Stick To The Path

<<< From Science Labs: Club Cybernetic <<<

The drop selector found a nice, mostly-untravelled part of the network and positioned the teleportation point on a small plain around seven sectors away from the Scilab mainframe. Once locked down, the point became bright as a stream of black energy phased onto it and reassembled to become Recon.

Stepping off before it disappeared into nothing, Recon looked around his new surroundings. Everything was different compared to his first two passages on this network, and yet, something seemed familiar about this particular zone. He could already feel his mind playing tricks on him, but as long as they didn't interfere with his battling, he didn't really care.

It was nice to rediscover his past; Steve wouldn't say much, even when he'd asked. Recon had already concluded that any information about his history would have to come from his locked-down memory... but only if he could figure out how to access it.

The appearance of light quickly grabbed Recon's attention. Another bright path flashed in front of Recon, pulsing light a certain direction, as if it wanted him to follow. That direction, however, led him further away from the mainframe and towards the outer sectors. Can't hurt to follow, he reasoned as he began the journey towards sector eight. Just keep away from IronShields, he chuckled to himself as walked.

Bump
ANOTHER PRE-BATTLE BUMP.
Recon innocently followed the pulsating path, enjoying the temporary peace before he encountered more viruses. Before long, the navi began to hear thunderclap...but it felt very unnatural as it wasn't as audible as a real one. He then saw two remotebits floating around the field, discharging electricity down to the metal floor, with three viruses not so far away from the bits

Already feeling the tingle of the electricity running through the terrains under his feet, Recon was already engaged in another battle!

-BATTLE ONE, START!-
The faint pulse of electricity was a reason for caution, and Recon's thoughts quickly became reality as a familiar foe reappeared in front of him: a Remotebit. His remembered history so far with this virus was not good; last time they had met, the floating virus had scored bonus damage due to the Metal's amplifying effects. As he saw the reflective nature of the Metal terrain underneath him, Recon had flashes of deja vu. Not this time, he spoke to the Remotebit as he eyed the source of his foe: not one, but two Twistys, and something new, closely resembling a small pile of dirt. Wait, two Twistys? Suddenly noticing the second Remotebit floating behind his partner, he started running towards their spiky-haired masters, hoping to escape their lightning tendancies.

As Recon got closer to the trio of virii, he called out to his operator once again. Boomerang, Steve, he requested as he started looking for the best place to attack. No response came from the man, but the chip data travelled to his body just the same. The EAAS appeared on screen, ready to start plotting a course. Recon had an idea: since the Remotebits discharged an electric attack, it was safe to say the Twistys were electrical as well. The wooden nature of the Boomerang was sure to inflict more damage onto their systems than his regular attacks. As the curved wooden object appeared and materialized in his hand, however, the targeting system beeped in error tones. Sorry, but I have no idea on how to traject a course for that, it apologized.

That's because it doesn't follow a set path everytime, it's all about the skill of the individual throw, Recon acknowledged as he dismissed the aiming cursors and wound back his arm. He'd seen firsthand what the Boomer was capable of, and was pretty sure it could be easily duplicated for maximum damage. The Twistys were mostly stationary, but he wasn't sure about the last virus. Send me the Zapring as well, he commanded as he threw the boomerang with a left twist, arcing it towards the edge of the field. As it changed course and headed towards the first Twisty, Recon's Zapring quickly replaced the hand that had held the wooden stick, creating a small static field in its wake. Happy to have a compatible device, the EAAS kicked in once again and locked itself onto the mound. Target confirmed, you may fire when ready, it alerted as the focus overlapped and locked down.

More than happy to, he replied as the energy charged in the coils moved to the pylon, which then fired the bolt of electricity with a fast pace towards its target, sparking as it travelled. After all, electricity dealt more damage to me when I stand on metal, it ought to do the same to others, right?

The remotebits began to rain down lightning all over the place, but thank God Recon was no where near it. Approaching the immobile Twisties, the well thrown boomerang sliced through both viruses like hot knife through a butter and even came straight back to its owner! Only to disappear the moment after...

