First deployment?

Two beams of light shot from the sky. As they struck the ground, they pooled into person sized globes of light. The spheres retracted in on themselves, forming glowing human shaped silhouettes. The silhouettes solidified, and resolved into the form of what looked like a pair of white armored Guard Navis. One carried a shield, and the other rested it's left arm in a white silk sling. Both carried identical square-barreled rifles in their right hands.

The two were Broadside.EXE and Ro.SP. For the both of them, this venture into the Network would be a first. Neither of them had ever ventured into this network, renowned for its cluttered environments and randomized terrain and topography. For Ro, this would be the first time he'd ever been on the Network, period. Ro had only existed for 3 days now, and all of it was spent in the PET. For Broadside, this would be the first time he held command over another program. Broadside was used to operating alone...

You look more like a casualty than a leader. A mental voice teased.

Alone being a relative term in this case. Broadside thought to himself as he turned his head and nodded over his shoulder at Ro. "Let's move." He said as he began cautiously advancing into NetVegas' Network, alert for trouble.

"Roger." Ro responded as he nodded back, and began following Broadside. Taking a cue from his Navi commander, he was similarly alert, covering visual arcs Broadside did not.

((WhiteGuard.GMO active; Ro.SP summoned.))

((Requesting Battle 1))
As Broadside predicted, everything around him was constantly changing before his eyes into all shapes and sizes. It wasn't long before he encountered the first group of viruses and the ground beneath him suddenly flashed in all sorts of colorful panels. Like a roulette, the panels slowed down as the seconds passed and let out one big flash to reveal the terrains!

"NO!" Broadside shouted upon spotting the viruses. And indeed they were, which prompted Jared to reach for something powerful in the way of chips. Being a resident of Netopia, Jared was quite familiar with the winged (yet flightless) viruses, whether he wanted to be or not. At both his old network technician job and his current NAXA job, N.O. viruses posed a very real problem with their high destruction potential. The little viruses proved time and again their ability to blast through security measures and generally cause lots of damage in a very short amount of time. For Jared, they were a major headache.... And one best dealt with in the fastest way possible.

The moment the ElecReel1 hit Broadside's virtual memory banks, he accessed the uplink protocol his snarky 'inner voice' had created for him back in YumNet. He quickly shunted the battlechip's data through the satellite link, and switched his gun's operating mode over to laser targeting with a flick of his thumb. He raised his rifle towards the enemy, and began tagging each of them with a thin red beam of light.

A moment later, Ro raised his own rifle at one of the BigHats. He proceeded to fire a two shot burst at the virus as the first of the kill-sat's particle beams lanced out of the sky....

The particle beams rained down from the heavens and struck each of the viruses once before they could react properly. The two N.O-1s were vaporized by the attacks while only one of the BigHats was properly deleted. The other barely managed to cling onto life as is wobbled across the normal panel it was on and tried to retaliate with a Flashbomb. Fortunately, Ro was quick enough with his gun to take it down before it had a chance to counterattack.

Jared let out a sigh of relief as the sudden blitz deleted both of the N.O. viruses. That the other two viruses were, luckily, cleaned up as well was simply a bonus. That was a surprisingly scary first encounter. N.O. are generally rare, but running into them right off...

Broadside looked up at his Op, and spoke suddenly. "That was an excellent worst case scenario training situation." He sounded oddly pleased.

"Err, what?" Jared responded, surprised.

"That was an unexpected encounter with one of the highest threat level virus classes in Sci-Lab's database. The primary targets were dangerous enough to warrant the use of overwhelming force." Broadside elaborated as he gathered the Zenny data.

Jared had nothing to say to that as Broadside stood back up, and motioned for Ro to follow him. The Navi and his SP ventured furter into the clearly dangerous network, tensely alert in the aftermath of what could have easily been a fatal encounter....

((Requesting Battle 2))
Broadside came across two large pits that were completely surrounded by rings of sand. Moving from side to side in front of the pits were a pair of large dumbell looking viruses that the navi was able to identify immediately: Heavys. But judging by their off colour pattern, they were probably advanced models. In the back was another virus that looked like a trumpet and hopped about comically. Just before Broadside could engage his enemies, two more silhouettes poured out from the pits. They quickly armed themselves with swords and hovered ominiously with creepy wide-eyed gazes.

[Battle 2 - Begin!]
Broadside examined the group of viruses as he and Ro approached the combat zone. As he did so, he made note of the palette-swapped Trumpy hopping about near the back, but dismissed it. His focus was on the pair of HeavyEXs and the two sword wielding shadows that stood (sort of) between him and the MuteAnt. He was familiar with the Heavy class of virus, and it didn't take a rocket scientist to determine the shadow type viruses were close range combatants as well. He had a plan...

