A Cold Shoulder

Moving through the ridge at the bottom of the mountainside carefully, Lyntael made her way through the snowscape, her cold-resistant clothing now deprived of its primary quality. Even so, she had done rather well in spite of her weakness, especially in the harsh conditions of Sharo's network. Unfortunately, her surroundings had more in store for her, as the blustery winds that had been reasonably manageable up until now turned into a dangerous gale, the snowfall reducing visibility to near nil and preventing her from making any reasonable amount of progress forward.

Unfortunately, as she would begin to seek shelter, the rapidly lowered temperatures caused her beaten body to make an errant step, and she tripped and stumbled down a rather steep slope. Miraculously, she didn't suffer any major injuries from the stumbles, as they put her at the mouth of a cave, carved out into the side of the mountain range she had been traveling along earlier. The blizzard was already intensifying even further outside, and she had no choice but to seek shelter inside of it if she wanted to do something about Rogan's unreasonable request to seek more enemies.

The cave's entrance was rather short, as it opened up into a vast cavernous space, covered almost completely in ice. In the center of the frozen cavern, a raised stone platform housed a Bluegon, guarded by a trio of red shelled viruses. Behind the Bluegon, a green crystal twinkled teasingly as it spun in place. As the shelled viruses saw Lyntael approach, their vulnerable insides were protected by their hard outer shells that clamped down immediately, alerting the Bluegon to her presence. The dragon roared mightily as the cavern shook, and two icy pillars lit up with an odd fire that did not seem to melt the pillars they were on.

What was more, a duo of Ashuraid viruses were approaching from further towards her sides--6 foot tall helmeted metal statues that rolled around on a 1-ton steel ball, wielding a huge pair of tripled free-floating metal arms. If she turned to try and leave, a stray Sparky sphere would greet her with a set of strange beeps. Strangely enough, however, it didn't seem all that keen on fighting her as it floated about leisurely, almost as if it was a small creature that had innocently wandered into a new playground.

AshuraidAshuraid (Ashuraid)

The Ashuraid are a new strain of 6 foot tall semi-humanoid viruses with bodies made of durable metal alloys. Ashuraid viruses lack legs, and instead roll around on a 1 ton solid steel ball 1-foot in diameter that rests in a cupola. Rising from the top of the cupola is an alloy pillar that supports their smooth and curving metal bodies. The key defining feature of Ashuraid viruses are their half dozen free-floating arm segments constructed of an indestructible alloy. Three of these arms feature metallic rights hands, and the other three feature metallic left hands, thus they are differentiated. In combat, the virus will ball these hands up into fists, and launch volleys of rocket punches at their foes. The virus' helmeted head rests upon a short metallic rod-like neck with their faces hidden behind a metallic faceplate. The exception being their mouths, which are generally curved downwards in a permanent frown while in the presence of Navigators. It is speculated that Ashuraid are a hacked derivative of the Bladia viruses spliced together with fragments of other viruses and a healthy dose of battlechip program data. This would account for their size, strength, and malicious nature. Where and how this was possibly accomplished is unknown. Ashuraid viruses move and dodge at better than average speeds, although they rarely choose to dodge at all. Ashuraid viruses are ranged attackers, and prefer to hold the range open against their enemies as melee range attacks with their Impacting abilities generally render Counters useless. Ashuraids attack by launching their six free-floating indestructible alloy arms at one or more enemies in volleys of 3 rocket punches. It takes 3 arms to execute a MeteorKnucke attack, 3 to execute a Counter attack, and all 6 to execute their GiantHook attack. It takes roughly an action of cooldowm time after executing a long distance attack for the arms used in the attack to return to the Ashuraid's side. During this time, they may not execute a Counter Attack if they do not have enough arms available. Ergo if all 6 arms are either being used in an attack, or in cool-down following an attack or counter attack, the Ashuraid cannot use a Counter. The rest of their attacks do not require their arms to return to their side. The return feature is automatic, and does not require actions to perform. Ashuraid can move while attacking or defending, and are allowed to counter while dodging if enough arms are available. Setting a counter requires an action while executing one does not. Ashuraid are extremely heavy viruses that will sink like the lead weights they are in liquid, and they know it. They will avoid liquid terrain entirely, if possible, and will never appear near these types of naturally occurring terrain for this reason. Only an Ashuraid's body is damageable. Striking an Ashuraid's floating arms will not damage the virus or the arms themselves, no matter what you hit them with. The Ashuraids will not intentionally defend themselves with their arms outside of their Counter ability, which is nullified by Impact. Do not abuse this.

