Wut?

[LOL, MODLOCK!]

As Seraphim progresses through the net, something strange occurs. As his feet land on a patch of what appeared to be nondescript terrain, a red flash erupted from the ground. Shortly After, lines of red formed a square around Seraphim before extending outward, forming a clean 40 squares of terrain, five rows long and four columns wide. Upon the design's completion, the 'panels' began to glow... Some red, and some blue, with no two panels of the same color touching.

Then, on the two furthest rows, the panels began to shine fiercely, as small objects seemed to rise from each square. From the front row, what appeared to be 10 spikeys rose. Unlike normal spikeys, however, these were black in color and lacked finer detail to their appearance, such as eyes and fur detail. Then, in the back rows outer columns, two black, featureless bunnies rose, with two swordys next to them, followed by two spookies, followed again by a normnavi and what appeared to be a throne, all sharing the black and featureless trend.

Finally, a small cloaked figure popped out of the throne, then took his seat and limply rose a hand to remove his hood, revealing the face of what appeared to be a young teenage boy, a bit pale and bearing ruby red hair, nicely feathered back in addition to goldenrod eyes. A smirk was present on the boy's face.

"So, you're the one who makes it to my grounds, eh? My my..." He says, beginning to chuckle a bit. "... It's not often that I get a pawn on the opposing field. So, I suppose the question I'm wondering is 'Will you play along, or will you die a lowly cheater's death?' Hm..." His face turned stern and cold as he uttered those words.

"In any case, my name is Kain, and my rules are as thus:

-We shall each take 'turns' attacking each other, until one of us is 'destroyed'. The slayer is considered the victor.

-I may move any two of my units according to their movement speed during my 'turn'. My wolves here are capable of moving just one panel each 'turn', but it is your duty to figure out how the others move on your own, if you wish to survive. You are allowed to move only one panel per 'turn'. (Movement takes an action)

-We may only attack you when within range, and even then, I can only attack with the two units I chose to control for the 'turn'. Further, none of my units are allowed more than one attack a 'turn.' In exchange for my abilities to move units, you are skilled in agression, and thusly allowed to attack as much as you like, so long as you...

--Do not attack units from a side that they are coved by another unit, which is to say if another unit stands between a straight line of of you and the target, you may not attack it UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.
--Do not attack units from above.

And, most importantly...

--Do not attack me while other units exist on the field.

--Further, it would appear that you have a Support Unit, and have no value in lying to me about it or trying to hide it. Assuming it can even leave you at all, it is not allowed to, but may also attack or otherwise aid you if so desired.

One would do well to honor ALL of these rules if he wishes to survive. The penalties for EITHER of us caught cheating will be dire. If this is understood, then let the games begin!"
He finishes with a laugh.

"Your move..."

READY! GO!!
"...Erin, what did he say? It was something about a game he wants to play. Do you think he wants to be friends?" Erin asked, frankly not processing what the post-pubescent boy was saying. He sure had funny hair. Seraphim was glad he didn't have weird hair like that. He grinned and nodded, crossing his arms. Erin flicked the screen on and sighed. She had heard the speech, and her navi seemed to have altered slightly. Seraphim seemed a bit more self-confident in himself, although he was acting a bit childish, he seemed genuinely not able to understand the directions. With her vast experience in videogames, she understood what this was, immediately. It was a twisted version of the classic known as Netopian 'Chess'. It was a strange name, and was a strategy game, as opposed to a real-time-strategy, players took turns, moving one piece at a time and executing attacks, and it lead for a quite long and interesting match.

Erin had thrown away the chess set at 7.

Well, no biggie, right? This was more like a fantasy tactics game anyway. She shrugged, and rethought the instructions. She could properly- waiiit. Just a second, there. This wasn't a simgame where everything was controlled by strict rules, and certain things could happen, certain things could not and... She didn't trust this guy at all. She bit her lip. Should she explain this to Seraphim? The rules were in a nice set, she didn't trust this at all. She ground her teeth for a second, then decided to risk it. At best, her navi would simply see it as a game, at worst, he would delete himself through some spectacularly stupid situational error which only he could think up.

"Okay, Seraphim. It's like an 'old time' game called Chess." She spoke, wondering if he had knowledge of the actual game, or if the navi was completely oblivious to the ter-

"What's Chess? It sounds like a name to me." Seraphim answered, questioningly.

The poor netop sighed.

