A Cold Shoulder

((Lyntael Jacking in, from => Rogan's Sharo Hotel))
--------

When Lyntael arrived, it was surrounded, as she'd feared, but ice and snow all around. The light beam left her standing on her own, without a direction but she knew that this was the area that Rogan had double checked the bounty targets were supposed to be.

Before setting off, she took a moment to look at herself and catch her breath — it misted in the freezing air, and the fist few lungfuls hurt from the sheer temperature difference. She couldn't imagine being out in this place in her skirt and vest, and especially not in her bare feet, however much she disliked shoes, and the weight of them on her steps.

Rather than her normal light, breezy clothing, Lyntael was dressing from toe to head in substantially more cosy warm weather gear. Solid, sealed leather boots, brushed and stained to a warm yellow turned to a soft, white fur pattern as they rose past the heel to mid-way up her shins. They were topped with a re-curve of leather, stitched in and bossed with a silver decoration plate at the fronts.

A she shifted her feet and heels, Lyntael was aware of the sensation at her ankles; Despite herself, she'd taken care to make sure the outfit didn't interfere with the way her body insisted on working; silver filaments ran through the ankle sections of her socks and leggings, and were in constant contact with the raised, circular silver emblems that displayed themselves over both sides of the ankles of her boots

The leggings were also in her own yellow colour, of a tone that complimented the boots nicely, so she felt. they were warm, despite being very thin; the thermal design meant they only needed to be a few mils thick in the weave to provide excellent warmth, but it did mean that they hugged every contour and curve of her legs... and indeed the rest of her lower half as well, since they covered all the way up to her midriff, under her other clothes, although the only part of the leg wear that was visible was a small section between the tops of her boots and the bottom of her over-robe, which began at her mid thighs.

The thick winter over-robe bore a closed neck and sleeves that came to the middle of her upper arms. It was thin, but insulated on the inside by a tight-carded wool layer, and she'd made it tailor-fit to her body shape, hugging her chest tightly and suggesting the fact of her femininity, without really hiding the fact that she didn't have much of anything to suggest. It drew in at the waist, held by a broad leather belt with a silver buckle. She'd left the belt over-long, with the tail end hanging down the centre of the robe, almost to the base, and capped with a round replica of her emblem. Below the belt line, the robe was unadorned and white, save for the seams that bore a faint lightning bolt thread design around the edges.

She'd made the main part for the over-robe start front and centre below the waist, so that it followed behind the line of the belt, but sliding across to her hip behind the belt itself, so that it crossed upwards diagonally from the right hip, between her breasts, until it became one half of the the neck 'V', where her emblem would normally have been visible if it weren't covered by layers of warm clothing. Instead, a silver brooch held the neck closed, decorated as a representation of her emblem to be visible in its place. The rest of the way down to the belt was fastened with a series of simply toggle straps, and Lyntael rolled her shoulders and stretched her arms briefly, making sure that it was still leaving her fully free to move as she wanted to.

As she moved about and settled herself, she could feel the very slight sensation of the other layers beneath shifting against her skin. There was a simplified version of her normal vest under the rob, the buckles replaced with flat-lying fabric snaps to prevent any uncomfortable pressing with metal parts. Unsuitable on its own, she'd also added a simple arm shrug, consisting of and ultra thin form-fitting sleeves that covered her arms under the rob, and connected via a strip of fabric across the top and back and shoulders. It went all the way to her wrists, but the only parts of the shrug that Lyntael could see now were the seconds between the end of the robe's sleeves, and the middle of her forearms; the thick, mitten-style gloves covered the remainder in a tone of yellow that complimented the white parts of her outfit well. Similar to her boots, Lyntael had been sure to take care around her wrists. the gloves bunched slightly there, cuffed in silver braces that contacted thin filaments worked through the wrist of the gloves to press against her skin where her strikers hummed to themselves.

It made her happy to be in an outfit of her own design, especially when it complimented itself so well, and even facing down what she knew was going to be an upsetting and unpleasant ordeal that Rogan intended to force her through, the feeling of it was reassuring. She'd even taken the time to accessorise the outfit with other minor additions: A yellow scarf that lay flat around her neck and the tops of her shoulder,s and trailed down her back to end with another copy of her emblem picked out in white thread, and what she felt was a very cute stocking-style cap that did its best to mostly cover her wayward hair. the main portion was yellow, with a white ruffed brim that sat back from the peak of her forehead, leaving the tail to settle down to about her shoulder-blades where it ended in a fluffy pom-pom. Helping to keep the cap on and in place, a set of built in ear protectors made round woollen guards that also bore her navi symbol on their outer covers.

Lyntael stamped her feet once or twice more in the snow, rubbing he mittened hands together and breathing over them to look at the way her breath formed frosty mists each time. for a moment, she was strongly tempted to crouch down and make a snow ball, just for the sake of it, before Rogan's voice cut in and reality forced its way back into her awareness.

"Get moving, Lyntael. No slacking off from you today. We're pushing until you handle yourself better, and no excuses." She sighed and rolled her shoulders, then looked around and picked a random direction to walk in. At least it wasn't a blizzard or anything, yet.

"Yes, sir."

((Looking for Battle 1. Wearing Winter Weather GMO. Wind Subtype Selection: Gust, Airstep. Bounty: Bluegon))
Having been transported into the freezing Sharo network against her own will, Lyntael made do with a comfier version of her usual garb as she trekked through the main road laid out before her. As it was, the area she was in had some relatively light snowfall, and the main road had recently been cleared of the kind of thick snow that would usually impede progress, so as soon as she made her way a little further away from her entrypoint, her boots were stepping on solid paneling. Of course, she was there on orders to strengthen herself, so it wasn't exactly a leisurely walk, and it seemed like she would stumble on something soon enough -- the reason being that the road looked like it had been the victim of a very vicious being, featuring yawning holes smashed into the road at random intervals. If she were to look into one of the holes, she would see a scattered static field overlaid on darkness, so she would probably not want to fall into one of the holes anytime soon. Her footing soon became quite unstable as the holes became more numerous.

