Hell on Skates

[Apologies for the long wait.]

Moving through the Hades network, the trio of Navis happened upon a large stream of lava, with a nice-looking stone bridge over it. Atop the bridge, some Handy were hovering around, waiting for some prey to kill. It looked as if they were alone, but a closer inspection revealed that the stream of lava also had some inhabitants. A trio of Spikey were casually rolling around in the scalding magma, playing around with some Flamey as well. They saw the Navi trio come closer, and turned hostile!

"Hey Vik you th-" Arc was about to ask her netop, before a yellow and green blur went right past her.

"Hey, Arc, keep an eye out fo- Oh hey, you already found Holo." Vik told her navi, at the same moment that Holo took off.

"Ye-yea." Arc responded on a private line to Vik, before chasing after the two navis. "Say, Vik, doesn't that other navi seem familiar to you?" Arc asked, her gazes focused on Beatnik's back.

"Um... No, the navi doesn't seem familiar to me. Why?"

"No real reason... Damn, they are fast." Arc responded, lagging behind the two a little. When she thought she could keep up, she wasn't expecting the two to be that speedy. She managed to catch up to the two at some bridge, covered in a few viruses. Just three? That seems easy enough. The navi thought, looking right at the three hands.

"Vik, send me two energy bombs." The navi ordered her netop, her gun materializing in her hand. She looked at the viruses on the bridge, before her gaze shifted towards the lava, where she saw six more viruses.

Three viruses per navi? That seems fair... I should make sure I don't miss. Guess it's time to test that then. Arc figured, placing her free hand on her headset, and pressing her fingers on it lightly. Once she did, the data in her visor changed. The data became more streamline, more realiable, much better than it was before.

There was now a slight burning sensation up along her spine.

It looks like the targeting system is operating under acceptable parameters. Arc thought, looking at at her visor real quick before turning her attention towards the Flameys. Even though there will be 'slight' overheating from pushing her targeting system for as long as she is about to, that was still under acceptable parameters. The two Energybombs that Vik Sent her had finally been processed, and one of them appeared in Arc's free hand. Quickly, she loaded the bomb into the grenade launcher mod of her weapon, and aimed it right at the flaming viruses.

"I got the flameys, so don't worry about them." Arc informed her two companions, pushing her targeting systems even further. The data it was now showing was much more accuracy, hell, she could probably shoot with no problem on the icy surfaces of her homeland with this kind of data.

Arc tilted her gun up slightly; making sure the trajectory would make the explosive land on one of the Flameys, or at least land where it would catch one of the viruses in the blast. Arc pulled the trigger, and fired her most powerful bomb. Once her payload of destruction landed, she loaded another bomb into the launcher of her gun, and stopped pushing her systems as hard as she just did. While her next shot won't be as accuracy as her last, it should be able to do the job of finishing off any survivors.

((Passive: Take Aim Action2

Beatnik realized with a start that Arc had gone before her.

"Hey!" she yelled indignantly. "Hey hey hey hey!" But it occurred to her that this was only serving to put her further behind, so she decided to see if she could blow up more shit than Arc had.

She snagged a few chips off the queue. Asking Toni for specific crap was out of the question, of course, because Toni was a lazy jackass who would rather write cruddy poetry than, you know, keep her Navi alive. She came up with a fistful of Zaprings.

"Move!" Beatnik yelled, clipping Arc as she blasted by. Those hands looked like decent enough punching bags. The first Handy got the first Zapring, which appeared as a circle of electricity in her hand. She discused it at the virus as she howled toward it. With the first shot away, she slammed down her foot, stopped practically on a dime, and flung the other Zapring toward the Handy's twin.

That left the third Handy. Beatnik had come here to show off and throw shit, and she'd run out of shit.

The chip waiting at the top of the queue would do just fine. Beatnik kicked off in a long loop around the third Handy as she waited for the chip to boot. The blue plates in her magnetic field jerked themselves down and locked into place around her arm. Within a second or two, they'd configured themselves into the shape of a giant blue metal fist. Beatnik wasn't too sure where the Handy's eyes were, because, uh, it was a hand, but when she hit a point in her orbit where she thought she was kind of out of its sightline, she dug in one foot and changed course to charge right at the virus.

