Thermostat Troubles

The Air Conditioning Network.

Kirlian landed gracefully after beaming into the network, eyeing his surroundings very carefully. His insecureness came from the fact that it was his first entry into a non-local network, and if anything, he was afraid that he was going to be deleted by some random, insanely strong viruses prowling about. So he turned and looked 360 degrees around him, as if to ensure that his very landing point was safe enough before he actually bothered to move from the spot.

"That is embarrassing, Kirlian. Competent Navigators do not behave like that, and you of all people should know that," Cara said through the communicator, her tongue clicking. Kirlian lowered his head slightly; while he did recall spectating the many network runs done by his predecessors, he did not actually have first-hand experience in surfing networks. "M-my apologies, ma'am. I will not repeat that again," the Navigator said, straightening up and taking measured steps towards the source of Cara's headaches: the faulty thermostat systems.

"Remember Kirlian, I can't seem to find much issues in the schematic diagrams nor the actual electronic parts. So it's probably a network-related issue. It's not our jurisdiction, but just deal with it would you?"

"Yes ma'am, I-I'll do my best."

[[Battle 1 Ready]]
When Kirlian entered the air conditioning network, it looked just like any other local networks...However, a group of viruses was already within the navi's sight. When he got close enough to get a closer look, it was four bunnies with one that looked ridiculously strong, and obviously the boss of the other, weaker three.

Already sensing Kirlian's nervousness, the leader-bunny slowly approached the navi step by step, till it stepped into a panel where a large, red X appeared. In a blink of an eye, a powerful gust swept across the leader-bunny and carried it far, far, FAR away from the network.

"SECURITY PROTOCOL INITIATED...MAIN THREAT EXTRACTED...REVERTING SECURITY LEVEL 10 TO 1."

As the robotic voice echoed through the private network, the red X disappeared and the terrains began to flash as if it was shuffling the trap panels all throughout. The Bunny viruses, on the other hand, was flustered and confused when they realized that their reliable boss was nowhere to be found. On top of the trapped panels, they seemed hesitant to even approach Kirlian any closer than they are!

-BATTLE ONE, START!-
Kirlian's first response to the ridiculously strong-looking virus leader was an "oh shit" expression, nervousness written all over him like a splash of bright-colored paint over an empty canvas. Kirlian remained in his position, however, as he knew that there was another scary force behind him: his Operator. He gulped silently, watching as the leader-bunny edged ever closer.

Then it flew away.

"I-It would seem that the area is trapped, ma'am, a-and the security system has already evicted one of the larger threats," Kirlian reported his sightings, watching the panel flipping back to normal after the quick leader-bunny eviction. His eyes moved to see the terrain flashing in multitudes of red X-es, getting slightly flustered himself at the uncertainty.

Cara, annoyed, clicked her tongue. "So? Do something about it, Kirlian. I'm watching," the Operator said unceremoniously, one hand reaching to massage her aching neck while the other reached for her coffee. Kirlian's response was slower than the rest of her designed Navigators, and she was eager to know the cause.

That, of course, placed Kirlian in tremendous amounts of stress. Not at all did he notice that the remaining virii were also hesitant about approaching him, being afraid of the very same uncertainty that binded him down. He heard his operator sigh audibly, as if in disappointment. "Kirlian. I did not design you to be based off EM because it was something cute or cool. Please utilise what you have," his Operator said in a dull manner, a few gulps of the fresh coffee down her throat.

"Understood, m-ma'am," the Navigator started, his brows furrowing. Just how was he to actually put his abilities to good use? He was not exactly programmed to be creative or strategically sound... but...

His eyes roved to the circular bit that he had with him, its' body hovering patiently, waiting to be used. Right; he could make use of the trapped panels to his advantage! Feeling slightly confident of his own idea, he allowed the bit to disengage into two separate parts before hovering before him, electrical charges traveling between them before joining once more as a single piece.

As it hovered before Kirlian, he placed his hand at the center hole as the circular bit began to spin-- first slowly, then picking up speed as its' internal magnets began to generate an EM field. Spotting the first fidgety Bunny virus, Kirlian directed his palm and circular bit to aim at it, before firing a wave of magnetic field at the virus-- generating an artificial field of repelling waves, attempting to knock the Bunny across a few panels to activate any trapped terrain on its' way.

