Testing Run Part 2

Cinder Turret Alpha was pleased! It had struck fiercely at the maker's enemy and it's results had been multiplied by the efforts of its comrades! At first it had been nervous about the newer creations, what if they were more favored than itself? Now though, now it understood the tinkerer's wisdom. The Terraformer transformed the terrain into one that would increase the effects of his attacks and the Abductor Unit could drag enemies into place for his shots! Truly such potential for cooperation could not be mere coincidence!

No, this was another sign of the creator's great mind!

A string of seemingly junk data was transferred from the abductor unit's pilot to CTA, and from there the little red gun on legs pulled a substring with a rather upsetting reminder.

'You gonna finish that?'

How dare the virus not die immediately to the carefully orchestrated death brought by the machines of the creator? Its temper hotter than the rounds it shot, the turret took aim at its previous foe again.

——

"Beep! Beep! Beep!"

Astraea heard the definitely not angry beeping from her Cinder Turret and looked over just in time to watch it fire another pair of incendiary rounds at the Shrubby. She nodded in satisfaction and gave the turret a pat as she walked by. She noted the red chassis seemed to be warmer than usual but wrote it off as just the heat residue from its fiery attack.

It wasn't entirely true and she knew it but the fact that one of the turrets she summoned might be sentient wasn't something she wanted to deal with right now.

There were still active viral signatures on the field and she was beginning to form a conclusion that wasn't very favorable to her current design principles.

"The longer a virus stays on the field the more chances it has to attack." She mumbled to herself. It was a fact that was probably common sense to Navigators who spent their time battling, to her it was a hard won revelation. Her footsteps brought her to the side of the StoneCube opposite the NeoMetool. If she could not finish it off in one attack she would have to find other means of dealing with the damage besides soaking it up like a sponge. She thought perhaps that it could protect her from attack the way it had protected the Shrubby from her shotgun earlier.

Her abductor unit tossed a hook almost lazily at the helmeted virus as if its pilot knew the pointlessness of attacking while the helmet was down. Astraea's mouth twitched down at the corner and she spared a moment to type in a command on her belt-pad. A glow gathered around the antenna of her cartoonish blaster and was echoed in growth by a glow in the depths of the barrel.

She trained her eyes onto the form of the NeoMetool cowering in its hat and waited patiently. Her internal clock kept frustratingly accurate count of the microseconds as they ticked by, slight frown firmly in place. The hand holding her blaster trembled with nerves but still the glow in the barrel grew brighter.

With a tacit reminder from one of the other constructs, CTA returned tot he task or eliminating its creator's foes. The shrubby, already distress and out in the open, looked like it was darting directly towards Astraea — in reality it was trying to find shelter by the same block of stone, but the best cinder turret was having none of that. Two shots quickly burned up the rest of the bush-like virus before it could dare intrude upon Astraea's personal space.

Alongside it, the Abductor threw its hook, and whatever the remaining met had been about to do was swiftly interrupted by the edge of the hook catching underneath its helmet at the back. With a startled squeak the virus was pulled forward, flipping over and skidding across the ground on the top of its helmet, while its tiny feet kicked in the air amidst a series of distressed 'meep's. It rocked back and forth on its helmet, struggling, but seemed like it would take a little while to right itself, now. Certainly, it should give Astarea herself enough time to finish charging her blaster and make a clean shot in a moment, one would hope.

The sight of the NeoMettool was funny enough that even Astraea chuckled. She had been so worried about it counterattacking but now it couldn't even do anything! She aimed her blaster and pulled the trigger. A brilliant ball of blue light so bright it was almost white shot out and streaked towards the virus. She couldn't be too cautious when it came to battle.

Her two summoned objects, seeing her target, followed suit.

With the remaining virus haphazardly flipped over, Astraea was able to finish it off at her leisure with some help from her constructs. The battlefield was clear and the mechanist alien was was able to collect the remnant data, which was almost as beneficial as the treasure that was research data, maybe. Amongst the scatterings of convertible zenny, she discovered another cluster that could be reformatted into a chip - by chance it was another copy of the pulsar that she'd already acquired one of, but an extra never hurt.

With that the field was cleared and Astraea was finally able to relax and reholster her blaster. This trip through the nets hadn't been as stressful as her initial one, but she was still glad that it was over. She reached out absent-mindedly to rest her hand on CTA's side for a moment. The warmth beneath her fingertips reminded her that she still had a ways to go. With a fond pat she removed her hand from the object's side before beaming it and the Abductor back to her workshop.