-- Battle 4 Ready? Start!! --
Anyone looking from far off might see it as something of a pathetic sight; a tiny figure trudging along a snowy ridge, while the blowing blizzard grew and washed out the speck in a blanket of white. Hugging herself as she moved her feet, Lyntael winced against the wind that carried icy sleet and fresh snow with it, then focused and split the air currents to part around her and create something of a still pocket as she moved. Breath fogged regardless, and the sudden bend in the wind caused the snow and ice to grow thickest across the front of her vision, where it clustered. It was just as she realised the effect was stopping her from really seeing where she was going, that her next step found a much lower purchase, plunging through the snow without hitting rock, far enough for the girl to lose balance with a small shriek and go tumbling down the slope again.

Even the sound of her cry was muffled into dull, muted quiet by the wind and the giving thud of her body in the deep snow; the world spiralled and only stopped its mad spinning when she wound up at the bottom of the slope again, half on her side and hurriedly trying to push up from the damp before it soaked in any further. The bone chilling damp was already settled in, somewhat, and even as she stood and sought to brush herself down, her hands shook. A small part of her was beginning to wonder exactly how freezing exposure was meant to make her less afraid, but she also knew that the truth was probably just that it was another thing that Rogan himself had never thought of; programs didn't get cold, she was sure he'd tell her. There was a bitter twist to the thought, and as she looked around, her eyes found the looming cave mouth she'd fetch up near, and the tempting respite from the ever-increasing snow storm it presented. Her resolve faltered, and the girl moved quickly towards it, shielding her face from the gale and pushing inside as swiftly as she could.

Short, sharp breaths accompanied the shivering as Lyntael rubbed at herself and felt the wind die off, and the ever-present snow stay outside. The floor was still frozen, but the simple cessation of the blizzard itself was enough for now. She paused to catch her breath, before the not-so-welcoming cave let her know that she wasn't safe or alone by any stretch of imagination. The sudden torchlight snapped her face upwards to see, and the roar that followed it made her flinch and cower back a step. Her heart jolted and sparks cracked in her hair while tiny teeth grit against each other in a mixture of despair and desperation. More sounds out of the dark made her look around, head and eyes darting while her inner charge began to hum with anticipation in response to the fresh threads of fear and danger. In backing off a step, she managed to look left and right, seeing the other two mechanical constructs and her eyes went wide at the machines' size. Her breathing hadn't slowed, but now her heart was matching it. Was five minutes too much to ask? A quiet cave, just for a few minutes to wait out a storm?

"Rogan..." Her voice shook, though it was hard to tell if it was the shock and nerves, or simply the fact that most of her form was shivering and chilled by now. Unconsciously, her right foot had slipped back into a combat stance, and her weight had moved from the flat of her feet, to just the toes of her boots. Her hands had lifted as well, defensive and still shaking while she turned around once, seeing that even her exit back out to the storm was obscured. "There are machines here... Is... Is this somewhere I shouldn't be...?"

"Probably..." his voice came back, quiet and calm. The bitter line of thoughts in her head imagined that he was still warm and comfortable in his cheap hotel room; that he'd just had a hot shower a little while ago, and probably food too, even if it was something cheap and bad for him. "There are many strange secrets to be found, hidden away in Sharo, after all..." He sounded... strangely intrigued, and it made her grit her teeth harder, fighting off the urge to shout, or cry. As the trailing lines of electricity gathered more around her wrists and ankles, she swallowed, then closed her eyes briefly, stilling her breath. The stable pulse of energy followed, swelling out from her core and balancing itself as it passed her strikers, before fading away once it reached its full extension.

A moment later, a sound force her eyes open with a start, and her breath caught as one of the hostile viruses moved again. Before she'd really thought about it, Lyntael had crouched slightly, then sprang, a small circling spiral of wind drawing in around her as she leapt upwards to the ceiling that her eyes had flicked across moments before. The array of long stalactites up there had caught her eye, as maybe being somewhere that the heavy-looking, many-armed mechs might not be able to reach her, and before she really knew it, the girl was gripping onto one of the icy spines directly above her, an arm curled around the top and one set of toes braced against its mid section while one hand and foot remained free. Her eyes raced over the battle field, moving ahead of her properly conscious thoughts. Charge as building inside her in anticipation, even as she felt the trails of it coursing across the outer layers of her skin. She shook her head, clearing it and trying to focus. Control; don't do too much; pace herself. Stay safe, first and foremost, that was what she had to do. Try to stay calm, and keep in control.

