Homeward Bounce

DragonierMan, Suzume, and Aya, wings unfurled, flew through the spacious skies of Netopia. Swept across the amber waves of grain. And came up and over the purple mountains majesty.

They had returned to the NET equivalent homeland of their Operator, Dustin Obscura. Plunging into the next, deeper, darker part. And they were going to ravage it.

Requesting Battle 1.
Flying through the skies of Netopia Rogue, the population seemed to be understandably rather sparse compared to if they had taken a ground route, but that didn't mean that the area was completely barren at high altitude. Soon after they entered the Rogue sector, the trio could hear a faint thumping sound in the distance, as if someone was banging on a desk rather violently. Investigating it would reveal a small chunk of land, seemingly dropped into the middle of nowhere and floating of its own accord. The thumping sound originated from what appeared to be its sole inhabitant -- a metallic Cragger golem smashing its fists around in a fit of rage.

Of course, it wasn't unwarranted, as upon closer inspection, it seemed like the Cragger virus was being harassed by a gaggle of electrical viruses. Two of them were spherical Sparkler satellites, swerving in and out of the edge of the floating island, and two more were tiny electrical Maru sprites, hovering about the middle of the island, about a device that was stuck directly into the paneling that made up the floating island. The device's bottom half, stuck into the island, seemed to be an embedded disk of some sort, pulsing with a vibrating beat. Its top half was a tall beacon of some sort, with a tiny metal ring at its very top of its antenna, emitting a faint laser beam every now and then to some far off location in the skies. The harassing viruses seemed to notice DragonierMan and company approaching, and directed their attention towards the new visitors. One of the Sparklers seemed more raring to go than the others, already launching itself towards DragonierMan!

Maru-10Maru-10 (Maru)

Maru are rather small floating spheres of electricity, with two beady black eyes. They never appear solo, and will always have at least one other Maru at their side. While they're exactly as sturdy as one would expect from a ball of electrical energy, they can inflict bugs with their electric shocks. Maru are highly intelligent for being what they are, and love to combine tactics with others of their kind to make sure they each get to shock the enemy at maximum efficiency. Their small size and ability to move in any direction makes them extremely hard to hit.

Area: Netopia, NAXA

Type: Elec
Possible Rewards (Per Virus): MaruBlaster2, Zenny
Special: OmniShoes
Special: Taser: If this virus is within Melee range of an enemy, its attack's accuracy is A. If an enemy uses a close range chip, they may counterattack immediately following that attack as a free action. Multi-hit close range chips only trigger one counterattack.
Special: All attacks that target this virus are treated as being two accuracy ranks lower (i.e. A is treated as C) against that virus.
Special: Can use Barrier once.

MetalCraggerMetalCragger (Cragger)

Craggers are pretty easy targets, given their size. They also move very rarely, and when they do they move slowly. Their dodge rate is abysmal. They generally rely on their HardBody defense, which reduces non-break damage by half, but doubles break damage. They have high attack power and AoE, but their accuracy is generally bad as their attacks are easy to follow and take time to deliver. Their attack is executed as a Drop Attack, and thus attacks from above, and not head-on. Targets caught underground within this attack's AoE range take an additional 50 Null damage that ignores all defenses.

Area: Netopia, Sharo, Hades Isle

HP: 200
Attack Damage/Effect: 90 Null + Break + Panel Break + WideAttack

-- Rogue Battle 1 Ready? Start!! --
They approached the viral group from the sky and noticed that not all of the viruses were playing nice with each other. Typical. They were chaotic beings after all. Also there was a place of interest that their hunt had brought them too. Apparently there was a floating island that also doubled as some sort of satellite. Broadcasting some sort of signal. It was of course no surprise that it had attracted a few electric viruses. One of which started to make a beeline for their little group hovering with ill intent.

