The Divine Quest

He just could not understand her.

Here this partner of hers had nearly gotten them killed, and yet, she healed him in an instant before she healed herself. Xenneth saw this, puzzled beyond his solving, as Megami continued to act as if they act was nothing to her. Not a second thought seemed to cross her mind, as far as her expression had shown. Her actions continued as if it was something natural. Even if she were not choosing to watch her health, Xenneth sure could not ignore the gauge display on his P.E.T. that told him she was at half her usual health.

"Megami-chan!" Xenneth had called out, "Use this!"

His fingers flicked a single chip into his palm at a grasp while Megami was running towards Warrior's area. "Recover! Battlechip in, download!"

It was not much, barely anything, but Megami took what she could. The NetNavi had been cloaked in a soft green light that appeared upon her body. Slightly, her wounds and clothing had begun to repair as if they were a part of her very body as she ran forth. She slid across the surface, careful about where her next step would be since the terrain was riddled with changes. She had stopped in place, eyes going over Warrior's position as she was aware of how these viruses would attack.

"Thanks Xen-kun!" Megami assured the violet haired boy. "These viruses attack by dropping on their target, yes? Then surely, we can catch them before they drop if we stay put!"

Yet, once again, Megami was being so considerate of her partner. She knew he was not safe as the viruses were so evasive and light like a fluff of pillow, and this was speaking from first-hand experience. She had spread her legs, lifted her right hand to chest level as she manipulated her fingers in a curving inward attention to her palm. The faint light that danced along her fingers had begun to converge into this area of her palm as almost in no time short, a sphere of light had appeared over that very hand.

Readily, she stood by, casting her arm back to throw her Divinity Sphere at the first Powie virus that would leap into the air, threatening to land upon Warrior.

Just as quickly as Megami had collected the Zenny data that was the spoils after battle, Xenneth and herself had gazed upon the glowing screen before them. Her head tilting as the small display of a Mr. Program in the hologram window had been bouncing up and down with an envelope.

"Thank you for entering our festive holiday event?" Megami read, "Please, accept this gift in the spirit of giving and receiving."

Megami had reached to the screen, pressing the displayed envelope, and there it was! Chip data that downloaded as Xenneth had taken it from the slot of his P.E.T and observed it.

"Oh! An Aqua chip?" he had asked, almost oblivious of what happened between Megami and Warrior as it weighed on his mind a moment ago. "T guess we have something to combat fire viruses now." Xenneth said placing the chip among his collection. Now, looking at the screen and to Megami who glanced towards Warrior with a smile and holding up her middle finger and index digit to indicate what Xenneth had communicated as their sign of "Being Cool."

She may not understand it still, but to her, it meant "okay" and even with her body riddled with the roughage of a previous battle, she still desired to continue on.

Note to Mods: A little tired, so short post, and ready for Battle Five whenever Warrior is ready.

-

The battle was won, but the conflict unresolved. Despite emerging victorious, Warrior felt defeated.

His heart sank in his chest, as did his chin, while he kept his back to Megami. He had the courage to face an army of enemies in combat, but cowered at the thought of facing a friend in repentance.

He was bold - but also reckless. His brightest trait was counter weighed by his most destructive.

And many times, when he'd find sudden inspiration in battle, he didn't know whether it was his boldness or his recklessness telling him to act - he simply acted on faith in that impulse, ready to accept the consequences no matter what they were. Oftentimes, it would lead him to hurting himself or utterly failing at his attempt altogether. But sometimes his high risks produced high rewards, and sometimes that mysterious impulse -- the impulse that Jake, and surely Xenneth too, thought was destructive and foolish -- sometimes it would transform a situation and turn things from bad to better again. Sometimes, it actually did pay off to take the leap of faith.

Jake preferred to approach the battle more tactically. He would often systematically plan out a course of action to take and keep himself several moves ahead of his enemy before he made a move himself. Warrior was the opposite, though - he acted on whim and spur of the moment, relying on instinct to take over and guide him. They were out of sync as a Net-Op and Net Navi duo, but it was their differences that made them stronger - each of their strengths covered the other's weaknesses. They still had a rather tedious amount of improvement to make on their teamwork though, but that's why they were here to begin with.

Warrior's relationship with his Operator was beside the point, though.

