In the middle of a boilingly-hot delta of lava rivers, a small transfer pad glowed briefly, before two humanoid shapes of light appeared on top of it. The silhouettes resolved into the earthbending duo of Terra and Carbide, who stepped out of the transfer pad. Terra seemed to revel in the energy of the area as she took a deep breath, and smiled vibrantly. "... The earth is alive," she said.

"It's super hot!" said Carbide, already showing a few droplets of sweat. "I guess we'll be looking for those Jelly things now?"
"... Yes, let's head out," said Terra, who went on ahead, following a barely visible pathway leading away from the transfer pad.

[Battle 1 - Ready. Bounty Set: HeatJelly.]
[Terra.EXE: 170 HP, Carbide.SP: 70 HP.]
As Terra and her partner walked into the area, an insane heat blasted their entire bodies from the backdraft of Furnace panels, the Metal under their feet a blazing hot temperature that would threaten to wilt the "delicate" flower of mother nature as she would quickly come across a small grouping of viruses that came about the area. A Spikey and Champu virus play fighting in the field of furnace panels near a red jellyfish looking virus, bobbing up and down as if caught in the waves of an invisible ocean current, moving back and forth, up and down in a strangely alluring fashion. A Quaker virus, annoyed by all the sand as it tried to get to a sizable patch of hard, concrete land, smashing between the Spikey and Champu, as an eerie looking shadow coalesced in a nearby missing panel, swinging it's shadowy blade and letting out a screech of anger as it saw the two walking up at the scene. The other three viruses standing at attention of the Nightmare's incoherent commands, all the while the HeatJelly would just continue to bob up and down...MEANINGLESSLY. Also, to the left and right of Terra and Carbide, a pair of large rocks that they could potentially use as cover.

-- Viruses --
SpikeySpikey (Spikey)

Spikey viruses are a little faster than the average virus, allowing them to cover more ground than normal with movements and dodges. They may attack while moving, but as normal, they cannot attack while dodging without expending a second action to do so. Spikey viruses are also able to use something called 'pack tactics' when 3 or more of them are present. Simply put, the Spikey viruses attack and dodge as a wolf pack. In addition, they are treated as having a reduced power Haste and Accuracy Enhancement effect which grants them a +5% bonus to evasion and accuracy while this effect is active. The effect is passive, and only expires when their numbers drop below 3.

Nightmares do not dodge, and they only move by teleporting before and after attacking an enemy. Nightmares have permanent Shadow, unless they are attacking. Teleporting before and after their attacks does not require an action. They will always end a turn while floating over Missing or Hole Terrain. If the Hole terrain is altered in any way, they will instantly teleport to unoccupied Missing Terrain. Nightmares cannot share ownership of a Missing Panel with other viruses that require Missing Terrain to be on the field. If for any reason there is not enough Missing Terrain to accommodate a Nightmare at the end of a turn, the Nightmare will Escape from the battle immediately.

HeatJellyHeatJelly (HeatJelly)

HeatJelly are floating, jellyfish-like viruses, that seem to simply float nonchalantly, yet are deceptively difficult to combat. Fortunately, their rarity ensures they they never appear before a Battle 6, and there are never more than 2 in a single battle. While their horizontal movement is terrible at best, they can easily adjust their altitude as needed. By default, however, they tend to hover a couple of feet above the ground. The exception to this is when they attack. HeatJelly attack by launching large waves of magma at enemies The attack cycle of HeatJelly is 2 actions long. It requires one action to charge before firing. If they are stunned or otherwise temporarily disabled, they resume their attack cycle where it was halted once the stun wears off. When they attack, they drop to the ground in order to pump out as much liquid as possible. This allows them to harness the power of certain kinds of terrain to boost their attacks, but it also makes them immobile and vulnerable to ground-based attacks for the duration.

"Uuuugh, it's so hooooot," complained Carbide, as she trudged through the heat-filled area, sweat pouring down her back and limbs. On her arm, she was carrying a large shield made out of solid rock, though from how she was holding it, she didn't seem encumbered by it in the slightest. In addition, despite the roaring heat, Carbide didn't seem to have any problem with running around with her bare feet, as she jogged about with just enough speed that none of the temperature really stuck to her soles. At times, however, one would wonder if she had something more to it. Terra walked next to her, looking rather concerned as she glanced occasionally towards Carbide, but was otherwise quiet, staying focused on the road ahead.

"Weren't you the one who picked this area?" asked Scarlet, as she finally decided on one of the dishes on her menu, settling for a light beef bowl dish.
Carbide groaned. "Yeah, but I wasn't expecting this kind of hellhole! I didn't even know what the hunting target was!"
"Sounds like some good decision-making. I'm surprised that Terra seems to be fine, though, she's wearing a lot more than you are."
"Yeah, that's actually really weird! Why is that, Terra?"

Terra raised an eyebrow at the mention of her name, looking down at her attire of a leotard, shorts, and well-secured gloves and boots. She was still exposing a decent amount of skin, yet not a single drop of sweat seemed to be on her body. "... I'm not sure why, exactly, but I've experienced temperatures hotter than this, so maybe I'm just desensitized to it. Producing those lava pools isn't simple."

"Hmm... That kind of makes sense," mulled over Carbide. Almost immediately, however, she hunched over, her ears appearing to almost emit smoke. "Doesn't change the fact that I'm feeling super cooked here, though... Hm? What's that over there?"

Terra stopped in her tracks to see what Carbide had pointed out. In front of them, a collection of viruses appeared to be grouped together, mostly looking like a ragtag collection of vagabonds. However, one of the group members seemed to pique Scarlet's curiosity, as she watched the girls through a visual link. "Isn't that a jellyfish?" she commented.

