The combat won, Dignity's engine geared down around Phase's ears into a low, brassy purr. A soft beep sounded off on the console, and then her body was back under her control. Immediately she was wrestling out of the strapping and shaking her various limbs out. "Well, Vincent, I've got some constructive feedback for you later on the seat design, but the Dignity's sitting pretty, just like you said," Phase admitted sheepishly, glancing at the screenbanks. Already, she was learning to read them as she announced, "Write protection's at full, no direct hits; looks like we're picking up a data upload, too. Good driving, big guy!"
Vincent grinned, working a kink out of his shoulder. "I must say, I must - that felt precisely as I hoped it would," he announced. Noticing Critias still hadn't had any luck moving, he cleared his throat. "Give our comrades a hand, would you?"
"Oh! Of course, just let me -" Phase startled, flailing a moment as the responsibility of piloting was put, once more, in her lap. Taking a few careful steps around the instruments, she lowered the Dignity's hand down until it rested, palm open, just within Critias' reach. "Grab on, and I'll lift you off the magnets. Don't climb up yet, I want to have a look at something down there," she instructed. When she was satisfied she'd been understood, she pulled the giant brass hand up and took a step back, taking her hands off the controls and thus locking the titan in place. Clambering out of her stirrups and winching the hatch open, she shimmied out from under the shoulder guard and started her way down the mech's side. "Any *puff* chance of installing an elevator?" she called about halfway down, smirking to belie the joke.
As soon as her feet hit ground, the researcher came out in Phase's expression: namely, in a huge excited grin. The Dignity might be a burgeoning master of all things aquatic, but her true element was and would always be Science. "I wonder what these things were meant to study? Did someone set these up and the viruses moved in after? Or maybe the viruses were doing an experiment?" she babbled to nobody in particular a mile a minute, head whipping from one high-tech implement to the next. Motion caught her eye, and she peered at the spinning diamond. "One of these is not like the other~" she sang, skipping a little as she moved to investigate. Her arms came unconsciously up to chest height as she went, making excited little grabby-hands towards the Science. Watching this, Vincent could only laugh and shake his head, giving Yu a wry look. 'Scientists,' he mouthed across the room.

Critias gladly accepted the help despite Yusaku whining that they could do it on their own.
"Oof. I let my guard down there. Won't happen again." He declared, stretching his slightly sore muscles. Then, the young man turned around to face his friend. "You two did great there. Well, it'd be better if you both tried to collaborate a bit more. Still while you puppeteered her around a little you guys managed to find your grove. Cooperation and instincts will come later on..."
Critias in the meantime was trailing behind the small girl, keeping a watchful eye over the area to ensure she was safe. "Looks like they were mostly either trying to use these machinery to replicate or they were trying to destroy something...or actually."
He slithered to Phase's side, keeping low so that she would be too scared of his 3m height again. His ears flicked as he pointed at the thing in her hands. "Were trying to hide that. Besides the color and shoddy attempt at masking I can safely say that's a Green Mystery data, sure smells like one. Be careful when you access it though. Make sure it aint a trap."
He didnt need Yu to know his next assignment would be to be ready to jump in and defend Phase from a mimick. For now though the large bat tried to keep his distance from Phase despite really wanting some ear scritces. He was honoring Vincent's wish after all. In the meantime, he reached down for a lump of bugged data leftover from their fight and swallowed it whole.

With the data packet glowing between her outstretched palms, a lightbulb moment visibly went off behind Phase's eyes. "Oh wow," she breathed through a tremendous grin, "I totally get the hype behind NetBattling now. You don't get instant gratification like this just anywhere." Beaming the chip up to Vincent's PET was small work; riding the gleeful high as her Operator oohed and ahhed over their share of the treasure, she meandered through the experiment's remains, humming a cheerful old folktune as she went.
Gentle clicks of talons against metal announced Critias' presence. The wyvern was prowling low behind Phase now, looming in a way that not ten minutes ago would've terrified the slight youth. Having seen him fight so viciously in her defence, while alarming, went a long way towards their tentative rapport. Some part of her yet refused to turn her back on him, but keeping a peripheral eye on caused no flare of panic, even as close as he kept to her heels. There was a serpentine fluidity to his motion that was oddly soothing to watch...
...until Critias decided he was hungry, and proceeded to hork down an oozing, fist-sized dollop of something Phase's eyes refused to identify. Flabbergasted, she sputtered, "Wh-...you...that can't be sanitary!?" She wheeled around, nearly toe to toe, staring him dead in the face with wide, disbelieving eyes. In her momentary shock, she completely forgot to be afraid of him.

Critias reared back like a kid caugt with their hands in the cookie jar. He didn't expect Phase of all people to suddenly act like that.
He stared at her, shocked, with stuff still in his mouth, half chewed. "Whaf?" He asked, shrugging his shoulders. "I waf hunfry. Thif if freef foof nof?"
Yusaku on the other side turned over to Vincent to check the old man didn't have a heart attack. He raised one of his claws and pressed on his neck with two fingers. A comm device beeped right under his suit's jaw.
"In case you both didn't get it by now, Critias is...rather special. He's one of the few navis people call...well...glitch eaters. They are also known as Bug navis."
"Effaftly." Critias reprised, swallowing the thing down. "I mean, everything is tasty around here. I even eat Bugfrags. Those are really tasty."
He gave Phase a mischievous smile, slowly slithering ever closer and lowering down eye to eye, ears splayed back on his head.
"It's the stuff that gives me my powers, Sunshine. Though it seems it also lighted up your fire, I should eat more often. Kekekeke."