From up above, she noticed the crystal, just a little beyond the dragon virus that seemed to have situated itself in the middle of the strange set-up, and a small thought butted its way forward. Between the breath weapons of the dragon creature, whatever the heavy metal machines might do, and her own lack of control, the crystal was was too close to where any kind of conflict was likely to happen. A moment of hesitation as she decided, before a tight wince crossed her cold-reddened expression and kicked off the spike she was clinging to. A small pulse of static burst out from her body as she leapt free, skittering amongst the icicles, but Lyntael was leaping in a quick series of grabs and springs, crossing the length of the ceiling as quickly as she could, before dropping down to land directly in front of the dragon virus. One mittened hand pressed to the ground as she dropped into a low crouch, a leg extended to help absorb the rest of her drop and steady her balance while her landing leg bent all the way then uncoiled again immediately into a forward spring. The leap took her across the gap that the Bluegon rose from, and her body twisted about, the extended leg sweeping across in a falling crescent as she passed it. In the moment as her form moved, and the kick helped to shift her into the right landing position, Lyntael felt the familiar energy flow, the build in each of her strikers flooding into her core, combining, then venting outwards through her left ankle in a flare of bright light that briefly drowned out the torches lighting the cave.

She landed behind the raised alter, in front of the green crystal with her back to it, taking a secondary step back before she managed to stop her momentum. Her back brushed the crystal where it floated and she reached a hand back quickly to press one mitten to a panel and access it, attempting to draw the data inside into tight data string that she could keep safe on her person until the conflict was over, while her eyes moved around to try and keep everything that threatened her in sight. The expenditure of charge had only stolen her breath briefly, and though she could feel the internal, dull ache of hollowness it left behind, and the beginnings of it cycling back, the sensation was mostly providing her with the warmth she sorely missed, for now.

Finding herself in a tight spot, Lyntael opted for the higher vantage point, launching herself up into the air. The Ashuraid that she had been dreading seemed to have seen this coming, and stopped in their tracks as their heads turned up at her. The two metallic viruses reared up half of their fist clusters before launching a volley of rocket-propelled fists towards her. A total of six metal fist-bullets came flying towards her, though only three were repelled by her barrier; the rest crashed harmlessly into the ceiling. The Sparky seemed to have a different opinion on the situation and approached her directly, though Lyntael was already kicking off back towards the ground. They missed each other by a hair, and she could hear it beeping intermittently as it appeared to find one of the stalactites highly attractive, proceeding to orbit it slowly afterwards.

The Bluegon didn't seem to be too distracted, however, as it responded to her divebombing attack with a powerful breath attack. Her electrical ward deflected the beast's icy roar as she made a sweeping kick to delete the Bluegon in one attack. Turning her back towards the data crystal, she surreptitiously accessed it, allowing it to decrypt before she surveyed the remaining viruses in front of her. The Shellgeeks were beginning to emerge from their shells, while the Ashuraids, still rooted in the spots where she had left them, readied their remaining fists in preparation to pursue their attack. Behind her, she could hear the chip's decryption complete, though from the lack of hostility, it was at least not a Mimic in disguise, but she would have to check its contents later.

Moving as quickly as she could, and darting from high vantage to low, Lyntael still found herself not quite quick enough to avoid another scathing frost breath from the dragon virus. It was only barely that she managed to stick her landing properly, after the icy blast washed over her, and it took her an extra few moments to get herself moving again after she accessed the crystal. The two mechanical constructs had assaulted her as she moved; the awareness of their attacks caught up to her a moment later, and the dull, numb feeling to the heavy fists that had struck her, pulsed. The cold shielded her from any actual pain, just as much as her barrier had prevented them doing long-term harm, but the places where she'd been hit still throbbed in response. For the size, she realised, they didn't seem to be as powerful as she'd feared, but there wasn't really that much time to think about it. Ahead of her now, the clamshell housings of the shell viruses were opening up and she darted forward, across the raised altar to skid back to ground and duck down, making herself as difficult a close-range target for the trio as she could.

