Back to Base-ics

The GMD shines as both Navis access it, a lock-and-key click sounding off. When the light fades, both Navis see data for a battlechip resting in their palms.

LightningMan GET: ShootingStar1
SoccerGirl GET: Panic
While SoccerGirl's words were indeed like an annoying insect's, that doesn't mean that LightningMan didn't hear it. ...She was kidding, right? Until that last bit, she couldn't hit the broad side of a soccer stadium with her attacks. If anyone was the best between the two, it was him. Not that that should be a surprise or anything.

But, no matter. Despite some initial reluctance for...some reason he couldn't comprehend, the other Navi aided in the GMD accessing, and each had a fancy new chip. He didn't particularly care what hers was, since he couldn't sense any electricity from it. His, however...hmm. Raining fiery death from above at an enemy. Sounded entertaining. With a smirk, he transferred it to his operator. "Well, now that's all settled, let's see if this is a good spot..." Using the immense power of basic observation, the electrical Navi looked around, getting a feel for the nearby area. "...No, this won't work. It's a nice, flat area, but there's a main road over there." He pointed over where the network's panels changed color, forming a line. "It's okay to be in a busy area, but interrupting local traffic's a bad idea." People would forgive BIOS's attacks when they took over the world. But irritating the locals by adding a minor disruption to their lives...that added up, and could potentially doom the new regime.

"At any rate, we'll need to keep looking." ...Wait, did he just say 'we'? Shoot.

"Glad to see you're warming up with your new busting buddy!"

...Ugggggggggggh.
"Panic," Micaella told her Navi once she received the chip data of the GMD. With a quick search she found out what its use was, but she did not see any use in it for SoccerGirl.

"Panic?" the Navi asked.

"Mhm, Panic."

SoccerGirl tilted her head, thinking on what the chip did. It would've been way cooler to cause Panic instead of preventing it. It was also not a ball. Very definitely not a ball. She shrugged, not sure what to feel about the situation and turned to LightningMan. Just as LightningMan was gifted with the power of basic observation, SoccerGirl was gifted with the power of personal space invasion. "Hey, what'chu talking about?" she asked, getting close to LightningMan once he pointed at a distant road and mentioned a 'busy area'. "Oh man, the building site!" she exclaimed and pointed at the opposite direction of the road, "Let's walk that way and see if we can find something!" Without any warning SoccerGirl grabbed one of LightningMan's hands and chuckled to herself. "I'm sorry, did I say 'walk'?" she jokingly asked him before sprinting away with the male Navi on her 'leash', "Hahaha! I meant running!"

((Ready for battle 2))
"...Are you not listening? The other side has the same problem as-urk!" Once again, LightningMan found himself not in command of his own movement, though this time he had the sense to immediately hover, and let himself be dragged along. Sigh. This woman needed an entire bottle's worth of ADD medication. He opened a one-way window to his operator, and shot him a 'why are you doing this to me?' look. The lack of a response simply made him sigh, and continued hovering along. He really was stuck in this mess. Maybe he could hit her with some lightning and pretended it was bad aim, then use the opportunity to run off? ...No, his operator would see right through that. But he had to think of something, or else he was going to snap before long...

But, just because he was thinking about how to ditch his 'busting partner', didn't mean he wasn't keep an eye out for viruses and the like. Because at least one of them had to.

(Searching for Battle #2)
The pair of Navis moved on... and came upon a soccer field. A dozen soccer balls were spilling out of a nearby bag not far from where the two Navis' stood near one of the two goal nets. Wrecking said soccer field were a bunch of viruses.

~Battle 2: Start!!~
A...soccer field? The fact it was in such disarray, however, actually made LightningMan smirk. His 'partner' wasn't going to care for that one bit, and that pleased him. But alas, he couldn't use it as a chance to bolt, and they'd get noticed and subsequently attacked soon enough. Too bad he couldn't recruit them for BIOS, they'd fit in just fine...

"LightningMan, snap out of it!"

The order of his operator forced the electrical Navi to do just that. "What? I'm just...plotting the best course of action." He really wouldn't mind teaming up with the viruses on this one...it'd rid him of a pest AND potentially score him some allies. Win-win. Now if only he wasn't being ordered to do the exact opposite.

"I'm sure. As for your battle...I say we worry more about reducing the number of attacks for now, more than actually erasing things from existence. ...That said, removing more than one virus makes for an excellent way to cut down on damage."

