A Rocky Start?

"But why won't you let me do it? Come on, just a little biiiiit," whined Carbide, pulling lightly on Terra's shorts. Terra simply walked forward, trying to ignore the constant drone of her voice. Finally, she noticed after a while that the ground's wavelengths were changing around her feet, and that Carbide's voice and feet had been silent for a while. Turning around, she saw Carbide crouched over much further behind her, staring at some shiny Holy paneling.

Carbide had been oohing at the colorful patterns of the paneling for quite some time when Terra got back to her. "So shiiiiny," said Carbide, mesmerized by the fine shine. Terra crouched near her Support Program, watching Carbide trace out circles in the ever-changing rainbow of colors. For a few minutes, Terra simply watched with a serene look on her face as Carbide amused herself with the colors.

Scarlet managed to watch it for a full ten seconds before snoring on the pillow she was lying on. It took Carbide a while to snap out of her shine-induced trance, after which she looked up at Terra. "Uh, wait, were we doing something?" asked Carbide, a slow, confused look on her face. Terra stood back up, and checked the location data Scarlet had provided her with.

It seemed that the place where they were supposed to pick up the shipment was only a short distance away, and they would probably meet only one group of viruses along the way, looking at the frequency at which they had seen them so far. "... Yes, we're about to arrive there. Let's go," said Terra, walking off. Carbide stared at Terra's back for a little bit, trying to process what her Navigator was talking about. "...Huh? What? No-- Wait, wait up!" said Carbide, running off after her.

The running only lasted for a short while, as-- "Oof!" -- Carbide collided yet again with Terra's back. She rubbed her nose with an irate expression, even though she already knew what Terra had stopped for. A fair amount of viruses had set themselves up for gratuitous amounts of ass-whooping, right there in front of their eyes. A trio of funny-looking floating white dolls, a duo of less funny-looking black ones, and two boring turrets. Her face drooped slightly when she remembered what she had to do.

"... So I guess I'll be on guard duty again...?" muttered Carbide, already knowing the answer. Terra smiled warmly, putting a hand on the little SP's head. "... A steadfast sentinel," said Terra. Carbide brightened up a little when she heard the new moniker. "That sounds better!" she said, pulling out her shield and setting herself up to absorb some attacks. Terra chuckled as she saw the little one jump into action, and opened communications with her operator.

"Scarlet, SonicBoom and ElementalRage2," said Terra, setting up her usual attacks. As effective as the Holy terrain was at reducing damage, she preferred it if she took none at all. For that, she needed some terrain she was familiar with. A small scrape on the glowing panels in front of her with her boot caused it to shift about, before a small circle of soil appeared around her feet. The familiar sphere of protection then appeared around her after a few moments. Near the viruses, a much larger circle of earth was spreading, covering most of the enemy side.

Still without chips, Terra continued her attack, stomping decisively on the soil. The earth transferred the force of her stomp, and amplified it twofold, threefold, tenfold... until a powerful eruption of the earth behind the CannonGuard viruses showed up to make a startling point. Terra had placed it as such, as she didn't want to waste her attack pointlessly on the viruses' shields; flanking it was the best option she had.

A small pause was had before Terra looked about, still chipless. Carbide saw her Navigator looking about in confusion, and in a feat of sudden thought-connection, read the main chip queue. Noticing it to be blank, she threw her voice out to the currently-sleeping operator. "SCARLET, ARE YOU THEEEEERE?" bellowed Carbide, with just enough volume to snap Scarlet temporarily to the waking world and notice the queued chip request.

"Oh, fuck, sorry, sorry," apologized Scarlet, as she hastened her button presses to send Terra her chips. The Navigator was somewhat struck by surprise at Carbide's quick response to the situation, but she knew she had to focus on the targets at hand. Focusing on the ground beneath her, she drew up a thin wisp of dirt to two of her fingers, and quickly snapped it at the Twin viruses, causing it to "crack" like a whip and sending a lethal sonic boom towards them. With how it was fired, it would also catch certain projectiles and cancel them out.