"Okay, it's a minigame. Those Spikeys are statues controled by the big bad guy Kain-who-killed-his-brother-and-sucks-souls. So are the rest of them. The Spikeys are the weakest, but I have a nasty feeling that they can upgrade if the other side of the... playing field. Due to--- Ah- Something." She finished the sentence lamely, then waited for an answer. Erin hoped her navi wouldn't just fumble the entire statement, his not knowing the simplest things irked her.

Although it was her fault.

"Right... Don't let Spikeys cross. Just like that other old-time game. That one with the toad thing!" Seraphim misquoted a game, possibly a first for the navi, as he readied himself. It was only a game, so he didn't have to worry about hurting anything, so he was pretty happy. After he like- checkmated the kain dude, he thought that was the word, anyway, he'd win! No blood or anything, he could just throw out a hand and help him up, 'Thank you, Seraphim, I've seen the error of my ways! Please allow me to help you on your journey and join your party as a mysteriously reoccuring character with strategy/luck based abilities and reveal myself to be one of the endbosses later!' The navi nodded at his operator, encouraging her to continue.

"Uh, okay. The bunnies probably count as rooks, they're- five times more powerful or so than a spikey pawn, if regular chess says anything, anyway. The swordies are knights, I think, while the spookies serve as the bishop's proxy. The Normalnavi is... the queen, I think. It might be a catch-22, where the Kain guy is actually the queen, and the Normalnavi is the king, but I doubt it. He seems pretty egotistic. Too much of an ego to do that, anyway." Erin leaned back. Now... She had to strategize.

"So- You can't hit more than one thing in a straight line. You couldn't use Shot Gun on the spikey and hit the thing behind while it is being 'covered' by a spikey. You can't propell yourself into the air in order to accomplish this either, unfortunately. He'll control two a turn to attack you, although he didn't say anything else." Erin chewed on a fingernail, which was getting quite worn. What Seraphim thought and did after this might change the outcome of the match itself.

"He'll play by the rules! He's a good guy, right, Kain?" Seraphim asked, a sunny grin on his face.

You're so Naïve.

"Whah?" Seraphim whirled around, his sword-mesh-gun pointing out at nothingness. He looked to one side. The other. Nothing. He spun back around. Well, voices were nothing big for a hero. This one just sounded... a bit more... ominous. Less encouraging, more.... morbid. More foreboding than anything.

Sorry. I'll have to shut you down. You can handle this, but not with both of us running at the same time.

"Seraphim? Are you okay?" Erin asked concernedly, her face furrowing into a v with many wrinkles as she looked at her navi closely. He looked almost as if he was drunk.

"What're yo-ouuuuu..." Seraphim slipped, landing on his hands and knees. His sword-mesh-gun clattered out of suddenly clammy and unfeeling hands. Seraphim's eyes dilated, the navi's vision was so blurry it made the enemy look like one large blurry ball. The navi's eyes drifted shut as fire sprang up all around the navi, each blaze cresting like a wave and pounding into the navi's body, causing the uniform to change, and the body to jerk itself to a standing position.

"You've messed with the wrong fellow here." The navi clutched the multicolored orb hanging from a seemingly delicate chain around his throat. The other hand, no longer gauntleted at all, snapped its fingers, calling the gun-mesh-sword into existence there.

Already...? I was sleeping, dangit! Aren't your damned days supposed to pass in the blink of an eye? The voice roared, perturbing the new navi just slightly.

"We were needed. We came here for the job. Let's finish it, shall we?" talking to yourself seemed to be quite a common habit for Seraphim, as Erin, no longer worried, just looked at her navi strangely before finally taking her parents off hold.

"Erin, what was happening? Are you alright?-" Her parents seemed quite concerned, as the mother was shaking the viewscreen that connected the parents to their child. Her father was unplugging things that had nothing to do with the viewscreen and plugging them back in in hopes of making it work with completely unrelated things, and Erin sighed. If only she could- wait. Plugging something completely unrelated... She grinned.

"Mom, Dad, I'd like you to meet my navi you gave me, 'Seraphim.exe'." With that, she flipped the view to her navi, muted their sound, and went back to trying to advise her navi. 'Her navi' was busy talking to himself.

"If you're going to complain, go ahead. I'm making this quick, simple... And by the book too, to boot." The navi bit the leather tip of a finger of the gauntlet, pulling with his teeth until the entire gauntlet came at once, then threw his head to the side, the momentum causing the gauntlet to hit the ground with a thud.

