Learning the Ropes

With the large assortment of viruses before them, the duo quickly split up and designated their own targets for the fight, leaving each other to focus on their own foes. After the proverbial lots were drawn, this left ClampMan with four targets to deal with on his own, while HandyMan was left to handle the other five — though he did take the ones that were distracted and sleeping. Oh well.

In the time it took them to divide the task, the other viruses had taken note of the newcomers more clearly now, and a fight seemed imminent.

-=Battle 2, Continue!=-

["Oh, well that's a lot to handle,"] Jack commented as ClampMan was left to deal with four somewhat intimidating-looking viruses. He'd never seen anything like the Champu or Spooky before, while the Fishy virus looked like some bizarre cross between a fancy fishing lure and something you'd see fixed to the end of a harpoon gun. Both he and his Navi were somewhat at a loss of what to do next; ClampMan was more keen on simply putting his massive claw in front of himself like a shield.
However, Danny came to their rescue yet again. ["Hey, we can use his SetSea!"] the boy exclaimed shortly before reaching over Jack's arm and pressed one of the highlighted NCP buttons. "My wha?" ClampMan blurted before the area around and beneath him suddenly lost all solidity and transformed into a small pool of water, in which the crustacean Navi fell into with a splash. ["What? We can do that?"] Jack asked as he rocked back and looked over to Danny. The boy grinned back, pleased with his own resourcefulness ["Yep! He likes swimming too, right?"] The boy asked, which prompted Jack's head to rock to the side in a "well, yeah, when you mention it..." sort of gesture.

While having the proverbial rug pulled out from him would normally have him steamed, it was undeniably pleasant to be in the water, though that didn't really change the fact there were still viruses gunning for him. That said, save for the Fishy viruses, the other two didn't look to be the swimming types. ["Now that he's submerged, try the AquaNeedle!"] Danny exclaimed and pointed to the aforementioned chip. Jack managed to slot this chip in without any difficulty, mostly out of luck, though he wouldn't admit it.

ClampMan got the chip's upload, and while he was now slightly familiar with its use, he initially was going to protest that now he couldn't see his targets. A second later, he got an idea. His two "eyebrows" popped up from the surface of the water, then the 90-degree angled tips twisted around to reveal a pair of periscopes. With those, he hopefully would at least have an idea of where his enemies ended up. With that information in mind, he then opened his slat-like mouth before firing off three highly pressurized bursts of water, the first being slightly more powerful than the first. The three blasted up and out of the pool of water in quick succession, and sailed in a high arc as they started to form into more needle-like shapes.

The leading shot and largest of the three needles was aimed towards the creepy spooky virus, while the second was aimed towards the flaming boxer, and the third to the right-most Fishy virus. The three needles crashed down with significant force and a splash of water, which then prompted ClampMan to swing his eyebrows/periscopes down so his entire body remained submerged and, in ClampMan's mind, safe from the mean-looking viruses.

To further protect the Navi, Danny had handed the BubbleWrap2Protection: 2-hit Aqua element barrier, per turn, for 3 turns

chip to Jack, which he slotted in without question; he didn't know what it did, but if Danny thought it was a good idea, he did it anyway. Though slightly obscured by the water surrounding the Navi, a bubble started to form at ClampMan's mouth, and continued to inflate like a chewing gum bubble, but eventually became so large it encased his entire body. Unknown to both ClampMan and Jack, while the bubble looked fragile, it added a significant layer of defense.

ClampMan
With his own foes to face, ClampMan and his slightly uncertain operator received some guidance and set about making the land more favourable for them. As the broad patch of water spread out, several trees collapsed inwards and bobbed on the surface. Most of the rough grass nearby and a goodly section of the course's fairway was obliterated by the sudden water hazard, and the viruses seemed to feel just a little bit upstaged in their efforts to vandalise the golf course. The two fishy viruses immediately dashed towards ClampMan, trying to ram him, just as their beclawed target slipped beneath the water, out of their reach. The pair went careening by ineffectively.

The other viruses looked around briefly, but before they could locate CalmpMan, he rose to the surface again, enough to launch a counter attack of his own. The three needles rose up, then rained down again — most unfortunately, the empowered one thudded past the Spooky and into one of the remaining trees, but the other two found their marks much more solidly. The Champy in particular took a severe dousing, and looked to be at the edge of survival.