Soon enough, the main road was blocked off entirely by an entire section of destroyed road. Atop the destroyed section, a blue dragon hovered menacingly, further deterring anyone who would have wanted to use the roadway. Unfortunately, should Lyntael deign to make a U-turn, she would also be greeted by a small group of viruses approaching quickly from the rear. A duo of Weather viruses dropped from the skies, while a chunky Slimey virus was lagging shortly behind -- she was trapped!

-- Viruses --
WeatherWeather (Weather)

Weather viruses drop down from way up high, execute a breath attack, and rise back up. Dropping and attacking is an action, while moving back upward is a second action. They may also adjust where on the battlefield they drop next while in High Altitude as a free action. These are the only actions this virus family performs.

SlimeySlimey (Slimey)

Slimey viruses were produced to be sources of major traffic lag. While a Slimey virus is on the battlefield, all Navis and SPs suffer from a passive Slow-like effect that imposes a -10% Evasion AND Movement Speed penalty. This effect is not a status ailment, and cannot be cured. This effect does not stack with itself if more than one Slimey is on the field at once. As this does not count as a true Slow effect, up to two instances of Slow may stack on top of this effect for a total penalty of -30% Evasion/Movement Speed. This effect expires when all Slimey viruses on the field are deleted or flee. Slimey viruses are very slow to move and dodge, but every move they make that is not a dodge counts as an attack. Slimeys deal damage by touching an opponent, thus touching a Slimey directly results in damage to any non-Slimey the virus considers hostile.

-- Battle 1 Ready? Start!! --
After taking a minute or two to settle herself and begin wandering, Lyntael relaxed; The weather wasn't as inhospitable is it might have been, and she was dressed up warm and cosy, so even though her nose and cheeks were a bit chilly, the setting was strangely pleasant. The urge to play in the piles of snow she could see from the relatively clear road returned, and she smiled softly to herself at the thought, even though she didn't let her feet stray from her path. There was also a beauty to the snowy landscape that she could appreciate, looking around herself. It wouldn't have been quite so picturesque if she'd been in her normal clothes, and the thought made her shiver for a moment, glad again that she was appropriately dressed for once.

Rogan hadn't spoken since dropping her in — She was properly jacked in for once as well, rather than relying on his emulated link, and the transit down hadn't even felt remotely uncomfortable compared to the experiences that made up her 'normal'. Even so, roadway or not, Lyntael was aware that Rogan had seen her in to a relatively wild and unprotected area of the net, and the peace and quiet wouldn't last. Soon enough, the signs of viral damage tot he road itself caught her eye and the threads of trepidation grew as she walked more slowly forward, wondering, and dreading, what she was going to find. She didn't really know what Bluegons were, but whatever virus type it was, they were apparently rampant enough tow arrant a bounty call for them, in this area of the net. Her thoughts met with reality a few moments later a she found a virus presiding over one of the largest tears in the road surface not far ahead of her. Like it or not, the creature was both destructive and hostile; even she could see that for now, but without knowing what it was going to do, Lyntael approached cautiously, and on her toes, a slight spring staying in her knees and ankles each step, just in case it moved unexpectedly.

Rogan had stressed that this training was to help her panic less, and not shut down like she did in dangerous situations, and already her heart was beginning to beat faster, but form Lyntael's own perspective, something just as important as any of that was getting better at controlling herself, and keeping the excess of her charge manageable. Panicking was one problem, sure, but collapsing and nearly passing out from painful overload was a worse one, as far as she was concerned.

"Rogan... I've found something. It... It looks dangerous..." she began to circle off centre slightly watching the large virus over its broken holes and felt the hum of energy in her chest, reassuring while it was at this base-line level. Dealing with it while it was over those gaps was going to be... difficult, and she still had no idea how it was going to try to attack her either. Rogan's voice answered after a moment.

"Yes. That's the virus you're here for, according to this. There will be more. Learn how this one behaves, then deal with it, Lyntael. You will remain calm, and you will be efficient, understood?" Serious, but unconcerned in tone, she could practically feel Rogan setting the PET aside and returning to his own work after addressing her.

"Yes, sir." She answered anyway, still watching carefully. As she stepped, though, Lyntael could feel a slight heaviness in her movement, despite the swiftness she could move with these days. confused for a moment she turned around and a jolt of surprise arced through her body. Several more viruses had show up following behind her now and before she could stop or restrain either effect, her body's most instinctive reactions surged to the surface of her skin. Even though she was wearing much more covering clothing now, the electrical tension that hummed ready inside her found its way out through the conductive filaments by her strikers and layered a softly glowing field of energy over her, even as a thicker, more firmly defined field expanded from her core, stabilised its shell as it passed out over her strikers, and settled into an almost invisible electrical barrier that stood out from her by about a foot.

The two reactions had happened so often now that her body responded in a balanced way to them together, and though she felt a rise in raw energy inside her, and in particular around her wrists and ankles, the feeling was stable, and no more discomfiting than if nothing had happened at all. It wasn't controlled, and it hadn't been deliberate — she hadn't been able to react fast enough to stop either reaction, even she'd tried, but even so, a minor thread of thought in the back of her mind remarked how much she'd grown since the first times, only a few months ago. She could feel the layer of electricity in her skin, ready to explode outwards and drain off her charge with it, if anything laid any kind of harm against her enough to trigger it, but as much as she still internally dreaded that happening, for now, the effect on its own wasn't troublesome. Lyntael took a longer breath and blew it out again, a puff of white mist forming as she squared herself and prepared.

