Maybe it was what the giant Lark said. Maybe it was the rumbling the remarks caused. Maybe it was the fact he liked the boulder's decor. But whatever the cause, SplashMan suddenly became a bit more relaxed. After all, a Lark that big could probably just spit out a WideShot right now and turn him into junk data, and yet it was talking to him.
"My name's SplashMan! One day, I wanna be the greatest Aqua-element Navi the cyber world's ever seen! Though since I've heard Aqua's kinda a rare element for Navis nowadays, I guess that's not that hard anymore..."
Suddenly, a window popped up next to him, featuring a certain young woman. "Hello, Lark! My name's Sabrina Jetto, and I'm SplashMan's operator! Nice to meet you!"
"Yep! And I wouldn't trade her for any other operator in the world! No one's better than her!"
Sabrina facepalmed. "You realize that I'm maybe, MAYBE the 3rd best operator in my own family, right? I mean, Dad and Brandon are way ahead of me, and if Mom's been taking more lessons from Dad, I might be last..."
"Give yourself more credit! I think you do a great job! I mean, I haven't even been that close to being deleted yet!"
"Well, whatever...but thanks for trying to make me look good. Guess I kinda ruined it..."
"Don't worry about it!" SplashMan turned back to the Lark, and suddenly recalled what it had said. "Er...hope you don't mind me asking, but what do you mean when you say I can 'help you all'?"
Oh, blubbity blub blub...

A deep, rumbling noise sounded off; the Lark appeared to be chuckling at the short conversation Sabrina and her Navi had just had. "I am pleased to have met you, Sabrina, Splashman," the Lark said, an aura of sincerity woven into his words. "Being a virus, I have no name, but the little ones outside call me their father," it continued, sending off another, lighter wave of chuckles.
Then Splashman asked his final question, and the Lark appeared to take a deep breath as if he was wondering what to say next. He then exhaled slowly, letting his words run with it. "Those that live in this village are outcasts, thrown aside by our more aggressive equals. All of us here do not wish to fight, but I am the reason we are being hunted."
"Will you listen to me, Splashman? Listen to a virus' tale?" the Lark asks. No, it is more than asking; he's almost begging him to stay.

"..." He wasn't hesitating to ask, he was just surprised that all the viruses here were being hunted, and because of the giant Lark in front of him, no less. "...YOU'RE the reason everyone here's in trouble?! ...Okay, let's hear the story! We need to do what we can to help! Right, Sabrina?"
The young woman nodded. "Mm. We didn't come all this way just to say no!"
SplashMan assumed a cross-legged sitting position in mid-water, and focused on the Lark with a curious look in his eyes. "Whenever you're ready!"

"Very well," the Lark boomed. "As you have likely already guessed, I am not of the same variety of Lark-breed viruses you see, but I used to be. A backwater group of humans captured me and a few others of my kin, and experimented on our coding in an attempt to make us peaceful. They tried to make our virtual bodies incapable of combat, while at the same time keeping our naturally-spreading viral programs. In essence, they were trying to reverse the destructive nature in all viruses," he explained.
"They for the most part succeeded. Myself and four other Larks were released here in the Yoka Net Sea, and we were peaceful. The viruses that were here prior to us were reversed by our programs, and became the village inhabitants you see outside now. But the humans forgot one thing in their programming: viruses were created with one purpose in their AI, and that is to destroy. True, they could bury the intention, but never destroy it outright. My fellow cousins, in the times of peace before the village was built, went stir crazy, and in their outrage reactivated the base lines of code that we all share. They became violent, irrational, and engineered their own bodies so they could fight; they became cruel hunters a step or two above the common viruses that you see in the Net," the Lark went on. His eyelids drooped as he sighed, then he brought his head back up and continued.
"We built our shelters to hide from the Larks and escape their pursuit, but it is only a temporary solution. Even now, I can sense my kin hunting down our scents, bearing down on us with destruction on their minds. We would fight back, but none here can fight; our combat programs have long since worn away and disappeared. But you can help us. You are a Navi, strong and capable. You can save our village from the regenades." Having finally finished, the heavy Lark looked Splashman dead in the eye. "Will you help us, Splashman? Will you eliminate the rogues for us, our village? We only want to live in peace, and will not properly be able to until they are gone. Will you help us?"
The village rests in your hands(?), Splashman.