"Hold on a sec. I'll help with that." Once again, small spheres of electricity formed in LightningMan's hands, which levitated over to the Powie floating over nothingness. After their spinning, they gave the virus a nasty, but non-damaging shock, weakening it. Unlike the Spooky, it was probably still strong enough to hurt something, but it'd be much more managable now. "All right, send it over."

"As you wish!" How convenient...the chip being sent over involved a Mettaur being shot. With any luck, his Navi would mimic that quite well. Just had to put a finger on it, and slide it on over to him...like so. "Shotgun BattleChip, in!"

Once again, the sinister hearted Navi's right hand transformed into a blue buster shape. And like before, he just needed to point it properly, activate the internal firing mechanism...and watch as the yellow energy bullet shot forward, to try and hit its target. As well as the second target behind it. That'd be two out of the way if properly done. Nothing major, but every little bit helped.

Speaking of which, there was one virus that worried him here. After all, fireballs hurt when you were standing on something extremely flammable. He might not be able to outright defeat it with one blow...but he could, at least, cripple it. He raised his arms into the air (now with two regular hands, instead of the weaponized form from a moment ago), and created a dark cloud above the Spikey. Without further delay, his namesake dropped it, with the intent of inflicting a highly painful shock, capable of stopping it in its tracks with a touch. Such was the power of electricity. And especially, HIS electricity.

And now, he should probably prepare for evasive maneuvers. With any luck, they'd all go after SoccerGirl...but just in case, he needed to make sure the damage he himself took was as minimal as possible.

"Now this is a true party!" SoccerGirl exclaimed and raised her arms into the air, without a LightningMan in her hand. Unlike her companion, she had absolutely no intention of considering the viral entities as 'allies' even though she was probably the one of the two who was supposed to think that. You couldn't be a soccer team without a team and these viruses seemed to, kind of, know what they were doing. They only needed the right push. "I will teach you how to do this right!"

"I don't think your energy will allow you to properly teach," Micaella said quietly. Her mind seemed to trailing elsewhere while the sounds of cheering was heard on the background. The soccer match with Micaella's little brother had started in the real world and luckily that field looked a lot better than the one SoccerGirl was standing at. Micaella returned her attention to her PET, only to find out SoccerGirl had noticed the alluring sound of cheering.

"The people will know my name! SoccerGirl!" she exclaimed, pointing straight at Micaella. It was as if she knew where to point for the best shot.

Micaella remained quiet for a moment, thumbing silently through her chips, before replying to her Navi. "Maybe you can actually score this time," she commented.

Like a shot in the goal, SoccerGirl's bravado immediately deflated. She kicked at the floor while pouting. "I'm rusty, OK? How about we get this party started, right?" she muttered, glancing at the floor. She knew she wasn't exactly the best player on the field earlier, but she tried. And that's what mattered, right? However trying to score and eventually failing never won any matches.

"Here, let's try these again," Micaella said and slotted in her CactBall1 battlechip. This chip was quickly followed by an identical one, which she had received through a trade.

Still a bit meek, SoccerGirl created a soccer ball by sweeping her foot across the ground and dribbled with it to warm up. "OK, got to psyche up," she told herself, raising her fists to her chest. "Let's..." she started, kicking the ball into the air. "GOOOOO!" was her battle shout as she jumped after the airborne ball. Despite her appearances, SoccerGirl was completely aware of her own special moves and what the viruses before her were. Her eyes turned to the Bunny viruses while a smirk formed on her face. With a quick thrusting kick at the ball, the ball's interior exploded outwards to form a green-tinted spiked ball. The ball was still flying through the air as SoccerGirl touched the ground again, only to jump into the air again with a new soccer ball. With a quick flip forwards, she came down upon the aerial ball like a hammer which immediately had the same effect as the previous ball.

But she couldn't simply stop moving once her feet touched the ground again and the soccer balls on the field were not hers to begin with. A third soccer ball was formed by her feet with which she quickly started her repertoire of dribbling motions, using the viruses' balls as obstacles to move around. "One ball, two balls, three balls, I love balls~" SoccerGirl hummed to herself, enjoying the sensation of simply playing around.

S2. CactBall1 [20 x 2~4 WOOD; Ground; C Accuracy; Ranged] @ BunnyB
S3. Dodge
LightningMan shocks PowieA and causes its damage subroutine to lock up. Then blasts MetoolC into oblivion with his Shotgun. Unfortunately the spreadthrough does not hit MetoolB. SoccerGirl then kicks a CactSoccerBall1 into BunnyA, hitting a whopping total of three times! The Bunny is thoroughly deleted.