His rash decisions would merit little more than a shrug when they'd inflict negative repercussions on himself with their failures - but never before, until now, had he actually hurt somebody else with his careless behavior.

Megami had put her trust in Warrior when he'd asked for it, and without second thought had lent him her aid for a feat she probably knew would fail. And the only reward for her faith was to be nearly deleted as he let her down. Yet despite this, she continued to give him her support, but despite that, she was still owed an apology.

As she was reading her E-Mail, Warrior finally mustered up the courage to turn around and approach her. His heart sank even deeper as he saw the wounds and bruises over her body that he put there.

He didn't know whether to hug her right now or to kneel at her feet and beg for forgiveness -- but it became second nature to react to the 'peace' sign she had given him with her raised hand.

"Hey... listen..."

He gently grabbed the wrist of her raised hand and lowered it slowly as he maintained eye contact and attempted to formulate a way to put his apology into words. It wasn't a flirtatious notion either, unlike most of the other interactions he'd made toward her lately.

It was comforting to see her still smiling. It seemed that no matter what happened to Xenneth and Megami, as long as both of them were safe and with each other, nothing could stop them from being happy. It was a trait about them he secretly admired, perhaps even envied. Especially now, as his glowing gold eyes displayed that they could express sadness and melancholy while they met with Megami's electric blue eyes.

" I'm really sorry about... earlier."

Even after having put so much thought into this apology beforehand, he couldn't find the words to say it the way he felt it.

"And I promise it won't happen again. I'll never--"

He was just sounding like an idiot now, in his mind. "I'll never hurt you again" was where he was going next, and that just sounded like they had gotten back together after a break up or something. The poor navi just couldn't express his sincerity the way he wanted to. He bit his lip and sighed quietly as he gave up on the attempt, hoping Megami could forgive him of that as well.

"I'm sorry."

---------------REQUESTING BATTLE #5

VRRRRROOOOMMMM!!!

The touching moment was brought to a screeching halt as a pair of Navis zoomed onto the scene. One was blue, one was yellow. They both outfitted in standard Navi armor and helmets with fiberglass visors. Though the most notable feature was they were wearing a pair of motorized roller blades, with two blades a piece.

They had stopped on the nearby street. Apparently the wooded park that the two Navi's had been passing through finally dropped back onto a asphalt thoroughfare. They could even see some traffic coming too and fro behind the two newcomers.

The Blue Navi chuckled a bit as he placed a foot on the curb and stared down at the two. "Aww! Look at the two lovebirds, Canary, ain't that sweet?" The Yellow Navi chuckled as he crossed his arms in front of his body smugly, "I agree BlueJay, quite sweet. Tis' be a shame if they couldn't go about their business 'cause they didn't pay the toll for having their little party in our territory."

All of a sudden BlueJay produced a metal chain with a large metal ball on the end, and smacked the curb nearby, cracking the pavement. "Would definitely be a shame, Canary. But they don't look like they are dumb. They will probably give us all their zenny like good little lovebirds."

BlueJay then raised his voice a little louder and yelled down to Warrior and Megami, as if Warrior and Megami couldn't have heard them before. "Hey lovebirds! You're in our territory and need to pay the tax if you want to continue your tryst. The tax is all your zenny. Failure to pay us our dues... and we can't be held responsible for the consequences." Canary punctuated the claim of his partner by putting on some spiked gauntlets that lit up with crackles of electricity.

Fortunately for BlueJay and Canary, Warrior responded quite well to threats.

"Shotgun Battle Chip In!"

... Well. Maybe not.

"Download!"

Circumstances once again demanded Warrior and Megami put aside their moment, and once again probably saved Warrior some shame. He let go of Megami's wrists to turn to the new arrivals; the buster barrel pointed toward them would serve as a clear response to their request.

"Get lost."

It's too bad his targets weren't lined up for him, but by now Warrior had kind of learned his lesson from being too greedy anyway. A burst of white light erupted from the buster as it fired off a projectile traveling faster than the eye could see, aimed directly for Canary's chest. The smoking weapon deformed back into Warrior's hand as he walked toward the duo in an almost tactful manner - keeping himself ready for their returnfire, but also studying them as best he could to learn their method of attack.

