Every day I'm...

There was a kind of splat. Not the wet kind of splat, like you get when you throw curdled, half-cheese milk at the refridgerator door, no, this was more of a dry splat. If you had to find an example for it, it would be like three dozen cards hitting the floor at the same time. Which is rather fitting, because that's what the noise was.

Laying in this messy (of course) pile of playing cards was Shuffle; he seemed to be gazing at the bright, strobing wallpaper-sky of Netvegas Net, then paused for a moment, thinking, before stretching his limbs out and beginning to make a card angel. shiff, shuff. Shiff, shuff. Shiffshiff shuff. Shuffle paused in his idle flailing, blinked, and then twitched as though he was going to move again, this time rewarded with a small 'shiff' from off to his left, followed by an 'ah!'.

"Hello, Ralta." Shuffle grinned, holding up his hand.

"Hiiii, Shuffle." Ralta chuckled innocently, pulling him up off the ground. "So what are we doing today? Anything specific?"

"NOPE!" Shuffle beamed, grinning like a dope. He held the face just long enough to get a small, tittering chuckle out of Ralta, then dropped it. "Just bored. C'mon, let's find some viruses." Shuffle beckoned, waving her on.

"Right behind you..." Ralta said ominously, her footsteps inaudible once more.

[Battle 1: METOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLS]
With Shuffle's entrance into the network, after making a card angel in his little pile, he made way into the network, with its blaring lights and gaudy neon. Tall buildings sprouted up everywhere, displaying bright adverts with all the flair that fitted the network belonging to the City of Sin. His entrance was at a smaller, less populated road, but still busy nonetheless. In a few seconds, some viruses rolled out from a nearby alley, and turned to face him.

Their yellow helmets were raised slightly to look at Shuffle's face, recognizing his Navigator signature. A few barrels were turned towards him, and they readied themselves for a fi-- wait, barrels? Not pickaxes? Oh, hrm. Guess they just liked the helmets.

((Ho ho, going a bit harder on me? That's fine...))

"Well, this isn't what I was expecting." Shuffle scoffed to himself, grinning and flipping a card idly. "Hey BOB!"

"What is it, sir?"

"Ah come on now, how many times have I told you not to call me 'Sir'? S'kinda irritating." Shuffle sighed, idly fussing with his ponytail.

There was a pause before BOB spoke again. "Terribly sorry, Shuffle. Now, what is it you need?"

Shuffle stopped, blinking for a moment. "BOB, are you dealing right now?" he accused, crossing his arms and frowning.

"Perhaps a little." Shuffle could hear the subtle 'thwip' of another card hitting the table in the background. The look that appeared on his face afterward was priceless; he looked like a kind of cross between an angry gerbil and an irritated poodle.

"I'm guessing you want me to send some chips?" BOB asked, chuckling.

"Yeah. The casino gave you three, right?"

"That is correct. Should I send them all?"

"No!" Ralta interjected, strangely insistent. Shuffle turned to look at her. "Well, these are Kabutanks, right? Those launch bombs! Those take a while to travel through the air, so we should just stay back for now." She explained, brandishing a trio of daggers. "Besides, I can hit them from here! See, watch!"

With that introduction, Ralta turned to stare down the Kabutanks, a wry grin on her rounded little face. In a flash, she rushed forward a half-step, then another blink had rushed to the right, then after a third blink, she had rushed to the left. Shuffle blinked again, and she was in the air-- and a trio of her sharp little daggers were headed straight for the lead Kabutank.

"See?" Ralta began, landing in front of Shuffle. "We can hit them from he-" Ralta disappeared in a small puff of smoke.

"Did she forget about the way she disappears after attacking again, sir?" BOB asked, another irritating little 'thwip' accompanying his question. Shuffle's sigh was all the answer he needed.

"Let's follow her advice anyway, Shuffle... I believe it to be tactically sound." BOB shrugged, a pair of clicks accompanying his voice this time.

Precisely on cue, Shuffle's sleeves dispensed a pair of cards. He flipped them over to look at their faces; the Jack of Cannons and the Jack of Shotguns, eh?

Shuffle nodded, then began to move, starting a wide circle around the Kabutanks. He wasn't looking to flank them, per se; he was looking for an opportunity to line them up. To try and get the most damage he could out of what he had. That wouldn't be too hard, he just had to hope they didn't fire while he was lining it up...

Finally, when Shuffle was satisfied he had gotten the angle just right, he threw the cards. One landed at his feet-- the Jack of Cannons. It exploded outward before his eyes, a Canodumb rising from the tiny piece of parchment on the ground, and then fired, launching one of the Canodumb's nigh-trademark projectiles at the Kabutanks before him.

At the same time, the second card that he had thrown-- the Jack of Shotguns, shattered as a hail of buckshot struck it in midair, passing straight through the card and fanning out into a wide spread as it zipped toward the Kabutanks.