The gloves are off, indicating a superior magic power, as if that glove had been a limiter at all times beforehand. The voice seemed slightly sarcastic, but the navi just rolled his eyes. It wasn't so much as a magical limiter as simply easier to materialize the force he wished to utilize in a single blast in this way. And-uh... It was probably more dramatic. That may have had something to do with it.

"Okay, whatever, whatever. Kain, why don't I play this game of yours, hmm?" The navi's grin was a bit unnerving, as the formerly cheerful Seraphim stepped back and forth, pacing in a line.

SUBJECT IS PLANNING SOMETHING. STATE PLAN:? The question was rather invalid, as the navi was proceeding with his plan.

"If I cannot use a line to hit an opponent- I will simply chain an effect. As so, aptly named attacks called 'Chain Lightning', where I am not hitting things covered in a direct line. So, I can use this attack-" Thus saying, Seraphim snapped his fingers, and hurled a ball of energy at the first spikey. Asit neared its target, the ball of lightning lashed out, a blueish hue strip of jagged light cutting through the ranks of the spikeys, but the spikeys only. It was targeted for them. Them only.

A worthy strategic attack, you can increase this attack's power by using repeated taps of the X key, normally called 'button mashing.' Be aware of your opponents and their attempts to reduce the damage dealt to them through their own button mashing. The voice was similarly ignored as the navi held up two fingers.

"You have 16 creatures in all. Two each of the specified type- then the unspecified has 8, then the specialized ones are you and your friend there. I'm assuming each of the specialized ones have an ability, but fortunately, they can't use that ability. Rather- they can't if they're dead. Now, I can't discern quite yet if my attack hit, but there's another way of 'sliding' with your rules. And that there, is to simply fire a multi-targeting shot that fires in a horizontal line, disassociating myself with the line rule, while still obeying it." The navi loaded the gun-mesh-sword while speaking, pulling back the hammer, and the trigger swiftly followed, once, twice, three times, the discharging of the same bullet happened three times, flaming bullets flying forth at the opponents he had selected.

"Good." Erin chewed some more on a worn nail, "There's that other attack he has. If it homes, it can fall under the rules through a technical loophole, I think. If he intentionally fired it past, and it looped backward, it could hit- No. That wouldn't work. It depends on him, so the only way he'd be able to 'cheat' in that manner would to be to get behind them to kill them." She loaded another three chips in, grimacing. These rules were a bother, but they probably only made the battle more interesting for her navi anyway.

"Now, your opposition, if those hit, would be signficantly less. Although your chess match is quite interesting, I would rather fight you, and you alone. Thus, I apologize for the rush, I'd rather not deal too much with simple underlings when I can fight with someone on a completely differing level." With that, the navi fired three more times, nearly carelessly, the effort of holding the weapon still despite the recoil was taking a slight toll, there was no gauntlets to protect his arm right now. 'Seraphim' gestured with the weapon at the navi who called himself 'Kain', then fired a single shot, which blurred past Kain to explosive effect, aiming for the final piece, provided everything else had hit. One eye half closed, he seemed almost slightly bored with the foe. He made the statement. He didn't want to battle these pathetic minions. They were just dolls. Tools. He wanted to battle- the real thing.

"Come down from that throne of yours, and let us- Duel."

"Hmhmhm... What a shame, the sporadic nature of a lightning spell..." The boy uttered, as two of his wolves remained, sadly only long enough to absorb the firey waves that followed, exploding in a dazzling eruption of flames. "And so ends the lives of my pawns, but at least they served in covering for my main force..." He looks to his right, and the panels below the NormNavi and Bunny flash. The Bunny zips ahead as the NormNavi is hit by the MarkCannon, and yet, there it remains.

"Hm... And there you must surely realize that this particular unit is rather special. Here's another fine example..." The NormNavi then morphs one of its arms into what appears to be a MarkCannon of its own. The Navi then takes aim as the Bunny charges energy from its ears. The two then strike simultaneously upon the hero, whose armor holds, if just barely. The navi grins. "Aha, it would seem you too have some surprises in store. Interesting." He chuckles a bit as he pulls what appears to be a card out of his cloak.

Taking a short, somewhat apathetic glance at the card, he drops it, and as it touches the panel upon which his throne sits, it seems to meld into the ground, disappearing from view.