He felt like he was turning into Jake right now, but if it avoided things from going sour like before, he supposed that wasn't such a bad thing.

The nerve of this guy...and the nerve of these guys!

Xenneth seemed equally disgusted gazing upon the screen of his P.E.T. Whether Warrior's apology was enough for Megami was unseen in her plain, straight face. However, Xenneth had already seemed to make up his mind, and in the heat of the moment, transferred that aggression towards the sight of the two new NetNavis. His tongue had been tempered as it spat with a jealousy that even he did not know existed. Grabbing his P.E.T. firmly, he gazed towards Megami's back, turned to him, but ready for combat as he knew her slumping carefree posture anywhere.

"Megami! There's no toll! They are just being bullies!" Xenneth spouted, "Let's defend ourselves!"

Megami had not given a response other than a single bat of her eyes and a nod of her chin. She seemed like she was lost in her own little thoughts, most likely due to Warrior's sudden apology. Even in the heat of battle, her thoughts were always on something more important to her: things that stirred her feelings. Quickly, she had dashed forth as she seemed intent on charging the enemy. Her chestnut brown hair swaying freely in the breeze as she moved with haste letting the woven brown sandals paddle against the street terrain. Her right hand glowed with a gentle green energy even as Warrior had ensued in combat, attacking with the Shotgun blast.

"Whoa! Whoa! You need defenses!" Xenneth cried, "Those weapons look heavy duty!"

Even after Xenneth said that, Megami was still dashing forth as she started to pass Warrior. Her right arms raising as if she was ready to throw up a type of shield, but she knew that would not be enough considering the weaponry the NetNavis carried. Xenneth had to think on his toes, and the only thing he could slip out was a good offense to make a good defense.

"BambooKnife, Battlechip in! Download!"

At that moment, Megami had shown a type of grace of her own as she spun on her toes. Her right arm brandishing the glowing light and usual grid-like formation had digitized into existence the glowing green blade. The female NetNavi spun on her heel as she made a sharp turn, positioning herself in front of Warrior long after he made his movement and cut off his advance, or at least it seemed. She brandished the BambooSword menacingly as she seemed prepared to fence with it and knock an incoming melee-attack aside if need be with her own counterattack.

Chatty Ditz: Sorry, busy B-Day business.

[Note about Battle 5s.]

Megami recovered her health as Warrior morphed his Buster into a Shotgun and took aim at Canary. Canary frowned. "Looks like they are stupid BlueJay," he said just as his skates reinitialized. He kicked off the curb with his skates, moving back onto the paved street in reverse. He cracked his knuckles again, sending sparks off from his gauntlets.

"Guess we need to teach them a lesson Canary," BlueJay said as he also kicked off the curb with Canary. Canary drifted to the left, while BlueJay drifted to the right. The Shotgun blast screamed out of the barrel as they kicked off the curb, making a beeline to Canary. Just as it was about to strike, Canary dodged to the side, and the projectile missed. It was so close!

Megami and Warrior gave chase, rushing up the hill and onto the open street. It was a bright, sunny day out. The birds were singing in the trees. A few cars passed by on the adjoining road. And there were two jerks in bright yellow and blue making small circles in the middle of the road, waiting for the two Navis to come fight them.

In a flash, Canary and BlueJay rushed forward just as the two crested the hill and got onto the street. Canary threw a flurry of electric punches at Warrior (ClusterShot1). However, only one charged fist managed to strike Warrior (-10). BlueJay launches his weapon at Megami, causing the heavy iron ball to hurtle through the air at her (Cannon). It strikes her in the gut hard and pushes her back a little ways (-60), probably cracking some ribs and undoing her earlier healing attempt. BlueJay quickly pulls back on the chain and begins twirling the weapon over his head again after it is recovered.

Megami equips her BambooKnife and moves in front of Warrior to defend. Canary and BlueJay, having launched their previous attack, drop back a little and prepare to dodge. However, there is no counterattack by the two Navis, who were preparing to dodge or getting ready to parry. So both sides end up watching each other. Waiting for the other side's next action.

"Did you see that Canary? I got that girl good. Another one of those and she is good as deleted," BlueJay chuckled to his comrade. Canary snickered. "Yeah, they are no match for us BlueJay. They might need to reconsider giving us their money..." He circled a little closer and brandished his fists in a few jabs at the air. "They don't seem to know how to handle our awesomeness."