She cranked her first back, sucked in a deep breath out of the air that was ripping past her, and slammed her knuckles down on the virus. Hand, meet fist.

Before the Gutpunch could go dissipating and unlocking the plates around her hand, Beatnik grabbed one more chip. The fisty-part of the blue arm collapsed, and a tiny core of plasma started charging inside. Beatnik skidded to a halt at the edge of the overlook, pointed her fist-cannon down at the Spikeys, and pulled the invisible trigger. The recoil pushed her all the way across the bridge and almost off the other side. A mushroom cloud rose from the Spikeys were. Or had been. Heh.

After seeing that the others had already begun unloading upon the viruses, Holo decided to get things started off right. Systematically, each one of his body parts blinked out of existence, their projections cut short by the fact that their projectors had separated into two separate floating piles of hardware. A moment later, two Holoß's stood about a foot apart wearing twin looks of confidence. As the chip data streamed in from the support Aelieth provided the Navi(s), (each) Holo momentarily gained a pulsing brightness as the battle chip code integrated with his (their?) own.

In mirrored movements both of the Holos setup on either side of the bridge. In an equally symmetrical fashion... they both became cartoonish fire hydrants, complete with smiling Holoface. They both smiled at the viruses, bouncing around in the way that only a fire hydrant a la Walt Disney circa 1930 could bounce around. A deep rumble and a surprised face later ( 8O ), and sweeping torrents of water literally blew the top off of HoloHydrant 1 and 2, sending sweeping torrents of water gushing over the battlefield. While the real Holo tried to focus the blast towards the Spikeys, HoloClone targeted at random, selecting two of the viruses on which to blast his deadly payload.

Once the waters finished flowing, both Holos reverted back to the normal shape and met up facing the bridge. With a nod from both, they each sprouted a rather bizarre looking gun. It looked almost like an elephant gun, however instead of one there were nine barrels pointed forward in a Seussical fashion. A cacophony of blasts resounded from both guns as each bombarded the battlefield. Several of the shots were just harmless images, but most would sooner take your arm off than look at you.

Their wide swaths of destruction complete, both of the Holos went on the defensive, juking left and right, ready to throw themselves out of harm's way should anything actually be left to retaliate.

Explosives were thrown about quite ridiculously, engulfing the Flameys in a matter of seconds within a barrage of violent energy bursts and deleting them. Zaprings and a sound GutPunch also found their way towards the Handy, courtesy of Beatnik, whose assault sent them packing to the great viral rave in the sky. Holo, meanwhile, did some splitting up thingamajiggy and killed everything with a WideShot.

"That was quick." Arc said, bringing her gun to rest. While it was unfortunate that she couldn't get all of the flamys with a single bomb, she at least had another to finish off the survivor. "...And a lineout1..." Arc commented, after moving to where the viruses once floated, picking up the bits and pieces of data that remain. Maybe it will be better than those... logs... Arc thought, before looking towards her two speedy allies. "I'm going to go on ahead this time." Arc informed her companions, before she started to move across the lava to the other side, and then onwards ahead.

Of course, she would have to break out into a sprint at some point so the other two won't get too far ahead when they pass her D:

((Ready for battle 2))
Beatnik snorted. "Lamers. This the best they got around here?"

She turned hard and scooped up the chip data on a skate-by. Once it had resolved in her system, she cursed and hurled it up the chute to Toni's PET. Figures she'd get the crappy-ass time bomb. All it'd be good for was for bashing viruses' heads in, because by the time it actually got around to exploding, she'd have already deleted everything herself.

"On ahead? Hey, you get back here!"

Beatnik put her head down and kicked off like an Olympic skater. No way in hell she was going to let someone else get ahead of her. If the hologram guy couldn't keep up, that was his fault.

[go go battle 2]
Both Holos leaped into the air, giving themselves a self indulgent high five. As their hands collided with a loud SMACK!, the decoy blinked out of existence. With a pleasant shiver as his projectors reintegrated with each other, he walked up to the remaining fragments of floating data and send them zooming up the tubes to his PeT.