"If you are bored by these minions of mine, fret not, for it seems you shall be done with them soon. Afterwards, I will honor you with the 'duel' you desire so." Upon finishing the sentence, his hair seemed to be falling out of his head... And into the sky. Upon further examination, Seraphim is capable of telling that Kain's hair remains intact, and that what appeared to be threads of energy were coming off of him.

"That's quite a bit of viruses, I must say." Erin remarked idly, twisting a lock of hair over and over again, trying to spot an advantage the lone navi could gain.

"No worries! I've got lots of area of effect, and my speed is a lot faster than theirs!" The navi grinned delightedly, delivering a smacking fist into his other hand. Seraphim gestured, drawing his gun-mesh-sword from the etherworld it was stored in referred to as 'an inventory'. The weapon flipped from the right hand to the left, as the navi gripped it, slightly worn leather creasing and uncreasing as his hold adjusted. Licking his lips, he stared at the opposition, flipping open the the mesh-gun-sword.

"That's right... The terrain is metal. You could easily take them out with a single firesword!" Erin claimed, her voice arrogant with imagined victory. Seraphim paused, seeming unsatisfied with that idea. "What's wrong? It ensures we win the battle quickly, right?" She mentioned, trying to cause her naive net navigator to attack and get this over with.

"But... equip change takes an action!" Seraphimi explained, attempting to usher away effectiveness with style as he argued with his operator.

"Ugh, fine. Here, let's see, then. If you insist on using these stylish attacks of yours, then-- I suppose you could use the Phoenix shot, and these two...." She sighed, placing the chips into the slot one by one, feeling regret with every click.

As the chips registered in the PET, Seraphim grinned, delivering several imbued bullets into their respective slots, then flipping the barrel back ingo the strange weapon.

"Okay! Double attack, Electric Burst!" The gun simply sputtered, as it expected him to give a more possible command. The navi started turning the weapon up to his face, before Erin rolled her eyes and made a sarcastoc comment as to how she never expected him to hit himself with his own attack. The weapon finally clicked, then the recoiled simply knocked Seraphim off his feet and literally into the air. He flew back at least five feet before hitting the ground with what sounded like a painful smack.

"Oof!" He exclaimed, then clambered back up, his eyes still refocusing. The blast hadn't let out any sort of sound, just light, fury, and- the significant recoil. The blast had flown in innumerable directions, but it would most likely center down to a couple precise hits. Probably. Maybe. Well, he'd have to make sure, obviously. He clicked the cocking mechanism to the next shell, placing both hands... and feet, in a bracing position so he wouldn't go flying again this time. Staring down the barrel of the weapon, he pulled the trigger more tentatively, as if the slower motion would make it give less of a 'bang' reaction.

If anything, it just made it go boom better.

The explosion sent Seraphim staggering back, and the recoil made his arms fly up into the air above his head, as he winced, this time a cloud of smoke obscured his view. The small effects he felt, though, were nothing compared to what the enemy must be feeling right now though, he thought. The fiery pellets the weapon had blasted, similar to shotgun shells except- well, flaming. He clicked it to the next bullet, firing again. His arms were getting numb. He almost reluctantly cycled it to the next one. Four more shots left to go. Another fiery discharge, another explosive recoil. Seraphim shifted the weapon to his right hand, shaking out his left.

"You sure you don't want to use the fire sword?" She asked, holding the powerful chip in her hand. The navi sighed, glancing longingly for it. His pride wouldn't let him though, and he shifted to the final bullet. "Here, the skill is enabled, just use it once or something if you're that concerned with style, then." The girl rolled her eyes again, not understanding her navi's stupidity at times.

Seraphim nodded his head in thanks, then whipped around in a circle, holding the weapon in the air.

"Take this! Blazing Blade!" His amazingly original dialogue never lost its punch, or at least.. it remained effective, as the weapon burst into white fire. He bunched up, holding it to the ground, then rushed forward, slashing at the remaining enemies, then pulling up his weapon, for the final attack.

"Flawless Finisher, Electric Execution!" Lightning cracked down from the sky, the bright flash blasting into the panels, and suddenly, Erin hoped their conductivity ended at each panel... Or her navi might have just made his swan song.

The UFOs quickly rush Seraphim before he can do much of anything, the Purple one grabs the ElecReel data out of Seraphim's hand, and flies wildly around the area carrying it. The second Elecreel worked in it's place, just fine, frying the Elecballs. Seraphim follows up with a beautiful Flux Shot, blasting Billys away leaving not even a trace of them behind. Cool.