The Dynamite began to panic and placed a special bomb in front of itself, firing a trip laser straight through Recon! However, the zapring shortly thrown by the navi destroyed it and it proved to be harmless scrap.

If [R2]+[R3] is illegal, consider it two seperate attacks at the same enemy and let me know.

The curved path of the boomerang proved to be nothing short of spectacular, taking out both Twistys in its flight. Although it didn't curve far enough to include the hill, two out of three was a great result. The Zapring would have been a good way to end the attack, but Recon was just thankful the bomb generated by the hill didn't bring him any harm.

Hmm... he wondered, calculating what could take out his final foe in one swift action. Alas, nothing in his collection was capable of a one-hit takedown. I guess the collective will have to do, he decided out loud. Guard, Shotgun and Cannon, and some information on this virus too, if you don't mind, he commanded his operator while maintaining his stare at the last virus.

Dynamyte, Steve mumbled groggily as he fingered his way through the folder. He wanted.... Guard.... and Shotgun.... and Cannon.... he talked to himself as he struggled to complete this rather simple request. As he double-checked he had the right ones, he slid them into the PET one at a time, and once they had all assimilated into the device, he pressed the [Send] command and slumped into his chair, half passed-out, half exhausted.

Dynamyte, eh? Are the bombs the only thing they attack with? he replied as the first chip appeared in front of him. Grabbing the shield and hiding most of his body behind it, Recon asked again. Steve? What else does it do? he called out as the next chip began transforming his arm into the Shotgun he loved so much. Once again, no reply. Recon wasn't sure what to make of this, but he decided that once this battle was over, he needed to find out what was going on in the surface world. Taking his aim at the Dynamite, Recon could feel the Cannon date queue in his chip cache, ready to replace the Shotgun once it had been expelled.

Do you want to chip-chain? the EAAS asked, analysing the cache at the same time as Recon.

Chip-chain? Recon asked.

It's the process of linking two attacks into one stream, the EAAS explained. It takes twice as lon- it tried to explain, but Recon cut it off. Just do it, he ordered. The Cannon's data surged into the Shotgun, and the result was rather bizarre: Shotgun pellets with the trailling push-force of the Cannon's knockback.

Target confirmed, the vizor alerted him as his aiming sights overlapped onto the mound.

Let's give this a shot, Recon muttered under his breath as he fired the chip combo, unaware of the extremely bad pun he'd just uttered.

A bump to land me in trouble.
Loading up a Guard shield to protect his front, Recon merged his remaining battlechip data into one powerful attack, imbuing the Cannon's incredible recoil force with the Shotgun's superior firepower. As a result, the Dynamite got a dose of high-powered boolet rain, and got knocked back a little in the process, causing its aim with its grenade to veer off course. The laser-trip bomb fell short of Recon's position, its laser pointed perpendicular to where he was facing.

Recon's Guard shield remained intact, not taking a single hit. Recon looked from behind said shield at his last foe. It had taken a lot of damage, but it was still alive. It had, however, managed to plant a second bomb, but the trigger seemed to be pointed away from him.

Finally, a chance to see if this does what Steve says it does, Recon stated as he reached behind his back and brought forth the S-99. The bomb was interfering with his attack path, and according to his operator, the S-99's shots could pass through objects once it had a lock on the target. However, he'd need some help to do that.

Target the Dynamyte only? it asked.

Recon's palm steadied the scope as he lined up the shot. Indeed, he replied.

Confirmed, the system beeped as he targeting disks not only secured their location onto the dirt mound, but also shifted back to the original red that Recon had seen before. Recon squeezed the trigger and a casing flew out the back as another bullet flew out of tube, with only one virus it wanted to hit.

With the Dynamyte accounted for, Recon slid back the S-99 and pulled forward the D-01. Fight fire with fire, he chuckled as he released a rogue rocket towards the stationary explosive. The only thing left to do now was pull the Guard back into place and survey the coming result.
