Short Exploration

"Two ZapRings."

From his widened posture, Eternalis didn't move. His green eyes were still flashing their emerald shine as yet more crosshairs formed, circling around the remaining enemies and trying to pick up a lock. The viruses weren't much to look at now, a vulnerable Marina, floating away on an inhospitable sea of red, and a shrouded Misty floating above what remained of the blue water. The water looked rather strange, as if someone dumped red dye into the pool and boiled it for some reason.

As the targeting system worked away, Eternalis put a hand to the wounds that were seething away from the Marina's anchor attack, causing them to disappear in a dim flash. Soon, the crosshairs beeped, the four lines closing in and the circles contracted. Eternalis lifted his right hand, which was currently pulsing with yellow electrical charges. Focusing on the targets, he released two bolts of electricity straight towards the viruses, each creating a thunderous boom as it flew.

Whatever damage the viruses had managed to inflict on Eternalis was soon wiped away as the Navi healed himself. Meanwhile, he also took time to aim at both remaining viruses: the Marina over the lava and the Misty over the water. It had somehow worked out so that the stronger water virus was positioned over the sea panels. Eternalis wasn't complaining, however. With both targets locked on, Eternalis stopped healing himself and projected two crackling rings of electricity at the viruses. He noticed that the Marina had launched a bubble towards him, but with the virus' demise simply stepping out of the way was a simple affair.

Oh, and the Misty got painfully shocked. Very painfully.

Eternalis breathed heavy, as if a weight had been taken off his chest. Something was quite a bit strange, but he didn't do anything to stop it. If anything, he simply crashed down on the edge of the coals. Picking himself up, he sat with his knees up, and tapped his head-output on the side. A videoscreen appeared in front of him, tuning itself a bit before showing Aurora's face. Around her was the thick mist of the makeshift hot spring.

"Aurora, you there?"

"I'm coming!" she replied.

Sure enough, he saw Aurora's face not on the screen, but in front of him, kneeling before him. She was smiling, but when she saw Eternalis looking quite more flushed than was usual, it turned to alarm. "Are you okay, Elly? You don't look so good..." she inquired, a tone of concern in her voice.

"I-I'm okay, Aurora. Just a little tired, is all. This body's meant to last!" he laughed, but his actions betrayed his words. He was obviously quite bunked for some reason or another, still breathing heavily. Aurora bent over to touch his chest, when the emblem on hers began to flash intermittently, giving a beep every few moments. Then, her gloves glowed for a bit, before turning solid black. The black gloves had yellow lines over it, pulsing every few seconds with bursts of light.

Suddenly, he felt somewhat better, indeed a whole lot better. His eyes were clouded by the light of the touch, and he thought he fell asleep or something similar. Soon, when he came to and could see, he found that somehow, he had ended up back at the entrance telepad, where the Swordy had ambushed him (without success). He picked himself up, and only then did he notice the new armaments on his hands. The same gloves he'd saw Aurora wear in a brief moment were now on him. Strangely, however, Aurora looked to be nowhere in sight, which in itself was strange as well. His vision felt like it was doubling, like there was something else that used his eyes.

"Aurora? Where are you?" he called.

"Elly?"

Then, it struck him. His hands. He brought them up to his head, and sure enough, the voice came from the gauntlets. The lines were pulsing in tune with Aurora's voice. Strange, he thought.

"Aurora? Why are you in my hands again? Did you receive too much damage?"

"I-I don't know! I was about see if you were okay when you looked tired, and then there was this light! Then, when I came to, I felt really strange! I can see through your eyes, Elly! It feels really weird! And I can bind with your internal systems!"

"What?!" he cried.

"No, really! Watch this!"

As soon as Aurora said so, Eternalis' eyes were suddenly covered in a translucent orange visor, that seemed to hover in place without any fixations. The visor seemed to blink out for a second, before a heads-up display appeared on it, and masses of information sped before his eyes. Health, system integrity, process load, everything was at his vision. He muttered a "Wow," before the visor disappeared, leaving his sight unobstructed. He sighed. Well, I guess this is some kind of new feature or something. That sneak, Reverus. I wonder what else he put into Aurora, Eternalis thought.

To Aurora, he said, "Well, Aurora. Seems like this is some kind of new power you've got. How about we go and test it out?"

"Okay!" the SP answered enthusiastically, and the Navi walked off, without further delay.

Eternalis found some Dharma viruses. They were very spread apart so there was no sense trying to catch them all in a single attack, but at least they weren't surrounding him or anything.

[Battle 1 - Begin!]
Eternalis hadn't gone very far into the Sharo networks, when he found some viruses, a few ways away from the Swordy-ambush spot. He balled his hands into fists and instinctively assumed the battle position. Somehow, he felt a lot more comforted, somewhat stronger with the gauntlets in his hands. He chuckled at the thought, surveying the battlegrounds. Three Dharma, which he had faced before in Sharo. This time, however, they couldn't slide away from him on a court of ice. The orange HUD appeared on his eyes once again, repeating the information he had gleaned from them in the previous battle, then disappearing.

Harke came up quickly with a battle strategy, relaying it to his Navi. "WaterLine, DashAttack, WideShot. Target 2 twice, then use WideShot to pick off any leftovers. Go!" Then, just like that, the chips were in, one by one, as swift as lightning.