Satisfied for now, Shuffle hopped back a bit, watching the sky for any bombs they might try to send his way in reply...

X: 2 of Spades [5x3 Slashing @ Kabutank A]
1: Cannon @ Kabutank C: Attempt to push at Kabutank B [40 + Knockback, A Acc.]
2: Shotgun @ Kabutank C, Spread to Kabutank B [50 + Spread1, A Acc.]
3: Dodge!
A few cards in the Kabutanks' faces was all they needed to be subdued, with two of them being rather easily dispatched by two Jacks brought out by Shuffle. Ralta's earlier attack had two of her daggers hitting, with the last whooshing overhead. The Kabutank's bomb did similarly in terms of performance, with the explosive just barely skirting over Shuffle's head before exploding behind him.

"Welcome back, Ralta." Shuffle said as she appeared next to him, pouting.

"Well, it worked didn't it?" She asked in response, nodding her head toward the only remaining Kabutank. "I hit him!"

"Yeah, yeah. I-" Shuffle paused for a moment, blinking as if stunned and staring at Ralta, "-have the strangest urge to grab Ralta's chest right now." He scratched his chin at that, bewildered, while Ralta balked at him.

"Wh-what?!" She cried, taking an instinctive step back. BOB's chuckling could be heard echoing over the comms as Shuffle took another step toward her, a small grin appearing on his face, and then paused in his tracks.

"Mm, nope, urge's gone." He shrugged. Ralta sputtered random syllables behind him as he turned to face the Kabutank again, and spoke. "Let's finish up."

"As you wish, Shuffle." BOB returned, another click echoing from the line and Shuffle's sleeve at the same moment. The small card that popped out had the image of a bear on it; Shuffle nodded in response, then flicked the card down. In reply, a set of three elongated, curved blades erupted from the card itself, still attached, impossibly, to its' tiny paper edge. At the same time, Shuffle lunged forward, low and fast, ducking down into a low roll that would take him under any overhead bombs, then lunged forward with the Ragecard, swinging it flatwise through the air. Once, twice, he struck out in quick succession, trying to pin down the Kabutank with a flurry of attacks.

"Oooh, I'm gonna get you!" Shuffle heard Ralta yell behind him, breaking him out of the hail of blows he had locked himself into as he turned, curious, to see what she was doing. When he saw her high in the air, daggers already flying at his face, he did what any sane man would do:

He ducked.

1: Dodge (Roll toward Kabutank A underneath any bombs it tosses)
2: Rageclaw @ Kabutank A [40 + Slashing; B Acc.]
3: Rageclaw @ Kabutank A [40 + Slashing; B Acc.]
X: 2 of Spades @ Kabutank A [5 Slashing x 3 hits]
Every day I'm bumpin'
After having provoked Ralta's wrath, Shuffle proceeded to rake through the remaining Kabutank with ease with his card-blades. The event that transpired afterwards had him barely avoiding some rather sharp daggers. Close call! Some spectators walked by the spectacle with perhaps a raised eye indicator (or eyebrow, should they have one) and not anything more.

Ralta nearly dematerialized as the battle routines shut off, flickering from signature apparition to... apparition in general. "Ahhh. That was a good battle! Shall we move on?" She smiled, tilting her head at Shuffle before leading the way.

Shuffle looked at her curiously, then hesitatingly followed her.

((Battle... TWO!))
With Ralta leading the way into the area, she and Shuffle walked through the lights of NetVegas Net once more. Their travels led them to a large disc platform in the middle of the road, advertising a nearby casino outfit in the real world. The platform had a multitude of elemental-type paneling, resembling a kind of roulette. It wasn't spinning, though, thankfully, as it was turned off. This allowed some viruses to mess about the place, with a trio of Momogra following a Beetank around. Naturally, Shuffle's presence attracted their ire, and they readied themselves for battle!

Shuffle grinned at the layout before them; Ralta grimaced. "This is great!" Shuffle hopped forward onto the roulette, amused. "Alright, I'm thinkin' I want to try out the new chip on those Momogras. They're nice and clumped up, hey?" Shuffle suggested, more to BOB than Ralta.

"Certainly, Shuffle; I shall send the chip. Any others?" BOB replied over the comm, a small bit of amusement in his voice. Shuffle could sense another casino story coming on, so he nodded. "Nah, wanna see how that turns out, then we'll go from there." Almost immediately afterward, the telltale click of a chip slotting in rang out, and a card fwipped out of Shuffle's sleeve, slipping straight past his hand and drifting toward the ground-- whereupon it turned into a small bomb.

Shuffle's eyes went wide as it blinked once, then twice, and in an instant he had grabbed the bomb off the ground and hurled it at the Momogras with as much force as he could possibly put into his arms, screaming just a little on the inside of his mind. Feeling BOB's gaze on him, Shuffle chuckled. "Aheheh, aheh, heh... I meant to do that."