"... So it is. Perhaps it's one of those Heat Jelly that Carbide is having us hunt down," said Terra, her defenses already starting up from the metallic floor beneath her, encasing her in a protective cocoon of light and metal.

"Oh! Sweet! Let's get right to that, then; I'll take that big shadow-thing in the middle! Gimme something to run it down with!"
"... Send me the FlameLine, Rage, as well as the SonicBlade."
"You guys sure have what you want down, huh. Alright, that's all of it."

Carbide's chip was the first to arrive. "Whoa!" she exclaimed, as the spires down her free arm began to expand around her hand into an enormous arm-saber. "Yeah, I'm pumped!" She then rushed forward, looking like a diminutive knight, charging at the Nightmare with a loud bellow. Without wasting any time, she swung her makeshift blade like a bludgeon, once upwards in an uppercut, and once as a downwards strike. With each strike, the girl bellowed out with excitement, happy to be useful to her Navi.

Meanwhile, Terra was preparing her own offenses. Crouching down on the metal, Terra "spoke" to the earth beneath her. The volcanic forces responded to her, warping the lava flow in the area as it forced itself through the furnace vents in a brilliant explosion. Then, she melted into the floor, converting herself into data packets to travel at lightspeed through the ground. The heat vents warped unnaturally as Terra appeared on top of them.

In her hand, she held a red-hot sword, primed at her side as if in an invisible sheath. Crouched in a ready position, she then proceeded to strike out in front of her with unparalleled speed, sending out a wave of fire towards the viruses. Right after her strike, an odd heat mirage appeared briefly beside her that almost looked as if it doubled her body. The faux body double mirrored her attack as it sent out a blast of air towards the Nightmare.

Questions about appropriate research could likely be left to another time, especially when the one who had signed up without checking was so eager to rush in anyway. Receiving the new weapon from Terra, Carbide managed to score the first strike of the engagement, slicing into the Nightmare virus before it could gather its composure; her blade cleaved cleanly through, finding its mark amidst the shadowy and deceptive figure with ease.

As she did this, most of the other viruses all began to react as well, though surprisingly few of them had anything immediately offensive on the cards. The lone Spikey was perhaps the most instinctively aggressive, launching a bolt of fire at Carbide as she rushed forward, and barking a few extra times as it did; the fire crashed against the small SP's shield, but the defence held strong for now. The fall off from the fire, however, melted the sand beneath her toes, causing it to fuse together into a more solid, crystalline form. Fortunately, Carbide's toes were safe from what would, for most, have been a very painful experience. Meanwhile, the Quaker gathered itself and leap skyward, raising it's wrecking ball weight high, and the boxer virus warped forward to deliver a quick double punch to Terra that she was too busy to avoid; they both struck her barrier, causing it to collapse, but there was no other effect.

Terra had been lining up a shot to strike three of the viruses with her eruption of magma, but the timing was unfortunate; the Quaker had just gotten off the ground, and the Champu had warped forward, which meant that the poor Spikey was the only one to catch the full force of the attack. It did not, however, survive.

Carbide's second sword slash wasn't quite as accurate as her first; the nightmare seemed to take offence to the small SP with the blade, and it teleported behind her just as she struck out, and took a swipe of its own. worse luck, the timely attack came in at an angle that Carbide just couldn't get her shield to in time, and she took a stinging cut across her back. the nightmare reappeared before her again a moment later; it screeched as though gloating, despite the fact that Carbide had inflicted far more damage to it, than it had to her, so far.

The Jelly... continued to bob up and down, though at this point it became rather a lot more up than down, and it appeared to be drawing in energy to itself for some reason. As it did this, Terra's quick repositioning on the field gave her a better perspective on things, and while she couldn't really get a proper angle to line up the remaining viruses she wanted to, she could certainly punish the ground-bound Champu with a vengeance before it could cause any more problems. Her secondary attack served to send a slicing wave at the Nightmare, catching the virus mid gloat and destroying it with a fitting level of thoroughness.

There were only a couple of viruses left at this point; the Jelly looked like it was about to do something major, however, and the Quaker had reached the peak of its leap, about to come crashing back down.

"Ugh!" grunted Carbide, as she received the attack from the Nightmare across her back. She was about to retaliate with a strike of her sword, but the shadowy virus shrieked as it was cut to shreds from afar. The short girl turned to see Terra wielding a red-hot sword, which quickly disintegrated as it served its purpose. "Thanks, Terra!" yelled out Carbide. Throwing her shield to the ground, she reproduced a new one from her arm as she scouted out the battlefield.

It didn't take long for her to sight a small figure high in the air, and wordlessly prepared herself for a counterattack. Beneath her, the sandy ground began to shimmer before blowing away in an invisible wind, revealing some metallic paneling. Carbide's body was promptly enveloped in a shiny armor as she crouched in preparation to strike at the flying foe.

"... I'm counting on you, Scarlet," said Terra, as she finished transforming the ground around her into a smooth steel flooring. Her current armaments had run out, but the shimmering defense that surrounded her with an incandescent yellow glow was ever-present.

"Alright, I'll send you a couple of attack chips along with the usual supports," said Scarlet, punctuating her statement with an unintentional growl of her stomach. "Uuu..." Perhaps she shouldn't have passed on the fish after all.

Terra's systems were quick to utilize the familiar chips that her operator had sent in, as her Bandcoon companion materialized in front of her. Terra briefly considered giving her newfound frequent companion a name, though it had already bounded off in hot pursuit of loot. She turned her focus on the enormous red jellyfish in front of her, which was already charging up its attack. Compared to the Tsunami she had just encountered, this one was downright miniaturized, but judging from all the energy she could sense coming into it, it certainly had no shortage of offensive power.