Trying to shake itself off, it didn't rally appear to appreciate the rapid warp-in of the spooky, who made a consoling noise, and gave the other virus an overly friendly lick with its tongue. The flaming virus waved it away with one fist, uncomfortable, but it seemed stronger for the attention. It tried its best to get away from the embarrassing experience, and elected to make itself feel manly again by punching a giant crab, warping across to ClampMan as it did. In this moment, the virus didn't even really appear to care that the expanse of water dampened its flames; being saved by a spooky was just embarrassing to it, it seemed.

Its two punches both connected, but the first was intercepted by ClampMan's quickly formed bubble barrier, though the attack dispersed it. The second fist scored scoring him lightly, though all things considered it wasn't a heavy blow. The Champy warped back again, and pulled a face at the Spooky, who, in turn, made tongue actions as though it intended to lick him again.

ClampMan recoiled from the Champu's sudden appearance and one-two punches, then tried to swat the virus away with his claw, but it teleported away just as quickly as it came. "How the blazes can it do that?" the Navi foamed in frustration, while his protective bubble began to reform around him.

Meanwhile, Jack and Danny watched the battle transpire. Jack clued in to the Navi's HP gauge, which briefly turned red before it inched down from 100 to 90. ["What's that?"] he asked, and Danny chimed in. ["That's his HP, if it goes to zero, he loses and goes back to the PET,"] he explained, then grabbed ClampMan's second to last chip. ["Send this one in next!"] Jack did so, and briefly recognized the chip, he'd used it in the last battle.

As the chip uploaded, ClampMan's large right claw transformed into a different style of tool; from a wrench/vice grip to tin snips/shears. The Navi looked around, and tried to locate the closest virus he could find, eventually settling on one of the Fishy Viruses that attempted to steamroll him a few moments ago. He initially fired a burst of water from his slat-like mouth towards the virus. After starting his attack, he scuttled and reached out towards the fishy with his large, opened claw.

Instead of trying to swipe at the virus like a set of bear claws, he tried to get his scissor-like claw over the Fishy's position, then snapped it shut like a bear trap. The metal-on-metal ring of his claw slamming shut was punctuated by the hiss of pressurized air, vented from the two pipes that connected between the claw and the rest of his right arm. With luck, he had put enough PSI behind the strike to deliver more of a clean cut than a painful pinch.

Regardless of his success or failure of reducing the Fishy to viral sashimi, he expected the Champu to make another appearance. His eyes darted around as he tried to catch the viruses approaching as he sloshed about in the water. If he could figure out where the attacks would be coming from, he would try to scuttle away with the help of his legs and twin propellers underneath his carapace.

As much as the relatively battle-fresh navi was running low on chip resources, he was nevertheless careful in execution as his operator worked his way through learning the basics. His first shot winged the fishy he was aiming for, before both of hem charged back towards him for another pass. Fortunately, both came at him at the wrong angle,s and they passed to either side without hitting, but as the left one shot by, ClampMan reached out and wrapped his claw about it with a sound like water pressure and slicing flesh. The claw closed and bits of Fishy virus fell away to either side.

The Champy had another go at him a moment later, but the crab-like navi scuttled back, avoiding the pair of punches with sharp reactions, and it seemed as though this round or battle had gone solidly to the crab. Just as he avoided the Champy's assault, the ghost virus appeared beside him, and licked at him with its long, wet tongue, giggling to itself. It only got a mouthful of bubbles, whoever, and even they quickly reformed around ClampMan afterwards. The ghost looked disappointed that it hadn't gotten to lick him directly.

"Hey! Hey, hey, hey! Back off!" ClampMan snapped back at Spooky after it had attempted to attack. He tried to rear up on his legs and brandish his claw threateningly, but the sight of his shear-like claw gave him an idea. Instead of scaring it off, he could simply try to throw it. He lunged forward with his claw opened as wide as he could manage, aiming the angled points like horns directly towards the ghostly virus.

Once it appeared the Spooky was in range, he snapped his claw shut, but with significantly less force than his previous bisection of the Fishy virus. He wasn't sure if his claw would simply pass through like a ship through fog, but he had to try anyway. If he managed to snare the virus in his claw, he raised both above his head. He reared his entire body back, since he had relatively limited "arm" movement due to his design, and scuttled in place to point directly towards the remaining Fishy virus.

