Refresher Course

Warping in from the access point, Prominence proceeded out into the whole of ACDC Net. Looking about, there were various navis scattered around, some chatting, some battling viruses. Obviously, since this wasn't the Internet City network, viruses were roaming about too, which was good as that was what they came here to do. "Alright, time to get used to battling again. How long has it been now?"

A small screen appeared next to Prominence, the face of Kite appearing on the screen with the study room displaying in the background. "About three months, with all the moving and getting settled, we haven't really been able to surf the net and bust viruses for fun"

"Let's also not forget how you somehow lost most of your battlechips while packing."

Kite's face turned pink slightly. "Yeah... That happened too. A-anyway how about we start, pick any group you like, I'm sure more will come once we make some noise."

Prominence strolled casually through the net, his arms folded looking for a group of viruses to start out on.

While Prominence had appeared in one of the more socially populated patches of the sleepy ACDC net, most of the viral presence was far off beyond the bounds of where general civilian navis interacted, and looked equally sleepy and sedate. On the whole it was a fairly pleasant day on the net side of ACDC, it seemed; the sun was out and warm, and a light breeze moved through roughly east to west, tousling the grass verges and making the taller dandelions sway.

It took Prominence a little while to move out from the safer, more controlled areas and into the slightly less protected areas beyond, but he'd only been searching for a minute or two when a scuttle of quick-moving feet raced up from behind him.

If he stopped to look, the navi would see a cluster of three yellow-helmed metool in the process of racing up to him as quick as their stubby feet could carry them, though they stopped in a neat line about a dozen paces from him. The one on the left seemed to be panting somewhat, while the other two mostly just looked a little winded. There was a quick conference between them in unintelligible viral chatter before the central metool made motions to the other two, with a hurried 'Meep, meep!'

The outside mets picked themselves up then raised their pickaxes and waved them slightly, until an arched holographic display lit up above them. There were words on it, picked out in green and gold: "Welcome to the net! Please accept your complimentary shock-waves!" As the letters scrolled, the central metool tilted its head slightly, looking at Prominence, then darted a step forward and turned around, meeping quickly again. It waved its own pickaxe at the sign, scrawling over parts of it, until it had made satisfactory edits, then stood back in line again. The sign now read "Welcome back" instead, in slightly messier, childish scrawl. The middle met seemed pleased with this alteration and looked back at Prominence with a happy expression, then raised its pickaxe as though to strike. It hesitated for just a moment as it lifted it though, watching the navi to see if he was ready.

Prominence appreciated the respect he was being given by the Metool in seeing if he was ready for battle. Busting viruses may be a violent endeavor, but that's no reason to be impolite. Taking a bow before the Metools, Prominence met the raised pickaxe pulling his right arm out to his side, waiting for his operator to load in a chip for him to use.

"Guess we'll work with what we have. I got a few chips when I stopped by the Netbattling club booth two weeks back, nothing special but better than nothing. Slot-In, Shotgun and ZapRing1."

Prominence's left hand at his side quickly became encompassed by the battlechip's code, replacing his hand with a more traditional buster that was white like his clothing. In his outstretched right hand, a yellow light welled up from the darkness in his hands and a ring of sparking energy formed floating around it.

Prominence looked to the two weapons he had been alotted, his eyes rolling slightly as he lowered his right arm. "Adequate, I suppose." he remarked before raising the shotgun before him aimed at the frontmost Metool. A quick shot followed with the chip returning his hand to its original form directly after. As he dropped his left and quickly raised his right, a flick of the wrist to fire the ZapRing in the wake of the shotgun shot.

Prominence was mostly his first strike would deal with the Metools, but he kept watch on them just in case, ready to sidestep any of their trademark shockwaves that approached him. His eyes narrowed as well, before opening wide with a glint as a faint veil of starscape appeared before him.

The Metool that had its pickaxe raised canted its head to the side as the Navi bowed, and was briefly confused on what protocol to follow before bowing slightly as well. Unfortunately for the Metool, it did so as Prominence readied his own weapons, leaving it unprepared for the spray of energy shot that thundered over its position. The squat virus was quickly peppered and summarily deleted, but the rest of the shot didn't spread out wide enough to strike its allies.

Undeterred, Prominence quickly followed up with a flashy jolt of electricity, which quickly turned the 3-on-1 fight to "mano e metool" duel. The lone Metool didn't appear to have read the sign, because instead of sending a shockwave rumbling towards the Navi, it instead drew its pickaxe back before hurtling it towards Prominence.