(That is quite unfortunate... but I suppose it makes more sense that way.)

"One attack isn't going to do much good against them, Warrior. If you send a barrage at them, they'll have less time to evade."

Dodging was a less effective tactic this time around... but that was a double edged sword, really, since it meant the same for their adversaries. The more time they spent avoiding attacks, the less they'd be able to make of their own. On the flip side, if they decided to just attack instead of evade, they'd leave themselves open for Warrior's attacks, so he'd just have to out power them to win.

Probably not the most sound strategy, but it'd do for now. Jake's words fell on deaf ears though, as the scene unfolded around Warrior.

"... "

He heard Jake saying something, but his voice was blotted out by the thundering pulse in his ears. Like a gong beating between his eardrums, the volume of his accelerated heart rate tuned out every other noise right now. He'd taken a punch from Canary, and that was slightly aggravating. But Canary had ceased to exist in his mind right now as he saw BlueJay's iron ball collide with Megami.

*THUD-THUD**THUD-THUD**THUD-THUD*!

His heart was pounding even louder than before; the amount of rage he was in right now was actually painful. His teeth would have shattered had he clenched them any tighter; his heart would explode if it beat any stronger. Boiling blood would have been running through his veins like molten lava if he had any, while stifling steam could almost be seen shooting out of his ears and nostrils. He didn't think it was possible to be any more infuriated than he was right now...

... but BlueJay was proud of it.

"Did you see that Canary? I got that girl good. Another one of those and she is good as deleted!"

And indescribable peak of rage spiked in Warrior's body just then; his anger had become physically visible; his loathe to this navi now tangible. It was no longer merely an emotional tantrum, but now an actual aura of hatred exploded out from his body like a raging flame whose hue was as crimson as Warrior's blood red eyes.

*BOOM!*

It erupted like a flash of lightning, heralding its presence like a roar of thunder. An electrical current began coursing from Warrior's feet and through the ground surrounding the group -- what would probably serve as a benefit to Canary would now instill fear as the floor began to crackle. Like a fly getting caught in a bug zapper, the ground let off sickening electrical charges beneath everyone's feet, though they did no harm.

"Rolling Log! Battle Chip, In! Download!"

Jake's voice was still suppressed from Warrior's mind. But he sensed chip data coming in and raised his hands to catch what would appear to be a tree trunk that materialized above him. The crushing weight of the log felt like a feather for Warrior right now; the tensing of his muscles felt like fuel to the fire of his burning spirit, which only made them feel stronger and tighter. He made what could be described as a growling sound as he hurled the wooden pillar to the ground with such force that the ground had nearly cracked open. The log split in two upon impact with the floor - each half continued tumbling across the sparking terrain toward each enemy at a rather impressive speed.

But BlueJay's punishment must be more severe.

"Quake1! Battle Chip, In! Download!"

More chip data from Jake -- something new this time.

While the rolling log felt rather weightless when under the effects of his adrenaline, the colossal weight of a 1-ton anvil didn't feel mitigated at all as Warrior raised it above his head.

"Nnnngghhh!!!"

But this pain felt good.

Every ounce of his contempt and resentment would be burnt up just to be able to hold the object, but even more disdain and abhorrence was surging inside of him, strengthening and quickening him as he catapulted it in BlueJay's direction.

The massive weight appeared to float through the air slowly, as if gravity was perplexed and unsure of how to properly respond to what just happened. Despite its slow decent, its impact with the ground caused a quaking unlike any other. The terrain was completely shattered and destroyed where it had landed, and whatever found itself underneath would presumably be as well.

A part of Warrior almost hoped that Bluejay would survive so that he could properly induce the agony he deserved.

A hit to himself he could handle. But a strike against Megami, especially one that came without shame or regret, was unforgivable. No amount of repentance could save BlueJay from the fate he had just sealed for himself.

Damnation would be his destiny, and Warrior would make certain of that.

"Indeed you have..."

It was either dimness or perhaps the most ingenious fluke of a suppression of rage on someone's face, but Megami was showing no acknowledgement of her dire situation. By the time the impact had landed and bragging chat about her condition was over, it only shown her kneeling down in the street's edge. The iron ball was powerful enough to expose some torn away clothing that shown her flesh riddled with purple blotches where her sore ribs were hanging in minor fractions. However, her expression had not melted away: that sweet smile of a serene Goddess.

