A Cold Shoulder

((As per personal restrictions, Lyntael is not being allowed to rest properly between conflicts — Overcharge and signatures will only cool down as far as the intervening time feels practical, and not completely.))

The heavy layer of snow came all the way to the cuffs of her boots as Lyntael trudged through the snow, her cheeks pink and her breath making small, regular clouds in front of her face as the effort began to sap her breath. She wanted to stop and admire the scenery more, but Rogan's testy urgings kept her shoulders hunched and her head down as she pressed on.

Her footing slipped a few feet, and the girl gasped and threw out hands to steady herself as the slope she was on dropped away sharply past the crest and descended on a steep plane. In the few moments that it took her to get her footing steady, though, Lyntael caught he shapes of other viruses at the edges of her vision and held her breath without really thinking about it. A small spill of fresh snow slipped down the incline past her as she stopped herself, but it likely wasn't anything out of the ordinary in the setting, and they didn't seem to have noticed her just yet.

Moving as cautiously as she could, Lyntael scuttled and faltered her way across to one of the rocks and braced herself behind it, back against the stone and using the protruding shape to guard against any further slips. Nerves were making her heart beat quickly again, and the glow of energy, still not fully subsided from earlier, hummed. With a small wince she focused on keeping any reactions from giving away her position as she stole a quick glance out form around the frozen stone.

There was another of the dragon viruses in the group, but it seemed calmer than others she'd seen so far, and none of the other viruses looked exactly violent. They were off the beaten path that any navis might regularly treat, too, and it didn't really seem like any part of their game was particularly destructive. Lyntael bit her lip, looking down the slope before ducking back behind the rock and closing her eyes for a few breaths. She opened them to look up at the sky overhead, but it didn't offer any answers.

"No delays, Lyntael. There is another target ahead of you. fight and move on, no panicking, no hesitation." Rogan's voice by her shoulder made the girl flinch suddenly, and she cringed lower in her hiding place.

"Sir... These aren't... I don't think—"
"That is irrelevant, Lyntael. We discussed this. You have a bounty, now carry it out."
"But, Sir, this isn't—"
"No arguments, Lyntael!" The snap of his words made her curl in on herself, mitten-clad hands covering over her already well protected ears by instinct. It didn't help, of course. Her strikers were beginning to glow and crackled as she squeezed her eyes shut to block out the increasingly heated exchange.

"They aren't doing any harm!"
"They are viruses, and you have a job that you have been contracted to do!"
"I don't want to attack these ones!!"
"What you want is irrelevant!"
"It's not right!!" As she hunched over on herself, Lyntael could feel her skin beginning to tingle more and more as her stress grew. If she'd been more assertive, or more willing to disobey Rogan, she might have managed to just run away or move on; as it was, she was reduced to pleading with him instead, and it was only as she uttered the last line she the girl realised her pleading had risen to fairly loud shouts back at her operator. She stopped, moving hands from her ears to clasp over her mouth instead, but it was far too late already, and there was little chance that some of the viruses at least hadn't heard her by now.

Moving through the area as quietly as she could manage, Lyntael hid among one of the rocks in the area. However, as sturdy as they were to stop her descent down the mountain, they didn't serve as very good cover, as they were barely enough to hide her figure. Her strikers began to crackle as she argued the need to attack the viruses with her operator. Things got heated up, and voices were raised. Though the slope had already been subject to an avalanche, the girl was about to be subject to a different kind of downfall as most of the viruses all took notice of her -- save for two of the Pengi, which were too far down the slope to hear. The blue dragon roared mightily as it breathed out a gout of icy air. Fortunately for her, Lyntael had already taken cover behind the rock, which shielded her from the attack.

Her luck was not terribly high, however, the other viruses had other ways of getting around her cover. The hockey puck-shaped Dharma viruses immediately spat out two metal disks from their undercarriages, whacking them along with their hockey sticks. The pucks rattled about the battlefield before hitting her square in the shoulder and jaw (-15) (-15), causing her to release her built-up charge. The discharge rattled her cover as it threatened to dislodge it, but no more. However, the radius of the discharge was only enough to catch the Dharma sitting close to her, though it was enough to completely destroy the mound of snow it was on, and knocked it over onto the slope. Meanwhile, the one Pengi that had noticed her arrival released a large snowflake. The flake danced about in a zig-zagging motion before it passed by her, thankfully harmlessly. Looks like its aim was slightly off. Still, the Bluegon's roar had attracted the attention of most of the viruses now, and Lyntael was about to be in a whole world of trouble.

Sloped Snow/Ice Terrain:
- Without actively spending a movement-type action (Movement/Feint/Dodge) to oppose it, stepping directly onto the sloped terrain area will cause any grounded combatant to slide down the slope automatically for the distance equivalent of one Feint per action, sans the 25% base evasion value.
- Any Aqua-type combatant, or those with the FloatShoes/Planeswalking effects may opt out of this auto-slide.
- Using a movement-type action to go down the slope instead of up is additive to the auto-slide, and grants a +10% Evasion bonus in addition to whatever penalties or bonuses the terrain already grants.
- The entire slope is two and a half full movements from top to bottom in terms of distance. It is narrow enough that no additional movement actions are needed to execute any attacks from either side to the other.
The increasingly vocal debate between Lyntael and her operator was ultimately cut off by the alerted roar of the dragon beyond her hiding spot. The girl bit back a startled cry, cringing down behind her rock further and putting a stop her her arguments as the icy breath crashed over the snow around her and to either side. It had only been a wistful hope, she had to admit that to herself, but before the creature had bellowed its hostile intent, it had still been one she'd wanted to fight for. Now... huddled behind the precarious lump of frozen ice, she just felt naive and stupid again.

Rogan had gone quiet for the moment as well, but she had no doubt he'd have some other chastisement for her, especially now that he'd been right. The blast of breath subsided with a growling rumble, and Lyntael was just about to look out, when the pair of skittering pucks angled around her sanctuary and struck her from each side. The two blows twisted her about and made one foot slide through the thick snow just to keep her footing, but even as they drew small exclamations from her, the charge under her skin rebelled. She resisted for a moment, staggering with her eyes closed tight, but it wouldn't be denied and the wave of electrical backlash arched her upright again as it spread. The build started at once, barely giving her enough time to pant a breath or two of the frigid air and bring one hand to her face to cradle the hot, bruised feeling on her jaw. There was the faint taste of blood inside her mouth where the impact had made her bite something and she winced.

"What have you learned, Lyntael? You cannot hesitated. The dangers you must certainly face in the future will not." Besides cold, Rogan's reprimand sounded... bitter, and annoyed. Lyntael shook her head, trying to look around, and saw the dragon, floating above its gap in the snow. Whatever he said, that wasn't the lesson she wanted to take from this. It just wasn't. The voice continued. "You will strike first, and you will strike hard, whenever danger presents itself, Lyntael. There is no room for panic, and no room for your pointless fear. The pain you feel is not real pain, and the effects of it are removed in a moment. Now, you will—"

"Stop it! Just stop it! You aren't right!" Hands over her ears again, Lyntael cut him off with a shout, and a returned pulse from her core hummed as it drank up some of the swiftly rebuilding current and spread into her familiar barrier field in an instinctive effort to shut out the world for a moment. The side of her face felt almost painfully hot, compared to the rest of her, and she could feel the blood throbbing with her pulse around the hurt area. The roar of her internal current was already seething back towards full capacity, aching and over-stressed muscles complained of its return. Rogan let her outburst go for now, but she guessed it was only because she was making some small signs towards doing as he said. These viruses were attacking her now, and Rogan wasn't going to let her run away, so that only left doing her best to deal with them before they harmed her any further.

