Home Field Advantage

With her rest complete and some heavy thoughts on her mind, Terra moved away from the cave and continued her journey through Yumland's rogue nets. The rocky beach climbed swiftly upwards, just a short way beyond the cave entrance and soon she found herself striding along an ever-climbing cliff edge, looking out across the sea of mud on her left. The cliffs were a pale white chalk, but a layer of thick loamy soil supported a vibrant field of short, dewy grass on the hill side that rolled down and away from the far side of the sheer cliff.

Occasional chalky protrusions of stone broke up through the grass in places, and though the edge near the drop was mostly flat, the slope grew steep swiftly as it descended to her right. The air had grown cool, with just a faint taste of mist and rain to it, and the sky was clouding over with dark grey. A little further ahead, Terra could see a place where the cliff jutted out to a fairly severe precipice, before changing direction to the right, and a shape stood out at the edge. A little closer, and she could make the shape out as another monsoon virus, its broad hat tilted up as it watched the incoming storm while its robes swirled in the breeze.

Before she could get any closer to it, however, another shape leapt up swiftly onto one on the chalk rocks nearby, looking out of place with a fire-wreathed body and a vaguely draconic appearance. An extra circle of flame washed around it once as it made a threatening sound in her direction. The sound elicited more rustling and shuffling from behind some of the other exposed chalk chunks, and the distraction was enough for Terra to notice, a little further ahead and to her right, a patch of the grass overcome by a small pool of toxic-looking sludge, presided over by another of her bounty targets.

MonsoonMonsoon (Storm)

Storm loosely resemble the Weather line, and may in fact be a distant off-shoot of them. They wear metal hats that loosely resemble straw hats. Their faces are mostly nondescript, aside from their always closed eyes, and beak-like nose. They have no visible mouth, though from somewhere beneath their nose, they appear to be chewing on a bamboo shoot. Their bodies appear to be simple gowns, decorated with swirls. This virus is normally no more or less aggressive than most viruses, but if the enemy is using exclusively/near exclusively Shot or Thrown type attacks, it will attack more frequently, knowing that its attack will help protect it from them.

Kilby viruses try to stay at least 3 panels away from their enemy at all times, and dodge back and forth constantly. Kilby viruses only attack once per turn, and when they do, they teleport to a position flanking their target, and stab them with a Bamboo Lance. This lance strikes at Long Sword range, and may hit two targets at once. After attacking, they teleport back to the panel they were standing upon when they first began their attack sequence. They are mindlessly oblivious to the hazards of terrain. Kilby Omega viruses attack differently. Instead of attacking from the side, they attack 3 separate targets from behind with Bamboo Lance. EarthJelly2EarthJelly2 (EarthJelly)

EarthJelly are floating, jellyfish-like viruses, that seem to simply float nonchalantly, yet are deceptively difficult to combat. Fortunately, their rarity ensures they they never appear before a Battle 6, and there are never more than 2 in a single battle. While their horizontal movement is terrible at best, they can easily adjust their altitude as needed. By default, however, they tend to hover a couple of feet above the ground. The exception to this is when they attack. EarthJelly attack by launching large waves of mud at enemies The attack cycle of EarthJelly is 2 actions long. It requires one action to charge before firing. If they are stunned or otherwise temporarily disabled, they resume their attack cycle where it was halted once the stun wears off. When they attack, they drop to the ground in order to pump out as much liquid as possible. This allows them to harness the power of certain kinds of terrain to boost their attacks, but it also makes them immobile and vulnerable to ground-based attacks for the duration.

-=Rogue Battle 1, Re-Start!=-
Having mostly been walking on dirt for most of the time before she headed out, Terra's mood was lightened as she found a decently continuous pathway of soft grass. The greenery seemed to thicken slightly as she walked through, as if padding her footfalls. The upgrades that she had received seemed to increase her ability to draw upon the earth's energy in an instant, and so she was slowly gathering energy as she walked to get a feel for her throughput. As she had nothing to use it on, for the moment she simply allowed it to leak back out, with the grass she "fertilized" even creeping up as vines on the chalk spires that jutted up from the earth. The air felt pleasant in her breaths, as she drew in a deep inhale.