"Why not try to delete me now? I am certainly sure you will have another chance."

Xenneth had seen this before; the NetNavi's certain reliance on her Net Operator. Even as Xenneth had been silent upon a gaping gasp of his breath, he was sure Megami was okay and ready to fend off her enemy with his help. Her power was dwindling, and he himself was worried for her. However, he knew she was right: this NetNavi bully certainly would not get a chance to delete her after this moment, and Xenneth had assured that as he prepared a set of chips in a hurry.

"Here I go!" his fingers clicking each chip into the side of the P.E.T. in a hurry, "Recovery Level one, Guard Level one chips in, download."

A minor green aura had begun to covet Megami's body, invigorate her for the moment as she sit waiting for Bluejay's attack. It was only fortunate that she had taken more damage at the moment than Warrior. She had shown to have a lot more of a defensive arsenal than he had, so protecting him had become a priority more than none. Even as he gone on the attack, she knew she could neglect her own health. Her deletion meant Xenneth's utter sadness after all. As she recovered her energy, she had sat with a naïve expression upon her face readying for the NetNavi's counter attack.

The beautiful girl like a Goddess however was not alone. She had a building breeze along the soles of her feet, preparing to build a barrier upon her body while her right hand grasped the Bambooknife using it more like a stilt than anything. However, she knew the weapon would be useless in her current range. So, her left hand was lifting limp fingers ready at any moment to throw up her hand and prepare the shield that Xenneth uploaded in response to an attack towards her.

"Be careful Megami-chan..." Xenneth swallowed upon saying those words, gazing at the well-lit computer screen.

The only question was if the confident NetNavis would become cocky and attempt an attack upon her life and if Warrior would not become a victim in her bluff.

[Note: Yes. RollingLog1 gains the Cracked Terrain effect when used on a target on Solar Panels. So the combo to make Broken Terrain will work because both cause panel cracking. Normally the Cracked Terrain part won't work unless the attack hits. But if you forcefully attack the panels itself and not the enemy, then it would most likely go through even without a roll.]

Canary watched as Warrior started going berserk. "Heh, looks like the boyfriend is mad you smacked around his girlfriend." Warrior moved to the side then produced a barrier around himself and changed the terrain into glowing Solar panels. BlueJay and Canary were shocked at this sudden change, adopting a look of surprise followed by extending their left arms to formed Vulcan1s. "Guess we should put the boy down first. Who knows what other tricks he's got?" BlueJay said just before both open fired on Warrior.

Three shots from each gun rippled through the air before smashing into Warrior's barrier. An amazingly lucky five out of six shots struck. Two shots were absorbed by the barrier (-10), (-10; Barrier Broken!) before Warrior was peppered with the remaining three (-10), (-10), (-10). Megami took the distraction to heal a little health (+10). Warrior also regains a little health from the Solar radiation (+5).

Megami put up a strong barrier while Warrior grabbed a log and threw it at the two enemy Navis, regaining a little health from the Solar radiation (+5). The log doubled in size as it rolled toward them. BlueJay and Canary both try to dodge, but Canary gets struck hard (-100). The panel underneath him cracks under the weight of the log as it rolls over him, flattening him to the ground. The cracks make the panel structurally unsound.

"Canary! Are you all right?" BlueJay shouts out before turning to Warrior. "You! You scrub! How dare you! I'll make sure your girlfriend sees me pound you into junk!" Both Navis produced another Vulcan1 and aimed them at separate targets. BlueJay shook in anger as he leveled his weapon on Warrior, while Canary rolled over onto the Solar panels and got up on shaky legs as he aimed at Megami. Megami put up a Guard1 inside her barrier in case it was breached, as Warrior dropped a ten-ton weight on BlueJay. None of Canary's shots hit Megami, while all three shots from BlueJay hit Warrior (-10), (-10), (-10). Though Warrior and Canary regain a little health (+5).

Meanwhile, BlueJay is struck hard and flattened by the giant weight (-100). "BlueJay!" Canary cried as the Quake1 cracked all the panels around it. The cracked panel that Canary was on moments before broke down and became a hole in the road. Canary scrambled back from the crumbling edges. "Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! That was too close."