While remotely admiring his new Heatshot, he noticed that the others were leaving him behind. He sprouted a motorcycle from his legs and raced off after them, popping a wheelie as he did so.

As the three navis continued through the Hades net, they realized that something was strange about the floor they were running/skating/driving on...With its strange, plush feeling, the floor broke off into a platform while a stream of lava suddenly swept across, trapping the navis onto the comfy platform (Except for Arc).

Not so far from where they were, the same exact platform was drifting towards them, only it was filled with viruses that was ready to attack. More viruses began to emerge out from the lava and things was starting to look grim for the trios. Now that the floors were nothing but lavas, they could only rely on these cushion-like platforms!

"Ok... we are on a platform surround by lava..." Arc commented about her surroundings, before spotting another platform filled with viruses, and more in the lava itself. "And we have hostiles it seems." She said, watching the viruses. "Vik, you going to send the bombs again or am I to try something new?" Arc asked, tapping the side of her visor with her finger.

"Why don't you do a repeat of the last battle, they seem stuck on that platform so you should be able to get most if not all of them with just two bombs." Viktoryia said, slotting in the two energybombs.

"Blow up the ones on the platform, roger." Arc said, putting her hand back on her gun and aiming it towards the viruses on the platform. As the first of her bombs appeared in her launcher, the data being displayed on her visor became more accurate as she pushed some of her systems for a bit. Arc corrected her aim, and with the pull of the trigger launched the first of her deadly bombs.

Arc stopped pushing her targeting systems before they start to overheat, and her second explosive appeared in the launcher. She reaimed her gun before pulling the trigger, sending her second attacks arching through the air and hopefully hitting the platform and catching something in its blast.

The navi also prepped herself in case something survived the three navi's onslaught, ready to move out of the way of any incoming attack.

"Hmm...." Aelieth murmured to himself, taking a moment from his conversation (dead though it may be) to think on the Navis' current situation. "That lava is going to cause some problems if you need to leave the platform... Sending something to help," he told Holo, slotting in some chips before returning his attentions to his fellow operators.

One by one, the data uploaded itself into Holo's registers, ready to be activated immediately and without hesitation the nanosecond the Navi needed them. He happened to need one of them right then, as it happened, and activated the first of his chips. A refresh bar rose from the bottom of his feet to the top of his head and a second later Holo was standing there in a heavy, metal suit. He was completely enclosed, with a glass dome around his head, goggles over his eyes, cold vapour streaming out of vents in the suit, and a large, menacing rifle hooked up to twin canisters on his back. Though he could only show shades of green, the suit gave impressions of blues and blacks were he in color. Hefting the rifle, he aimed for the gap right in the middle of the lava flow between his group and the other platform and pulled the trigger. A globule of... something... propelled itself out of the gun, a stream of frozen vapour tracing its path through the air.

Before it finished it's arc, Holo refreshed once again, this time appearing in his normal form save for the large, sloshing bucket he held in his right hand. He hefted it up, supporting the bottom of the weighty container with his free hand, then flung its contents out across the battle field in a wide, sweeping arc. Trailing behind the vanguard of the attack were another two streams of liquid, both of which seemed reluctant to move forward if the strange, jerky way they jumped after the initial attack was any indication.

Down to two chips, the projector Navi decided it would be as good a time as ever to fall back on his most frequently used maneuver. This, of course, meant pulling out a rather large shield and hunkering behind it until his enemies attacked. "Thay shield must be incredibly heavy," a casual observer might remark, because while he was holding it between him and the viruses with the practiced ease of one who did this frequently, he appeared to be sweating profusely. Which, now that our observing friend thought of it, was a rather strange thing for a pile of electronics to do...

Shit! She was last off the mark again! If it kept up like this, these two losers were going to make a fool out of her.

"CHIPS!" Beatnik screamed up the pipe. She wasn't sure if Toni had the sound on or not, but either way, the chips came down. Beatnik skimmed what she'd got and dropped them into a battle order in her head. She was more than a little proud of herself. The plan was actually smart for once.