Contrary to Yu's concerns, Vincent was significantly less affected than this Navi. He peered at Critias' hologram, fascinated. "That does go a long way to explaining Critias' more...primal characteristics," the giant mused. Long, spindly fingers folded around his chin as the gears of his Science Brain churned. Absently, he murmured, "The organic design, for one...but no, Yusaku designed him that way, he could've looked like anything. No, it's the niche, the ecological niche he occupies - that's it!"
With an impressive snap, Vincent's outstretched finger shot skyward. "He's like a white blood cell in a body! Critias is adapted to grow strong by pruning the broken, unusable code out of the Net, and it's a free banquet for him and others like him, since they're the only Navis that are adapted to glitches. I wonder if the Net itself creates Bug-type entities, to maintain its own virtual ecosystem? Or does it rely on the people to provide Navis for the job? Granted, other Navis eat, even Phase has to now, but these Navis almost have to in order to operate as intended. Yu, has Critias always done this?" Utterly at ease as he babbled away, it was as though Vincent had completely forgotten that his skintight jumpsuit displayed his skeletal anatomy in near-entirety.
Phase, in a perfect mirror to Critias' initial shock, reared back as Critias provided his side through a very full mouth. Grimacing, she raised her hands to her face to deflect any accidental projectiles. "Well, you can get your powers with your mouth closed, if you would be so kind," Phase snapped, eyes sparking with a teacher's air of 'student needs discipline'. Taking a couple steps back for propriety's sake, she whisked a hand through her short hair and sighed, waving a flustered hand about her head. "Good grief," she huffed, "I thought the pills were a bother, Vincent, but remind me never to knock 'em again, if that's what the alternative looks like."

The purple bat dragon in the real world nodded. "Yep. He always did that. It gives me strength too. I can't describe it but I can feel the power spike through my suit after he eats."
Critias grabbed another piece. "You see, what we didn't tell you was how I became Yusaku's navi."
He began munching on it, the blob making crunching sounds.
"I was once a normal navi model. All I know of my birth is that I woke up in the undernet. I was completely broken and near deletion. I sent out a sos and it just so happens that Yu here caught it. Long story short, he pulled me out and remade me into what I am now."
Yusaku hummed, walking over besides Vincent. Apparently he was being influemced by his navi and seemed in need of some cuddles.
"I didn't know he craved bugged data until he literally went crazy and started eating the entire NSD recycle bin database. He scarred a pokr mr prog to life."
Critias sat down, swallowing. "Navis like me are viewed as monsters and for a good reason. This hunger thing can't really be satiated, it always nags you. It leaves you needy for more. I've...I've tasted a lot of things. Junk data. Bug frags...dead navis too, when I needed to survive in the undernet."
He spread his wings, showing how much more lucent his scales had gotten just now. "With every bite I grow stronger. Every bite gives me more power. That said..."
The wyvern looked over to Phase. "I have no intention of hurting you. Quite the opposite. You're my friend and I'll make sure nothing bad happens to ya. Even though you're scared of me and don't like me much."
For once, the wyvern seemed serious rather then teasy and playful as his usual.

While Phase and Vincent were clearly ready to banter back, they quieted down when it became clear that Critias had a story to tell. And tell it he did; with the exception of a pained groan as the wyvern continued to display his (lack of) table manners, Phase was a silent, rapt audience. The gravity of his story rooted her in place, even when he stretched to full height and flared his wings, and then got really very direct with her. She thought to tell him how sorry he was that he'd suffered for his birth, or something equally fitting of such a grave story.
Instead, she flushed and jammed her pilot's cap down over her head, muttering, "It's not as though I don't like you." Eyes at her feet, she scuffed her leather boots against the ground. "I just..." she hemmed and hawed, gnawing on her bottom lip, finally tipping her head back and admitting, "It's not you I'm scared of, Critias."
For a long moment, Phase held a deep, steadying breath. Exhaling, she drew herself up to look the wyvern in the eye. Her voice was soft but firm when she spoke, "You remind me of...of things that hurt me before, and I know you'd never do that but it's like...like if Yu was bitten by a snake, and every time after that he saw a snake that looked like the one that bit him, he'd get a little nervous, because he remembers what it felt like to get bitten." It was pure stream of consciousness, Phase clearly using Yu as a proxy to talk around her real story, but she kept her head throughout.
"That's what I built Dignity for; whatever happened before we decided to do the Net thing together, now any takers have got all this majesty to get through first, and by then Phase is long gone," Vincent interjected. He looked a little lost when Yusaku stepped towards him, but made no move to step away from his console. While older than his students by a few years, the young man carried himself with a casual sort of energy Vincent had no idea how to replicate. If anything, the closest thing he was familiar to was his cat, and the little beast's tendency to sidle up for affection whenever it suited him.
What's good for the cat, Vincent thought eventually, should be good enough for the bat-wyvern-boy, and thus he placidly let his personal space be invaded. "Shall we press on?" he suggested idly, toying with a few fake dials, "I wanted to test out the Dignity's recall system."