She spared a quick glance back over her shoulder for the territorial dragon virus, trying to guess whether it would chase her away from the hole it had made in the road, but the sluggishness she was feeling in the air seemed to be coming from the slow, blobbish virus at the back, so that would need to be what she dealt with first. She raced back the way she'd come, weaving as smoothly as she could between the the two hanging puppet things, then skidded low, putting one hand to the ground as she brought her left foot around to bear on the lag-inducing creature. At the last moment, when she was already committed, Lyntael squeezed her eyes shut in spite of herself. She had not desire at all to hurt anything, and she'd made friends with other viruses in the past... but these ones were causing damage and destruction and it was bad enough that other good people had put out these culling calls. It didn't maker her nay happier with the prospect, though, as she felt the brief surge of electrical energy loop through her body from each striker, in that familiar feeling, before combining at her core and flaring out in a static burst from the metal plates of her boot, conducted cleanly through from her ankle.

Following through, Lyntael rose smoothly to her feet again, still standing on her toes and in the mostly unconscious fighting stance of her own instinct, looking something between a martial form and a dance pose. Even as she stood, the minor drain of her expenditure was answered by a pulse of extra fall-off from the rest of her body, sending a stabilising shower of electrical sparks in every direction as her body balanced the small amount of charge re-growth easily for now.

With both of the Weather viruses already in range, they were quick to unleash a combination attack, blowing out a stream of icy breath towards her. One of the attacks went wide, but the other was not so off-target. Fortunately, by then Lyntael already had her electrical barrier up, and the frosty attack was absorbed harmlessly by its protection. Not-so-fortunately for the viruses, this also triggered her automatic retaliation, as they were both enveloped in an electrical storm that pushed them further off towards their Slimey friend, which was taking its sweet time to approach. Lyntael wasn't one to delay her attacks, either, as she approached quickly, leaving the slippery ice for the remaining solid ground and landing a charged kick on the Slimey, deleting it instantly. The Weather viruses received her stabilizing discharge as well, bringing them down to critical integrity and wiping them out.

Meanwhile, the strongest virus on the field observed from afar as the winter wear warrior blew apart the others. It reared up its maw, filling it with a gleaming blue light before it lurched forward to breathe it out, unleashing a torrent of glacial geysers towards Lyntael. Fortunately for her, the distance that she had created between herself and the dragon caused the shot to go wide, but even then, she could feel the power behind the attack -- this foe was no slouch at all.

Even before she could begin moving, the two puppet viruses made their attacks, and Lyntael could only try to cover her face as the icy blast blew against her. A part of her had hoped that being dressed for winter weather might help, but as the chill ice passed through her barrier and buffeted her slim form, the familiar sense of her body reacting burst outwards. for a moment, the girl tried to hold it in, hugging herself, but the recoil was too fierce, and too sudden, and it pulled a short, discomfited shout from her as it blasted off her body in every direction. Despite the feeling of breathlessness and the sensation of her charge draining and rebuilding in cycle, she pushed on with her initial plan, and once she had delivered her main strike, Lyntael picked herself up, breathing quickly and trying to get her bearings again.

The thing that was most surprising, in the next moment as her eyes moved around quickly, was that it looked as though the dragon, in its hole, was the only virus still threatening her. the puppets had vanished as some point, and the slowing effects of the strange blob had faded as well. Lyntael blinked and tried to calm her breathing as she watched the remaining virus more carefully.

The feeling of build-up was starting again, she could feel it, but it wasn't too bad yet, and if the dragon was the only ting left, she might be able to get herself clear before the charge got too bad. It was only a mild discomfort right now, so she moved up closer to the creature cautiously. It had attacked at some point, a flash of recalled sight reminded her, and the blast had looked far more fearsome than anything else that had tried to attack her so far, but if she was careful, she could avoid getting hurt.

As she drew near to the edge of where the roadway started to grow cracked and damaged, Lyntael watched and waited. She was supposed to be learning how this particular virus behaved, and so far it hadn't moved away from the deep hole in the network that it seemed to reside in. She didn't want to risk the dark abyss beneath the virus, but she knew she had the ability to arc her charge, if she tried. It had only happened a few times, and not really in her control, but learning how to do things that she knew she was capable of was a part of this exercise, wasn't it?

Taking along breath and trying to keep as light on her toes as she could in her winter-weather outfit, Lyntael focused on letting the charge in her extremities build. How had it happened before? She knew the action, but the last time she'd tried deliberately, it hadn't worked at all. Getting it to flow only ever seemed to happen when she was burning out so badly that she couldn't remember how, and at those times it happened unconsciously. She waited until she was sure she had a moment, then set her stance wider and raised her hands, palms together and outward, drawing her energy up and trying to push it out like she remembered. After a few moments, though, the static burn in her strikers made the girl wince and pull back, gritting her teeth. She was still doing something wrong; it was like trying to force the energy through a solid wall, and it just wasn't flowing.

With a shake of her head and a quick flicking of her arms to try and smooth off the discomfort in her wrists, Lyntael focused for the moment on dealing with whatever the dragon did next, while she waited for a window to try the less desired option. Slowly, she gathered the chill air around her and at her back, reaching out with her senses to pull and swirl it around her body. the jump wasn't too far — she'd definitely jumped far further and far higher with ease before, but the drop looked unfriendly and she didn't want to take any risks. when she was ready, Lyntael took an extra two running steps to the edge of the cracked terrain, then kicked off, the fierce gust of wind lifting and supporting her already light body.

She was aiming to pass by the virus' position, twisting in the air as she did to slam her opposite leg out and around at it as part of the crossing. As the charge drew in from each striker, though, the girl realised that it was far more electrical energy than she had channelled before, and the resulting explosion of force that released through her ankle striker as she turned was enough to make her gasp and blind her sight for a moment. In her mind, she'd planned to land neatly on the far side, stopping the momentum of her jump with a controlled touchdown and slide on her toes and with at least one hand down to steady herself.

What actually happened, after the charge expended itself and drained her body of energy for a moment, followed by a reactionary pulse of static trying to stabilise the release, was that the girl cried out and tumbled across the ground on the far side in an uncontrolled heap, the wind blowing past and away while her limbs failed to respond for a few seconds. There had been a rush of release, thrilling and exciting for a moment, but it was followed by the familiar empty ache and the slight burn of her core rapidly cycling up and gaining charge again. She groaned once and tried to scramble to her feet, ungainly and uncoordinated for a couple of moments while she steadied herself. The burn was certainly starting... Not painful yet, but the sort of feeling that would become so if it grew much worse.

