A Rocky Start?

Glowing a shade of yellow, a portal in the Netopian network transported two humanoid shapes into the foray, which were quickly revealed to be Terra.EXE and her newly-born Support Program, Carbide.SP. As they walked forward, Terra wanted to keep some distance between her and Carbide, but the SP would relentlessly close in on her, until the former simply gave up.

"Heeee," giggled Carbide, as she latched on to Terra's arm, hugging it close to her. Scarlet watched the scene with a little bit of amusement, though she clearly saw how uncomfortable Terra was with the situation.

Terra and her overly affectionate support program wandered through Netopia Net. They came across an odd sight, a mass of stone spires that jutted up from the otherwise flat plain. The spires were thin, about five inches in diameter, and reached up to about chest high on Terra. The spires were twisted and misshapen like gnarled roots, but each reached up toward the sky.

Standing amongst the spires was a trio of viruses. The viruses were smashing the spires at their base, collecting them and positioning them in a small pile off to the side. It was almost like they were harvesting the spires so they could be brought somewhere. When the viruses caught sight of Terra and Carbide, they grew aggressive and moved in to attack.

"Ooooh, these are neat!" quipped Carbide, letting go of Terra's arm and running over to one of the spires that jutted forth from the ground. Terra exhaled in relief, moving about her arm to loosen it up from the tight vicegrip earlier. "Having a bit of trouble, Terra?" snickered Scarlet, to which Terra replied with a tiny smile and a roll of her eyes. Walking up to the spire, she watched Carbide bounce up and down around the formations excitedly. The more she watched the child act innocently, the less Terra put up her guard.

Meanwhile, Carbide was waiting slowly and surely for the moment, and slowed her pace until she was near Terra's side yet again. However, just before Carbide could strike at her master, Terra put up a hand, stopping them both from walking and watching the newly-found Quakers. "... Cover me," said Terra, as she scraped the floor before her with her boot, forming a small patch of metal in front of her.

The patch of metal creeped out quickly around her and towards the Quakers, quickly turning an entire swath of paneling into shimmering metal panels. "Darn it... fine," said Carbide, as she threw out her hand, causing her rock growths to suddenly burst out of her arm in twists and turns, until it created a large shield before her. "Ha! There we go! You'd better be grateful!" she exclaimed, swinging the shield about happily as she readied herself into a prone position.

Meanwhile, Terra had some defenses of her own, with the electrical properties of the metallic terrain coursing through her systems. Siphoning it into energy, a yellowish glow surrounded her, forming a fine barrier for her protection. After that, she concentrated on gathering even more ground-bound energies into her body, fueling it into her gloves, which started to give off sparks.

Focusing on the Quakers, she pinpointed an area to strike, and pounded on the ground with her open palm. An electrical arc flew into the metal, coursing through it until it erupted near the Quakers in a brilliant spherical explosion of magnetic wonder. "Pheeeeew," whistled Carbide, as she witnessed the power of her Navigator first-hand. "And she hasn't even used any chips yet," muttered Scarlet, propping her head up with her hands as she watched.

Terra prepared for her attacks while Carbide stood aside protecting herself from the viruses. The Quakers weren't too quick to realize the meaning of the new metal panels beneath them till they saw the sparks flying from Terra's arm. One virus was able to leap up into the air, leaving behind two of its comrade to be zapped by the navi's attack!

It seemed that her attack didn't have much discernable effect, except for one of the Quakers going down. One of them was damaged enough for her to pick off, but there was a priority to these things first. "... MarkCannon2," requested Terra, as soon as she saw one of the Quakers escape. Carbide saw this, and called out. "Hey, hey, don't I get something to do, too?!" she complained, waving her shield around erratically.

Looking at her hyperactive little assistant, Terra contemplated her options. "... Send Carbide a MarkCannon1," she said, after some deliberations. Of course, since Carbide didn't have a direct link to her systems, she'd have to spend some of her processing by proxy. Scarlet merely gave them an okay, and sent in the two chips.

Terra threw up her hand, and pointed it towards one of the spires. Breaking some of it off, she melted and molded it in her usual way, eventually forming her signature earth-fist. Loading the MarkCannon data into it, the fist immediately broke up into a circular gathering of parts, assembling itself into a satellite dish-like formation. The Lock-On data imbued itself into her targeting systems, allowing the dish to swivel up at the Quaker in the skies. Carbide looked at the display in awe while she received her data as well.