Then things start to go downhill. The first Phoenix shot destroys the RedUFOs, but the second shot does little, as the Purple UFO is flying too wildly to hit, and, while the rest of the shot hits the Pulsebulbs square in front, it does zero damage! One of the Pulsebulbs rotates and turns, spots Seraphim, then speeds incredibly speedily up to him before firing a giant shockwave of electrical energy forwards. The SP took the brunt of the blast, but since the attack was powered up by the terrain, it was too much to handle, and dissipated.

Seraphim's firesword destroys the Billy, but the results are the same to the Pulsebulb.

Seraphim doesn't have a second ElecReel. The bright side to this, though, is that the Firesword is still active.

The explosions were varying, but the, well, boom that sent Seraphim flying in the other direction wasn't very comforting. It sent him bouncing against the ground over and over again, hitting it with repeated smacks as he flinched, then rolled to a stop. He tried to raise himself up. His data degenerated, as his armor degraded.

"Dammit!" He groaned. It didn't physically hurt, but he felt like he had lost something precious. Reflexively clutching his legs to himself before letting go and staggering to his feet, he looked around, shaken. His advanced 'armor' had been stripped away, leaving him with his rather shorter vest, baggy leggings, sandals, and out of place gauntlets. The valiant navi stood straight and- averagely tall, his features slightly twisted. He recalled the spirit of a warrior, as it was about all he could do, his energy felt suddenly drained, gone with the armor. Furthermore, why was he back in his first stage? He'd been drained... And that was not good at all.

"At least it's not Death status," he muttered, shaking off the foreboding feeling. He channeled his memories of fire, of power, into himself. He threw it all into a mix of flames, courage, and resummoned power whirled around him, a result of the channeling from other sources. The internet itself? Perhaps. More likely from his own storages, brought forth by his stupid morals, though. The air whirled faster about the navi, again and again as Seraphim growled, his armor shifting its forms again. And again, and finally- The armor- there was none. There was just bandages wrapped from waste upto right below the upper abdomen, baggy leggings and armored boots- and there was no semi coat as a collar with a clock that flashed '00:00' formed around Seraphim's neck. Gauntlets reformed and became more slim, the same readout upon them as well.

"Well, well well! What do we got here?!" The exclamation was more of a statement than a question, as the navi smacked the gloves together as a boxer might, jumping slightly in place as he bobbed his head back and forth just a bit before settling down. He smirked as he swayed back and forth, then charged into action, his fists first glowing, then literally 'electrifying' as the navi near literally threw his fist at his opponent, sending a storm of electric bolts within a small radius at his foe's head. He didn't pause to see the result, that was minimal as the navi swerved, backing away from his foe for an instant before letting one of his hands glow with an easy flame, not the kind the Normal Seraphim might conjure, but a blazing fire that most sane people would come within 10 feet of, feel the heat, and back away from. The fire didn't seem to have inimical effect on Seraphim, as the conjunction went from fire in hand to fire in body, 'Seraphim' brought his hand out slowly, then made a quick diagonal chop to his right, sending out a burst of flames to try destroy the attackers prematurely.

"You li'l bastards don't want to give up, do you?" The navi asked casually, not expecting an answer as he whipped out a hand, conjuring a triple blast of fire once more and releasing it with a definite vindictive sadism that Erin winced at. Billowing flames filled the PET screen for a brief moment, then quickly faded. Seraphim stood in a maelstrom of energy, furious clouds of smoke racing away from the firestorm as the navi unleashed the frenzied blaze he had pent up.

With a large pop, and crackling, Seraphim noticed the metal terrain was actually slightly blazing as he holstered his fist, pretending he had just won a gun-dueor something as he riveted himself in place, gathering energy in his palm.

"Get over here!" he roared, his voice seeming amplified as the electrical energy dragged at the virus, trying to pull it toward him as the navi readied his fist with the power of opposite attraction.

Seraphim beats down the strongest of the remaining enemies, using the power of the metalic flooring to give him the strength needed to break through its defenses and to power up the attack at the same time. He then channels his firesword's power into his fists and proceeds to wail on them, the heat conducting flooring once again increasing his attack strength and allowing him to take out the trio in a single go. It looks like that UFO wont be getting away with Seraphim's chip afterall.