In amongst the opening shells, energy laced through her skin and filtered out along the filaments of her winter clothes, coating her in an erratic dance of small static lines, but even as a residual wave spread out from her, Lyntael grit her teeth and fought to hold the rest in for now. Getting carried away, and losing control, was what got her hurt. No big expends unless she had to, that was what she needed to do her. Light, why was the damp seeping through her cloths so utterly frigid? she couldn't even feel her toes, now, or her fingertips properly.

She also couldn't stay here, and presenting a low profile target against the viruses that wanted to shoot her was all well and good, but they weren't going to stop trying and she wasn't going to get to rest by staying still. With the chilled numbness dogging most of her body, Lyntael was more keenly aware than ever of the rapid thud of her heart, pulsing along with the fluctuations of her charge. The fear was still there; of being hurt, and of the pain that trying to fight brought, but the girl realised to her chagrin that, true to Rogan's insistence, she was gradually growing more able to function in spite of it; pain of this nature was becoming horribly 'normal' to her, and it still didn't measure up to other fears and traumas she'd had to suffer before.

She pushed herself up, trying to keep steady on the ice, and trying as hard as she could to keep her body back from expending more of its rebuilding energy in uncontrolled waves. The stand became a quick roll past the central shell virus, one elbow striking out towards its exposed innards as she passed, but her focus was on the nearer of the two mechanical viruses and she resisted the urgings of her body to let the power surge outwards. Hold off, keep it together, and do what she had to, when it mattered. The girl repeated the mantra in her mind as she moved towards it, weaving as much as she could on the ice. After launching some of its arms, the appendages seemed to be taking a few extra moments to recover; she could see that. If she could just knock the other set aside, it might let her get a clear shot at putting it out of commission. It was a machine after all, or at least it was as far as she could tell. One good shock might be enough to shut if down if she was lucky. She chased up close to the rolling monstrosity, and in a quick shuffle and feint, kicked off her left leg to leap and swing her right about, aiming to strike whatever were still situated of its detachable arms and throw them away to the side. A small burst of wind followed the kick, lending it pushing power as she batted at the limbs, gritting her teeth against the need to expend and holding it in. When she landed, Lyntael focused on the core of the construct, reading herself to actually blast it, hopefully without any more of its all-too-numerous fists getting in the way.

Keeping herself mobile, Lyntael found herself taking the Shellgeeks head-on, surrounded by a wave of unstable electrical charge. Her enemies were quick to launch their attacks, with the Shellgeeks launching a barrage of needles from all sides. While she was able to avoid an impressive three out of five in total, the two worked in tandem to first destroy her barrier and stab into one of her arms. (-10) Unfortunately for the mollusk-type viruses, this started a chain reaction where the unstable charge surrounding her unleashed its fury in a wide area about her. However, somehow, due to her unstable footing on the ice, the involuntary discharge barely passed by one of the Shellgeeks, which remained completely unharmed.

Her body was now getting more used to the freezing temperatures, though whether that was her body adapting or simply an unconscious act of final desperation remained to be seen. Striking out with one of her elbows, she managed to destroy the one closest to her, deleting it easily. Then, her attention shifted to the metallic giants, as she approached gallantly with one of her rising kicks towards the Ashuraid's raised array of fists. The loud clang of her foot against the virus's metal exterior proved her attack had connected, but all she had done was knock away one of the fists it had raised up, allowing the remaining two to perform a rapid countering jab. Fortunately, only one connected (-5) with surprisingly little force, and the other sailed over her head. Meanwhile, the other Ashuraid had retrieved the fists it had previously used, and was standing in place, presumably in anticipation of Lyntael's attack that had gone to its identical comrade instead.

Back near the altar, her instinctual discharge had severely damaged the lit pillars, to the point of almost breaking apart. The Shellgeek saw the fate that its comrades had undergone, and opted to reside in its shell for the moment. Finally, a cracked stalactite finally gave way, and fell down to the ground, disappearing into the blackness that had been occupied by the Bluegon shortly prior. The Sparky satellite that had been orbiting it fell down to the floor with it. Freed of its distraction, it began to hover about the center area aimlessly.

