ViralMan emerged from the NetSquare portal a few seconds before his new ally. In those few seconds he was treated to a blinding flash of light, some annoyingly bright neon signs and plenty of gambling-themed imagery. As a first impression it certainly looked cool, but it was at this point that ViralMan was wishing he'd had his usual helmet on. He hadn't caught what had flashed by, but he hoped whatever it was crashed into a wall or something.
"Zeo, you'd better check your PET soon," ViralMan threatened to his absent operator. "I swear, if anything happens to myself or that girl-er, Seli-" he pointlessly corrected himself to be more polite. "...I'm never going to let you forget it."
All of this happened over around five seconds. In that time ViralMan had got about four feet away from the portal. While he waited for Seli to come through, he occupied himself with examining the spectacular yet eye pain inducing wonders of the NetVegas network.
Neon Funds

A wooden door appeared in the air slightly above head level, and it opened to reveal a beam of light that, when removed, revealed the lovely Seli standing in NetVegasNet.
The girl appeared a few seconds after her friend; too late to hear anything he had said. She took a moment too look around as she walked towards him. It was, indeed, like NetVegas. The Casino imagery, neon lights, the same crazy, exciting, hectic air.
Nikki was slightly interested. It was a good sign for the end of her boredom, when even the background of the net she was watching was interesting. She had been to NetVegas before, and this was nearly as good.
When she reached him, the out of place looking girl turned her innocent face to her partner. " It's so exciting . . . This place is crazy!" she asked, taking time to absorb the surrounding. After exhaling, she continued. "So, ViralMan, are you ready?"
Nikki hoped he'd say yes, for the sake of entertainment.

Was ViralMan ready to face a possible horde of likely powerful and unknown viruses in an unknown area he had never even heard of? Not much much to say other than yes. He briefly considered putting on his helmet again, but with Seli around it seemed a bit too serious. Besides, he didn't need the visor to protect his retinas. They were probably burnt beyond repair already thanks to that stupid flying thing.
Feeling significantly more nervous than before, ViralMan looked around at his gaudy surroundings and gave his partner a thumbs up.
"Ready," he replied with anticipation.

"All right then!" Seli said, happily, "Now we just need to find some viruses." Of course, she didn't have much experience with this, but she understood the basics.
She looked around, and then at ViralMan again. And then around once more. "I guess we'll just wait here for some enemies to show up then?" she suggested with a shrug.
She held her hands together in front of her and looked around, swinging slightly as she waited.
Nikki was not amused by this uninteresting development, and wished retribution against them in the form of enemies appearing with malicious intent to harm the Navis she was looking over.

ViralMan and Seli walked through the bright neon district of NetVegas, seeing various signs up in the air as it tried to catch the traveling navi's attention. As they walked deeper, the signs were getting brighter and brighter to the point of forcing the navis to cover their eyes.
*BOOM*
There was a small explosion that occured not so far from the two. They immediately realized that it was done by a troup of beetanks that was quickly approaching them! They managed to destroy one of the neon signs, making thing bareable...But it created a looming darkness beneath the destroyed sign and allowed two sneaky viruses to lurk about!