Critias turned away. "I know." He stated, getting up. "But it's the reason why I ain't allowed near you. It's not your fault, Sunshine." The wyvern walked past the small lady dressed in leather keeping his distance. "But it hurts me just as much as it hurts you." He whispered, tail drooping.
Yusaku nodded, looking over Vincent's suit and headgear to make sure everything was still operational. "Yeah, better not let Phase remeber bad stuff too much. It would throw off your Synchronization."
With that, he waved one of his claws in the air to visualize a holomap. "We have more viruses this way, they're a bit more numerous than what we had now. But we should manage."
Critias stretched lightly. "Are you sure you have enough stamina there, Yu? We got shocked earlier, your body usually doesn't like that."
Yusaku chuckled. "Don't worry about me. I am crazy enough to be wearing a suit directly connected to my spine and head. If it didn't fry me earlier, it won't fry me now." A shudder, and the two bats were connected together once again. Yusaku patted Vincent's shoulder then began walking his navi towards the next group of viruses.

Without the benefit of his actual PET to work with, Vincent put his trust in Yusaku's lab AI and called, "Computer, activate Dignity.CMD's pilot recall." Net-side, Phase's emblem pinged and lit up, before a turquoise beam whisked her off skyward. Not a second later, a matching light shot down upon the Dignity's domed head. Her floodlights shone momentarily blue-green as Phase materialised right into her pilot seat. "Why don't you practice driving til we find our next spot of trouble?" Vincent asked.
Seconds later, her engine roared back to life. The steam whistle sounded off twice in reply, *toot-tooooot*, accompanied by an excited little giggle. "That's never gonna get old," Phase exalted, and set the Dignity to lumbering off in Yu and Critias' wake. "Try to keep to the wild space, this thing's too big for the city. Just like Vincent!" she called over the loudspeaker with a cackle.
Vincent made a wry face, but gave no reply; Phase had him there. Before the dynamic duo could move away, he called out, "Hoy, Critias!" Reaching a long arm over, he gave the top of Yusaku's helmet a gentle pat, hoping the Navi wouldn't mind the by-proxy affection. "Don't fret, big guy, don't fret. She'll come 'round before too long," he soothed. Briefly shaking his hand as though mussing Yu's hair, he retrieved his limb and sat back to watch the Dignity's powerful marching.

Yusaku wasn't used to the affection, but accepted it none the less. Critias instead loved it. The large bat wyvern had Yu raising a thumbs up before the grin plastered on his face turned 180 degrees to lead the way towards the next wave of machinery and viruses.

As Phase and Critias moved on, sticking to the open spaces as much as they could, the pair found themselves exploring what were mostly open thoroughfares that were well monitored. After another short while, however, they found their way off the well-marked track again, exploring deeper into the less regulated network areas once again. this time, the duo found themselves moving into what looked like very large, open hangar-type area.
There was a structure to the place, but it was clearly designed for the presence of very, very large objects, of some description; the bay was easily about a sporting field across in both directions, with machinery parts hanging variously on the walls, and much smaller access doors scattering the sides at ground level. the floor was mostly metal, but a very broad transparent circle dominated the centre of the room, looking through to a mass of highly complex technological equipment and machinery underneath. Directly below the glass, a massive turbine circled in a slow, lazy fashion.
A few clicks and sparks from around the chamber seemed to react to the new presence, and as more lights came on, the first things to happen were strong buffets of wind. From the far end of the hanger, two large windboxes clicked on, beginning to blow; one blasted directly towards them, while the other, in the left corner, was blowing directly perpendicular. It created a rapid cycle of wind in the room, and below them, the massive turbine began to spin faster. It seemed like they were actually standing on a platform that wasn't air sealed. Hopefully it was stable enough to support them.
From above, two more viruses seemed to activate at the disturbance; a satellite began to light up, hanging on a metal machine part on the left wall, while a twisty poked its head up from a small protruding platform high on the right. Far back, between the two windboxes, a cannon rose up from the ground, calibrating its turret slowly, just as two access doors slid open on either side of Critias and Phase's Dignity.
From each door, a prog emerged, but both of them looked broken and damaged, with sparks coming off their occasional missing limbs, and damaged eyes. They each raised what they had remaining of arms.
“THIS IS A RESTRICTED AREA. YOU MUST BE— YOU MUST BE— UNDER THREE FEET TALL— TO ENTER!”
“PLEASE LET US ESCORT YOU OUT!”
Ever helpful, the badly damaged progs began to rush in. Behind one of them, a trio of ratty poured out of the door, chittering and squeaking, and chewing on the remains of electric cables.
-=Viruses=-
WindBoxWindBox (Wind & Fan)
All viruses in this family are immobile during combat, with the exception of being able to turn to face any direction it wishes. Later versions of this virus may switch between Wind and Fan effects, which requires one action, during which time all wind or fan effects cease. Bonuses and penalties do not stack if multiples of the same virus family exist on the field. Wind and Fan do not push or pull Objects, only creatures.
Area: SciLab, Yoka, Beach, Sharo, Netfrica, Hades Isle
HP: 100
Attack Damage/Effect: Wind Effect, Northwind
Attack Accuracy: S
Attack Description: Causes a large scale gale of wind to blow across the entire field in the direction the virus is facing. This gale will constantly move all targets this virus considers to be enemies in the direction the wind is blowing, which makes it difficult to land many kinds of attacks on it and allied viruses, such as thrown attacks and close ranged attacks. All those affected by the wind will also have their barriers and auras blown off by a constant Northwind effect.
Element: None
Possible Rewards (Per Virus): Wind, Zenny
Special: Causes short ranged attacks, such as (but not limited to) swords, melee attacks, and flame thrower style weapons, to suffer from a 30% accuracy penalty against targets they are being pushed away from. Both sides of the engagement suffer a 30% accuracy penalty with direct attacks perpendicular to the direction of the wind, and all thrown attacks.
Special: Those allied with this virus may opt to take advantage of the wind to increase movement speed or evasion by going with the wind. They do not suffer any penalties, however. Conversely, anyone may move along with the wind to increase accuracy by 10% for close ranged attacks, assuming the target is in that direction.
Special: Northwind effect to all enemies once per virus action while maintaining wind effect. A: 100Hp [Magnet][Back left, over 1 movement away]