(Alright, cool. Thanks for clarifying.)

"Warrior!"

Even despite the bullets ripping through his clothes and limbs, Warrior didn't relent from his attack. The satisfying retribution made up for the salvo of hits he'd just taken, but it was no time to back down now.

"Mole1! Guard1! CactusBall1! Battle Chips, In! Download!"

He'd just noticed that he'd heard Jake's voice again... it wasn't blotted out anymore. He was less berserk than before, but still in a rather rage-filled state at the two, still-standing adversaries.

Warrior's body burst into sparks of electricity that sank into the ground, blending in nicely with the other sparks of the remaining Solar Panels. Megami had strong defenses up, and he'd managed to steal the duo's attention for a bit, giving her an opportunity to score a hit on them as well. In the meantime, Warrior remained burrowed in the solar-energy coated panels as he received the Guard1 Data. The CactusBall1 Data was received as well, but he held on to it for further use, until he could get his barrier back up when he re-emerged.

He hoped Megami would be able to finish them off with her wider selection of abilities, but even if she hadn't, Warrior had faith in her defensive arsenal to keep her standing while he was recovering.

It was her show now.

"Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! That was too close."

"It seems your mobility has diminished." tattered and torn, Megami had stood staring from afar. Her large shield was starting to break apart pixel by pixel and something started to reveal itself in its departure.

"Boomerang level three, Aqua Needle level two, Shotgun battlechips in, download!"

The large boomerang launcher that was upon Megami's right arm was a grid that simulated a container, making it hard to identify, but no one could mistake that massive wooden curvature that was in her right hand. She lifted it, grasping tightly as she danced on her right left toe in a twirl like a ballerina. Each sweeping twist made the boomerang sound as if it was already launched as it beat the air sounding like a blade whipping through the air. It was only after the third whipping sound that cracked the air that it had become more rapid, more quick!

"Yaaah!" with a loud cry, the boomerang was launched and swept through the air aiming for the two bullies.

Megami's spin had not stopped however as she twirled around once, twice, and a third as she stepped with her chestnut brown ponytail whirling back as if she was still in motion. However, she had kept herself still with her right foot touching down a toe, and herself aiming what seemed like a barrel of shotgun cannon towards her enemy. However, she was yet to fire as it was her left hand that would have caught the attention of an enemy...unless they were not aware that her index finger was not dancing in the air for some odd reason as if she was guiding something steadily.

"My apologies," Megami said as her eyes were upon BlueJay, "But instead of your 'friend girl' you should worry for yourself."

Megami's plan was obvious now; she planned on keeping them moving.

Megami's taunt was nothing like described, but rather a fair warning. Even as her voice was sincere and booming, the needles that were piercing the sky above aiming to bombard Bluejay like silent missiles. All the while Megami's eyes shifted to correct the aim of her intended target for the lifted barrel of her right hand while she still gracefully teetered upon her right toe. With a glimmer of the energy sparking within her right palm behind the grid-lines of the weapon and her focus sharpening the piercing damage of the shotgun round, she let out a burst of the weapon that sounded off like the gunfire true to its name.

"Shotgun!" piercing energy and shrapnel were aimed to race towards Canary's body.

[I made an error. Canary is Elec type and was hit by a Wood attack in RollingLog1 while standing on Solar Terrain. He should have taken x3 damage instead of x2, or -150 instead of -100, which would have knocked him out of the fight. Thankfully the first attack by Megami was not successfully dodged by either.]

Warrior burrowed into the ground and got ready to attack just as Megami swept the field with her huge Boomerang3. The giant wooden crescent smashed into both jerk Navis and caused them to eject from the NET. They barely had enough time to grunt out what was going to be a curse before it was cut short by their beam out. Leaving behind a lot of goodies.

"Subchip in, download!"

[Subchip: (x1) MiniEnergy used!]

The moment the battle was over, Megami was already being showed by a green aura that was fading, leaving her body energized. Her hands had moved to her hair, raking at her ponytail as if she was actually in the midst of having her body pelted by a refreshing cool shower. The faded energy left the markings on her body, scars that were accumulated overtime finally vanishing as if she was a new born babe, flesh and all. Megami looked back upon Warrior with a gentle smile after picking up and collecting the chip and zenny data.