As soon as the first wave was fired, the circular bit shited its' angle slightly, this time aiming at another Bunny virus. Kirlian blinked; he had received a chip data from Cara. "I didn't say I wouldn't help you. Now use it," his operator said in a commanding tone, and Kirlian couldn't help but be impressed by the aura she emitted. Shifting his attention back to the virus once more, the coil surrounding his arm started to generate a ball of pure energy. It was then immediately let loose across the trapped field, the energy sphere packed also with the same magnetic wave he fired at the earlier virus-- making it a damaging and repelling projectile.

His attack done, the circular bit slowed down its' cycle as Kirlian kept a watchful eye for any incoming assault or retaliation, his legs and torso ready to make any avoidance measures.

Kirlian's first action was to see if he could trigger a trap by simply moving one virus, so he did, but he didn't have any such luck as the virus still cowered even after being moved back.

The second Bunny took the Cannon shot straight on, whimpering as it was knocked back and... blown sideways. Nothing too exciting.

The final Bunny fired a ring of electricity at Kirlian, but he moved out of the way, before being blown diagonally to the right.

Woosh. Kirlian watched, slightly disappointed that the winds did not blow as hard as the one that ejected the bunny leader virus... But as he dodged the electrical ring flying at his face, Kirlian was pretty happy with the fact that the wind was mild. He almost lost his footing to the sudden gust of wind, making him teeter towards his right-- then he securely planted his feet onto the ground again. "That was close." Kirlian breathed a quick sigh of relief, his composure relaxing significantly.

"KIRLIAN! There are still enemies! What the heck are you doing?!" Cara lashed out immediately in response, the sound of her banging her worktable echoing through Kirlian's private communicators-- and the Navigator visibly winced. "Keep yourself focused on your surroundings, Kirlian. Do you want to be deleted?" the middle-aged woman added acidly, shaking her head in disappointment.

"N-no ma'am," Kirlian shakily responded, biting his lower lip as he tried to formulate an impromptu battle strategy. He couldn't afford to fail more than he did now, and it was obvious that Cara was getting impatient from his underperformance. Now that he thought about it, Kirlian's earlier Navigator brothers were pretty monstrous and efficient in terms of battle; it was no surprise that Cara's benchmark for himself was that high (and ridiculous, but he shouldn't think of Cara that way).

Regardless, these viruses were part of the cause of the thermostat malfunction; there was no other way out for them save for deletion. A sharp crackle began to fill Kirlian's arm-mounted coils; a streak of lightning making it's way there from Kirlian's back-mounted coils. Imitating the actions of throwing a punch, Kirlian threw his right fist at the direction of the already-injured Bunny virus; and at the same moment, a bright web of lightning flashed across the field towards it, and attempting to short-circuit anything within it's range.

Cara huffed at his actions in mild approval, her fingers reaching for an appropriate chip for Kirlian's support. It was good that Kirlian has thus far maintained the trapped terrain... it was causing panic and hesitance amongst the enemies. Or perhaps Kirlian was too stupid to realise that he could remove the traps? ... Best not to overthink about the matter. While Cara took her time deciding on the chip to send over, Kirlian was on the move-- this time, more carefully to maintain his footing and land more gracefully than his earlier trapped landing. He kept his attention on the viruses' actions to increase the effectiveness of his dodge maneuver.

Soon after, Cara sent over a shotgun chip. The two smaller remote bits shot immediately into action; the two triangular bits joined together, each internal ring glowing brightly from the energy charge before firing a beam-like shot from their nozzles, their target being one of the healthier Bunnys. Cara took the opportunity to load the battle analytics program; a graphical overlay displaying Kirlian's performance and statistics.

Kirlian had no time to rest, even if it was his first battle, as his operator nagged on...At the same time, the Bunnies wasn't simply going to allow the navi to rest either!

Before Kirlian let off some of his electricity, the Bunnies lobbed few of their shocking rings...But none of them made the mark. The web of lightning hit the center Bunny, causing the poor virus to overload and explode into meatydata-y junks as it splashed all over its fellow virus. The remote bits, however, dealt with the rest of the viruses in a much cleaner, efficient way than the sig-attack!

"THREAT ELIMINATED...SHUTTING DOWN SECURITY PROTOCOL IN SECTOR 0"

As soon as the viruses were taken care of, the voice echoed through the room, notifying Kirlian that the passage was now safe for further exploration!