He'd thrown tools out of frustration before, but if he was successful to this point, it'd be the first time he'd attempted to throw a virus. "Now scram!" the Navi sputtered as a muffled bubbling noise rumbled from his carapace. The noise was from his attempts to pressurize the water in his body, then used said pressure to whip his claw down in an overhand throw, trying to fling the virus towards the Fishy.

His claw swung down after he tried to throw the virus, and hit the water with a large splash. The noise of the splash was then replaced with more rumbling noises from the Navi. This time, instead of using the built-up pressure to augment the strength/speed of a limb, he shot a much larger stream of water directly towards the Champu. Instead of looking akin to a burst from a squirt gun, it looked more like a spray from a garden hose, which he tried to aim right between the Champu's angry-looking eyes.

With the Spooky getting into his personal space, ClampMan took a direct approach to getting it out of his face, which was to hurl it towards one of the others. This worked swimmingly, as the Spooky's tongue whipped about before slamming into the side of the Fishy. Most fortunately, the attack also caused the Fishy to veer off course as it was charging towards him. The Champu took the chance to get up into his face and threw out a punch, but it bounced against his bubble defense, and the virus received a retaliatory burst of water in return, deleting it instantly.

By apparent strokes of luck, ClampMan's improvisation worked in his favor, along with the tides of the battle. ["Nice throw, Mister Bubbles!"] Jack commented. Though the unflattering nickname suggested he was being sarcastic, the tone of his voice made his comment seem much more congratulatory than mocking. Danny chimed in as well, piggy-backing on his Uncle's comment. ["Yeah! Only one left, go get him!"]

ClampMan looked at the Fishy, back at at the two Cantons' point of view, then to the Fishy again, hesitating. So far he'd been more or less defending himself, or maintaining his "personal space" perimeter, chasing down an enemy seemed really strange. ["You heard the boy, ClampMan! Go give 'im what for!"] This only caused additional consternation in the Navi, until the pressure seemed to get the better of him. "Gyaaa!" he belted out a waveringly unsure war-cry before he scuttled out of the water in a zig-zagging pattern towards the Fishy.

Once he felt he got close enough to his remaining foe, he punched his massive right claw forward in an attempt to catch the virus between its two curved and sharpened surfaces, then immediately snapped them shut with a metal-on-metal shriek followed by a hiss, as the excess pressure was vented out from his claw like a cloud of mist.

If the sharpened pinch wasn't enough, he drew his claw back, then attempted to rotate it 90 degrees so the "fingers" of his claw would extend out and parallel with the ground. He then lunged the claw forward again, this time in an attempt to deliver a latitudinal cut across the Fishy Virus. After attempting to cleave the virus in half with his shear-like claw, he reflexively brought it back in front of his carapace like a makeshift shield, though it wouldn't do much since his protective bubble was no longer to be found.

Throw deals damage to both thrown object/enemy and the second object/enemy. Damage occurs at point of collision with the ground/wall/ceiling/etc. or an object/enemy, not during initial grab attempt. Objects deal their max HP in damage (instead of the chip's damage) if they hit an object/enemy, then break. If they miss, the object just takes the chip's damage. This chip has a variety of uses.

FishyB
With only one enemy remaining on the field, ClampMan was pushed to approach the Fishy by his operator, using a zig-zagging motion to swerve in and out of a straight path to avoid the green birdlike virus's straight-laced attack. It mostly worked, as he barely grazed the Fishy's headstrong charge, before catching it with his claw, making some rather impactful pneumatic sounds as he crushed it decisively.

The crab-like Navi finally scuttled to a stop, and appeared to rise up and down as if he was breathing heavily (but with no visible lungs to speak of), then jolted from one side to the other, as if he was expecting more to come out of the proverbial woodwork. He only paused once Danny's voice came through his comm line. ["Good job, ClampMan!"] the boy congratulated, which seemed to calm the Navi a token amount. He could at least trust the boy to know if he was out of hot water, unlike his network "green-horn" of a NetOp.

