Yay Netopia!

((Not really sure about the bomb count, tell me if it's wrong or not))

TennisMan's volley of Minibomb set the thick smokescreen around his Countbomb. The viruses had hard time finding where the bomb was located and blind fired through the smoke. When the smoke dispersed, TennisMan saw various changes to the field. First of all, few cracked panels were broken by the Minibombs explosion. Secondly, the Countbomb was partially damaged by a single N.O. beam and two flashbombs wasn't too far away from it.

The navi continued his attack with his TwinFang, which was a success as the two unsuspecting viruses was stabbed on their abdomen by the thick fang. Everything turned out alright for TennisMan, until he sidestepped into one of the cracked panels, causing it to break down and stuck the poor navi's lower half. This didn't stop the navi from continuing his assault as he shot two of his Tennis Balls in a long lob. One of the N.O. saw the ball coming from miles away, the other...Not so much.

((I have no idea how Countbomb works. I think you're doing it right.))

Tennisman hung to the edge of the hole with one hand, his other hand still firmly holding Deuce. He wondered how he managed to miss such a gaping pit in the ground and realized his own minibomb probably created it. The smoke definitely didn't help. He couldn't hang here forever and the pit was deep. He passed a glance down and saw nothing but black. He looked up and remembered the N.O.s and Yorts waiting for him. But he also remembered the Countbomb. He kept his belief that it would be his salvation though it wouldn't last long without some cover fire. He sighed and pulled himself up. If he was human it wouldn't have been nearly as easy, but as a navi it was a simple matter to augment his physical strength with a short boost. He crawled out and looked around. The area was still in terrible condition.

"No more," Tennisman said and tapped his racket to the hole-ridden ground, "Court Change."

The broken terrain began to even out, shifting to a more uniform shade of green. The cracked panels were quickly coated with a fuzzy layer of grass and soon, a familiar tennis court had completely replaced the ruined battlefield.

"Firehit!" Desmond called to his navi in advance.

Tennisman swiped his arm at a healthy N.O. and launched a flaming fist at the single virus but there were still three others to deal with and two new additions to the field: flashbombs. He tossed up a tennis ball and made a precision serve at one of the bombs.

"There are too many of them!" Tennisman said, smashing one more ball at the other flashbomb.

"Then Spice everyone!" Desmond answered, slotting in the chip.

Tennisman had little choice in the matter. As much as he didn't want to rely on this battlechip so frequently, it was still better than his alternatives. He dropped down low and activated the Spice in an instant. The field of grass seemed to cough and shake loose a cloud of spores that hovered low but wafted upwards. Tennisman exhaled and saw the spores part under his breath. For a moment, he wondered if the Yorts would even be affected; if they even breathed.

When TennisMan successfully pulled himself up from the broken panels, he found that his precious CountBomb was destroyed by the Yort's bladed Yo-yos. The Court Change covered up most of the cracked panels that proved to be a hassel for the navi, and used it to combo with his Firehit.

The destruction of the FlashBomb was successful as the balls penetrated through the bomb, causing a miniature explosion. The next attack with the Spice wasn't too successful as part of the virus group actually stood on the grass while the rest was on the unchanged fields. The viruses retaliated by setting up another pair of FlashBombs and sending two Yorts to fight against the navi. The First Yort's attack scratched the barrier, but the second one managed to break it and slash TennisMan's torso.

((Spice1 also causes confusion, which is "All actions taken have a large chance of failure, or hitting the wrong target, be it an attack or healing". Also, the barrier was on Deuce but whatever.))

Seeing the Countbomb fail once again made Tennisman doubt if it was useful against anything aside from a horde of Miners. His high hopes for an easy victory crushed in front of him, he decided it was probably for the best. He was here to train and winning with some cheap explosion wasn't going to help him.

Tennisman struck another two tennis balls at the Bighats' new Flashbombs to rid himself of them before they went off. He wasn't sure exactly what they did, but he didn't imagine it would be something nice. He was feeling fatigued now. The YortEXs had done a number on him and the Deuce's earlier Restringing was only a stop-gap measure. He knelt down and pressed a palm to the ground.

"Netplay." He said quietly.

The tennis net sprang up in the middle of his grassy field, completing the appearance of his tennis court. With the exception of the small singed patch of grass from his Firehit, it looked as if he could actually play tennis on it. The viruses paced on the other half of the field and beyond. A suitable place for Tennisman's opponents. He felt at home and could focus more readily at the task at hand.

"Aquaneedle and Lilbomb." Tennisman said and got to his feet.

Three spikes shot down from the sky, crashing down over an N.O. and the Bighats while Tennisman prepared his racket for the upcoming attack. He brushed his nose and held out his hand to recieve the Lilbomb. He tossed it up and served it at the YortEX in an impressive blast, shattering nearby cracked panels.

"Guard up!" Desmond said.

The Guard chip was loaded into Deuce and Tennisman took up a returning stance.