Her boots crunched in the snow, threatening to slip and she began to move with as much purpose as she could muster, struggling to keep her position stable. One of the hockey-type viruses was nearest her, and she moved to strike out at it with a broad-armed sweep before it could launch more of its unpredictable weapons. A pulse of static accompanied the sweep of her arm, spilling off her body in every direction, bleeding away a little more of the raging build-up that filled her, but not enough.

The dragon was still watching, and she was sure it was about to exhale more icy pain in her direction, so she ran, as best she could through the snow, and slid down further to put the next mound of snow between herself and the creature. The other hockey virus was perched on top of it, and as she approached, Lyntael jumped up, bringing the back of her heel around as she crested the mount and aiming to dislodge it from its perch. The build up of energy flowed at the first opportunity, well beyond her ability to stop it in the moment. Her strikers blazed, sending their energy inwards to combine at her core, then out again, expelling a brilliant flare from the metal plate at the ankle of her wide-swinging boot.

She landed in the snow behind the mound, going down hard as the extra expenditure drained her body for the moment and caught her by surprise. The length of her body sank a few inches into the snow and she lifted her head first, trying to get the sensitive skin away from the freezing substance quickly. Emptiness was replaced by scorching charge again, even before she could get as far as her hands and knees. She remained prone in the snow behind the mound for a moment more, catching her breath and struggling to keep calm before trying to rise properly.

Retaliating against her operator even as the viruses demonstrated their hostility against her, Lyntael's outbursts activated her electrical barrier, protecting her from the Bluegon's next attack, which was to unleash a wave of blue-tinged energy through the ground. She was slightly dislodged from her hiding spot, though that didn't faze her much with her next move already being a straight dash across the snow to attack the newly toppled Dharma. It attacked in tandem with its comrade of the same species, spitting out two metal pucks that bounced about the battlefield, before thankfully sliding off the mountain harmlessly. Her sweeping attack connected shortly after, deleting the Dharma successfully.

The next hockey player was up next, and though her intention was simply to shove it off of its snowy mound, her explosive kick expelled enough energy to delete it entirely, before she managed to duck under the cover of the mound that it originally occupied. By this point, all of the Pengi were well aware of the new visitor, and one of them made its way further up while its friends continued their icy onslaught on her. Enormous snowflakes danced about the snow towards her location, zigzagging through the area before one of them smacked right into her face just as she was trying to catch her breath. While the damage was mitigated by her barrier, frost caught in her lungs with her attempt to recuperate as she felt her body being invaded by its cold touch, and her limbs rapidly began to lose feeling.

Another roar of freezing breath rolled over Lyntael as she threw herself down in the snow behind the second mound, and she gasped, hunching up on herself as the freezing air tore at her lungs. She barely had time to look up and flinch away as another frost-laden attack curled around the side of her cover and impacted, sending long, icy fingers piercing through her despite her warm clothing. The girl convulsed, unable to breathe for a few seconds. Unconsciously, her body fought to breathe in, and to groan in frost-bitten pain at the same time, and no sound came out save for a low, faltering tremor. She rocked, curled up against the cold with her arms locked tight about herself and fighting to hold onto some fleeting echoes of warmth, but in her fingertips inside her mittens, and at her toes, despite the warm, thick layers of her boots, her extremities complained of icy, frozen pain.

Just under her skin, the current still raged, creating an unpleasant dichotomy against the exterior of her body; the charge built, humming and crackling inside her, bordering on painful itself, but the burning sensation of it still provided no warmth or relief from the chill. Still rocking and shuddering, she looked up and around, eyes turning in a haze. This was no hiding spot. It looked like it should be safe, and she couldn't see anything, but it wasn't. The drifting snowflakes and the curling frost that blasted across the snow was still finding its way to her here.

Her first efforts at moving were awkward. Trying to scramble to her feet resulted in an uncoordinated tumble of limbs that didn't quite respond as well as she wanted them to, and she ended up rolling over in the snow and dragging herself by hands and knees at first, before finally managing to get herself upright. Further down the slope, there was a much larger protrusion of solid ice that would give her some shelter at least, she hoped. The penguin creatures were trying to freeze her solid as well, now, and the frustration of the situation would have made her eyes prickle if the freezing air wasn't keeping them painfully dry already.

The snow was thick, crunching with each deep footfall as she struggled to make her way down the slope as quickly as she could without losing control and tumbling head over heels. To the side, she could see the blue dragon, ready to try and exhale another wintry assault on her and she put a hand out towards it, half fending and half trying to direct something, anything, towards it... her muscles screamed from the charge that was straining within her, and she needed to release something, and soon, but the frozen numbness flooding her extremities stopped anything from flowing freely, and instead she just felt the pulse of charge circle inside her viciously without finding any course. She staggered as she tried to run, doubling over on herself from the recoil, but kept going.

Moving down the slope was treacherous, and would have been an awkward effort even if she hadn't been numb from the frost; as it was, Lyntael stumbled a second time, falling and rolling over twice when one of her feet didn't lift high enough to clear the depression if had left in the snow. She remained still on her side, coughing and gasping for a few seconds, before dragging herself up and scrambling the rest of the way towards the icy rock she was aiming for. Her eyes burned and stung, and she was beginning to see small sparks of electricity darting across her vision, even when she blinked. Something was wrong, far more wrong than normal, but she wasn't thinking clearly enough to process it. Her body strained to release again, outside of her control, but it only caused another painful recoil that drew a fresh gasp from her.

Finally, her back pressed against the icy rock and she paused long enough to take a few deeper breaths and turn her eyes up to the sky while she fought for calm. Her chest was heaving, out of breath from the battle of uncomfortable sensations hampering her. Some parts of her body felt too hot, other parts were too cold, and in between it was both numb and painful. The energy still wasn't able to flow. There wasn't enough feeling in her limbs to really work out why, though, and she just huddled instead, fighting off panic as much as any of the other factors troubling her. Rogan hadn't spoken up in the few seconds since the last assaults had struck her, simply watching her struggles in silence, but her eyes drifted down again to look at the penguin viruses that were much closer to her now. They'd just been playing before, and there wasn't anything wrong with that. She hadn't meant any harm, or wanted to interrupt them, but now... now they'd seen her, and started trying to hurt her. Why? She hadn't meant any harm! Watching them as she struggled to breath and calm herself, Lyntael was ready to drop to the snow again if they continued launching attacks in her direction, but the distant, naive part of her hoped they'd somehow see her for what she was; a girl with no business being in a place like this, clutching at herself from the cold, hiding and frightened. Her thoughts weren't pieced together enough to form proper words to speak to any of them, and she knew there was no real hope of them leaving her be, but she couldn't make her body do much else, besides flick her eyes between the three of them, between short, shuddering breaths. The frustration at the situation, and how it had all played out, and the way the viruses had acted, and the horrible feeling the Rogan's callous, uncaring approach may have been right, this time, all made her want to cry, but the frigid air was stopping the tears from forming.

Perceiving her cover as useless for the moment, Lyntael tumbled her way out from behind the mound of snow just as the Bluegon roared tremendously. It repeated its previous attack with the roar, causing the snow to split open with a powerful crackle of freezing energy. Her stumble allowed her to just barely skirt past it, but attempting to attack the dragon brought her nothing but more pain. Scrambling desperately down the slope, she made her way past the penguin viruses, which, cute as they were, still blasted their icy crystals in her direction. Fortunately, for all of her clumsiness, she managed to avoid every single one of the attacks with her advances, and ducked behind the sturdiest cover that the area had to offer. Stopping to catch her breath for the moment, she could feel her offensive processes finally giving way to discharge her pent-up energy once more.