His view was now clear of viruses, but it was also clear of all other programs, including his ally. "Uh... Cap'n... where did the other guy go?" he said aloud as he resumed looking around nervously. Both Danny and his uncle narrowed their eyes and looked own at the screen, to discover their ally had indeed disappeared. While Jack was more confused, Danny offered an explanation. ["He prolly had to log off, no big deal,"] he explained, apparently familiar with the event.

["Well then, what next, Danny boy?"] Jack asked. Danny responded partially to his uncle, but mostly to his Navi, ["We get the goodies, then keep going! You're still good to go, right ClampMan?"] The crustacean-themed Navi continued to look about, but admittedly he was still feeling like he was goin' full steam, and the glowing bits of data scattered about were enticing. "Aye aye..." the Navi responded with a notable unsurety in his voice before he scuttled around and gathered up the zenny datapackets. With nothing else left, he continued to scan the field and kept his right claw close, then continued sideways into the unknown, alone and not unafraid.

((Ready for Battle #3))
With his side of the battle won, ClampMan discovered that his ally had cleaned up his own viruses, but had, apparently, had to make a quick exit himself as well. There were no signs that he had struggled or lost, as all the other viruses were defeated, but he was nowhere to be found all the same. ClampMan and his fledgling operator were left to continue alone, moving out of the flooded section of the area and making their way forward.

It was only a short distance, however, before more signs of activity showed up. The scene just ahead of the high-pressure crab was a cluster of viruses with some... oddities. Two Swordies, wearing very old fashioned highland golfer attire over their helms, seemed to be struggling with a pair of melodies. It was hard to tell what was going on exactly, at first, but it looked as though each was trying to grab hold of one by the stem, and brandish it like a golf club. The melodies, while much amused, seemed to be having no part of this inappropriate use of music, and repeatedly slipped free or bounced away. Two small golf balls went largely forgotten on the fairway just ahead of where this altercation was on-going.

Beside the pair of frustrated golfers, a club bag with a rolling frame was being attended to by a Spooky, in a caddie's cap, who looked entirely amused by this, right up until the third melody, which had been ensconced in the club bag, bounded free and started to make a break for it, hopping in ClampMan's direction eagerly. The spook gave chase. A little further ahead of the group, the green was fairly close; a few sand traps circled it, but a bright green glow was mounted temptingly on the top of the flag.

ClampMan nervously scuttled along, so much that he wasn't really "taking in the sights." Jack, on the other hand, was marveling at how realistic (yet oddly not) his Navi's surroundings were; he wasn't sure what to expect, but a furnished golf course was far and beyond his imagination. He expected it to be like the plain netspace of his PET or inside the Widget's purely industrial-themed systems.

ClampMan caught movement out of the corner of his eye, and stopped cold in his tracks. "I see something, Cap'n..." the crustacean Navi whispered to his Operator. Danny reached over his uncle's arm to pan the PET's point of view further ahead. ["Oh, viruses. But what are they doing?"] he asked, and looked to Jack. His brow furrowed as he looked at the viruses. They were on a golf course, there was a caddy, and the hat-wearing ones looked like golfers? ["Uh... I think they're golfin'. Are those golf viruses or somethin'?"] Jack responded then followed up with a question of his own. This time Danny's brow furrowed, funny enough his expression was pretty similar to his uncle. ["I've never seen 'em with hats before..."] he remarked as the Melody slipped away and the Spooky gave chase.

ClampMan was spying from what he felt was a sort of safe distance, but it looked like the party was coming to him. "Gnaah..." he groaned to himself as he brought his right claw up to his face, like a shield. To his misfortune, the Melody was heading straight towards him, so he tried to hurriedly scramble out of the way. He tried to keep himself low to the ground, still keen on the flight side of "fight or flight," but the stress was causing his body to bubble and churn with building pressure.

Bubbles started to foam around his mouth, with several either floating up and away, or lazily floating to the ground only to pop on the notably well-rendered blades of grass below. ["Why aren't ya givin' em a walloping?"] Jack blurted in protest to the Navi's skittish behavior. "Waddaya mean, Cap'n?!? I'm programmed for repairs, not fightin'!" the Navi foamed back.