Afterwards, the terraformer quickly switched targets, pointing her fingers towards the Weather viruses, as if to fire a bullet from them. The wisp of earth from earlier began to concentrate quickly in front of her hand, and formed a brown fist in the same shape as her gun-finger gesture. Shortly after, two fingers from the earthen hand disconnected themselves, and fired themselves towards the Weather at lethal speeds.

When Terra started off by 'desecrating' the holy panels with her own, dirty soils, it only managed to sweep up the Cannonguard and none of the other viruses. Her powerful tremor caught the turret off guard as it deleted them before they had the chance to lay down an attack, but other viruses were ready for their own attacks.

The Twins fired their ever-accurate energy bullets at the navi, only to have it both fended off by Carbide's shield. The Weathers, however, had some luck on their side when their attack met with success as it nicked Terra with their electric breaths. When it was Terra's turn to attack once more, the sonic boom and the elementalrage landed on the viruses...Only to have the damages halved thanks to the holy panels.

"Whoa!" exclaimed Carbide, as the energy blasts ricocheted off her rock-solid shield, courtesy of two Twin viruses. She hadn't had much opposition yet, and it was cool being on defense and all, but receiving an attack head-on was something she hadn't quite experienced yet. In any case, Terra had it a little worse, with some electrical blasts being directed her way from a few enterprising Weather viruses.

Still twitching from the shocking attack, Terra's barrier process restarted, this time with a yellow glow around her body, as the metal from under her feet fueled the defensive protocols for her protection. In addition to that, she attuned herself to the wavelength of the steel form of the ground beneath her, and amplified it towards the glowing Holy panels.

The glow from the panels slowly died down, changing rapidly into a grey sheen instead, covering a good deal of the ground and denying the remaining viruses their protection from Terra's devastating ground-based attacks. "ElementalRage, CornShot," she requested, fending off the damage from the attack earlier. "Careful out there," warned Scarlet, delivering the battlechips requested to Terra.

As the chips arrived in her queue, Carbide eyed the display that projected the queue's current residents to her with a rather longing look. Terra noticed her support program's behavior, and swiped one of the chips for the little one's use. "... Don't waste it," said Terra, when Carbide gave the Navi a bit of a disbelieving stare. With a small glare added in from her Navigator, Carbide panickingly started up the battlechip process, and pointed her shield, which had already reformed, at the Weathers.

The metal around her shimmered a bright orange, and arcs flew up to her rocky arm. "Aaahhh!" she exclaimed, as the recoil caused her to retreat a little from the lightshow she was currently holding, releasing the energy flow. A luminous beam of yellow, complete with electrical discharge off to the sides, made its way magnificently towards the Weathers. "Take that, suckers!" the SP excitedly proclaimed.

Back in the hotel room, Scarlet put a hand up to her lip, observing Terra's movements, who was currently loading up her CornShot battlechip. "Just like that time with that Durandal... she does care about her allies quite a bit," noticed Scarlet, as she got up to wash her face for a little to ward off any other sudden nodding-off sessions.

Meanwhile, Terra had her gun-finger pose still at the ready, concentrating a fairly large-sized chunk of earth in front of her index finger into a rough bullet shape. After a few moments, she was satisfied with the results, and let the bullet fly towards the Twins, ready to do some lethal damage to them. Hoping that was the last of them, she began to prepare for evasive maneuvers. The attack from before had sapped some of her mobility, however, and she was a little slower than usual.

After cutting off the viruses from their communication with their holy virus god, Terra and Carbide proceeded to lay down some divine justice on them. Carbide successfully zapped the rest of the Weather with a single attack, but Terra had a tougher time when the Twins retaliated and managed to wound the navi before they went down simultaneously...

Nonetheless, Terra came here and created hell on earth, completely destroying the once holy area into nothing more than a land full of soil and metal...