".........Wah!!!" Even though he was underwater, it was painfully obvious that SplashMan was bawling his head off. "We gotta do something, Sabrina!"
The aforementioned human had a rather stern look on her face, in stark contrast to her Navi. "Yep. We're not going to sit here and let good viruses just get clobbered like that!"
The Aqua Navi took a few moments to calm down, then placed his hands on his hip with an angry expression in his eyes. "Leave it to me, Mr. Father Lark! Where are they?! I'll crush 'em!"
"You guys really seem like good peop-uh, viruses. Just tell us where they are, and we'll do everything we can to make sure you can live in peace!"

[i]"Your assistance will be remembered, Splashman. I am grateful," the Lark boomed. "As for the rogues' locations, we needn't go to them. They would not take kindly to being tracked, and they will come to us anyway," he added, answering Splashman's question.
As if on cue, a Starfish suddenly wheeled into the room at a startling pace, spouting a line of bubbles. Though it wasn't as coherent as the Father's speech, Splashman could vaguely pick up on what it was saying, "They're here."
The Father nodded in grim acceptance, and dismissed the Starfish. "It appears the time for you to fight is already upon us. Fight for us and the peace, Splashman," he said, waving a massive fin at the crack in the boulder.

...Ack, they were here already? Sure, he was pumped a minute ago, but that was before the concept of severe pain entered his mind. "R-Right!" SplashMan descended the short distance to the floor, turned, and started walking his way towards the crack.
Of course, Sabrina quickly noticed the lack of logic in the scene. "Hold up...since when could you walk normally in water?"
"Oh, this? All Aqua Navis can do this! We aren't affected by water like other Navis, so we can walk through it like it wasn't there!"
"...And why haven't you done this already?"
"Because swimming is more fun!" The Navi by now was just outside the crack, and took the equivalent of a deep breath. "...Could you send me that other MiniEnergy thing? I don't like the idea of fighting modified viruses when I'm not at max HP..."
"Not a problem!" Sabrina placed an odd looking chip into her PET, which healed her Navi back to perfect shape. "All right, that's that. Now go get 'em!"
Now feeling much better physically, SplashMan moved a few more steps, then stopped. "...Okay! This is for the viruses that can't protect themselves! Yaaaah!!!" He would've run at this point, but instead looked around. "Where are they?! They won't hurt anyone here while I'm around!"

Splashman walks outside, and finds something to be immediately creepy. It wasn't that there were virus corpses everywhere, it was that the place was completely empty. The branching currents that served as roads were silent, the seabed deserted, yet Splashman could feel eyes all over him. They didn't convey a bad message, however, but hope. Hope that he would be able to rid them of their hunters.
The hunters, incidentially, appeared to be little more than hazy specks on the horizon, but were gaining ground at a downright alarming rate and becoming more and more visible by the second.
Suddenly, a loud, violent rumbling shook the ground, and a massive current of water swept through the seabed, completely obliterating a rock spire. The rogue Larks were here, and it was immediately clear that they were nothing like the kindly Father Lark. Their bodies were, if possible, even larger than the Father's, but far sleeker and more muscular. Their fins and tail had been sharpened to cruel edges, their mouths were downturned at the edges with sharklike teeth inside, and their eyes did not show intelligence, or even the traditional Lark goofiness, but pure killing intent.
One Lark spotted the light shimmering through the crack in the boulder, and made another bellowing rumble, sending the other three into a frenzy. Knowing how thin the boulder really was, it wasn't going to last unless Splashman got the Larks' attention somehow.

