Training The BeastOUT Within

Gripping his racket SP decisively, Tennisman started off the offensive as the viruses also did the same. The Satellites began their comprehensive search of the entire battlefield for Tennisman's signature, while the Craggers started bashing the ground rather smashingly. It wasn't too accurate, and Tennisman managed to move out of the way while he charged up his Magnum shells. The IronGuard started blasting bombs everywhere, but Tennisman was too close to it, and none of the bombs really hit much anywhere. Afterwards, Magnum made quick work of the Craggers, while the IronGuard's shield proved useless against the heavy shell shock, deleting it as well. Finally, two of the Satellites had a lock on Tennisman, shot up into the air, and let loose their hail of boolets. (88 to Deuce/72 to Tennisman)

"Ugh," the racket spat, erecting a small force field, "I knew those Satellites were going to be trouble. Tennisman! You're not moving fast enough! Dodge them!"

The attacks from the viruses were much more accurate than he had expected and he wasn't used to being assaulted in such a coordinated effort. He didn't know how to deal with the group and wondered if it would be better to take them all out at once somehow or pick them off individually. Whatever he decided, he would need to choose quickly as the Satellites were readying themselves for another volley.

"Airstorm?" Desmond suggested, "Pull em in and waste em like that?"

Tennisman considered that to be a sign as he nodded and opted for the quick group strategy in accordance with his operator's wishes. An inward sweep of his blade drew in air currents from all around him, focussing directly in front of the Satellites. The wind picked up to create a sudden a powerful vacuum before culminating in a trio of small vortexes. Deuce was too busy repairing himself to offer any insight or strategy.

"HeatBreath." He added, drawing in a breath of the cold Sharo air.

While his targets were still in range, he exhaled a burst of flame that reached out far ahead of him, scorching the grass with fiery tendrils. He knew their counter-attack would come fast and he braced himself to parry their attacks but also kept himself mobile at Deuce's earlier request.

He took note of the devasted panels where his Magnum had landed and with a flash of insight, dashed his way across the fragile terrain, purposely attempting to crumble them.

"Dude. DUDE. DUDE! WATCH WHERE YOU'RE GOING!" Desmond barked in a panic.

"SummonBlack2." Tennisman replied, making sure there was at least one hole for his chip to take effect from.

"Ohh! Damn. You smart." praised his operator before slotting in the chip.

Tennisman left his black doppleganger to its own devices as he set up a device of his own. Pressing his palm to the ground, Tennisman brought up a tennis net to hide behind, though he wasn't entirely sure how much cover it would provide against an orbital attack.

With Deuce and Tennisman both on damage control mode, the Satellites continued their sweep of the area just as Tennisman started pulling them in with an AirStorm attack. As Tennisman reared his head to blast them with heated breaths, the Satellites locked on to him to start firing, only to be melted into little bits of metal. The fight was then declared over. Oh, and Tennisman healed, too.

"WOO HOO! CHIP!" exclaimed Desmond.

Tennisman was quick to analyze it and announce, "IronShield2."

His operator seemed to lose his enthusiasm upon hearing the name and whimpered, "...Oh."

"Is something wrong?" his navi asked.

"It's just... I... I dunno, you're kinda beefy with defense so I was hoping for a... A Cragger punch or orbital cannon or something." Desmond answered.

Deuce was quick to offer a solution, "Well, you can always sell it. Zenny is useful."

"Yeah, that's probably what I'll do." Desmond sighed, "Anyways, I'm reworking Fifteen's design. Gonna make an umpire."

"How is that going to work?" Deuce quipped.

"I said I'm working on it!" snapped Desmond.

((Battle 7))
Tennisman's expedition through the Rogue Sharo network brought the team of two to a rather large lake or sea of some sort, with its shore frayed with bits of snow, obscuring the sand underneath. At first sight, a few small icebergs could be seen floating out on the sea. However, on closer inspection, only one of them looked to be actual icebergs, and that the other were huge fat Puffy viruses. On the actual iceberg was stationed a few ElecMechs. Also on the snowy beach was a lone BombWork.

-ROGUE BATTLE SEVEN, FIGHT!!-
As Tennisman and Deuce tightened up their defenses, Desmond couldn't help by ask, "Are you going to use your BeastOUT NOW?"

Looking over the enemies, Tennisman decidedly answered, "No. Remotebit."

"Balls, I was hoping for something cool..." relented his operator, slotting in the chip.

Tennisman was quick to summon his control tower directly behind him, watching that the viruses wouldn't hit it before it managed to do its job. He recognized the BombBoy virus but not the other two. He wasn't sure how to proceed but figured the best defense was a good offense. Judging by their location and appearance, he ventured a guess that the Puffys were aqua element. He sent his Remotebit satellite over to their location and charged in with his racket raised.
Splashing onto the water, he called for another chip, "ElecShock."