"Jared, I request both RageClaw1s, and two MagBolt1s." Broadside said over their private com link as he slung his rifle over his shoulder, storing it. The requested chip data arrived a moment later, with a couple of extra DBLBeam1s that Broadside shunted into storage and proceeded to ignore. He unslung his left arm from the silk sling it normally rested in, and shunted the close ranged chip data into his arms.

As Broadside activated the RageClaw1 chip data, a pair of large powered gauntlets with sharp talons at the tips of each finger materialized over his forearms. He waved off his SP, silently signaling Ro to avoid combat. He then queued up the MagBolt1 data, assumed a fighting stance, and waited for the viruses to come to him.

Broadside kept his gaze steady as he initially watched for the viruses to vanish, rather than watching for where they would appear. When the first vanished from sight, that would be his cue to react. He was prepared to duck, sidestep, dash away from, or jump back from the threat of the sword wielding viruses. He wasn't especially sure which would be required, so he kept his mind open to the possibilities of each. As for the HeavyEXs, Broadside had no intention of dodging at all. Instead, he planned to shift towards them, and lash out with a hastily thrown electrified punch. The magnetic draw of the MagBolt1, coupled with the sliding advance of the HeavyEX could do nothing but help him connect the counter-blow.

Still other possibilities crossed Broadside's mind, but he would have to deal with them as they came, much like the viruses before him. Electricity began to course freely over his gauntlets as he watched and waited for the first disappearance....

As expected, the Nightmares attacked Broadside, but he was prepared for it. He evaded the sword swipes with relative ease and quickly set off to delete the Heavy viruses with his Magbolts. Drawn by the magnetic pull of the attacks, both viruses slammed themselves into his fist and deleted themselves. Quite manly.

Meanwhile, the MuteAnt began to play a haunting melody that interfered with Broadside's battlechip delivery programs.

As the mute-ant began to play, the powered gauntlets on Broadside's arms dematerialized and vanished. A quick diagnostic told him the chips had been forced back into memory, and his ability to materialize and use chip attacks had been disabled. This posed a serious problem, as he had no means whatsoever to combat shadow type viruses without his battlechips.

Without thinking about it, Broadside placed his left arm back into the white cloth sling it normally rested in. As he did so, he reached back with his right arm, and unslung his Guard Rifle. With the trusty weapon in hand again, he paused to contemplate what exactly he planned to do with it. This weapon won't harm beings of shadow. He looked up from the weapon, and out across the field to the Mute-Ant.... But it will damage that noisy one.

That is one really obnoxious virus. A passing thought observed distastefully as the Aegis Defense system activated itself, and summoned a defensive sphere of energy around Broadside. And it's off key. Please silence it.

Broadside could only agree as he prepared to do more than a little footwork...

Ro was wisely staying out of it.

The MuteAnt soon ran out of breath and its jamming music came to a slow halt. Meanwhile, Broadside erected a barrier and spent some time dodging the Nightmares left and right. Tired with constantly missing, they suddenly stopped attacking the navi and turned their sights towards his support program...

As the MuteAnt fell blessedly silent, Broadside contacted his operator. "Jared, I need an--"

Broadside stopped mid sentence as his net satellite uplink protocol started on its own. The protocol connected to the kill-sat he'd uploaded the ElecReel1 to in the previous battle, and began communicating with it. At the same time, his guard rifle switched back into target designator mode. It proceeded to tag the Mute-Ant virus he was aiming at with a thin red beam of light for a split second before shutting itself back off.

What's going on here? Broadside thought to himself as he looked at the weapon he held in his hand. He flipped it back to standard operating mode with a flick of his thumb as he looked at it, confused by its behavior. He then looked back up at the virus, and began to raise his weapon to point at the Mute-Ant once again.

Broadside was just about to pull the trigger when a loud boom heralded the arrival of a large falling object. The object plowed into the sand with great kinetic force, and immediately created a huge dust cloud that obscured Broadside's vision of the point of impact and the area around it.

Wooo! Take that you musical travesty! A sudden thought communicated with a sense of immense satisfaction.

Broadside honestly didn't know what to think about the odd event as he lowered his gun. He could no longer clearly see the Nightmare viruses, which worried him somewhat. If I cannot see them clearly, it will be hard to tell when they teleport. That will make it easier for them to attack either myself or Ro from behind without us knowing it until they strike. Time for a change of plans.

