Data Mining 101

A flash of light and a crack of thunder heralded a portal into the SciLabs Network. DragonierMan and his SPs, Aya and Suzume, stepped through from the cold of Sharo. Beholding a metropolis of curving roads of light and the zigzag of circuitry.
A few minutes after Dragonierman arrived in the networks, Trent came crashing in as well. The bright beams of light collected near to the awaiting navi. They quickly vanished to show Trent and Sasha there, ready to look around these data mines. Trent was stretching out his limbs and sides as he walked, glad to have his health back from the network switch. Whatever it was that over took Dragonierman, it was useful.

"Fill me in on what's going on here." Trent said.
"Apparently, we are going to be looking for a data terminal in this Net. From there Magistrate will try to find the information My Lord requires," DragonierMan explained, then stopped. "Which reminds me, you haven't been introduced to Magistrate yet. Sorry if it caught you off-guard. Magistrate was created in order to oversee My Lord's work. We are all linked." The knight adjusted his gloves before setting off. "Let us be quick about it then."

[Requesting Battle 1.]
"Understood." Trent said while listening to the objective of this adventure. As Dragonierman explained the existence of Magistrate and why he was overtaken, Trent looked to Sasha and pointed to Dragonierman then to his own head. It was a way of saying, 'See I knew it' to the Dog. Sasha seemed to understand, and hugged less closely to Trent's side.

"That does explain a lot," Mark chimed in. "All of you being linked is why he could over take you like that. Let's get to finding this terminal here while we are still involved in this network."

Trent took the rear, following the lead of Dragonierman as they began their search.

{Battle 1}
As the two navis, and the handful amount of SPs that followed behind them, moved along the Scilab network in need of Dragonier's work. However, like any other things, a group of viruses stood in their way. Scattered all over the metal floors, but they all turned towards the navis at once, immediately turning hostile!

"Scatter."

The twins looked at and gave each other a nod, then they split. Aya went left and Suzume went right. Their shadows grew out behind them as they ran, stretching.

Snap.

An inky substance separated itself from each of their shadows. Quickly they coalesced from flat 2D planes, to 3D silhouettes of curvy females. The shadows drained away from the forms, leaving two more identical, blond-haired girls.

The four girls began crisscrossing each others paths as they ran, weaving around the battlefield. Spinning and leaping and ducking. It would be hard to pick out the originals from this mess, unless you were paying close attention the whole time.

But that would be hard.

As DragonierMan rushed into battle. Drawing all attention to himself. His boots eating up the ground as he ran. Something about the color red was always considered an ill thing in these virus-haunted times. As such, DragonierMan targeted the red glow of cube-shaped viruses with his charge.

He barreled down at the first red-faced cube. His legs pumping and his arms beating as he tore across the battlefield. The air whistled and lashed around him as he dashed at the virus. Attempting to run it over.

However, the two cubes were not positioned close enough to each other to strike them in one go. So he had to do two. As he appeared again in his starting position, legs still pedaling, he charged the other one. He had kept his momentum from the first charge, and thus spent less time crossing the distance to the second cube. Barreling through the spot of the possibly stationary virus.

White flames erupted from the ground around him as he slowed to a halt. As the flames rose they began alternating colors: yellow, then red, then blue. Then they had consumed his form. He was fully wreathed in a mantle of dancing, colorful flames.

He shifted his feet and stretched out his arms. They bobbed in the air before him, reaching out of the flames, like the heads of some fiery serpents seeking prey. Ready to snap at the unwary attacker.

The mantle of flames roared and crackled around the three-headed dragon. The hydra readied himself for the counter attack. Bobbing and weaving his three heads, and striking out to deflect away boomerangs and other projectiles.

When the attacks ceased, at least for the moment. Then the three "mouths" opened. A blaze of fiery missiles erupted forth to bathe the blue-colored cube virus in fire. They flurry of bolts came on in a great stream, lancing across the battlefield. They scattered haphazardly around the target, spreading flames everywhere. Tiny pockmarks furrowed the ground where each bolt exploded.

Trent held his hand back to Sasha, ordering him to stop as they approached the viral group. With a snap of the wrist and a fast sign, the dog reached his back foot up to his collar, and dropped out the protection cube, which was promptly stomped on. A blue sheen overtook the dog, lighting up quickly before disappearing and returning the animal to normal. The barrier was in place. Sasha kept his head low and his eyes at the ready as he observed the surroundings. Trent was watching everything as well, noting how far spread out all of the viruses are. There was no way he would be able to get into close combat and cause as much panic as he normally did. "Mark, which chips?"