The barrage of icy attacks all around her barely managed to draw a tight squeak from Lyntael as she huddled. The straining, swelling energy thrashed and recoiled under her skin, fighting to get out though any means and the all-obliterating static of the sensation dulled even the violent hiss and crack of the ice around her. Noting was stopping; not the pain of her charge, nor the viruses around her. The dragon continued to blast wave after of wave of frost at her hiding place while the penguins showed no sign of mercy or consideration either, now that they knew she was there. Lyntael herself could barely think, or keep her awareness in the present. The cold hardness behind her back sent extra jolts of fear through her that weren't tethered to anything present, but added to her mounting distress.

An especially violent pulse of her internal charge made the girl hunch over on herself, groaning, but suddenly the thick, fuzzy wall blocking the energy from escaping was gone, and it was flooding her limbs and making her strikers glow like bright beacons in the snow. Unthinking, the swell dragged her to her feet and she looked blearily around for some way to direct the over-bearing need to expend. A faltering step turned he r around the side of the stone, still using it to support herself, until she could see the dragon clearly.

Small gusts of wind curled around her body as she focused her eyes; they stung and watered, unseen sparks scattering from them onto her cheeks and shoulders, but the dragon virus, at least, she could see. The breeze whipped up, circling and she pushed off from the rock, staggering forward a step with her stance wide. It was probably going to open its mouth again any moment; the thought was distant and disconnected. The only thing present in her mind was the rush of electricity, scourging her muscles and making her hands shake as they rose. The charge flexed, rushing out and in again, dragging the beads of light glow from her strikers towards her chest, and then forcing her arms up and out as it flowed down to each wrist in a convergence that snapped the heels of her palms together and and released. The circling winds about her turned outward as the bolt formed, rushing forward in a gale that accompanied the crackling, arcing bolt of lighting that lanced out from her towards the virus. The torrent of light lit up the snow, brilliant and forceful beyond any of her past exertions, and as it spent itself the force of it arched her slight body and dragged her forward an extra step after it, before leaving her to collapse into the snow with a sob.

As she stumbled forward, mittens crunching in the snow and arms giving out a moment later, Lyntael gasped and sobbed, small strangled sounds of pain that couldn't articulate themselves into anything more. Her body rolled and rocked, unable to escape the voided sensation that the expenditure left, nor the scoured burning it caused. The hum at her core flooded outwards immediately, filling her as she writhed, replacing the emptiness but going further, and faster, raging back to capacity before she could even try to begin ordering her mind. There was only electricity and static, pain and a haze that drowned everything else. Too much, one wisp of thought muttered. It had been too much by far. Another fragment of awareness blinked to see scatterings of electrical sparks dancing across the snow through one eye. Her body pulsed without her thoughts at the helm, struggling vainly to balance the sheer weight of its own up-cycling responses.

Another fragment of thought said that Rogan was speaking to her, but the words didn't process. He was saying something... Something forceful, but there wasn't enough presence of mind for her to consciously put it together. One hand was clutching at the snow, mitten curling as the arm pulled; the sound of boots scraping against ice as her eyes drifted between the patterns of electrical sparks dropping to the broken white an scattering in every direction. The current washed through her, one instinct begging to push it all out, and release it again, quickly, before it destroyed her, while another fragment screamed that she couldn't; couldn't handle any more charge. Again more, a whisper that feared; she couldn't stop it now anyway. Couldn't hold it in even if she tried to. It was already too late, already gone too far.

Her eyes found focus, but she was staring at the frozen rock in front of her, and one half of her right mitten, pressed to it. There was a dampness in her leggings where some for the ice had begun to melt through, but it was barely a sensation worth feeling alongside the roar inside her. Misted breath fogged her vision every half second; her chest hurt as she panted for breath and the freezing air collided with burning lungs. Rogan was speaking again, but she couldn't process it.

She was crouched behind the rock, still on the same side as the dragon, but huddled low and curled up, knees bent in the snow and with her chest and face pressed to the frozen stone. Her eyes closed as she willed the situation away, but it remained. It was too much at once. She needed time, and a chance to get away from things attacking her. Time and a chance to rest were exactly what Rogan wanted to deny her; she knew that. She opened her eyes, wincing through the sting while she fought off the urge to expend again. She couldn't hold it for long, not as long as she needed to. there was no way she could calm her charge down faster than it needed to release now, and if she burned out here, with all these viruses around her... Lyntael panted a few more breaths, desperately trying to force herself into taking longer, more measured ones, and hold herself steady.

Suddenly finding her charge release unrestrained, Lyntael moved out of her cover to expend her pent-up electrical energy. Her stumble from behind the makeshift cover was prime bait for the Bluegon to continue its assault, unleashing its waves of icy hell towards her. Her damage-mitigating barrier barely held itself together with the last attack as she retaliated with her own strongest ability. Snow erupted in all directions as the lightning bolt punched through the dragon's skull, her aim just barely short of whooshing over its head. With its entire head subjected to several million volts of destruction, the virus keeled over backwards before disappearing into the snowy slopes.

Most of the remaining Penguin viruses were relatively unaffected by the event, sending their slow-moving giant snowflakes towards her, which skirted past her as per usual, due to their wildly unreliable loci. One of them, however, had witnessed the terrifying bolt that had struck down the strongest virus on the field, thanks to its higher vantage point on the battlefield. The bird squawked loudly as it changed its tactics -- instead of its previous slow attack, it rapidly formed a huge icicle that shot towards Lyntael at breakneck speed. Unfortunately for Lyntael, she was currently preoccupied with writhing about in pain in the snow, and the icicle stabbed into her flank as its freezing temperatures began to take over her senses once more. Amidst the drowning storm of electricity, Lyntael gasped for longer breaths and pressed herself down and closer against the rock. She couldn't see any of the penguins now, not from behind the stone, but one of them had caught her badly in the side at some point, when she'd been too blind to the pain, and now her spare hand drifted down to press at the spot on her side where a spreading patch of damp was growing from an increasingly hot bloom of pain. There was a small tear in the layers of her winter clothing, but the place where her fingers pressed in showed only ice shards and rapidly melted water; the opposed temperatures made it impossible to tell by feel alone if the spike had drawn blood, but the dampness looked clear, for now.

Actual thoughts towards the injury were spaced out and fragmented for Lyntael herself. Her eyes flicked over the wounded area, but passed on again as she instinctively curled up around it in her hiding place. Another convulsion wracked her, every muscle tensing at once and scraping a low, strained groan from her; the energy had to get out, but she couldn't even let go and give into it now, while the cold blocked it from escaping her body. Instead, the flow coursed and reflexed inside her, and the individual threads of thought that the girl tried to tie together were rapidly burned apart into static again and again. Rogan was still talking; she could hear his voice more clearly now, low and hard, but couldn't drag her mind together enough to piece together the words.

If she ran away, would he mind? The dragon had been destroyed. That was the important bit, wasn't it? They'd just been playing before. Now they were attacking. What was different. They'd seen her; was that really it? Why wouldn't they listen? Listen to what though; she hadn't said anything to them. Her lips were freezing, and her teeth ground tight together as she tried to grit through the overwhelming rush of electricity under her skin. Couldn't talk like this anyway. Individual snatches of ideas darted through one after another, then were washed away as another rough convulsion wracked her and left her gasping again. Her body trying to charge further, trying to release again, but couldn't. Her head throbbed as the pent up strain began to form a headache behind her eyes.

