Post mission busting. The Samurai and Knight team up!

Sparks commented on the fine battle they just had. DragonierMan nodded in agreement. So far they had been lucky on not taking a whole lot of damage. "It may be strong, but there are plenty of stronger viruses, especially in the Rogue Nets. And I have encountered enough viruses that fly, or have tough armor, that I am hesitant to give such a chip a awesome recommendation. I may not, myself, find enough use for it in my arsenal of weapons. Perhaps if you find something of worth to me, I could trade you the Gaia1."

Suzume and Aya appeared then to hand Drago his rewards. "Onward adventurers!" Drago shouted, pointing randomly into the distance.

[Requesting Battle 4.]
Debating the merits of their chips against different types of viruses, Drago and Sparks continued on with the girls in tow. As they were discussing the difficulties and benefits of aerial combat and aerial foes, the group happened upon what looked like a run-off stream that was thick with purple flowing poisons. It was running in their direction, and looked to be pouring out of two recessed to either side of the main way that they were moving down. The ground was close enough to flat that the slight incline wasn't notable, but a glow of crackling light could be seen coming from within both of the recesses.

The two exit ways seemed to serve as the bridge anchors for an overpass that crossed above the way they were heading, and perched on the centre of it, a Gaia statue raised its hammer in threat. On the left side of the bridge, on the rise above Drago and the team, two light-filled viruses hummed softly and circled each other, while on the right, opposite, the familiar shape of a Volgear made itself known.

All together this didn't look too bad, so far... In the centre, just looking at the stream where it flowed together, a small Rush virus jumped up in surprise, then turned and started to run away from the group quickly. Before they could give chase to it, a rumbling sound heralded a large, low-slung tank with a spiked wooden roller on the front and camo pain colouring rolling out into the middle of the underpass, obscuring sight on the Rush as its turret rotated towards the group. A shriek from far above drew their attention to one final foe, as far above, yet diving down rapidly, a very large brown bird-like creature streaked towards them, talons extended.

Maru-01Maru-01 (Maru)

Maru are rather small floating spheres of electricity, with two beady black eyes. They never appear solo, and will always have at least one other Maru at their side. While they're exactly as sturdy as one would expect from a ball of electrical energy, they can inflict bugs with their electric shocks. Maru are highly intelligent for being what they are, and love to combine tactics with others of their kind to make sure they each get to shock the enemy at maximum efficiency. Their small size and ability to move in any direction makes them extremely hard to hit.

Area: Netopia, NAXA

HP: 40
Attack Damage/Effect: 15 Elec + Glitch
Attack Accuracy: B (special)
Attack Description: Fires a small bolt of electricity that corrupts the data of whatever it hits.
Type: Elec
Possible Rewards (Per Virus): MaruBlaster1, Zenny
Special: OmniShoes
Special: Taser: If this virus is within Melee range of an enemy, its attack's accuracy is A. If an enemy uses a close range chip, they may counterattack immediately following that attack as a free action. Multi-hit close range chips only trigger one counterattack.
Special: All attacks that target this virus are treated as being two accuracy ranks lower (i.e. A is treated as C) against that virus.

TwinsTwins (Twins)

Twins viruses appear only in linked pairs, and never in odd numbers. A linked pair of Twins viruses will only link to each other, and not with any other Twins viruses present. The linked pairs are always clustered close together, and move by revolving around each other, which makes them susceptible to AoE. If one of the linked pair is deleted, and the other is not, then the virus that was deleted is revived as a free action immediately after. Both must be deleted within the span of one turn to be truly defeated. Twins viruses act in the following manner: One Twins will attack while the other moves. They then swap roles the next action, with the second virus attacking while the first moves. The virus making the move is counted as making a Dodge. The pattern is not altered even if a Twins is deleted and resurrected. They simply carry on next action as if nothing happened.

GaiaGaia (Gaia)

Gaia viruses are top-tier tanking viruses, and thus should never be seen be seen until battle 6 or later in any given thread. Contrary to popular belief, Gaia viruses are mobile. They move at the expense of their own actions, and do so one panel at a time like a chess piece every so often. All Gaia viruses have StoneBody, which they must drop in order to swing their big hammers. After attacking, they re-raise their StoneBody protection. Dropping and raising their defense does not take an action, and can be performed at any time. The rock fall effect of BigHammer attacks does not work unless underground or inside, and the number of rocks dropped is random. Gaia are immune to RockFall and GaiaWave attacks from other Gaia viruses.