As ClampMan attempted to watch the peculiar scene, events transpired over the top of him in a rush of uncontrollable melodies unwilling to be used as golf clubs. The one bounding towards him didn't stop, and there was a moment where its gaze seemed to fix on the crab-navi with gleeful abandon. It approached over the next two bounces and tried to land on him with the third, making happy musical sounds as it did, but ClampMan scuttled to the side and out of its way. The spooky that was chasing it was mostly focused on trying to catch the escaped club, and didn't seem to immediately pay any heed to ClampMan for now.

Further up the courser, another Melody slipped free from the Swordy attempting to wrangle it, then bounced away, landing on the golf caddy and knocking it over with a crash. It seemed pleased by the sound the upset cart made, and attempted to bounce up and down on it a few more times, but the third bounce led to a rather more disappointing crunch as the caddy was crushed beyond recognition. The Melody stopped, then began to look around itself on the ground in confusion.

The other golf-swordy had a better handle on his 'club' and after struggling for a few moments, turned back tot he golf balls in a hap-hazard attempt to swing the heavy end of the other virus at it. the golf ball moved a few panels up as the Melody made a discordant sound, digging a divot from the green. ClampMan head some furious viral gibberish before the Swordy turned back and hurled the musical note in frustration — unfortunately, directly in ClampMan's direction. It bounced across the fairway but skidded to a halt just shy of where the observer watched from.

Exactly what ClampMan himself might make of this situation was up to him, but it was certainly on the stranger side of things.

Club Caddy: FLATTENED

The crustacean-styled Navi was practically trembling and literally foaming at the mouth from the built up mental and physical pressure. It seemed the Melody-club being hurled at him was the final straw. "HEY!!" ClampMan spat as he reared up with the help of his many legs, and left his claws outstretched threateningly, like he was trying to make himself appear as large as possible. His rage seemed to be directed toward the Swordy that chucked the Melody at him, instead of the poor excuse for a golf club itself.

Apparently not content with merely getting the virus's attention and looking "intimidating," he tilted his carapace back slightly as a bubbling gurgle welled up from inside his body, then spat a highly pressurized, high-volume stream of water towards the unskilled golfer/club-thrower. Unlike the garden hose-like blast he sent at the Champu virus in the previous battle, this looked more akin to a stream shot from a pressure washer; it actually left a trail of mist as it rocketed towards the Swordy at alarming speed.

["Wow, haven't seen him this steamed in a while!"] Jack chortled in an amusement, though he didn't put any emphasis on the pun. Danny was more in awe of ClampMan's powerful shot of water, and scrambled to grab more chips. Once he found a good one, he handed it to his uncle. ["Give him this, Uncle Jack!"] he exclaimed as Jack looked at the AquaNeedle chip. He slotted the chip into the PET as ClampMan scuttled mostly away from Spooky, reversing directions to make a zig-zag path back.

He got the notification of one of his more familiar chips being uploaded, and quickly put it to use as he rode out his pressurized state. He turned to the Spooky as his carapace continued to gurgle and bubble, then spat a burst of water skywards from his slat-shaped mouth. The pressurized water sailed towards the Spooky in a steep arc, and seemed to form into a stretched, almost needle-like shape when it hurtled towards the ground. He fired off two more bursts of water, which were noticeably smaller in size, and aimed towards the other golfer, instead of their spectral caddy. Their arcs were slightly more shallow than the first, since they had a longer distance to cover, but they too seemed to stretch into spear or needles of water, now aided by gravity to have them crash down upon its target, if his aim was true and said target didn't get out of the way.

Whether it was from the mistreatment of musical notes, or from not being invited to the game, something had severely gotten ClampMan's ire, and while his shout drew the attention of most of the viruses on the field, it was the irate Swordy that caught the brunt of the blast of water that followed. There was a beat of silence as they looked from ClampMan, to the space where the angry Swordy had been, then back to ClampMan.

Then the Melodies continued to wreak bouncing havoc; the one that had been thrown continued to dash towards CalmpMan of its own accord, though it was only by virtue of his own scuttling that its final bounce managed to not land directly on him. Meanwhile, the one furthest off gave up on its broken club caddy, bounced forward to vindictively flatten the two golf balls into the ground, then made a bee-line towards the green. The spooky couldn't seem to decide whether it was more interested in chasing the escaped clubs, or paying attention to ClampMan, presumably for rinsing one of its employers, but the pressurised navi saved it the decision with a follow up needle of water that crashed down over it and washed the spook away.