And ill intent they would receive. DragonierMan finally had the perfect opportunity to test a new toy he had gotten from his Lord. He raised his hand in front of him as he flew. His armor hardened, a bubble formed around him, his eyes and reflexes became sharper, and a small portal appeared. Flying out of the portal was a P-47D Thunderbolt with a dragon-mouth insignia nose art (similar to the popular shark-face insignia, but dragon themed). Its engine roared and its propeller spun rapidly as it exited the portal, driving it towards the battle. Drago directed it towards the two Maru-10Maru-10 (Maru)

. The wind screamed around the cone of the missiles as they flew. They were set for direct contact and not air-burst, so they would be even more accurately guided to the target instead of fired-and-forgot.

B. There was an explosion of energy as the creature materialized a moment before collision, leaping jaws first at the electrically-charged virus. After its attack it probably fell into the expanse of Missing Terrain, disappearing from view. If it managed to fall onto the platform, it would probably avoid damaging the Anti-Gravity Module and Directional Beacon, and instead bite at whatever viruses it could get at while making lots of Grass Terrain.

B below with Buster Shots from two opposite directions, high above. They held their right arm with their left as they circled, firing a bolt of gray energy each toward the target. It probably wasn't considered to be carrying any weapons, so the Disarm effect imbued into their attacks probably did nothing. However, as the twins attacked, they continued to use their advantage of being in the ultimate "high ground" to stay away from the virus if it then decided that it would try to fly up and strike at them. The great arch of wood arced through the air, spinning as it went, and attempted to strike anything that came within its path. Starting off the attack with a triple pronged assault, DragonierMan focused his efforts on the Maru, while his companion programs attacked the incoming vitus. Unfortunately, the attack on the Maru wasn't entirely sufficient to wipe it out, allowing it to fire on Suzume in retaliation. As a result, her shot as well as Aya's, went a little off the mark, and the Sparkler was able to reach DragonierMan unscathed. However, the Navi was too quick for it, and swerved out of the way to meet its identical comrade for a deadly WoodDragon attack, clearing it off the map. The Maru focused their efforts on attacking the SPs as they rounded the island, and unfortunately, one shot did manage to land on Suzume. (-40, Glitch) The glitch-ridden electrical ball infected her systems, causing her flight systems to start to fail! Meanwhile, DragonierMan summoned up a powerful Boomerang, and by some stroke of luck, managed to land the wooden weapon on every remaining hostile target before a flash of light erupted out, blinding everyone from the sudden burst. The Cragger golem, which had been watching the aerial battle rather helplessly, roared out in indignation.

The three navis activated their healing signatures, flooding their body with curative data. The blindness left their eyes. However, even though her wounds were closing up, Suzume could not cure the glitch done to her flight systems. She let out a worried scream as she fell towards the inky darkness of the Missing Terrain below. DragonierMan, refreshing all his programs, turned towards the falling Suzume and zipped over to her. He reached out with both arms to catch her. Suzume also reached out with both her arms to tried to grab Drago as he attempted to catch her.

With the aerial side of the encounter cleaned up, Drago made sure to catch his falling SP before she could tumble too far, saving her from the abyss, or at least from some hearty embarrassment. Unaware that the majority of targets were dealt with, the thoroughly blinded pilot continued to spray gunfire everywhere, though fortunately it didn't hit any of its allies, and even managed to land a chip shot or two on the Cragger that remained. It didn't do much damage, of course, and a moment or two later Aya nullified its contribution with a resounding fist crush that left behind only damaged cracks in the ground, and, more importantly, no virus.

At this point, the fighter pilot clocked out, fading away, and left the trio to round up the spoils of their skirmish on their own. Suzume's glitch eventually fizzled out and she regained her own aerial capabilities, but that aside, the navi and his SPs had a chance to look at the odd sky island properly now, if they wished to, though they could just as easily fly onwards once they'd gathered their loot.