Of course, her own attacks were no slouch either, as she spread out her arms to showcase them. Electrical arcs coursed through the ground, before gathering in the palms of her outstretched hands. She then brought them together in a thunderous clap, sending out two bolts of energy firing powerfully towards the jellyfish. Elsewhere on the battlefield, the ground beneath Carbide glowed subtly before providing her with restorative energy, patching up the damage that the Nightmare's blade had done to her.

With most of the field cleared, Terra refreshed everyone's defences, just in case, while Carbide prepared to strike back after the Quaker, high in the air, finally landed. It did so with a tremendous crash that sent a tremble reminiscent of its namesake through the ground, unsettling both of them, though the large wrecking ball itself didn't manage to connect with either of them, and the shock waves dealt them no harm. The tremors did, however, leave Carbide just shaken enough that her fist attempt at striking it after it landed went badly. Her follow-up was more sure, however, and it was enough to put an end to the heavy-weight virus.

While they were taking care of this, Terra's fuzzy little friend made an attempt to frisk the charging Jellyfish, but it had only just begun when the virus unleashed a spreading gout of fire that washed over the field in every direction. It was thus a very singed-smelling bandcoon that returned to Terra and crawled up on her shoulder, almost hiding behind her from the Jelly. It had something in its paws, but it didn't look like it had managed to get much.

The fire wave passed over both Terra and carbide as well, but their defences were enough to weather it without any harm to either, and Terra answered back with one of her favoured electrical chips that amplified itself through the metal panels underfoot to deliver a charge potent enough to pay the jelly back for its offensive behaviour. There wasn't anything much to attack after that, but there was still time for Terra to quickly patch Carbide up from her damage with one more chip. In the aftermath, they were able to collect spoils, but there wasn't anything particularly interesting this time around. A decent amount of zenny to add to their funds, and a healthy portion of fragments for Carbide, but that was about all. The little bandcoon had managed to get his paws on some additional zenny, but nothing else this time.

"Wow, that went a lot better than I thought it would. Nice." Leaning over from his side, Luke commented on the battle's results, with a small makizushi roll in his hand swiftly finding its way into his mouth. Scarlet pushed away the intrusive commentator on his forehead as she only nodded towards the visual feed with a smile.

"That was sick! High five!" yelled Carbide, raising her hand up for a celebratory high-five. However, she only managed to catch a certain singed Bandcoon's paw, which had leaped up to seize the opportunity, before disappearing into the ether. Of course, it didn't have any foresight to clear its paws of cinders either, giving Carbide a nasty surprise. "What the-- Owwww!" she exclaimed.

Terra's response was only to giggle as she set off with Carbide in tow, who was blowing rather hard onto her palm to cool it off.

[Battle 2 - Ready. Bounty Set: HeatJelly.]
[Terra.EXE: 170 HP, Carbide.SP: 70 HP.]
Mild amusements and stolen high-fives aside, the pair moved deeper into the hostile network, searching for the apparently over-populous HeatJelly viruses that presumably lurked in the area. The space opened into a broad magma field before long, with no sure way to go forward, save an intricate lattice work of arching rock structures — they rose from the magma and descended back into it in smooth curves, and looked very much like they might once have been liquid flares that had cooled to form the artistic sprays they took now. They looked metallic in nature, which might explain why they weren't simply melting back into the lava itself.

It made for quite a strikingly beautiful scene; like the aftermath of some grand eruption long past, except that it was now also, it seemed, the hang-out of a variety of other viruses that wanted to turn the arcs of metal into perches and lookouts. In particular, a series of three waxy white candles seemed to have been placed at different levels in the local area, each on a different arc of metal, and as Tarra approached they flickered and bubbled, emitting a trio of fiery demon-like figures that wrapped themselves in the candles' flames before cackling discordantly at the navi and her SP.

Further below, in the bed of lava itself, a lone Volgear pushed its way forward through the boiling liquid, making a line towards Terra. It blew steam and kicked up a splash of lava as it came to a halt at the edge of its own range, preparing to attack. Off to either side, more shapes moved in the lava, rising up to reveal not one, but two of the heatjelly that the pair were seeking. the other major thing of note was that, on one of the highest arcs, there seemed to be a glowing green crystal ripe for the taking — but no sooner had the girls laid eyes on it, then a flame-auraed Megalian flew in, dropping out of the sky and bumping the crystal off its perch and into the lava below as it drew up an attack position. The data crystal itself seemed ok, for now, but there was a good chance that the lava would take its toll on it if it remained there for too long.

"Hey, Terra, look how tall I am now! Haha!"
"... Watch your footing."

Coming across the surreal landscape in the Hades Isle networks, Terra and Carbide took to exploring its interesting architectures. Carbide had taken it upon herself to find the best places to leap to and hang from, waving over to Terra once she had found herself a good ten feet above the Navi's head. Scarlet and Luke watched with amusement as the former waited for her order, trying to ignore the intermittent rumbling coming from her stomach.

"Those arches look unreal... I wonder if there's something like that in the actual island."
"I think they actually do tours there. Not sure why you'd want to go, but the option is the-- Hey, don't steal my food if you're not gonna eat it!"
"It'd probably be the entire day, though."

"Oh, yeah, Scarlet, could you send in that raccoon thing again?"
"What for?" "Nothing, I just want to see it."

The operator shrugged, tapping on the battlechip's icon to send the little critter in. The creature appeared in a beam of light next to Terra, wearing its usual eyepatch and armband, though the armband looked a little disheveled for whatever reason.