B: 100Hp [Magnet][Back right, over 1 movement away]
CannonGuardCannonGuard (CannonGuard)
CannonGuards are automatically in guard mode unless they are attacking. When guarding, the turret is protected by a shutter that will stop any and all non-breaking attacks from the front. This shutter cannot be destroyed, even by a breaking attack, so long as the virus exists. The shutter does not protect the turret portion of the virus against attacks from the back or sides. The base of the virus is also immune to non-breaking damage.

Special: Immobile. RemoteBit is invulnerable to all attacks and effects. Can use Blinder once.: 80Hp [On Metal][High on the right wall]
SatelliteSatellite (Satellite)
Area: Netopia, Sharo, NAXA
HP: 100
Primary Attack Damage/Effect: Trap(Enemy in Targeting Cursor) + Seeking: Movement (High-Alt) + Dodge + Lock-On + Nullify Invis
Primary Attack Accuracy: C
Primary Attack Description: Generates a targeting cursor that sweeps back and forth across the field, looking for a target. The cursor ignores decoys, objects, illusions, and invisibility. If the cursor intersects with an actual enemy, Lock-On is achieved, and the virus launches itself into the sky at High Altitude.
Secondary Attack Attack Damage/Effect: (3 Null + Seeking + Enhanced Accuracy) x 10 Shots
Secondary Attack Attack Accuracy: A
Secondary Attack Attack Description: When Lock-On is achieved, this virus fires a barrage of 10 highly accurate shots at its chosen target before landing in its original position. Accuracy debuffs on the Satellite while using this attack are reduced in severity by one rank.
Element: Null
Possible Rewards (Per Virus): Lock-On1, Zenny
Special: Immobile outside of its primary attack.
Special: This virus will repeat its primary attack until it finds a target, after which it will be able to use its secondary attack once. When it changes targets, either of its own volition or its current target's death, or uses its Secondary Attack and lands in its original position, it must repeat its primary attack until it finds a new target.
Notes: Triggering invisibility or an illusion, or moving the Satellite forcefully after Lock-On is achieved does not allow a target to escape Lock-On. Lock-On is a shift in the Satellite's state, not a status inflicted on its target, and thus cannot be removed.: 100Hp [On Metal][High on the left wall]
DarkProgDarkProg (DarkProg)
DarkProgs are Mr. Progs cruelly corrupted and warped to become expendable soldiers. They appear mostly as normal Mr. Progs, but their face is much more darkly colored, and have glowing white eyes, as well as missing their left arm. They attack by emitting static around themselves. While they are fairly strong attackers, especially in groups, they have poor endurance, which is only exacerbated by the fact their attacks harm themselves. They very rarely dodge, but will often try to move close to the enemy before attacking.

Inside the cockpit's dome, Phase was surprised to find herself relaxing into her console. As their travels took them into what somewhat resembled an old industrial zone, the Dignity's meandering stride took them to the entrance of a mightily oversized warehouse. Any anxiety over the potential of trespassing was fairly eclipsed by the desire to see what such might have required such a huge floor plan. "C'mon, guys, let's see what we find in here!" Phase chirped, steering through the bay doors and marveling over the height of the ceilings, faintly breathing, "holy smokes, it's massive!"
Several pings from Vincent's PET echoed out of Yusaku's computer bank. As the giant leaned over the console to investigate, the holographic hangar began to boil over with activity. "Well, Phase, I'd say we found something, I would, only it looks more like something found us!" he mused wryly.
Two Mr. Progs were already rushing the pair of Navis. On another day, without the warning labels Dignity helpfully provided for them, Phase would have mourned the state of the poor things, maybe tried to see if there was anything to be done for them. Today, her crisis reaction times were getting a full workout, and so she was already shouting in full Teacher Mode, "Critias, look out! Vincent, Yu, cannons at the ready!"
A beep and a sudden stiffness in her bones told Phase that Vincent had lowered his visor and reassumed the proverbial driver's seat. Distantly, she heard his bellowing as a Cannon loaded into the console. Her left arm steered the Dignity into a low stance, main Cannon hanging slung almost as though Vincent meant to scoop up the deranged Prog with the gigantic barrel. "Make the call, Phase!" the Operator urged.
Even completely at his mercy, he was still making sure she had control. Touched, Phase called down, "Critias, with me! Open fire!" A moment later, her left hand squeezed the trigger, and the low-slung barrel erupted. The glowing round fought the wind across the dwindling distance between her and her target; already Vincent was retracting the Dignity's arm, bringing her back to her full, imposing height.
Now it was Vincent's turn to call out orders. While he puppeted Phase to prime her namesake engine, he made with his other arm to wave his fellow Operator over. "Get behind me, Yu, let Dignity take the heat," he said over the roaring engine, gunning the gearshift and letting the mech's brassy overtures ring long.
It was only once the Dignity's gears had a good spin going that Vincent made for the thermostat. With three quick turns, her reservoir dumped a torrent of rime down her shining chassis. In seconds, Dignity was frozen over. Her creaking was given a mighty echo in the echoing warehouse; inside the cockpit, Phase braced herself as best she could without actually moving, and prepared to ride out the impending chaos.