No matter how she moved, it seemed like she just couldn't keep away from everything at once, and as the barrage of spears crossed over her position, and Lyntael did her best to twist away, the scoring pain from the sharp edges that made it through was accompanied by the upsetting sound of slicing fabric. Amidst the freezing chill, she felt the sense of one spear slicing metallic filaments, thick fabric, and biting across the skin under her upper arm, long before the line of pain caught up with it. Her breath caught behind grit teeth, but the volley of connecting impacts was more than enough to shake her grip loose and allow her body to react in the way it demanded. She'd already been trying to move forward, and the bursting wave of recoil drove her down to her hands an knees as it escaped. The moment of energy flow was a brief flash of euphoric release from tension, before the raging current force a low groan from between her teeth. Even as it faded away, and the charge began to rebuild, filling her, Lyntael kept moving, driving forward despite shaking limbs and unsteady boots on the slick ice.

She could feel fresh pockets of cold and air movement about her body, but there wasn't time to think about it in between her efforts to stop the two large machines before they could do anything more. They had too many arms for her to deal with, and even knocking them away only seemed to delay them for a moment. Worse, it didn't seem like she was having any effect on them. The kick had connected, she knew that, but there was no sign she'd even made a dent. there had been another sound of ripping and tearing fabric as she'd kicked at it, and another again when it had struck back, punching her back down to the ground.

As she hit the ground, her cheek pressed against the freezing ice, and she could feel it against one thigh, where her leggings had ripped. For a moment, the combinations of sensations hit her, forcing everything else to stillness, and she struggled to shake her head; not there, not then. But the will cracked and crumbled as her mind was already tumbling back, feelings of ineffectiveness summoning His words to her ears, and His face to her memory, leering. Mumbling, the girl tried to push away from it, but as she rolled over, another icy shock against her back just confirmed where she was, laid out on that cold, hard table, her clothes in tatters, her body hurt and bleeding, blood mingling with frigid water all around her. There wasn't anything she could do to fight Him off, it was a certainty that weighed like lead and kept her body from moving. Her eyes were closed, resisting the truth as she tried to struggle, writhing and lashing out with her hands even as she tried in vain to cover herself from the eyes she could feel staring at her. The back of her hand hit something hard, probably the edge of the lab table, and electricity flowed through her, wasting itself.

"Away... stay away! Don't touch me, please, don't touch me!!" The last became a shrill scream that made her body pulse with static again and she scrabbled at the ground, trying quickly to right herself in some fashion. When her eyes opened, she saw mostly a blur of white and blue, but the fuzzy shape blotching her vision, clouded through sudden panicked tears, was more than enough for her mind to turn into the figure she dreaded. He was right above her, looming down, ready to do all the vile things he whispered while she couldn't stop Him.

"Get away... Don't, just, get away!" Amidst the desperation, she thrust both of her hands up against his chest, and felt a surge of channelled energy pass through her as her fingers pressed flat against Him. The charge made her back arch and her eyes sting again, but she shoved as hard as she could. Even then, she was useless against Him; the figure didn't budge, even as a gale of wind crashed upwards around her, trying to throw Him back from her, her tormentor wasn't budged by it. She managed to roll back over, sniffling and shuddering as she scrambled away, hands and feet slipping unevenly. There were shapes in the ice around her, and tall pillars, but all Lyntael herself was seeing were the metallic lab tables in that room that was etched all too clearly on her memory.

She managed to pull herself up against one of the benches, panting in fast, shallow breaths as she dragged her knees to her chest and wrapped her arms about. The equipment was freezing against her back, and she rocked slightly with the rhythms of her breath. There was a voice in her ear, but it sounded distant and muffled, small against the pounding pressure of her heart beating and the pulse of blood rushing in her ears. Small crackles of sparks danced on her skin and fell from her eyes alongside the aching sensation of hot tears. She couldn't fight that monster. She couldn't. She just had to hide, until He went away. Just stay hidden, and silent. She clenched her teeth against the sobs that tried to creep up, and closed her eyes tightly again.

With the Ashuraid's enormous body closing in on her, and her circumstances suddenly turning for the worse, Lyntael's mind began to see things that weren't in front of her, and her fear turned into a blind panic. Scrambling about, she lashed out with her electrified strike, but the combination of the icy ground beneath her and her panicked state caused the attack to miss entirely, while the Ashuraid itself had already put up its guard against her attack with three of its arms. Her errant discharge afterwards was repelled by it, however, and it struck back with two of its fists into Lyntael's gut and face. (5x2) Despite this, she continued to struggle, and continued by letting out a powerful discharge with both of her hands.

