LanternMan: Path Clearer

The fabric of reality darkens and shimmers, and from the threshold of worlds steps LanternMan.

"Trevor, I have arrived into this afterlife." LanternMan reported.

"Okay, so, what do we need to do?" was Trevor's hushed reply.

LanternMan produced a lantern from within the confines of his billowing cloak and chuckled slightly. "Come, I will light the way."

As the spectre of the dead began his foray into the network, he could detect several entities nearby from his starting point. Soon enough, a trio of metools were happened upon, all standing...around a campfire? Either way, he seemed to happen upon a campfire story, one going “Met, metmet!” As one spoke to the other two shook in what could only be fear and horror. As the navi crept up behind them, one shrieked a cry of “MEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!” As it pointed it’s mettock at Lanternman, another...ewwww...the less said about the yellow puddle the better. The three were quick to get ready to fight, spreading out in a lazy semi-circle formation in front of the navi and campfire. And off on the horizon Lanternman could see a glittering green object in the distance.

"Kekeke... Our path is clear, Trevor." LanternMan cooed.

Trevor's glum reply seemed to dampen the mood of everything around him. "Oh, is it? Looks like some stupid mets, to me."

LanternMan, however, was not deterred. "Oh, Trevor, look closer. These foolish craftsmen have clung to last vestiges of their former lives, when they still walked in you world instead of mine." he explained. "Their impure essence cannot become a proper part of the afterlife. Such an abomination would contaminate the final rest of all your kind, even yours, Trevor."

"Okay, whatever!" Trevor replied exasperatedly. "Just do me a favor, try to grab that data over there. I've heard that good stuff can be in there."

LanternMan casually swung his arm, hefting up his lantern, until it's light fell on the Mystery Data. "Oh! A goddess of the hereafter has blessed our journey. Trevor, I will require additional support to forge this path of lost souls!"

Trevor thumbed through his incredibly modest collection of Battlechips, and slotted in a few promising looking ones.

LanternMan was already swaying back and forth, swinging his lantern in a rhythmic fashion, back and forth, back and forth, the flames licking outwards with each swing, until, with a sharp horizontal swipe, a large torrent of flame cascaded outwards over toward the scared viruses. "Aaaaaah." he moaned softly, as even LanternMan's very essence burned.

As the chip data that Trevor sent him coursed through his body, LanternMan hold his lantern aloft, high over his person, as it began to glow brighter and brighter. "Heatshot." he murmured as he slammed the lantern down towards the ground, sending a single moderate sized ball of flame spiraling towards his frightened opponents.

He raised the lantern again, this time, the light within pulsed and twinkled, almost like a starry sky. "Shotgun." he mumbled, and, quickly tossing the lantern into his off hand, swung it down again, sending a barrage of smaller balls of light careening at the pissing pipsqueaks from the opposite direction.

As soon as Lanternman got ready, he proceeded to -burn the very data holding himself together- in order to attack, the Metool trying to evade the soul eating fire, but was promptly disintegrated by the flames, a shriek of pain coming from it before it turned to ash. Afterwards, one of the metools attacked, slamming it's pick onto the ground and the rolling shockwave smacking against Lanternman. The barely-a-navi immediately counter attacked, blasting it with a concentrated ball of fire, burning -it- alive and scattering it's ashes and junk data across the area in a grisly scene. The sole survivor, weighing it's odds, knowing full well it couldn't win, attempted to flee the scene of battle...only to be blasted in the face for it's troubles by a shotgun blast, causing junk data to come flying all over the place. The campfire crackled quietly as it burned away it's data, junk all over the place...but there was a modest zenny cashe around from the deaths of the poor, poor metools. Now he had the option of opening the cashe of data in the area or leaving it behind...or could take it with him. But gods only knew if there was something of value or not.

"Come, Trevor, let us see what Fate has put in front of us." LanternMan said as he opened the Mystery Data.