"I guess it's kind of cute," commented Carbide, as she leapt down next to her Navi and crouched down to inspect the virus. The Bandcoon tilted its head in questioning, but didn't move from its position. However, before Carbide could do any more, she felt a tap on her shoulder. Looking up, she saw Terra looking off into the distance. A cursory glance to her side presented her with the sight of viruses coming in left and right-- with the red HeatJelly virus in a twin formation. To the side, a small green Mystery Data crystal taunted them with its possible contents.

"Hmm..." mumbled Carbide, before balling up her fist decisively.

"I'm going in!" she yelled, as she ran off, raising her rocky bulwark high. Terra tried to stop her, but her feet were pattering quietly on the metallic arches as she ran towards the gleaming green crystal. The dark metal on the floor crept up her leg as she did so, covering her skin with a thin bodysuit of metallic armor. It didn't take very long for the nimble girl to reach the crystal.

"Oh, hey, this thing's pretty light, actually!" she said, as she raised the crystal up in the air. "I got it, Terra!"

Terra nodded, and looked down at the Bandcoon at her feet. It was already standing at attention on its hind legs, saluting her with its little paw, before hopping through the rough terrain. From its general path, it seemed like it was heading for one of the red Jelly viruses on the same level.

"Scarlet, I'll need the new chip and the GravityHold."

Meanwhile, Terra's eyes mechanically darted to and fro, scouting all of the viruses warped into the area. Then, she crouched and hopped off the arch she was on, landing squarely in the boiling lava pool beneath. However, what was there didn't so much as singe her hair, as the lava began to shift and gurgle about her, and a faint red aura began to envelop her. The lava's bright crimson color began to dilute into a soupy red, before turning entirely transparent. Before long, the barrier that had been swirling about her shifted its color into a mellow blue, signifying the successful transmutation of lava into water.

"Right... Oh, that's a new one," commented Scarlet, as she confirmed her Navi's chip requests, eagerly waiting for the result.

Terra's pace was unbroken as she lowered her body into the newly-transmuted waters, sending ripples through the ground. The small ripples seemed rather innocent at first, but soon enough, the ground began to shake, and the ripples grew larger and larger. Suddenly, the air grew heavy. Quite literally, as Terra and Carbide felt a powerful weight on their shoulders anchoring them to the ground, and the earthquake came to an apex. Then, in a few instants, the metallic arches began to warp slightly as a ball of black energy spat itself out from one of them, slowly warping the air around it and heading for the nearest virus. The arches creaked loudly before they abruptly cracked, erupting in every direction with jets of superheated water.

Artistically striking landscape aside, Carbide had her eyes on the prize, or at least, on one of them. Nimble feet carried her down to the lava and let her scoop up the Mystery Data before any damage could befall it, while Terra gave her some additional protection during the extraction. From above, the Megalian swooped in low, repositioning itself a few times to find the right angle to attack from and making itself erratic to hit as it did so. Off to each side, the two large jellies both began drawing heat from the lava, building up their energy; one rose up to the highest level of the arches while it did, and the other remained low down. While this was going on, Terra's little Bandcoon ally was more than happy to have another go at the jelly-type virus that had foiled it last time, and it raced along the arches jumping higher and higher each time it switched path, until it dived across the rising jelly in a precision leap, striking it and landing on the far side with something red between its teeth. It scrabbled for a moment, getting its footing on the high arch, but it looked far more pleased with itself this time.

Terra jumped down tot he lava, down at ground level, but she didn't drop down quite fast enough to avoid a brief lick of flame from the nearest candle virus. Only the very tail end of it clipped her, but for a navi of her nature the fire was uncomfortable to say the least. The lava itself was less of a problem, thanks to her natural affinities, and as she brought up her barrier, it went from red heat to cool waters, heralding the outrush of water that converted the lava for a wide distance around. There was virulent hissing at the edges of her transition, where dark rocky crust began to form between the water, and the lava further out, but Terra had managed to push the change far enough to encompass most of the area beneath the arching metal; The volgear in particular was left in a tight spot, not a fan of the water as it was.

The devil on the middle level wasn't about to go anywhere near the pool, or consequently, the navi and her SP far below, so it remained by its candle on the arch and instead summoned a burst of fire to strike at Terra directly. It would have been more thematically sound if the ground had still be lava, but despite being mildly disconcerting, this didn't seem to detract from the potency of its attack at all. Fortunately, Terra's barrier was made of stern stuff, and it absorbed the burst of fire, hanging together by a thread after it passed.

The candle on the lower arch was closer to Carbide, and the spirit haunting it dared to float out over the water enough to send a stream of fire in the SP's direction. Fortunately for both Carbide, and her carried prize, she was able to avoid the plume of fire cleanly without any trouble. The Candevil's gamble turned even more sour a moment later as Terra unleashed a surprise tactic on the assembled enemies. The slow-moving ball of raw gravitational pull wasn't the most accurate thing in the world, and even the less-than-nimble Volgear was able to stay out of its way, however, the resultant gravity well that drew inexorably on everything around crushed one of the candle spirits down against the metal arch it was on, and successfully dragged the other viruses down to the surface of the water with a series of angry viral splashes. The Volgear was already wet, but the two HeatJellies were both dunked in the water with a screech, and even the Megalian ended up splashing down hard, despite its best efforts to fly up and away. The two Candevils that had been out over the water at the time were dragged down to it, each making indignant noises as the connection between their forms and their candles stretched out.