Critias grinned as his body followed the stretching motions of his operator. "You ready for round two, Yu?"
The man didn't reply, but the navi didn't need words. He could just feel it. Vincent and Phase were squabbling around alot though. Critias do this, Critias do that, Yucome here, Yu do that. At the very least, the slight annoyance of their chattering was overshadowed by their synch levels. They would at least be occupied giving orders. Sure, half of those order were contradictory, but they would slowly converge to a single thing over time.
Flip flip flip jump. Yusaku used his inertia to put some distances between him and the viruses, ending right behind Vincent and his mock console and his navi slithering between Dignity's legs before crawling all the way up Dignity's chassis ending up to Phase's left. In the climb, Critias's body got soaked as the robot released his water shieldy thingy, but aside from getting a shudder out of Yu, the bat duo couldn't really complain. It wasn't the moment for it.
From that position, Yusaku's tail whizzed right above Vincent head as he instructed his navi to release their version of a cannon shot, as requested by Phase, in the form of a sonic wave.
"Up here we can't do much." The purple couple informed their partners in their usual synchronized state. "We need to get in close to do our thing." It did not prevent them though from regenerating their bubble. Critias' prismatic barrier flared back up, engulfing the navi in a rainbow colored bubble for extra protection.
Then, the bats had a nice idea. Almost suicidal, but a great idea none the less. "Yo, Sunshine." Critias called, poking Dignity's head with his long spiked tail. "Throw us at them." He added with a grin. "Right in the middle there."

Awe at the large hangar space was quickly replaced with a call to battle stations as the damaged progs closed in on the pair. Even as dignity's large cannon angled down towards the one nearest its feet, the damaged prog stopped and raised its one remaining arm, shouting in broken parts of phrases that ran together in a discordant crackle
“PLEASE BE— PLEASE BE— —UNDER THREE FEET TALL—!” As it cut off again, a large wave of static electricity burst out of its body, arcing off the metal panels and all around. None of the arcs connected with the Dignity itself, though Critias was close enough that one of the erratic bolts struck him in the shoulder and lanced down to the metal panels below with a painful shock.
A moment later, Dignity's cannon blasted the program apart with an echoing boom, but the second one, on the other side had stopped in front of critias and now attempted to hug him tightly with its damaged limbs.
“RESTRICT— RESTRICTED— PERSONEL SHOULD— AUTHORISE— —CASES OF INJURY!” A second burst of electrical static washed over the nearby area, erupting from the damaged program and damaging it further in the process. This wave sent jolts grounding through both Critias and Phase's Dignity; the Dignity in particular struggled under the arcing bolts, and though Phase was safe in her insulated cockpit, the massive steampunk machine took the shock hard.
Some hugs were good, some were less so. Critias elected to free himself of this particular embrace and swiftly climbed up to the higher reaches of dignity's frame, removing himself from the conductive panels below, while the Dignity prepared the tools it would need for a counter-offence. As they did, the growing wind from the fans continued to blow, driving the giant machine a few small paces back as the circling winds whipped about and made aiming more difficult. The twisty virus peeked down from its perch and made a small gesture, summoning a mechanical bit into place above the intruding machine and causing it to send another bolt of electricity blasting downwards. Just in time, the gout of frosting ice formed a protective shell over dignity's otherwise conductive form and the bolt only managed to chip a large chunk off the ice.
From where he had climbed up, Critias fired a cannon round of his own, knocking out the other damaged program before it could cause any more harm, then protected himself with a slightly smaller defensive barrier. From the other side of the hangar, the satellite scanned the room with a sweeping laser beam, but it didn't catch Critias, obscured as he was by the dignity's bulk, and it didn't appear to register the Dignity itself as a target immediately. Maybe it was too large?
Below, the trio of rats that had emerged earlier dropped the cables they were chewing on and sat up, squeaking in a small chorus of noises, before each one released a small missile, skittering in erratic zig-zags across the ground. One crashed head first into dignity's nearby foot, dispersing the remainder of its frosty defence, while the second one seemed to zip around the base of the mech, diverting at the wrong moment very time and never quite managing to contact. The third missile tried to climb the machine as though making for Critias on his higher perch, but exploded as soon as it made contact with the building-sized mech.
Towards the back, as the pair of navis handled the nearby foes, the cannon turret adjusted its muzzle and launched a crack shot across the hangar with seemingly pinpoint accuracy, sniping Critias cleanly from where he was perched on Dignity's upper arm. His barrier held out, but the impact came close to knocking the wyveryn from his position. The viral assault might have hit the duo harder than either of them had been expecting, and didn't show any immediate signs of letting up.