"...Ack!" Generally, SplashMan did not take well to powerful Lark viruses. But giant evil-looking powerful Lark viruses? Oi. "...Why did I agree to do this again?"
"Because the viruses here can't defend themselves, that's why! Besides, they're still viruses. So we should be able to beat 'em, no problem! Come on!"
"O-Okay..." The Navi took a few steps forward, then stopped. "Uh...how are we gonna get their attention before they destroy that nice giant Lark?"
"Well, since they don't know you exist, now's the time we can sneak in for something close-up! Start heading for them!"
"...Uh, what?"
Sabrina flipped open her folder, grabbed a single chip, and started tossing it lightly with her free hand. "Just do it! You'll see!"
"...I think I know what's coming..." Surprisingly, he didn't pause at all; he simply started running headlong at the viruses, with one arm extended.
She waited a few moments, for SplashMan to get in just the right position. "And...now!" The young woman grabbed the chip, which was in midair at the moment, and quickly slammed it into her PET. "Battlechip, Sword! Slot in!"
A short sword formed on the Navi's arm, who soon reached his destination. Not that he especially wanted to be at that exact spot. "Er...take th-this!" Stab, stab, stab! He wasn't exactly poking the giant virus with his sword; he was actually pulling off hard stabs. After all, a painful deletion of one of them would definitely get the others' attention. ...Wait a minute...that wouldn't be very good attention...
Fortunately, Sabrina had already grabbed another chip for this moment. "Battlechip, Guard2! Slot in!"
A red shield with a blue + appeared over SplashMan, who was in a near-fetal position over the thought of eating giant WideShot. "...I want my mommy!"

Splashman sneaks up on one of the frenzied Larks and attempts a not-so-stealth kill, and nearly completes it. He stabs one twice, but as he pulls back for the final blow, the Lark starts thrashing even more than usual now that he notices the pain. The shaking throws Splashman off, and a sharp-edged fin grazes his side.
He then pulls up a Guard just in time for the same Lark to bellow at him, and release a massive underwater tidal wave from his mouth. Thankfully the Guard prevents it from connecting, but the force of the blow was strong enough to send Splashman flying backwards, the Guard utterly vaporized. The reflected attack, as it hadn't been reflected in a linear path, slams into a different Lark instead.
Splashman notices that the thing that had broken his unplanned trip backwards was none other than the boulder that housed the Father. He hadn't damaged it, but those Larks seemed keen on doing the same job for him...

Even though he hadn't taken much actual damage, the razor fin and slam into the boulder left SplashMan smarting all over. And yet, he didn't immediately make an obvious remark about it. Instead, he ran as fast as his legs could take him to separate himself from that boulder. But that alone wasn't going to get those Rogue viruses distracted...
"Okay, let's go ahead and take that one out for good!" Sabrina placed a pair of green cannon chips into her PET. "Battlechip, MarkCannon! Double slot in!"
The cannon formed on the Navi's arm, but he did nothing immediately. "But won't that just make them mad? And I think that one would be deleted with just one shot..."
"Exactly! If you get rid of one, the others are gonna get a sense of self-preservation, and focus on you. And that second cannon shot is for another one!"
"Uh...right!" Despite knowing full well that he didn't really need MarkCannon in order to hit his enemies this time, SplashMan positioned it forward, so that the crosshairs it emitted would appear and begin its march towards the opposition. Of course, due to the massiveness of said opposition, it didn't take long for it to pick something up, and auto-blast it. Nor did it take long afterwards to lock onto something else, and fire a single high accuracy shot in that direction. "You're sending me a Guard or something right now, right? Sabrina?"
"Huh?" The young woman had, ironically, been too busy searching for her remaining chip of a red Mettaur. "Sorry, didn't hear you!" She inserted it into the appropriate slot. "Here, use this so you don't get clobbered! Battlechip, Guard2! Slot in! ...So, what were you saying?"

