Seek & Destroy Missions

The two programs watched the chipper Prog and his disorganized work station; they still couldn't shake the lingering suspicion that this Prog was just some loonie.  That said, it didn't really matter, as long as they got paid in the end.  Mach and Mazer examined the list of names, while Shrike continued to stare at Wrangler.  The majority of the listed viruses were pretty familiar, so much that only one seemed to stand out:  the Megalian-A.  To their combined recollection, they haven't encountered one in a very long time, if at all.  That fact, along with the sufficiently powerful chips, made it an obvious choice.

Mach pointed to the Megalian-A's name with one of his flattened, mechanical fingertips.  "I'll hunt some Megalians."
"Megalians, eh? All righty, go knock some heads together!" said the Prog, jumping up and twirling in a circle before a sheet was ejected from its mouth, containing the details of the hunt as well as its reward structure.

MachMan nearly had to lean over to pluck the spat-out piece of paper out of the air before it could lazily waft down to the floor, and it became slightly crumpled from his mechanical fingers grasping at the weak material.  Thankfully it remained legible, and Mach took a moment to read where his prey is hiding, the rather sizeable rewards for killing them.  He had never gone out busting with a single virus family on his "to-kill" list, and wondered if it might bring an unique flavor in the battles ahead, maybe even that spark to help him find the "happiness to claim for himself" as Yasu said.

Mazer read over the paper as well, thinking these viruses must be pretty tough to be such high-value bounties, either that or they pay top dollar even for Metools...  Regardless, Mazer chimed in.  ["Have a preference to where?  There aren't many choices..."] he trailed off, not indicating an inclination towards either of the two available networks.  The paper briefly turned into a wireframe before disappearing as Mach downloaded the data, then gave a slight wave and a brief "Thanks" before he turned away from the odd prog.  "I'd rather deal with viruses in snow than underwater, so Sharo," Mach explained himself to Mazer, who nodded in a "well, you have a point there" sort of expression.  ["Fair enough, I'll link you over."]

A flash of cyan later, the program and SP disappeared as they embarked on their inaugural "Seek & Destroy" mission.

((To Sharo ChaosNet))
((From Mazer's House))

A flash of light burst in the sky above the network floor, revealing Mach's angular form with Shrike clamped down on the top of his fuselage armor. Instead of a graceful and quick diving turn towards the ground below, Mach's descent was slower and seemed to flounder as the Navi tried to adapt to his new perception of the world around him. The programs descended nearly straight down, and leveled off several times when they got closer to the ground, seemingly unsure of the distance.

After making a somewhat clumsy landing, Mach and his attached SP clunked to what appeared to be Wrangler's booth. Mach could only "see" an indicator labeled as "Wrangler" behind a simple wireframe that roughly appeared to be his ramshackle booth. From Wrangler's perspective, it was completely unknown if the Navi was looking at him or not, but the ocular SP mounted above/behind his opaque cyan helmet gave the program a focused cycloptic stare. "I have a bounty to turn in." the Navi stated bluntly, producing kill counts for the Megalian-A3.

Wrangler's smiling, largely vacant expression watched the new entrant descent to the ground with far less grace than Mach usually displayed. When he produced the bounty sheet, the prog looked up at him, then the sheet, then Shrike, before looking back to Mach.

"Well that's no problem here, partner. All counted and well earned." The sheet shattered away into data fragments, and was replaced by a chip packet as well as a cloth sack that jingled faintly when it settled on the counter. "Just you be careful out there, cowboy. Them's dark and dangerous nets you're rangin'. 's a bigger loss the hunter gettin' hisself hunted, than losin' a couple o' them nasty varmints to mindin' fer your own skin, you hear?"

The Wrangler waited, bobbing slowly in place in case Mach had any other requests.

((Apologies, should've rolled this into the last post))

"Speaking of which," Mach grumbled in response to Wrangler's caution before reaching out with an unsure hand to grasp the zenny pouch. "Tell me what else still needs hunting in ChaosNet," his gravely voice echoed from his armor while his metal fingers dug into the cloth bag, almost to the point of tearing the burlap-like material and spilling out the small sum of Zenny inside. He dragged the sack from the table as it disappeared from being downloaded to the PET.

Mazer was surprised to say the least at his Navi's sudden eagerness to get back in the fight. ["Don't you think it's too soon to get back out there? We barely worked out the ki-"] "Might as well ask while I'm here, there's no timeline," MachMan interrupted rudely, but he did have a point; simply accepting a bounty didn't require the Navi to immediately get on the hunt.
"Oh! Still up for it, aye? Well, if you're still rarin' ta go, we still got some varmints worth roundin' up. Here ya go!" said Wrangler, while a small firecracker popped up on the countertop from inside it. The firecracker erupted into a plume of smoke, before clearing away to reveal a (strangely clean) list of viruses on a piece of parchment.

DeadHead3DeadHead3 (DeadHead)

A purple HardHead. Aside from the color, it doesn't look any different from a HardHead, ColdHead, or HotHead.