Astraea moved about the field collecting her spoils of war and examining the Missing section of the terrain from a safe distance. A shudder ran down her back and she straightened up from her inspection to step away. There was a rummaging noise that made her look around the field for surviving viruses sharply before she realized the source of the noise. The tension in her shoulders eased and she began walking away from the scene of the fight.

"Operator, I will require chips, if it will be no trouble to yourself."

"Oh-ho? Giving up on your testing or have you collected enough data?"

"I will be continuing to test my creations in conjunction with the chips."

"Ah, okay! Wait, is it because you got another Pulsar? Are you going to start bombing the enemy with your own creations now?"

[Searching for Battle 3, Astraea 115HP]
Thoughts full of plans that her various constructs might not really like quite as much as some of he others, Astrea moved on looking for more targets to conduct research with. Her walk only went a small way before the mostly unassuming network presented a small grassy field, just off to one side, with what looked like a children's sand pit at the edge of it. The sand pit, unfortunately, wouldn't be of much use to any younglings for right now, however, as it seemed to have become the home of a pair of catcy who were, it had to be said, rather far from the desert.

Further back, the great hulking form of a shaggy bear dozed peacefully, but whether it would stay that way was dubious given the hushed whispers and giggling coming from a pair of ghost-like spooky viruses hovering near the middle of the grass and casting occasional glances in its direction. Astraea had about enough time to take in these details before one of the Spooky perked up and looked in her direction, beginning to chatter more loudly and point.

"No really, you need to answer me beca-oh hey virusesseses!" Alex said, his s's slipping away from him a little bit. He spread the collection of chips out on the coffee table next to his plate of food and his adult beverage and then turned his attention back to the tv. "I'm set up and ready to go! Although we really do need to talk about you not bombing your own things! That's just mean!"

"They are code objects that resemble robotic constructions, Operator. Feelings are not a part of their protocol." Astraea replied as she came to a stop once the viruses were within reasonable distance. She was familiar with the ghosts, but the bear and the cactii were ones she had only read about. She could feel her simulated heartbeat speed up and reminded herself that she had access to the most complete virus databases available. Her fingertips flipped up the lid over the keyboard on her belt then scrabbled across the keys. One beam of light later and Cinder Turret Alpha stood by her side, ready to go! It fired almost immediately at the ghosts. It remembered how they had tormented its creator before!

Beep-beep!

"Officially requesting the Shotgun BattleChip, please."

"Nop-Oh, you want that? Okay! But just keep in mind if you want one of the Pulsars you have to promise not to use it on the little red guy you just summoned at the very least." During this chattering Alex was quick to find the requested chip. "BattleChip Shotgun, Slot-in!"

Astraea's brow would have furrowed, if she had one! Her operator seemed weirdly set on this. Instead she got a wrinkle just above her nose as she scrunched her face in confusion. He appeared to be really set on protecting the turret! She pulled her blaster from its holster, the barrel splitting into two as it channeled the chip data. She took a few quick determined strides away from her turret then raised the blaster and fired. "Very well, I accept the terms and conditions you have presented."

"Sounds good! Oh, try not to get beat up as much this time, perhaps?"

Oblivious to the conversation about its well-being going on between creator and operator, CTA arrived on the scene and immediately peppered the nearest spooky with cinder rounds. The ghost let out a small cry and disappeared, teleporting somewhere seemingly out of sight. The other one turned and tried to warp up to Astreae and lick her in the face, but it received a shotgun blast at point blank range for its efforts. Unfortunately, the carry through shrapnel wasn't able to connect with anything else for the time being; it looked as thoug the other spooky had warped off to hide behind the large Teddy... or possibly to harass it into action.

The boom from Astreae's blaster set the beast stirring, and it rolled over slightly, swatting at the air in its sleep, while the two cacty wobbled side to side and bounced their head sections vaguely in the direction of Astraea's first construct. Only very vaguely... they might have been aiming at something else. They weren't the most accurate of viruses.

"Uh-oh. Looks like you might have a grizzly situation on your hands!" Alex crowed as he saw the Spooky disappear over to where the bear was. "How do you wan to handle this?"