Taken somewhat by surprise that her unconscious actions had actually eradicated all but one of her adversaries, Lyntael took the chance to recover slightly from her previous exertion to observe the dragon. Trying to charge up one of her stronger moves didn't work out, so she opted for a closer attack. Readying herself for the leap of faith, she then took off, leaping past the dragon as it reared back once more for a growl. The dragon breathed out a brilliant trail of vividly blue frost, but Lyntael's electrical defense was much stronger, and cancelled it out as her sweeping leg landed smack on its jaw. She managed to land safely on the other side of the road just in time to see it seize up and roar before disintegrating into a mass of junk data. In addition, her kick was apparently powerful enough to dislodge one of the dragon's teeth, which landed near her -- it could prove useful to be converted into Battlechip data.

Stumbling up, Lyntael took a stance on her toes without thinking about it, but when she steadied herself to look back, all she found were the data remnants of the viruses that had attacked her. She hesitated. Only some of that had been deliberate on her behalf, and her mind flitted back tot he accidents she'd had, hurting friends instead. Only now, everything that happened around her was growing stronger, every time she was pushed to it. The shocks that had only lightly stung friends before might now do them serious harm, and the things that had really hurt... She closed her eyes tightly for a few seconds, willing away the thoughts of Yoka.

"Good. Keep moving." Rogan's voice snapped the girl out of her thoughts and she nodded, before answering him properly. A part of her was pleased to hear the praise from him, such as it was, but she knew it would evaporate quickly if she actually tried to talk with him about anything during this... thing. Training. Exercise. Whatever it was he felt it should be called. Regardless of what he actually thought or felt, she understood him enough to know he'd get progressively more stoic and gruff with her the more she struggled.

She shook herself off, dusting at the remaining ice and snow that had caked itself on her outfit from the frost dragon virus. Her barrier had robbed the icy blast of its harmful effects, but she'd still felt the force that the breath attack had passed over her, and she felt lucky that it hadn't been bad enough to throw her off course. She could only hope that she wouldn't encounter more than one of them at a time, if she was lucky; Rogan wasn't going to accept her running away today, she was sure of that.

Her next long, deep breath misted in the air as she let it out slowly, steadying herself and feeling the edges of her charge settle down again slowly. Another small ripple of sparks fanned out from her unconsciously and she shrugged it off, then started to move further along the road, keeping an eye out for any more damaged sections. If the dragons were the cause of the destroyed roadways, and there was an over abundance of them, then it was bad for everyone anyway, so doing what she could was important, regardless of Rogan's plans. At least, that was the thought she clung to as she moved on.

((Ready for Battle 2))
((Overcharge -2 for between battle cooldown effects/time))

Moving further onwards into the network, the snowfall seemed to stop, and she was walking on sturdier land this time, with nary a snowflake in sight on the road she was walking on. Though it appeared to get warmer on the road she was going through, it was still nowhere near above freezing, as proven by the river she was crossing on a small arch bridge along the path. The sheet ice-covered river to her left and right was a drop of a few feet, certainly be a painful one for those uninclined to heights. As she reached the middle of the bridge, however, she would notice two things. The first was a small revolving green mystery data crystal just up ahead, guarded by a PulseBat flying atop it, along with a little white blob of a ghost, carrying a small pillow, hiding behind it.

The second would be a rather noticeably large hole in the river's ice, hidden by the bridge's shadow just prior as it was directly next to it. A pair of shaggy SnowBlow viruses were looking down into it, along with a flying Megalian head, wrapped in blue flames. Lyntael herself wouldn't be able to examine it for long, however, as a ferocious roar came from the hole, and a Bluegon shot out of it quite rapidly. It reached up all the way to the top of the bridge, and glared at her before roaring in her face to declare its hostile intent.

-- Battle 2 Ready? Start!! --
For a sort few moments, her other worries and trepidations were pushed aside as Lyntael let her eyes drift about the open area she was walking through. Hostile or not, the area was still a new set of sights and sensations for her to appreciate, and she smiled despite herself as she happened upon the cute little bridge crossing over the frozen river ahead of her. Even in a place like this, small touches like that were quite charming.

She began to cross the bridge slowly, running one gloved hand along the a rail and brushing the snow off it in a waving pattern as she went, then paused in the middle of the arch to turn and look out. Her hands rested on the rail as she watched her breath mist in front of her, then looked out at the rest of the scenery. Idly, she wondered if she could see which way the mountains would have to be, and which way the sea; there was no way to tell which way the river flowed while it was frozen over.

"You're not there to sight-see, Lyntael. Keep moving." Her brow furrowed as Rogan's voice cut in at her ear. A small pout crept over her features as she stood away from the rail again and sighed. Wasn't he working, anyway? It had to be either a very timely glance, or else he was paying much closer attention than he pretended.

"Yes, sir." Just as she turned back, though, the quickly fading sound of her own voice was replaced by another that caught her ear. The girl stepped over to the other rail, following it, but just as she approached to look over, the sudden roaring appearance of her next bounty virus dashed every other side thought from her mind. She tried not to panic; really, she did. Nevertheless, the creature was so close, bellowing right by her face, and it came as such a sudden shock, that the only response she managed first was a startled shriek.

She flinched backwards, raising one arm across her face as as the small of her back hit the far rail and she stumbled, overbalanced. Her hand other hand caught the rail, but her feet kept trying to desperately back off for an extra second and before she steadied herself, that one hand was the only thing holding her on the bridge as the rest of her form tipped over the side. Lyntael winced, trying to glance through the gaps in the railings to see what the dragon was doing, but her hand was quickly slipping; the glove was cosy, sure, but it wasn't the best for precision gripping. She pulled one foot up back to the edge, enough to steady herself and catch a breath, but in the residual shock of being surprised, the idea of climbing back over the rail towards the virus wasn't a thought for consideration.