Patting off some dust from her gloves, Terra crossed her arms as she watched Carbide jump about, excited from the rush her triple-deletion shot gave her. Expending much of her energy before coming back to Terra, Carbide excitedly tugged at Terra's arm, motioning her to go forward. "C'mon, I wanna go and fight more viruses! C'moooon!" she pestered, eliciting only a hesitant grin and a quiet resistance from her Navigator.

Soon after, she came to the coordinate location Scarlet had given her, which had a pink-scheme NormalNavi standing around, playing with some projection in front of her. There was a secured data package box near the Navi's feet, presumably what they came for. From behind the screen, one would plainly that it was the popular "Furious Fliers" minigame. Despite the cool-sounding name, it simply involved using birds as ammunition to shoot at pigs. Terra didn't really get why it was so popular, and was about to ask, when the Navi noticed her approach, and hurriedly shifted the screen to something that looked a little more work-related.

"Yeah?" said the Navi, loading up a clipboard program on the holoscreen in front of her. "I've come here on authorization of Scarlet A. Krysarch," reported Terra, to which the Navi immediately straightened up. "R-Right, I'll need an authorization ID," the Navi said in a stiff voice, to which Terra nodded, and transferred her information to the screen. The Navi picked up the package near her feet lightly, and handed it over to Terra.

Carbide took the chance to swipe it away, and ran about with it. Terra reached out, but realized it wasn't worth the trouble, and turned back to the delivery Navi. "... Thank you for your service," she said stiffly. The Navi bowed out, and Terra went towards looking about for Carbide. It seemed that in her haste, Carbide had ran off and disappeared from her master's eyes!

... Of course, that was what Carbide thought, when she snuck up on her Navigator as sneakily as she could manage. The latter was aware of the footsteps from behind her, and yet she appeared to be completely oblivious, ignoring them entirely. Carbide placed the package on the ground, and tiptoed as silently as she could manage, and leapt up to Terra's back.

"Ha!" she exclaimed, latching onto the Navigator's back and planting her hands where it counted. Terra made a "surprised" gasp, and flatly stated, "... Ahhh, you caught me off my guard." Carbide didn't seem to mind the unimpressive acting, however, and just went along with it. "That's right! Hahahaha!" she said, kneading her prize with fervor.

Some minutes later, Terra was crouching over an unconscious Carbide, whose face suggested that she was trapped in a state of bliss. "That was amusing," said Scarlet, who was currently consuming some tea and crackers she had somehow spirited away from the stall outside. Terra had given up poking at the SP's face after a few moments, and retrieved the package that they were tasked to deliver, putting it into her storage space.

However, when she attempted to jack out, the familiar beam of light signalling their exit didn't appear. "... Scarlet, is there anything wrong with the jack-out protocol?" said Terra, finding the error strange. "Eh? Shouldn't be anything wrong," replied Scarlet, who ran through some quick diagnostics through the PET systems. "Hmm, it's a location mark problem. Jack back out in Yoka. There's a path to the NetSquare nearby, you could use that to get back," instructed Scarlet.

"... Understood," said Terra. Looking down at Carbide, she sighed, and hoisted up the little SP in her arms in a princess carry. Terra observed that her support program was surprisingly light, given that most of her weight was the rocky exterior that made up her main defense. Snoozing comfortably, Carbide leaned slightly on Terra's sizable chest, giving Terra doubts on whether the little one was actually asleep.

Turning back to where she started From, Terra and Carbide suddenly came across something they haven't found before. What looked like a stage that was still incomplete, four viruses stood on top of it as they looked down onto the navi and her SP. The lights behind the stage lit up, nearly blinding anyone that saw directly into it, and the viruses placed them into specific positions for a pose! How fancy!

-BATTLE ONE, START!-
"Mmmrnmrnm..." mumbled Carbide, as she started to wake up, which was Terra's cue to slowly let the SP down from her arms. Still half-asleep, Carbide complied silently, sitting up on the paneling and rubbing her eyes groggily. "What time is it...?" she muttered, yawning as she stretched her arms and legs out. Terra crouched down, put her finger up to the SP's forehead, and pushed it back slightly.