Nodding to himself, the aquatic warrior sped away straight into the battlefield, breaking off into a slow stride before suddenly assuming an unnatural speed. Eternalis rocketed along on the speed of his vapor form, being no more than a fleeting afterimage on the field. And then, in the blink of an eye, he was there again, much closer to the enemy than before. His yellow eyes gleamed with the thrill of battle, as the Dharma virus stood before him.

Lifting his hand, the aquatic warrior slammed down onto the ground with incredible force, forcing his will down into the ground of the Yoka network. Soon, a rumble at his feet foreshadowed the consequences, as towers of high-pressure spring water burst from the ground with enough force to knock off a powerful foe. Then, the springs died away, and the cracks in the ground healed over, leaving the panels seamless to behold.

Then, Eternalis' image seemed to fade into his vapor form again, but this time, he was only shrouded in them. The mists that covered his body were stained a mild blue, as his armor began to glow. Light burst forth from openings in the armor, forming the definite shape of a Fishy's body through his body. Thruster-equipped boots started to lift the aquatic warrior slowly off the ground, until he pointed a finger at another Dharma some ways off. The Fishy looked to understand as it emitted a low hum, then carried him in a high-speed rush, poised to cleave anything in its wake clear in half.

Shortly after, the Fishy's energy store was exhausted, and it disappeared the way it came in a dim burst of light. The WideShot data had been already fed into his arm-outputs, and the gauntlets he wore glowed at the palm with a cool blue, ready to serve its purpose: eliminate any survivors of the brutal attack he sent. He doubted it, but there was no harm in a little bit of caution.

Staying not too long, Eternalis transferred the reward data packet to the PET without much of a word, and trudged on, his feet light in the victories of battles before him. He lightly conversed with Aurora for a bit through their inner systems, but it wasn't long before they came across more enemies.

Eternalis and his junctioned SP continued through the area until they reached a wide and shallow "field" of water. It was preceded by a sandy beach, which seemed very out of place. Off in the water, Eternalis was able to spot a group of viruses approaching fast and prepared for battle. It wouldn't take them long to close in. Additionally, it was hard to tell from his position, but those viruses looked pretty fishy.

Battle 2 Start!
"Look, Elly! It's a beach!"

Indeed, it was a sandy beach, that looked a bit out of place. The water stretched out as far as Eternalis could see, even when Aurora's visor gave him a few magnifications. If it was a sea, it definitely didn't belong here, but if it was a lake, it was one heck of a pool. Feeling the sand in his boots, he shook his legs to clear them of the grime that stuck. This seems like a nice place to relax, he thought as he walked around on the sand to find a spot to sit down for a bit.

Unfortunately, the rest would have to wait, as Aurora's visor beeped warning signs, locking onto a nearby hostile virus threat. The heads-up display read, in a small box, "Alert: Viral Signatures Detected. General Position: 20.17m/60.12°. Preparing to Engage, Battle Routine." Eternalis stood silently, a bit dazed at the information torrent flowing through his eyes, before he steeled himself.

"Windracket, Wideshot, Skully."

Eternalis' stance widened as the first chip came in, changing his right hand. Slots emerged on the arm-output, from which a multitude of white flaps began to unfurl, covering Eternalis' hand in layers of the white fabric. The formation was that of a strange fan-like object. The arm began to emit a whir as it began gathering the air around the Navi, compressing it into the output, which strained under the force. Meanwhile, Eternalis' left arm was also at work, pressurizing not air, but the water of which he was made of.

Then, just as the pressure reached its limit, the whirring ended quite suddenly. Eternalis stood erect, hands at sides, and began to melt into the sand itself. This didn't take very long, and soon the Navi fell through the dense sand. Moments later, the water directly behind the viruses silently formed a thick pillar, which soon reshaped itself into a rough outline of the aquatic warrior. Eternalis' form then solidified suddenly, and he crossed his arms across his chest, eyes straight focused straight ahead.

The arms were uncrossed, sending two arcs of blue and grey, point blank, headed for the viruses. Eternalis took a step back, and summoned the Skully bone in his right hand. Holding it loosely at ready, Eternalis kept a close eye on any enemies that might have escaped his wrath. In the meantime, his recovery processes were started up quite smoothly, ready to render any wounds inflicted on the aquatic warrior completely irrelevant.

Eternalis took the approaching viruses in stride, loading up a series of battlechips to combat them. That wasn't enough for him, however. Sinking into the sandy beach as water, the Navi disappeared and reconstituted behind the viruses. Before they could even realize where Eternalis had gone, he attacked them with waves of wind and water. The Piranha practically warped to the opposite of side of the group to evade the wind and launched an arrow at the aquatic Navi in retaliation just as the Wideshot cut through it. The arrow buried itself in Eternalis' shoulder.

The Starfish had also managed to avoid harm from the first two battlechips. It prepared to attack with its bubbles just as Eternalis grabbed the arrow in his shoulder, yanked it out and forcefully chucked a large bone at the last virus. It spun around the bubbles and hit the virus dead center. Eternalis' healing programs took care of the arrow damage.

OTKO.

Eternalis stooped over to pick up the rewards, when he noticed some rather odd-looking fragments off to the side. He wondered what they were, when they simply disappeared off into nothingness. He shrugged it off, figuring that they were of no consequence. He was about to march forth, when his operator chimed in through a video feed.

"Et, Aurora, I'm jacking you guys out. We're getting some upgrades," Harke said, and before he could protest, a burst of light carried him away from the Yoka network.