Seraphim walks further on, and it starts to get hot, REALLY hot. There's like steam and heat waves and shit everywhere. He soon comes to an area where lava terrain is scattered about, viruses native to the area prowl about, but they seem a bit... different? They all seem a bit "dragon-like" possibly.

-BATTLE 18-
-FIGHT IT OUT!-
"I thought-..." Seraphim trailed off as he looked at the newest oncomers. They were far more powerful than the ones before, they were too bulky to be taken out by elec-blasts or even a Fire Blade. He would have to concentrate his attacks. He pulled on his collar slightly. "Erin, is it getting kinda hot?" He asked, staring around him at the panels made of actual lava.

"I would suppose so, Seraph." She sighed. She prepared the chips, then waited for his objections as she prompted the skills she'd selected.

"I really shouldn't use fire-element spells, they probably have elemental absorb versus fire, or immunity to the element itself," Seraphim said as he glanced at the viruses, "So I think I should switch to- do I have any water spells? That lava looks pretty hot." Seraphim sweated a bit, wiping a bit off onto the glove as he grimaced. This heat-- It was making the ground shimmer, the ground would be sizzling if it wasn't made from... whatever panels were made from.

"Er, no, I don't think you have water spells available yet, Seraphim. They must uh, come later in the game." Erin said plainly and rather embarassedly for the lie. "You'll get it later, after the next boss, I bet." She vowed not to remind her navi if he did manage to remember, but if the next 'boss' as she had said, did happen to be waterx she'd have no choice. She gulped slightly, and looked at the panels around her navi. At least it didn't look like the forboding viruses and panels represented some sort of cliche'd kraken boss or something. Maybe a dragon, but definitely nothing water.

"Oh. Okay." He counted off the spells he now had ready to fire off as he assessed his options. He could uh- not do a whole lot. He couldn't definitely do a one turn sweep, they were all too tanky to do that, unfortunately. He counted on his free hand, his gun-mesh-sword in the other.

"Right!" He announced to the viruses, and pointed his gun at the sky. He pulled the trigger once, clicked back the hammer, and tugged it again. There was no recoil, and there was only a 'phoomph' to note the firing of the weapon. Seraphim raised an eyebrow. Maybe something was wrong with the gunpowder? He shrugged, flipping out the barrel and checking. It was somewhat--- risky to do so, but fortunately there was only the casing of the two bullets that had fired. He emptied the casings to the ground with a clatter and raised an eyebrow. No effect had taken place yet.

In the loading of the next series of bullets, the effect came down with a smash quite literally. Lightning broke down from the sky in a storm with no clouds. The thunder came after the light, usually preceding the end of the world... but it seemed for Seraphim, it would make an exception. Especially since the sound was concentrated in his area. The navi dropped his weapon, letting the shots clatter to the ground as he clapped his gauntlets to his ears. Then another outcry because the gauntlets had hurt his ears. There was an audible sigh from Erin as Seraphim blinked, then hurriedly scrambled to gather his weapon and ammunition together. The navi finally got the constantly moving ammunition together and decided the windbox was his next target. Sure, it made his hair and what armor he had left blow dramatically... But it was an annoyance, and sand was starting to get in his eyes. Maybe he would get one of his own some time. That however, was an argument for another time as the navi aimed for the foe.

This time, there was an audible blast, like a ruler being smacked onto a desk. Red bursts splattered from the gun as if a spray can were being utilized in paint, sending spiraling, curving lasers at randomly selected foes. They cut straight through the wind as they blurred through the air. Seraphim stumbled back, but was already preparing his next shot as he flusteredly selected another attack to use.

"Seraphim, are you sure... you want to do that?" Erin asked, frowning slightly.

"Oh right, it's my last hit in the combo, can't do that right now." Seraphim nodded knowingly, then sighted one of the viruses, flipping the barrel at random before firing.

"Roulette Burster!"

The viruses charge first, the whole group of Champus teleporting in front of Seraphim and roaring draconically, swinging their flaming dragonhead shaped fists at the protagonist, before he leaps away, and falls flat on his face, dodging the blows.
Thunder roars and lightning crackles as the Champu team is shocked to near cinders while Seraphim unloads some laser beams at them, the recoil dealing some damage to himself, then a highly accurate MarkCannon blast. He cringes as his feet burn under him, looks like he landed in some hot lava.
The Gunners come next, one opening the dragonhead turret he's sitting on and letting loose a powerful stream of flame at Seraphim, who worms out of the way, landing on a normal panel. A remotebit then hovers over Seraphim, launched by a Twisty, and slams down lightning on the warrior. Guess what comes around, goes around, huh?