"Thanks, sis! Here, have one, on the house!" said Carbide, growing a shield out of her forearm and dislodging it. The rock still held fast, interlocked into a precise pattern. The SP then threw it towards Terra, who held out her other hand, and stopped the hurtling shield in mid-air, nodding to Carbide in thanks. The latter grinned, producing a thumbs-up, as she attempted to reproduce the earth-fist.

Being a direct creation of Terra, it wasn't long before the little one also managed an exact copy, which she then pointed at the Quaker on the ground. "... Fire," ordered Terra, which Carbide picked up the hint on, and synchronized her offensive processes with her master. "Okay, let's go!" she exclaimed, with the two in perfect timing as they shot both of their weapons at the same time.

Terra looked at the Quaker's shell fall down from the sky, watching it crash into the floor beneath it, and crossed her arms. She was getting her good eye for aim back, though that may just be the MarkCannon's handicap. Carbide's shot was a little off, but she saw that her little assistant hit her target all the same. It's not that bad of a result. I could bring myself to trust he-- she thought to herself, before those thoughts were cut off by a sound behind her. Footsteps, the pattern of which Terra had already burned into her mind, triggered her response to immediately turn her head.

"Damn it all, I thought I could catch you off guard," said Carbide, who had taken her time to sneak up on Terra, hands primed in a most suspicious way. Awkward silence followed shortly after her statement. It took Carbide a little time for her to realize her mistake. ... Crap, did I really say that?! Immediately, she tried to defuse the situation by making a cute, sheepish-looking grin, but that did not have much of an effect on her Navigator. The green-clad one of the pair simply responded to it by pulling Carbide's cheek strongly. "Ah, ah, ah!! Ish hurs!!" exclaimed Carbide, her voice distorted by the act.

Terra let go of her SP's cheek after a couple of seconds, having dealt her punishment. "... Let's move forward. Scarlet, could you lead the way?" she said flatly. "Of course," said the operator, snickering at the scene as she watched Carbide rub her cheek morosely.

Terra and Carbide was really getting into strange situations...mostly "cracked" situations. A pair of Pogojacks were rampaging across the field as it destroyed the panels little by little, not caring for the Molokos that scurried all over the place, but the sheep viruses seemed to have no trouble traversing the broken terrains. As usual, the virus stopped what they were doing to a dead halt as they noticed the presence of a navi, directing their fullest attention at their prey!

-BATTLE TWO, START!-
"Hmm, looks like a fair bunch this time," commented Scarlet, shuffling idly through the map route she had drawn up, her chip folder, and a chat BBS. "You'll have to pass through this road to get to the area. Is there anything you'd like?" she asked, referring to the battlechips. Looking at the small collection of viruses, Terra ran a hand through her long hair, and paused for a moment. Raising her foot, she stomped on the ground, and scraped across it with the sole of her boot.

Immediately, the standard white paneling started to degrade into a brownish texture, and soon, a cone-like area spreading outwards from Terra had its ground features repaired and transformed into soft, dark brown earth. Digging her boots into it, she continued her thoughts for a moment further, before opening her mouth to speak. "Hey, heeeey, can I get something, too?" Strangely enough, the voice that came out was not hers, but a certain interrupting assistant. Turning her head to stare blankly at the cheekily waving Carbide, Terra repeated her earlier attempt to speak.

"... Elemental Rage."

A beep signified the affirmative on the operator's side. "And there we go. Good luck," said Scarlet. Terra responded with a small nod, and looked at Carbide. The SP was practically about to jump, waiting for her orders. "... Guard duty," said Terra flatly. A disappointed "Eeeehhh?" was heard from the smaller of the pair as the Navi's defense systems started up in response to the soil change, encasing her in a greenish energy barrier.

"Uuuu, fine. You'd better have something cool to show for it!" relented Carbide, stomping on the ground to raise up a pillar of rock, which she effortlessly ripped out from its source and used as a tower shield. After that, she cautiously approached the front lines, ready to defend against any incoming threat for her master. In the rear, Terra began to draw from the battlechip's energy reserves into her own, gathering a ball of energy into her hand. The sphere crackled as arcs of light flew up to it from the soil Terra was standing on, then erupted in a brilliant emerald ray, heading straight for the Moloko.