And so it began. ViralMan's initial reaction to the explosion was not quite what one would expect. Thank you, whoever did that, he thought as he moved his arm from across his eyes. He wondered why anyone would make a sign so bright that it couldn't be looked at directly. Seconds after the sign exploded, ViralMan sighted the source of the blast. "Beetles?" he asked rhetorically. On closer inspection, the viruses were all some kind of tank. Then under the busted sign...did he see something moving? No time to worry about that now, ViralMan thought, clenching his fists.
As things stood, his only form of direct offense was his vulcan. His buster was nowhere near good enough to combat the enemies. He wasn't facing them alone, at least. But what could Seli do in a combat situation? ViralMan's guess: not much. She certainly seemed capable (at least in a non-battle sense), so he saw no need to do anything like tell her to dodge if a bomb came flying at her. Thinking about that...it seems those tanks fire bombs. Depending on the blast radius, this could be easy or hard.
First order of business was to move. ViralMan turned to look at Seli, making sure there was no worry on his face. "I won't tell you what to do. I'm sure you know what you're capable of better than me. Just be careful," he told her. He took a few steps to the side of Seli. If the viruses were more interested in neutralizing the threat, that was great, they would come after him. If they decided to go after the lesser threat...well, he didn't intend to let them get that far. Thought accomplishing that would be much easier if his op was helping him. For the umpteenth time since he'd met Seli, ViralMan cursed his operator for ditching him.
"Might as well take out one of those tanks before they fire..." ViralMan reasoned. He held up his arm and manually accessed his attack programs, causing the PET to beep. The Navi ignored it, however. Soon strands of data surrounded his outstretched arm and revealed a powerful multi-barreled machine gun. ViralMan saw no reason to be fancy about it. From his position facing the approaching viruses, he picked one out at random and pointed the vulcan at it. The gun began to spin at high speed before firing three short bursts at one of the BeeTanks. He immediately followed up the attack by sprinting at the group of tank viruses. ViralMan held up his right arm as he neared the viruses and slowed down a bit while a large shield manifested on the arm. When it finished, he sped up again, charging directly at and hopefully through the viruses.
If all went well, the head on charge would have drawn away the tanks' fire and (at the expense of ViralMan's health or his shield) caused their bombs to explode and catch the viruses in their own attacks. Regardless of the outcome, ViralMan came to a stop outside the group of BeeTanks and looked at the broken sign. Ugh, now that I've risked life and limb to do that stupid move... ViralMan focused on what seemed to be shadows moving in the darkness of the sign's shadow. "Can't hide forever," he said, his arm morphing into the buster he rarely used. He quickly took a potshot at one of the shadowy viruses under the sign before taking off back towards Seli. His passive recovery program kicked in as he did, healing whatever damage he had taken from the charge, if any.
1. Viral Vulcan to BeeTankA (3 hits of 30)
2. StimShield shield bash through BeeTank group, attempt to draw fire/hit viruses with their own bomb explosions (1 hit shield, +30HP)
3. Buster shot to ShadowA (8)
4. Dodge/run back to Seli
-Passive: Data Absorption (+15HP)

Seli, relieved at the more tolerable level of light, was not able to take this relief happily. There were a number of causes for this. For one, it was hard to feel relief when your relief was caused by a startling and unexpected explosion. In fact, it put her on edge and brought her close to shrieking in surprise. But she hadn't. She still wasn't relieved and relaxed, though.
Another reason she couldn't relax was that the cause of the explosion was a troop of hostile enemies, most likely intent on doing damage to them. Seli quickly panned her gaze over the battlefield. She counted three little tanks shaped like round Hercules beetles, and two shadowy figures. Against two total fighters on her side, only one of whom did she imagine would be any good in a fight. Five against two was rarely a fair fight. Five against one was almost never even footing.
Nikki also didn't find relief in the start of this battle; she found excitement. Finding freedom, finally, from her boredom, she took a more active interest in what would happen next. She spoke once again to Seli on her private line, rattling off the name and health of each of the enemies on the field. "Sounds like fun, doesn't it?" she posed, rhetorically.
Seli was still in a good mood. She nodded quickly as she swallowed her nervousness. It would be fun. She had back up this time. Nikki's list had supported her own observations and given her names for the faces she had seen (or not been able to make out, in the case of the Shadows). Seli and Nikki could be parts of this, too. It would be three against five. The fight could be won.
As Seli poured through plans on her next action, her ally turned to her with some words of encouragement. She nodded, and returned a, "Thank you," before also returning a, "You too," and finishing with wishes of, "Best of luck."
Seli thought about the position on the battlefield. The BeeTanks had ranged firing power, strong enough, at least, to break a neon sign. She'd have to watch out for future assaults from them. The Shadows she had no knowledge on, but she did know that as long as they stayed out of sight and out of reach they'd be a dangerous unknown in the match.
She had no idea what ViralMan was capable of, but he had already launched a very interesting set of rounds at a BeeTank, and was beginning to rush towards them. As she echoed her best of luck wish, along with a new "stay safe", she turned to different opponents, trusting ViralMan to deal with the ones he had.
She took a few quick steps forward, keeping her head up to watch for attacks. She ran low towards the ground, hoping to avoid any stray gunshots coming from the BeeTanks. "I may not be meant for battle," she thought, as she reached for a piece of rubble on the ground, "but I wasn't made to be a burden either." She slid to a stop, standing upright once more, facing the shadows.
She tossed the piece of rubble up a short distance, and caught it. She harkened back to the Milk bottle games she had seen in a stand, or to the pitching she had seen in the past, and pulled her arm back. She would draw those shadows out, making the unknown known, and making their battle a much less dangerous affair. She took a leading step with her opposite leg, pulled her body forward, and used that momentum to arc her arm out sideways, delivering a shot with the rubble that she could be proud of. The aim was shaky as she didn't quite know where the viruses ended in the darkness, but the toss had been one of her best, for sure.
"Not too bad for a girl," she mused, thinking that it certainly would have been enough to knock over those milk bottles and win her a prize.
However, in her running she had moved significantly closer to the broken sign and the shadows. If they fought from medium range, they certainly wouldn't even have had to leaver the shadow to strike back. Seli glanced into the shadows, hoping she had earned some anger from them, enough to draw them out. She then glanced in the rest of her vulnerable directions, turned around, and began running back towards a position more similar to the one she had begun in.
She glanced over her shoulder to see how ViralMan was doing, and then resumed taking in all her surroundings. As valiant as she had just been, she did not want to be shot by the BeeTanks she had left to ViralMan. She also didn't want the Shadows to do whatever it was that they could to her; she just wanted them out of the shadows. So she watched all sides, prepared to make an emergency evasive maneuver to avoid a strike, most likely in the form of ducking down and covering her head.
Nikki watched the whole scene entranced. It was like an action movie, but with terrible actors. She had a bit of control over it, and felt connected to the actors, at least. And anything was better than the state of complete boredom she had taken part in. She smiled as the violence and chaos of the battlefield chased away any lingering regret she had for trusting Seli to fulfill her desire for gratification in the form entertainment.
Battle Summary:
1. Run, head ducked, closer to the Shadows [Dodgy Movement]
2. Pick up and throw some rubble (likely from the busted neon sign) at ShadowB to draw it out [Non-Standard Attack, 1 Null DMG?]
3. Return to starting place and beware attacks [Dodgy Movement]