TinHawk is a combination of the Fishy, Genin, and Typhoon viruses. It appears to be a large, dark brown bird, with razor sharp wings and short but thick legs and feet. Flintlock V1Flintlock V1 (Flintlock)

Flintlocks are a combination of the Shrubby, Cattack, and CannonGuard viruses. Their overall appearance is that of a low profile modern battle tank, painted jungle green. The tank has a spiked roller braced across the front that it uses to run over enemies with, clear traps, and break through obstacles. The turret is heavily armored, and features a shutter-shield that opens sideways when the main cannon is to be fired. The virus is only vulnerable to backstab attacks or drop attacks unless it is attacking with the main gun, at which time it is also vulnerable from the front. This virus is very slow, but it may move and dodge while attacking and the direction of attack is generally independent of the direction it moves in.

"That didn't take long. I assume you will take to the skies once again?" Sparks looked at his partners. "That should be good because I plan on playing with this Gaia1 again. Let's make quick work of these enemies as well." As he spoke his clone twin split from his body. The SparksClone turned towards the bridge and dashed towards them with a fake elecsword drawn... the rouse would hopefully draw some of the viruses attention and attacks.

"Let's go with these for now. LineOut2, and Gaia1, battlechips! Download!." Joseph sent his first two choices to his navi.

"Hmmm no swordsmanship for now?" The samurai's tone carried a little disappointment.

"Man, you got all day to slice and dice. Just do this for now." Joseph chuckled his response. "Use that LineOut one the bridge first, lets see what kind of damage it can do. Destroy the whole damn bridge if you can."

"Yes master." The samurai was ready to set the bridge ablaze it seemed, because he sure didn't waste any time to approach the bridge and summon the tame Flamey. "I want you do demolish anything in you're path towards that statue over there. The blazing virus obeyed and did what it was commanded to the best of it's ability. Going down, then up, then down, then up, then down, etc. Until its firepower was used up. Obliterating any piece of the bridge in a line that it could. With luck the debris from the bridge would collapse onto of the FlintLock that hid underneath the bridge. If it hit the Gaia while it had it's stonebody active, the virus would be shattered as planned. Before it vanished it, the Flamey turned to its summoner for a look of approval, once he received Sparks's nod the virus vanished in a poof of smoke.

As soon as the fiery Flamey was gone, Sparks tapped into his second chip. The Gaia1 produced the hammer. If the Gaia wasn't deleted by the first attack, Sparks would wait until it dropped it's stonebody guard, to slam the powerful attack into the ground. Once the hammer's face hit the ground it would send a massive shockwave in every direction with the intent of of decimating anything in its path. Once he was finished with the attack, if any attacks came his way he would try to sidestep to the left. followe by a second sidestep to the right hoping to dodge a again.

"To the sky!" DragonierMan said as he spread his wings and ascended. Suzume and Aya spread their own wings and followed. Scales formed over their armor and spheres of various colors, of light and darkness, bubbled around them. In their wake, a bubble of energy swirled around Sparks to protect him. They made various evasive maneuvers on their way into the sky. Suzume and Aya showed that they were far more acrobatic and nimble than Drago. The dragon navi just relied on his slightly better agility to make up for the lack of the aerial art.

A bright light shown from Drago as they came out of their climb. He was like a miniature sun, blinding everything, except possibly Sparks if he still had his Barrier100 up. The Barrier100 was like a sunshade, or a pair of really good sunglasses, the ones with special-purpose solar filters like on a welding mask. So he was protected while everyone else got a bright light shown in their face. Before it could blind everyone however, Suzume and Aya twirled around and locked-on to the two Twin viruses. It was a twin vs. Twin grudge match. The twins threw their swords like lightning bolts towards the Twins below. The swords elongated until they were nothing but beams of silver energy lancing down upon the viruses. When they were about to strike the Twins, they detonated in mid-air, exploding like twin silver fireballs amongst the Twins.

The twins zoomed off in evasive patterns once their attack was delivered. It was at that time that Drago charged the huge TinHawk V1. The dragon showed his own claws as he sped towards the outstretched talons of the TinHawk, forming an energy cone around him. He overcharged his engines as he spun like a drill towards the metavirus, boring a hole though the air, wind parting around him like a tornado. Although the end result was more like a battering ram than a spear as he crashed through the airspace of the TinHawk. The metavirus however, wouldn't be stopped by such an attack, and probably would make Drago pay for the damage by slashing up the navi.