Feedback was an unfortunate necessity to Dignity's construction. Without being able to feel Dignity move and respond to outside influences from the cockpit, piloting and reacting to danger that was twenty feet of metal plate away became next to impossible. Thus, movement had to be two-way, and so the same gears that translated the butterfly grips into locomotion and two fully-articulated limbs would also push Phase's arm back if the hydraulics were overpowered. Up til this point, Dignity's prodigious frame had never been truly stress-tested.
Now, an idle part somewhere deep in the back of Vincent's mind noted, it certainly had. The rest of him, that particular moment, was rather occupied with yelling bloody murder. The phantom motion of Yu's puppet machine had turned its uncanny physics against him; as Dignity was tossed and thrashed about, Phase was taken on a ride not unlike a derailed roller coaster. The thin faux-leather of her pilot suit was little cushioning as her body whipped itself against the strapping of the seat harness. A rogue lever caught her in the softness under her shoulder joint; any sharper and it might have gone straight through, jacket and all. As it was, she was reduced to keening for want of the ability to abandon the controls and fold herself in half for the pain.
By the power of postmodern technology and general VR overdose, Vincent got dragged along for every excruciating moment of the ride. Phase's sobs reverberated in his skull; for a long, giant-sized moment, the world shrank down to just him and that gut-wrenching misery. The tiny scientist in his head, the note-taking gadfly who'd survived the tumbling thus far unscathed, idly mused, 'I should probably do something about all this nonsense, I should.'
And so he did.
Tipped perilously back on her talon-like feet, Dignity was moments from lifting off the ground entirely and landing on her back, at which point she'd be dead in the water and they'd be all but forced to evacuate. Just as the mech seemed ready to commit to the plummet, Phase reached, stretched against straps and gravity with a strangled yell, and caught the temperature gauge. "Wha-haa-at are you doing?" she gasped out.
Supercooled water blasted from every crevice in Dignity's chassis. Cranking for all he was worth, Vincent shouted back, "Getting us out of this mess, now please forgive me for this!" He squeezed his eyes shut against Phase's whimpering, and slammed her right arm back into the grip. In the time it took Dignity to raise her right leg and plant it home, there was a thick sheet of ice underfoot, spread in a wide, lumpy radius around the battered mech. Another jink forward with one butterfly grip, then the other, and they had enough momentum to slide the mech out from beneath the hovering virus. Phase was pale and panting for breath, but voiced no complaint.
With another twist of Vincent's wrist, Phase's right grip revealed yet another hidden trigger. The colossus gave a mighty lurch as she toggled it, a thick piton slamming into the ice from her right foot. The tortured metal of her legs screamed in protest, but held steady and began a wide pivot on her free leg. Dignity's prow veered ever nearer to centre on the scurrying Rattys. "We've got Dignity in line," Vincent's voice boomed from the console, resonating in the warm brass, "now we'll do this just as we did last time, and line up as many as we can at once. Critias, I'm sorry, but if you want to try your luck with the wind, you'll either need to wait a moment or jump. SonicWave, slot in!"
Burping dirty gouts of black smoke, Dignity's engine revved up no matter the damage it'd been forced to suffer. "Hold on tight!" Vincent called out to Yu and Critias, and lifted his arms high. The mecha rose on its anchored foot, hissing and squealing, high enough that one might have thought the titan were about to try climbing to the Twisty's perch. A gurgle of water down a hosepipe announced its true intent - as Dignity's foot crashed down, water coursed from between her toes into the ice, lacing the shockwave whipped down the hangar with an arctic chill. Vincent's piloting had put Dignity's prow level with the Windbox bearing most directly onto their footholds. A direct hit from Dignity, mighty as the mech's performance had proved, would send a splash of water from beneath fit to punch a hole clean through it, should his (and by proxy, Phase's) aim prove truer than its wind.

Man, it looked like Dignity was having it rough. For the first time ever, both Critias and his partner showed a level of coldness that could rival the mech's ice attacks as they shivered from cold sweat. Yusaku quickly gave Vincent a headpat, using the receptors inside his costume's talons to transfer a Recover Chip straight into the man's PET. He knew stuff like this could happen, but he did say he wouldn't allow anything bad to happen to the old man and his navi. Indeed, he was a man of his word.
On the other side, Critias poked his snout back into Phase's view. "We're sorry you're having it rough, Princess..." he told her snickering and grinning. That grin though didn't seem the usual Critias kind of mischievous/playful and cocky grin. It wasn't quite genuine. It didn't feel right. There was something else veiled by the bat-wyvern's expression.
"...you guys stand back. We'll deal with these viruses." Yusaku turned his navi sideways, taking note of the wind direction. It was like playing a videogame. Gotta overcompensate the horizontal axis when you need to jump. There was something weird happening though. Since now, Yusaku and Critias had kept themselves in check thanks to the man's emotions. There was this feeling in Yusaku's chest though, that he couldn't quite explain. It was some kind of weird warmth. He couldn't explain why he could sense that. He and Critias were always so in synch even their emotional state had always been the same. Right now, Yusaku was calm and analytical as ever, so Critias was supposed to feel the same...
Critias' scales hardened while his claws grew sharper. The wyvern took a small runningin start and jumped. Spreading their wings wide, the bat duo used them as sails to ride the wind towards their intended target. If their swing didn't miss, the seven feet tall bat would use his RageClaw chip to punch some nice holes into the satellite and grab hold of the thing as they eventually slammed down on the ground, once again trying to end up right in the middle of the pack of rats.
With the satellite thing in their grip or not, Critias stomped hard on the ground, opened his wings wide to full wingspan (while Yusaku corrected the navi's positition to be perpendicular to the wind's direction, so that they wouldn't be flown away) and roared at the top of his lungs. With the battle cry so loud as to leave ears ringing, thy wyvern duo knew it would redirect attentions towards them and that was just what they wanted.
"OI!" The wyvern roared again. "WE ARE YOUR OPPONENT. EYES FRONT YOU MAGGOTS." They said, towering above the small rat pack. One could tell they were pissed, not like the Billy kind of pissed, but actual feral wrath.
There there was that warmth again. In a moment, it overpowered Yusaku's connection with his navi, the young man actually having to kneel down from the sudden, never before seen outburst from his bat navi.
It felt like rage. You know, the kind of rage you get when someone hurts someone you care alot about. And boi having that fed straight into your spinal chord and brain hurt. It hurt alot.
"THAT. IS. MY. PHASE. IF YOU DARE ATTACK HER AGAIN I WILL EVISCERATE YOU AND STRANGLE YOU ALL WITH YOUR INSIDES!" Now that was all Critias, as Vin could see Yu getting surprised for the first time in a good while...as well as their synch levels plummet even lower than the science couple's during their squabbling. If the Satellite had been so unfortunate to remain impaled into Critias' claws, the thing would get slammed into the ground so incredibly hard.
"DON'T YOU DARE....DON'T YOU DARE ATTACK HER AGAAAAAAAAAAAAIN!"
*Massive, deafening, rage induced roar.*