Mark blinked in the display at first, caught of guard by the notion of Trent asking him for chip assistance. He happily started to look over the field though, thinking quickly on which chips would be good. "Well, With how spread out they are, we need to use chips that whip out a lot but aren't dependent on a wide sweeping attack to do it. The metagel will handle this nicely, as will the kunai chip. Another good choice is the Wavearm. I think these would be the best. Would also give you a nice chance to pick off the nearest target with some knife attacks. I think those are the best chips we have for not using wide attack to hit lots of targets. Machinegun is another choice." Mark slotted in all four and allowed Trent to pick which he wanted.

Trent sorted through the choices, and quickly found a way to use them all. He opened the fight by starting up the metalgel chip. Once the chip was activated, three of the viruses formed above three of the boomer viruses, and then all together plummeted down to the ground at a fast speed, seeking to absorb and overtake the boomers in their gel squishy forms.

Next Trent started to move i on the nearest virus, which he thought was the final boomer that he hadn't selected. He watched what his allies actions where, and chose to send the three kurai towards the three cubes, to help ensure the deletion of the batch. He pulled balanced knives out of his leg straps, and threw each on at each cube, his arm flinging them powerfully forwards. Trent got his feet back under him and moved in on the boomer. Heavy feet crashed unto the panels, but the any of the effects of the terrain never reached his system.

Trent led his charge with his right hand, the brass knuckle gripped knife gripped in reverse. He moved to the boomer, his right hand readied for a punching strike. Trent extended the punch beyond the virus, letting the blade slash through the target on the follow through. Trent wasted no time in finishing out his combat tactic, and raised his large boot to kick the enemy backwards. Trent stepped backwards slightly from the area of the assault, and started to upload another chip.

A machine gun appeared in Trent hands, which he raised to his shoulder and secured it tightly to his frame. Trent dropped down to one knee for bracing himself more before firing the shots down the lanes, hopefully knocking out a few more chunks from the health totals before him. Once the final shots where fired, he discarded the machinegun and before it hit the ground the data disappeared from the nets.

Trent had one final attack lined up, which he sent into his right blade. The blade didn't look any different, but it acted very different as Trent slammed the blade into the nets. The stab into the ground sent a large wave of energy towards one of the inner most cubes. It was the one that was targeted less by both of the fighters. Trent stood up and observed the damages.

DragonierMan ordered his Support Programs to act as distractions, circling around the viruses, while he stepped into the foray himself. He managed only to crash into one of the Cubes and a Boomer, though its metallic head parried off his advance, causing the Navi to veer away. Meanwhile, Trent summoned up some Slimeys to help as his dog protected herself, all of which managed to kill off their respective targets, as death from above was not covered in their Boomerang Protection Scheme(tm), and some throwing knives only served to deepen some wounds.

DragonierMan continued to dash about, smacking yet another cube on its side. The remaining viruses attempted to counterattack, with the cubes releasing some beams of electrical and curative natures. The attack was fired at DragonierMan, but he was ready, and stepped out of its way easily. Trent executed the last remaining Boomer with ease as he leapt towards it and sliced it up. Finally, some MachineGun action from both parties ensured that all enemies were safely and thoroughly deleted.

With four simultaneous poofs of smoke, the quadruplets vanished. As the haze settled, the twins re-emerged from the dragon's shadow. Taking their places at his side once more, they looked around the blasted landscape filled with viral corpses slowly simmering away. "Well that was quick," stated Suzume. "Not a bad start," Aya mused.

DragonierMan was wandering through the battlefield, looting. He kicked over the mush of data that was a Boomer and took hold of its weapon, remarkably intact. He yanked it free with a grunt and held it up, shaking the gunk data off. "This will do for an appetizer," he said before he transferred the weapon to Destin's PET. The boomerang fizzled away as it was absorbed, popping out another chip.

Then something glittered on the ground, catching the eyes of Aya. She bent down and wiped some dust off a litter of tiny black and purple crystal-chips. "Hmm..."

"What's up Aya?" Suzume asked as she walked over to where Aya was crouching. Her eyes caught the sparkle and shifting colors of the tiny objects spread about Aya's feet. "Ooo, what are those?"

