A long night in Toronto....

Kale's phone beeped at him urgently, which eventually caused him to wake up, albeit reluctantly. He looked... tired did not quite describe it as the man looked up, realized the doctor he'd been waiting for had arrived, and began to stand up. He winced as he realized the meds he'd taken four hours ago had worn off, but he managed to stand up without so much as a complaint. "Dr. Adler, I presume," the detective said in the general direction of the pair that entered the room.
"Lieutenant Barrett." Cassidy inclined her head slightly. "You don't look well. You should be resting in one of our beds. No matter how much we can fix in a day, it won't stay that way if you're on the warpath."

She waved toward the man slightly behind her. "This is Daniel Shields, he provided the implants for Adrian Rogers Tremblay."
Daniel winced at the full name. Could it get any more androgynous?

"G'mornin', officer."
Liz slowly rose from her seat, almost moving completely on instinct. She didn't acknowledge the others around her, she just moved towards the vending machines once more. She fumbled around a bit looking for her method of payment, before selecting two of the drink with the most caffeine she could choose.

Sweet nectar of the gods in hand, she returned to her seat zombified, before cracking into one and immediately chugging it as fast as she could.
Kale went from a patient expression on his face to slightly confused when Cassidy said something about him being on the warpath. That's a new one on me. I'm just doing my job, keeping my witnesses alive. He nodded to Daniel. "Thank you Mr. Shields, but you look like you need that thing called sleep.... Go home." Kale then turned his attention back to Cassidy. "Dr. Adler, how his Mr. Tremblay doing?"
"He's in stable condition, and asleep right now. His implant was fried, it was a hack job and you can quote me on that if you like. Whoever put that in was just asking for an accident to happen and should be sued for negligence. I'd also like to personally throw what remains of the implant at them, if you can arrange that, that would be wonderful." Cassidy paused.

"You aren't thinking of interrogating him right now, are you? He may be your lead in this, but he's at a very sensitive juncture. He needs at least a full night's rest before questioning, then familiarizing with his new implants. This isn't a facial or a boob-job. His central nervous system was submitted to what appears to be electric shock, which fried his prior implant, which didn't have any protection against that. Adrian Rogers Tremblay may require rehabilitation after what occurred to him." Her expression was now irritated, a shift from amicable.
For a moment, Daniel stared at Detective Barrett blankly for a while, then exhaled loudly. Finally.

"Well, all right, then," he said, as he let himself out the door with his hands up in the air. It took everything for him not to pump his fist in the air afterwards.
Liz just continued to polish of the contents of the first can. No one was bothering her, so she was just going to continue to keep to herself as she regained her energy, albeit artificially. Who was going to tell her she was wrong to do so, after all? The girl needed her brain power for the things she had planned.
Kale shrugged. "Sure. I'll mention it to the Chief." He didn't really care, but if it was a quack job, better to shut that sort of thing down. Mayflower would remind him sometime later, when he wasn't dead on his feet. As for his witness.... "No, I don't need to see him about what he saw right this minute. Or even today. Not if it means he can;t take the witness stand because I slowed down his recovery in my own haste... which is just unnecessary cop drama crap people think up anyway. Let him sleep." Kale yawned. "I can't leave, though. For whatever reason, nobody has been sent to relieve me yet, so I've been keeping this lively young woman..." the sarcasm in Kale's voice was as evident as the irony it presented as he indicated the zombified Elizabeth "...company for her own safety, and Adrian's. Sadly, I cannot be in two places at once, and the people out there last night meant business." Kale was clearly profoundly unhappy as he finished speaking. It was clear he wanted to send everyone home, and go home himself, but dared not.

None of these other fools had guns on them.
"Do you mean to say, imply, insinuate, that they're not out of danger yet? And that there may be people, with firearms, on the premises?" Cassidy's expression darkened quickly, her hand moving up to her face's left side. She ran her fingers back and forth over the keloidal tissue there.

"Mneme, what were the caliber of the bullets-"

"9 Millimeter." Mneme's response came as quickly as the query.

"Ah." Cassidy brought her fingers together, then to her face. "Ahh. Shit."

"That is quite apropos." Mneme brought up a series of diagrams, then proceeded to cause them to disappear, then stopped.