The other two needles struck down against the remaining swordy, who weathered the blows, then faced CalmpMan, warped towards him, grabbed hold other stem of the nearby Melody and swiped at him with it. The attack missed, and the Melody struggled out of its grasp, bouncing once between them, then backwards to land on ClampMan himself, then forward again to land on, and flatten utterly, the Swordy virus. It sat where it was for a moment, looking down at the crushed viral remains, then made a noise down towards them that sounded like a discordant trill, but couldn't really be mistaken for anything other than blowing a raspberry at the former golfer.

Despite taking a small hit, it didn't seem like any of the remaining notes were expressly hostile towards him. Mostly, the two nearest just seemed pleased that they weren't being man-handled any more. Before ClampMan could fully decide what to do about this situation, however, a screech and a small, high-pitched shriek merged from the far side of the fairway, between the trees.

It came from what looked like a small golf buggy, complete with an assortment of clubs and other golfing paraphernalia in the back, bouncing around, piloted by a particularly small woman with white fur and long ears, who seemed to behaving a deal of trouble controlling the vehicle. It veered, then came to a halt as it crashed into a tree. Fortunately, the tree didn't seem badly hurt.

"Ack... why do they even make me drive this thing.... I'm faster on foot anyway!" Clambering out, ClampMan could see that the girl bore mostly rabbit-like features, but was dressed in a diamond-patterend golfing vest an matching trousers. she turned to retrieve something else from the back of the cart, showing a small set of stylised wings on the back of her vest, sewn from red threads, and a long black ribbon that had been tied into the hair at the back of her head, with a large red ball of fuzz on the end. The item she retrieved was a wicker-work basket and she darted across the fairway much faster than the golf buggy had been moving, to stand around behind ClampMan.

"Holiday gift bunny! Enjoy your— Oh, drat." Her blue-eyed gaze had turned to see the mystery data crystal already waiting for ClampMan at the hole and she winced, looking back and ducking her head. "Battlers without and Battlers between, those are the rules... Hmm... Oh, I know!" As she chattered at him, he'd be able to see that the wicker basket contained a large quantity of miniature green data crystals. "If you wrap this up quickly, then you'll be between and I can give you your present. What've you got... Aww, melodies! I love Melodies! They're so cute!! Aren't you just adorable!" This last was directed at the two, now vaguely confused-looking Melodies closest to them both. "Hey, you can clean them up or send them somewhere safe if they're calm about it, I'll just stand back until your done, ok? Good luck!" She darted back a few steps, waving with a bright grin and settled to wait patiently.

ClampMan was still fuming a bit, but his torrent of water-based attacks did well to blow off some proverbial steam, causing the Navi to visibly calm down. His body lowered back down to the ground as he adopted a slightly more normal stance, but he still eyed the Melodies warily and snapped his metallic claws.

The noise coming from the trees caught the crustacean's attention, to which he reacted by pivoting in place with a flurry of choppy leg movements so he could face the noise directly. He also reflexively brought his oversized right claw up in front of his carapace, and peered through the gap between his vicegrip-like pincers.

He continued to watch the oddly designed girl, and reacted to her rapid approach by rearing up slightly, then waved his claws in attempted intimidation. "Ey! You want some too?" he sputtered more or less at the same time as the program's introduction. However, his frenetic snapping and claw waiving slowed as she looked back, then started to chatter at him. While Jack and Danny watched on with more confusion than suspicion, ClampMan's darting eyes and still raised carapace made it seem like he wasn't convinced.

["So 'send them somewhere safe'?"] Danny thought aloud, then looked at their chips. One chip stood out, which he grabbed after reaching across his uncle's arm. ["This might work, or just delete 'em!"] he exclaimed and handed the chip over. Jack shrugged in an "alright, here goes nothing" sort of expression, and slotted the chip in.

ClampMan got the notification of the chip's upload, followed by Danny's voice. ["Hey ClampMan, use this against the Melodies! It'll either delete 'em or drive 'em off."] This caused the crab Navi's 'threatening' display to pause briefly. So far the basket-holding program wasn't as threatening as the Melodies, so ClampMan burbled "Well, alright then..." and started to turn in place. He paused mid-turn, gave one last 'intimidating' wave of his right claw as he shot a glance at the bunny girl, then completed his turn to face the Melodies.