"If I may say," Megami seemed to have a refreshed smile upon her face as if she was playful, "You should not try not to worry about the little things. I believe that is what my Net Operator, Xen-kun means. After all, me and him are strong enough to take on anything, no?"

She was not good at trying to pass along a message, but yet, she knew what she was trying to say. Maybe it was not fresh in Warrior's mind, but it was in Xenenth and Megami's. Seeing his expression because she was hurt or he caused a foolish tactic seemed a little much, even for her. The one thing she did not want is someone to worry about her, a trait she had thought was reserved only for Xenneth seeing his pained expression and self-blame whenever he would almost slip-up.

"Now," she had begun, "I believe you were trying to say something to me before those bullies came, yes?"

Sure, Megami was not aware he was apologizing for his accident previously, but it seemed like she had already said how she felt about it. What more was there to say?

With the enemies deleted, Warrior re-emerged from his submerged state. He was still a little wounded from the fight, but if he could still stand he could still go on. Jake was refreshing their Battle Chips again. Their supply still seemed pretty tight, so it was always nice to have a new addition to their stock.

"If I may say... You should not try not to worry about the little things. I believe that is what my Net Operator, Xen-kun means. After all, me and him are strong enough to take on anything, no?"

True enough, perhaps. It was difficult to say why Warrior got so worked up about 'the little things', but he just did. He was more of a soloist really, taking care of issues and problems on his own, but it was nice to have someone like Megami around to keep him company. Perhaps it was insecurity that caused him to drop into moods like the one he was in earlier... he was a little protective, you could say.

Seeing her get hit by Bluejay's attack made him feel exposed. It showed a lack of protection, and if he could protect her, could he protect anything? Likewise, when he'd accidentally hit her with his attack in the preceding encounter, he was burdened with a lot of guilt. He'd caused a lot of unintentional damage, but he began to wonder just how often he caused that kind of damage in the past. Was he ignorant and destructive? And if that was the case, what good was he doing anybody?

"Now, I believe you were trying to say something to me before those bullies came, yes?"

Well, he had a little less incentive to look like a fool again with his sloppy-worded apology. That said, he felt a little guilty for not thinking of a better way to apologize since those bullies came - the whole thing nearly slipped his mind in the midst of things.

At any rate, Megami was okay, Xenneth seemed okay, Jake was okay, and Warrior himself seemed alright. Everyone was okay. The incident seemed forgiven, so perhaps it'd be forgotten if they continued not to dwell on it any longer. In response to Megami's question, Warrior tried to think back to what they were talking about before that battle he had half-deleted both of them in. But it seemed like that had all happened a year ago... or 8 months to be specific, but who was keeping count?

"It was nothing. Just me worrying about one of those 'small things' again I guess."

Well, that was one way to change the subject. Kind of.

"Glad we got rid of those jerks, though. Hopefully we won't run into any more of them any time soon."

But well, even if they did... Warrior wouldn't mind teaching them a lesson again.

-
"Oh...oh!"

Silly little thoughts that went in Xenneth's head. They were once a worry, but now that were just as said: silly-little-thoughts. The Net Operator sighed, taking his lesson from a Net Navi as if she was some older mother of his own. Xenneth had dismissed what had happened; Warrior's incident, Megami's predicament mid-battle, and his own worrisome cry baby demeanor that he had a moment ago. His image was almost clear in the reflection of his monitor's glare when he was gazing at the screen most, and now, he was regretting that look.

"I'll try to forget the little things too..." he mumbled under his breath.

"What was that Xen-kun?"

"O-oh!" he jumped in surprise, "N-nothing! I mean, let's try to go further!" he insisted as Megami nodded afterwards and stepped forth ready to continue deeper into the path. Her eyes had looked back to Warrior who she assumed had followed, but she was rash, of course! Excited by the thought of an adventure with her Net Op, not to mention proud that he had insisted for once to go the distance in midst of difficult trials.

"Would you like to continue on with us, Warrior-san?" Megami asked politely.