The FlashBombs were disposed again by TennisMan's quick attacks with his racket. The bombs caused a larger explosion than before, causing a smoking wall between the navi and the viruses. TennisMan took this time to prepare his net and continue his attack with the needles and the bomb.

His attack with the AquaNeedle1 was a success when it pierced through the Bighats with ease while slightly damaging the N.O. virus. The lilbomb's explosion destroyed the Yort into pieces of scraps, flying straight to his fellow viruses with the help of the bomb. The remaining Yorts tried to set his revenge against his fellow comrade, but it was easily countered by TennisMan's Guard chip and his Net.

Less than half of the viral forces remained and all of them looked damaged; some more than others. Tennisman brought out two more tennis balls, serving both directly at the weakest virus - An N.O. that was still coughing up Spice spores.

"Kunai, Pickpocket, MarkCannon and Windracket." Tennisman said, queueing up his attacks.

"Ok- wait, Pickpocket? Really?" Desmond asked, "That's not like you at all."

"You would have sent it regardless." Tennisman said.

Desmond paused for a moment, "...You're right. Aight, let's do this thing!"

Tennisman dropped his hand to his side, ushering forth a cache of blades from seemingly down his sleeve. He flashed his arm out in a blur, sending the razor edged daggers at the equally sharp saw of one of the Yort EXs. Next, he activated the Pickpocket.

He wasn't fond of the small furry rodent looking thing or what it did, but if he had to use it, he would prefer to use it on his terms and not on the whim of his operator. There was no planning on Desmond's part when this chip came into play and was often a wrench in the fine machinations of Tennisman's planning. Tennisman needed a distraction to execute his next shot. MarkCannons were amazingly precise but they still wouldn't punch through a Yort's saw once deployed. Tennisman order his Bandacoon to dash to the virus while zigzagging while he strafed around to aim for the vulnerable side of his target. The masked creature hopped across adjacent panels in quick bursts and on the final panel, leapt up and onto the Yort. Tennisman didn't want to fire too early. At the very least, if the Bandacoon was successful, he might be able to pocket some extra zenny for Desmond. He waited while keeping an eye on the other viruses. The Bandacoon dropped off and scurried away, giving Tennisman a clean shot. He had already given himself ample time to get a lock and only had to fire.

"Bang!" Deuce sounded in unison with the gunshot.

Tennisman's buster took on its normal form before finally reverying to a normal hand. He bent down slightly to dash and took off after the his last target. The Windracket data channeled down into Deuce and created a vortex of wind that churned around his face like a barrier. Tennisman tried to avoid a direct hit from the N.O.'s laser as he made his approach and grabbed his racket tightly with both hands as he closed in.

"WINDRACKET!" He called out, scratching out blades of wind that clawed at the virus with more force than any of his other attacks.

The bandicoon zips out and manages to steal a large amount of zenny from the remaining Yort. The attacked in retaliation, but the Yo-yo stops spinning and merely smacks Tennisman as its owner was destroyed by our hero's markcannon. Tennisman sheathed Deuce onto his back and exited his battle routine. The Bandacoon's enormous haul dwarfed the rewards the viruses had dropped and Tennisman thought it would be enough to call it a day.

"Still not enough..." Desmond muttered to himself.

The navi looked puzzled, his operator wasn't normally this greedy, "What are you planning on purchasing?"

"Oh you know... Stuff." Desmond answered.

Tennisman decided not to press the matter and simply nodded, picking up the chip data that one of the Yorts had apparently dropped.

"Yo-yo." Tennisman reported.

"NICE! Out with the Minibomb and in with the news!" Desmond said and fiddled with the chip folders once more.

"Shall we?" Deuce asked, impatiently.

Taking one final look of the area, he left the scene in search for enough zenny to appease his operator.

((Battle 7))
Tennisman sees several viruses in the distance, and moves in to investigate. Several tall structures are flanked by short, round pots and round floating viruses. Several other viruses hang from the ceiling. One of the tall structures opens fire, Tennisman sidesteps out of the way just in time. The terrain looks heavily worn, some of the panels cracked from seemingly constant stress.

"Hold up! Don't move!" Desmond ordered.

Tennisman could see why his operator was concerned. The ground was in terrible condition and one wrong step could drop him in another hole. After his last battle, he had grown to dislike cracked panels.

"Plans?" Deuce asked.

There were many more virii this time around and not a lot of time to deal with them. Dealing with one group meant being vulnerable to the rest. He was prepared to endure a few hits but he wasn't looking forward to it. That was when the Kettles caught his eye. To him, they didn't look so much like viruses as they did remote bombs. All he had to do was hit one in the right place. The Basher group looked as good a target as any - They were strong, slow and most importantly, immobile.

"Aquaneedle and Heatshot." Tennisman said.

"...Those are like the weakest chips in the folder." Desmond lamented.

Tennisman was already well aware of this. The chips were reluntantly slotted in and the navi quickly put his plan into action. He snapped his arm out, calling forth a stalagtite to drop over each of the Bashers. Next, he took aim at a Kettle while still holding Deuce firmly with his other arm. He fired off the Heatshot and switched arms, swinging Deuce with an upward slicing twist. A powerful gust of wind picked up beside the Kettle, blowing towards the Bashers.