As Phase and Vincent struggled to re-calibrate themselves and work together, and Yu and Critias violently desynchronised, the buffeting on the circling winds became even more chill, whipping up flecks of frost and ice as the fans continued to blow. Critias felt his protective barrier whipped away by the gale, though it was debatable whether the enraged navi noticed it.
His operator sent a chip to restore some of dignity's integrity, while Vincent set up an ice flooring across the bay, to help the massive machine move more easily about. From across the bay, the cannon took another sniper-grade shot at the smaller navi perched on the mech's arms, slamming into Critias a second time while the navi had no defences to protect him, but a moment later the building-sized construction spun across the ice to one side, avoiding a bolt of lightning that would have been disastrous for it if it had connected. The twisty made a frustrated sound and began trying to reposition its remote bit again.
While Dignity repositioned, Critias launched himself from the mech's arm, at where the satellite rested on a higher perch. Though his jump carried him the distance, the buffeting winds made it hard to connect properly, and the wyvern found himself scrabbling with the mechanical virus briefly, then falling. They both hit the hangar floor with a pronounced crash, Critias still clawing firmly onto the virus, though he hadn't managed to really damage it.
It was at that moment that the circling ratton explosive from earlier zipped across the hangar bay, zeroing in on the recently crash-landed navi and exploding against his back with a painful burst of force. As it struck him, the trio of rats began preparing new missiles to fire; one launched a fresh explosive to zip across the ground in a series of erratic scuttles – it reached Critias just as the wyvern hardened his scales again, protecting him from the explosion's damage, though only just.
As he dealt with this aggression, something more unexpected happened. The satellite beeped, the a reticule on its front, mostly obscured by Critas' chest, began to sweep with a scanning laser. Of course, with the wyvern grappling the virus like he was, the sweeping beam picked Critias up right away, and shut the beam off again, giving a series of hisses and clicks as its mode changed. A plume of steam began to roll out from the satellite, before, still bearing Critias with it, the virus shot skyward, arcing up to the roof of the hangar at alarming speed.
One positive effect of this unexpected wyvern-launch was that it left Dignity's line of attack clear of allies, and as Phase and Vincent pushed the controls and stomped down, one of the other ratty viruses launched a missile in their direction. It zipped under the mech's raised foot, missing, but began to circle around in the space behind them. A moment later they stomped down, and the shock-wave roared along the left side of the hangar, catching up two of the rat viruses and slamming into the windbox at the back with enough force to break it apart.

A: DELETED

Area: SciLab, Netopia, NAXA
HP: 60
Primary Attack Damage/Effect: 20 Elec + Nova 2
Primary Attack Accuracy: C
Primary Attack Description: Emits some of its life energy as a static field.
Secondary Attack Damage/Effect: Damage x 2, Self-Sacrifice x 2
Secondary Attack Accuracy: S
Secondary Attack Description: Charges up energy within itself. On its next turn, all of this virus's attacks deal +100% Source Damage, and deal twice as much damage to itself. This effect does not stack with itself.
Element: Elec
Possible Rewards (Per Virus): RingZap1 (Rare), Zenny
Special: ElecBody: This virus takes no damage from Elec elemental attacks.
Special: Self-Sacrifice: Every time this virus uses its Primary Attack, it loses 5 HP.