A crash of thunder from above synchronized with the lightning escaping his mouth. Raw electricity cackled over the sea ahead, somehow destabilizing and destroying the water as it touched down. He only focussed his attack on two of the Puffys, letting his Remotebit handle the third one. As the last sparks exited his lips, he turned to face the strange mechanical viruses on the iceberg. Not wanting to deal with them just yet, he attempted a stall tactic, ordering, "Bubblestar."

A spray of bubbles followed a swing of his racket, spreading out towards the virus trio. The attack drifted slowly but Tennisman hoped they would be too restricted on their little island to dodge effectively. He finally directed his full attention to the BombWork, eager to take it out before it summoned too many bombs. Wading a few steps closer to the virus, he quickly made two simple serves to dispatch its handiwork before seriously delivering a full volley of tennis balls at his target.

"...Watch your back." warned Desmond.

Tennisman nodded and further bolstered his awareness to compensate for the lull in his defenses.

TennisMan and Deuce began their battle by covering themselves with defenses and placing the remotebit behind them. The radio controlled satellite buzzed over the first Buffy and fried the poor fish alive, but this gave the other the Buffies to open fire at the occupied navi. Two shots made it through and it was simply blocked off...However, the attacks carried over to Deuce and broke through the defense to deal a hefty damage on to the racket.

The next ElecShock deleted one more Buffy, unable to reach the other Buffy who was a bit too far away from the shore. The BombWork generated a small bomb and began to push it towards TennisMan while the ElecMechs fired some of their thunderballs as well. Relying on his defense, the navi stood his ground as he retaliated with his BubbleStar, trading blows with the ElecMechs as his attack trapped one virus and a single thunderball struck.

BombWork enthusiastically pushed its bomb closer and closer to his target...but Deuce and TennisMan had other plans as they easily destroyed the bomb and countered with a swift Ace Serve.

"Hey, can we... Take a break?" Deuce huffed with a bit of a haggard breath.

Tennisman looked at his sword and noticed the surprising amount of damage that had accumulated on the blade. Heavily rusted marks and dents lined the edge, likely due to Tennisman using it for his own self-defense. Though he was concerned for Deuce's well-being, he knew that his support program could handle himself. As expected, Deuce began to repair his own injuries by wrapping the blade with a streak of cloth stretching out from the handle. An odd interpretation of his Restring program, the cloth went from a deep black to becoming transparent before adhering perfectly to the shape of the sword. Tennisman gave a mental nudge to his Remotebit to attack the other Puffy before drawing closer to the BombWork. The satellite was already in range and unleashed the lightning bolt

He wanted to finish it off in a single attack but had practically nothing that would do that, forcing him to request two chips instead of one, "Kunai and Heatbreath."

With a few rapid flicks of his hand, a chain of daggers were launched at the virus, seemingly deployed from a hidden compartment under his wrist. After the third kunai was released, Tennisman darted back to a optimal position to maximize the range on his Heatbreath, having made a note of how far it usually reached. He wanted to catch the Bombwork in the widest part of the blast and quickly spat a rolling wave of fire that melted the snow in an instant and seared the floor below it. The fluffy white patch was converted into a red puddle of lava in an instant while steam and mist hung the air and masked the fate of the virus. Tennisman had no time to wait for the cloud to dissipate and made an optimistic assumption. He spun around and stabbed Deuce into the ground, prompting the ground to flicker as he integrated with the terrain programs.

"Court Change," Tennisman said, "Grass court."

Rising up from the aquatic depths, seaweeds and other vegetation sprang up, creating a wet path leading to the ElecMechs. As the change reached the viruses, the iceberg began to crack and shatter, giving way to the grass in some sort of overgrowth. The ground eventually evened out into a normal looking tennis court but its generation was a terrifying display of mother nature's brutality. Not giving it much thought, Tennisman plucked the support program from the ground and ran across the fat bridge to re-engage the Elecmechs. He wasn't sure how much longer the bubble would last and wanted to take out the virus inside first.

"Elecpulse!" The navi ordered, pressing his palm to the viruses.

Waves of glitch inducing magnetism washed out from his fingertips towards the trapped virus. The other two viruses might have gotten caught by the wide-spread attack but they were not his concern at that particular moment. Only after the energy faded from his palm did he plan for the other viruses, opting to use fire to his advantage.

He quickly ordered, "Flameline."