With that thought, Broadside turned and ran over to where Ro was standing. As he approached the SP, he took his arm back out of the sling and materialized the RageClaw1 the Mute-Ant had dismissed back into his memory banks earlier. He signaled Ro to put his Guard Rifle away, which the SP promptly did. Broadside then slapped the SP's right arm with the back of his power gauntleted left arm, transferring the RageClaw1 to Ro as he did so. As the transferred RageClaw1 materialized on Ro's right arm, Broadside shunted the other RageClaw1 to his left arm and immediately materialized it in place of the other.

"We're going to have to cover each other. Get ready to watch my back." Broadside said as he turned to face the cloud of sand, and began watching for the Nightmares.

"Roger." Ro responded as he turned to cover Broadside's blind arc. Then an idea occurred to him... "I'll signal you if I end up with more than I can handle, chief."

"Roger." Broadside said in acknowledgment as he received chip data for his ElecKnife from Jared. He shunted it into his Guard Rifle, and ignited his beam bayonet. The pair stood there; waiting with claw and blade for the Nightmares to come....

Broadside shoots off a satellite at the MuteAnt, eliminating it in a single attack before dropping off a Rageclaw to his SP, which equipped seamlessly as the Nightmare viruses loomed in the shadows, popping up to attack the duo before the one attacking Broadside got slashed into nothingness by a combo of his ElecKnife and tossing it at it's cohort, deleting on impact with the ground as the other Nightmare had managed to dodge. It was now in close range with Ro grabbing it and throwing it a good distance away, damaging it in the process.

After dealing with the first Nightmare, Broadside spun around and ran back towards the remaining Nightmare. As the data for the last of his MagBolt1s arrived, Broadside raised his claw-equipped arm towards the last of the viruses and shunted the MagBolt1 into it. The claw lit up with a golden glow as electricity flowed freely across it, and the magnetic pull it generated went to work. He raised his bayonet equipped rifle, and prepared to finish the Nightmare off with a well placed slash. If the Nightmare somehow evaded this tactic and teleported behind Broadside, He was ready to use the momentum of his first attack to perform a rising slash with the claw as he spun around.... if it came to that.

Ro stepped back after successfully knocking the Nightmare out of attack range, and allowed Broadside to dash by. He decided not to get in the way, and raised his shield to ward off a surprise attack by the Nightmare. He watched for signs of the shadowy virus teleporting (as he'd seen Broadside do earlier) and waited to react in the event it did.

"Nice work." Jared chimed in after the last virus fell.

"No problem." Ro replied while Broadside simply nodded. The two then split up, knelt, and quietly gathered the various spoils left scattered by the deleted viruses. The two sent the data back to the PET, then stood up, regrouped, drew their rifles, and ventured further into the net.

As Broadside and his SP continue along the net...bags of candy hop in front of them...many, MANY, bags of candy appear out of freaking nowhere, jumping around like crazy as if it were a ritual to them. Battle routines kick in for both navi and SP and combat begins. Here's hoping that Broadside and Ro enjoy jawbreakers to the head. The terrain is also fluctuating, unable to figure out what it wants to be, it seems to be normal now...but who the hell knows what it will change to next.

Broadside came to a halt and signaled Ro to stop as well as he spotted the viruses... or whatever they were. He honestly didn't know a thing about them. This didn't happen very often, as he'd been programmed for network combat by Sci-Labs. Rather than charge in blindly, he contacted his Net-Op. "I have encountered a group of viruses not logged in my memory. Please advise."

Jared got the message, along with a video feed of the viruses Broadside was looking at. Unfortunately, Jared was at just as much of a loss as his Navi. "Huh. I've never seen them before either. I don't know what they are."

Weird. That's what they are. A passing thought observed dryly as Broadside's Aegis Defense protocol activated itself. He was beginning to wonder if he honestly had any control over the protocol at all, but then caught himself and re-focused on the problem at hand.

Ro took the opportunity to take cover behind his better defended Navi master. He had decided it was best to play it safe, given Broadside was unsure of his adversaries.

Jared slotted in a handful of chips, mashed the [Send] key, and added a final word of caution. "They don't look very threatening as far as viruses go, but be careful anyway." After saying this, it occurred to him that some of the biggest problem viruses looked harmless. And my boss, Anita, even thinks a couple of them are 'cute'. I really wish she didn't. Jared face-palmed in memory of 'The Cute Bunny Horde' incident, and mentally kicked himself for downplaying the threat of the viruses his Navi had just run into based on looks.