"Whoaaaaa," gawked Carbide, seeing the green energy beam blast right past her. "That was awesome!" she exclaimed. Her master started to lessen her boots' grip on the soil, in case she had to receive a sudden attack unexpectedly. After that, she made preparations for her signature move, gathering energy into her core. Stomping on the ground once again, shockwaves rocked beneath her, gathering towards her position. Then, she struck at the ground with her open palm, redirecting the wave's energy towards the virus group.

Instantly, the soil near the viruses cracked up, and some wooden spikes came up from the cracks, aiming to skewer anything that was in their way, hopefully including some unfortunate viruses.

The Molokos closed in while Terra set up a defensive perimeter which involved covering the floor in a thick brown carpet of dirty dirt. Her barrier went up and Carbide's shield bolstered her confidence. Her dirtrage beam wasn't able to strike all three of the sheep as they weren't charging at her in single file. She managed to shear two of them of their protective wool when they were within range and deftly slipped between two of the charging sheep harmlessly.

The Pogojacks bounced around the field erratically as if they weren't even trying to attack Terra at all, but they were destroying the soil something fierce.

Terra couldn't be bothered with their antics as she spun around to take advantage of the vulnerable backsides of the two Molokos and released a cluster of spears beneath their position. One was skewered but the other two escaped unharmed. The Pogojacks were still nowhere near the attack to be harmed.

That's when one of the jumping viruses leapt from Terra's blindspot and began bearing down on her elemental shield from a vantage point Carbide couldn't protect from. The bubble held, but the floor beneath her didn't. The violent rattling cracked and cleared away the dirt beneath her feet, destabilizing the barrier and leaving her open. Fortunately, the virus seemed to run out of gas and leapt away.

Meanwhile, the two remaining Molokos regrew their wooly coats and circled around for another run at Terra her SP.

With her barrier destabilized, Terra gritted her teeth, and summoned up more of her strength to repair the damage. With her soil-creation process on cooldown for the moment, she resorted to her other Terraform process. Stomping on the ground once again, she appeared to break the cracks beneath her feet. However, what was really happening was that she was fusing the nearly-broken panels back together, welding them and covering them in a solid steel coating. This spread to the rest of the panels unaffected by her processes, leaving the ground shiny and tough.

Scarlet watched the Moloko's regenerating defense for a bit, and thought of something. Scrolling through her chip lists, she found one item suitable for taking care of the problem easily. "Hmm, Terra, switch your usual defense with this for a second. Have Carbide reinforce it," said Scarlet, sending in the RiskyHoney battlechip. Terra raised an eyebrow when her defense protocols were overridden, and a small honeycomb-projection appeared before her. She attempted to touch it, but her hand reflexively retracted itself from the honeycomb when a buzzing sound was heard.

"... Carbide, shield reinforcement," said Terra, eliciting a confused "Huh?" from her assistant. "Shield reinforcement," repeated Terra, pointing to the honeycomb barrier she had been forced to put up. It took Carbide two solid seconds of blank staring before she got the idea. "Oh! Oh, reinforcement! R-Right!" stammered Carbide, pointing towards the honeycomb formation, after which it became more opaque. Terra could only assume that meant it was somehow stronger, and readied her position.

Scarlet continued scrolling through her battlechip options, and stopped her cursor on two specific ones. "From what I see, Terra, I'll send you some of our better chips. Ready up for SonicBoom and Typhoon," said Scarlet, tapping on the screen twice in succession. Terra nodded, and received the battlechips. Carbide heard the exchange, and rattled, "Do I still have to sit here and do nothing?" The terraformer sighed, and searched for suitable targets for her attacks.

"... Let one of the charging viruses past you and towards me," said Terra flatly. As Carbide puffed up her cheeks in indignation, Terra located the PogoJacks, and took in their information she had gathered from before. They had the ability to degrade paneling, and would be a bother to her defense systems. On the other hand, the Moloko needed to be double-tapped, considering their regenerating defense. She decided to prioritize the pogo sticks, and loaded up the battlechip. Winds gathered at her feet, and she widened her stance.

Stomping on the ground, a shockwave blasted out from her feet, which she then kicked at the pogo sticks. The wave materialized as a white apparition in the air, thin as paper, sharp as a blade, as it sang through the air, ready to slice through anything in its path. Shortly after, she redirected the winds back towards herself, and caused it to circulate around her, like a typhoon. The winds encircled her for some moments, blowing her large ponytail about dramatically as she endured the forces that the attack created upon her. Soon, she released the artificial cyclone, causing it to spin rapidly towards one of the Moloko.