"I'm not sure, we should probably collect them though. Who knows, they might be valuable."

It did not take Aya and Suzume long to pick up all the bugfrags that they could see from the ground around them and send them off to Destin's PET. They collected one more than a dozen such crystal-chips. They, however, missed an equal pile near Trent and Sasha.

DragonierMan was busy peering into the distance as Aya and Suzume stood up. "I do not see a terminal here. Let us continue until we find one." He turned toward Trent's position and called across the battlefield. "No terminal yet. Are you continuing with us?" he asked. Suddenly, a strange tingling sensation struck the navi as he looked at Trent. They had know each other for a time and had battled together, and against each other. And for some reason or another, DragonierMan thought he could see through Trent's eyes for a moment. Feel his thoughts.

Then he closed his eyes and shook his head, clearing the clouds from his mind. No, better to focus on the task ahead. "What say you?"
Sasha knew the routine once the battle was over. His nose was on the ground sniffing around the remaining data trying to locate the bugfrags left behind. Sasha was getting a nice collection of bugfrags at this point, maybe soon they would come into use with actually upgrading his systems. Trent was growing tired of his precious companion not being able to help out much. Sasha was busy at work while Trent collected his spoils.

He sent over the zenny data he could find and tired to locate some chip data, but none could be found. Oh well, not a big loss. Trent waited as the twins finished gathering their own bugfrags. Trent heard Dragonierman addressing him, and turned to listen. "I will stay for now." Trent was getting used to being around Dragonierman at this point. He didn't just deal with him anymore. After the various fights they had done together, and against one another, Trent was getting used to how the two fight as a pair. He could hold his own that was for sure. Maybe he wasn't so bad.

Trent whistled for Sasha and waited for Dragonierman to be ready. Once he led the way Trent would follow again.

{Battle 2}
The group moved onward to try to find a data terminal.

[Requesting Battle 2.]
Moving further through the Science Labs network, the team found some more viruses along their way in search of the terminal. Their travels had them walking into a rather magnificent setting, which was a large white pillar of light going high up into the sky. From the sights around SciLab, one would deduce that it was a datastream, but its size was above-average compared to the others. Around the datastream were three terminals, each of which had a red, blue, and green-lit screen.

Of course, what would an important-looking place be without viruses? To the left and right of the datastream, two odd planet-like viruses, grey in color, floated above a ring of glowing panels. Orbiting them were a few Satellite viruses, sweeping their targeting systems about. Below the viruses, some HardHeads were standing guard, and a few Ratty were scurrying about. Naturally, their reaction to Navis approaching was to completely ignore everything they were doing and switch to murder mode.

Aya and Suzume both let out noises of awe as the five came to stand in front of an impressive sight. Even DragonierMan had to give out a whistle. "I think we have found what we are looking for." He turned to the group. "Be careful not to damage anything."

The twins nodded, even if it was quite obvious, and probably didn't need saying.

DragonierMan turned toward the viruses as a large wooden boomerang formed from the air in his hands. He cocked his elbow and shifted around until he was in a good throwing position. He took careful aim at the giant, floating, spherical viruses. They did not look, at first glance, very maneuverable. So he hoped that he could take out both of the planet-like viruses with one good throw.

Aya and Suzume moved together off to the left of DragonierMan. They formed another set of twins out of shadowstuff before taking off. They weaved around each other as they ran off to the side, sowing confusion as four identical bodies crisscrossed paths. They tried to move away from the monolithic pillar of light, while simultaneously circling the battlefield and presenting a target. Acting as distractions and a means of splitting up their foes.

A few moments later DragonierMan released his weapon. It sliced through the air in a graceful arc. Growing fat and more deadly from the glowing solar panels it passed over.

DragonierMan then watched the viruses around him. If the scurrying rodents or stationary turrets hadn't gotten him by now, they were most likely gunning for him. He tried to weave his own path around the battlefield, jumping over rats and ducking under cannonballs. DragonierMan was moving off to his right as he attempted to circle around the battlefield from the other side. He tried to follow the planet viruses with their satellites, shouldered through the return fire and ducking under a data pipe before coming to a stop.

He reached up his hands to catch the boomerang on its return flight. Wasting little time, he braced his feet and cocked his elbow for another throw. Then waited for the viruses to slow.

Stepping forward, he hurled the half-moon blade at his foes. The boomerang arced up high and slashed across the battlefield in another beautiful, wide arc. Again it engorged itself on the delicious solar energies as it flew. Spinning faster and sharper with each passing moment.