A few steps further, however, and she could sense something manipulating it against the wind. The energy she had been taking in quickly re-circulated around herself, drawing a faint green color from the grass under her feet to form her usual barrier and under-armor. It surprised even herself with how fast she got it back up, but she quickly re-focused on what had got her to put it up in the first place. The Monsoon virus, perched high upon the precipice, seemed to have the air swirl about it unnaturally as it looked out from the edge of the cliff. The Dragrin that leapt onto one of the chalk formations elicited a quick glance from her, and the other three entrances needed no such introduction, as the vibrations across the earth alerted her to their presence, though it didn't really look like the Jellyfish virus was trying to hide itself at all.

"Any chips in particular that you want, Terra?" asked Scarlet, having already sighted the viruses as well.

"I'll leave it to you," said Terra, as she focused on one of the spires that one of the viruses was hiding behind, before vanishing into thin air. Scarlet took to operating immediately, selecting three chips that would be sure to be familiar to Terra by now.

As usual, Terra reappeared quickly, flanking the enemy as soon as she could. Behind the Kilbur, she was kneeling down, with a raised fist above her head covered in steel. She struck the exposed chalkstone beneath her powerfully with the steel fist from the side, punching open a large hole in the cliff's surface by dislodging a chunk of it into the air. The punch directed the chunk of white chalkstone into a crash course for the EarthJelly. Meanwhile, the steel spread out across her body rapidly, while cracks snaked out from the hole throughout the chalkstone.

The grass that she had grown earlier bent to her will, and sank into the earth, regrowing around her vigorously as if to protect her, while a deep roar came from the hole she had punched in the ground. Twin serpentine dragons rose explosively from the hole, hued in green and blue as they intertwined with each other. They would not last long together, however, as they rose high into the air, and split into three identical copies each, rushing out towards each of Terra's enemies with fervor.

Peaceful walks and relaxing meditative energy manipulation had to give way to a more focused combat, unfortunately, though the sudden aggression of the Dragin in particular seemed to catch the geomancer's far-off thoughts a little more off-guard than she was probably comfortable with. Her usual defences rose to meet the sudden burst of flame it expelled at her from its stony perch, but the initial reaction was far too ill-suited to the attack it was meant to face. A unfortunate combination of the grass beneath her, her own natural inclinations and the surprisingly fast ambush assault left Terra very badly burned in an instant, her defences torn through in a flash.

It was more than enough to cast her back into full fighting seriousness, however, and she disappeared a moment later, leaving a second virus, one of the Killby-types, stabbing at empty air where she had been. When she reappeared behind its partner, the second Kilbur let out a startled squeak and hurriedly tried to dart back and away from her, over the rock, but Terra wasn't focused on that particular virus just yet.

Instead, a quick shuffle of the elemental alignments beneath her saw most of the grass on the hillside around her scoured away to white stone, while the previously exposed chalk outcroppings were instead covered in fresh growth. Terra raised a more serious defence; one that would prove truly impenetrable for the viruses around her. Thus, when the Monsoon turned to follow her position, tipped its broad hat and rushed her, the gale of its tearing wind storm did nothing at all to faze the impervious navi. It halted, winds whirling, then backed off again more cautiously to watch her. The Dragrin was less cautious, spurred by its earlier success and, it had to be said, a lack of wisdom at the best of times. It attempted to bathe Terra in another fire burst, but this time, despite scorching the grass beneath her, it had no effect at all on Terra herself.

The nature-navi was more focused with other matters anyway, for now, and tore up two large chunks of the grass before her to send them flying towards the Jelly that was still in the process of its usual charge-routine. One advantage of hunting a particularly over-populated virus like this did meant that their behaviours often got very predictable.