"Wait for a moment." Astraea narrowed her eyes at the NetOp's tone because he was using the voice he used whenever he thought he had made a particularly funny joke. In this case it flew over her head. Even though it went against her work ethic was having trouble mustering up the will to research into this particular humor. She mentally added it to her to-do list and contented herself with the fact she had much more pressing issues at the moment.

Like getting rid of some of these pests.

A column of light touched down in the sand near the Cacty then faded away to reveal the Terraformer. The blocky metal construct's antenna tip turned from red to green and the machine raised one of its' four supports then slammed it back into the sand. Blades of grass sprouted from the sand, a lush carpet that quickly spread around the construct and would hopefully be enough to encompass the Cactii in its reach.

The Terraformer opened the mouth-like panel under its two frontal sensors and spat out a tiny, smaller version of itself that tumbled across the ground. With a tiny angry holler, the mini-terraformer hopped to its feet then sprinted away. It's target would soon become clear when it neared the Spooky and flung itself at the ghost. Whether it hit or miss the tiny terraformer would dissipate into junk data and disappear from the fight.

While that was going on Astraea was shaking out the flimsy shield on her wrist and holding it at the ready. Some form of protection in place, she turned her attention to offense. She herself was going to be paying attention to those particular plants as well.

"Operator, requesting Pulsar BattleChip."

"Oh boy, going to show those Cactuses a fireworks show?" Alex asked. She could hear him sliding chips around on the table. "Welp, it's not the turret so I guess it's fine. Slot-in, BattleChip Pulsar1!"

"Your cooperation is appreciated." Astraea said sincerely as the chip data loaded in. She drew her blaster as the barrel's opening turned into a speaker. She aimed it at her Terraformer then pulled the trigger, releasing waves of sound that, strangely enough, didn't sound like anything to her. The virus contigent currently up and about wouldn't hear anything either-at least not until it hit its target. After being defelected the chip data would create a horrible screeching noise that would probably wake even the soundest sleeper in the fight.

Cinder Turret Alpha was biding its time, it's two shots held in reserve as its sensors tracked the Spooky's position. The moment CTA thought it had a clear shot it would fire with its characteristic beeping.

While the Catcys watched on with a waving, bobbing obliviousness, Astraea summoned her second construct between them, and converted the sand pit into a continuation of the grassy field. The wooden box penning it in sprouted particularly well, sending up woody shots with fresh leaves all around its surfaces. Across the field, the Spooky that was hiding giggled again, then licked the bear, ruffling its fur, before teleporting away to hide behind Astraea this time. The bear rose up, growling and agitated, looking for whoever had disturbed it, and focused on the group of beings not far off.

Of course, Astraea's Terraformer was already heading out to chase the spooky, and its teleport prevented the tiny miniature from getting all the way there, but CTA was waiting, watching like a hawk to smite the vile virus and defend its creator. No sooner had the spook warped up, close to Astrea now, than it fired both rounds in quick succession, the low power incendiaries gaining just enough extra kick from the fresh grass to burn the ghost up and remove it from the creator's presence. CTA had successfully destroyed its target and protected its creator. It really was the best turret.

Astraea, for her part, was taking aim at her terraformer; it's main job complete, it could now act as an amplifier for her pulsar burst, and when she struck it, the cacophony rippled outwards with a discordant screech. It was loud an unpleasant from where she was standing. the bear seemed angry, and roared in response; the Cacty viruses, at ground zero, were shaken apart, and the parts scattered further by the terraformer's violent detonation.

Much aggrieved and with its nap ruined, the Teddy lumbered over on all fours at a surprising pace, to rake a slash with its front paws at Astraea directly. small as it was, her shield held up to the strike though, and she was left unharmed. Aside from the fact that she now had a large and very irate bear in her face.

CactyCacty (Cacty)

When a Cacty virus attacks, it creates two damage zones: the body and the head. Touching either the body or the head will cause damage to the player, but only the head is used as an actual attack. Cacty virus bodies are 50% resistant to all forms of damage except Fire. There is no defense piercing that bypasses this effect except the Fire Element. This effect applies only to the body of the virus, as the head of the virus sustains full damage as normal.

Astraea stumbled backward as her shield collapsed from the Teddy's blow. Her eyes were wide and white showed all the way around the orange irises. She kept from falling and then froze. She had not expected the bear to travel so quickly, nor react so fiercely.

"-traea! Astraea! Hey, get behind it! Let your turret distract it!" Alex's voice finally broke through her haze and she nodded mutely. She hunched in on herself as she willed her thoughts to settle, her footsteps quiet as she staggered around the side of the bear.