Splashman books it across the seabed, just in time to avoid yet another deadly stream of water shot at him by the first rogue Lark he'd managed to stab. Splashman promptly counterattacks, plastering a crosshair onto it before bulls-eyeing the massive fish. The Lark roars in agony before it sinks downwards to the seabed, completely limp.
Splashman then MarkCannons another Lark, triggering a rumbling bellow and another Wideshot. Once again, it's quickly Guarded, but the blow is still heavy enough to both send the Guard flying out of Splashman's hands as it disintegrates, and send Splashman himself skittering across the sandy floor. The reflected Wideshot proves once more to be unreliable, and ends up blowing a rather large crater in the seabed. The ground inside it looks rather unstable...

All in all, SplashMan took the crater in stride; he already knew how powerful those enemy WideShots were, and he had no plans to get any closer to those giant Lark. Add to that the fact he had no chips that traveled along the ground, and he actually could care less about it.
His operator, on the other hand, was less happy about it. "Great, now we can't AquaSword them without risking it crossing those panels! Just perfect!"
"Uh...nope! Not using AquaSword! Not after what happened earlier!"
"...Okay, okay! Don't worry, I wasn't going to do it just yet, anyway! Let's take out the one that's about to drop!" A chip featuring a blue cannon entirely unlike the green ones from before was placed into the PET. "Battlechip, Hi-Cannon! Slot in!"
Needless to say, the Aqua Navi's arm became an un-Aqua blue cannon, which moved back and forth among the RogueLarkEX in order to find the one that had already been hit hard. Eventually, it was found, and a single, decent powered blast was fired from the cannon towards the mega Aqua virus. "That should do it! Two down! But, how are we gonna take down the next one?"
"Oh, with something we all know too well!" Two chips with pictures of a Lark on them were already in the palm of Sabrina's hand; she had been waiting a while for the right time to use them. "Give 'em a taste of their own medicine! Battlechip, WideShot! Double slot in!"
A gun resembling a Lark's mouth took its place on SplashMan's shooting arm, and was pointed ahead...but not at anything in particular just yet. "So...I'm all for WideShot, but they're kinda big, so it'll be hard to hit both of them, even with this..."
"...Who said you were going to use it on both of them? I know it's what we usually do, but this time I think it's better to just focus on one at a time. Sound good?"
"Sure!" After a moment of decision making, the wide-mouthed water gun was focused on one of the remaining giant Larks, and a pair of water arcs sailed through the deep towards it. Sure, the concept of firing water through water to hit a water being didn't make a ton of sense, but no one that was rational really cared at the moment.
"And of course, for their counterattack!" Since she was out of the upgraded version, the young woman had to settle for a yellow Mettaur chip to send to her Navi. "Battlechip, Guard! Slot in!"
Despite the different colors of the shield, SplashMan was just as intent on blocking with it as before. Getting hit by those super WideShot knocked him for a loop even with the Guard up; getting hit by one without it was NOT something he wanted to experience...

A second Lark goes down with a final roar, crashing to the seabed. The small tremor it's massive body makes upon impact makes the crater a little more unstable, making the spiderwebbing lines on it spread a little more.
Undeterred, Splashman sends his souped-up Wideshots the way of another Lark. One connects, and the Lark growls at him. The growl quickly becomes another bellow as it releases a Wideshot of it's own just as Splashman unleashes his second. The more powerful wave of water overpowers Splashman's, but when it finally reaches him he barely feels it. Good timing, neh?
That is, until the Lark copies Splashman and fires yet another Wideshot. Even so, this one is reflected by the Guard, but the weaker shield yeilds to the blow much more quickly, and flies out of Splashman's hands to reflect the Wideshot somewhere above them.
The last Lark, seeing it as his chance as he was currently being ignored by Splashman, fires off a Wideshot at the massive boulder that was also being ignored. Being, well, a boulder, the wave hits and creates a spiderweb of cracks where it had hit. The thing would not last long.