Her eyes darted in between the stressed shocks, watching for more of the viruses' strange attacks, but it was questionable whether her limbs would even allow her to react in time if any came her way while she cowered in place. Even if she couldn't see them, it wasn't going to stop. Part of her knew that. They wouldn't just get bored and go away, no matter what she hoped. That meant she couldn't stay hidden behind this rock until it was over. Run or fight were her only real options. With a gasp of effort she managed to press herself upright enough to lean with her back to the rock, though her arms still curled in tight against her chest, overwhelmed by the continuous stress and cycle of energy. For a moment, her broken threads of thought narrowed down on Rogan's voice and she began to focus on the words as something solid to cling to. It didn't matter what he was saying, exactly, as long as it was something to focus on that wasn't her own discomfort.

"...don't have any idea what processes are going on inside you. My brother made you far too complex for that, but if you have to go through all of the motions of fear and pain like that, then you can work through them and handle it like anyone else just the same. If you are really so real as all that, you can get past this, and deal with it... Breath deeply, watch your surroundings, and listen to me. I'll ask again, are you hearing this, Lyntael?" The voice sounded like he'd been continuing a steady stream of low, hard words for a while, just continuing until he got a reaction from her again. She hadn't heard most of it, but the awareness that he'd been talking remained. Her breathing hadn't slowed, however much she tried, and her throat felt raw. Her eyes burned, like there was a pressure behind them threatening to make her face explode, and the headache from each pulse of forestalled strain was getting worse. Blood pounded in her ears with her pulse.

"Yes..." It was more an awkward grunt in the back of her throat, but it was the best she could muster. unable to release, the pent up charge swelled and pressed wildly, but the rate she could feel it trying to grow beyond her ability to hold felt like it was slowing, very gradually, without any means of escape. "I... I'm here. Why does it hurt so much?" It was only because she was focused on his voice as hard as she was, but Lyntael heard a small sigh escape her operator's lips, over the channel, before he continued in the same cold tone.

"You'll have to ask Eric that. I'm just the one that has to deal with it. You're standing at least. that's good. Now finish this off, Lyntael. Regardless of what it seems like you are feeling, you are fine. Move." As always, the voice sounded like it was coming from just behind her shoulder, even though there was only freezing stone there, but Lyntael looked up to the sky overhead as she fought for breath, and braced herself against another convulsion of energy that had nowhere to go.

"I can't. Rogan, I can't do anything. Please. Please let me stop, sir."
"The effect will pass in a moment. Then you will finish the remaining hostiles."
"Can't I just run, sir? I need to rest. Please!"
"No. Finish the fight, Lyntael. Then you will have all the time until you find more targets to rest." she started to protest again, but another wave of restrained force cut her off with a groan and she put both hands to her head in an effort to still the growing headache it was giving her. Rogan cut over her efforts before she could form words again.

"This is far less of a problem than you are making it out to be. You have seen and dealt with more in the past. The effect will fade in a moment, and then you will act. That is all, Lyntael." Still gritting her teeth, Lyntael couldn't manage an answer; forming coherent strings of words with her mind clouded over by raging static was hard enough, but she managed a worn nod while she did her best to watch for a moment of relative safety to move.

With her discharging abilities sealed for the moment due to the encroaching cold, Lyntael suffered through the pain for the sake of her inflexible operator, and focused the remaining shards of her consciousness to avoid the attacks coming her way. By this point, with the Bluegon off the field, she only had to deal with the Penguin viruses, which had seen the effects of their attacks and opted to band their efforts together to whittle her down, bit by bit. This time, however, despite her best efforts, the snow hampered Lyntael's movements enough that she was surrounded by two of the snowflakes and accidentally evaded into the path of the third. Fortunately, the space behind the rock was temporarily cleared of the snow, and the giant snowflake's freezing effects did not manifest completely, allotting her just enough time to recover her offensive faculties.

Body burning on the brink of overload, Lyntael quavered at the edge of shorting out while more assaults from the remaining viruses curled about her poor excuse for a hiding place and tore rakes of deep cold through her. The conflict of sensations remained as numbing and disorienting as ever, but somewhere amidst the static in her mind, she knew that it wasn't going to stop and go away if she stayed where she was, and she'd already promised Rogan that she'd try again. The affirmative had only been a second before, but it felt like minutes to her scattered perceptions.

An uneven breath led movement as the small girl pushed herself away from the rock and tried to find her own balance properly. Couldn't take the time to calm down, couldn't take any more expenditures, couldn't stay still or run away. A part of her knew she had to break cover and go out there between them, climbing the slope again back towards the viruses attacking her, while another part of her mind struggled to believe she was going to try it. She fought to take a steadying breath and focus on balance.

The familiar pulse from her core was a steady moment of reassurance amongst her other worries; the more even, stable sensation of her barrier, drawing power and stabilising in a subtle way, rather than the wild excess of her ever aggressive charging. They were living entities, just like her, and they weren't being targeted as pests, tat she knew, but at the same time... the trio had attacked her on sight, and she had no doubt they'd keep going until she couldn't stand any more, if she didn't fight back or run. She swallowed, shook her head to try and clear her pounding headache, then moved out and began to run.

The slope, and the thick snow hindered her already difficult strides, but each thick crunch of snow under her boots came quicker than the last as Lyntael threw more of herself into the run with each step. Ahead, she could see through the blur of static-induced tears clearly enough to mark each of the three penguins. If she kept moving, at least, they'd have a harder time, maybe. If she could get back above them, it might make staying away from their attacks easier, too. That meant getting past, though, and they were all blocking the way to some extent.

She could barely feel her limbs moving as she raced by the nearest one, darting past it on the inside, between it and the other one nearby, as quickly as she could while sparks fell continuously from her eyes in a vain effort to vent some of her excess. One foot landed on a hard lump in the snow and she kicked off it, spinning her other foot back around to strike out at the virus as she went past. The flux of current washed in from her extremities then out again in a flare of electrical light, followed by a secondary fall of energy that scattered in every direction. Small attempts to rebalance, even at this late stage, kept her on the edge of losing consciousness completely, but there was no room to pause even as the edges of her already blurred vision began to fade to static oblivion. She landed, still beside the other virus, and turned the rest of the momentum to rake out with her left hand. Where normally she might have punched, there was little to no thought behind the motion this time, and operating purely on reactions, Lytnael's mittened hand came around wide open, fingers extended, while several slim arcs of electricity burst out from her wrist striker in thin, short claw-like lances.

The secondary expenditure drew off most of her remaining built up charge, and she had to steady her balance for a moment, staggering only a couple of more steps forward before catching herself in place. The drain had only lasted the time it took to strike, a bare echo on the flow of energy releasing, before the empty swell had replaced it, filling her up to a crackling, sparking extreme again. Underneath her many layers of warm clothing, Lyntael's skin was awash with electrical patterns shining through as they raged. Outside, lines of electricity arced and danced between the metallic striker plates that the outfit had built in, and raced back and forth between the metal filaments than help conduct the charge. The pain in her eyes from the static overflow made them squeeze shut again and she put both of her hands palm first up to each eye, as though that might somehow help. The sparks continued to fall from either side of her palms while she wavered, struggling for balance before she could keep moving. Hunched slightly, panting in the middle of the field, she looked up again after a moment, fighting to regain her bearings and identify a target, any target, that still threatened.

With pain assaulting Lyntael from all sides, all she was able to do was move forward, her power restored in the brief opportunity that had presented itself to her. With the dim glow of her barrier protection enveloping her, she dashed forward and delivered consecutive blows to the two Penguins that she passed by. While she managed to land the blows successfully in quick succession, her proximity with them also allowed them to shoot their icicle shards towards her shoulders. The shards shattered against her electrical protection, but also triggered her innate charge release, causing the sparks around her to explosively spread in all directions. That was all that was needed to defeat the last Pengi just before her eyes, which only managed to shoot its icicle at her head before it expired. Fortunately, her last stumble caused the shard to barely skirt above her head, sealing her victory over the viruses.