First off the bat, ViralMan eliminated a Beetank easily with his Viral Vulcan. The tanks weren't happy with this development and started to blast the Navi with their bombs. He was ready with his shield, however, and deflected one of the attacks. The Shadows were simply watching the fight with disinterest, when they were attacked by gun and rubble. The gun missed entirely, but the rubble managed to hit one of the Shadows on the head(?) and angered it. It jumped out at Seli and gave her what-for, but she thankfully dodged the attacks.

"Well, that barely affected anything," ViralMan scoffed pessimistically. The two Navis were no more worse for wear though, which he was thankful for. How he had emerged from a head on charge essentially unharmed was beyond him, but ViralMan decided to count his blessings and keep going. First thing he needed to take care of was those shadowy viruses. One of them had already attacked Seli, but she'd avoided it. It had been hit by the rubble Seli threw, but that hadn't fazed it. Rubble wasn't the best thing to hit an enemy with though. "Of course, now I'm out of powerful attacks until the recharge. What do we do now?" He directed the last bit at Seli with significantly less worry showing than in his earlier comments. "I think I'm just about out of-"
"Hello? ViralMan?" came a voice from near ViralMan.
And Zeo was back. It certainly sounded like him. ViralMan immediately capitalized on the opportunity and grabbed his operator's attention by forcefully moving the teen's view to the Navi's face. "Chips. Now. This is all because of you disappearing, so humor me and we can talk when I'm not busy," the annoyed Navi snapped. Zeo shrugged from where he stood in the park. All he'd done was turn on the PET, and now this? The PET had beeped, so he'd moved to investigate. Evidently it was ViralMan trying to fight viruses on his own. That is, except for the schoolgirl Navi who was with him. Zeo opted to simply shrug, reach into his pocket and calmly slide a chip into his PET. "What did I do...?" he wondered.
ViralMan's arm promptly transformed into a buster again. He hoped it was a Shotgun this time as he suspected. "Okay, now we're in business!" he shouted. Turning to the BeeTanks that had survived his first attack, he ran towards them to stop them from getting any closer. He closed the distance quickly before kneeling down and placing his free hand on the weapon to steady it. Seconds after that he fired, sending a powerful shot of yellow energy flying at the two tanks. Assuming it hit, they were done for. One more problem taken care of. The Shadows were still a complete unknown, however. "Zeo! What do you make of those things?" ViralMan asked his operator. Zeo studied the viruses and reported his simple findings. "When in doubt, bring out the big guns? I don't see anything wrong with doing that," he said. Holding up another chip, he put it in the PET.
"There you go, ElecReel. Go crazy. And uh, what happened while I was gone?" Zeo asked. ViralMan wasn't too interested in explaining it, but while the device of electric death was morphing onto his arm, he gave Zeo a condensed version. "Without you here, we didn't have the money to do anything. We came out here to find money. Now, busy," he brushed off the boyquickly. Hefting the orange ElecReel, ViralMan jogged forward while supporting it and pointed the end with the crackling electricity at the Shadows. It let loose with a bolt of fierce lightning that would thoroughly shock the viruses, in theory. The electricity that remained after the attack crackled harmlessly around the target area. ViralMan held up a hand, and a Sword appeared on it a moment later. He raised an eyebrow, which Zeo could now see since the Navi had foregone his helmet.
Zeo chuckled. "Nice expression. Anyway, the Sword is one of our best chips. I'm sure it'll work fine." ViralMan began to run forward when he stopped talking. "...but still, be careful," Zeo added as the Navi started running. Simple and to the point this time, ViralMan lifted up his Sword threateningly and pointed it at one of the Shadows as he had with the ElecReel. Unfortunately, this time he'd have to get closer if he wanted something to happen. He jumped at the virus and made a stab directly at it, trying his best to land the attack. If these viruses for some reason had something against Seli, it was better that they disappeared now. For that very reason, ViralMan decided to retreat back to his starting position at that point. His automatic healing program kicked in unnecessarily then, adding to his overcautious methods.