Beep beep!

Two fiery bullets shot out at the bear as the Cinder Turret began beeping constantly, the small lights on its side flashing constantly in an attempt to pull the bear's attention. It was the obvious and hopefully more aggravating threat with all its flashing lights and hooting.

"Astraea, I'm sending you the big gun but it's going to need a little boost to really take a chunk out of the bear. Do you think you can do it?" Alex asked quietly, slipping in the chip without his usual theatrics. Astraea nodded and took a deep breath. A soft silver light began to spread over her form.

She could feel the chip data in her blaster, and could feel the quiet pool of strength she had discovered previously. She concentrated on funneling power from one source to the other, the light that lined her body slowly pulling away from her extremities as it began to encase her blaster instead.

The trigger was pressed and a blast of silver and yellow light was sent at the virus.

A small smile spread across Astraea's face. She was getting better at tapping in to those mysterious reserves.

The beeping distractions successfully caught the attention of the Teddy, as it rushed towards the nearby turret to slash at it. However, the little turret managed to defend itself by firing a couple of shots towards its ursine attacker and landing them square between its eyes. The Teddy roared as it recoiled in pain, before Astraea finished it off with her enhanced MarkCannon, finishing it off for good.

"Victory! That didn't go nearly as badly as I was expecting you having a bear in your face to go." Alexander said as he sorted out the chips again.

"If you had not called out when you did it...would not have gone so smoothly." Astraea admitted as she holstered her blaster and set about picking up the spoils of war. CTA was sent away with a fond pat and a quick dance across her keypad. She paused in her walk around the battle area to examine one of the soil where the grass had been burned away, going so far as to kneel down on one leg and drag her finger through the dirt.

"Ehehe, I guess I helped you out, huh? Well you're still in good shape, ready to continue?"

"Yes, I am still in good shape." Astraea said as she stood and wiped her finger off on her overalls. With one last glance around the area she turned her eye stalks to the road ahead and began moving north.

(Searching for Battle 4)
Pressing on, Astraea wandered the relatively peaceful parts of ACDC for a short while before the sounds of industry and activity caught her senses. The soft green grass under her feet grew coarser slightly, and seemed to dry out a bit, before, ahead, it tapered away into rough dirt and rocky terrain, towards a tall rocky edifice that rose up from the general ground level like a cliff shelf that had been pushed up by some kind of long-ago seismic activity.

A cluster of viruses were working on the exposed surface in some respect, the ground around the base of it cracked and broken and the sound of swinging picks was clear to hear. Astraea could see a pair of swordies, standing back and to either side, seemingly directing the group's efforts, while two miners occasionally ducked beneath the ground and came back again, closer to the rock wall. Closed to the cliff face, looking quite dusty and battered, but nevertheless happy and enthusiastic to be doing what they did best, a trio of metools swung their picks with great energy, digging away at something as directed. For now, Astraea was far enough back and the workers too focused, to really notice her presence.

-=Battle 4, Start!=-

The rocky spire was an obvious target to approach so the alien altered her path to head that way. She plodded along, the faint smile on her face from her victory in the previous fight slowly faded with the vitality of the grass beneath her feet. The sound of pickaxes reached her and she perked up, her foot steps slowing to a cautious crawl.

"Operator, I believe I am coming upon viral activity. Sound suggests several viruses of the Metool-family." She continued forward as the sound grew louder, her eyes sliding side to side in an attempt to find something she could conceal herself behind. All too soon she came within sight of them and stopped. "That's...a lot more viruses than I was expecting." She muttered.

"Huh? Oh! Oh yeah that looks like quiet a lot." Alexander promptly starting speaking in hushed tones once his viewpoint camera turned to bring the masses into view. "They look like they're digging, I wonder what they're trying to find? Just don't be seen and don't attack!"

"How exactly do you expect me to remain hidden from them?" Astraea's voice was as dry as the grass beneath her feet as she gestured to the area around her.

"Just like, crouch down or something! Like in an FPS." The alien didn't quite roll her eyes but she still carefully lowered herself into a seated position. Nevertheless she kept her eyes on the viral contingent, her hands pressed into the dirt on either side of her to push herself in one direction or the other in case an attack came her way.

