The Midnight Carnival

Sal logged into the network in a whip of smoke, this time she was far more alert then her last long in where she was practically jumped by the viruses.

As Saluki entered the Science Labs network, the first thing she saw was the wide glowing main road that went through the network. The second thing was this shock-haired shock-armed Billy standing right in front of her, blocking her way and looking generally menacing. The last thing was that two turrets were swiveling her way, from the left and the right of the path, a little ways back.

While she was waiting for her operators plan she took this time to try out her new barrier. A smoky, grey, semi-transparent sphere materialized around her; but she wasn't stuck in a hamster ball she was ready to move. Her ears perked atop her head and her knees bent as she was ready to try and sidestep the new onslaught of attacks.

Kari had three new viruses to take notes on more importantly to try her new chip and buster upgrades on. "It is alittle cramped on the road but it's perfect for our new toys, loading in Cracker Bomb"

The bomb materialized in the Navi's hands and she gleefully lobbed it between the two gunners. It was fun like a game of horseshoes and hand grenades. She wasn't opposed to making cracked panels when she was in control of what to crack.

Forming a barrier around herself, Saluki prepared to receive the attacks without further delay. The Billy started the offensive first, by firing a slow-moving ball of electricity, which the lupine Navi easily dodged without a second thought. However, the ball seemed to have a mind of its own, as after it missed its target, it changed direction back again towards her! Meanwhile, the Gunners wound up their minigun attachments and began to create a hailstorm of lead, with Saluki in the eye of the storm. However, without hesitation, the fox Navi used her agility, to sidestep the bullet rain, and wound up with only one hit to her barrier. In lobbing the grenade towards the Gunners, however, she got a little too excited and threw the bomb more towards only one of the turrets. Nonetheless, the explosive detonated successfully, and cracked some of the paneling. The hardened metallic surface underneath the turret was unaffected, but the turret itself was now exterminated.

Even with her swaying and staggering back and forth it was impossible for her to dodge all of the rounds; thankfully the ones that contacted the barrier made smoke burn off and lash away. What was left of the barrier rippled, bubbled and in a weakened in-cohesive state. The bullets that had contacted it lose their full momentum and fall harmlessly to the ground like pellets.

Deleting one of the gunners was still a success in her mind! Still that thunder ball was going to be a problem thanks to the limited amount of space and time they had. She didn't want to get caught in another hailstorm of bullet fire till her barrier was ready to be refreshed.

It was time to even the playing field and change the panels around. Sullen loaded in Set grass and instantly vines started racing and spreading from the panel she stood on; leaching; flowering and blooming all over the place to try and turn the pathway into a garden!

Saluki lashed and wiped her claws in the direction of the remaining gunner; ten long thin metallic strings tethering and coiling around the anchored gunner; she wasn't going to try and pull the virus towards her she was going to yank and pull herself onto it! Soaring across the field and hopefully with that thunder ball following suit. Sullen guessed that metal panel would help amplify the coming damage.

Still her timing was going to have to be perfect she was going to have to be ready to wriggle and climb about the turret before it tried to unload its barrels into her and she had to be sure to leap off at the last possible second in order to keep herself from being electrocuted. At best she could guide the cannons in the direction of the Billy and have the pair damage/delete each other. At worst, well she didn't want to think off the worst case scenario.

First off, Saluki went to neutralize most of the glowing road, turning it instead into a grassy path. Then, ALLEZ-OUP went the fox Navi, as the Gunner tried to lock on to her desperately. Of course, dodging all those shots was easy for Saluki, and she lured the homing thunderball towards the Gunner. Sure enough, the ball electrocuted the turret, causing its functions to halt for a second. The power was even amplified by the metallic surface it was on as well! The Billy, frustrated at the lack of dead Navis, continued to try and attack her, this time with bolts of lightning. Its rage got the better of it, however, as the bolts went clear over Saluki's head without any consequence.

The Navi didn't have time to enjoy the moment of rest she had earned; Sullen loaded in shockwave chip and the heavy pickaxe materialized in her hands. Saluki hefted the tool before she smashed the disabled virus and sent the shockwave down the road way towards the enraged Billy.

"Charge it!" the operator ordered her to close the gap and provided her with some additional fire power; a cannon chip was loaded in. Sal followed her shockwave close behind while her left arm morphed into that beautiful artillery. If there timing was perfect she could delete that Billy before it knew what happened.

Using her advantage of surprise, Saluki whacked her pickaxe, sending it crashing down on the Gunner turret before her and deleted it instantly. The Billy behind it suffered the same fate, and had its vitality shaved in half without much effort. This put it into survival mode: run or die. It began to be more wary of attacks as Saluki aimed her cannon at it. The shot was handily evaded, though the only driving force behind it was sheer terror now.

Saluki wasn't discouraged with her miss but she was going to make sure that the little bugger was going to be cornered. Ringing her bell three times before her monstrous half formed HealNavi struggled to pull itself out of the panel directly behind the vixen. It didn't fire or anything because it was playing obstacle.

Sullen didn't want to stop applying pressure on the Billy but she was quickly running out of chips to send Saluki. She wasn't going to risk grappling with that little lightning bug and with the two of them moving accuracy was somewhat limited. The shotgun chip was loaded in and Sal wasted no time in pelting plasma in the virus's direction.