"Detective, you are most versed in these matters. What can we do to prevent information from here from leaving, and what would you have us do? Alerting the hospital will simply result in panic. The best method seems that you would want to have backup, and there is very little in the way of that here. Is there a reason you have been unable to establish contact with your department?" Cassidy inclined her head.
"Like putting up with you has been a picnic..." Liz muttered, taking a breath before opening the second can and resuming her guzzling.

She should probably wait for the first one to kick in, but she wanted to be up and running. She still had a lot to do, and a lot to figure out about that tablet and she wanted to get started ASAP. Finishing these drinks was the only thing standing between her and her precious electronics, and she would defeat them swiftly!
"Oh, I have been in contact with my department. That's how I know the other victim, or what was left of him, had to be washed off the station platform with a fire hose." Kale frowned. "They told me they'd send a relief detachment here when they were done with countless other tasks related to this crime. This worries me, as witness protection is usually top of the list." He scratched his chin. "Something is very wrong...."

Meanwhile, Daniel was heading to the front desk to sign out. The morning receptionist was there; bright and cheerful smile upon her face. A grizzled looking man in a long coat thanked her after signing out, and headed out the front door about the time Daniel arrived....
Daniel sauntered over to the receptionist's desk with the happiest look he could muster, and raised his hand in greeting. A card appeared from his other hand and made its way onto the desk. "I'll be on my way out," he said, gesturing towards his ID.
The receptionist nodded with a smile as she cheerfully added: "Have a good day, then."

Meanwhile, a large silver sedan pulls into view directly in front of the door, and stops....
"You too," said Daniel, a smile on his face. Damn, he was even being courteous and all that. Bed's a-waitin'! he thought, nearly skipping towards the front door. He didn't really give much thought to the sedan that had just pulled up; his sights were focused on jumping into his car, and the road that it would lead to, and subsequently his pillow. Other things took less priority.
Daniel was just about to the front door when a strange mechanical buzzing noise reached his ears, and was growing louder with a quickness. It got even his sleepy mind's attention, which had just glossed over the fact that the men getting out of the silver sedan were all armed. The noise was really that odd. Daniel's hand had just touched the push bar for the front door when the source of the noise, a freakishly strange dark gray helicopter with two rotors stacked atop each other buzzed into view. The thing had no tail rotor, and it looked like it was being pushed by a plane propeller.

Whatever the thing was, the front end of it spat gunfire, the building shook, the receptionist freaked out, and the overhang covering the place where the parked silver sedan was sitting crashed down atop the car and the armed men.

...And the only thing separating Daniel from sharing their fate of being buried under half a meter of debris, which now completely blocked the entrance, was a 1 centimeter thick plexiglass door he'd neglected to open because he was tired and distracted.
Daniel's rear end found itself on the floor. His eyes stared, wide awake, at the mountain of concrete and glass behind the plexiglass door, and his jaw wouldn't close itself. What just-- his head attempted to think. It wasn't cooperating very well, as he took a full 10 seconds before realizing that something was pretty wrong. Screaming in terror, he scrambled and crawled off the floor before tearing off back into the hospital.
Daniel and the receptionist bolted down the hall while behind them the sound of constant small arms fire outside was occasionally interrupted by an attack helicopter's auto-cannon.

Meanwhile, as if to punctuate the detective's words, the building vibrated a bit as many very bad sounds made their way into the waiting room. Kale, who was already on his feet, turned and made his way to the waiting room door. "That sounded... bad," he muttered. He poked his head into the hallway, fully disbelieving what he was hearing.

And then there was screaming people running his way.

"Hey, you two, in here," Kale barked at the fleeing figures with authority. The nurse complied without thinking, and ran right for the waiting room.
Without much thinking, Daniel shot into the room, and screeched to a halt. Resting his hands on his knees, he panted heavily as he tried not to let the bile in his throat rise up. "H-- hhh-- hel-- helicopter... g-- guns," he gasped in between strained breaths.
"O....K.... Breathe, Mr. Shields," Kale responded as he moved back into the room with the two... refugees. He did not want to draw the obvious conclusion from what he just heard. Can I not have the bad day this sounds like I'm having, please? So... Kale waited for the man to catch his breath, then asked him: "Now, what's going on out there?"