Of course, she still had to deal with the slow drag of gravity pulling her downhill, complicated further by the negative-degree crawl of frost that was slowly taking over her faculties once again.

In the still moment as Lyntael looked about, blinking back the sparks as she tired to see what remained around her, the lance of ice that struck into her shoulder from behind made her stumble briefly, drained of its harm by her barrier but wet and sharp and cold nonetheless. The recoil came back quickly, racing up alongside the all-too rapid rebuild of her charge and blasting outwards, dragging at her core as it drained her charge as quickly as it could grow and still demanding more. Her back arched and her limbs reached out, shock-tense and rigid as a second wave burst away from her, and a third right after it. A moment after, a sharp static crack cut through the air and the girl went limp, tumbling into the snow in a boneless rag-doll that left her rolling back down the slope without control.

For Lyntael herself, there was no sensation or awareness beyond the burning few seconds o her body overloading, the feeling like she was about to be charred from existence, then the dull, hollow crack of her safety, followed by nothing at all. Somewhere in there she'd been screaming, in the last couple of moments, but that knowledge, along with everything else, was consumed by the void. On the edges of the silence, scuffling sensations buffeted at something, but it was far distant and detached. Eventually they stopped, replaced by a gradually creeping cold that edged inwards towards the flicker of her consciousness.

Her body came to a half as the ground levelled out at the bottom of the slope, covered in ice and snow and half buried in it. She was on her side and only one half of her face showed above the snow line. She stirred and shifted, curling in on herself for a moment, then rolling uneasily to get the rest of her exposed skin out of direct contact with the snow. Gradually, awareness began to seep back, but the first things that did were the poor combination of lingering aches, a freezing sensation against her back, the fuzzy grogginess and the dull, dead feeling in her chest of her inner charge being locked out. Memory and panic set in next, automatically. Lyntael shrieked, trying to scramble up and away on limbs that weren't yet ready to work properly. She managed to half rise, and gain a step or two before collapsing in the snow again, shouting inarticulate fears and curling up on herself. It took a few more seconds before the rest of her senses helped pull her back to the present, and the snow, and her warm, albeit damp clothing, and she calmed down as her strength returned.

At some point, Rogan had been calling to her, she knew that dimly, but he'd stopped and seemed to be waiting now. Slowly, Lyntael picked herself up, gingerly brushing the snow from her body and hugging herself while she looked around. Her breath was still misting the frigid air, but not as much as it had been; she felt chilled to the bone, now, and a lingering dampness was seeping into the fabric of her cloths that stymied any lingering warmth they held. A tentative shiver passed through her as she gathered herself and tried to get warm.

"Lyntael. You are recovered?" Rogan's voice was... neutral, but carefully so. She nodded by habit, then shook her head a moment later.
"Ah... no, sir... I'm still, um... I can't feel anything."
"I've got a warning here. This has happened before Lyntael. Explain." He wasn't impatient, exactly, but the tension in his voice reminded Lyntael how much Rogan disliked not knowing all the variables in his plans. Not concern for her, so much as irritation at how it affected him. She began to trudge slowly back up the hill, looking about as she did and still with her arms wrapped tightly around herself. It was better to walk than to stand still, at least. Her steps were unsteady and stringing her thoughts together was harder than it should have been. A clearly as she tried to speak, the words still came out in away that was spaced and drawn. Not quite slurring, but faltering and broken.

"I've told you before." One foot, then the next, keep moving until she got steadier... "The pain builds up... it hurts, and it burns." Long breaths, deep breaths, even if the frozen air hurts. "Can't stop it, or control it. Then... that happens, when it's too much." she shook her head, wincing and blinking, then raised one hand to scrub at her face. "Just happens. It's not me. Think if it didn't, the charge would destroy my mind." The viruses were all gone, an unconsciously she moved around, recovering the fragments from the snow, like Rogan had instructed her to do in the past. "But, after... there's just nothing. All gone. Empty. I'm not... me. I'm not... there. It's just, nothing. Until it comes back." There was silence from Rogan's end for a few moments while she crested the top of the slope and looked around with largely unfocused eyes. White in every direction. When he spoke, it was with slow, careful words, but it wasn't long before she put her hands to her ears anyway.

"That was what happened in SciLab? You couldn't move, or—"
"Stop! Please, stop!!" Without realising it, Lyntael had crouched down as well as covering her ears and earmuffs with her mittens, all to no avail as Rogan's words recalled altogether too vivid memories. to his credit, though, the girl's desperate cries silenced him again. She knew that Rogan was uncomfortable about what had happened, even if he didn't admit to it, but she still wasn't sure if she'd ever be able to discuss it without the same crippling terror rising in her chest again. Her breathing had returned to short, sharp pants, and a moment later she felt a surge of energy as her charge released and suffused her limbs with the warm, background hum that was her natural resting energy.

"Interesting." Despite everything, Lyntael still found herself caring deeply for Rogan and feeling a certain amount of devotion towards him... but in that moment she wanted to scream and cry and strike him, all at once. the calculation in his voice, when he knew he was dealing with something so tender and sensitive to her made her hands clench into fists that her thick mittens couldn't quite manage. He didn't seem to notice. "Regardless, Lyntael, our goals here today have not changed, and there is still some time left before I need to head out, so, keep moving. Find your next bounty target." she stood, shoulders heaving as she sniffed and blamed the cold air again, grit her teeth, and nodded once, then began to move along the line of the ridge, watching her surroundings.

((Ready for Battle 4))

Moving through the ridge at the bottom of the mountainside carefully, Lyntael made her way through the snowscape, her cold-resistant clothing now deprived of its primary quality. Even so, she had done rather well in spite of her weakness, especially in the harsh conditions of Sharo's network. Unfortunately, her surroundings had more in store for her, as the blustery winds that had been reasonably manageable up until now turned into a dangerous gale, the snowfall reducing visibility to near nil and preventing her from making any reasonable amount of progress forward.

Unfortunately, as she would begin to seek shelter, the rapidly lowered temperatures caused her beaten body to make an errant step, and she tripped and stumbled down a rather steep slope. Miraculously, she didn't suffer any major injuries from the stumbles, as they put her at the mouth of a cave, carved out into the side of the mountain range she had been traveling along earlier. The blizzard was already intensifying even further outside, and she had no choice but to seek shelter inside of it if she wanted to do something about Rogan's unreasonable request to seek more enemies.

The cave's entrance was rather short, as it opened up into a vast cavernous space, covered almost completely in ice. In the center of the frozen cavern, a raised stone platform housed a Bluegon, guarded by a trio of red shelled viruses. Behind the Bluegon, a green crystal twinkled teasingly as it spun in place. As the shelled viruses saw Lyntael approach, their vulnerable insides were protected by their hard outer shells that clamped down immediately, alerting the Bluegon to her presence. The dragon roared mightily as the cavern shook, and two icy pillars lit up with an odd fire that did not seem to melt the pillars they were on.

What was more, a duo of Ashuraid viruses were approaching from further towards her sides--6 foot tall helmeted metal statues that rolled around on a 1-ton steel ball, wielding a huge pair of tripled free-floating metal arms. If she turned to try and leave, a stray Sparky sphere would greet her with a set of strange beeps. Strangely enough, however, it didn't seem all that keen on fighting her as it floated about leisurely, almost as if it was a small creature that had innocently wandered into a new playground.