Seli had been right; throwing rubble at the Shadows made them angry. The one she had hit came after her and attacked. It turned into a sword and sliced through the air, but she had expected that, so she managed to avoid the assault by dropping to the ground below the slice of the blade.
Well, that wasn't quite being fair. The rubble she threw hadn't hit the Shadow exactly. It had gone through it. And she hadn't expected the odd thing to turn into a sword and try and slice through her; that was sort of a surprise. She had expected it to come after her somehow, though.
She didn't exactly want to die though, so she quickly got herself out of a prone ducking position and leapt backwards to space herself from her assailant. On the bright side, she hadn't gotten hurt; as she learned from Nikki a moment later, though, neither had the Shadow.
"Oh, and some tool is offering up some sort of chip raffle. I'm always up for a free chip." Nikki said with a devilish smile and a shrug. This was aimed mainly at herself, though her private channel to Seli was still on.
The Navi hadn't really bothered thinking much about it, though. She looked over what was happening on the battlefield. She opened her mouth to respond to ViralMan's query, but he seemed to have become distracted by his operator, so she sort of mumbled that one off. "I guess we should just keep up the good work then?" she ventured quietly, with a smile, assuming that her words would be lost as her ally spoke to his operator.
It appeared that ViralMan had the things that could actually be touched taken care of, and she didn't really know where to go from there with the shadows.
She decided her best course of action would be to be a good team mate. She tried to pay as much attention as she could to her surroundings. She watched for the enemies to attack and for her ally to stay safe. She could always dive out of the way of attacks coming her way; she was pretty good at taking care of herself. It was her ally she was looking out for.
But what could she possibly do to aid him in his defense? Well, she had that all planned out. Assuming an enemy planned on attacking him she could just warn him before it happened, if he didn't see it on time. Something along the lines of, "Watch out, ViralMan!" would be enough to give him time to avoid assault.
However, this wouldn't help if he wasn't paying attention. And because of this, Seli had even more drastic plans ready. She could use her talent at avoiding damage to aid her partner. If he truly wasn't paying attention, even a head up wouldn't help. As a result, Seli was prepared to grab him by the arm or shoulder and pull him down and back to avoid injury to him.
Of course, aiding him would do her no good if he in turn felt the need to waste energy defending her; it was along these lines that Seli decided to watch for her own safety too. Fully prepared to jump back from any more sword-like attacks, she watched the field intently.
Nikki wasn't all that concerned at the moment; the other Navi seemed to have his chips back, and should have been able to wrap this up right quick. She focused on picking the perfect chip to send in as scrap for her new one.
"I hope I get something good," she thought, as she wrote up a quick e-mail.
"I hope he stays safe," Seli took the time to think, glancing over at her ally. But he would. She was sure of it.