This time, it was more effective, as it flowed into the ground and amplified itself, dealing a significant amount of damage to her metallic enemy. Its metal exterior cracked with the attack as it was pushed away, while Lyntael tried to scramble away into safety. Her body felt slightly sluggish from her electrical release from a little while ago, but she still managed to make her way to the pillar, which she mistook as a bench from her memories. Along the way, a trio of rocket punches sailed overhead, though she managed to avoid all of them. However, as she hid behind the pillar, she came into contact with the Sparky, which collided into her quite painfully (-40x2Ice) before destroying the pillar that she was about to hide behind. As it shattered, it left behind its base structure--a panel of destroyed circuitry. With her intended hiding place destroyed, Lyntael found herself on this paneling, finding that it didn't seem to hurt her at all. Rather, the electricity seemed to feed into her systems, patching up her wounds, though what little it did wasn't nearly enough to heal her satisfactorily. (+10)

In addition, a pneumatic hissing sound would be heard nearby as well--the Shellgeek had come out of its shell once again, and its eyes were definitely directed her way, along with both of the Ashuraids' helmeted faces. Nearby, the Sparky satellite hovered about aimlessly once more, though from its previous behavior, there was no reason to believe it wouldn't hurtle itself towards her once again after this.

Huddled up tightly against the ice pillar, hands gripping tight around her knees, Lyntael's shallow, panicked panting was swiftly driving her towards a light-headed fog as the seeping cold crept in through her increasingly damp clothes. Snatches of thought tried to tell her to calm down, or to breath deeper, but they were dashed away by the fear of being discovered. A sense of brightness to one side made her eyes peek open just long enough to see the sudden flash of sparking energy that careened towards her. A moment later, her vision went white.

There was no sound; there should have been. Muffled, there was the distant sense of it though. Cracking rock and falling stone, some kind of horrendous, throaty screech that quickly became a wet, faltering gurgle, and a hot, all-piercing ringing that reverberated through every corner of her world. The pain was there too, but detached, in a way that was so all-consuming there was no way to process it. Long seconds of nothingness passed as her brain shut out every sense that it couldn't handle.

The first strands of sensation to return was the broken mix of numbing, aching cold, and spikes of raging heat. Everywhere was freezing, except where painful injuries burned like inflamed beacons. Her body twitched and convulsed every other moment still, limbs locking up in bursts of tight constriction and each shift brought fresh spikes of heat as they scraped against the shattered rubble beneath her. Something warm was pressed against her cheek, but just below a sharp jag of rock scraped against the side of her neck every time another aftershock wracked her.

A cough made her form curl up on itself again roughly, and she noticed the thick, lumpy sensation of something in her mouth, tasting harsh and metal. She knew blood when she tasted it, and as her eyes flicked open, still blurry, she could see a spattered pattern of red, lit up by the glowing panel beneath her, already spread out from earlier coughs she hadn't felt. Her vision wouldn't clear, and each small residual twitch made them close again. The warmth from the ground was seeping into her slowly, trying to find a mid point between the numb void of her extremities losing sense, and the over-heated pressure of her injuries, but it wasn't really getting anywhere.

Something compelled her body to shift, rolling over on the panel and for a moment looking towards the rocky ceiling. Her head rolled to the side again, though, and the only thing before her vision was another assortment of broken rocks. She couldn't really feel anything properly or clearly, beyond the distant war of conflicting temperatures; couldn't even really tell if the movement had come from her, or something else. Any thoughts of the viruses surrounding her, or indeed her frightful flashbacks, has disappeared into the stunned shock that was dominating her now.

--

Watching on, Rogan had unconsciously moved from occasional glances at the PET in between doing his other preparatory work, to now holding it and focusing on the screen intently. The realisation that he was doing so didn't really register until her heard the plastic casing creak in his hand and he consciously loosened his grip on the device. He'd stopped trying to talk to Lyntael a few seconds back, when it became clear that nothing he was saying was reaching her at all.