Trevor watched the screen with a sullen look.
With the GMD trembling as LanternMan began to proceduraly open the cashe, would soon enough be elated as it opened up for a cashe of chip data, a simple candle standing upwards as the data became downloadable.

"Hmm, a fitting blessing to light our way. The mistresses of the afterlife must be please." LanternMan mused as he placed the candle into his lantern.

Trevor, meanwhile had begun to listen to a new music file. "Want to keep cleaning up, LanternMan?" he asked.

"Of course!" LanternMan replied quickly. "Just as your path through life is long and arduous, so too is mine through life after death!" and with a whip of his cloak, continued walking the path.

Dim light faded further as LanternMan moved further into the gloomier parts of the network. The light of his lantern cast shadows, and not far off a peculiar, lilting music drifted. It was ever so slightly discordant; just enough to set a normal person on edge, in a haunting kind of way. A the path twisted around a few large, rocky obstructions, the remains of an old building came into view, to LanternMan's left. It was blackened, as though burned, and the majority of the structure was gutted enough that its original function would be impossible to discern, but it looked like a residence of some kind. The ground was scorched and cracked all around the base of the ruined building, and where the front stairs might once have led up to a porch, a few broken remnants of wood bordered a black hole in the network. Some of the building's front porch was intact still, and a lone melody rocked back and forth in one corner, playing its music.

The ruin was a little off the path, but close enough that LanternMan could also see other shapes occupying it. Two ghostly shapes drifted above the exposed, burned out rafters, and they faded into sight more clearly as the navi drew closer, laughing and giggling to each other quietly. The didn't drown out the music with their watching amusement, but a sharper sound did cut over it as a dishevelled-looking Spikey padded up to the front doorway, glaring out from the structure with flames dripping from its mouth. It barked again, and a third time at LanternMan, growling in between.

SpikeySpikey (Spikey)

Spikey viruses are a little faster than the average virus, allowing them to cover more ground than normal with movements and dodges. They may attack while moving, but as normal, they cannot attack while dodging without expending a second action to do so. Spikey viruses are also able to use something called 'pack tactics' when 3 or more of them are present. Simply put, the Spikey viruses attack and dodge as a wolf pack. In addition, they are treated as having a reduced power Haste and Accuracy Enhancement effect which grants them a +5% bonus to evasion and accuracy while this effect is active. The effect is passive, and only expires when their numbers drop below 3.

"Such a shame." LanternMan said gruffly.

"What is?" Trevor sighed. While Trevor was fond of LanternMan's non-conformity to social niceties, he still would often get moody trying to understand all of his metaphors. This latest statement being a fine example of coyness that made Trevor's stomach hurt.

"This domicile was the forgotten memory of a lost, wandering soul." LanternMan explained. "It has been reduced to this pitiable state by these impure beings of life long lost."

"Okay... so?" Trevor asked, rolling his eyes, though his Navi could not currently see him.

"Imagine if this was your memory, Trevor. I cannot allow this to happen to you, your afterlife must be pure, as it should be." and with this, he began swaying his lantern back and forth, spewing a wave of soul-burning fire outwards, towards the front of the ruined structure. "I will require your support, Trevor."

"Huh? Oh, sure." was the angsty teen's reply. He slotted in a single chip.

As he did so, a small tower of wax erupted from the ground, near LanternMan's position, with a small portion of rope sticking out of it's top. LanternMan held his lantern to it breifly, lighting it aflame. "With this, our path shall be blessed by the light, burning at the end of a long journey."

As LanternMan moved when the battle got underway, the Spookies immediately warped over towards where LanternMan and attempted to lick him to death, but thankfully for him he had moved just far enough to evade the dual attacks. The Melody, hopping around mindlessly jumped up in time to evade the blast of energy, managing to get somewhere behind LanternMan as he summoned the candle that would light his way, the energy wafting off the candle as it invigorated him. The Spikey, meanwhile, would launch a blast of fire at LanternMan, missing him just barely and hitting the candle behind him, the candle unphased and the spikey quickly howling in anger at the navi.