Investigate Directional Beacon and Anti-Gravity Module.
Gathering up the spoils from the battle, DragonierMan investigated the strange device that was installed into the floating isle in the middle of nowhere. As the devices were relatively featureless, there wasn't much they could investigate besides the beacon's intermittent beeping and laser beam emission. With the viruses gone, however, they were able to see the beam's path clearly, firing its way through the clouds. The pillowy clouds parted briefly to show a much larger distant isle floating in the air, this time with a more interesting construct. In the middle of the faraway island, a large crater housed what appeared to be an enormous metal dome, though at this distance there wasn't much else to discern.
Suzume took a moment to test her wings to make sure they were still functional. And was happy to see that they were. So, the three took to the air again and headed toward the much larger distant isle floating in the air, following the beam's path. The island looked pretty far away. The chance of a mid-air encounter with flying viruses was probably pretty high.

Requesting Battle 2.
As the trio approached the faraway island and the clouds cleared out slightly, it became apparent that the little islet that they had been on wasn't a lone flier. Spread throughout the skies, countless little pieces of land floated in place, each transmitting a tiny glimmer of light towards the large island they were approaching. Some of them had a few viruses floating about, but they seemed to be either dormant or too far away to notice them. Eventually, they reached the edge of the cratered island-- where a surprise met them.

Just near the edge of the crater in the middle of it, DragonierMan and co. spotted a long line of viruses lining up towards a small cape at the very edge, being comprised of assorted types and sizes alike. The line was coming from a large tunnel that poked out of the crater's edge like a subway entrance. When a sizable group of viruses reached the cape, the whole chunk of land itself glowed bright yellow, and swung upwards, launching all the viruses that were on it like a catapult into the skies. If DragonierMan were to observe it further, it seemed like they were following the faint laser lines that seemed to be converging on the large island, towards the huge dome structure in the middle.

The dome was both imposingly large and starkly featureless, situated in a deep circular crater that looked to be about at least 20 feet deep and a mile wide. What looked to be a small recessed entrance at the side seemed to be the only feature it had, as all of the faint lasers from the surrounding islets were simply fired onto the dome's surface, having no receptacles of any sort.

There wasn't much sightseeing to be done, however, as some of the viruses lining up spotted the trio, and two pairs of viruses flew up to meet them. One of the virus pairs, the humanoid-looking Twin viruses, fired a couple of preemptive shots at the SPs, but missed. The other flying viruses, a pair of blue UFO viruses, prepared themselves to charge directly towards them, their antigravity-driven saucers whirring in anticipation. Down on the ground, three viruses watched, comprised of a pair of metallic Craggers, as well as a lone Handy. Interestingly, the Handy was holding a gleaming blue data crystal in its hand!

-- Viruses --
TwinnerTwinner (Twins)

Twins viruses appear only in linked pairs, and never in odd numbers. A linked pair of Twins viruses will only link to each other, and not with any other Twins viruses present. The linked pairs are always clustered close together, and move by revolving around each other, which makes them susceptible to AoE. If one of the linked pair is deleted, and the other is not, then the virus that was deleted is revived as a free action immediately after. Both must be deleted within the span of one turn to be truly defeated. Twins viruses act in the following manner: One Twins will attack while the other moves. They then swap roles the next action, with the second virus attacking while the first moves. The virus making the move is counted as making a Dodge. The pattern is not altered even if a Twins is deleted and resurrected. They simply carry on next action as if nothing happened.

Handy Viruses attack by opening a dimensional gate below themselves, and dropping into it. The exit gate opens next to their destination, and they will rise out of it holding an explosive. This explosive is placed on an unbroken panel, and the Handy is free to move after. The use of gates does not count as teleporting, but can be used as a means of dodging as they attack. Gates are only used when attacking, and at no other time. Handy viruses will not set a new explosive until either a turn has passed, or they pass one action without setting a new bomb, whichever comes first. DragonierMan's pre-battle programs lit up as he was once again surrounded by layers of protections and enhancements. "Light 'em up!" he roared as all three navis extended their hands toward the incoming foes. A. They whistled through the air as they all converged on their target, hoping to put it into an early grave. It was possible that the two BlueUFOs would steal two of the three projectiles, plucking them right out of the air. But at least one would potentially make it through and do considerable damage to the virus.