He then activated the chip, which caused a long line of dark clouds to appear overhead, seemingly from out of nowhere. The storm front then marched forward and dropped down to only a few dozen feet above the ground, then released a torrential downpour. The storm clouds continued to slowly make their way towards the Melodies, with the hopes of driving or clearing the Melodies away. ClampMan watched the clouds and their intended targets, and prepared to scuttle away if the bouncing viruses chose leap in his direction rather than fall back to avoid the drenching rains.

If any of the Melodies weren't driven back or deleted by the storm clouds, ClampMan, who finally started to process the bunny program's request, slowly scurried behind the line of storms and waved his claws in an attempt to intimidate and shoo away the Melodies. He raised his body to full height, while still able to move, so his legs looked more akin to stilts than crab-like legs.

If he was unnerved by the peculiar arrival's chatter, ClampMan nevertheless sorted out the most pressing priorities first. the cloud he summoned up was dark and intimidating, and the two nearest melodies looked up at it as it formed. Once the rain started, they both tried to bounce away, but went in opposite directions, crashing into each other firmly and falling back, just as the storm drenched them both, leaving nothing behind in its passage. further back, the remaining Melody squeaked a startled note then bounced in a rush around ClampMan, giving the crab-like virus a wide berth, to huddle, most strangely, behind the bunny girl, peeking out from behind her diminutive form with a few extra worried trills. Prose raised her hands a little to look down at it, brow furrowed, and then grinned.

"Don't worry, I know what we can do with you, little guy... Hold still." She snapped her fingers, causing a faint green glow to surround the fingertips on that hand, then patted it on the head. The virus froze, then a lace-work of data-lines filtered through it in a cross-hash, before its data shot away in a thin stream, disappearing to who knew where after a few feet. She glanced its way briefly, then turned back to ClampMan with a grin and a wink, tilting her head slightly as she did.

"All sorted! go on, go get your rewards, then I can give you your present!" She bounced on her toes, seemingly excited by the prospect of handing out extra rewards, but was being firm about waiting until he'd completely resolved the current battle situation. On the bright side, it was more or less resolved now, with just the rewards for the fight to claim.

Open GMD?

ClampMan pivoted and continued to wave his claws in what he believed to be a threatening manner as the Melody bounced around him, but paused from the sight of the virus seeking cover behind the bunny program, like a frightened child. He didn't say anything, but his mouth continued to bubble slightly from the built-up pressure as he watched the girl "tend to" the Melody.

His carapace canted slightly to the side to seemingly get a better view of the program's odd way of whisking the virus away, then squared back up on the bunny girl. His eyes narrowed while his stalk-like eyebrows twitched, still not entirely trusting of the girl; she did just make a virus disappear with a mere touch, after all. "Hrm..." he apprehensively muttered to himself before he quickly scuttled off to the closest data packet.

He made a point to keep his eyes on the bunny after stopping at each data packet, then he slowly picked up each bit with his small left claw before scampering over to the next bit of glowing zenny data. He was finally left with just the GMD, towards which he glanced upwards. ["What's that?] Jack asked his nephew and pointed towards the glowing green polygon above the flag. ["Oh, that's a Mystery Data! It can hold zenny and stuff, but you don't know unless you open it..."] Danny responded and started to trail off in thought, then snapped back with an "aha!" moment ["Like a treasure chest!"] he proclaimed, proud of himself for finding a comparison for someone who he thinks is essentially a pirate. I mean, his uncle has a boat, has a first mate (ClampMan), tells good stories, drinks a lot...

Though the only thing even remotely comparable to "treasure hunting" involved accidentally catching odds and ends in his nets, the mention of treasure caused a wide grin to grow on Jack's face. ["Ya hear that, Mister Bubbles? Treasure! Ripe for the takin'!"] he proclaimed with a laugh, then suddenly quieted down with a guilty realization and looked over his shoulder, hoping his sister-in-law wasn't summoned by the noise and angrily staring back.

Meanwhile, ClampMan looked up at the flag, which stood taller than him. He tried to lift his carapace up to full height, getting on his proverbial "tip toes" and reached out with his massive claw in an attempt to gently clamp down and pluck the glowing object down. If worse came to worst, he tried to use his right four legs to crawl up the side of the slightly flexible flag while the others kept him braced to the ground, so he could reach out from his side.