The Ashuraid are a new strain of 6 foot tall semi-humanoid viruses with bodies made of durable metal alloys. Ashuraid viruses lack legs, and instead roll around on a 1 ton solid steel ball 1-foot in diameter that rests in a cupola. Rising from the top of the cupola is an alloy pillar that supports their smooth and curving metal bodies. The key defining feature of Ashuraid viruses are their half dozen free-floating arm segments constructed of an indestructible alloy. Three of these arms feature metallic rights hands, and the other three feature metallic left hands, thus they are differentiated. In combat, the virus will ball these hands up into fists, and launch volleys of rocket punches at their foes. The virus' helmeted head rests upon a short metallic rod-like neck with their faces hidden behind a metallic faceplate. The exception being their mouths, which are generally curved downwards in a permanent frown while in the presence of Navigators. It is speculated that Ashuraid are a hacked derivative of the Bladia viruses spliced together with fragments of other viruses and a healthy dose of battlechip program data. This would account for their size, strength, and malicious nature. Where and how this was possibly accomplished is unknown. Ashuraid viruses move and dodge at better than average speeds, although they rarely choose to dodge at all. Ashuraid viruses are ranged attackers, and prefer to hold the range open against their enemies as melee range attacks with their Impacting abilities generally render Counters useless. Ashuraids attack by launching their six free-floating indestructible alloy arms at one or more enemies in volleys of 3 rocket punches. It takes 3 arms to execute a MeteorKnucke attack, 3 to execute a Counter attack, and all 6 to execute their GiantHook attack. It takes roughly an action of cooldowm time after executing a long distance attack for the arms used in the attack to return to the Ashuraid's side. During this time, they may not execute a Counter Attack if they do not have enough arms available. Ergo if all 6 arms are either being used in an attack, or in cool-down following an attack or counter attack, the Ashuraid cannot use a Counter. The rest of their attacks do not require their arms to return to their side. The return feature is automatic, and does not require actions to perform. Ashuraid can move while attacking or defending, and are allowed to counter while dodging if enough arms are available. Setting a counter requires an action while executing one does not. Ashuraid are extremely heavy viruses that will sink like the lead weights they are in liquid, and they know it. They will avoid liquid terrain entirely, if possible, and will never appear near these types of naturally occurring terrain for this reason. Only an Ashuraid's body is damageable. Striking an Ashuraid's floating arms will not damage the virus or the arms themselves, no matter what you hit them with. The Ashuraids will not intentionally defend themselves with their arms outside of their Counter ability, which is nullified by Impact. Do not abuse this.

-- Battle 4 Ready? Start!! --
Anyone looking from far off might see it as something of a pathetic sight; a tiny figure trudging along a snowy ridge, while the blowing blizzard grew and washed out the speck in a blanket of white. Hugging herself as she moved her feet, Lyntael winced against the wind that carried icy sleet and fresh snow with it, then focused and split the air currents to part around her and create something of a still pocket as she moved. Breath fogged regardless, and the sudden bend in the wind caused the snow and ice to grow thickest across the front of her vision, where it clustered. It was just as she realised the effect was stopping her from really seeing where she was going, that her next step found a much lower purchase, plunging through the snow without hitting rock, far enough for the girl to lose balance with a small shriek and go tumbling down the slope again.

Even the sound of her cry was muffled into dull, muted quiet by the wind and the giving thud of her body in the deep snow; the world spiralled and only stopped its mad spinning when she wound up at the bottom of the slope again, half on her side and hurriedly trying to push up from the damp before it soaked in any further. The bone chilling damp was already settled in, somewhat, and even as she stood and sought to brush herself down, her hands shook. A small part of her was beginning to wonder exactly how freezing exposure was meant to make her less afraid, but she also knew that the truth was probably just that it was another thing that Rogan himself had never thought of; programs didn't get cold, she was sure he'd tell her. There was a bitter twist to the thought, and as she looked around, her eyes found the looming cave mouth she'd fetch up near, and the tempting respite from the ever-increasing snow storm it presented. Her resolve faltered, and the girl moved quickly towards it, shielding her face from the gale and pushing inside as swiftly as she could.

Short, sharp breaths accompanied the shivering as Lyntael rubbed at herself and felt the wind die off, and the ever-present snow stay outside. The floor was still frozen, but the simple cessation of the blizzard itself was enough for now. She paused to catch her breath, before the not-so-welcoming cave let her know that she wasn't safe or alone by any stretch of imagination. The sudden torchlight snapped her face upwards to see, and the roar that followed it made her flinch and cower back a step. Her heart jolted and sparks cracked in her hair while tiny teeth grit against each other in a mixture of despair and desperation. More sounds out of the dark made her look around, head and eyes darting while her inner charge began to hum with anticipation in response to the fresh threads of fear and danger. In backing off a step, she managed to look left and right, seeing the other two mechanical constructs and her eyes went wide at the machines' size. Her breathing hadn't slowed, but now her heart was matching it. Was five minutes too much to ask? A quiet cave, just for a few minutes to wait out a storm?

"Rogan..." Her voice shook, though it was hard to tell if it was the shock and nerves, or simply the fact that most of her form was shivering and chilled by now. Unconsciously, her right foot had slipped back into a combat stance, and her weight had moved from the flat of her feet, to just the toes of her boots. Her hands had lifted as well, defensive and still shaking while she turned around once, seeing that even her exit back out to the storm was obscured. "There are machines here... Is... Is this somewhere I shouldn't be...?"

"Probably..." his voice came back, quiet and calm. The bitter line of thoughts in her head imagined that he was still warm and comfortable in his cheap hotel room; that he'd just had a hot shower a little while ago, and probably food too, even if it was something cheap and bad for him. "There are many strange secrets to be found, hidden away in Sharo, after all..." He sounded... strangely intrigued, and it made her grit her teeth harder, fighting off the urge to shout, or cry. As the trailing lines of electricity gathered more around her wrists and ankles, she swallowed, then closed her eyes briefly, stilling her breath. The stable pulse of energy followed, swelling out from her core and balancing itself as it passed her strikers, before fading away once it reached its full extension.

A moment later, a sound force her eyes open with a start, and her breath caught as one of the hostile viruses moved again. Before she'd really thought about it, Lyntael had crouched slightly, then sprang, a small circling spiral of wind drawing in around her as she leapt upwards to the ceiling that her eyes had flicked across moments before. The array of long stalactites up there had caught her eye, as maybe being somewhere that the heavy-looking, many-armed mechs might not be able to reach her, and before she really knew it, the girl was gripping onto one of the icy spines directly above her, an arm curled around the top and one set of toes braced against its mid section while one hand and foot remained free. Her eyes raced over the battle field, moving ahead of her properly conscious thoughts. Charge as building inside her in anticipation, even as she felt the trails of it coursing across the outer layers of her skin. She shook her head, clearing it and trying to focus. Control; don't do too much; pace herself. Stay safe, first and foremost, that was what she had to do. Try to stay calm, and keep in control.

From up above, she noticed the crystal, just a little beyond the dragon virus that seemed to have situated itself in the middle of the strange set-up, and a small thought butted its way forward. Between the breath weapons of the dragon creature, whatever the heavy metal machines might do, and her own lack of control, the crystal was was too close to where any kind of conflict was likely to happen. A moment of hesitation as she decided, before a tight wince crossed her cold-reddened expression and kicked off the spike she was clinging to. A small pulse of static burst out from her body as she leapt free, skittering amongst the icicles, but Lyntael was leaping in a quick series of grabs and springs, crossing the length of the ceiling as quickly as she could, before dropping down to land directly in front of the dragon virus. One mittened hand pressed to the ground as she dropped into a low crouch, a leg extended to help absorb the rest of her drop and steady her balance while her landing leg bent all the way then uncoiled again immediately into a forward spring. The leap took her across the gap that the Bluegon rose from, and her body twisted about, the extended leg sweeping across in a falling crescent as she passed it. In the moment as her form moved, and the kick helped to shift her into the right landing position, Lyntael felt the familiar energy flow, the build in each of her strikers flooding into her core, combining, then venting outwards through her left ankle in a flare of bright light that briefly drowned out the torches lighting the cave.