Without really thinking about it, he analysed her behaviour; once he'd accepted that the simulations weren't her own doing, and that liked or not, the intent towards realism made them something she couldn't just choose to curtail... he'd started to pay more attention to what she was actually 'experiencing'. He still disliked the appellation, all things considered... but he'd seen this happen to the little program before. The sudden change in her behaviour had been stark, and she'd switched from looking nervous but determined, to flat out terrified and panicked, with very little around her actually changing. In earlier months he'd have dismissed that as an unrealistic flaw in the behavioural code... but looking at it now, he had to draw a different conclusion. In a human, this would be a panic attack, brought on by a past event... and all the pieces fit together for Lyntael, now. He had little doubt that the behaviours she was displaying were intended to simulate exactly that, and she simply wasn't hearing anything he tried to say, nor would until she 'calmed down'.

She was already badly damaged, but the readout on his screen was only showing general warnings; the more advanced screen had made an alert for review, but hadn't forced itself onto his screen just yet. Mostly it was only minor injuries to the extremities, and other easily patched flesh wounds.

His concerned, thoughtful analysis ended abruptly as the sparky virus happened upon her hiding place, and the gut-wrenching, inarticulate scream that followed sent him rigid for a moment. In a flash, the more advance vitals screen overtook his PET, showing her body schematic and full biological read. Just like before, Rogan cursed the design detail, when he didn't have the knowledge of a medical doctor... but even so the alerts were enough. Electrocution-induced capillary ruptures over much of her body, sever damage to fine organs, including her eyes, multiple internal ruptures and critical organ failures. Multiple myocardial infractions, leading to dangerous likelihood of cardiogenic shock. Beginning stages of circulatory shock, beginning stages of cold shock, wide-spread ligament and tissue tears... the alerts went on, and Rogan only had a vague idea what half of them meant. The amount of red on the display, however; more or less the entirety of her schematic, was enough to make his teeth clench tight.

Splitting the screen, he could see her crumpled body, the remnants of her new winter outfit badly damaged, and seeping through with read in many places. The body was twitching and convulsing as electricity remnants danced over it, seeming to conflict with the more natural charge he was used to seeing. A broad section of her leggings, from the groin down to her mid thighs, had turned a much darker colour, though he couldn't tell immediately if that was blood or just... water. It didn't matter. There were still plenty of viruses in her vicinity, and Lyntael was barely moving. She should have been crying. The thought struck him harshly and unexpected. She would normally be crying, or pleading, or begging him to let her run away, now, but there was nothing. Just shallow splutters that barely counted as breathing. His eyes darted about the screen for options. Normally she would have run; he was almost used to it, really. Seeing her run away from viruses, because she was 'scared' was something he'd been dealing with, and cursing her for, for all the months since she'd had her, and now she wasn't running away.

Forcefully, he unclenched his jaw. His finger hovered over the jack-out command, hesitating. This was why he was doing this anyway, wasn't it? The whole point of putting her through this while he worked was to expose her to it more until she stopped having these episodes. His hand shook as he watched the viruses moving. But what was she learning now? Really? The point was to push her to fight without having break downs or acting frightened. Was it really going to create any progress when she'd already had an attack? He closed his eyes for a moment and took a breath, then looked back. Again and again, he had to remind himself that this was still just a program, and he had a purpose for what he was doing. It felt hard, but that was on him; it wasn't real. The guilt was real, though. Unjustified and stupid, but still a very real feeling. One of the viruses moved and before he could think further, his finger stabbed the button to pull her out, then twice more in quick succession.

After witnessing the full extent of his training regime on his Navi, Rogan opted to forego what he thought was the most logical option and immediately sought for retreat. While he attempted to do so, Lyntael's systems continued to fight for her, as the destroyed panel under her fed more and more energy into her. Automatic self-preservation caused her defensive procedures to activate, creating an electrical ward about her (+5), just as the Shellgeek near her loosed an arrow towards it. (+5) While it was quite strong, it was repelled by the wildly uncontrollable surges, as did the rocket punches thrown by the faraway Ashuraid. (+5) All the while, the Sparky nearby appeared to watch for a moment (+5), appearing to be uninterested in participating in the all-out pummeling. (+5) Then, all of a sudden, it hurtled forward, its body covered with a powerful electrical charge, and smashed through what remained of her barrier, (+5) right before Rogan's frantic jack-out procedure finally completed, and Lyntael's body vanished in a flash of light, rescuing her from the cold wastes of the Sharo Net.