"Ack!" Needless to say, blasting that boulder was not good at all from SplashMan's perspective. If he didn't draw its attention soon...he'd rather not think of that right now..."No...! I've gotta do something to get closer and take the heat..."
"Yeah, but I don't want anything breaking down under you. But swimming leaves you wide open, and you'd really have to jet to make sure you get through that thing..." Sabrina suddenly let out a gasp as she realized what probably should've been more obvious. "That's it! Got it!" Instead of remedying the situation with a chip, she brought up the screen for her Navi's own attacks. "Get ready to fly, SplashMan!"
"Fly?" Suddenly, the Aqua Navi could feel the bottom of his back cannons opening, and letting out a tremendous amount of force...and probably water, but who could tell? "Oh!" He positioned himself so that he was directly facing the weakened RogueLarkEX, then gently leaned forward...causing him to be propelled forward at an incredible speed. The tips of his feet were still touching the ground, and he could feel them break, but there was no way the holes would catch up to him. Continuing forward, he lowered his head as he approached his target...then felt something...odd. It very well may have been the virus, but it might've just been underwater turbulance. Either way, he was now up close and personal. "...Help!"
"It's on the way!" A chip featuring a Mettaur and the area being blasted behind it was inserted into the PET. "Battlechip, Shotgun! Slot in!"
The staple blue blaster formed right as the back cannons closed, in a surprising display of synchronosity. Aiming wasn't a problem; if anything, he'd probably have to aim in order to miss his target. He let out a single Shotgun blast, which hopefully wrapped that up. "...Sabrina, can we beat that last one really quick?"
"Uhh..." She looked over her chips, unable to find a way to beat a RogueLarkEX with two attacks...and then it hit her again. They could do it, but it'd take something other than a chip. "Yep! You've got water cannons, use 'em!"
Not one to hesitate when taking damage was an issue, SplashMan leaned forward towards the sole virus that he knew was still at it, and shot a mighty blast of water at it. After all, when you could tell it was a blast of water when it was underwater, it wasn't exactly going to tickle. "That oughta put a dent in it! But...how are we gonna finish it?"
"Leave it to me!" Sabrina's latest move involved inserting a chip featuring a Puffy...the pink, spiky edition. "Battlechip, AquaNeedle! Slot in!" Despite the size of the target, she took some care in making sure they would hit their target.
Back in the Net, the Navi could feel his Aqua power being tapped into, as three needles appeared above him, and shot forward towards the mega Lark. For a moment he felt relief, but a wave of dread suddenly began spreading through his body. "...Er, what if something messed up, and I get attacked?"
The young woman took a few moments, trying to come up with a good way to say what she was about to say. However, she had nothing. "Well...you're on your own with that. We've got Recover80 if that happens, but you're kinda a sitting duck for now..."
SplashMan shuddered, yet didn't try to hide, or even beg the viruses not to attack him. Surprisingly, he stood his ground. "...Well, if it helps that nice big Lark, I'll flow with it!" He puffed out his chest, and yelled, "Yeah!!! Do your worst, stupid giant Lark things!" Of course, as he said this, a sense of 'What the heck am I doing?!' creeped into his mind...

Splashman wastes absolutely no time in attacking. He shoots across the crater's floor, leaving a perfectly straight line down the center, and rams a RogueLark. A familiar Shotgun later, the Lark is lying down on the seabed with two others.
The last Lark, now feeling very protective of itself, eyes Splashman carefully. True, the Water Splash it could not dodge, but in the end it whipped itself around and with surprising agility, manouvred itself in a fashion that it managed to evade one of the needles, leaving itself alive, and Splashman helpless. Taking complete advantage, the Lark sends a Wideshot barreling at Splashman; the Navi eats the souped-up blow full force and is sent flying. That must have hurt.