Then BunnyB attacks with a ring of electricity aimed at LightningMan. LightningMan is struck by the attack and sizzles his processes. LightningMan retaliates against the Spikey. The lightning bolt leaps from the dark storm cloud and strikes the Spikey head on, causing it to yowl and twitch in agony. Stunned for the next round.

Then the Powies rush forward as the Metools strike the ground with their pickaxes, sending shockwaves crisscrossing all over the field. LightningMan dodges out of the way of a strike coming his way, while the other shockwave misses SoccerGirl by a country mile. SoccerGirl retaliates with another CactSoccerBall1 as the Powies close in on the two Navis. Two bounces later and another Bunny is deleted.

The Powies then turn into giant weights and drop down upon the Navis. The weakened one drops down on SoccerGirl, who can't get out of the way in time and is crushed. Though the weight isn't as bad due to LightningMan's earlier interference. LightningMan, continuing his act as a damage sponge takes a direct hit and is squashed in the braincase.

The Navis then take a defensive stance as the Spikey launches a fireball and the Melody bounces around. The fireball misses SoccerGirl by a hair's width. Then the Melody follows through by bouncing upon SoccerGirl. But... SoccerGirl dodges out of the way and the virus bounces upon the Cracked panel. This causes the panel to break and sends the pair plummeting into a hole.

If it wasn't one thing, it was another...after taking a nice fall, LightningMan could feel his processes locking up for a bit. It wasn't for too long, but it was long enough that it was extremely aggravating. After all, it was valuable time he could be spending deleting viruses, and that would bring him one step closer to being able to ditch SoccerGirl.

But soon enough, he snapped out of it, and the electrical Navi was able to properly size up the situation. ...Looked like one of the viruses had managed to fall down there with them. And since he wasn't much for trusting certain other Navis to do the job, it fell to him to get rid of it before it struck again. "Sir! Cannon, and hurry!"

"I see...you intend to strike before it can properly-"

"Today, if you don't mind!"

"Touchy, aren't we?" But, eh. He could see how dropping a few stories and being paralyzed could stick in someone's craw. Let's just move that picture of a Canodumb over to the Navi..."Cannon BattleChip, in!"

LightningMan's right hand vanished, to make room for a gun that was basically a Canodumb head. It was about as complicated to use as the virus itself, so he only needed to point it at the music note, activate the firing mechanism, and watch as a burst of energy was launched from it. And, barring catastrophe, that would bring an end to the most immediate threat. Nice and simple.

Speaking of simple, it made sense to continue the process of minimizing the whole death from above thing the Powie had been more than eager to set up. Fortunately, Roderick knew enough about his chips that he had one that could do that, and didn't need a clear line of sight to pull off, either. How convenient for them. "Use this to get a little payback on one of those annoying paperweights! Thunder BattleChip, in!"

As his arm returned to normal, the spiked Navi raised his hands straight up, causing a ball of electricity to form between them. Instead of firing it off once it reached the proper size, however, he charged up a bit with his own electrical energy, making it slightly bigger, and powering it up a little to boot. After boosting it about as much as he could, he let it slowly rise above him, clear to above ground level. From there, it could change direction, and home in on the unweakened Powie. On the downside, he'd left himself a sitting duck...but if he was fortunate, there wouldn't be a whole lot that could take advantage of that.

[Order of Turn:

2-Cannon chip attack on Melody (60, A, Knockback)
2a-Buff subtype ability on Thunder1 (+11)
3-Thunder1 chip attack on PowieB (40+5+11, Elec, C, Stun 1, Homing)]
(Requesting that Shur be skipped)
Despite the hindering electric shock coursing through LightningMan's systems, things finally start going his way. The lone Melody bounces out of the hole it had fallen into, only to take the electric Navi's Cannon straight through its rubbery body. Even as it's still fading away, LightningMan switches out for a weapon more attuned to his element; despite the slow speed, the Thunder slides its way across the field, colliding with the Powie it was intended for and deleting it in a bright yellow flash.

While he pours on the assault, SoccerGirl proves most essential in drawing the attention of the virus group. Taking a few moments to clamber out of the hole she'd fallen into, her bright uniform proves most vital in keeping the pressure drawn off LightningMan. A shockwave courtesy of a Metool slams into her, but she's otherwise successful in weaving around another Metool's attack and the remaining Powie's ground-pound. As she goes, she runs over more of the Powie-spawned cracks in the once-pristine soccer field, opening more holes up. Dodging and moving would start getting dangerous soon enough...

Good, that time things went smoothly. The soccer field was looking like a total mess, too, which was also a plus to him. He wasn't in full-on clean up mode, but the worst part of the battle appeared to be over. Though, annoyingly, SoccerGirl was more interested in dribbling her ball than actually helping. Which proved something he'd believed since the first time he ever saw it: soccer was a fool's game.