In the meanwhile, Ralta had taken up a target of her own and flipped, sideways, out of the relative cover of the Control Dome in the center of the roulette wheel. With a forceful flick of both wrists, she hurled her daggers at the Beetank off in the distance, and yelled at Shuffle. "Get behind something!" A second later she was gone, disappeared by the passive kicking off.

Shuffle decided to take her up on the advice, and rolled behind the control dome to try and use it as cover.

1: Crackerbomb @ Momogra trio [80 Blast 2 + Panelcrack; D Acc.]
X: 2 of Spades (3 hits of 5 slashing @ Beetank)
2: Roooooooll behind Control dome
3: Dodge
Three-day bump.
Stepping onto the platform warily, Shuffle immediately requested support in the form of a small-yet-potent explosive. He wasted no time in grabbing the ex-playing card off the ground and whipping it across the platform. It managed to catch two of the Momogras off guard, mainly because it fell into one of their holes just as they began to burrow away. The left virus was relatively long gone by the time the other two went up in smoke. It popped up to Shuffle's left, one Furnace panel over from the Beetank.

Speaking of Beetanks, Ralta was presently tossing daggers at one. The projectiles pierced the virus's hull as Ralta disappeared, the Beetank retaliating angrily with a bomb. Shuffle managed to barely avoid the explosion as he rolled behind the control dome, now fully aware of the Momogra staring him down to his left.

"Oh. Hi." Shuffle said warily, staring at the Momogra. As it stared at him with those beady eyes. As he stared at it. As it stared at him. As he stared at it. As it stared at him. As he stared at it.

Staaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaare.

"Those... those beady eyes..." Shuffle murmured, squinting as he stared at them. They were like... like twin black pools, endlessly dark in their intensity- And then Ralta kicked him in the head, and he snapped out of it. "Come on, Shuffle! We've got things to fight!" She said, hands on her somewhat unsubstantial hips. She shook her head at him, then hopped up over first Shuffle's head, then the control dome, then hucked her daggers at the Beetank again.

Then went poof. Again. From somewhere beyond the battlefield, Shuffle could swear he heard a sigh... Regardless, BOB pressed on even as his navi faltered, quickly slotting in two more chips. "Here, Shuffle," BOB said, flicking out a few cards to the casino staff he was dealing for in the breakroom, "use these."

Shuffle made sure to actually catch the cards as they came out this time, then looked over his old friends the Cannon and Shotgun with a smirk. "Alright alright alright then!" Shuffle yelled, flipping a card into each hand. "Eat this!"

With that Shuffle hurled the first card at the Momogra; this time, unlike the last, the card transformed into a cannonball in midair, then kept sailing for the Momogra. In the meanwhile, Shuffle rolled quickly to the left, the card for the Shotgun chip turning into an actual Shotgun in his hands. As he rolled to a stop, the Beetank and Momogra lined up in front of him, he shouted out again and fired the shotgun.

"PULL!"

The muzzle of the black object he held in his hands exploded into burst of fire and fury, small individual pellets sent flying forward as Shuffle stood up and... beat it back towards cover, trying to dip out of the way of any retaliation.

X: 2 Of Spades @ Beetank (3 x 5 slashing)
1: Cannon @ Momogra A (40 + Knockback; A Acc.)
2: Shotgun@ Momogra A + Beetank A (50 + Spread1; A Acc.)
3: Run Away! (Dodge)
Two day bump.
Thankfully, Shuffle was able to snap out of his catatonic state before the viruses could take advantage over it, quickly throwing out his attack along with Ralta's. The Cannonball card smacked right into the Momogra, but the daggers were only...2/3rd as effective as it should be (Because, y'know, only 2 or the 3 managed to hit)

The next shotgun chip should have been enough to finish the battle, but it only managed to delete the Momogra and lethally wound the lone Beetank. For its final attempt, the virus launched a bomb at the navi, which was a hit despite shuffle's attempt to evade the attack!

As the smoke cleared from the small explosion surrounding Shuffle, he coughed, releasing a small puff of smoke out of his mouth. "How the hell did that thing's aim get so good all of a sudden?" He asked, bewildered. Shuffle gazed on the Beetank, looking entirely worse for wear across the battlefield, and mumbled curiously to himself.

Finally, Ralta appeared behind him. "I'm ba-" And then got hit on the head. "-Uehh?!" She cried out after Shuffle's hand had bopped her on the top of her noggin. "What was that for!?"

Shuffle sighed, grabbed her head, and turned it toward the Beetank. "You missed!" He grumbled, an irritated look on his face.