Trent observed the large data stream with an eager eye. That was a good fast find, which was nice he wasn't in the mood to up and leave in the middle of the mission, no matter how important matters were otherwise. Though this may not be the exact info, Trent had a feeling it was a good start. He turned his focus towards the viruses now, passively giving the hand signal to Sasha to activate the barrier. He wasn't even thinking when he issued the order, but rather was simply scanning the area.

The dog reached up, knocked out the cube, and pressed it into the dirt with a large paw. Sasha was bright blue for a moment before the light faded to a simple glowing outline for the barrier to be in place. He lowered his chest to the ground and snarled as a sign to Trent that the barrier was in place.

"Dragonierman is eying the viruses on the other side of the field rather closely. I think he going to be assaulting their position, lets get the other half," Mark started. He shifted through the chips, finding the aurahead and a few others. "With the aurahead chip we should be able to knock out those tough viruses, regardless of the protection they have. I sent the other break chip along with your personal favorite, the wide sword. Take out the hat and rats. Hah. That rhymes. See?" Mark was chuckling at his discovery. Trent was not amused.

Trent agreed with the plan though. Due to the new chips he was rather well equipped to deal with the immobile and tough viruses. Trent wanted to Start by getting his feet moving to line up the straight shot attack. With a fast movement to the flank of the viruses, he started to upload the chip. Once in position the knife on his side was ready, which he withdrew quickly and pulled it back behind his head. He held it by the hungry steel, letting the blade fly straight into the two targets.

Trent should be near the pesky rat viruses. They would quickly cause him issues if he wasn't careful. He needed to get his feet moving again, be light on his toes. He withdrew two knives, each held in the classic grips he fights with. He started with the rat nearest to him, and took a glancing slash as he passed by in a flash. He bounced and jumped, keeping his weight light; here and there. He ducked and weaved over to the mouse further away and gave another glancing slash. Now he was on full assault.

His two blades extended and grew into the chip modified versions. A sinister smirk covered his face as he started to attack. With how quick and small the viruses were, it would be hard to get all three in one even slash. He would need to attack the group a few times to finish them off good and proper. He led with his right hand, taking a reverse grip slash across the three. He spun off the force of the attack on his toes, and let his left hand slash horizontal as he spun, sending one more attack their way.

The two blades faded in the glow and returned to normal as he jumped and twisted backwards, getting out of the way of any returning attacks. Trent couldn't get any more attacks going. The viruses were on to his attack pattern by now, and couldn't get his feet moving fast enough for anything else. Rather than request a chip, he kept dodging backwards to ensure he didn't take hits.

After finding what they wanted to find, DragonierMan and Trent's team got to work, with Suzume and Aya running diversion tactics and Sasha just trying to stay not-dead. DragonierMan whipped up some cool boomerangs, and let them loose on the battlefield. It managed to clip two of his intended targets, and delete two of them. Meanwhile, Trent pulled up an AuraHead-imbued knife, and let it fly towards the HardHeads. His aim went true, and both of them were impaled painfully and swiftly. A few moves on his part, and he was smack in the middle of the Ratty group. They scattered upon his arrival, though he caught two of them with his blade.

This did not seem to be the best of ideas, however, as they suddenly turned red, and increased their speed after being injured! As a result, he could only catch one of them with his following WideSword attack, which was the one he hadn't touched with his glancing strikes earlier. They launched some rat-shaped missiles at him, though the seasoned fighter's swift moves allowed him to avoid the attacks with ease. DragonierMan, on the other hand, had some debris flying his way, which had been orbiting around the BigBang virus he didn't delete. He managed to step out of its way, but that landed him into the Satellite's sweeping scans, causing the virus to immediately get a lock on him!

As Aya and Suzume weaved along the outside of the battlefield, they felt a sudden shiver run up their collective spines. Something was targeting their master. They turned as one to find a beam of light connecting the last satellite and DragonierMan. "Intercept, Suzume."

"On it, Aya."

They both called to each other before they slipped daggers out of thin air and threw them at the satellite in one graceful motion. They went on the attack and their shadows followed suit. The thin daggers sailed like arrows across the battlefield to strike at the side of the floating gun-platform while their clones darted in front of the targeting beam of the satellite.