Both chunks crashed into its large body, making it wobble in the air, before dropping down to expel a familiar wave of mud and debris across the hillside. Terra, of course, was unaffected by this. The other viruses on the hillside couldn't claim the same sense of safety and while the wave missed the Monsoon, and the two Kilbur viruses just barely managed to dodge past it as it washed outwards, the Dragrin was blasted in the side by the wave of mud. Served it right.

Still focused on the gap she'd ripped up in the hillside, Terra summoned forth her other commonly called-upon allies, and as the dragons roared upwards and split off, the viruses were left in a panic of confusion. The two Kilburs were promptly eaten, and though the Dragrin and the Monsoon both managed to avoid the attentions of the windy dragon, each of them suffered a final punishment at the jaws of its icy counterpart. As the two spirits faded away, Terra was alone again, hurt from that one unlucky shot, but otherwise victorious.

Despite being charred with the Dragrin's attack, Terra seemed entirely unfazed, as the burnt parts of her under-armor fell off into pieces, leaving her relatively unscathed. The restorative processes would be a bit slow, but she stood tall, looking up at the greyed skies, and walking over to where the Monsoon had stood earlier. Looking down from the edge, it seemed to be nothing but mud at the bottom. "Need another break?" said Scarlet. The voice rang inside Terra's head for a few seconds, but it didn't seem to register until a few seconds later, when she replied, "No," and leapt off from the edge of the cliff down towards whatever terrain was below.

"Terra?!"

[Rogue Battle 2 - Ready. Bounty Set: EarthJelly2: 270 HP.]
[Terra.EXE: 60HP.]
After a moment of contemplation at the high edge of the cliff, and the rolling storm clouds above that stretched out over the vast mud plain below, Terra decided that BASE jumping had become the order of the hour and launched herself out from the edge. The rising breeze from the cliff along with her own leap carried her out further from the edge of the land. The shore below was also abrupt in its ending, with the cliffs plunging more or less directly into the mud pool below, and so Terra found herself, likely as she expected and her operator did not, splashing down safely into what was an already deep expanse.

The cool dark fluid washed over and embraced her, soothing earlier burns as she was enveloped by it. Her actual eyes were rendered mostly useless below the surface as she was, more than a body length or two deep, but her other senses were alight with the land around her and the natural richness of the earth liquid, waiting to spring to life.

In the moments before she struck, Terra had also caught the sense of more creatures about her splash point. Two in the mud itself, and more hovering above it. Submerged as she was, she could only now feel the wiggling form of a muckfeesh worming its way through the mud somewhere off to her left, while dead ahead of her a short distance, another jellyfish was resting on the surface. There really were a lot of them in this particular area, it seemed, and even if this area had been a mud plain before, they had certainly contributed to its vast spread; there was little doubt of that now.

The other viruses she'd noted, just before hitting the surface, had been a pair of CrazyRazy platforms, hovering above the mud and spinning about occasionally with what seemed like only a very tentative amount of control. there had been a virus riding each on as well, though she hadn't had the time to see it clearly, though an impression of green and red came to mind. There had also been a small sparkle of blue, somewhere to her right as she dropped in.

"Really, if you wanted to just dive in like that, you could give me some kind of heads up first..." sighed Scarlet.

"It's more exciting if it's spontaneous," replied Terra's voice, as her senses expanded out from the mud. There were definitely some enemies in her vicinity, and her entrance was sure to rouse them against her. Scarlet saw them on her display as well, albeit in less clear terms than how Terra saw them. Regardless of how strong the enemies were, Terra herself was in less than excellent shape, but that was easily solved with one of her chips.

"I've sent you the Shadow, Terra. Which chip set do you want for these?" said Scarlet, scoping out the virus data put out by the inbuilt scanner. From Terra's current position, she was able to read out a Mudfeesh variant, as well as one of the Jellyfish. There were sure to be more lurking, however, as the Rogue network layer not only hosted stronger viruses, but in more numerous amounts as well. There was also a reading for a mystery data crystal bobbing about in the mud pool, though she wondered whether it would survive one of Terra's usual destructive onslaughts.