Regardless of how he obtained the GMD, once in his claws and comfortably settled back down to normal height, he attempted to open it.

((Open GMD))
While ClampMan collected his spoils, his occasional cautious, vaguely suspicious glances towards the newcomer elicited small waves each time. her grin weathered his suspicion well enough, after all, it was understandable since he didn't know her, and she'd apparently shown up out of no-where to give free gifts... a certain measure of caution was understandable. The bunny-girl kept her distance while he accessed the mystery data on top of the flag; by the time he had brought it down to a more comfortable height, it was already beginning to unravel, and delivered a string of chip data to the waiting navi. It seemed to be a chip that he would have a decent affinity for as well, better luck.

Once the data had finished resolving, ClampMan heard a small clapping sound behind him, and if he looked would find that his temporary companion had closed the gap between them with almost alarming speed, though he hadn't actually seen her move. She was clapping her hands together and bouncing on her toes.

"Great! All done, that was lucky. Would have been a hassle if it was a sneaky one... but you're in the clear now, so I can give you this!" Unheeding of ClampMan's caution or hesitancy, she rifled in her wicker basket, pulling out one of the small green crystals and flipped it out onto the ground beside them. It rapidly unfolded, expanding into a full-sized mystery data crystal, which she then poked with one finger. "Good luck!" She half-giggled as she did. As the crystal spun around, however, she leaned over and whispered in a faux-conspiratorial tone. "Don't worry, hehe, this one is safe, I promise." Sure enough, once it finished spinning, the second data crystal released a second set of data to ClampMan, another chip, though this one seemed to be of the opposite element to the first. The girl hopped back and resettled her basket, then tilted her head with a grin and waved.

"All done! Enjoy your seasonal gift! Sorry it took me so long to get to you. Been busy this year. Stay safe, ok! Bye for now!" Without really giving the crab-like navi much further chance to respond, she winked at him, then darted away, making for the nearest tree-line before disappearing from sight between the woods.

ClampMan extended his right claw away from his body and tried to vainly shield himself as the GMD unraveled. Though described as a "treasure chest," the crustacean held it at arms length as if it was going to possibly explode and closed his eyes. He finally opened them once the light died down, and received a notification that he was holding chip data. He moved the data packet closer to his face, then seemed to show a more pleased expression and downloaded the chip data then started to turn in place.

"Huh, well that was somethin' now -GAH!" his commentary was cut short by the sudden close proximity of his odd quasi-ally, which prompted him to snap his claws and rear up again defensively. The Navi's smile and demeanor caused him to briefly calm down. "Jeez, why do ya insist on gettin' in my personal space?!" he accosted the Navi as she went through her basket. ["I think she's just being friendly, ClampMan,"] Danny chimed in, attempting to calm ClampMan down. He'd noticed there were many other GMDs in the basket, and didn't want the Navi's unintentional rudeness to cost him the "gift" the bunny Navi mentioned.

ClampMan was still slow to trust, but he settled down to slightly more casual stance by the time Prose produced the GMD, which opened up to reveal another battlechip packet. ClampMan's eyes didn't seem to decide on focusing on the GMD or the girl, even when she said her goodbyes and left. He waved his claw as she darted away, but this time it looked more like he was returning her wave than being "threatening." After she disappeared, he crawled towards the chip data, and picked it up with his left claw before he downloaded it to the PET.

["Well, that was... strange. Do random bunnies give you stuff all the time?"] Jack commented, then looked to Danny. The boy shook his head. ["Never seen her before, Uncle Jack."] Jack leaned back and took another sip of his drink then looked back down at the PET. ["Well, wanna keep goin? I'm curious how these new chip thingamajigs work."] ClampMan looked around, then glanced up towards the pair's point of view. "I guess so, not sure where to next..."

Danny furrowed his brow in thought, then made his suggestion. ["Try going that way,"] he said as he pointed forward and over the table. ClampMan's eyes narrowed, he'd heard of some vague directions in his day, but that one took the cake. All he could do was roughly approximate where Danny meant by eyeballing the direction of his pointing in relation to where he was. Regardless, he scuttled off in that-ish direction, not sure what else he'd find.