He was a little beat up, but he had some recovery options available. Jake was tempted to slot in one of their Sub Chips, but he'd wait for Warrior to ask. He didn't feel comfortable watching Warrior playing things risky the way he did - opting to pass on the opportunity to use a Sub Chip in favor of regenerating health more slowly by other means - but he supposed the Navi would learn more from the consequences of his decisions that from another lecture.

"Would you like to continue on with us, Warrior-san?"

"Suuuure... Megami-san."

What was with the "-san"? Warrior didn't know what that meant. He'd assumed Megami was just being playful with her words, so he'd decided to be playful right back. But he hadn't ever heard her call him 'Warrior-san' before, nor had he ever heard her call Xenkun by 'Xenkun-san'... maybe he was just more special to her than Xenkun, so much so that he had his own special nickname?

A typical assumption from a slightly egotistical navi. But hey, if that was the case, Warrior had no problem with it. He could dream big, couldn't he?

[Note: Yes, ZapRing1 was the Battlechip rewarded. Xenneth's MiniEnergy Sub-chip use is also acknowledged. Megami is currently at 90HP and Warrior is currently at 45HP.]

[+1 FXP for Megami and Warrior for one extra back and forth post.]

Now on a road, Megami and Warrior came upon a busy intersection. Vehicles of all types were speeding by in a variety of directions on various errands. A few Navis on the sidewalks glanced at the newcomers but seemed to continue on with whatever they were doing before.

Megami and Warrior noticed that a little farther down the street and across the busy intersection, there were a group of Metools digging into the roadway. The other Navis didn't seem to notice them at all, walking right by them as they continued to tear up a section of the road. Thankfully, the cars and trucks that were zipping through the intersection were not turning onto that street.

One of the vehicles, which looked like a futuristic pickup, pulled off the busy thoroughfare and onto the street that Megami and Warrior occupied. Three sleek silver hoverbikes were chained to the back. The pickup pulled next to them and a Navi in a black biker jacket and skin-tight pants, both with bright yellow reflective stripes, jumped out of the driver's side onto the sidewalk. He was wearing a similarly adorned biker helmet. His head moved up and down, as if he was looking Megami and Warrior over. Apparently satisfied, he pointed to the hoverbikes. "You two look like you could do for some fun. How about it? I need someone to test out a new design of hoverbikes. We'll take them for a spin around the NETWAY and be back in an hour or two. There is a ramp not too far from here."

He pointed where a few vehicles were turning off the main road onto a ramp, past the intersection, and onto a multi-laned super highway. NETWAY 101 was emblazoned on the entrance of the off-ramp. Would Megami and Warrior take up the Navi on his offer? Would they investigate the strangely-ignored Metools? Or would they go somewhere else? There were a few shops and office buildings nearby. They could do some sightseeing. Or just blow past it all and leave the place and try to find some more viruses to delete elsewhere.

"Wait... so you want us to try out these brand new bikes?"

Abso-friggin-lutely! He'd just been approached by a complete stranger and been offered the chance to test drive a next-gen vehicle that probably wasn't even commercially available yet and potentially lacking in various danger-free safety features. This was like a dream come true!

But it'd be boring to go alone... Hiding his excitement for the moment, Warrior turned to Megami to let her decide.

"Your call. What do you wanna do?"

He'd non-chalantly positioned himself between her and the group of Mettaur viruses down the street, as if trying to use his body to block them from her line of sight. Besides, maybe they were just little construction workers or something? And even if they weren't, it's not like there wasn't anybody strolling by that couldn't handle the horrendous strength of a Metool, right?

Warrior pointed to the hoverbikes with his eyes, as if non-verbally telling Megami to comply with his inner desire. But that clearly wasn't blatant enough, so he sniffed loudly, pointed to the bikes again with his nose, and then looked back to Megami to see if she'd gotten the vibe yet. He didn't think she was slow to catch on to things or anything, but... well... this was the girl of never-ending handshakes, so he had to make sure she knew it was clear that he didn't want this opportunity to be missed. He scratched his eyebrow with one finger in a side-to-side motion, as if 'pointing' it toward the bikes as well whilst he looked in another direction.

He didn't want to 'force' her into the decision - there was a difference between hanging out with someone to have fun and just dragging them along. He felt like if he accepted the offer without her consent, this would be one of those 'dragging alongs' that nobody liked to be a part of. And there was nothing fun about that.