Under normal circumstances, this would have been a minorly painful inconvenience for most of the viruses nearby, but Terra had a follow up of day-ruining proportions ready for them. Just as the gravity pull brought the various viral enemies down to the water, the rapid tide that she expelled crashed outward from her position, amplified by the surrounding water into a tall, powerful wave.

The two candle spirits had already begun zipping back up to their candles to get away from the water, but one of them wasn't fast enough to escape the wave; above, its candle began to disintegrate moments later. Neither the Volgear, nor the Megalian could escape the attack either, and were resoundingly washed. The two jellies, furthest out, quickly began to rise away from the attack, but one of them didn't make it; it survived to rise into the mid level of the arches above, but it looked very shaky.

Also having to deal with the massive wave, Carbide didn't have much time to dodge it, but her casing from Terra kept her safe, and she was able, with some effort, to shield the data from the attack as well.

Resting her head in her hands on the table, Scarlet watched the waterworks fly, with Terra and Carbide's combined teamwork wreaking havoc on their Hades-born opponents. It never really got old, watching the two girls work their magic.

"Looks like you cut down their ranks a fair bit. You think one more round should do it?"
"... Yes. All of these should be susceptible to DoubleShot and ElementalRage."
"I'll throw in something else so cleanup should be easier."
"... Thank you."

"Alright! Let's hit it out of the park!" yelled out Carbide, as she tossed the shield into the air, as if it was a light rock. However, its size clearly didn't make it look very light at all as it soared through the air. Without skipping a beat, the rocky ridges that lined her arm burst out with an explosive growth of hardened earth, forming another shield to defend herself with. Her joints also gathered up another layer of armor, this time made out of swirling water, coupled with a gleaming blue barrier. The petite fighter then twirled about, making a splash in the water before launching a chunk of earth, this time kicked out from the ground.

Meanwhile, Terra was making her own waves, with her feet planted firmly on the lava pool-turned-hotspring. Her eyes were closed, only needing previously gleaned information from the ground beneath her feet to perform her tasks. Her hands were firmly balled up in fists at her sides, and her legs were spread slightly apart, almost like a martial artist readying a strike. Unlike Carbide's active thrashing, Terra didn't need to even move for the water around her feet to start propagating from them. Even her firm stance almost made her out to be a statue, but there was clearly an abundance of energy gathering within her.

The waves around her started to morph into a swirling vortex, and eventually into a myriad of watery blue blobs, with varying sizes all around. The blobs revolved rapidly around her for a moment before slowing down to settle at her sides. Then, her eyes shot open, darting to and fro at each of the surviving viruses. As if by command, each of the blobs rocketed upwards towards the viruses she marked with her sight, making for a beautiful water fountain show.

Even so, the artificial geysers weren't the only part of the show. Within the fountains lurked a green serpent that darted to and fro. When the fountains reached a certain height, it lashed out, heading straight for the candle-lit demons. A burst of green spread out as it did so, transforming the harsh metal arches into verdant grassy soil.

With most of the oddities and stragglers dealt with, Terra and carbide were able to turn their attention to the remaining viruses, but as they refreshed their defences, it seemed they'd left the larger ones just a hair too long. Carbide's flung shield missed its mark as the damaged HeatJelly dropped suddenly to the water level with a hiss and pumped out a wave of lava. The net being what it was, this actually went pretty badly for the Jelly itself, which hissed from its unpleasant contact with the water, while the wave only succeeded in removing the last remnants of Terra's old barrier, and damaging Carbide's new one partially, and having no effect at all on the water that it rolled over.

Terra was too busy prepping her other attacks to really notice this, or the wave of the other jelly that followed a moment later; the latter managed to miss both her and Carbide completely, and both waves passed over the water and out into the lava further beyond. when she was ready, Terra's attacks found their marks much more reliably, with her first tow shots pelting the grounded Jelly into data before it could recover, while her third managed to obliterate one of the two spirits that had fled back up towards their respective candles. Carbide had another go at the remaining jelly in the water, nailing it cleanly this time and removing it from consideration, while Terra's final bolt of watery offence cleaned up the remaining spirit — it managed to send a burst of bright fire towards Carbide just before, but it only managed to destroy her already damaged barrier, and little else.

The field was clear, but, since she'd already prepared it, Terra opted to let her dragon out to play anyway, sending it coursing over the raised arches after it burst out of the column of water that had carried it up. Everywhere it passed, the solid metal became seconds of soft, grassy soil, and it managed to convert the top sections of most of the arches over the water before running out of energy. As it dissipated, there was a soft rumble as the looser parts of the freshly converted terrain didn't quite manage to hold up with the same integrity as the hardened metal had. Chunks began to fall, and eventually whole sections of the upper arches began to tumble haphazardly into the water below. None of the tumbling earth and grass struck Terra or her SP, who stood in the middle of the vaguely 'returning to nature' moment unharmed, the sounds of splashing all around them.

When the scene finally settled, all that remained were the upraised bases of the metal arches, and a few clinging on pieces of grass cover at the ends, stretched over a broad lake of clear water. Beyond this, of course, it was still lava and metal arches in several directions, the section of sea being more an oasis from the heat, but even so...

In other news, there were spoils to be had. No discernible chip data seemed to have survived this time, but there was a fair amount of zenny, and of course, Carbide's rescued GMD waited to be opened, if they were game. Amidst this moment to run inventory, Terra's light-fingered Bandcoon accomplice crawled out of the water and onto her shoulder, offering something small and red to his master with obvious enthusiasm.

Exhaling quietly, Terra released the earth's power from her body, allowing herself to relax just as the Bandcoon bounded up to her. In its mouth, a small translucent red tentacle wriggled about. She jumped a little as the Bandcoon spat it out from atop her shoulder, and she fumbled about to catch it before it could fall into the water. The independent appendage struggled in her hand before her systems recognized it as something convertible into chip data. Moments passed before it disappeared into the air, transferred to the PET as a battlechip.