Even that small action, however, was enough to send her almost tumbling backwards. "... Time to go back home," replied Terra matter-of-factly, a small smile on her face. Carbide pulled a long face, scratching her head idly as she was pulled up by Terra. "Home sounds nice..." she said, ambling along at a leisurely pace beside Terra, who was content to watch over the little one.

It wasn't long, however, before they met some more adversaries, which consisted of a few unwelcome viruses. Though they had rested for some time, and healed most of their injuries, Terra much preferred that they didn't get any opposition on the way back. Shielding her eyes lightly from the high beams of the stage lights, she observed them. After a bit, she saw that there was something about them that she didn't quite place earlier.

"They don't seem like they want a fight," commented Scarlet, speaking out Terra's thoughts exactly. Carbide was too busy shielding her eyes from the extreme brightness to comment on anything. "Still, try to build up some defenses, in case they do attack. I'll send you some ammo for your counterattack, but otherwise, keep it low," she said, giving some instructions out for once in quite a while.

Terra then found herself armed with an ElementalRage1, CornShot1, and MarkCannon2. "... Thank you, Scarlet," said the Navi, transferring the first of the three to her Support Program, seeing as she liked it so much. She could defend herself quite well enough with the remaining two. "Don't fire until they attack us, Carbide," ordered Terra, to which Carbide took a little offense to, but eventually nodded anyway. "O-Okay," she replied hesitatingly, raising her shield and loading the ElementalRage data into it, just as she did for last time.

After that, Terra shifted the earth beneath her to a metallic shine, prepared to receive the electrical attacks from the Sparky viruses as the gleaming yellow protection enveloped her body. She then loaded the two gun-type chips into her processes, and formed two earthen fists near her. The floating hands were shaped into pointing gestures, their index fingers loaded with both of the battlechips' powers. Now ready to fire at any moment, she waited, watching for any attacks to come.

The viruses continued their silence as they watched Terra and Carbide prepare themselves for the upcoming battle, staying still till Terra was completely ready to start the fight. The Sparky viruses began to float onward as they dropped down from the stage and onto the metal floor, not even letting off a spark of electricity from their body as they slowly neared Terra. The BigHat viruses, on the other hand, threw two bombs to take place of the Sparkys on top of the stage, dancing along idly as they watched the bomb counter go down...

"Fire," said Terra, after which the two immediately started up all of their offensive processes. One of the earthen fists raised itself up, and blasted off its index finger towards the Sparky, hopefully taking them both out without much reprisal. Carbide raised her rocky shield towards the BigHats, and let the charged energy release itself. A barrel reformed itself from the interior of the shield, shaping the defensive article into an impromptu cannon, from which a brilliant beam of orange fired.

"Scarlet, SonicBoom, MoonBlade, ElementalRage2," said the Navi, who rolled off to the side, in case any of the viruses decided to be stubborn and live from the initial assault. Raising another fist, she fired off the second round of attack at the same time Scarlet loaded up her request of massive damage overdose. The fingerless fists then smashed together swiftly, molding themsleves into a giant blade, which Terra then took hold of.

Leaping forward, she swung it around with immense force, cleaving anything that would happen to be unfortunate enough to collide with its flight path, which would likely include some Sparky, if they survived. The force of the sword swing was such that it also tore at the air, creating a powerful sonic boom that rocketed towards the BigHats. After her circular spin, she smashed the blade towards the ground, creating a fissure through the metallic terrain. From the fissure, a bright yellow light burst forth, making it the fourth and final overkill shot against any that would have had survived her earlier barrage.

"... Wow, overkill," commented Carbide, who nevertheless enjoyed the show.