"What, but- but-" Ralta stammered, putting together what had happened through Shuffle's lower HP count and the Beetank's 5 HP. "Ooooh--!! I'll fix this, you just stay here!" She yelled, angrily, before hopping up over the control dome and hucking more daggers at the Beetank across the way. One, two, three, four, five, six... wait, how many daggers was she going to hurl at it? She couldn't throw out that many attacks each turn--

So when she disappeared a moment later, along with all but three of her daggers, Shuffle sighed and nodded to himself. Yep, that was Ralta...

X: 2 of Spades @ Beetank (3 x 5 + Slashing)
1-3: Dodge any incoming attacks
1-3 Part 2: Don't somehow get hit by a slow-moving, predictable bomb attack despite specifically trying to dodge it
As Ralta took matters into her own hands and launched a pointy assault on the final virus, the Beetank saw its own inevitable demise coming and launched a final bomb an instant before the sharp implements made their way into its hull. To his credit, Shuffle avoided the bomb cleanly, but seemed to underestimate the projectile's blast radius. The explosion barely caught him from behind and threw him forward, landing flat on the ground before he could dive out of the way.

"Hey, BOB, you done with that poker game yet?" Shuffle asked irritatedly.

"What poker game, Shuffle?" BOB retorted, his small chuckles clearly audible over the line. "I am guessing you have somewhere you want me to go?"

Shuffle nodded at that. "Yeah. Jack me out and we'll talk about it."

"Very well." With naught but those simple words, Shuffle disappeared from the Net in a beam of light.

...A few moments later, Ralta reappeared. "Okay, I'm back-" She paused. "Wait. Where did you go?! SHUFFLEEEEEEEE!"

[Jacked Out]
whoof whoof whoof whoof whoof A multitude-- nay, a horde of playing cards came swarming in towards this particular location in NetVegas, all of them eventually clumping together in the shape of a man striking a pose. A few moments later the card-figure burst, scattering playing cards everywhere, and Shuffle was left in its' place.

He took a couple of confident steps forward. "Alright, let's-" THWACK! "Owwww!" Shuffle groaned, whirling upon his attacker.

In front of him, or rather slightly below him stood his attacker, Ralta, her cheeks puffed up and an angry expression on her face.

"Oh, hi Ralta!" Shuffle grinned, earning him another smack on the head. "Gggh-! Cut that crap out!"

"You left me behind!" Ralta yelled, punching him in the chest. Blow after blow, Ralta continued to rain not-really-painful punches on him, irritatedly rambling about how she had to have BOB pull her out because she couldn't move, and she's not a navi so she couldn't do anything, and she nearly fragmented because blah blah blah blah blah. Shuffle had stopped listening after the first 5 seconds, and now stood idly picking at his ear. So Ralta punched him again.

"I thought I was going to diiiiiiiie!" She yelled.

"Yeah, yeah. You're not a fully-functioning program anyway. Listen-- who is that?" Shuffle asked, pointing across the way at a blonde-haired woman in military fatigues. At his prodding, Ralta also looked over, then scratched her head curiously. "Don't recognize her. Why?"

"Because she's been staring at me since we jacked in." Shuffle replied with a shrug. As if on cue, the woman trotted over, a flirtatious looking grin on her face. She tugged down the zipper on her fatigues a bit, exposing some of her cleavage, and then leaned forward... exposing even more. "Hiiiii, Master!" She giggled air-headedly, staring into Shuffle's eyes.

Shuffle stared back at her.
She stared back at him.
So he stared back at her more.
So she licked her lips and kept staring.
So he stared at her some more.

Finally, after this had gone on for about five minutes, neither of them moving and Ralta confusedly looking back and forth between the two, the woman's grin abruptly soured, and she turned away with a scoff. "Bo~ring." She sighed, zipping her fatigues up.

Shuffle blinked a couple of times, then looked up, towards BOB. "Did you program this one, BOB?" he asked, pointing.

BOB's reply was fairly swift. "I did, yes. Why do you ask?"

"She's a little kooky. You didn't mess up the programming again, did you? And why are all my cards so far female, anyway?" Shuffle said, tone growing slightly accusatory near the end.

"Coincidence, I assure you. More importantly, I couldn't come up with a name for her, so I have left that to you. Good luck!" Shuffle felt him forcibly close the line on the far side.

"Hey, you! Blonde!" Shuffle yelled out, a little irritated. The woman turned and pointed at herself, making a "me?" face and sticking her tongue out. "Yeah, you! What's your signature file named?"

"...Patchprog. Why?" She asked, taking another step closer.

"Sweet, your name's Patchie from now on." Shuffle said in reply, giving her a thumbs up. At that he abruptly turned around. "Arright then Patchie, let's see what you can do!" Shuffle waved the two cards behind him onward, dashing off in search of some viruses.

"Patchie" balked behind him, standing still in shock. Ralta merely giggled, running after him in pursuit. "Hurry up or you'll get left behind, 'Patchie'~!" she taunted.
Bump.