Saluki would give her usual battle report even if it was a bit lengthy, commenting about the upgrades and her thoughts about the two new virus types. Sullen's attention was obviously elsewhere, the operators mind had drifted off elsewhere.

"Log out Sal I need your opinion on something."

The Navi wasn't one to argue, leaving the roadway in a buff of smoke.

Saluki logged back into the Science Labs network with a beam of light and a puff of smoke.

"Well let's see what late night busting is like on this network"

As Saluki reemerged onto the net, she discovered that she'd come down in close vicinity to two viruses, close enough to feel the heat emanating off of their fiery fists. The two viruses studied her briefly, then began to pound their fists together in rage, looking ready to kill. A metal hatch opened up nearby, allowing a cannonguard virus to lift lazily up above ground. The enemy soon caught sight of Saluki and the two Champus, then prepared for combat.

[weird, I didn't get an email update]

Sally growled lowly when she found herself far too close to the two fiery viruses; but thankfully Sullen ordered her after noticing the Navi's predicament.

"Make some room" she had a pretty good idea what would happen if Saluki got pummelled between the pair. But for now she had no idea about the Cannon but she assumed that it wasn't friendly.

She would start running and give them a real wide berth and she wanted to give them a new target. So with a ring of the bell her HealNavi pulled itself up from the ground one panel behind her; she empowered it with a wave of her hand. Still she figured that the yowling bulging undead wouldn't stand up to their attacks for very long but it would make a nice distraction.

Finally she would surround herself with that Smokey barrier just incase that cannon wanted to take a cheap shot at her while she was moving.

Starting by dashing away from the viruses, Saluki summoned her trusty zombie behind her while placing a barrier over her self. The lifeless Heelnavi fired its buster upon one of the Champus, but it enraged the virus even more as it rushed in for an attack!

Out of strange coincidence the virus was actually aiming for the zombie, but since Saluki was in the way, it changed its target in the last second. It swung its fiery left fist at the barrier and shattered it upon impact, leaving the navi wide open for the right hook at her side that left some minor damage.

Sally's Smokey barrier would turn black and murky before it started to dissipate, the second hit would cause her to grunt and stagger. There was still the smoldering imprint left on her stomach from where she took the blow. The zombie was furious that he was being ignored, firing its buster at Champu.

She needed more room! Those long thin metallic strings extended from the claws on her left hand and she lashed it around the melee type to try and knock the little bugger back.

Sullen took this time to set grass for Saluki; seeds, blossoms, bud, petals forming a maelstrom around her and slowly spreading across the stage.

She didn't waste any time standing around as soon as the first set of strings had disappeared the second set extended from her right; coiling them around the stationary cannon and using them to pull her towards it. Of course this was very risky, especially if she gets caught in the cannons mechanisms she would end up leashing herself to it like a dog on a post.

Finally she summoned her second companion; the little jingling of her bell caused the undead normal navi to climb out of the panel closest to the Cannon/Navi. She empowered it like its twin making it somewhat sturdier but Sally had her doubts considering how effective those punches have been.

After pushing away the Champu in front, Saluki successfully pulled her self on top of the Cannonguard and summoned another zombie. The viruses began attacking the zombies first, one facing a one-two combo by a champu and the other being blasted by a point-blank bullet by the turret. Despite being dead and decomposing, the zombies withstood the attack and successfully attacked the wounded champu virus.

Her two zombies would continue firing on the wounded Champu, both of their busters blasting in its direction. Still it might be the last shot that they get off for the time being if the coming plan worked.

"Jump Sally" Sullen loaded in the cracker bomb chip; Sal dropped her pay load right on the cannon/zombie while she had a chance to attack it. Leaping in a rather wide acrobatic arc hoping to avoid the explosion. It was likely that the blast caught the immobile virus and her pet zombie; she prayed to land on the grass in one piece.

She took this time to refresh that smoky barrier and ready herself for the next round of attacks.

The zombies proceeded to try and shoot some fire viruses. One did just that, but before the other could fire, its target suddenly teleported up to it, and delivered a pair of burning, flaming fists to its face, causing it to disintegrate back into the earth, as zombies often did when they ran out of HP. Saluki then tossed a bomb at the cannon...but unfortunately for her, the CannonGuard happened to lift its guard to attack, causing the explosion to be blocked. Luckily, she managed to escape the blast in time to avoid eating it herself.

But since the guard wasn't obstruction the cannon part of the virus, it allowed it to leisurely target and shoot apart the other zombie. Hmm, that looked painful. Good thing being a zombie gave you high pain resistance.

"I need more fire power!" She snorted in frustration at low little progress she was having with the trio. Still it was the first time that she had been in contact with any fire virus, let alone punch happy ones.

Sullen loaded in the Shotgun chip followed by Shockwave chip. "You're going to have to make it count because I'm running out of chips to send you"

The heavy pick would appear in her right hand while the left was occupied with the sleek double barrelled cannon. She heaved the pick into the ground and watched the shockwave spread in a long line towards the cannon. She knew that its guard had been up to deflect the bombs moments ago; so she was taking aim. Steadying the cannon with her right arm as she tried to finish it with a precise spread of plasma pellets. If she was lucky she would nail one or both of the Champu's along the way.