Action 1-2) Sit and observe
Action 3) Dodge
As Astraea watched, carefully hiding herself as best she could, the mining work continued with viral shouts and orders being tossed back and forth. The metools seemed to mostly be getting the worst end of the deal, being bossed around by the miners and swordies, but at least the miners were actually contributing with their explosives, unlike the swordies who were mostly just overseeing everything.

With another rumbling detonation, a chunk of the cliff wall shuddered and collapsed into a brief landslide, to reveal a fairly large pocket that had been sealed. From where shew as crouched, Astraea could see what looked like ancient, dilapidated machinery inside, though it was hard to make out the details from where she was currently. The landslide, it seemed, had crushed one of the labouring metools, while the other two had backed off suddenly in a panic. Even so, he viral chitters became sounds of excitement, and before either of the swordies or the miners could give much in the way of instruction, the two remaining metools dashed in and began rapidly clearing off fallen stone and rubble. More viral shouts of protest rose as one of the two jumped into what looked like it might be a cockpit of some description and began operating things at random.

The machine shuddered and a hiss of steam blasted rocks away. Lights came on to a background rumbling sound. The metool in the hot seat grew more excited while one of the miners ducked under the ground and popped up in front of the revealed cave mouth, gesturing and shouting up at the him. A moment later engines revved hard, a large dome that looked distinctly like a giant metool helmet extended over the rusted machine, and it blasted forward out of the collapsed cave suddenly, flattening the shouting miner while the other viruses began shouting in panicked tones. The machine stopped, the helmet dome retracted, then as the somewhat startled pilot looked down at the controls it backed up just as suddenly, slamming backwards against the cliff face and causing more rocks to tumble down and scatter about. The remaining metool ducked under its helmet with a squeak, though the one in the pilot seat seemed to be getting the hang of his contraption now.

As it moved out of the cave mouth, Astraea got a slightly better look at the unearthed machine; as much as it was badly rusted up, it seemed to be some sort of heavy duty all-terrain vehicle. Rather like a tank, but instead of treads it had four monster-truck-sized wheels made of hardened metal segments. There was a gun turret housed in a vertical stack, and it seemed to move up and down on command, while the little pilot tested things out. The end of the gun barrel bore two long metal tines, making it look like a metool's pick axe more than a tank's cannon. As rusted and dilapidated as it looked, it still seemed to be fully functional now, as the metool pilot moved it about and began to get a feel for controlling the machine. As far as she could tell, Astraea was still hidden from sight; the sudden events had been more or less their own distraction, though it was hard to say how long that was going to last before they started looking around.

Rusty Mettank V1Mettank V1 (Mettank)

A Mettank is a combination of the Metool, Catack, and Armadillo viruses. It looks a lot like a regular Catack, with several notable differences. The main body of the tank is slightly smaller, and the tank's driver is very clearly an actual Metool, though it doesn't bear its signature weapon. The vehicle itself is colored to match the Metool-driver's Helmet; thus the most basic version is gold with green trim, while more powerful versions will be colored differently to follow suit. The tank itself retains the same basic design as a Catack, except that its triangular treads have been replaced with four almost comically over-sized monster-truck style armored wheels, and its main gun now sports two long, narrow tines jutting out vertically up and down from a point close to the muzzle. These make it look rather like a giant version of a Metool's pickaxe, and the cannon is also now housed in a vertical pivot that allows it to adjust up and down, or even swing with enough force to strike the lower tine to the ground.

Most of the time, the Mettank moves very slowly, and it has been seen to activate a defensive mode wherein the Metool-driver's helmet expands to a jumbo size large enough to cover the entire tank in its protective dome. This does, of course, render the virus utterly blind, and when specifically guarding like this it can no longer attack or move.

It has also been seen, occasionally, to display sudden feats of unexpected speed, where it will rev up, then suddenly ram a target. At these times, its helmet defense covers the tank, though it recedes again as soon as the attack run loses momentum.

Area: All

HP: 260
Element: Null

Primary Attack Damage/Effect: 20 Null + Stun 1 + Blast 2
Primary Attack Accuracy: B
Primary Attack Description: The Mettank blasts a target with an explosive shell from its main gun, which stuns targets.

Secondary Attack Damage/Effect: 20 Null + Piercing + Ground Attack + Wide Attack
Secondary Attack Accuracy: B
Secondary Attack Description: Slams the pick-tine of its main gun to the ground, causing a large shockwave.