There were other sounds too, her mind realised, but nothing that could hope to make itself a priority over the dragon virus before her. At some point she'd cried for it to stay back from her, without thinking, but it didn't seem to understand anyway. She could feel the lingering tingle in her extremities as well, that marked the sign of her barrier springing up again without her thinking about it. So much for control. The girl took a moment to consider her position, then closed her eyes for a second and drew in the wind around the area reaching out with her sense of it until she could guide it into a slim spiral of coiling wind beneath her as she let go. The drop was light and easy and she landed on her toes before crouching slightly, needing only a little bit of support from the winds around her to ease the decent; as far as jumps and drops went, Lyntael was used to far more acrobatically demanding exploits... just not one that were in the presence of vicious, violent dragon viruses.

The thought that had come to her as she let go was that she could probably make a strike on the virus from beneath, but once her feet hit the ice, the girl realised there were more viruses on the scene than just the one that had shocked her. Her eyes flicked between the others there, and alongside the one that was her bounty target, none of them looked immediately hostile. She hesitated and backed off, ducking to the side behind one of the supports on the bridge while the nerves of the situation made her wrists and ankles hum with energy.

"Rogan... Sir, there's... Um, There are other creatures here, sir, but, I don't think... they don't look—" She began trying to explain her reaction to him in a worried voice, but he cut her off with a flat, uncaring tone.

"This, Lyntael, is exactly what we are her to stop you doing. You have been given a task that everyone agrees needs doing. Do it. I don't care what you do about any of the other viruses here at present, but no more hesitation or fear in carrying out your goal. Do not talk, Lyntael. Act." Wincing, she couldn't help the unconscious hunch of her shoulders as he reprimanded her.

"But... I... Yes, sir." Swallowing, she grit her teeth. Well, if he didn't care, then he wouldn't mind her leaving everything else alone. Just the angry dragon then... and another ominous hole in the ground for her to avoid. The girl set her shoulders, getting her footing carefully on the ice and letting the remaining curls of wind guide her as she darted out of hiding, squared up and made a dash towards the cluster of viruses, the dragon's tail in the centre fixed in her sights.

The tension had set her skin coursing with energy, but she couldn't do anything to sooth it or calm it down now. The only thing she could hope to do was get through the cluster of other viruses and hope nothing else attacked her as she passed. Even as she approached, a portion of her attention worked hard to restrain the excess charge that threatened to roll off her body, and keep it from escaping... She'd never yet succeeded in holding it in when something hurt her, but she still had to try.

Boots crunched on the ice as she sprang up, guiding herself to pass as near to the edge of the gap in the ice as she dared, and spinning about in an action similar to her first efforts with this virus. This time, her form was more upright from the outset, making a much smaller jump, and the twist of her right leg around was aimed to strike at the highest point she could reach on the creature, before it came back down to catch her. The energy flowed as she lashed out, cycling in, unifying and exploding outwards in a flare of electricity from her striking foot that drained off the majority of energy from her core.

She was more ready for the expenditure itself this time, though the drawing effect still made her gasp, and the moment of emptiness and hollow ache of the drain was immediately replaced by a growing swell that made the gentle hum of her charge all the more present to her senses. Her hope was to race through the cluster of viruses, strike the hostile one, and get clear of them again without disturbing the others, hopefully quickly enough to move through before any of them attacked her either; if any of them took umbrage at her swift approach, she could only do her best to hold back the charge that laced her skin, and she'd never succeeded before.

Lyntael ran away, she bravely ran away, away. When danger reared its ugly head, she bravely turned her tail and fled. Brave Ms. Lyntael turned about, and valiantly she chickened out...

And ducked over the side as a wave of icy breath washed over the bridge. She landed gracefully with help of her Airstep ability and tried to hide herself behind one area of the bridge. However, the two immobile SnowBlows inhaled deep, pulling the poor navi all the way over to them. When she finally regained her feet, she was standing in the shadow of the great Bluegon. The Megalian looked down on her from above, but didn't attack. It looked like it was grinning at her though.

As Lyntael was charged with electricity, the PulseBat dropped down from above the bridge and released a sonic screech at her. It struck the electromagnetic barrier around Lyntael and did nothing to her. Lyntael than launched her attack on the Bluegon before it could draw another breath, and struck it dead on the belly (where dragons are weakest). The Bluegon roared in pain before it toppled over and crashed into the ice and snow of the river bank.

As Lyntael was celebrating the defeat of her biggest foe, the blob of white with a pillow appeared next to her. It flailed its pillow every which way, missing Lyntael completely. It was probably still trying to recover from some sort of hangover. Anyways, it teleported back to its position with the green crystal directly afterwards.

And it was at that point that Lyntael started feeling like she was hungover as well. Her processes slowing down and her body becoming heavier. Her mind also started fogging over as the electricity in her body started short-circuiting her nerves.

Lyntael's ears were still ringing from the screech that had pierced the air, and as she picked herself up again from her jump, her feet slipped on the ice and spread out, making the girl stagger for an extra few moments. Still getting her bearings and blinking, her eyes brushed over the degrading form of the dragon that had frightened her and she backed off from it and from the hole it had risen from. It still confused and surprised her how swiftly it had fallen, for such a fearsome virus. she was sure that nothing she was doing, herself, was that powerful.

Her backing up steps carried her directly into the shaggy exterior of one of the viruses that had been settled on either side of the hole. They'd both turned on her, inhaling strongly enough to drag her close, and now that she was, the nervous girl got a good view at the impressive size of this one's mouth, open and showing what seemed like enough teeth and tongue to swallow her whole.

A small gasp, halfway to a shout, was the only sound that escaped as the additional shock of this sight set her strikers tingling and broke through her tenuous grip on her body's other natural reactions. As she lashed out unsteadily with an arm energy flared from her wrist; a small burst of electricity built and released in a moment while a reactionary wave coursed off her in other directions. Without really pausing to see what had happened, she turned over and scrambled away a few more paces, momentarily accepting the feeling of energy cycling around and swelling again. So they were hostile after all. Ok, just focus and be careful...

