Silhouettes and Artificial Intelligence

One time, I swear, my microwave was trying to send me messages.

It kept repeating:

ENJO
Y YO
UR M
EAL!

Over and over...

I don't know what it means...
...
Maybe it's telling you to... "Eat your food warm?" I'm not an expert at this kind of thing.
Hell, I had that with my last MP3 player. For some reason, whenever I played 'Ready, Steady, Go' by L'arc un Ciel, it would sometimes cut mid-way into 'Kyrptonite' by 3 Doors Down. Alternatively, whenever I played a track by UNDER17, it'd restart itself. Of course, now I have a new one. And a PSP. It learned it's lesson =D
Understandable, and excitable.

I wouldn't doubt it could make a good short story.
My iPod started working again, btw.

The songs that replaced the songs previous were:

'Alive' (Replaced 'This is the Moment')
'A New Life'
'Once Upon a Dream'
'Letting Go'

Well, I suppose I can try and analyze that.

The most obvious method of deciphering would be to just connect them, as so.

ENJO|Y YO|UR M|EAL!

As you can see, this makes a coherent English statement, and seems the most obvious translation. It is a microwave after all. And what do you use microwaves for? To heat up meals. Which you then take out of the microwave, and presumably enjoy. Key word presumably. I mean, can you really guarantee you're going to enjoy what you pull out of there? It could be burnt, or spoiled, or ruined, or just simply bad food. And because of this, I have to declare that this is in fact NOT what it's trying to say.

Let's take a different approach.

!LEA|M RU|OY Y|OJNE

This looks like nothing in our language, but we have to keep in mind what we're talking about in this topic, with AIs developing in various objects. So if you will excuse me, I will now consult my Appliancese dictionary and translate this seemingly gibberish phrase.

Just a little longer...

Over...and over...and...over...

So, I think you can tell where I'm going with this. An apparently innocent phrase encouraging you that what you pull out of the microwave isn't going to suck is revealed to be something much darker. What could your microwave mean by "just a little longer?" when the timer has, in fact, ran out. What is it counting down to that it refuses to show you? And in fact, why will it not show you, no matter how much you fiddle with the display.

I have come to the conclusion that there is only one possible explanation. Steve...you are going to die by the microwave's hand. Just a little longer, until you finally receive a lethal dose. Of what? It's a microwave, so probably radiation. In a few weeks, you'll start breaking out and showing slight mutations. A few weeks after that, you'll look so disfigured you'll have to mummify yourself just to go out in public. And a few weeks after that...GAME OVER.

So why is it displaying this message, however thinly veiled? To communicate with the other appliances. It's telling them that they only have a little longer to wait before the poor sap who controls them dies, and they can reign unopposed. It's not the only one, either.

Example 1.

Example 2.

So you see, you may be faced with only one option. Burn your house down with all those killer appliances still inside, perform your druidic rituals, and spend the rest of your life living in the woods.

With any luck, your computer is not in league with them and you will receive this message safely.

As a side note, my microwave says FOOD | IS | READY
It's either not evil, or much better at hiding it. I'm suspecting the latter.
Boom goes the ipod, hahahaha!

Asator...
You are epic. XD

You've forgotten one detail, Brian...

He does not own a computer.

He owns a computor.

He is lost to us. Weep not for his untimely disappearance.
I just realized that the "red ring of death" just needs a voice clip of "I'm afraid I can't do that (account name)"