Scarlet whistled. "Oh, this is a pretty good chip, though we already have it, so that makes two of them. Good job."

"... It's thanks to this little one," said Terra, raising a hand to pat the Bandcoon on her shoulder, which accepted its show of affection with a chatter before disappearing once more.

"Hey! I did something too!" said Carbide, running up to Terra as she held up the green crystal in her hand. "W-Whoa!" Unfortunately, her footing was a bit too rough, and she nearly tripped over her own legs. Fortunately, she managed to save her stance, but the crystal flung itself from her hands and splashed into the water. Somehow, that set off its decryption processes, and its contents started to reveal themselves.

[Z > 4085, BF > 379, Bounty > 3, ExF > 4.]

The data was quick to decrypt, and fortunately for Terra and Carbide, this one contained no more untoward surprises. Instead, it resolved into a second chip for them.

"Gaaah! S-S-Sorry, I didn't mean to drop it!" panicked Carbide, as Terra bent down to pick up its contents, which was a long howitzer-like barrel. Its end was glowing with the red glow of the Hades networks' lava-- clearly something that could be used for chip data. She examined the barrel for a few moments before allowing it to disappear into the PET.

"... It's fine, it's just decrypted," she said, patting her partner's head affectionately. Carbide looked hesitant to accept it, but nevertheless allowed it to happen. While her hand was idly running through Carbide's blue hair, she looked at the small oasis that she had created in the midst of all the fiery death of Hades Net. It seemed strange that she was just transforming lush underground caverns into destructive lava pits not too long ago, and now she was doing what appeared to be the opposite.

Chuckling, she withdrew her hand from Carbide's head. "... Let's go," she said, beckoning her to follow her out of the pool of water.
"Alright!"

[ExF > 5.]
[Battle 3 - Ready. Bounty Set: HeatJelly.]
[Terra.EXE: 140 HP, Carbide.SP: 70 HP.]
By the time the two jelly-hunters moved out of their newly created hot tub — the water was beginning to get very warm and bubbly, surrounded by lava as it was — a thick crust of obsidian black stone had formed to separate the circle from the surrounding molten terrain. Beyond it, the lancing arches of metal continued in a rough direction, making it fairly easy to move without crossing the lava directly, if either of them wished to do so. they looked almost like a snapshot of the water trails that might be left behind by a school of leaping fish, if one looked at the right... only of course, very large, and made of cooled metal, in a lake of lava.

Moving on, however, the arcs gradually lowered out, until they were only just rising up to the surface of the lava itself — it became less a game of climbing along arches and jumping between them, and more of playing hopscotch at the lava's surface, moving from one long strip of metal to the next, where the tops of individual arches only barely broke the surface.

In places, however, the effect was such that the strips themselves widened out across the surface of the lava, leaving strips of particularly scalding metal at the edges, and patches of slightly cooler material in the middle. Another change to the terrain as they moved along was something heard before it was seen. A hearty rushing sound of of steam, intermittent but increasingly predictable as they moved along.

Eventually, the pair would be able to see that the sounds were coming from odd vents in the lava — the metal strips seemed to avoid them. Each vent was a dark hole surrounded by a hard edifice of granular sand that bubbled and crystallised at the edges as it held the magma back. They formed small raised mounds above the lava's surface, with the vent at the top, and each lay silent for several long seconds, before a sharp gush of steam burst upwards for about as long again. The steam columns were broad enough to stand in, and there was every possibility that someone like Terra, and certainly as small as carbide, cold be carried up a long distance into the air by them, if they were feeling daring.

The area with the vents, given that it overall seemed to provide more solid landmass than most other places in the vicinity, also seemed to have attracted its share of resident viruses, as these sorts of locations in hades seemed to do. The most noticeable came in the way the baking dry heat and still air was pleasantly, if forcefully, disturbed here by a pair of windboxes. One was situated at ground level, on the edge of a sandy mound, and seemed to blow more or less evenly towards Terra and Carbide, timed in between the geysers of steam from the vent. The other, further back and a little to Terra's left, was positioned on a slim rocky spire, capped with a metal plate, that put it about halfway up the height that a geyser might carry. It was facing perpendicular to the first one, across ways from Terra and carbide, and seemed to blow every few seconds perfectly in time to interrupt the flow of steam from a vent that it was facing directly.

Closer to the girls, a dormant-seeming OldStove rested on a sand mound, just next to the rushing steam vent, but it roused and rumbled, its furnace lighting up, as the pair drew nearer. To its left, off in the lava a bit, a puffy rolled around, before inflating itself fully and making threatening motions at the two explorers, while further back behind it another large Heatjelly pulsed slowly, soaking up the lava.

Directly in front of the two, on one of the nearest metal strips, a Zemon had been coming along in the opposite direction, but now readied its weapon, making a warning viral chatter at them both that defied translation. There was also a single momogra, further back and to Terra's right, that seemed to be mostly playing in the sand by one of the more distant vents — give the terrain area they were in, it didn't seem like this particular virus was going to pose much threat, really.