"Scatter!" Drago bellowed out as the three split up. Suzume and Aya flew away in opposite directions, turning slightly to widely circle the island. Drago opened another portal nearby to call on reinforcements and to increase their numbers. This was going to be a tough battle and they would need as much help as possible. The Thunderbolt returned to the field, having fueled up in the small time frame between battles, and ready for a scrap. Drago pointed toward the potentially wounded BlueUFO virus and commanded it to attack. However, if two of the attacks managed to go through and BlueUFO (V2)BlueUFO (V2) (ColorUFO)

B for the attack. The little pilot gave an affirmative salute and drove its plane towards the enemy combatant. Aided by Drago's direction, the pilot quickly got an accurate bead on the enemy flyer, and fired. The DAKKA-DAKKA-DAKKA of its machine guns filled the air as it shot at the virus over and over again. The whir of its engine adding to the din as it pulled out of its attack run and began to climb.

Suzume and Aya weaved through the air, trying to dodge the many, many attacks coming their way. As they circled overhead, they also shot at the BlueUFOs. They prioritized the one they initially attacked, but if that one was dead, they would be shooting at the other one. Twin shots rang out as they pelted at the BlueUFO(s). Chewing the virus up with each hit. Meanwhile, Drago spread his mighty wings, turned toward BlueUFO (V2)BlueUFO (V2) (ColorUFO)

B, and flapped once. Like a rocket he blasted forward and screamed across the heavens. His wings folded close as he rocketed, a mach-cone formed in front of him as his speed continued to increase. It solidified around him like a drill, obliterating all resistance. He slammed through the airspace occupying the BlueUFO, probably barreling right through the virus like tissue paper. His wings unfolded again and he slammed on the brakes. His body underwent so many Gs of stress from the rapid deceleration that it would have all but destroy any real life construct.

But this was the NET, so he didn't die. He was then allowed to wing about and come back on BlueUFO (V2)BlueUFO (V2) (ColorUFO)

B with a cone of green energy. The breath cascaded out from Drago's body and tried to wrap itself around the virus, potentially damaging and confusing its coding. It was also possible that it would simply destroy the being if it had gotten hit by another attack while weak enough. Drago flapped his wings as he went evasive after the attack. Flying in a small circle while he kept his eyes out for any additional attacks coming his way. He then raised his hands and blinded the field with a massive blast of light. A common staple of his battles since he received the weapon. Blinding enemy sensors went a long way towards taking less damage from battle. He had been struck down quite enough for his liking.

The trio went immediately to battle stations as the hostiles engaged. The two UFOs were quick to approach, and each selected a different SP to chase after as Aya and Suzume split up and circled around. Just as one of them sent out a data-stealing tractor beam towards Aya, Drago marked it with a high powered cannon shot, sending the space ship spinning and allowing his SP to dodge the beam at the last moment.

The other chased Suzume, but she turned quickly and fired the chip she had ready before it could beam her to steal it. Her shot followed Drago's mark and slammed into the first chip-stealing thief, sending it crashing to the floating island below. Unfortunately the action slowed the SP up enough that the UFO chasing her caught up, but after scanning its quarry for chip data and finding none left, it emitted a far less friendly particle beam that she didn't manage to move away from in time.

It was a moment too slow to help, truly, but her sister returned the favour a second later, striking the remaining ship with her own cannon shot. It didn't really help Suzume directly, but it was revenge at least. Drago summoned in another reinforcement, which he sicced onto the alien ship. The UFO broke away from Suzume to flee the new attacker, and a quick dogfight ensued across the sky. The result saw the UFO shot down alongside the first one, while the fighter pilot wheeled around to begin looking for a new target.

Down below, the Handy with the Mystery Data, put it down long enough to disappear into a portal, and emerge right alongside where it had just been, carrying what looked like a second one. When it put this data down, however, it bore a clearly marked red 'X' on one facet. It seemed to inspect both datas for consistency, without noticing the mark.