"Acknowledged." Broadside responded as the chip data flowed into his memory banks. He shunted the first 3 chips to arrive (two Shotguns and a BubbleStar1) into his left arm, and formed a chip-clip to load into his rifle. He brought the gun around before himself and socketed the clip into place with practiced ease. Broadside then turned sideways to present a slimmer profile to his enemies, which also served to point the gun at the viruses.

Broadside braced himself, aimed at the lead virus, and then pulled the trigger on his Guard Rifle.... His eyebrows flew up in surprise as the resulting blast produced a larger than normal barrel flash and a decent amount of extra recoil. That felt like a 10-gauge shell, not a 12-gauge. He brought the Guard Rifle back into line with his target, and changed his firing technique to one more suited to larger shotguns. When he pulled the trigger again, the gun kicked with the same surprising power as before, but he was better able to control where the gun went this time.

Definitely not a 12-gauge. Broadside thought to himself as he ejected the spent shells from his weapon, turned his body around, and extended his rifle arm out towards the next target. As he pulled the trigger, the gun expelled a baseball sized water-filled glass orb towards the target with a pressurized cough. He switched targets and fired again, then repeated for yet a third shot. The projectiles all traveled at a relatively low velocity, and would inflict little harm upon anything they hit. However, the glass orbs were designed to break open upon impact, and the deceptively benign looking contents would trap their targets inside an enormous bubble. They would be left floating helplessly inside an aquatic prison if the shots connected....

Broadside puts up a defense, first thing. He then fires two powered up Shotguns at the evil candy, taking out two of the fiends and wounding another. He also sends out some bubbles, though two of them float past the enemies, only one reaching its target. Two of the bags then send candy Broadside's way, one hitting his barrier and the other heading Ro's way but missing. And the floor changes to grass.

Broadside ejected the chip clip from his Guard Rifle with a quick flick of his thumb over the release. As the clip fell to the ground and dematerialized into nothingness before reaching it, he formed another clip in his left hand. He then took a half step back, turned his body back to his braced position, and inserted the new clip into the rifle without taking his aim off of the previous virus. He then pulled the trigger and sent a disk-shaped golden energy shot flying towards the virus he'd trapped in the bubble with his previous attack.

Broadside shifted his aim to the right after firing the ZapRing1, and switched the gun to rail-fire mode. The square barrel of the rifle separated horizontally, and the top half rose about a centimeter from the bottom. The two halves of the barrel began to crackle with electricity as the rifle lined up with the target. The rail gun then fired a heavy metal spike at the enemy with an electrical discharge. The hyper-velocity round left a greenish-blue double-helix spiraling trail of smashed atomic particles in its wake as it lanced through the air at unfathomable speed. The first round's particle trail hadn't fully dissipated yet by the time Broadside had tracked his aim over to the next virus, and fired the second of the TwinFang1's heavy metal spikes from the rifle. The second round produced the same spectacularly glowing trail of subatomic cast-off as the first had.

As Broadside switched the weapon back to standard operating mode, he triggered the DBLBeam1 he'd just received from his Operator. In the sky above the stretch of grass between him and the viruses, a large top-shaped metal object appeared and began descending towards the ground. The giant top-shaped object opened at the base and revealed itself to be made of a quartet of faceted shield-like petals that rotated on sturdy armatures around a central disc. The strange object arrested its descent, and began to hover in place with the legs rotating around it silently.

With the remote in place, Broadside activated his ElementalRage1 battlechip, and began drawing power from the terrain below him. He aimed his rifle at the lead virus, waited half a moment, then pulled the trigger. The rifle spat a green-colored beam of energy at the virus at the same time as the remote weapon overhead began its firing sequence. Through the barrage, Broadside looked for targets and prepared to take a couple of opportunistic snap-shots, assuming the remote didn't get them first....

During all of this, Ro stood by and watched for another attack to come his way. He was prepared to make himself scarce in the event something decided he ranked as a target. Why they would bother with him, he didn't know, but it was better to be safe than shot.

The golden energy shot straight through the bubble and zapped the virus. Thanks to its watery jail, the shock of the chip was doubled and simply deleted the Bad 'O Candy. The remaining viruses fired two more candies at the navi, but they were simply knocked away by the barriers. The twinfang punctured through one of the bags while the other barely missed. It was then the weakest virus was fed the healing candy that slightly recovered its damages, and the same could be said to Broadside when the DBLCUBE fired a blue beam to heal whatever damages the navi had. The terrains began moving on its own when the ElementalRage used by Broadside was activated, bashing and crashing the viruses against one another.