Having to multi-task aiming multiple attacks against moving targets proved to be too much to handle for Terra as the Cornshot missile went long and flew off into the distance without hitting anything. The Elementalrage beam had more success, striking a penetrating blow against both BigHats (60) (60). The Sparkys weaved their way towards Terra and Carbide to exact their revenge but Terra proved too nimble for them and was able to avoid both. Carbide had a harder time moving out of the way and needed to rely on her shield to protect herself. The Sparky virus crashed down hard against the reinforced shield, cracking through it completely before zipping away (1 hit + break).

A powerful shot from Terra's MarkCannon ended one of the fleeing Sparkys (100) while her follow-up slash from her Moonblade gravely injured the other (90). It had enough life to stagger away but was leaking motes of electricity along its hobbled path. Terra turned her efforts to the Bighats with a Sonicboom wave and deleted the first one in line (120) but the second virus must have been out of range or something because it was still standing after the attack. Another stronger Elementalrage beam was fired to finish it off but somehow it only landed a glacing blow, against the brim of the virus's oversized headgear.

The flashbombs, which had gone neglected by Terra, let off loud beeps designed to draw attention to them. Instinctively, Carbide and Terra turned and immediately received a double dose of crippling flashes. Terra's barrier absorbed and diluted the light enough for her to recover quickly from it but Carbide had no such protection and was subjected to the full force of both bombs (10)(10). Now blinded, stunned and on the verge of being EJO'd, Carbide was completely helpless.

The Bighat, pleased at the success of its attack, grinned and lobbed another bomb at the duo.

"Waaaaah!" screamed Carbide, as the flash bombs exploded in a brilliant display of light. She held up her hand to re-form the shield that was broken earlier by the Sparky, but it was too late. Her eyes were already flooded with a visual-disruption bug, and her body froze up, overtaken by the shock of the explosive. This was it. She was about to be deleted, and dissipate into the ether.

"Tsk!" clicked Terra, as she saw her support program succumb to the bomb's effects. Fortunately, her yellow barrier had deflected the system-lock bugs that the bombs carried, and dissipated some of the light that had been emitted. A burst of speed overtook her feet as she dashed for Carbide, and managed to grab the SP in her arms just as she was about to hit the hard floor.

"Scarlet!" she said loudly, as a list of chip requests was transmitted to Scarlet's screen. Frantic fingers danced across the tactile holographic screen as she selected a host of gun-type battlechips for her Navigator's use. The battlechip data quickly transmitted itself over the air as Terra put up her orange terrain-siphoned barrier and started to assimilate her offensive plan.

... That is, if it could be called a plan. All that was in her mind was simply to unload every single high-accuracy chip she could find at the remaining viruses. And for that, she simply had to do one thing. Running across the metal floor, she drew up the metal to her hand, and formed a long, shiny barrel. A revolving three-slotted gun chamber appeared on its back, and rotated to be loaded with the appropriate data.

After that, all that was left was to go completely nuts with the trigger, with the terraformer taking shot after shot at her enemies while her SP struggled with trying to overcome the system lock that had been forced on her. Carbide gritted her teeth as she squirmed around in Terra's free arm, small electrical arcs coursing on the surface of her skin.

Exhaling a sigh of relief, Terra lowered her gun-arm, letting the metal disintegrate into the flooring she had created. Her boots made a slight clanking sound on the steel as she advanced slowly, being careful not to let the squirming Carbide fall from her arms. With each step, her terraforming processes returned the paneling to a normal state. After a bit of walking, they reached the glowing portal that led to the NetSquare. By then, Carbide had already stopped her struggling from the stunning effects of the earlier FlashBomb, yet Terra still carried her anyway.

Confused with the situation, Carbide hadn't done much, until she realized that she was extremely close to what she had just handled a few minutes ago, and with full frontal display. A mischievous look appeared on her face before Terra made a similar-looking smile. She then promptly pinched the SP's cheek and pulled at it with generous application of force. "Ow! Owowowowow! Owwwwww!" yelled Carbide, as they passed through the portal, on their way back home.