DragonierMan immediately summoned a golden shield in his left hand and hunkered behind it. Hoping that the satellite wouldn't blow him away as the decoys attempted to confuse their opponent into locking onto their shadowed forms.

The navi then moved to brace himself for the attack. He shifted himself to face toward his right, his shield hand and shoulder facing toward the satellite, as he tried to present as small of a target area to the lock-on beam. He looked like a fencer with a shield instead of a sword. His steel armor gleaming.

After the threat passed, DragonierMan moved across the battlefield to line himself up with the enemy. He tried to make sure that nothing valuable was between himself and his opponents. Then he dug in his heels and aligned himself with his foes.

He raced forward as his opponents dropped their guard. He leaped at them over the consoles, careening through the air to collide smack dab where they floated. Shoulder thrust outward to spear them in the ribs. Bowling them over if his aim was true.

Trent was sorely disappointed in his inability to destroy the rat viruses in one go. He would need to stay moving and stay accurate to knock down these viruses the rest of the way. Those bombs they let out could prove to be bad, but could prove to be even worse for Sasha. Trent turned to his dog and issued a hand signal, still in the non vocal part of the training, and informed Sasha to get moving and running around. Sasha turned and started to run the other direction, to get further from the fight.

Trent turned back to the Rattys. He could feel the presence of some chips in his system. Mark was jumping the gun, but the granted chips would prove to be very useful against these foes indeed. Most were close combat chips, but a gun or two found its way into the fray. Mark had given Trent far more chips than he could use at this time and had done it on purpose. "Lets see how you handle your own decisions," Mark said. He knew he would have to change how Trent thinks about fighting in a minor way if he wanted to last for long in the rings.

Trent took out a large knife of his and took a bounding leap towards the rats. The knife he pulled out had a curved tip and an eagerness to be used. Once Trent landed his body was under control of the chips attack, and spun him around and around trying to slice and dice the two rats nearby. No sooner was he there, he was back out of the combat. Trent knew these rats were faster than him, and there no sense running around with them like cat and mouse. He backed away, back peddling out of the fray and pulled out more chip induced knives from his side.

The three blades rested in his left hand, and were gripped by the blade. Trent snapped his left hand over and grabbed a knife to throw at the targets. He pulled his arm back as powerfully as he could, taking aim and throwing the knife down the field. He repeated this process on the other rat, and then threw another at the first again. It would only take one of those hitting to do what he needed. At this point Trent thought a return attack would be coming and took evasive light hops around the area.

Trent kept his light stance, knowing that two bombs or more could be heading towards him. After another moment of watching the field, Trent pulled up on the guns that was granted to him by Mark. It was a classic shotgun chip, something he hadn't used in a while. The gun formed in his hans and took the shape of a spas-12 shotgun, which he promptly raised to his shoulder and braced against his body. He tried to line up the two rats as best as possible, but the spread on a shotgun wad was only so good. He pulled the trigger and then pulled the pump down on the chamber. Good thing he had a second shot, just for the fact that a shotgun can easily miss. He fired again. Trent lowered the gun and looked to Dragonierman.

"More shinies!" squeeled Suzume as her and Aya began picking up the strange currency. "We should really figure out what these are later," Aya noted as they collected. DragonierMan headed over to the consoles and began examining them.

"I wonder if the color of the terminal means something?" he asked aloud to no one in particular. Then his eyes began to glow again. Magistrate placed DragonierMan's hands on the Green Terminal and activated it.

>Log on to Green Terminal.
Sasha happily turned around in a flash and skipped over towards the viral data he could find. His nose was on the ground, searching and sniffing for the data to munch on. While that was happening, Trent kept his knives drawn and moved up to the data stream. He had no idea what information that Dragonierman was after on the terminals and chose to keep to play look out while Dragonierman checked out the area. He kept his stance low and his eyes open. His knives were at the ready as the area was scanned for movement that could hinder the mission. Each knife held tightly he kept the watch.

Sasha jumped over to join him, hugging his massive form close and letting his eyes scan the opposite side of Trent's, ready to give the signal if the group were to be joined by others.

Mark was busy turning and tilting the camera on the PET to get himself a better view of the data stream. The site was rather wonderful and interesting to look at, almost like a mini virtual wonder. Mark was aware Trent was fighting back his urges to observe the stream for the good of the group. Hopefully if the pair remained alone in the nets, Trent would get time to look at the stream for his own satisfaction. Just in case though, Mark started a recording of his own surveillance of the stream.