Needing help to fight the large raptor bird, Drago called on his faithful ally. A portal opened as the battle hardened P-47D Thunderbolt appeared. With its dragon-mouth insignia nose art (similar to the popular shark-face insignia, but dragon themed), and its engine roaring, it climbed with Drago to fight the aerial terror. Its propeller spun rapidly as it climbed towards the TinHawk, its machine guns firing in rapid succession. Many cracks of gunfire split the air as it poured red-hot tracer fire into the metavirus, trying to shred it with a hail of bullets.

Drago and the pilot veered away after the attack, taking evasive maneuvers. The dragon was quite evasive as he winged over and circled around the TinHawk. Bobbing and weaving through the air like the serpent he was. As he came out of one of his defensive maneuvers, he breathed a cone of venomous spores at the TinHawk. The wind carried the earthy dragon breath toward the metavirus, poisoning the air around the TinHawk. If it succumbed to the poison, it would be rendered very confused and disoriented. Not to mention the problem it already probably suffered with the blindness that was locking through the code of most of the battle's participants. The only ones who were unaffected were the pilot, who came into the fight after the blinding light, and Sparks if the Barrier100 protected him.

Repeating their previous strategy with a slight bit of difference, Sparks and DragonierMan split paths, just as the TinHawk swooped in from far away with a deafening shriek. However, it was stopped in its tracks by Sparks's first attack, with his LineOut battlechip summoning the burning statue-like Flamey. The bird swooped to the side and behind him to avoid it, while the summoned virus continued forward to smash into the bridge, as well as the unfortunate Gaia on top of it to delete it in an instant. The Flintlock tank underneath the bridge wasn't spared the carnage either, though it managed to move out of the way slightly after the attack to fire a fragmentation cannon shell towards Sparks. However, the shell only managed to pierce his clone that had dashed forward, its explosive impact mitigated by the sacrificial substitute.

Meanwhile, critically damaged by the Flamey's attack, the bridge collapsed, and the viruses that had been perched on top of it fell to the poisonous stream below. Meanwhile, DragonierMan took the time to produce a protective bubble around his comrade--just in time for a couple of the Maru viruses to fire a salvo of electrical shots at him, with three of the shots crackling and dissipating harmlessly off of it. The Volgear that had dropped into the poisonous stream attempted to retaliate towards Sparks by producing a slowly marching group of fiery explosions, though it missed its mark by a rather embarrassingly wide margin.

DragonierMan pressed the assault along with his two companions, with Suzume and Aya firing at the diminutive Twins. Unfortunately, from such a high angle, they were unable to hit the both of them as the Twins revolved around each other, and only one of the TankCannons' explosions hit one of them. DragonierMan radiated a bright light from his own body just as Sparks produced his purple Gaia hammer to radiate a huge shockwave that spanned the entire field. One of the Volgear managed to avoid the carnage as the shockwave barely missed it on one of its rolling undulations, while the metaviruses, as well as the remaining Twins virus weren't so lucky. The TinHawk's response to the attack was to claw at him with its powerful talons, though this attack too bounced against the Barrier provided to him.

His comrade was quick to provide assistance to him as he rocketed down towards the enormous bird, and bashed into its side, injuring it quite critically. In the air, the plane that he had summoned assumed its position before tearing into the hawk with its bullets, eliciting a piercing cry from it as it was deleted summarily. They weren't out of the park quite yet, however, as a dim whir could be heard from in front of them--the Flintlock had loaded up another one of its shells. Aiming at DragonierMan, it fired once more, but he was swift with his evasion and avoided the attack successfully.

Somewhere else in the field, the mole-like Rush took one look at the ensuing fire and decided that the wisest course of action was to flee.

"This barrier is quite powerful. Thank you my friends." Sparks was unscathed between dodging and the barrier's superior defensive qualities, and also this time unharmed by the Drago's Blind attack.

"See if our Bandcoon can get us anything good from that strong virus in front of you. Also... I'm sending you your trusty blade." The operator went back too the well to send the PickPocket, and ElecSword chips.