She landed behind the raised alter, in front of the green crystal with her back to it, taking a secondary step back before she managed to stop her momentum. Her back brushed the crystal where it floated and she reached a hand back quickly to press one mitten to a panel and access it, attempting to draw the data inside into tight data string that she could keep safe on her person until the conflict was over, while her eyes moved around to try and keep everything that threatened her in sight. The expenditure of charge had only stolen her breath briefly, and though she could feel the internal, dull ache of hollowness it left behind, and the beginnings of it cycling back, the sensation was mostly providing her with the warmth she sorely missed, for now.

Finding herself in a tight spot, Lyntael opted for the higher vantage point, launching herself up into the air. The Ashuraid that she had been dreading seemed to have seen this coming, and stopped in their tracks as their heads turned up at her. The two metallic viruses reared up half of their fist clusters before launching a volley of rocket-propelled fists towards her. A total of six metal fist-bullets came flying towards her, though only three were repelled by her barrier; the rest crashed harmlessly into the ceiling. The Sparky seemed to have a different opinion on the situation and approached her directly, though Lyntael was already kicking off back towards the ground. They missed each other by a hair, and she could hear it beeping intermittently as it appeared to find one of the stalactites highly attractive, proceeding to orbit it slowly afterwards.

The Bluegon didn't seem to be too distracted, however, as it responded to her divebombing attack with a powerful breath attack. Her electrical ward deflected the beast's icy roar as she made a sweeping kick to delete the Bluegon in one attack. Turning her back towards the data crystal, she surreptitiously accessed it, allowing it to decrypt before she surveyed the remaining viruses in front of her. The Shellgeeks were beginning to emerge from their shells, while the Ashuraids, still rooted in the spots where she had left them, readied their remaining fists in preparation to pursue their attack. Behind her, she could hear the chip's decryption complete, though from the lack of hostility, it was at least not a Mimic in disguise, but she would have to check its contents later.

Moving as quickly as she could, and darting from high vantage to low, Lyntael still found herself not quite quick enough to avoid another scathing frost breath from the dragon virus. It was only barely that she managed to stick her landing properly, after the icy blast washed over her, and it took her an extra few moments to get herself moving again after she accessed the crystal. The two mechanical constructs had assaulted her as she moved; the awareness of their attacks caught up to her a moment later, and the dull, numb feeling to the heavy fists that had struck her, pulsed. The cold shielded her from any actual pain, just as much as her barrier had prevented them doing long-term harm, but the places where she'd been hit still throbbed in response. For the size, she realised, they didn't seem to be as powerful as she'd feared, but there wasn't really that much time to think about it. Ahead of her now, the clamshell housings of the shell viruses were opening up and she darted forward, across the raised altar to skid back to ground and duck down, making herself as difficult a close-range target for the trio as she could.

In amongst the opening shells, energy laced through her skin and filtered out along the filaments of her winter clothes, coating her in an erratic dance of small static lines, but even as a residual wave spread out from her, Lyntael grit her teeth and fought to hold the rest in for now. Getting carried away, and losing control, was what got her hurt. No big expends unless she had to, that was what she needed to do her. Light, why was the damp seeping through her cloths so utterly frigid? she couldn't even feel her toes, now, or her fingertips properly.

She also couldn't stay here, and presenting a low profile target against the viruses that wanted to shoot her was all well and good, but they weren't going to stop trying and she wasn't going to get to rest by staying still. With the chilled numbness dogging most of her body, Lyntael was more keenly aware than ever of the rapid thud of her heart, pulsing along with the fluctuations of her charge. The fear was still there; of being hurt, and of the pain that trying to fight brought, but the girl realised to her chagrin that, true to Rogan's insistence, she was gradually growing more able to function in spite of it; pain of this nature was becoming horribly 'normal' to her, and it still didn't measure up to other fears and traumas she'd had to suffer before.

She pushed herself up, trying to keep steady on the ice, and trying as hard as she could to keep her body back from expending more of its rebuilding energy in uncontrolled waves. The stand became a quick roll past the central shell virus, one elbow striking out towards its exposed innards as she passed, but her focus was on the nearer of the two mechanical viruses and she resisted the urgings of her body to let the power surge outwards. Hold off, keep it together, and do what she had to, when it mattered. The girl repeated the mantra in her mind as she moved towards it, weaving as much as she could on the ice. After launching some of its arms, the appendages seemed to be taking a few extra moments to recover; she could see that. If she could just knock the other set aside, it might let her get a clear shot at putting it out of commission. It was a machine after all, or at least it was as far as she could tell. One good shock might be enough to shut if down if she was lucky. She chased up close to the rolling monstrosity, and in a quick shuffle and feint, kicked off her left leg to leap and swing her right about, aiming to strike whatever were still situated of its detachable arms and throw them away to the side. A small burst of wind followed the kick, lending it pushing power as she batted at the limbs, gritting her teeth against the need to expend and holding it in. When she landed, Lyntael focused on the core of the construct, reading herself to actually blast it, hopefully without any more of its all-too-numerous fists getting in the way.

Keeping herself mobile, Lyntael found herself taking the Shellgeeks head-on, surrounded by a wave of unstable electrical charge. Her enemies were quick to launch their attacks, with the Shellgeeks launching a barrage of needles from all sides. While she was able to avoid an impressive three out of five in total, the two worked in tandem to first destroy her barrier and stab into one of her arms. (-10) Unfortunately for the mollusk-type viruses, this started a chain reaction where the unstable charge surrounding her unleashed its fury in a wide area about her. However, somehow, due to her unstable footing on the ice, the involuntary discharge barely passed by one of the Shellgeeks, which remained completely unharmed.

Her body was now getting more used to the freezing temperatures, though whether that was her body adapting or simply an unconscious act of final desperation remained to be seen. Striking out with one of her elbows, she managed to destroy the one closest to her, deleting it easily. Then, her attention shifted to the metallic giants, as she approached gallantly with one of her rising kicks towards the Ashuraid's raised array of fists. The loud clang of her foot against the virus's metal exterior proved her attack had connected, but all she had done was knock away one of the fists it had raised up, allowing the remaining two to perform a rapid countering jab. Fortunately, only one connected (-5) with surprisingly little force, and the other sailed over her head. Meanwhile, the other Ashuraid had retrieved the fists it had previously used, and was standing in place, presumably in anticipation of Lyntael's attack that had gone to its identical comrade instead.

Back near the altar, her instinctual discharge had severely damaged the lit pillars, to the point of almost breaking apart. The Shellgeek saw the fate that its comrades had undergone, and opted to reside in its shell for the moment. Finally, a cracked stalactite finally gave way, and fell down to the ground, disappearing into the blackness that had been occupied by the Bluegon shortly prior. The Sparky satellite that had been orbiting it fell down to the floor with it. Freed of its distraction, it began to hover about the center area aimlessly.