"Four birds with one pot." Desmond said, "...Nice."

It was his hope that the Kettle would finish the job for him, otherwise he'd have to contend with a group of angry, minorly damaged virii.

Meanwhile, Deuce had come up with his own plan, "Aim for the Billys with a Ringlog. The Weathers can wait."

It was a good assessment that Tennisman agreed to, and he officially requested the chip from his operator, "Ringlog."

"SERIOUSLY. WE HAVE A KATANA." Desmond pointed out, "ELECPULSE. WINDRACKET. TWINFANG."

"None of which are appropriate at this range." Tennisman objected, "Ringlog, please."

Desmond made an audible sigh and slotted the chip in. Surprisingly the log materialized into two pieces in front of Tennisman. It was an unusual but he wasn't one to look a gift horse in the mouth and gave both logs a firm kick, sending both rolling into the electric viruses.

"When did you acquire another Ringlog?" Tennisman asked.

"Didn't. It's some trick you can do with the chip. Picked it up on a BBS." Desmond replied.

"How quaint." Deuce said.

Tennisman had nothing to say as he was still focussed on the task at hand. He tried to finish the Ringlogs' job with an Ace Serve. Several balls were served at the surviving viruses in a quick burst of yellow streaks.

TennisMan used his chips, skills, and kettles to make quick work on the viruses. The Billies were deleted instantly by the ringlogs and most of the Bashers were wiped out by the burning water of the Kettle virus. The weather viruses, who wasn't targeted from the navi, suddenly made a back attack on TennisMan and Deuce!

"Elecpulse!" He cried, still reeling from the icy blast that had caught him unexpectedly.

"AW YEAH! THAT'S WHAT I WANNA HEAR!" Desmond shouted.

The powerful electric pulse rang out towards the hanging viruses in a short range burst. He dropped his hand and reverted back to a double-handed grip on Deuce, alerting his operator to his next request.

"Windracket!" Desmond added.

Tennisman swept up his racket in a wide arc across the Weathers in another attack and gouged out a deadly wave of wind in the small space between himself and the virus group.

"One of the Bashers is still alive." informed Deuce.

Tennisman turned again, raising his buster, "Hi-Cannon."

Strategy was thrown out the window now and replaced with the raw power of his strongest attacks. Desmond sounded overjoyed at the new development and slotted in the chip in a flash. Tennisman fired his cannon and surveyed the area once more. There was a Kettle that hadn't been dealt with.

"Heatshot." Tennisman said.

Desmond was disheartened at the request, "Mannn... I hoped you'd make an epic finish. Fine, whatever."

Tennisman didn't care how it ended as long as it ended quickly. He swung his buster over to the teapot, took aim and unleashed the ball of flame in a brilliant spray of embers.

The last surviving Basher lasted a couple more seconds when the Hi-cannon missed when the navi slipped on the Ice Panels. Quickly getting up, he lit the kettle again to finish the last Basher...then he slipped again.

Tennisman analyzed the data and reported, "1320 zenny."

"That's... mn... OK! JACKING OUT!" shouted Desmond.

Tennisman could only manage a half uttered, "Wh-" before he was pulled from the network in a beam of light.

((ACDC Town))
Tennisman landed at the starting point of his last excursion. It would be a long way back to where he had left but he was in no rush. He opened his palm and called out for his support program, "Deuce."

In a similar beam of light, the racket materialized in his hand sporting the usual coat of black and red.

"Gentlemen," Deuce greeted, "Do I detect some newly acquired customizations installed in Tennisman? Very nice. Very nice indeed."

"Hey, does the speed upgrade thing make Deuce better?"

"We will see." Tennisman said and began to look for viruses to test his newfound powers on.

((Battle 1))
TennisMan and Deuce's newly acquired power surely made them feel invicible, but that doesn't mean the viruses won't stop from attacking them! From far away, a group of CanoGuards prepared their cannons and locked on to TennisMan and Deuce!

Tennisman and Desmond reacted together in unison against the sudden attack. Guard chips were slotted in while Tennisman stood his ground with his best returning stance. Deuce had already been prepared with a solid Overwrap and taken on a dynamic flashing yellow aura from the queued up chips.

"Man, this is SO much easier than real tennis." Desmond said.

Tennisman concurred, "The ball does not come to you in real tennis." and delivered a series of fast paced returns against the CanoGuard array one after another while running in closer.

"Damn, you are faster!" commented his operator, "Going for a netplay?"

Tennisman chose not to respond, letting his actions speak for him. As he approached the line of cannons, he sprayed up a cluster of tennis balls and smashed them all into the strongest looking of the bunch before strafing to the side.

The chips loaded together, forming two spherical explosives in his hand. He tossed up the lumpy Energybomb up first, smashing it at the EX cannon and watched it soar right on target. He remembered a time when trying to serve that chip was a pain but now, it seemed a second nature to him.