At any rate, he should completely negate something's ability to hit him. Which meant creating some more debilitating sparks, like so...firing them at one of the Mettaur, like so...and give a smug smirk as it weakened its systems enough that its shock wave couldn't even so much as tickle what it hit. That was still in progress, though once it attacked, he'd undoubtedly do so out of amusement. "Sir, shall we finish the non-Mettaur? They're the main threats left."

"Yes, that's an excellent plan. They can't harm you if they can't exist!" The Spikey was far away...which meant an accurate ranged chip was best. Fortunately, there was still one of those in the reserves. "ZapRing BattleChip, in!"

LightningMan's finger began to spark, and he immediately took advantage of it by drawing a circle in the air before him. Curiously, the electricity left his digit, leaving behind a ring of energy floating in midair. He pointed at the fiery canine virus, and it immediately turned sideways, until it looked like a line in front of him more than a ring, and flung itself at the enemy. Its usual stunning properties were of no consequence this time, as all it needed to do was hit its mark, and the virus would be no more.

"As for that Powie...it jumps to attack, which means that attacks from above won't be hindered. And by coincidence, we happened to acquire one of those from the previous battle!" Granted, to call it woefully inaccurate was probably a compliment, but beggars couldn't be choosers. "ShootingStar BattleChip, in!"

A red cloud formed high above the battlefield. The electrical Navi raised his arms, wordlessly commanding to let its metaphorical bottom fall out...and causing 5 flaming rocks to rain down, each of which was focused on the remaining paperweight virus. Well, focused in a certain sense of the word...while they were definitely targeting it, they had shaky trajectories. But with any luck, enough would fall upon it that it'd break apart into leftover data.

Speaking of luck, he should take measures to increase his. LightningMan looked upon the remaining viruses (except for the weakened Mettaur, which wasn't worth accounting for), and prepared for avoiding any retaliation. Granted, if he was fortunate, there wasn't much left that could harm him, and either way, there wasn't a ton of room for him to dodge incoming attacks...but it was best to play it safe, and as long as he was mindful of the area around him, there was no danger of falling.

"You know," SoccerGirl started as she held the ball to her feet and looked at the ravaged field, "They really want to party, don't they?" Passing the ball through her legs and turning around, she continued to look around at what the viruses had done to the field. Despite her close link to soccer, she was not at all bothered about the destruction of the field. In fact, she completely approved of it and was programmed for playing rough anyway. "But it's not enough!" she shouted and planted her foot on the ball, stopping its motion. "Bring in the weapons, Micaella!" SoccerGirl shouted and made the soccer ball below her foot vanish, "It's time for interception."

Micaella looked at their remaining chips. They had already used 2 of the 6 chips, but SoccerGirl had not yet used her own strength. "Very well," she said and took out 3 of the chips, "It's all yours. Show them your style." One by one the chips were slotted in. RageClaw, Shotgun and Cannon were the picks for the fight. "But be careful of your well being. You've taken quite some hits."

"Psh," SoccerGirl shrugged and dusted off her shirt, "'s nothing." The lights along her outfit lit up as each chip loaded into her arsenal. "Let's pick up the pace!" she exclaimed, making a small hop into the air before using the floor as a springboard to gaining speed. Without the ball at her feet she had all the time to focus on her speed instead of technique. With great steps she closed in on one of the Metools, while her right shoe shone brightly with the loaded battlechip. She initiated a sliding towards the virus, not caring if he had a ball in possession or not, and a claw made of light green-colored energy materialized around her foot. "Red card, you're off the field!" she exclaimed once she had passed the Metool, having hit or missed. After all, even if she had missed that move would've definitely gotten her off the field. But this was not a real game, this was a war.

Quickly standing up again and already running across the field, she materialized a soccer ball again and ran towards the goal she and LightningMan were closest to. "Hey, Sparks!" she exclaimed at her ally, "I'm gonna go crazy here! So be careful!" She made way towards the goal with a great leap, the soccer ball flying with her. With a back flip and a powerful kick, she launched the ball with the Shotgun data, towards the Powie virus. Once again without ball, she landed between the poles of the goal and grinned wide. "This is how I party, fellas!" she exclaimed and raised a foot, once again the claw materialized around it. She jumped up to the top pole of the goal and grabbed onto it tightly with the claw. "Let's GOOOOOOOOO!" she exclaimed, psyching herself up, and with a great downwards force of her leg she pulled the goal from its place and launched it directly towards one of the unfortunate Metools. But still in her energetic daze, she was not going to stop now. "You can't score if the ball doesn't enter the goal!" she shouted at the virus and materialized another soccer ball. With a strong kick, loading the ball with the Cannon data, she launched the ball straight for the Metool.