"I'll take GravityHold and MudWave," came Terra's reply. A safe bet, Scarlet thought, with the chips being inputted one by one. As soon as she finished sending in the chips, Terra broke out onto the surface of the mud plains. Her body was not its usual human form, but a large, dark human-shaped blob of mud. Two green points of light shone as eyes as it lifted a fingerless arm and swung it horizontally, slinging off part of its mud to the side. The mystery data crystal's blue glow was then suddenly shut out by the brown muck that rapidly coated it and hardened into earth almost immediately. The hardened mud was then covered in a web of glowing green lines, protecting it with an energy barrier.

The mud-beast then swung its arm up, and slammed it down into the plains at its feet, sending out tremors that shook the air itself and forced all to the ground. The strike itself sent a blob of mud flying forward towards the large Jellyfish virus, but the real attack was yet to come. Immediately following the tremors, the mud plains all hardened at once around the mud-beast, expelling shards of earth imbued with energy towards every virus on the field. The newly-formed soil was then covered in a snaking web of green lines, exploding out in emerald light that bathed the entire area. When the light receded, a field of grass extended out in every direction.

Quick on her feet and of thought, Terra would activate her chip in an attempt to prevent her from damage, her body a shadow of its former self as she single handedly castrated every virus in the vicinity and their attempts to damage her, as well as placing upon the BMD a nice set of defenses. A quick attack from one of the CrazyRazy's would confirm the virus' and their suspicions of what Terra was now...completely and utterly invulnerable to attack. The Muckfeesh was second to try and unsuccessfully attack Terra, passing through her body like a cold jelly, and whist the mud dried out from under where she stood, she launched an attack at the EarthJelly2, the gravity well that she created began to slowly consume the field in front of her, mud nearly hardening from it's pulse as the mudball she created nearly whiffed the Jellyfish, the virus soon completely under the effects the chip had, squishing it down like a pancake. The second CrazyRazy would immediately begin to move above the field, seeking a way, any way, to attack the navi as the virus atop it lay dormant for the moment, scouting the field below it.

Then came the waves of mud. Oh dear GOD the waves of mud! Every virus, sans the Applesamus that were carried above the CrazyRazies as they were happily nestled in their apple armors, were immediately swamped and drowned in the mud sans the EarthJelly, it just barely held on by a single bit of health. Every bit of mud disappearing from the field as it all transformed into a thick, lush soil. The AppleSamus immediately cracking out of their shells to spit seeds at Terra, only the seeds phased through her into the distance. Then, they too, were swamped beneath the endless mud that Terra the Terror had up her sleeves, drowning in the exact same way as their comrades had been taken care of. Viruses deleted and the BMD miraculously unharmed from the battle and her own explosive waves of muddy goodness, Terra was able to claim her cashe of data and the spoils of battles.

Area: Yumland

HP: 270
Attack Damage/Effect: 70 Wood + Ground Attack + Wide Attack + Mud Terrain Boost 40 + 1 action charge

Open BMD: Y/N?
With all of the viruses buried under the grassy knoll that she had created, Terra's mud body sank into the earth, revealing her human form directly underneath. She exhaled briefly, before heading over to the Mystery Data crystal and placing her hand over it.

With a small sigh of relief at the data's safe decryption, Terra drew her fingers through her hair, and shook some of the bits of mud that had stuck to it. Looking around at the grassy area around her, she then turned to Scarlet. "I think I've let out enough. Thanks for putting up with me, Scarlet," she said.

Scarlet smiled as she propped her chin on her hand. "It's alright. If you have anything on your mind, you can just talk to me, alright?" she said. Terra paused for a moment, before nodding, and walking along the path out from the jungle area. As she was walking, she reached into her shorts' pocket, and drew out a piece of paper. Upon it, a tally mark numbering up to 8 was written. Time to turn them in, she thought, as she walked into a network transfer.