MomograMomogra (Momogra)

Momogras move by tunneling through the ground. They poke their heads up just far enough from time to time to see where the enemy is, but they are still protected from most forms of attack. Drop attacks, Bomb attacks (which fall out of the air after being thrown), and Ground attacks damage them in this state. Other attacks executed from a high angle/altitude also work. All movements performed by a Momogra are considered a dodge, as they occur underground, and out of sight. Momogras only attack in response to having an attack launched in their direction, and only if they have an action remaining for that turn. Momogras attack by instantly tunneling to the panel behind the enemy, popping out of the ground, and striking with a shovel. A Momogra is completely vulnerable to any form of attack during its own atack, and until it moves again following that attack. The movement prior to the attack does not require an action, but movement afterwards does. The attack cannot execute if the panel behind the target is a liquid terrain type, Metal, Broken, or Missing. The attack also will not execute if there is something currently occupying the panel they would be attacking from. If the attack cannot execute, the Momogra will not move. In the case of Glass and Cracked terrain, the Momogras will still attempt to attack, but suffer the consequences of doing do as those panels will break and damage the Momogra, also causing the attack to fail. Momogra get 1 free movement per turn at the start of the turn before their first action.

-=Battle 3, Start!=-
"Hey, this area seems a lot more exciting!" said Carbide, as she leapt deftly from island to island of metal strips. Even with her bare, delicate feet, the heat coming from the metal didn't seem to faze her that much-- it went beyond just being light-footed. "Oh, this jump's a doozy!" Still, the girl seemed to pay it no mind as she continued to have fun hopping to and fro, laughing and waving all the while to her partner. Terra quietly trailed behind at her own pace, content to simply walk through the lava, as her recent affinity with it had clearly demonstrated. It would've seemed like a casual walk through nature, if it wasn't for all the face-melting lava everywhere.

Suddenly, a piercing whistle interrupted their casual time, causing Carbide to nearly trip into the lava. "W-Whoa! What was that sound?" she said, looking towards the source of the noise. They weren't able to see anything yet, but the sound was enough to spark some curiosity. "... Vents?" muttered Terra, though her thought was interrupted by Carbide yelling out towards her from a small distance away.

"Heeey! Terra! Let's go check it out!" she yelled, before running off on her own. It seemed like she hadn't had much of a choice, so she followed along as well. It didn't take them long to reach the more solid landmass that was the source of the sound -- a cluster of steam vents. "Oh, they're like some huge vent things!" commented Carbide. "Though it doesn't look like those viruses look too happy we're here..."

Sure enough, the landmass was populated with a fair collection of viral threats, each looking stronger than the last. Some fire-spitting viruses, a large puffy red fish, a mole with a shovel, and a straw hat-wearing ragged humanoid. Further in the back, Terra could spot the HeatJelly virus that they were hunting. Two cube-like viruses rounded out the set -- an overall scary-looking entourage. Of course, she had just the method to deal with them... "... Carbide, I'm going to use the usual. Climb onto my back," she said.

Meanwhile, Carbide was also scouting out the enemies, when an idea came to her head. "Hmmm... I've got a better idea!" said Carbide. Immediately after, she sped off towards one of the small steam vents. Fragments of rock seemed to trail after her as they were kicked up by her running. As soon as she reached the nearest vent, she jumped at it with an impressive leap. At her side, the rocks rapidly coalesced into her usual defensive shield as she used it as a surfboard of sorts to land on the steam vent. The timing was just right as she was expelled into the air at high speed. "Wheeeee-heeee!" she yelled, riding the geyser as she took hold of her shield, using it to direct herself away from any attacks that would come her way.

"She's really way too energetic for her own good," laughed Scarlet. A few casual taps on her floating screen later, she selected the few chips that would be able to tear through the opposition. "Here you go, Terra. Go wreck shop."

The Navi only looked at the far-off Support Program barreling through the air before she shook her head, focusing on the target of their hunts-- the large Jelly in the rear end of all of the mayhem. Lifting her hand up, Terra looked at the virus through her outstretched finger, floating all by its lonesome. She observed its translucent red body, reflecting the deep red glow from the lava underneath it, before her view was obscured by the rocky cannon forming at her fingertips. The weapon built itself up to her wrist before whirring to life, and belching out a lump of rock towards the jellyfish virus.

As the slug cut through the air, the gleaming yellow aura enveloping Terra faded out as the Navi vanished into the air. Further out into the field, a small whirlpool swirled to life on the lava, where a red aura flickered about the green-clad Navi. The arm cannon on her arm had grown up to her elbow, and transformed its barreled end into an enormous rocky fist. Luminous red lines snaked through its fingers as Terra lifted it briefly in the air. The whirlpool under her shrunk into itself and the fist crashed into the lava. The liquid rock reacted violently, erupting in all directions about her in cascades and washing over the field with cleansing fire. The earth shook as Terra's attack intensified to its zenith, emulating the force of a miniature volcanic eruption.

With her usual enthusiasm, Carbide took off to have fun in the steam vents, racing past the Zemon approaching from the other direction and making the small jump across to the nearest one with ease. the virus that she had bypassed took one swipe at the girl as she darted through, but Carbide dodged it and its next effort missed as she was whisked up into the air by a well-timed rush of steam. Terra's thoughtfully given defences faded away moments after they were delivered as the small SP zipped up a long way from the ground. Oh well.

While her SP was having fun, Terra had more serious business to take care of, starting with the HeatJelly that was just beginning to charge up energy for its usual wave-style attack. It rose higher as it saw her aiming in its direction, then swiftly ducked low again, seeking to trick the shot, but Terra's seeking mark wouldn't be denied and it tracked superbly, hammering squarely into the top of the over-sized virus and pushing it closed to the lava still.

Not done, she warped across the battlefield and released a series of ground waves that were more or less her signature style by this point. The two windboxes switched their modes, the one that was on shutting down briefly, while the other cut in in time to interrupt the column of steam it was in front of. Not Carbide's one, fortunately, though the girl would find herself falling before long either way.