Special Note: DeadHeads alternate actions between attacking and guarding. These are the only actions DeadHeads may perform, and the first action of every battle is always guarding. DeadHeads will not break from this pattern unless forced to by status effects. DeadHeads cannot be lifted or thrown, even with RageClaw. DeadHeads have permanent Zombie status, hence their name.

KilboKilbo (Kilby)

Kilby viruses try to stay at least 3 panels away from their enemy at all times, and dodge back and forth constantly. Kilby viruses only attack once per turn, and when they do, they teleport to a position flanking their target, and stab them with a Bamboo Lance. This lance strikes at Long Sword range, and may hit two targets at once. After attacking, they teleport back to the panel they were standing upon when they first began their attack sequence. They are mindlessly oblivious to the hazards of terrain. Kilby Omega viruses attack differently. Instead of attacking from the side, they attack 3 separate targets from behind with Bamboo Lance. They also teleport before and after the attack, just as lesser Kilby do, and only attack once per turn. They are mindlessly oblivious to the hazards of terrain.

Bagworm3Bagworm3 (Bagworm)

Bagworm viruses drop down from way up high, execute a WoodTower attack, and rise back up. Dropping and attacking is an action, while moving back upward is a second action. They may also adjust where on the battlefield they drop next while in High Altitude as a free action. Bagworms may opt to interrupt their normal movement and attack pattern with the use of LeafShield, which requires an action. This can be done either on the field or while in High Altitude in between attacks, it really doesn't matter. After the shield is up, they resume their normal activities at the point where they left off. Bagworms are known to carry fragments of recovery chip data, which they use on themselves when their health drops below 50%.

Ninetails3Ninetails3 (Ninetails)

A small fox-like virus, that would otherwise be nondescript if it didn't posses nine metal, razor sharp tails. Despite appearing as though the tails would hinder their movement, they are actually quite good at dodging, and are treated as having Haste for Evasion purposes only at all times. Ninetails Omega has double Haste. As one would expect, they attack via a series of vicious tail whips.

SlimestSlimest (Slimey)

Slimey viruses were produced to be sources of major traffic lag. While a Slimey virus is on the battlefield, all Navis and SPs suffer from a passive Slow-like effect that imposes a -10% Evasion AND Movement Speed penalty. This effect is not a status ailment, and cannot be cured. This effect does not stack with itself if more than one Slimey is on the field at once. As this does not count as a true Slow effect, up to two instances of Slow may stack on top of this effect for a total penalty of -30% Evasion/Movement Speed. This effect expires when all Slimey viruses on the field are deleted or flee. Slimey viruses are very slow to move and dodge, but every move they make that is not a dodge counts as an attack. Slimeys deal damage by touching an opponent, thus touching a Slimey directly results in damage to any non-Slimey the virus considers hostile.

DoomerDoomer (Boomer)

Boomers cannot be damaged from any direction in the forward hemisphere so long as they carry their boomerang. Any attacks from the rear hemisphere or Break attacks hit normally. Boomers launch their boomerang when they attack, leaving themselves open to counter attacks. Boomers move by floating through the air, and are immune to the effects of Anchor. They are, however, still subject to the effects of terrain. They cannot be forced to submerge into liquid terrain, nor can they be buried in solid terrain. Boomers are horrible at dodging, as they generally rely on their Rang-Guard ability.

MachMan stood silently, not at all seeing the little private fireworks display on the Prog's counter. Instead, he just detected the presence of a new, flat object. Assuming it was the bounty sheet, Mach picked it up in his mechanical fingers and maneuvered the parchment so the assumed printed side was facing him.
"..."
Nothing. Just a "blank" wireframe-esque object. Mach showed restraint by not crinkling up or tearing the parchment in his fingers, and instead lifted it slightly higher and towards his right shoulder. Shrike's large mechanical eye honed in on the paper. "DeadHead3: PoisonBall3. Kilbo: SideBamboo3..." Shrike read out aloud, taking a minute or two to cover the entire list, ending with "End of document"

Mach placed the parchment back down on Wrangler's booth countertop initially in silence as he made his decision. "We'll hunt the Doomer," he eventually grumbled.
"Doomers, eh? Let's all sing the 'Doomer Song'! Doom, de doomer, doom!" exclaimed Wrangler as the sheet began burning and sparking as if it was made of combustible materials. When it disappeared in a cloud of smoke, a new sheet printed out of a hole in the table.

"Now deliver some doom to those Doomer-varmints. Yeehaa!" Wrangler whooped.
Thanks to multiple layers of material obscuring Mach's lone, unfunctioning eye, Wrangler didn't see the Navi's mildly contemptuous stare in response to the impromptu song. After the prog finished his song and farewell message, Mach turned away. He walked with a steady gait for several feet as the high-pitched whine of his engines became ever louder from spooling up.
A gust of hot wind lightly buffeted the prog and his shack as Mach was propelled into the air before disappearing.