A: DELETED

Under his visor, sweat beaded the long slope of Vincent's brow. Counting down the seconds Dignity's engine needed to recharge was an exquisite torture. The laboratory-grade precision on its own wasn't stressful, but keeping time in his head while maintaining battlefield awareness made for the sort of mental gymnastics he hadn't practiced since his college days. "Didn't account for this in the alpha build..." he muttered, rolling his shoulders and squeezing the cogwheel's grip. No complaint came from Phase - the arm Net-side was functional, then, jolly good.
Steam billowed and hissed; clamping her jaw shut around her protesting shoulder joint, Phase's brows nonetheless furrowed. Quizzical, she ventured, "That didn't come from us...right?" She didn't have to look far to find the culprit, jaw dropping a little despite herself as she witnessed the airborne spectacle. Then the memory of harsh, popping gunfire filled her ears, and she snapped to attention. "Crit needs our help, quick!"
The Phase Engine chimed - there was no time to think, so Vincent simply reacted. Throwing Phase's arm into cranking, he levelled Dignity's cannon at Critias, and yelled to Yu, "My apologies, this won't be pleasant, it won't!" The stream that followed his warning started as a pencil-thin tracker; upon finding Critias, a long tether of ice stretched the distance to connect the wyvern to Dignity's systems. From that initial contact point, ice spread forth, following the organic lines of his body into an all-encompassing crystalline sheet, leaving space for his eyes and mouth. "You should be safe like that, just like that," Vincent peered up at his machine's handiwork, hollering despite himself, "just keep hitting it 'til it drops!"
The donated defence had left Dignity open. Once she was satisfied Critias was safe, Phase had eyes only for the RemoteBit tracking unerring towards them, lightning rod hanging like the eponymous sword over the throne. Swallowing down the pain, she grunted through gritted teeth, "c'mon, Vincent, keep moving," Her ribs throbbed with a distinct wet heat that promised spectacular bruises later. There was nothing for it: she breathed deep against the ache, and braced herself for more.
With a deep sigh, Vincent took up the butterfly grips. Leery of Phase's shoulder, he moved gingerly through another series of pushing one arm out, then the other. Phase's breath hitched once, twice - and Dignity's size-1500 foot pushed off like a skater, ice screeching underfoot. Another tap of the trigger retracted her talon, freeing the mech to spin on her own axis as the last of her momentum petered off. The cannon would have no trouble lining up a shot if it chose to do so, so it wasn't worth worrying about. Eyes tracking the RemoteBit as he kept up his high-stakes game of keepaway, Vincent murmured, "Need to do something about that pest, I do. What was it...ah, of course!" His AquaNeedle: slot in!"
Dignity's reservoir gurgled anew. The Phase Engine snapped up the chip data and merrily set about converting it into fuel. Three sharp clicks echoed from the Titan's shoulder mortar as it swivelled in its bulbous turret. The spiral-finned arrows it shot gleamed strangely in the cold light of SciLabs, arcing high above the wind and dropping down overtop the Twisty's perch. "Beauty!" Vincent crowed triumphantly, "Didn't even code that graphic, I didn't! She's learning, make no mistake."
"Hang on, hang on," Chewing her lip, Phase took in the strings of numbers flashing across the screenbanks. A quick bit of math later, she was shouting, "That's not gonna be enough! We're outta time, we're gonna crash, we're gonna-!" only to stop, eyes wide with inspiration. Just in her peripheral, Critias was still wrestling with the airborne virus, his giant claw glinting with added jaggedy edges. If he dropped under the Satellite and flipped to create centrifugal force, just maybe... All of a sudden, from out the loudspeaker came Phase's voice, crackly and squawking in her panic. "THE TWISTY!" she cried out, "THROW IT AT THE TWISTY!"

"Wait what are you-GAH!"
Critias jerked visibly and shuddered as the Ice was shot square in his back. The ice immediately started spreading, foring a groan of discomfort from Yu and a soft moan from the bat wyvern. The glitch eater seemed to completely abbandon himself to the new feeling as the ice wrapped around his claws and encaed his chest in a tight yet surdy armor. The Ice snveloped Crit in full, leaving only a spot open for his eyes. Critias observed how each one of his own scales froze, the ice bonding wih his body on a microscopic level. As it stood now, the purple of his scales had been turned to a pure white. Harder belly scales seemed to keep the darker bluish hue. His entire form seemed to have positively reacted to the change, as he was now more buff looking than before. Oh yeah he was going to be super fine with hat new body.
Yusaku was,'t fine though. While critias didn't mind the harsh cold of his new body, Yusaku was sufferijg alot. Turns out having a suit that connects you to your navi through your spine and brain is not always a good idea. Out of pure insincet, the young man rushed to the first thing he could grab some heat from. Vincent had his personal space violated once again as Yu wiggled in his lap and snuggled close.
"I just...need to get used to it...but please...just keep me warm for a lil bit." He said, trembling. It was...kind of an intimate yet weirdly embarassing situation but Yu knew Vin would understand. He had told you many time his Feedback suit didn't filter anything at all so right now he was feeling the full force of Critias' powerup. He just needed some help to convince himself that he was fine.
Critias sighed happily, jabbing wih his now ice sharpened claws at the satellite he was clinging on. After trying to impale the thing multiple times, the bat's long ears picked up Phase's shout. He hurled around and tried to bring down the satellite onto the Twisty as his partner had instructed.

Special: Throw: The wielder must first grab the target to be thrown, then the target is thrown in the direction/area indicated. A second check is made if against another object/enemy. Throw deals damage to both thrown object/enemy and the second object/enemy. Damage occurs at point of collision with the ground/wall/ceiling/etc. or an object/enemy, not during initial grab attempt. Objects deal their max HP in damage (instead of the chip's damage) if they hit an object/enemy, then break. If they miss, the object just takes the chip's damage. This chip has a variety of uses.