Navis are usually programmed to use their muscles through proper contraction and relaxations, much as humans do. Thus when the lightning hit Seraphim... he toppled to the ground, twitching all the way. The navi's motor functions shorted out before slowly reestablishing themselves. Seraphim blacked out for the split second as his muscles convulsed, throwing him into a frenzied seizure.

"Buhrgharlagh!" were the words he wheezed out as he tried to sit up. That certainly wasn't very pleasant, thought Erin as she placed a single chip in the slot. Thinking better of it, she withdrew her hand and 'refreshed' Seraphim by pressing F5 on her PET's console. The graphics of her navi rerezzed, and solidified as a wireframe flashed slightly. The wireframe faded, and Seraphim opened his eyes as he shook his head.

"Urgh, thanks for the Cure!" He announced, as Erin slipped the chip in, nodding her head slightly. She wondered what he would do with it. She had worked out a strategy but as usual, her navi had his own ideas. Coincidentally, her strategy coincided with Seraphim's. Seraphim licked his lips as he dropped his gun-mesh-sword. He didn't have a doubt that they'd still shoot him, but they might at least hesitate for him to get off his strategy.

"You think you can electrocute the great Seraphim?" He asked, giving a little toss of his head. He meant to slightly throw them off track as his hand crept behind him and drew out his oversized sword in an instant. It would have to serve to parry the shots. It was certainly big enough, anyway.

"Magnet Harpoon!" He yelled, letting go of the sword. A small nimbus surrounded his hand, connecting to the sword as it flew off at the wind-box-thingie. Seraphim stood his ground as he looked nervously at all the other viruses. If an onlooker had seen the rather uncomfortable situation, and had not decided to keep on walking very quickly... they would probably comment on how Seraphim looked like he was trying to waterski on dry land. The navi's unconventional position was to his advantage as the cable suddenly started retracting... and dragging something in. The navi closed his eyes, digging in his boots and bracing for impact. The moment of doom sent Seraphim sprawling. The sword was stuck in... whatever it had stuck into. It had suddenly gotten very dusty. Seraphim gripped the hilt of the sword, and grinned.

"This always works!" He exclaimed, as he channeled his magic through the hilt. It was as if Seraphim had taken the lightning that had stuck him and channeled it into the thing before him. He grinned, as the electricity flowed through the weapon, not coming his way this time.

With 'Seraphim Logic' hotwiring was a simple procedure, and involved a trial and error platform. All one had to do was connect the dots to change the alliance of the machine, thus converting it to his side. If it was an NPC, all he had to do was build up his friendship points-- or learn a charm skill with concentrate to improve his accuracy with it. However, it was also a tricky procedure wherein if he failed... he would set off multiple alarms he would have to run to silence. Failure to do so would cause multiple monsters to rush his way, complimented by an increased encounter rate. Seraphim was very careful not to set off any alarms as he sent thousands of volts into the-... Okay, not very careful at all. If it worked, it might 'confuse' the machine or at worst, burn it out. At best it would turn it to his side and overcharge it. It was sort of like playing tic-tac-toe with a fusion cannon at point blank range. None of these concerns crossed the navi's mind as he provided the strange electroshock therapy, however.

Seraphim peeked up above his cover, and then immediately ducked back down. They hadn't stopped looking for him because he had gotten into dark shadows yet. Dang. He slowly reached for his gun-mesh-sword, picking it up from where he had dropped it. Ever so steadily, he loaded it. That lightning had hurt- and he remembered exactly where it had come from. Erin slid two chips in, and Seraphim nodded at his spell selection. The navi flicked back the hammer and took a peek out of his cover. The bullet could aim itself... but he felt responsible for sending it in the direction of the target. It was a petty vengeance, but he felt he deserved it after being struck by lightning.

"Lock on! Precise Shot!" He yelled, quickly moving from his shelter to peek out and properly fire in the general direction of the enemy. One shot fired, then he flipped to the next barrel by pulling back the hammer, firing once, twice, in procession. The shots were as if fired from a railgun. Besides the smoke and the pulled trigger, there was no noise to signal that they had even left the barrel. Only the huge boom and the destroyed target would tell. He pulled the hammer back slowly.

This one...

Would require some effort.