Tertiary Attack Damage/Effect: 20 Null + Group Attack + Breaking + Impact + Movement
Tertiary Attack Accuracy: B
Tertiary Attack Description: The Mettank revs up and rushes one target with sudden speed. It activates its MetGuard when it begins to rush, and deactivates it again as soon as the attack run ends. The Mettank does not return to its original position at the end of the attack run, but remains where it stopped.

Special: MetGuard: The Metool's Helmet expands rapidly to cover the entire tank in a protective dome. Assumes MetalBody and can hold this guard for any number of actions. Activating the guard takes an action, but deactivating it to attack does not. Mettank cannot move or attack while MetGuard is active, however its tertiary attack ignores this. Attacks from below bypass MetGuard for normal damage.
Special: Slow to move, but can move and dodge while attacking.
Note: MetalBody is identical to IronBody, but does not hamper movement. Non-Break attacks deal 0 damage, and Break attacks deal double.

"Wow...I kinda feel bad for those Metools. They're getting bullied quite a bit." Alex whispered as he watched the excavation efforts on his tv. His viewpoint was set behind and to the left of Astraea which meant part of his view was obstructed by her unique skull shape. Would moving his camera alert the viruses? Probably not but he didn't want to accidentally trigger them regardless! It was a relatively minor inconvenience after all, and he didn't need a completely clear view to see the cliff face collapse.

"That does not bode well." Astraea remarked once her teeth were done clattering in her skull form the tremors caused by the impact of so much rock with the net floor. Her eyes caught the faint bulky shapes of machinery and she leaned forward in an attempt to get a better look. "It appears one of the Metools perished in the landslide, despite this they seem quite pleased with their discovery."

Alexander made a vague noise of agreement. He honestly felt a little bad about the Metool's fate, its viral brethren didn't even seem to care. He started snickering when the apparent scolding began, a sound that abruptly stopped when the Metool rolled out in a tank. "Oh hellfire! It looks like things just got a little tougher but we've gotta interfere! Especially if there are more of those tanks in the cavern, can you imagine if every Metool got their little feet in one?"

Astraea gave a firm nod, the numbers on the tank alone were higher than every other digital entity she had encountered up to this point besides the vampire. She remembered her first fight which had been against a pair of Metool and another virus. If those two had been in similar tanks... "We don't know for certain there are that many vehicles inside." She began, trying to stave off the sudden worry that had sprouted. Surely there weren't that many tanks hidden away. Even if there were the one that was currently facing her looked rather dilapidated, the thought of facing it when it was new or restored sent a shiver down her back.

"Mmm, we can hope so. For now focus on taking out these guys and then we'll investigate that later! The longer you can avoid notice the better off you'll be so use your machinery as a distraction!" A frown creased Astraea's face but she nodded and dropped her hand to her keypad. She hesitated with her fingers brushing the keys, her eyes sliding from enemy to enemy. What would be the best to distract them? All of her machinery could do small amounts of damage over time, now she was wishing she had one with an eye catching high damage attack right at the start.

Something to keep in mind for the next round of adjustments.

The first thing on her list was to change the terrain into something a little more favorable. With a couple decisive button clicks she called her Terraformer to the field in a beam of light that set it next to the Miner. The metallic box slowly raised one foot then slammed it into the ground, the area beneath it suddenly sprouting with the dried out grass that Astraea herself was currently hiding in. The red ball on the end of the Terraformer's antenna flashed once. The false maw dropped open, spitting out a miniature version of the machine that raced across the field to slam itself against one of the Swordy-Ns' in an attempt to grab its attention.

With a flick of her wrist Astraea unfolded her shield but stayed crouching in the grass, carefully keeping the white pentagon of protection facing the ground. If an attack seemed to be coming her way she was planning to raise the rather fragile plastic to meet it.

In the meantime she wanted to reduce the numbers on the field. A quick probe of her newly updated virus database gave her plenty of information to help determine what she should take out first. Still, if she was attempting to stay hidden then it was best to hold her chips in reserve and try to cause chaos with her machines while she could. Her fingers flew over her keypad and she called her reliable cinder turret to field. A beam of light appeared at the edge of the newly created grass patch. It deposited its bright red cargo to the left of Astraea's current position so that any viruses who were looking at it would (hopefully) not be looking directly at her. It was a bit of a long shot, bu hopefully a good one.

The little turret beeped to life and spat fire at it's designated target. The miner would burn for the maker!