The two Twin viruses, conversely, were a little bit more interested in the fight, and while one danced delicately around its partner, the stationary virus fired a laser shot towards Drago. Comfortable on the wing, he rolled neatly out of the way of the beam without trouble, then ploughed forward in a tremendous dash towards the offender. Ill luck saw the virus begin to move as he attacked, however, and he passed it by as it arced out and around the other twin, which had now stopped in place.

The two metal craggers, down on solid land, looked upwards and raised their fists together. Neither seemed like it was about to move from their comfortable panels, but as they swung their fists downwards, two large metal replicas of them materialised dangerously close to where DragonierMan was flying, and assailed him. A pair of quick twists and turns saw him evade the unexpectedly accurate fists, but only just.

With the zippy UFOs out of the way, Aya and Suzume had a moment to gather themselves and work out what needed attacked next. Moving on down the priority list, the Twin viruses were both closest, and the most vulnerable, so they each took a quick shot at one of the dancing pair. both shots stuck cleanly, despite the unusual movement pattern of the viruses, and Suzume managed to avoid the laser shot that the still one returned to her.

As much as he'd been planning for more resistance from the UFOs, Drago didn't waste his preparation and followed suit, delivering the full brunt of his breath weapon on the two viruses evenly as well. Below, the Handy swivelled to look at the two blue crystals, then picked one up and moved to the other side of the island with it. It appeared to have picked up the genuine one.

Slow to react, the tow craggers had enough time still to raise their fists in unison once more, and slam them down. Drago was in the process of launching his ever-useful blinder chip, and one of the fists managed to clip him roughly as he dodged the other; the blow crushed his barrier, but no more. A moment later, the flash exploded, blinding just about everyone.

Handy2Handy2 (Handy)

Handy Viruses attack by opening a dimensional gate below themselves, and dropping into it. The exit gate opens next to their destination, and they will rise out of it holding an explosive. This explosive is placed on an unbroken panel, and the Handy is free to move after. The use of gates does not count as teleporting, but can be used as a means of dodging as they attack. Gates are only used when attacking, and at no other time. Handy viruses will not set a new explosive until either a turn has passed, or they pass one action without setting a new bomb, whichever comes first. For more info on the bombs Handy viruses use, see below.

Suzume cried out as she was burned by the laser beam. She clutched the burning hole in her armor as the three navis turned on the juice and healed from their wounds. The dark clouds in front of their eyes cleared with the ease of their pain. Suzume, having born the brunt of the damage in the opening exchange, was still wounded even after the healing energies washed over her form. Her wound half-closed, parts of the armor plating reforming over the glowing gap. The wound was mostly cauterized, only a splattering of silver blood remained. Regardless, Suzume was not a happy camper.

Suzume and Aya went on the defensive as DragonierMan flapped his wings and zoomed over to the TwinnerTwinner (Twins)

Quick to recover from the blows they'd taken, Drago and the twins fixed their own blinded sight and moved quickly to capitalise on the dazzled field of enemies. While the Dragonier gave his orders, though, one of the Twins took a lucky shot that managed to connect despite its compromised senses and Drago's own mobility. Despite this stacking of ill-fortune though, all the laser light managed to do was strip away the outermost layer of his other defences.

The fighter plane made a pass at the handy virus, every bit as compromised as most other things in the battle; it did its best, however, and three of the tracer rounds found their mark on the back of the virus just before it sunk into another dark portal. It went in carrying the Mystery data, and came out carrying one as well, this time over the other side of the platform. this Mystery Data, however, had a red LED number displayed on one facet, currently reading '3'. More concerning, perhaps, as it set the disguised explosive down, was that it had ducked into its portal with a genuine data crystal, but hadn't come back out with it.