It took several moments after the painful, facedown landing for SplashMan to even partly recover from eating a full-force WideShot. Now he knew how viruses felt when he used it on them. "...Ow..." He managed to somewhat pick himself up off the floor, and raised to a kneel. "I hurt all over..."
Even Sabrina cringed at that blast. She had never seen a move that powerful come from something other than a Navi. "Hang in there! You're really close to winning!"
Winning? Oh yeah, he was protecting a virus village from that thing. He had kinda gotten that fact knocked out of him when he took that hit. "I gotta protect that boulder...!" While not exactly the fastest he had ever run, the Navi managed to reach a spot right in between the last virus and the home of the friendly Lark. "Now he's gotta get through me to get to here..."
"...Don't be so melodramatic! You've got UnderShirt if you get hit again, and I don't think that'll happen!" Three chips were simultaneously inserted into the PET at this point; all were a chip highly familiar to the eventual user. "Battlechip, Shotgun! Triple slot in!"
Once more, SplashMan's arm became prepared to fire blasts of energy, and he raised it to aim...a little on the shaky side, but it was still aiming. "How many times do I have to hit it, Sabrina?"
"Just once. So let him have it!"
That question, while relevant to the Navi, was more a stall for time due to the fact the shaking was making him take slightly longer to get a good shot. But eventually, he managed to get as good a bead on the RogueLarkEX as he would under non-stressed situations...not that hitting something that huge was especially challenging.
Boosh! Boosh! Boosh!
Three Shotgun blasts were fired in fairly rapid succession, all aimed at the sole remaining virus.

Splashman unloads a blazing hail of Shotgun at the final Lark, who collapses and scatters into particles with a final roar.
But hang on, something wasn't right. It didn't take long to figure out the cause of the uneasy feeling; battle routine hadn't ended. What was blocking it?

(OOC: You know, the Terrain adds up to 105%...)
"Phew...I did it!" SplashMan sunk in, glad it was finally over...or was it? For some reason, his connection with Sabrina's PET was still at battle levels. Which meant that all battle routines were still active. "Sabrina?"
"Yeah?" She was just as confused. "I don't get it...we beat all the giant Larks. The battle should be over..." She quickly rummaged through her folder for a pink chip, and took it out. "I've got a bad feeling about this...Battlechip, Recover80! Slot in!"
The Aqua Navi's body glowed as healing energy restored him to pre-massive WideShot levels. "That's better! Thanks! ...Um, I think I'm gonna go check on that Father Lark, okay?"
"Okay. Might be smart to see how he's doing."
SplashMan made his way towards the crack in the boulder, and took exactly one step in it. "Hey, are you okay, Mr. Father Lark? Sorry about the boulder getting hit, we got a little careless and let them get a hit in on the boulder...but they're all gone now!" A thought suddenly popped in his head; why not see if he knew about why the battle wasn't over? "Oh, I beat the four Larks, but my battle routines are still activated. Do you have any idea why?"

<(Behold, my arseholeness at it's best.)>
Splashman heals up, then hustles into the boulder. The Father's eyes light up as he sees the Navi alive and well. "I am alive and well, thanks to you," the massive Lark rumbles. "The boulder is of no concern to me; it was merely created to protect me from the rogues, if only for a while," he adds, seeing the spiderweb of cracks on the walls.
"As for your question, I know not why. The ways and routines of Navis are unfamiliar to me, and the rogues had created their new bodies to suit their preferences. They may have installed a program of some sort that can save one from death, but my guesses do not do beyond that," the Father then replies. He did not know how right his guess was.
Suddenly, a massive bellowing sound could be heard outside; not a good sign. A second after, the boulder just ... exploded, sending rubble everywhere and leaving Splashman and the Father completely exposed to the threat. Three of the Larks; the last one's viral Undershirt having been pierced by the uneeded Shotguns, were still alive and kicking, if only just. One of them had it's mouth open, as if it had just launched something.
The other two launch their rounds as well. One plows into the stunned Father, making him groan in pain as he struggled to remain alive. Another one smashes into Splashman, sending him flying from the site of the rubble. The three Larks roared, their crazed eyes locked onto the Father.