Sparks didn't waste anytime to bring his faithful theif virus to the battlefield. The Flintlock should be easy picking since it was blinded. "Go get me something good, got it?" The samurai commanded, and the rodent acted. In a speedy burst, the Bandcoon ran towards the unknown enemy, quickly gripping at any data it could get its paws on. With a quick look behind to see Sparks usual look of apporval, once recieved it dashed off to wait until the battle was finished.

"Now... You must be deleted." The sword navi unsheathed his sword once again revealing the glowing yellow blade, while simultaneously summoning his clone again. The Sparks duplicate ran the same path that the Bandcoon did. Sparks attempted to use that as a distraction so he could use a burst of speed to easily get behind the Flintlock virus. Once he was behind the enemy, the samurai unleashed a very fast double slash with the sword of electricity. Both slashes were diagonal slashes starting high left, to low right, followed by a high right, to low left. The trail of sparks that the blade left behind a quickly fading image of a yellow x that fell to the ground.

Sparks sheathed the blade momentarily, so that he could focus on trying to dodge any incoming attacks. "Make quick work of our enemies Drago!"

As DragonierMan's eyes glazed over from the blinding that he inflicted upon himself, his body began to react with unnatural resilience. This wasn't the first time he had purposefully blinded himself, and it certainly wouldn't be the last. "Take this aid my allies!" Drago shouted out as he tossed out two beams of energy at his allies. Assuming they accepted the aid, a bubble barrier formed around the fighter plane and a casing of hard scales formed over the armor of Sparks. Suzume and Aya's bodies both fought against the blinding effect of their master, clearing it just as Drago was. "I got the Volgear and Sparks got the tank," Drago said to the twins. "You two divide and conquer!" The twins gave a quick salute and then sped off to each of the Recessed Passes.

Drago flew over to the Volgear very, very quickly, and unleashed a torrential rain upon the virus from above. A blast of icy water spat out of the navi's hands and rushed down to soak the virus into deletion. The wide waterfall splashed all over the poison below, mixing into the deadly soup. Suzume and Aya produced a pair of hammers and smashed them into the Recessed Passes, attempting to cause them to cave in and bury the Maru-01 viruses hiding within them. Suzume wielded the mighty GodHammer, and so if she struck true it would cause debris to clump up and fall on someone close by. Aya wielded a normal Hammer, but unlike the disintegrating Godhammer, it would continue to last for a few more swings. Their swings were as mighty as their hammers, bringing them up high above their heads, to smash down upon the two spillways.

As the twins moved back to assess the damage and to avoid counter reprisals, Suzume yelled out to their two allies. "Take this aid my allies!" Suzume shouted out as she tossed out two beams of light at her allies. Assuming they accepted the aid, a barrier of multi-colored light formed around the fighter plane and a casing of multi-colored scales formed over the armor of Sparks. Drago dived down at the Volgear, quickly getting into melee range, and breathed an icy breath all over the area from above. The icy breath swept across the area like a focused rain shower. The terrain would mostly likely solidify and turn to ice. A blackish-purple ice. And if the virus was caught in the path of the cone attack, it would be frozen solid like a popsicle.

Drago then moved away and adopted a defensive stance as the pilot flying above looked down at the targets below. If the Volgear was still alive, that would be its target. But if the Volgear was dead, then it targeted the Flintlock V1 tank to assist Sparks. It piloted its plane to the rear of the enemy and then dove down. Its machine guns lit up the sky with sound and fury as it rained a deadly stream of lead at the vulnerable upper-back area of the enemy. The terrain sustained some pock marks or plops of poison goo, as the bullets strafed around the chosen virus.

"Take this aid my allies!" Aya shouted out as she tossed out two beams of darkness at her allies. Assuming they accepted the aid, a barrier of shadows formed around the fighter plane and a casing of dull and blackened scales formed over the armor of Sparks. The pilot pulled up and took back to the sky as Drago launched a series of attacks at the two Recessed Passes. He shot a bolt of lightning and Recessed Pass A, while he threw a wooden boomerang toward Recessed Pass B. The bolt of lightning exploded upon impact with the enemy, spreading electric bolts to the sides and behind. The boomerang spun through the air and crashed into the area around Recessed Pass B, carving through the enemy duo there.