Drago didn't have time to contemplate this right away as he swooped in to slice and spin at the Twin viruses. The one that had winged him before felt the wrath of his assault and was destroyed, but the other arced smoothly away, just barely ducking outside of this attack as it turned. Aya and Suzume weren't far behind, closing in on the remaining virus swiftly, and Drago climbed gain, but as he did two more massive stone fists materialised in the air close by and rammed down at him suddenly. Fortunately for him, both were just a fraction off their mark and shot down to either side without connecting.

The remaining Twin virus stopped still, releasing a laser of its own towards Drago while it waited for its partner to revive. The laser missed, and a second later Aya and Suzume struck, their swords sweeping in together and, between them, securing a definite strike that removed the virus from their threat list. The Handy virus, running out of allies as it was, reached down into a new portal that it made and retrieved the genuine Mystery data, then began to flee towards the launchpad with it, but Drago followed, striking with a powerful fist blow to the back of its hand that destroyed the virus and sent the data crystal tumbling away a few feet.

He had enough momentum to turn and slam another fist into the nearby Cragger, though the dragonier would likely feel the incredibly solid impact of the punch in a way that would shudder his entire arm; between their own naturally hard bodies, and the protective holy panel underneath, these MetalCraggers were darn solid. The one he struck slid back a few feet, to the edge of the holy Panels; one more shove would get it off them, most likely, but the two were still scanning the skies for enemies. Either they'd given up on trying to hit Drago, or else just wanted to punch things that were high up; either way, they each raised and swung their fists, causing replicas of them to materialise near Aya and Suzume respectively. Luck was with the girls, however, and despite unexpected accuracy, they both managed to twist and wheel out of the way of the massive fists just in the nick of time. Not far away, the data crystal with the 'X' on it burst in a harmless shower of sparks, while the one with the number ticked over to a '2'. The crystal without any markings drifted upwards to right itself after tumbling across the ground, and now hung a few inches off the ground, stable and spinning slowly.

ColorUFOs are able to temporarily steal chip data from their enemy, preventing the use of that battlechip until the end of the battle. ColorUFOs only attack once per turn, maximum, and spend the rest of the turn dodging. This attack is guaranteed to hit unless the target dodges when they attempt their attack, meaning it can be evaded with luck. The attack ignores every form of defence, including any form of stealth. ColorUFOs move and dodge at slightly better than average rates. They are capable of full flight.

With the defenses raised on two of the four allies, and one of them on the attack, that left the last of the group to act. The Thunderbolt's engine chugged along as the fuel indicated started falling fast. It wouldn't be much longer before the pilot would have to return to base. Its vision also had cleared since the last Turn and it could see the battlefield again in all its glory. It looked like most of the enemies had been destroyed, but two pillars of muscle and rock remained. The pilot set its sights on the most injured one of the pair and dove. Its engine screamed as the plane hurtled down towards its opponent. The machine guns roared a BRATATAT! as it pelted the virus with bullets.

Spitting out a gout of fire towards the Craggers, DragonierMan managed to melt the glowing paneling beneath the metallic golems, just as they raised their fists for another attack, this time targeting the DragonierMan as well as the summoned FighterPlane that had been firing at them. Unfortunately, their virtualized fists went wide, and DragonierMan continued his assault with his fellow flier, striking decisively with his enormous hammer while the AirRaid's pilot let loose with its last supply of bullets. Sturdy as the golems were, they were no match for the striking weapon's destructive power as each of them fell within one swing of DragonierMan's might. Ending the battle in style, Aya and Suzume swooped in for the blank rotating blue crystal, leaving the other with a number to fall onto the ground harmlessly before disintegrating. Suzume's master sent her a recovery patch after the fact, erasing any trace that she had ever been hurt. (+40)

The floating island was now still, devoid of any movement. Only fragments of the viruses they had fought remained, though one of the Craggers had conveniently left behind a large enough part of its arm completely intact, which would probably be recoverable into usable data.

In addition, if they were to perk up their ears, they would hear the distantly faint shuffle of an automatic door closing...

-=Viruses=-
TwinnerTwinner (Twins)