1. Jump Back [Dodge]
2. Warn ViralMan if he's attacked, or help him avoid a blow [Help ViralMan Dodge]

Bang went ViralMan's gun as he pointed it towards a Beetank. The shot blasted both of the rolling tank viruses out of the sky quickly. The Shadows quickly made themselves a lot scarcer by destroying a couple of the neon signs, covering even more of the place in darkness. ViralMan's ElecReel attack did hit the Shadows, but passed through them harmlessly. His sword only flailed around in the dark as the shadows stayed where they were.

After seemingly missing the shadowy viruses once again, ViralMan was getting a little fed up. They hadn't attacked him or Seli though, so it could be considered a success for now. He had to decide on how he was going to attack again, but he wasn't sure how he was going to make contact when everything seemed to miss. Maybe this had been a bad idea after all...
No time to regret coming now though. Even if going busting had been a mistake, ViralMan still had to deal with the consequences. He looked at his Sword while he thought of a course of action. There was nothing significant about the Shadow viruses, no obvious weakness. He didn't think it had any aversion to light if it had been willing to chase after Seli, though he couldn't be sure. I can't be sure of anything, he thought, irritated. ViralMan finally arrived at the conclusion that he hadn't made contact with the Sword yet, so trying something else first would be a waste. It also seemed that Zeo had disappeared again. No bright ideas coming from him.
ViralMan's eyes widened in an instant, and he looked up at the floating neon signs. He couldn't believe he'd gotten an idea from a stupid mocking comment. Of course, without Zeo around that idea would have to be put on hold unless the boy managed to fix his damn timing. The PET was on this time however, so ViralMan merely made the device beep loudly and soon had his op's attention once again. "Hey, what do you need? Harke just woke up; we're kind of busy," Zeo said. ViralMan didn't know what he was talking about, so he held up a hand and shrugged. "An electrical chip to try something crazy would be appreciated." His operator nodded and produced a MagBomb from his pocket, inserting it into the PET.
The perfect sphere appeared in ViralMan's free hand, but he wasn't ready to use it yet. If his "plan" destroyed yet another sign it would become even harder to make contact with anything and it would become harder to cover Seli. Speaking of Seli, she was still doing alright from what ViralMan could see. "You okay?" he asked Seli, trying to show some concern for the Navi. "I don't suppose you know anything about making neon signs brighter?" he joked, laughing. He thought that the laugh had sounded a little forced, but it hadn't been totally obvious. Or so he hoped. "I'm gonna go after those things again and see how they like sharp edges," ViralMan said, motioning towards his Sword. "If we keep this up, it'll be over in no time."
Finished with his reassurances, ViralMan sprinted into the darkness. He was fully aware that doing so would invite an attack by the Shadow viruses, but it was necessary at this point. He had no idea where exactly they were, and had only headed in the general direction of one virus. He carefully looked around for movement, waiting to spot something before quickly thrusting his blade straight at it. He followed through with the attack completely, then continued in the same direction until he reached the end of the darkness. Once he did, he glanced at the last two signs. His next attempt would either cover the area in near complete shadow or brighten it somewhat. The latter was preferable.
"Seli! Careful of that sign!" ViralMan shouted at his partner, pointing at the second sign.
Gripping the MagBomb tightly, ViralMan drew his arm back. "Here goes nothing," he said. I wish, he thought immediately after. The sign wasn't that high up, so he didn't think he'd miss. To be safe, he took a few steps to gain momentum before throwing the bomb at the second NeonSign to try to brighten the area. That was all he was willing to do for now, so he got more distance from the darkness before locating Seli to keep an eye on her. He wondered if the viruses really were unable to come out of the shadow. It seemed like an odd concept to the Navi.