With only a few targets left to take care of, Sparks tried to get in a quick theft while drago and the girls fixed up everyone's ailments. The Flintlock tried to twist and rotate on its treads while it took a bead on Drago, but Sparks was quick enough to stay behind it and avoid its mangling roller. What Drago would see, was a familiar, smaller targeting scope pop up from the tank which beaded him, and then fired an incredibly fast laser shot with precision accuracy in his direction. He wasn't caught off guard by the hyper accurate shot this time, but even his best effort at avoiding the beam couldn't stop it from managing to clip him, just barely. The shot itself didn't make it past his defences, but the same jolt he'd felt the first time he'd fought a tank like this pulsed through him and he felt a portion of his customiser go dark. He didn't lose his flight this time, but the section that shut off would have been a considerably more concerning one, if not for the fact that the fight was nearly done.

Shaking it off, he quickly positioned himself to obliterate the fallen Volgear before it could cause any harm, while the twins took a side each and proceeded to brutally destroy the remaining structures on the field, shattering and opening up the recessed overhangs and letting some light in on the hiding Marus. Nimble as they were none of the falling rubble gave them any trouble, and the small spark balls responded by shooting small bolts of electricity up at the girls in unison. They were a little spotty and blind, and that helped; between cases of poor aim and nimble dodged, only on spark managed to find its target. Suzume's barrier absorbed the bolt that caught her, but there was something else very strange about it, and after a moment of uncertainty, the already small girl shrank, very suddenly, to look as though she was about seven inches tall at best, while her clothing now seemed to be made of a selection of well tailored, but barely covering, birch leaves. While the glitch persisted, she'd find that it was purely a visual effect, and she could move just as far and as fast as she cold before, and still wield all of her weapons with the same efficiency she was used to. she just looked like a pixie, and her voice had gotten very small.

Sparks, meanwhile, had managed to slip round to a position where the tank's rear generator and drove his sword into just the right spot to cause the powerful virus to shudder, smoke and then go still. Nearby, Drago was done with the Volgear and sent a second icy blizzard to wash over the two Marus that were nearest it. Neither seemed to be harmed by the cone of cold, the pair dancing about in place and ending up unharmed by the buffet, but the poison section beneath them coalesced into a much safer stretch of ice for the time being, as the recess was completely blocked.

Sparks still had a swing left in his sword, and the suddenly safe passage gave him just the right opportunity to dart across as swing wide at the two hard-to-hit viruses. One he cut cleanly, destroying it. The other curled around his blade and attempted to counter with a sharp, close range tazer attack, but it was stopped cold by his barrier.

Above, the AirRaid pilot had done a loop, picking targets, but as one fell after another, it was forced to settle on taking a shooting run at one of the other Maru viruses — which it could see now, thankfully. It selected on and unleashed its machine gun; many of the shots missed, but just enough connected that the virus lost its integrity and dispersed into the air. Drago had an attack each for the remaining two viruses, one on each side, and by good fortune and good aim, he managed to connect with each of them, with attacks powerful enough to obliterate the last remaining resistance in the area.

Suzume eventually returned to her normal size, though it took a little while. Unless someone cured the glitch early, then a quirk of its resolution saw her returned to full size and easy visibility a few seconds before her outfit returned to normal as well.

This virus family is positively deadly when fighting on Furnace Terrain, to the point where the players are at a severe disadvantage. Unless you just have it in for the player, try not to combine the two very often. I'm serious about this. -Pally

TinHawk V1TinHawk V1 (TinHawk)

TinHawk is a combination of the Fishy, Genin, and Typhoon viruses. It appears to be a large, dark brown bird, with razor sharp wings and short but thick legs and feet. But it does have yet another trick for the unwary...

Joseph spoke directly to Sparks. "Time to wrap it up, I wanna hit the shop on the home."

"Good job my friends. It was a great workout, and I enjoyed our travels together today. I think it's about time we call it a day though. My master has a stop to make before we head home." Upon finishing the battle Sparks went to each member of his team. Offering Drago a bow followed by a strong handshake. Following that he offered both the twins a gentle hug, "It was great teaming with y'all, hopefully I've been fully forgivin for driving the cart off the Dam." With a light chuckle, he would await their response before turning around and heading back towards Netfrica.
DragonierMan returned the handshake. "I'll be seeing you later partner." Suzume gave Sparks a big hug, then backed up and gave a salute. "See you later, Sir Sparks!" Aya returned the hug she was given reluctantly. She didn't seem like a huggy person. "Yeah, sure. You are forgiven." Aya then punched him on the shoulder. "Just don't do it again, alright?"

Then they all waved at Sparks as they jacked-out in beams of various colors.