Of course, Carbide's reaction was, as expected, to stare at the attacks with awe. It seemed like she would never get tired of them.

The Molokos second attack went even worse than the first as one of them missed again and the one that got through was stung to death by an especially horrible swarm of Netfricanized bees.

One of the Pogoacks went after Carbide, rendering his reinforced shield into shards within moments. Terra countered with a Sonicboom, dispatching both the Pogojacks at the same time. Carbide stood in front of Terra, stunned at the PogoJack which had just decimated her shield with a simple jumping trick. She did see the sonic crash that saved her, and turned around to see Terra exhaling in relief. Joyfully, Carbide pounced at her master, who immediately backed up instinctively, and held a hand to her forehead to stop her. The smaller of the two waved her hands about comically, trying to push her way forward.

"Uwaaaaaaa!!" exclaimed Carbide, as she exhausted her energy reserves shortly, and fell limp against Terra's hand. As the latter retracted said hand, Carbide fell to the floor unceremoniously. Meanwhile, Scarlet was working on something through the BBS, and finally got it through. "All right! Hey, Terra, I just traded off some stuff for a tier-2 Elemental Rage chip. Stuff you really didn't use all the time," said Scarlet.

Terra raised an eyebrow at the statement, and pulled up her operator's current chip folder list through a holographic screen. "... Interesting. Thank you, Scarlet," said Terra, stroking her chin as she examined the ElementalRage2's statistics, while Scarlet beamed at her successful acquisition. Meanwhile, Carbide had gotten up, and attempted to sneak up on Terra once again. And of course, her forehead met the same resistance.

"... Couldn't you have tried a different approach?" said Terra, turning to Carbide's mock-angry face. The SP could have sworn that she saw the Navi's face with a mocking smirk just at that moment.

An odd sight fell upon Terra's and Carbide's eyes as they proceeded: a pair of Dharma appeared to be playing, appropriately enough, a game of air hockey. Behind each virus was a small patch of broken panels, which appeared to be created by HardHeads stationed behind each side of the action. To the side, a lone Handy found an interesting, non-destructive use for its bombs, as it appeared to be using them to keep score. 3-2, Dharma to the left. Interesting. And surveying the puck action, seemingly to make sure everyone played, was a RedUFO hovering above the disembodied hand.

Of course, once the viruses noticed the Navi and her SP, the game was suspended on account of single minded fury.

"Uuuuu..." grumbled Carbide, as she racked her thought processes, trying to find some way to "a different approach". Her fingers were pressed tightly to her temples as she pondered, albeit unsuccessfully. Terra walked ahead of her, looking back at her support program and putting up a hand to her chin in slight amusement. However, as they walked, Terra stopped in her tracks, while Carbide was still completely focused on her thoughts. "Uuu... wah!" exclaimed Carbide, as she collided with Terra's back.

Not realizing that her target was slightly off her guard and directly in front of her, Carbide yelled out. "Hey, don't just stop walking like that!" she puffed out, balling her fists up in indignation. Terra merely thumbed at the viruses in front of her, and Carbide's anger subsided, replaced by a small curiosity. "... Looked fun," commented Terra, crossing her arms, as the viruses noticed Carbide's yell, and halted their game in progress.

"I didn't think viruses could act like that," muttered Scarlet, as she rolled around on her bed, hugging her pillow close to her stomach. "Well, it looks like they're putting their game off for now just for us," said Carbide, putting her hands behind her head and making a blasé face. Terra scraped the ground in front of her just as mildly, changing its tone from white to brown, the color of fertile earth.

"I'll send you a Shake chip for the metal heads. Anything you'd like?" said Scarlet, tapping the screen for the battlechip selection. Terra put a hand to her chin as she contemplated the situation. "... Mm, Sonic Boom," muttered Terra, allowing her defense protocols to surround her in a green luminescent barrier. Carbide already had her shield formed up, and was holding it at the ready for an assault. Or, at least, that was what she thought. "Got it," replied Scarlet, sending in the Sonic Boom, and pulling up the laptop's monitor to watch the ensuing drama.

"... Guard duty," repeated Terra, as she formed a small earthen ball from the ground. Compressing it in her hand, the properties of the Shake battlechip were imprinted into the ball, and she lightly threw it into the crowd of viruses. The ball expanded into a yellow Heavy virus, which proceeded to slam its heavy body down onto the ground, and rolled towards the viruses, intent on crashing someone's party pretty badly.

