I don't think having a serious navi automatically precludes you from having humor in your posts. On the contrary, having a "serious" navi placed in a comical situation can be an enjoyable experience - even more so than if a happy-go-lucky navi were placed in a similar situation. If Brooding Badassman were to, for example, be jacked into a swanky Electown nightclub, hilarity would ensue. Just because your character has a one-track mind doesn't mean that you, as an RP'er must follow that... and it's always a fun little sidetrip to step outside your navi's comfort zones so you learn more about your characters, and maybe yourself in the process :P.
As for the purpose of humor in RP, I don't think there needs to be a specific purpose at all. It makes posts fun to read and helps add a bit of realism and color to the RP world - after all, the real world is filled with the colors of laughter and humor, so why not populate our own imaginary world with that sort of thing?
...of course, drama is also nice too.
Humor and you

Hell, American and Bo always had a bit of a zany antics relationship. Like that one time .... and then the other time .... Oh and the third time also. Use humor to your advantage, most mods don't read the wall of text. Unless you implement things that would make reading two pages from a book enjoyable.

Sky puts up a point that's pretty applicable to my own posts. Triggerman and Marlowe are nigh dead serious, yet I'll often make use of dark humour and stoic one lines to get across some semblance of comedy. Some of it revolves around the mutual sense of disrespect the navi and op have for each other.
It was also that contrast between a gravedigger personality and a happy-go-lucky character that allowed me to RP with Dimensionman well enough, back in the day.

That comfort zone idea always brings me back to when Runeknight fell face first into Persephone's tender bits. Stoic character + Uncomfortable situation = Funny.

I can do a bit of fun stuff with my characters when they're not in battle. Haven't taken much advantage of it yet, though.

And SaloonMan stood on a side while laughing.
I also remember the time with Soryu and Persephone that I was doing a mission Demonstar was modding for me. We had to 'clean' a server from viruses, but what he didn't tell me that it was from a porn site. It was still a funny situation with a Navi that's usually angry.

BULLSEYE.
Well. SOMEONE caught on. Lol.
Anyway, yeah this is my opinion in basic, cept that if you think it's taking away from your RP then it's not that great an idea.

Meh, i mainly have Timmy and Nikko make wisecracks at each other, mainly from the stuff that has happened, it will get more into their past as i get the sub-plot all ready for them, but other than that......they are a duo that cares for each other......under all of the wisecracks that they make at each other.