The newly spawned grass burned away at the spontaneously combusting wall that burst out from beneath the Elecmechs, but it wouldn't be enough. Even as the fire increased in intensity, Tennisman could easily tell this fight wasn't over. He only barely managed to catch the flickering images of the viruses before adding a sudden "TwinFang!"

"What?" Desmond flopped, not reacting as fast as his navi.

Tennisman raised his buster and fired a blank. Waiting for the chip felt like it was taking too long but there was nothing he could do. He held Deuce to his side and prepared to swat away more of those electric spheres, but Desmond finally picked up the slack and slotted in the chip. Two ivory missiles pierced through the wall of fire before exploding with bursts of white shrapnel.

With his racket sword patching up his holes and one of his summoned objects blasting the Buffy to pieces, Tennisman was doing pretty well for himself. The BombWork got its work cut out for it, as its summoned bomb got a healthy dose of Kunai into it, along with its own body; subsequent use of HeatBreath ensured its death. The ElecMechs started firing out their thunderballs, three of which TennisMan parried away most easily. Then, a nice ElecPulse took care of one of the mechs as the ground beneath it turned to grass for some inexplicable reason. Flames toasted one of the other two, while TennisMan's TwinFangs hit soundly.

Having wiped out all but a single virus, Tennisman felt relief and was able to focus all of his attention to the single threat. The attacks it launched were pathetically weak, making him wonder if there was more to the virus than just that. He maintained his stalwart defenses as he decided to just finish it off quickly.

"Great! Pickpocket time!" Desmond cheered gleefully, slotting in the chip.

Giving a slight sigh, Tennisman summoned the virus to his side while reinforcing his defensive perimeter with a tennis net. The summoned Bandacoon congealed from the ambient particles of data floating around and immediately began to sniff the air diligently. There was only one possible target for it to steal from, giving it a clear goal. Without any additional orders, it scurried to the edge of the tennis net and went around the wide obstacle to its mark. With a quick lunge, the pudgy pseudovirus bared its agile little paws in preparation to steal something from the ElecMech.

"MarkCannon." Tennisman requested, just to be extra cautious with his attack.

The Remotebit took its time hovering over to the virus, allowing Tennisman to direct the satellite's movements with more coordination. Pushing and pulling it until he was certain it was directly overhead the ElecMech, Tennisman forcibly unleashed all of the weapon's remaining power. A grand bolt of lightning crashed down just as the Bandacoon finished its work and hurled itself away to avoid the all-out attack. With its energy completely depleted, the lights on the odd floating device flickered before giving out and crashing down as well. Tennisman let the MarkCannon track his target for him through the smoke from the shattered panel, not paying any attention to his returning thief. The MarkCannon round pierced a wide hole through the haze, practically clearing it from the landscape.

"Ehhh... Just to be safe." Desmond added before slotting in two more Binder chips.

Two more viruses appeared on the scene and quickly bounded over what was left of Tennisman's net while randomly hopping all over the small court. Letting the clean-up crew deal with the ElecMech, the navi was finally able to give his Bandacoon a proper welcome, giving it a gentle pat on the head.

The Bandcoon was summoned quickly, and bounded off to parts unknown. However, as it got to the ElecMech, its plan to steal some epik lootz was foiled when it got hacked in half by an annoyed virus. It then proceeded to do more useful things like not attack, and started attempting to dodge instead, rendering Tennisman's net rather useless. It evaded the RemoteBit and MarkCannon very easily. It did not, however, escape the Binder attack, though only two of the Binders hit at all.

The RemoteBit served its purpose fully, and disappeared as its charges were depleted.

Rendered speechless by the resilience of the virus, Tennisman was fairly certain at this point that there was no other trick or special ability that it was holding in reserve to save itself.

"Aw... The Bandacoon." Desmond sighed.

Deuce continued to repair himself as Tennisman bombarded the virus relentlessly with a series of serves. The strength of each strike seemed to die down significantly as he attacked as his interest in this fight had long since died.

"Another battle won without using your BeastOUT. You're on a roll." Deuce noted, "But I thought the whole reason we came here was to get some PRACTICE out of using it, not to hold back."

Tennisman gave his support program's words some thought and realized it was true. He wasn't training at all. He wasn't sure what he was doing and simply stopped in his tracks, his sense of purpose seemingly lost for a moment.

"Ah, don't feel so bad." consoled Desmond, "We got a lot of money. Let's go buy some stuff."

Tennisman stared at his own blackened form and ripped the ninja garb from his body and discarded it, revealing his normal white and teal outfit. At the same time, Deuce reverted back to a racket to match the navi.

"I was wondering when we'd be done with that ninja nonsense." quipped Deuce.

"I thought it was cool..." Desmond added before jacking out his programs from the network.