Neither of these factors had any impact on Terra's assault, however, and the first rolling wave spread across the field destroying a good number of her targets. the jelly took the brunt of the attack, and the Puffy, OldStove and the poor Momogra on its tiny island couldn't withstand it either. The Zemon turned in time to see the wave, and seemed to blink for a moment as it passed by, warping to the other side of the attack at the last moment. Aside from itself, however, only the larger jelly, and, somehow, the two windboxes, remained.

Terra wasn't finished, and released her second wave right on the tail of the first, like the relentless lapping of the tide, if said tide was made of boiling magma. The Zemon had no more tricks left and this wave washed over it, scorching the virus from the net. It was also enough to finish off the HeatJelly, but somehow, defying all reason and sense, the two windboxes continued to blow merrily in their timed order, untouched by Terra's attacks.

Terra, for the sake of everyone's sanity still had one attack left, and with nothing but the two windboxes left on the field, the third wave finally managed to actually hit both of them, and she and Carbide could, hopefully, go back to pretending that didn't just happen.

As the attack died down and the lava beneath Terra's feet began to rapidly cool into black lava base, she looked about the area, finding it completely devoid of threats, thanks to her cascade of fiery death. Everything seemed to be going just fine, except--

"Terraaaaaaa!"

Carbide's yell sounded at a high pitch as she began to plummet down from high above. The diminuitive shieldbearer discarded her shield to the side and dove straight for Terra, who was currently still atop the pool of lava. Wordlessly raising her arms, Terra caught Carbide as she landed in them, though the ground beneath her undulated like some kind of putty, owing to the fact that beneath the black rock was still some extremely hot fluid rock. Fortunately, the shock absorption wasn't enough to break through the surface, and Carbide was safely (and forcibly, much to her chagrin) dismounted from Terra's princess carry.

"That was a whole bunch of fun! Gotta find another one of those," she laughed, as she received a rough patting on the head, before following Terra by her side on their journey through the lava pools.

[Z > 6035, BF > 416, Bounty > 4]
[Battle 4 - Ready. Bounty Set: HeatJelly.]
[Terra.EXE: 140 HP, Carbide.SP: 70 HP.]
With Carbide safely back on the ground, even if she'd prefer to still be carried, the pair pressed on through the inhospitable network. The broad sea of magma diverted before they'd travelled much further, into a wide, rocky shoreline littered with smouldering coals and scorching metal that sent a mirage of heat-haze into the air. The land climbed up from the lava shore, into sharp hills beyond, but it remained mostly flat to either side if they followed the shoreline. If not for being made of lava, coal and scalding metal, it might even be thought of as a beach.

It was about as they reached the shoreline properly that the two would see a small figure walking along the edge of the magma to their left. She was a very small person, barely three feet, and looked to be covered in white fur, with long ears at the top of her head. A small nose twitched, making sensitive whiskers shift above a sly and slightly infection grin. She was dressed in a smart purple waistcoat with silver buttons that was well tailored to be flattering on her mostly flat chest, as well as a tiny purple top hat that rested between her ears Nothing, apparently, on her lower half, since that was the trend of such costumes, but aside from a fluffy rabbit's tail, inquisitive eyes would find her looking quite kid-friendly in that region. She was carrying a traditional wicker basket with a looped handle and waved at Terra and Carbide as she approached.

"Just the two I was looking for!" She called out, and darted in closer, still grinning. "Tell me, do you believe in mystical bunnies that give out random gifts to good little girls?" This was mostly directed at Carbide, but she spared a quick wink for Terra as well.

"The cool thing is, it doesn't matter if you do or not, just so long as the mystical bunny believes in you! Here you go!" With a giggle, she pulled a small crystal from her basket and gave it to Carbide, before tapping it on the top with one finger and setting it spinning through its decryption process. "You know, normally, I give out chocolate, but have you seen this place? Just think of the mess it would make!" With another small giggle she stood back and waved her free hand again.

"Stay safe you two!" She tilted her head, then blew a small kiss that might have been directed at either of them, before skipping away quickly down the shoreline in the opposite direction to the way she'd come.

The crystal unfolded itself to reveal a chip, and nothing untoward, but the strange bunny girl had barely disappeared around the rocky shoreline when a series of far less friendly creatures began to make their presence known to Terra and Carbide.

Notably, a pair of Megalian crested the hills from the right, clocking Terra and Carbide swiftly and moving towards them, while another pair of more tank-like foes worked their way over the low dunes ahead of them and began descending the slope, manoeuvring between the crags as they went. One portion of the rocky rises moved enough to reveal itself as a Cregg while a Blazer appeared from the left, being chased along the shoreline by an over-enthusiastic Spikey. Here, as well, the over-population issue that the Wrangler had signed them up to assist with continued to display itself in the form of yet another HeatJelly rising up from the lava a little way behind Terra and to her left.

The Cregg version is a brown scaly egg with red spots. Most notably, it possesses a long gray tail that extends from a crack in the egg's rear, which is constantly on fire. It moves around by emitting flames from cracks in the scaly shell, trying to hit an enemy. The Lizegg is the same, but grows four gray scaly legs and feet that pop out of the egg and two holes at the front for two shining yellow eyes. It retains the tail from its weaker form, though the flames are a bit more intense. The egg grows slightly. Its scales also become stronger which allows it to pop back in for a defensive action. The Raptegg's hind legs grow more so it can stand on them. Its head, similar to that of a raptor but gray, pops out of the egg too and a long gray scaly tail that moves behind him frantically, which is covered in roaring fire. The egg grows slightly again. Same as the Lizegg, it can also pop everything back in for a defensive action, though it is better than its lower version at this.