AshuraidAshuraid (Ashuraid)

No matter how she moved, it seemed like she just couldn't keep away from everything at once, and as the barrage of spears crossed over her position, and Lyntael did her best to twist away, the scoring pain from the sharp edges that made it through was accompanied by the upsetting sound of slicing fabric. Amidst the freezing chill, she felt the sense of one spear slicing metallic filaments, thick fabric, and biting across the skin under her upper arm, long before the line of pain caught up with it. Her breath caught behind grit teeth, but the volley of connecting impacts was more than enough to shake her grip loose and allow her body to react in the way it demanded. She'd already been trying to move forward, and the bursting wave of recoil drove her down to her hands an knees as it escaped. The moment of energy flow was a brief flash of euphoric release from tension, before the raging current force a low groan from between her teeth. Even as it faded away, and the charge began to rebuild, filling her, Lyntael kept moving, driving forward despite shaking limbs and unsteady boots on the slick ice.

She could feel fresh pockets of cold and air movement about her body, but there wasn't time to think about it in between her efforts to stop the two large machines before they could do anything more. They had too many arms for her to deal with, and even knocking them away only seemed to delay them for a moment. Worse, it didn't seem like she was having any effect on them. The kick had connected, she knew that, but there was no sign she'd even made a dent. there had been another sound of ripping and tearing fabric as she'd kicked at it, and another again when it had struck back, punching her back down to the ground.

As she hit the ground, her cheek pressed against the freezing ice, and she could feel it against one thigh, where her leggings had ripped. For a moment, the combinations of sensations hit her, forcing everything else to stillness, and she struggled to shake her head; not there, not then. But the will cracked and crumbled as her mind was already tumbling back, feelings of ineffectiveness summoning His words to her ears, and His face to her memory, leering. Mumbling, the girl tried to push away from it, but as she rolled over, another icy shock against her back just confirmed where she was, laid out on that cold, hard table, her clothes in tatters, her body hurt and bleeding, blood mingling with frigid water all around her. There wasn't anything she could do to fight Him off, it was a certainty that weighed like lead and kept her body from moving. Her eyes were closed, resisting the truth as she tried to struggle, writhing and lashing out with her hands even as she tried in vain to cover herself from the eyes she could feel staring at her. The back of her hand hit something hard, probably the edge of the lab table, and electricity flowed through her, wasting itself.

"Away... stay away! Don't touch me, please, don't touch me!!" The last became a shrill scream that made her body pulse with static again and she scrabbled at the ground, trying quickly to right herself in some fashion. When her eyes opened, she saw mostly a blur of white and blue, but the fuzzy shape blotching her vision, clouded through sudden panicked tears, was more than enough for her mind to turn into the figure she dreaded. He was right above her, looming down, ready to do all the vile things he whispered while she couldn't stop Him.

"Get away... Don't, just, get away!" Amidst the desperation, she thrust both of her hands up against his chest, and felt a surge of channelled energy pass through her as her fingers pressed flat against Him. The charge made her back arch and her eyes sting again, but she shoved as hard as she could. Even then, she was useless against Him; the figure didn't budge, even as a gale of wind crashed upwards around her, trying to throw Him back from her, her tormentor wasn't budged by it. She managed to roll back over, sniffling and shuddering as she scrambled away, hands and feet slipping unevenly. There were shapes in the ice around her, and tall pillars, but all Lyntael herself was seeing were the metallic lab tables in that room that was etched all too clearly on her memory.

She managed to pull herself up against one of the benches, panting in fast, shallow breaths as she dragged her knees to her chest and wrapped her arms about. The equipment was freezing against her back, and she rocked slightly with the rhythms of her breath. There was a voice in her ear, but it sounded distant and muffled, small against the pounding pressure of her heart beating and the pulse of blood rushing in her ears. Small crackles of sparks danced on her skin and fell from her eyes alongside the aching sensation of hot tears. She couldn't fight that monster. She couldn't. She just had to hide, until He went away. Just stay hidden, and silent. She clenched her teeth against the sobs that tried to creep up, and closed her eyes tightly again.

With the Ashuraid's enormous body closing in on her, and her circumstances suddenly turning for the worse, Lyntael's mind began to see things that weren't in front of her, and her fear turned into a blind panic. Scrambling about, she lashed out with her electrified strike, but the combination of the icy ground beneath her and her panicked state caused the attack to miss entirely, while the Ashuraid itself had already put up its guard against her attack with three of its arms. Her errant discharge afterwards was repelled by it, however, and it struck back with two of its fists into Lyntael's gut and face. (5x2) Despite this, she continued to struggle, and continued by letting out a powerful discharge with both of her hands.

This time, it was more effective, as it flowed into the ground and amplified itself, dealing a significant amount of damage to her metallic enemy. Its metal exterior cracked with the attack as it was pushed away, while Lyntael tried to scramble away into safety. Her body felt slightly sluggish from her electrical release from a little while ago, but she still managed to make her way to the pillar, which she mistook as a bench from her memories. Along the way, a trio of rocket punches sailed overhead, though she managed to avoid all of them. However, as she hid behind the pillar, she came into contact with the Sparky, which collided into her quite painfully (-40x2Ice) before destroying the pillar that she was about to hide behind. As it shattered, it left behind its base structure--a panel of destroyed circuitry. With her intended hiding place destroyed, Lyntael found herself on this paneling, finding that it didn't seem to hurt her at all. Rather, the electricity seemed to feed into her systems, patching up her wounds, though what little it did wasn't nearly enough to heal her satisfactorily. (+10)

In addition, a pneumatic hissing sound would be heard nearby as well--the Shellgeek had come out of its shell once again, and its eyes were definitely directed her way, along with both of the Ashuraids' helmeted faces. Nearby, the Sparky satellite hovered about aimlessly once more, though from its previous behavior, there was no reason to believe it wouldn't hurtle itself towards her once again after this.

ShellgeekShellgeek (ShellGeek)

Shellgeeks alternate actions between attacking and guarding. These are the only actions Shellgeeks may perform, and the first action of every battle is always guarding. Shellgeeks will not break from this pattern unless forced to by status effects. The secondary attack of Shellgeeks can be used to grant an ally of this virus a free movement, or even to knock an ally out of the path of an oncoming attack.

AshuraidAshuraid (Ashuraid)

Area: Sharo, NAXA

HP: 100
Primary Attack Damage/Effect: 5 Null + Impact + Break x 3 Fists
Primary Attack Accuracy: B
Primary Attack Description: Launches three rocket fists at distant opponents. Each fist may target individually, meaning multi-hit and/or multi-target both work up to a max of 3 punches.
Secondary Attack Damage/Effect: Counter vs Damage: 5 Null + Impact + Break x 2 Hits
Secondary Attack Accuracy: S (Block) / B (Counter)
Secondary Attack Description: Uses a trio of fists to block a non-Impact attack while executing a double punch counterstrike. Only two Counters may be active at any given time, and the virus must be physically able to execute a counter in order to use one. Counters work at any range. An action is required to set this effect, but no actions are required to execute the Counter when triggered, as it is automatic. Impact attacks nullify this Counter ability.
Tertiary Attack Damage/Effect: 5 Null + Impact + Break + LifeSword Range x 2 Attacks
Tertiary Attack Accuracy: B
Tertiary Attack Description: Sweeps the field with a salvo of flying fists from the left, and then the right. Does not damage friendlies, and may be executed at any range. The virus cannot use Counters while executing this attack.
Element: Null
Possible Rewards (Per Virus): MeteorKnuckle1, Counter1, Zenny
Special: SuperArmor: Immunity to Knockback, Microburst, Pull, Gravity, and similar effects.
Special: HardCase: Damage is reduced by half until hit with a Break attack, at which time this effect is nullified and they take standard damage. Break does not deal extra damage.