With the advent of the strange tank, Astraea realised she had to do something beyond just watching, but being the sensible scientist that she was, continued a path of caution as she moved to intervene. Staying hidden, she summoned her reinforced Terraformer first, and the ripple of grass it sent across the ground with its appearance drew attention from several of the viruses present, to the sound of surprised viral exclamations.

The tank-pilot didn't seem to notice and was more interested in pressing buttons and experimenting with its new toy; the turret rose up high in its housing, then slammed downwards again, driving the elongated tine at the end of the muzzle into the ground. Just like the shock-waves of regular metools, this impact send a wave rippling outwards, only much larger. By coincidence, the wave rippled across the field and shook the Terraformer, though the construct withstood the shock-wave admirably. It's miniature scuttled across to harass one Swordy, who swiped at it a moment too late to prevent the device from impacting against it. It grumbled and looked across to the source of the annoyance, while its companion warped closer, winging its blade into the metallic plating. The second strike caused some damage, but the terraforming device remained strong. I might not have been completely sold on the idea of getting hammered like this, or of potentially exploding in glorious destruction afterwards... or maybe it did... but whatever it felt, that potential as getting closer to a reality.

As far as she could tell, Astraea was still unseen where she hid, shield carefully readied while she summoned her ever-faithful cinder turret across the field. The miner had just dropped beneath the surface for a few moments and reemerged, giving a glare to the terraformation machine; perhaps it had planted something explosive under the construct. Either way, it had popped up with its back to CTA, and the determined construct took full advantage of the opportunity, peppering it with fire bolts that ignited the grass around it in a gout of flame.

The tank-driver was looking around at this sudden assault from other machines and hurriedly pressed more buttons, seemingly at random. This time the main gun angled upwards and launched a crackling cluster bomb of some sort that sent a shower of rust drifting from the vehicle as it recoiled. The bomb however, landed off to the side of where the other viruses were converging on Astraea's terrafomer, and the snapping, crackling blast circle hit nothing.

While this was going on, the remaining metool peeked cautiously out from under its helmet, checking whether it had been disregarded yet. With a slow, cautious motion, it drew back and threw its pick towards the terraformer, beaning it squarely in the centre. It still wasn't enough to send the construct down for the count, though it looked very wobbly now, but the little met seemed pleased with its contribution all the same.

"They're really beating on your Terraformer. At this rate it's not going to last much longer. I'm sending you the trusty Pulsar! Now seems as good a time as any to use it."

The whispered comment got a nod of agreement from Astraea, the alien's vision bobbing with the movement. While earlier tests had confirmed the destructive power of her machine's self-destruct mechanism, the explosive power did her no good if the opponents were out of range!

Luckily she had a machine superbly suited for bringing things back into range.

Another beam of light struck the ground next to the Terraformer, this one coalescing into the wobbly flying saucer on legs. In the cockpit Astraea's copy leered at the foes below, pushing its outline of a face against the window and sticking out a tongue that was really just a loop of red. It bounced back quickly to its seat and went to work with the various levers and buttons. The top half of the construction swiveled around then jerked to a halt that made one of the tripod's legs briefly lift off the ground. The Terraformer took this opportunity to attack, deploying another miniature form of itself that scampered away from it's producer to smash itself against the previously attacked Swordy. The leg came down and  the hook underneath swayed wildly before it was suddenly flung at the Miner in an attempt to drag that master of indirect attacks out of its comfort zone and into the bots'.

Not to be outdone by the display of haphazard teamwork the little red turret beeped loudly and spat fire in the direction of one of the Swordies. Hopefully it's exuberance wouldn't cause it to miss it's mark!

In the meantime a glass orb filled with sand materialized almost directly in front of Astraea's face. With a small shrug she picked it up and tossed it haphazardly towards the group of foes, aiming for a clear patch of ground near the Tank. Perhaps the change in terrain would give it and the surviving Metool other things to think about.

The alien didn't have the programming or experience to aim properly while half her vision was blocked by grass so the pudgy little alien climbed to her feet and drew her ray gun. It had morphed into having a speaker for a barrel again, and when she pointed the Pulsar at her own Abductor unit and pulled the trigger. To Astraea it sounded like listening to someone moving around and talking from another room. She could hear the sound, but it wasn't the least bit destructive to her. She had a feeling that the intended target could hear it much better the poor graphical-clone of her had swiveled around to face her when she had pulled the trigger. It lifted one outlined hand to the side of it's head in a salute and Astraea felt distinctly uncomfortable.