However, the Heavy virus was also accompanied by an unexpected guest; a shard of rock decided to join the party, rocketing towards one of the Dharma. Terra raised an eyebrow, shifting her eyes towards her support program. Carbide was simply displaying a mischievous grin, showing that she had no intent of hiding her attack. "... That didn't look very impressive," said Terra slowly. "I know that!!" retaliated Carbide angrily, waving her arms about in a fit.

"... Mm," murmured Terra, turning towards the viruses and dashing off to the side, dodging any attack that was possibly directed towards her. "Hey, where're you going?! I'm not done!!" said Carbide, as Terra pulled up a thin curved pillar of rock from the ground, and flicked it off towards the enemies. Targeting the Handy and the UFO, the pillar lifted itself from the ground, akin to a gigantic rock blade, ready to chop up anything that got in its path.

Watching the Heavy virus roll around, Carbide's interest was peaked as she saw the powerful summoned virus pulverize the seemingly indestructible HardHead with ease. "That Heavy looks so cool," she commented, watching as it rolled around again at the other HardHead for another go at it. "I wanna have a go at 'em! Give me a chip that I can smash stuff with, Scarlet! Please please please pleeeeease?" pleaded Carbide, putting her hands together in desperation.

"Well, Terra? She did say please," chuckled Scarlet, resting her head on her hands as she kicked her feet about in the air. The Navigator sighed, and reserved some of her processing for the transfer, which Scarlet caught on to immediately. "Oh, you're such a nice girl, Terra. Anything you'd like?" teased the operator, as she selected one of the chips she thought Carbide would like.

"... ElementalRage2, and MarkCannon2," chose Terra, which Scarlet complied to quickly. "Hm, pulling out the big guns. I like it. Take them out quickly, and don't leave anything behind, then," supported Scarlet, which Terra and Carbide both nodded to. Carbide loaded up Scarlet's choice, and found it to be a MoonBlade. "Oooooh!" she exclaimed, as she fueled the data into her rock-generation process.

The result was a very long, very sharp shard of rock, attached to her shield-less arm. "So cool!!" she yelled, whipping it about in joy. Terra had to jump back a bit in order to prevent herself from being chopped Navigator meat. The support program looked back at Terra with a grin that said, "Watch me," and leapt off towards the right, swinging her new powerful weapon with reckless abandon.

Both Terra and Scarlet watched the over-enthusiastic Carbide leap into action with a small smile. "... Serves as a good distraction tactic, at least," commented Terra. "Oh, that's pretty cold of you," replied Scarlet. Terra didn't show any visible reaction as she adjusted her stance to fire her attack with more accuracy. Loading in both the Elemental Rage and Mark Cannon battlechip data, she formed her signature earthen fist, and morphed it into a very long barrel, arrayed on the sides with several stubs, its length easily longer than her leg.

Noticing that Carbide didn't target a certain UFO virus, she put the MarkCannon data first, and aimed at it. A low thump ensued soon after, with a spiked rock headed straight for the flying virus. After that, she decided that Carbide's crazy antics could probably go for some backup, and loaded in the ElementalRage data. The large cannon was then adjusted slightly to the left, and a powerful beam escaped the barrel.

After that, she let the rock-cannon disintegrate on its own, allowing herself to lose some weight to evade possible counterattacks.

720z + 23 Bugfrags
"Whoosh!" said Carbide, as she flipped the stony blade over her head, and let it fly up into the air. It landed some ways away from the battle, lodging itself into the paneling. Still, she whooped in joy, as if she hit some kind of target spot-on. Running back to her master, she reported her success with a cheery voice laden with happiness.

"Did you see that, Terra? Did you see me slice up that virus? I sliced it up good!" exclaimed Carbide, jumping up and down like a child. "... Yes, it was good," Terra smiled calmly, ruffling the smaller girl's hair as she walked past her to move forward. Carbide grinned idiotically, and trailed behind the green-clad Navi. "So now can I--" she started, before being snappily interrupted with a solid "No."

"They grow up so fast," mumbled Scarlet, still amused at the entire situation.

Proceeding netted a bland, ordinary battle...and twins! Unfortunately, these had nothing to do with blond chicks...on the other hand, the ground was all nice and shiny. That had to count for something.