Her eyes glanced up to the two targets now above her... the bat had been the one that had shrieked before, and while she had seen a virus that looked similar to the floating head above her, this one looked, if anything, even more creepy to her with its leering expression. Panting quickly, with her breath misting in the air, she tried to concentrate on Rogan's instructions. Don't panic, just think, then act. Think, then act. Her eyes darted about again as the charge swelled inside her, humming. She still felt numb in places from the earlier expenditures, and her hands shook, but in the midst of the danger Lyntael only afforded herself a moment to steel herself before moving again.

the other shaggy-haired virus also had its mouth open, though as she darted quickly towards it, she noticed it seemed much more like it was about to exhale, rather than try to eat her. She ducked to the side, almost losing her footing as she did, and put one mittened hand to the ground hard as she let the momentum swing her weight around the point. her left leg stayed bent from the first half of the turn, then cracked out as she pivoted, striking for the side of the strange beast as the race of electricity drew inwards to unify then outwards again in a second small burst of light and static.

Her body stopped as she felt her foot strike the thick matt of fur, the momentum of her movement spent. Again, she'd let her eyes close as the energy flowed, and it was only as she opened them afterwards that she'd be able to tell if her efforts had had any effect on it. She felt so unstable on the slick ice, and between that and her already sluggish limbs, Lyntael felt more clumsy in her efforts than she could ever remember feeling, but she rolled away and began to push herself back to her feet again as quickly as she could manage. She'd hoped the other creatures wouldn't be aggressive once she'd dealt with the violent one, but with that hope dashed the girl was left trying to keep eyes on everything around her at once while her heart beat ever faster. The energy inside her was rebuilding faster now, as she expended more and more. It was a familiar feeling at this point, but it was strong enough to be uncomfortable, beginning to burn and strain inside her. She had to keep it under control, that's what she was really here to practice, no matter what Rogan said or thought.

My Heart Falters: 1 Turn
My Pain is Real: 2 Turns
While Lyntael stumbled about while she got herself back on her feet, the Megalian took the initiative in attacking her, launching its head forward with a frighteningly calm expression. Luckily, her staggering barely allowed the headbutt to skim past the top of her head, and the Megalian retracted back into its protective blue aura. The Snoozy from earlier reappeared next to her once more while she looked back up at the menacing head and bat. The sleepy-looking ghost whipped its downy white pillow lazily, which of course wasn't going anywhere near Lyntael. Unfortunately, the SnowBlows next to her were, in fact, close to her, and expelled little bursts of wind at her.

The wind bursts fizzed against her barrier, which promptly responded to the attack with a powerful discharge, electrifying the surrounding area. With its wide area of effect, the viruses about her, which had originally ganged up on her were blown back hard. The Snoozy was also roasted completely from the charge, and dissipated into a wispy white smoke. Lyntael wasn't about to let this opportunity go to waste, either, charging towards the SnowBlows and knocking them out with a well-placed burst from her strikers, as well as a pivoted kick. Despite her sluggish movements, her attacks hit true to her mark, owing to the fact that the shaggy viruses were mainly immobile. The bat from earlier flew up into the sky, observing her from far above, deciding whether to approach any closer.

In between standing up, the repeated buffets from either side tugged Lyntael left and right and cut chillingly across the small amount of expose skin still visible at her cheeks. She could feel the recoil of each little strike feeding back through her barrier and the girl drew her arms up over her head, wincing and gritting her teeth. A moment later the burn that strained to get out in response snapped and she lost hold of it with a sharp cry, slim body arching involuntarily upright for a few seconds as the shockwave of energy tore outwards.

A secondary gasp for air, and another, came before she managed to open her eyes, mittens on the ice in front of her and a pain in her knees from where she'd dropped roughly to them after the release had run its course. She groaned, but forced herself up again to look around and assess the aftermath of the reaction this time. It was so much broader and more violent than it had been once, but she was no better at controlling it now than she'd ever been. How was she ever going to avoid hurting her friends, if she couldn't get a hold of this?

As she looked around, Lytnael realised she was still gritting her teeth and hugging herself fiercely. the hollow ache had lasted only a moment before the current was already cycling back. The need to release it again, the sense of tingling, burning discomfort in her body, was already pressing up, even before she'd fully recovered. Her wrists and ankles hummed with energy, the metal plates on the outsides of her winter clothing glowing softly as they held the building charge.

She could still focus and think, but already the hot static feeling was fraying at the edges of her mind. She needed time to calm down again, but Rogan wasn't going to give it to her, and she knew he wasn't going to accept any running away either. Lyntael swallowed and tried to force her limbs to relax, breathing deeply. The only two things left here now were both attacking her, and even though they had both paused now, she'd seen enough to know they weren't going to stop and fly away. She had to get the fight finished before her charge cycle got too strong for her to think clearly.

Her heart didn't want to slow down in the same way she was forcing her breathing to; the pulse of electricity scoring at her body wasn't letting it, but she moved anyway, darting forward across the ice as nimbly as she could to line up her sights with the creepy-faced virus, and the bat fluttering high above. As she looped around the other virus, electricity crackled at her wrists and ankles unbidden, and danced in small sparks across the smooth surface of the river ice when she skidded to a halt and put one hand down, gathering herself into a low crouch. Her eyes were beginning ti itch and tingle at the corners as well, but she blinked it away and focused on drawing the breeze that blew the length of the river in around her instead, curling it and drawing it up underneath her as she sprang forward and upwards.