As soon as the booming announcer voice subsided, Kirlian calmly walked over to collect the rewards that he oh so deserved. He waited for the moment where Cara reached for her cup of coffee, with her eyes averted from the monitor...

... to strike a quick victory pose.
It didn't last long, however; after all, Cara was a quick and efficient woman. The monitor that greeted Cara after her dosage of caffeine was a normal one-- Kirlian being sober and awaiting instructions.

"Get movin'," Cara snapped, leaning back in her seat. Kirlian nodded briefly, his feet moving, the small smile never having left his face since the little act earlier.

[[Battle 2 Ready]]
Moving along the area, Kirlian searched for more anomalies in the air-conditioning network, trying to find more viruses to exterminate. His walking led him to a coolant-feed area, where large vents from the metal roadway expelled lukewarm air into his face. Some viruses hung around this area for whatever reason, probably because they liked being warm or something. In any case, the rolling tanks went onto the roadway, while the Canodumbs stood at the side, locking onto his position.

As the vents blew comfortable warm air at Kirlian's face, that face of his seemed to degenerate into what a kitten's face would look like when placed in front of a table fan-- eye squinted and all.

He resisted the urge to make funny voice refractions at the nearest blower.

"Just where are you looking, Kirlian? There are viruses to delete right in front of you," Cara noted impatiently, her feet tapping, "Line up two enemies and shoot them down with the shotgun." Kirlian jolted back to a defensive, prepared stance as she said so, before lifting his legs and spurted sideways, using one of the Cannondumbs as the main target as he tried to align them for the shot.

Eager little remote bits floated along Kirlian's spurt, with one of the bit's pointed edge at the direction of the Cannondumb. The circular bit was busy poking at Kirlian's back, as if urging him to run faster.

As soon as he found a proper alignment, Kirlian's bits fired off a resounding shot, as if imitating the sound effects of a real shotgun. He dived to the ground and tumble rolled just then, as if feeling the need to avoid any repurcussions or counterattacks that may come after. The three bits dived as well-- and rolled after their master.

The tumbling Kirlian threw out an arm, as if willing-- and hoping-- one of the Kabutanks to move, in an attempt to collide it with the other Cannondumb. The other small remote bit stopped rolling then, just in time, to aim at the enemy's direction, discharging a cannonball-sized energy particle as it cruised through the battlefield.

Alarmed by the navi's attack, the Cannondumbs immediately fired their prepared shots, pegging the navi on the side even when he attempted to dodge away from it all.

Despite the fact that the attack wasn't as successful, Kirlian continued and sent off one of his bits to attack, firing a powerful blast of energy at the Kabutank and putting it into critical condition!

"Ouch... that didn't go well," Kirlian said with a hurtful look, listening to the incessant scolding of Cara. Even if he had given it his all earlier, three enemies remained standing; and the odds were stacked highly against him right now.

"Listen to me, Kirlian. You know you can do it. You just need a little assertion, that's all-- and this is a good lesson for you. Now goddamn help me fix the stupid thermostat," Cara told him... much to his dismay, whereby the first line sounded like support, in the end, Cara was really just thinking about getting the job done at the end of the day.

Kirlian simply nodded; he was used to it by now, but it still hurt sometimes. While to most people, a Navigator is a friend, for Kirlian and Cara, they were only maintaining a professional relationship between a user and a mere tool.

Regardless, he still had to get the job done. Lifting himself back into a fighting position, his two hands curled into tight fists as the coils around his arms charged and gathered electricity. An arm placed in front of him, Kirlian discharged the electricity towards the weakened Kabutank, the lightning streaking across the battlefield before spreading into tinier bolts in a chain-like effect, hoping to catch the other enemies within the region.

The circular bit hummed and aided in Kirlian's attacks, firing a magnetic wave that attempted to group the Cannondumbs nearer to the lone Kabutank right before the chain lightning struck.

He then started moving-- the bits following him in his wake as he tumbled once more, making evasive measures. His other arm, still charged with coil energy, was reinforced by the chip that Cara just sent to Kirlian, giving the energy glitching effect that came with the data.

Almost like throwing a ball, Kirlian waved that arm in a wide arc towards one of the Cannondumbs, firing an EM wave that flashed in odd colors of green and purple.