Micaella, however, simply sighed at the actions of her Navi. "I'm glad we don't play like that..." she said, with one eye at the soccer match in the real world.

It almost looks like some well executed team plan as both navis suddenly switch modes; LightningMan turning up the support as SoccerGirl goes on the offence instead. The metool sees her vicious power-slide coming and tries to duck under its helmet, but she's just a bit to quick for it, sliding low and raking it into oblivion before it can hide.

The Spikey is just picking itself up and shaking off the lingering stun from before, then begins to charge at LightningMan with an eye for vengeance. Unfortunately for it, he has more where that came from, and pins it right between the eyes with his ZapRing before it can make an attack.

With the immediate threats out of the way, the secret-base-seeking navi goes for something flashier, bringing down a swarm of falling meteorites, and scores a perfect, direct hit with every single one of them! Well... Sort of. Four of the five direct hits were actually direct hits on the soccer balls scattered aboutt he area, but one of them, at least, was very definitely a hit on the Powie. Besides, LightningMan would probably count the satisfyingly punctured balls as a success anyway.

Dazed and unsure of the source of the meteor shower, The Powie jumps instead for SoccerGirl, apparently blaming her for its misery, but even as it jumps towards her, preparing to slam, she greets it with a point-blank shotgun blast, blasting it to pieces.

Not done being stylish, the sporty girl gets excessively physical with the goal, flinging it wholesale at the one remaining metool. Alas, though her aim is good, the goal sails clean over the startled virus, crashing down onto the other end of the field harmlessly. The metool responds in kind, flinging its pick at SoccerGirl, who, in the wind down from her throw, can't avoid it. Strangely, though... the weapon flies true, then bounces off her forehead like a puff of cotton wool. She doesn't even feel the impact of it, let alone take any damage (-0, Debuff is fun). The metool tilts its head a little, clearly confused.

It's a moment of confusion the virus can't afford, however, as SoccerGirl finishes up with a well-aimed cannon shot, blowing the poor thing well and truly off the field.

LightningMan already knows what ZapRing does ^.^

((EDIT: One day I'll get the reward pay-up correct first time, I promise!))
"Oh man!" she shouted out loud while storming her way towards LightningMan, still in the energy boost of her Afterburner, "We totally need to find more enemies to fight! And maybe more places to destroy! Or how about a place for your building!? Man, I love balls! Let's run and feel the wind in our faces!" Just as her feet that couldn't stand still, her voice and mouth were just constantly going on. In a quick motion she reached out and grabbed LightningMan's hand with the intention of dragging him around. However... From LightningMan's perspective, SoccerGirl just ran off into the distance while holding onto an invisible companion. One could only guess that this was a desired result.

((Leaving topic))
And that was that. Wonderful. Now he was just alone with...her...wait, viruses, come back! Now he actually had to acknowledge her existence, and...huh? There she went, with...oh, let's go with 'an imaginary friend'. He stood there, frozen, in an attempt to not attract her attention...and maybe if he acted like he did freeze, his operator wouldn't make him chase after her.

"LightningMan!"

"Grk!" Busted. "Come on! Don't make me go after her! You might've enjoyed it, but to me she's just an enormous pain in the-"

"Aren't you going to gather up your reward?"

"...Huh?" Wait, he wasn't getting chewed out?

"The PET detects chip data. If we're fortunate, it's another ZapRing to add to the collection. Come now, we haven't all day!"

"Y-Yes sir!" All the irritation he'd accumulated just melted away, as he floated over to access what was left of the data. That was weird, he didn't see...her, take half. Then again, she was such a blur, and he cared so little about her, that he probably didn't see a lot of things she did. Now, let's see what the viruses had to offer. "Hmm...I guess it's our lucky day. This is definitely ZapRing data. Sending it over."

"Ah, excellent!" The money, while small, wasn't unappreciated either, since it had no direct ties to the Roderick Franklin account. "It's transferred. Now, with that complete, what say you? Care to keep scouting?"

"...If it's all the same to you, I'd like to jack out now, and pretend this whole thing never happened."

"Very well. I suppose Edgar will be showing up soon anyway. You may leave at will!"

"Returning now, then." A bolt of lightning dropped from the sky, onto the electrical Navi...and after a brief flash, both instantly vanished from the Net.

(JACKING OUT)