As her knees unfolded and she kicked off, the girl brought one arm up guarding her face and aiming to strike the Megalian virus aside as she passed by it. A fall-off wave of electricity fell from her when she jumped, just ahead of the flow of energy that responded to her action and channelled out in a flash from her leading wrist. Lyntael had been ready for it, and let her body move by instincts that she was beginning to understand she could trust, at least somewhat. Her form twisted as she passed the head virus, continuing in the upward jump that would bring her level with where the bat fluttered, further off, then, in the natural follow through of the twist, her form curled over at the peak of the jump, wind currents tapering off and causing her opposite heel to cut in overhead, at her main target. the energy flowed a second time, still in cycle from the first partial release and this time draining her completely in a second, flare of sparks.

For a moment, as she turned over in the air, Lyntael caught a glimpse of the bat creature's metallic helmet and an idle wisp of thought wondered if it was conductive, before the momentum of the kick carried her back over and she dropped out of the wind column and back towards the ground. On instinct, she landed neatly, one hand on the ground and on her toes, knees bending to catch her slight weight and one foot sliding out to the side to further compensate and keep her stable. Less graceful was the second that followed where the draining sensation and the aggressive rebuild of her internal charge made her falter and wobble, then slip on the slick ice and tumble to the side, sitting with one leg out and panting hard. She rocked, eyes squeezed closed against the sensation and the sting in her eyes, trying to master herself. Electrical haze was beginning to crowd her thoughts, and she was too focused on fighting off the surge inside her to look at the rest of the battle field right away.

"On your feet, Lyntael. You aren't finished yet." Rogan's voice was colder than the ice or the snow, and her clothing didn't provide any insulation from it. Lyntael hunched over on herself at the words, but nodded her head in silence and crawled onto her hands and knees, then began getting to her feet.

After somewhat successfully forcing herself to cool down after her electrical exertions, Lyntael moved towards the only place where the ice wouldn't hinder her -- which was up into the air. Her body rocketed towards the menacing Megalian, now depleted of its earlier blue-tinged protective aura. The virus attempted to swerve out of the way of Lyntael's sky-soaring attack, but luck was not on its side as its nose was entirely shaved off by the Navi's momentum-charged heel. It crackled with excess electrical discharge before crumbling into pieces and fell onto the ice.

Meanwhile, Lyntael was flying even further up, with her sights on the PulseBat virus. Once more, she struck at the bat with her lightning-infused attacks. It was heavily injured by the attack, and retaliated with an ear-piercing shriek. The air shook and her ears pounded, but fortune was on Lyntael's side, as the damaging portion of the attack appeared to have missed her by a hair. Now, she dropped back to the ground, nearly exhausted out of her wits, with one enemy left in her sights.

The current was starting to overwhelm her again. Lyntael knew that much as she staggered on her feet. She knew it in a distant, broken way that was clouded into fragments by the wash of white electrical static filling her senses and muffling her thoughts in the nerve-fire pain of electricity coursing her limbs. It was a familiar feeling; she knew that too, and hated it. Proper thoughts about her situation were having trouble stringing themselves together in her mind while she tried to fight down the resurgent force that her charge built with, training beneath her skin and desperate now to flow, and relieve her of the pain its presence was causing, if even only for a moment or two.

The girl's arms hugged about herself as she hunched over on the ice, rocking slightly and her expression a winced mask of effort an discomfort. The small cascade of excess sparks was beginning to trail free and think from her eyes now, even when she squeezed them shut against the sting of it and for the first few moments as she fought to keep her feet, most of Lyntael's world revolved around simply trying to deal with her internal sensations and little else. The deep breath she tried to take began as a tremulous, high-pitched gasp and ended as groan that bordered on the edge of cracking into a sob.

"Lyntael. Fight. React however you must, if you must, but function as you do." She barely hear Rogan's voice behind her shoulder, and the content of his words trickled though in pieces over the next few moments. She did manage a not, and to raise her head again, looking at the shrieking bat that continued to taunt her. She swiped out at it with one hand, trying to turn away and step back form it as she did. A crackle of sparks followed her mittened hand as it did, drawing an arc in the air before the burst of charge flared at the end, drawing off some of the excess that burned inside her, and giving Lyntael a brief softening of the burn.

She staggered back further, feet still sliding on the ice and looked around. It was just one virus left here and now. She just needed time to balance out again. Just time. As the swell rose to bursting point again right away, another wave of energy danced across the surface of the ice, rolling out from her in a pule. The shudder made her balance slide again, and she caught herself on the sheer, rocky wall at the edge of the river. She glanced to the bridge, above, and took a moment to try and steady herself again, reaching out to the air currents that still swirled and curled around her and letting it lend her lift as she sprang upwards. Her initial goal had been to catch the rail and hop back over onto the centre of the bridge, but her hands and arms didn't respond as quickly as she'd hoped. Instead, she fumbled at the rail and awkwardly managed to scramble over it, to land on her back against the wooden slats, panting as she looked up at the sky. Her eyes scanned for the bat, but she didn't see it right away.

Small curls of black smoke began to rise from the wood to either side of her head where the cascade of sparks falling from her eyes began to scorch it, but as Lyntael rolled over and pulled herself up again, one hand on the railing, she felt another pulse from the core of her body, drawing at least a thin layer of the overbearing energy away and balancing it. The light static shell of her barrier revitalised itself as her strikers glowed and the girl fought to keep her mind focused and her awareness on the present.

Nearly overwhelmed by her own exertions, Lyntael almost doubled over to attempt to calm herself down and allow the charge to dissipate, but Rogan was having none of it and ordered her to continue standing. The bat wasn't about to play audience to it either, and prepared to fly back up. Unfortunately, it received an electrified backhand swipe from the pained maiden, which was just about enough to completely delete it. She then leapt back up to the safety of the bridge, albeit quite clumsily, where the soothing green shine of the Mystery Data waited for her, ready to reveal to her its contents. Whether those would be beneficial or malicious would be up to her to discover...