Its aim was surprisingly good even as Prominence tried to side-step out of the way, but the poorly-balanced throwing weapon bounced off the Navi's celestial defense and hurtled back towards its owner. It too had to side-step out of the way, and narrowly avoided the pickaxe before it embedded itself in the ground. The Metool's large eyes glanced back to Prominence before it dashed to the weapon and deftly pulled it from the ground, indicating it was still keen on continuing the fight.

"One left huh? A Can-No chips. It doesn't deserve them."

Prominence's tone had shifted, he had been expecting a quick deletion and the Metool remaining really should have been taken out from that last volley. It was clearly mocking him, and such an affront would not be taken lightly. Standing up straight and having his hands now returned to their normal state. A glint from his eyes once more opened the barrier to the stars that knocked away the pick and began to gather power within himself. The standard buster charge wasn't an option Prominence resorted to often, but to make a point, it would suffice.

"You couldn't just fall with your friends? Fine. Then perish alone."

Bringing his right arm out to the side, the cosmic navi summoned up a portal into the heavens beneath it, about the size of the Metool in question. From within the portal, a faint orange glint could be seen in the distance which quickly grew larger before a meteor engulfed in flames rocketed out heading straight for the Metool. Sure that this attack would finish off this group finally, Prominence made no additional effort to avoid attacks as he lowered his arm and the portal shrunk into nothingness.

Vaguely offended that his targets hadn't re-positioned themselves to line up for his shotgun properly, Prominence resorted to a full charge on his buster to finish the job instead. The remaining metool had just finished retrieving its weapon as the navi charge up, and tried to slam out a shock-wave at him before he could fire, though the ground-bound wave streaked by to his left, missing. Prominence, on the other hand, was much more accurate, and his meteorite shot ended the fight with a surprised 'Meep!' moments before quiet returned, the only remaining sound being the rolling clatter of a now empty metool helmet circling to a stop in front of him. As the other remains broke into zenny that he could use, the helmet collapsed into something else — something that he could most certainly convert into chip data.

Prominence closed his eyes for a moment, shaking his head as he walked up to the helmet and let out a sigh. Reaching down and with just a touch, it quickly converted itself to chip data, being sent back to Kite's PET.

"Guard chip huh? Gotta start somewhere I suppose. By the way you lost your temper again, ya can't be getting all riled up especially at these smaller viruses. You'll get sloppy."

Prominence opened his eyes again as he stood back up, looking for another group of viruses to take on. He opened and closed his fist as his breathing slowly normalized, returning once again to a less aggravated state.

As the high-maintenance navi continued through the net, he would come across a diamond shaped cube of data, rotating slowly and emanating particles in front of OH MY GOD A GIANT ROCK. Unfortunately for him, A. It didn't have any ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics or any sort of carvings, an easy three times his height as it sat on a singular patch of cracked and worn paneling and B. Was behind the data cache.

And then viruses jumped out of nowhere to catch the navi unawares. A growling blue wolf-like virus looked at the approaching navi, flames licking across it's mouth as it shot a ball of fire in Prominence's direction as a warning shot. Then a CannonDumb dropped with a resounding crash onto the field next to the rock, a ball with two flaming balls for hands and a boxer's helmet floated up behind the cannon and finally, a floating suit of armor floated up behind the rock, peeking it's head out from the side before bringing it's head back behind it. Prominence would have a battle, not to mention if he could keep the cache intact after the fight, an extra reward to the victor goes the spoils.

CannonDumb viruses attack any targets in sight every action they are able to. They can and will attack objects, but only objects they can damage. They will not waste cannon fire on IronBody, Shadow, or Invisible targets. The exception is Canodumb DS, which will fire at anything with its DarkCannon's beam blasts. All CannonDumb viruses may opt to spend one action prior to attacking marking their opponent with target lock. They gain the 10% accuracy benefit of Take Aim against this opponent for any and all follow-on attacks until they lose sight of the target, or switch targets.

SpikeySpikey (Spikey)

Spikey viruses are a little faster than the average virus, allowing them to cover more ground than normal with movements and dodges. They may attack while moving, but as normal, they cannot attack while dodging without expending a second action to do so. Spikey viruses are also able to use something called 'pack tactics' when 3 or more of them are present. Simply put, the Spikey viruses attack and dodge as a wolf pack. In addition, they are treated as having a reduced power Haste and Accuracy Enhancement effect which grants them a +5% bonus to evasion and accuracy while this effect is active. The effect is passive, and only expires when their numbers drop below 3.
