having been on the receiving end of a painful jackhammering, Delta retaliated swiftly by swinging his left hand, encased in an enlarged set of claw armor. The PogoJacks crashed into each other like a pair of ragdolls, destroying both of them. His systems got to work with repairing the damage done from earlier, but it wasn't quite enough to repair all of it at once. (+15) Meanwhile, the Eleball hovered into his range once more, and the spinning balls of electricity dealt him a heart-stopping shocker. (-10x2Hitx2Metal) He leapt at it to deliver a two-strike attack at it, but the electrical attack caused his arm to seize up on the follow-up uppercut, causing him to miss the fatal blow. To his left, the Drixol disappeared into a warp hole, and suddenly rematerialized from another directly to his right. While his forward lunges prevented him from receiving the brunt of the attack head on, it still grazed his back quite hard (-20) as it passed to his left.

((Actually, do misses with melee weapons count against their durabilty?))

The three strikes together knocked the wind out of Delta, causing him to gasp for breath momentarily. Henry bit his lip watching the battle, searching his chip folder for the pair's Recover chip.

Delta's own self-repair ability kept working as the navi straightened up again, before suddenly attempting to scoop up the Eleball with his clawed hand, and fling it at the other remaining virus.

Just as quickly, he darted away from both viruses, attempting to buy himself some breathing room from the melee. "Well, that didn't go QUITE as well as I'd hoped, but we're making progress."

Having backed off from his opponents, Delta prepared himself to dodge any further attacks from them.

Hurt more than expected, Delta moved with more caution, but no less decisiveness. While his repair systems continued to work on mending his damage, he swiftly managed to latch onto the nearby Eleball and hurl it before it could make another attack at him; it had tried to move around behind him, but wasn't fast enough to save itself being grabbed and thrown directly into the business end of the other virus, breaking apart with an electric crackle as it did.

The Drixol shuddered as it righted itself and dashed towards the navi again, drill still spinning furiously, but Delta dodged away from it, letting the aggressive virus shoot past him swiftly.

((Okay. Just checking.))

Before Delta could continue his assault on the remaining virus, he was interrupted. "Delta, I'm sending you a Recover10. You took quite a beating just now."

The admittedly battered navi felt a surge of annoyance at the interruption, but stifled it when he responded, "Got it." Activating the new chip data, he felt the recovery chip's effects working in tandem with his own ability to give him more of a buffer against ejection from the network...or deletion.

That said, Delta hadn't been too distracted to notice his foe's expected pass coming towards him. It only took a step or two to the side to take him safely out of the way of the virus's charge. "Do these viruses always turn around after a charge?"
((I'm pretty sure, both from previous attacks and the virus description, that the Drixol will use a wormhole to turn around and come at Delta again this turn. I apologise if I'm overstepping by saying that it does so.))

With that said, he followed after the virus, closing into range of his clawed gauntlet. As soon as he was close enough, Delta thrust his arm forward and brought it around in a slash that would hopefully catch the Drixol of guard.

Worried by his navi's reduced health, Henry opted to support Delta's repair processes with a chip. It wasn't a lot, but it was all they had for now. Delta, meanwhile, was watching his remaining foe, and was ready to avoid it as it warped through its personal data rift to attack him from a new angle. Despite this, though, Delta didn't manage to account for the increased speed that the drill virus emerged with when it dashed at him again, and though he did his best to dodge out of the way, it managed to clip him across one shoulder as it passed.

Delta's return blow landed solidly, damaging the back and side of the virus after it passed him by, but it wobbled on and turned, glowing at him for a moment, it's gaze seem to waver as the drill point swung between Delta, and the data crystal not far behind him.

((It's absolutely okay to expect viruses to behave in certain ways, in character, if your navi thinks it will, however, you don't know for certain because it's an entity controlled by a different player – your moderator. You can use language that sees your navi behaving based on the belief that it will do something, but you should avoid actively saying that it does; that's the same as taking control of someone else' character. The other issue to be wary of is claimed success; since most major actions (attacking, dodging etc.) have a chance of success or failure, you should avoid saying that such an action succeeds, since it may not. Aside from being poor roleplay form, you're likely to accumulate severe Rp penalties to your action chances when you do these kinds of things.))

((Yeah, I realized that...after I'd turned my computer off for the night. There goes any chance of continuing with another battle after this one.))

Overconfident, Delta was hit solidly by the charge, his foe's drill piercing through his armor and leaving a bleeding gouge in his side. Despite this, he managed to land a return blow.

However, even with his self-repair system at work to stop the bleeding, the navi was in serious trouble. Even now that he remembered the existence of his shield navicust program, Delta realized that such a defense would most likely be useless against his enemy. Despite the pain, he prepared himself to dodge, ready to leap out of the way of any further attacks.

His operator was...less composed. "DELTA!" Scrabbling through his chip folder, Henry pulled a chip and slotted it into the PET without looking at it. Hopefully, that would buy them enough time to escape.

Meanwhile, Delta approached his enemy one last time, slashing at it with his rageclaw. As the gauntlet flaked away from his hand, he registered incoming chip data. Raising his arm to point more directly at the Drixol, Delta formed his left hand into his buster and fired without hesitation, sending a blast of tightly-packed bubbles at the virus. And prayed that one of his attacks would finish off the virus.

Despite taking an extra clip from the last tenaciously remaining virus, Delta continued to push the attack while his operator scrambled to respond. It was preparing to come back at him again, trying to see the navi away from its find, but Delta was a little bit quicker, finishing it off with a last swipe before it could try to ram him again.

With the field clear, and Delta the only one left, he was able to catch a breather, gather the remaining useful data from the remains of his enemies, and more interestingly he had a chance to examine the crystal that the collection of viruses seemed to have dug up, left intact for the claiming now, if he wanted to see what was inside.