SnoozySnoozy (Snoozy)

Snoozy are about 2 feet tall, and are shaped like a white translucent blob of goo, forming a basic head, body, and arm, with the body trailing behind. The head has an oversized nightcap covering most of it, colored dark blue, with white dots as stars. The end of the nightcap has a hanging moon from it. The lone arm carries a thick white pillow by the corner, with some down leaking out of a tear. The coloring scheme of its main body changes with its version. Snoozier are red, and Snooziest are blue. A menacing black Snoozy DS has an additional feature of serrated teeth forming a giant jaw. EX forms are darker shades of their originals. Snoozy attack by flailing their white pillows around and spreading their apparent sleepiness around. They start their attack by teleporting up to their targets. The teleport counts as a dodge if utilized correctly. They then teleport back to their original spot, and do not move otherwise. They may use their secondary full-heal at any time, though they are more likely to do so when they are injured. Snoozy viruses only appear when there is cover to hide behind, and will stay behind this cover for the entirety of the battle except to attack. They will not appear otherwise. If their cover is destroyed, they will attempt to flee starting next turn if they do not have a specified object chip to be dispensed first.

It was several more long seconds before Lyntael managed to do more that stare at the railing she was supporting herself with. She heard Rogan's voice commanding her to keep moving, and managed a nod without responding, but even so, it took a little while. She still couldn't see the bat anywhere, but Rogan sounded like he knew better, so she left it at that. Long slow breaths helped her pull her thoughts together and she moved slowly over towards where the data crystal rested, waiting for her body to pulse with static one more time before approaching it.

Her hand hesitated for a moment, recalling the previous time that such a crystal had been the disguise of an even more unpleasant virus, but her thoughts skittered away from the memory, refusing to engage or think about it further, tied a it was to past problems and recollections of Him. there wasn't anything she could do about it anyway, if it was a hidden creature. Energy strained under her skin and she grit her teeth, holding it tight and concentrating instead on breathing, and forcing her body to calm down as she reached out to activate the crystal.

((Open MD: NCP Millions active))
Hesitating slightly, Lyntael went ahead and reached out for the Mystery Data crystal, which began to decrypt itself on her touch. Its green light faded away, and the hard exterior folded away to reveal a small data sphere inside, packed with a cache of zenny.

[GMD: 2000z]
The girl breathed a small sigh of relief, watching her breath mist the air as the crystal unpacked itself without issue. She took the spare few moments to shuffle in her boots and rub her mittens together, looking around again, but Rogan didn't give her any real time to relax.

"It is strange how well you seem to be doing now, Lyntael, when you struggle so terribly in the moments that it matters. It seems you aren't being pushed hard enough yet. Keep moving. The purpose of this exercise is to press you, and the more you rest the less we achieve." Rogan's voice, serious and unamused just behind her shoulder made her look down and away from it, eyes trailing over the fresh snow instead. Her mind was still piecing itself together from her exertions before, but there was nothing that she could think of to say that wouldn't simply be returned with another reprimand, given the mood Rogan was in right now. How to tell him that she wanted to be able to help him, truly she did, and he didn't have to be cruel about it? Words shifted around in her mind, failing to put themselves together into something useful.

"Yes, sir." She swallowed, then moved on. She'd only taken a few more steps down the path that she was following, however, when Rogan's voice cut in again.

"Off the path, Lyntael. We need to find you more challenging fights, if you're doing so well, and they won't be on the beaten road." A small sigh escaped her in a puff of frosty mist and she paused to look around at her surroundings. It wouldn't do to tell Rogan that the net usually didn't work that way. He wouldn't listen. If anything it would just slow her down to have to trudge through the snow rather than solid ground. She let her eyes turn towards the hills and winced, then rubbed at the chilled parts of her face with one mitten and pulled her scarf up a little more.

"Yes, sir," was all she said as she began moving off the road, and into the less maintained areas.

((Ready For Battle 3))

With Lyntael's transition into the less traveled areas of the Sharo networks, she found herself moving down a small set of stepped cliffs, which, while quite large in comparison to herself, was still enough for her to forge through, in order to find more challenging fights. Soon, however, she found herself on a steep snowy slope, which appeared to have suffered a recent avalanche. Some parts of the slope had even frozen over, though that was through no fault of the environment. A few viruses seemed to be having a jolly time sliding down the slope. Three of them were Penguin-type viruses, rocketing down the snowy mountainside without a care in the world. Accompanying them was an entourage of two hockey puck-shaped Dharma viruses, perched on top of mounds of snow. One of them was even sitting next to a normally menacing-looking Bluegon, which hovered over an empty space smack in the middle of the snowy slope. For now, the three of them observing the penguins enjoying their playtime, and were clearly unaware of the newly arrived spectator behind them.

-- Viruses --
DharmaDharma (Dharma)

Dharma move and dodge at average speed. Their puck attacks rebound off of the edges of the battlefield as if there were an invisible wall there. They can rebound up to 3 times before finally passing off of the field or dissipating into thin air. The pucks pass through anything they hit except boundary walls, terrain, and friendly viruses. The pucks can not damage other Dharmas. This virus cannot attack while moving.

Penguin viruses have an ability called Ice Body which acts as Iron Body on Ice terrain only. This effect is bypassed by Break for normal damage, and can only be nullified by changing the terrain to something other than Ice. Penguins move by sliding across the ground quickly, making them faster than average but predictable at the same time. They stop moving in one direction when their momentum gives out, or they run into something. They do not cause damage if they run into someone, but they might knock them backwards.

-- Environment Notes --
Sloped Snow/Ice Terrain:
- Without actively spending a movement-type action (Movement/Feint/Dodge) to oppose it, stepping directly onto the sloped terrain area will cause any grounded combatant to slide down the slope automatically for the distance equivalent of one Feint per action, sans the 25% base evasion value.
- Any Aqua-type combatant, or those with the FloatShoes/Planeswalking effects may opt out of this auto-slide.
- Using a movement-type action to go down the slope instead of up is additive to the auto-slide, and grants a +10% Evasion bonus in addition to whatever penalties or bonuses the terrain already grants.
- The entire slope is two and a half full movements from top to bottom in terms of distance. It is narrow enough that no additional movement actions are needed to execute any attacks from either side to the other.