First, she slammed down a scarecrow on her left. She knew what would come next: a blast of electricity straight down the battlefield. That was just a distraction, though. The threat of the lightning would shove the viruses over into a clump on one side of the platform, where they turned into easy pickings. Before the Dollthunder could spit out its lightning, though, Beatnik was going to have to get up in their faces to maximize the damage.

And that meant skating right over lava.

Shit, she was losing valuable seconds as the Dollthunder's mouth stretched open. Come on, it was just a little lava, what was it going to do? She could fly, for crap's sake. Beatnik adopted a speed-skater's crouch, eyeing the bubbling lava nervously. I really hope this doesn't burn my feet right off.

Lightning crackled in the scarecrow's mouth. Time was up. She had to go.

With a furious scream that came right from her gut, Beatnik kicked off into the lava.

Except nothing caught fire.

Because Holo had just changed it into ice.

Instead, she skittered wildly to one side, surprised by the sudden change in terrain. She got herself back under control and tilted a bit to line herself right up with the viruses on the other platform. A bolt of lightning ripped by on her left, just singing her neon green hair. She snapped her fingers, and her orbital plates formed up into a wedge.

And then it was drive-by chaos.

Beatnik crashed into the line of viruses and then wheeled and slid around on the ice like a moron and crashed into them again, swinging her plate-wedge around like a cow-catcher. On her fifth and final pass, she flung out a hand behind her and fired off a trio of sonic rings. they plunged right into the heart of the viruses, and the resulting explosion would mess them right up. She skidded to a halt and pulled up an Elecreel in the shape of a sky-blue gauntlet that buzzed with electrical charge. Beatnik eyed the wreckage of the platform, just daring one of the viruses to stick their stupid heads out so she could sock it up its ass.

Arc decided to lead with a barrage of Energybombs at the platformed viruses, blowing up the tanks brilliantly while only beating down one of the Drixols due to the other deciding to make a beeline for Arc. She managed to dodge the attack, only to have the virus to warp through time-space and attack all of party in a line as Holo blew up the Volgears after fucking up the lava with an ice change.

Beatnik and Holo blasted up the Puffys together, before the former decided to bumrush everything and throw sonic blasts at anything else.

All clear.

Arc looked at the battle field after the battle had ended. Ice now connected the two platforms, and for some reason the lava stream that hit them no longer seemed to be there. Arc started to move towards the other platform, sliding along the ice panels with more skill then a non aqua navi probably should have, and started to collect the spoils of war after getting there. "Wow, a lot of zenny." she commented, having a sum that was more then she had gotten in Net Vegas from a single fight, probably double or triple the amount. She looked at the two navis, about to ask something when suddenly...

"Wait, Arc, I just remembered something." Her netop said, shifting her PET's connections and whatnot to look at the internet city BBS. "We forgot to try 'that' mission before we headed back to Sharo. So we might acually get to chose what 'that' was going to be." She said, making Arc sigh. "Arn't we a bit low powered to beable to do that right now?" Arc asked her netop. "Yes, expect we should be having enough zenny to get that last level, if we hurry back to ACDC and then Scilab for that upgrade." Vik responded, causing Arc to look at her two companions. "Well, it looks like I will have to leave." Vik said, dismissing her weapon. "Busting with both of you allowed me to learn at least something new... Oh, and Beatnik? If we team up again, you might want to not rush towards the viruses. I don't think either of us want you to get caught in the blast radius of my chips." She informed the two, before standing at attention, saluting, and then jacking out.
Holo watched as Arc zapped away, waving at the beam of light she left behind, then flung himself forward onto the ice. He suddenly had metal tines running along his stomach, and he slid towards the loot on a belly resembling a sled. That worked to ferry him to his destination until he hit the other side of the frozen river and flipped head over heels as friction reminded the Navi that it was still the boss around here. After he stood and dusted himself off, he walked over to the the data pile and claimed his prizes before uploading them to the PET.

After gathering buku zenny and an awesome new toy, he waved to Beatnik, and did what he did best: copy others. As in, he GTFO'd.
