I am quite curious as to certain scenarios in RERN. There have been times where I was in a battle against viruses, but decided not to delete them. My first time was when I had my Navi, Kitsune. He was fighting three metools, but instead of killing them, he befriended them and they helped him in his next battle. My second time is recent, with my current Navi. There were Bunnies guarding a Mystery Data, and my NetOp found that to be quite strange, so he ordered his Navi to stay still and simply study them. My navi, Vax, eventually creeped the Bunnies out due to just staring, unmoving, so they retreated with the Data.
I doubt I am the first to do stuff like this, and KNOW I am not the only one. Anyone else here have stories where Virus "Battles" were not Battles at all?

Musou does stuff like this all the time. In fact, it's happened so often that it's affected his personality and goals in the net. He has begun to actively recruit viruses, navis, humans, anyone really that will band together into a 'net militia', if you will. He knows some of the net denizens/viruses don't really want to fight and often do it out of self-defense.
I think my biggest scenarios to date were when Musou befriended a group of viruses outside a kind of ruins on the net. They went in there together and explored as a group. They fought together against possessed and corrupt viruses inside and it finished with Musou taking on a big scarey thing out of a sarcophagus while the viruses held off the thing's backup for me. In the end they all shook hands and parted as friends.
More than once he has extended his hand in peace to viruses he encountered and they all just peacefully, or awkwardly at least, parted ways.
More recently he bumped into a group of swordys marching in formation, led by a captain swordy. Impressed at their organization and discipline, he offered to help them. And became the spearhead of their attack on a nearby fortress full of their enemies! The swordys are clashing in the fields with tons of metools and defenders while Musou is taking out the main defenders at the front gate. If I would log on more often I'd be done with it by now, heh.
The idea is, the net will always be bubbling over with chaos because it's a lawless 'wild west', and if he helps organize them more peaceful-minded types the net can defend and regulate them selves without desperate need of police, leadership from a bittersweet mafia or any mob of large-breasted women led by a shogun. Ok, that last one could be awesome actually. I know from the standpoint of a roleplaying game there will need to be limitless baddies to bust, but his dream evolved from a realistic (if naive) desire for peace on the net.

I too have a sob story... my navi, the very light of my life who has been a spiritual guide to me as well as one of my finest pupils (and is basically perfect in every way but this) succumbed to her weakness recently, just like you all have. She encountered a den of Spikies, a giant and a number of puppies. The large one was causing rampant destruction of valuable net corn! Straight and to the point: my kind-hearted navi let the little devil dogs live and now they continue to plague the net with their deceptively adorable existence.
As the founder of Counterinfectualism, I want you all to know remember: to err is but human! Remember that it is a sin against our future paradise, our own utopia, to let a virus live! They will confuse you with "intelligent" behavior. They will foster feelings of mercy in you, buying time for their escape. They will prey off of your navis' helpful and well-meaning gestures. No virus must live! Join my cause and kill all viruses, the manifestations of evil whose destruction is necessary to start a new era! If you're already killing viruses just for the data that pops out, that's good too!
The viruss may seem endless but I am almost 100% positive they aren't! We just have to keep killing them until their evil presence is entirely depleted from the world around us. Together, perhaps not in my life time or yours, we will achieve world peace and go down as saints! Well, I will, anyway; if you do enough you might too! We can have lots of saints.
Think of the tears of my navi! Those viruses, by presenting themselves to her as helpless puppies, caused her severe emotional turmoil as she was forced to consider whether or not to delete them! I won't allow creatures that menace my perfect angel to exist!

Just remember, everyone: if you find a virus that isn't actively malicious towards your Navi, you can always try and have it transferred to the DNN Virus Zoo, which seeks to obtain such viruses, and grant them peaceful lives, without fear of deletion. No one's managed to transfer any ordinary viruses yet, but those Spikey pups Burt mentioned were sent there, and will serve as mascots once the zoo has enough attractions to properly open. So, if you want to make sure that your virus friends don't suffer the same fate as their mindless counterparts, try convincing them to be transferred to the zoo!