Seli didn't know what to do. She seemed at a loss. "My best bet," she figured, "would be to try and not get in the way." She was somewhat disheartened by the fact that she hadn't been able to help at all.
Nikki was also beginning to begrudge Seli's lack of action moves. She wouldn't enjoy more battles if all Seli kept doing was sitting around.
Seli decided to make use of her time. She walked further into the light and examined the battlefield. Watching over everything, she tried to spot the two Shadows they were still fighting, and to keep an eye on them.
It was around now that ViralMan started talking to her. "Yeah," she spoke back, "I'm holding up alright. Thanks." He was wasting energy worrying about her, making her even more of a hassle. However the fact that he was thinking about her was sweet.
She thought about his other statements. "Sorry, can't say I do." was the answer to the first, and to the second she cheered. "You show 'em! I have faith in you, ViralMan!"
She continued watching both her ally and her opponents as ViralMan headed into the fray. It wasn't long before he shouted back at her to watch out. Not wanting to worry him, she did as he said.
"Alright!" She exclaimed surprised and quick, leaping backwards away from the light. Sadly this movement was a bit too sudden and odd for her body to anticipate. She wound up tripping backwards after landing on her heels, and wound up in sitting position, falling closer to ViralMan.
She rubbed off her eyes and looked up. "I'm alright." she muttered under her breath, hoping to save her some embarrassment.

Determined to finish the battle quickly, ViralMan scouted the dark areas for movement, and managed to stab a Shadow that was sneaking up on him. The sound of it screeching in pain could be heard in conjunction with the other's recoil. In an instant afterwards, the Navi threw his MagBomb up into the bright neon sign, and made it explode. Not just any explosion, though. A very noisy, very bright explosion that covered the entire area in light for a small moment. The Shadow was stunned for a bit by the light, and his chance was open!
Seli just kind of... fumbled around and tripped.

Seli recovered gracefully and stood, watching ViralMan as he went about fighting the Shadow. There were only two other beings left on the field, and since it appeared that the Shadow had to close in to attack, so she wasn't too worried about it getting at her.
So what was left to do for her? Well, not much. She was startlingly aware of her uselessness at the moment, but didn't let it show.
"Yeah ViralMan!" she cheered. "You can do it!"
Nikki watched, unhappy. She had grown more and more dissatisfied with the abilities of her navi, and was going to have to do something about that very soon. She was already scheming, plotting, and figuring out exactly how to handle this issue. It wouldn't be that rough. She could have Seli more capable in no time.
Seli watched as her partner battled. She was sure he could finish the last opponent. "I knew you could do it." She said aloud to him. Obviously she wasn't sure if he had yet, but she figured the encouragement couldn't hurt.
"You're pretty good at this whole battling thing. It's a good thing, too. I couldn't have handled this alone, I'm sure." She said, rubbing her hand on the back of her neck with a somewhat awkward smile.
This lack of action wasn't what Nikki had been looking for when she said she wanted to do something today. It would have been disappointing, if it hadn't inspired her to do something different.

Well, that had worked better than expected. In a few short seconds, ViralMan had managed to both take out one of the shadowy viruses and bathe the while area in light. On that note...
"Agh, my eyes..." ViralMan lamented not looking away from the sign as it had lit up further. He really wished he hadn't taken off his helmet. He seemed to be faring a bit better than the shadowy virus that remained. It seemed to be somewhat stunned by the light, which provided a perfect opportunity.
You know what? I'm just going to call these things Shadows, ViralMan decided. Examining his Sword, he smiled. It had worked to defeat the first Shadow, so why not use it again? Just as he held the Sword up in preparation for an attack, Seli called out words of encouragement. Not really accustomed to that kind of thing, ViralMan's face reddened a bit, but he quickly directed his gaze towards the final virus to keep Seli from noticing. To acknowledge the Navi's words, ViralMan gave a brief thumbs up before moving in for the final attack.
Sprinting at the hopefully stunned Shadow, ViralMan allowed his Sword arm to trail behind him. As he closed in on the virus, his Sword arm tensed. A few feet from the virus, ViralMan swung around his blade in a wide horizontal cut, using the leverage from winding up to make it look...cooler. Or so he hoped. For good measure, after the first swing he spun his weapon back for another strike at the virus. Positive that his attacks must have worked, ViralMan hopped back a bit before completely turning around and going to where Seli was. In response to her last comment, he tried to respond without agreeing with the girl.
This amounted to an almost cliched statement of modesty. "Well, it wasn't that good..." He trailed off before smiling lightly and turning to look at the battlefield. "So, that's probably it, huh?"