"Good, now finish the last one!" Cara uttered in a commanding tone, the last unused chip in their arsenal on it's way to Kirlian's disposal. A melee-oriented tactic? A novel idea to the Navigator, but he did not mind trying it out.

Taking measured steps towards the lone Cannondumb, his jog turning into a spurt almost immediately after takeoff. His eyes watching the Cannondumb's movements, Kirlian made sure he was ready to avoid anything that might come flying at his way as he closed the distance.

The circular bit broke off from him in his tackle then, becoming two independent parts (like someone cleaved a donut into two, Cara mused). Kirlian placed both arms wide behind him, and each semi-circular bit connected with an arm coil; electrical sparks travelling in an endless loop between the coils and the bits to magnify the EM waves surrounding Kirlian, until...

... The two circular bits began generating a blade-like particle at the outside of their tubular bodies, effectively making Kirlian being able to wield them like oversized katars. With their absurd size, however, Kirlian looked like he was holding two bladed bows in his hand.

As soon as he closed the gap with Cannondumb, Kirlian swung an arm, swinging one arm upwards in an uppercut as the blade flashed across the air. The air surrounding Kirlian and the Cannondumb seem to hum in response to the presence of the electrical charges, and began to apply pressure on the Cannondumb to bend towards Kirlian's blade to finish itself off.

With one last target left, and options running low, Kirlian perhaps went for the desperation move, though he managed to make it seem easy as he started to dash towards the cannon, which quickly sent a blast back towards the navi only for him to easily avoid it. And while the Cannondumb could only try and make corrections to its aim, the sudden jerk forward brought it easily into range to fall prey to those terrifying katars the navi now wielded. Easily cutting the virus in two before it finally burst in a dramatic explosion that for some reason, did little more than blow the navi's hair slightly, go figure.

"See Kirlian? You can do it, especially with my help," Cara huffed, to which Kirlian nodded as he picked up his rewards. Unknown to his Operator, Kirlian actually felt really good after his first victory; in fact, he was a tiny little bit proud of his own achievement, especially when his hair wavered slightly like a cool comic character.

"... Kirlian? Kirlian. Are you listening?"

He snapped back to his own reality, blinking as Cara called for his attention. "Do you see the cause of the error?" Cara snapped, once again unhappy with Kirlian's aloofness. Very hard woman to please. Kirlian turned around, surveying-- other than the lukewarm air vents, there was nothing else out of the ordinary (and of particular interest to Kirlian). He shook his head.

"K. March on."

[[Battle 3 Ready]]
Moving on, Kirlian would come across an odd site for the network, almost set up like a park, metal panels met a small ring of glowing ones where two statues seemed to sit. And on either side of them two viruses were playing a game of catch, tossing their boomerangs around and trying to catch the other's as they circled the statues. Though truth be told they weren't statues at all, because as he made his approach an alarm seemed to signal from one of the two statues, and they rose up slightly, revealing shields that spilt long enough for the navi to spot a powerful looking cannon hidden behind before it quickly snapped closed. The signal was enough to get those Boomers to change their game from catch, to get the navi.

--Battle 3, Start!--
"This is odd," Cara said, observing the surroundings like what Kirlian was doing. "This doesn't look like a part of the system at all. We might just be getting closer to the cause," the engineer added, jotting down notes on a handy, physical notepad; if there was one thing that she learnt from her profession, it was to never trust automation in anything that's valuable, such as research information.

When the statues suddenly turned hostile, however, it was time for action, and not just research. "N-new virus types, ma'am. Your instructions?" Kirlian said, visibly intimidated from the huge cannons hidden behind each statue's shields. "Stun them, then damage them," Cara said simply, throwing in a RageClaw chip and letting Kirlian figure out the rest.

Kirlian panicked at the short instructions, looking through and fro between the four viruses that were clearly out for his blood... data... whatever. There was no way that he could stun all of them at once, unless-- well--

--the circular remotebit poked at his palms to get his attention, spinning slightly to angle a LED-like display for Kirlian to view. The words "Magnet Zone" flashed a few times in dramatic monochrome goodness across the LED display before disappearing, and Kirlian couldn't help but snap at his fingers. "G-good thinking," Kirlian said, sprinting into action as he attempted to close the distance between himself and the viruses.