She raised her shield between herself and the oncoming blast and braced herself, hoping she was far enough out of range to escape the worst of it.

From her hiding spot, Astraea continued to asses her assault on the mining viruses, and sent her next construct in to join the fray. As the abductor unit arrived, however, the Metool in the pilot seat of the old armament found the button that made the turret swing again and pressed it with glee. The barrel lifted up to the top of the slot in its housing, then slammed down again, digging the large tine into the ground and sending out a new broad, sweeping shock-wave. It seemed to primarily be aiming at the already damaged Terraformer, but it wasn't paying too much heed to the viruses that had previously been ordering it around; the wave rattled and finally toppled the Terraformer, but it also threw some force against the nearby Swordy as it passed, and rocked the newly summoned Abductor as well; fortunately, Astraea's latest reinforcements allowed it to endure the shock-wave.

Seemingly by ill chance, the shock-wave roared across the field and rattled Astraea's own hiding place, on the same line. Her shield absorbed the force that passed through, crumpling away. It didn't look like she'd actually been discovered yet – just a coincidental angle, perhaps. At least, none of the viruses were actually looking in her direction, so it seemed.

The Swordy turned, shouting something unintelligible and angry back at the tank, just as a few sparks from the Terraformer led to a large explosion. It was engulfed in this fresh blast of force, its shouting breaking into startled exclamation instead, though it seemed to still be alive afterwards. The abductor had survived as well, by some chance of the way the explosion passed by, and threw its hook towards the Miner, though it failed to connect as the viruses disappeared beneath the ground to rig more of the field with its explosives. It popped up again a little bit closer to the abductor however – maybe just close enough, if Astraea was lucky.

CTA had witnessed the fall of the other construct, and though the blast had been fierce, the sword wielding virus had survived. It was moving around to strike at the abductor now, and that wouldn't stand; CTA could see its weakness, and assured in its duty and its ability to protect its creator, it let loose two more shots; the unsuspecting virus had moved across onto another patch of grass, next to the newer summon, and that sealed its fate as the pair of cinder rounds crashed into the back of its helmet and ignited. So much for that one. More remained, however. There would always be more threats, just as it would always be there to destroy them.

Ignorant of the way its demise was being plotted, the second Swordy warped in close to strike at the Abductor unit now; it seemed to only really have registered the surprise attack from the machines themselves, and had yet to locate Astraea as the source of them.

In the midst of this mess, the remaining ground-bound Metool looked about, then began to slowly creep towards the entrance of the cave, its expression cautious, yet hopeful. Unfortunately for it, the already damaged ground beneath it gave way with a few extra cracks and it disappeared from sight with a startled 'Meep!' A second later, Astraea lobbed her terrain-altering orb towards the ground near where the large tank rumbled away. She had a moment to meet eyes with the Metool pilot, perhaps unintentionally; it seemed to have been admiring the path of the shock-wave and only caught sight of her flinging the orb by chance. As started as she may have been to be discovered, however the little met seemed just as shocked, and closed its eyes, hunkering low in the seat.

Normally, this action would be accompanied by the Metool ducking completely under its mining hat, however, this particular time something more peculiar happened. The hat expanded dramatically and with sudden speed, widening and stretching to slide down over the entire tank vehicle and creating a large, impenetrable-looking dome every bit a Metool's helmet, only jumbo sized. Nothing else seemed to happen, however, and the orb bounced of the dome then landed beside it, shattering to spread sand in a broad area around the point of impact. The tank... listed slightly, and the softer sand filtered under it. Close by, the broken hole filled in, raising up an unfortunately upended metool, legs kicking in the air as it tried to pick itself up from its fall. The remaining Swordy glanced at the tank, and the sand, then turned its attention back to the Abductor near it – it seemed to be writing the oddity off as some other strange tank effect. This lasted until Astraea took a more direct approach and popped up to blast her own summon with a heavy pulsar from her ray gun. Her aim was good, and though the Swordy had time to look her way, the chain reaction it caused was sufficiently powerful to destroy it, and prevent it from doing more. Similarly, the combined effect of the pulsar and the detonation of her abductor was enough to scorch the Miner from the net as well, leaving just the hiding tank, and the upturned Metool in the sand.

Possible Rewards (Per Virus): TankCannon1, Guard1, ShockWave, IronShell1, LilBomb, WhiteCapsule