His two bits floated upwards, getting good leverage before firing a thin laser each to surround Kirlian; marking the area for panel transformation. The circular bit hummed once in a fixed frequency, flashing before returning to it's original state; and with it came the panels, shifted into a magnetised state.

As soon as the deed was done, the circular bit let loose some steam and disengaged from the charged, connecting point-- allowing Kirlian access to it as a melee weapon once more. The moment the distance was closed, and the Boomers were in melee range, Kirlian swung one of his bit-equipped arm in a wide slash across. The half-bit, as it neared contact with the virus, expelled a wave of EM that could very much possibly send the virus flying that went with the charged attack.

The main problem, however, were the Cannonguards. The shields surrounding their weapons looked very tough, and Kirlian did not pack sufficient offensive power to bring it down. The only chance he had was to wait for them to fire their cannons, making it a highly risky opening for retaliation-- but for now, it would have to suffice if Kirlian could just... confuse them... for a moment...

His left hand started flapping in front of him towards the Cannonguards. An invisible EM wave seemed to follow his flapping, travelling at fast speeds to collide with both cannon units, attemping to spin them in their place. The two smaller bits joined in the fun, suddenly emitting sparks and fired lightning bolts at the direction of the viruses.

Charging forth, Kirlian quickly closed the distance between himself and the viruses, and doing so really helped his odds as those wide arcing boomerangs just went sailing right back to where he'd been only moments before. Upon arriving those remote bits shone down their bright panel altering beam and quickly transformed all the solar panels to magnets, which in turn got the boomers to lurch forward slightly. Which as it turned out was just within reach for him to send a powerful blast of wind that knocked that first virus up and sent it crashing into the other dealing both painful blow.

Though that use of air currents wasn't finished as next came a sudden lash of wind straight between the Cannonguards just as they'd locked onto him. Which thanks to him transforming the panels beneath, were locked down and instead of getting blown back, were sent whirling wildly. Round and round and round they whirled before perhaps all too soon they'd start to slow down, one could almost hear a spinning wheel as it clicked to their final placements, and when each came to a stop, both fired!

That first blast as it turned out slammed right into the other turret thanks to the sudden confusion of being sent whirling. But it seemed the blast of air was just off center, because the second one seemed to have come to a stop face to face with the engineer, sending a cannon blast right at him and with the surprise of it the shot connected head on.

Not to be deterred Kirlian let those bits fire off a shocking blast, which managed to not only zap the boomer, but thanks to their just slamming into one another, it sparked off and struck the second as well.

Counting his lucky stars as the boomerangs swept past his original position like the whirlwind, Kirlian breathed a sigh of relief as he carried out his attacks. He can't be all-lucky, however, as he took a surprised shot from a quickly recovered Cannonguard. Ow.

"Serves you right," Cara chuckled evilly, watching the spectacle. Thinking that the spinning EM wave could do anything more than a brief moment of time bought showed how much of a rookie Kirlian was in this gig. No matter, valuable lessons are usually painful.

Regardless of the hit taken, upon seeing that his initial tactics worked, Kirlian once again brandished his half-circular-bit weapons, this time using it like a club to attempt to smash the weaker of the Boomers to oblivion. The engineering Navigator relied on the bit's weight for momentum and power, as he angled his smashing hit at the direction of the other Boomer.

Taking the opportunity of his caveman-like attack, both of his two smaller bits spun in the air slightly, as if collecting a tiny whirl of particles before one fired at the Cannonguard that shot at Kirlian earlier, letting loose a wave that once again attempt to disengage it's locking mechanism and send it spinning once more... a more exciting version of the Sharonian Roulette.

The other bit, however, used it's charged particles to discharge a possibly debilitating ball of electricity at the still-healthy Cannonguard, seeking to end it's still-healthy reign once and for all.

While the bits were hard at work, Kirlian moved away from all the commotion, his legwork almost making him look like a bunny hopping away from danger.

Kirlian seemed to have no trouble swinging his intricate weapon of his as a blunt club, but it sure did the job as one of the Boomer virus was taken care of. With a sudden change in technological weaponry, the navi used the similar bit to fire a blast of electricity to delete the exposed Cannonguard.

The magnet panels were keeping the other two viruses in check, moving them around back and forth to keep them busy...