Seraphim put his back to the obstruction, his cover. He held the gun in his lap, concentrating. His fingers danced on the flat of one of the blades nervously. The other hand rested firmly on the barrel. He clenched his jaw, and let blue fire surround his hand. He pumped the energy into the barrel, letting it flow into the bullet now ready for firing. It held. He pumped in more. The cylinder began jittering. He pushed in more magic. All the metal on the weapon began shaking. He tightened his grip, silencing it. He placed both hands on it, pushing it down. Forcing more magic in. More. Seraphim's arms began jerking near-spasmodaically as he struggled to control his weapon's movements. Then, there was a startling halt of the thrashing. All that was unusual (besides Seraphim, and his weapon...) was the light shining forth from the cylinder of the gun-mesh sword. It was an attempt to shunt off energy. The weapon grew hotter as Seraphim raised it. He tilted to the side, peeked out, pointed, --- and fired.

"Harmonic Su-"

Boom.

The recoil sent the weapon flying out of his hand, near hitting his head and splitting it in two. It kept on flying, eventually smacking into the ground blade first about fifty feet away. It quivered before slowly ceasing movement. Seraphim would have been blinded by the blast if he had not closed his eyes. As it was, he merely had a severe case of kaleidoscopic dots in his eyes, a painful burning in of the light that refused to leave as he shut his eyes tightly and shook his head.

Only one question remained.

Did it work?

Seraphim and the box have a tug of war as Seraphim attempts to drag it in while it does all it can to blow itself away from him. Steadily, though, Seraphim pulls it in with his line and makes contact with it. Not liking the proximity, the box shoots out flames, though luckily the stun Seraphim delivered manages stall the virus enough to give him the chance to flip the box around and miss getting fried alive at point blank range. The navi then starts taking pot shots at the enemy forces from behind his cover, partially damaging one Twisty while severely hurting another. He then finishes the two off using a powerful technique from his gun. Unfortunately, he took some damage as well and made his footing a bit shaky. He also creates a bit of glass paneling just a bit in front of him, between himself and the enemies. Whether this would help him out or harm him in the long run, though, was yet uncertain. The enemy viruses then start attacking, the first Gunner firing wildly though missing Seraphim completely. His exact location seems to be hidden by the windbox in front of him. The other two, getting mad, begin firing madly at their supposed ally, each nailing it with two full rounds of shots, though not quite getting rid of Seraphim's cover. The lead gunner then, in frustration, begins pumping the box full of bullets with an intense fury. The virus finally dies, leaving Seraphim open. A handy then appears in front of him and drops a bomb directly in front of Seraphim, daring him to try making a move, before dodging wildly accross the field in a graceless retreat. Seraphim then seems to get a bit of a second wind, his health replenishing a decent amount.

"Erin, there's uh, something here. I think it's ticking down." Seraphim's statement brought a flurry of movement from Erin, mostly by her mouth.

"What do you mean, ticking down?" Erin said as she flicked to the screen Seraphim was on, scooping up a couple chips as she stared closely at the strange device. It appeared to be a timer, ticking down ever so slowly. Judging from the bulk of it, it was probably a bomb. Not good. She hurried up her slotting in of the chips, slightly panicked.

"Er, it's at two. It doesn't look like it's going down any further, though." Seraphim stated, slightly confused.

"Well, don't waste your time exploding it, we have to finish the rest of the viruses. If we can stop combat routine, uh- the bomb will obviously disappear, right?" She stated, hoping Seraph would comply.

"Oh, right! That works too! Bombs have notoriously low speed too, so it shouldn't be a problem!" Seraphim said, pounding one hand into the other which was probably a bad idea, equivalent to pistol-whipping his palm. Fortunately, the glove prevented most of the impact as the navi didn't even seem to notice as he swiveled, then leapt up on top of the bomb, bowing at the gunners mockingly. After all, they couldn't even move.

However, Seraphim remembered, they could fire quite effectively. The navi tentatively fell forward, throwing forward a gauntleted hand to arrest his descent, then perform a cartwheel as a strange evasive maneuver. He landed back on his feet and continued racing forward, ready for the opponents every action.

"What is it with you weird dragon-things anyway?" Seraphim questioned as he ran forward. He looked at the gunner monsters, whipping the gun-mesh-sword to the side as it began to glow, magical energy being channeled rapidly through it somewhat like a chainsaw. He brought it to bear with two hands, slicing at all three foes with a flurry of blows.

"Rolling Slicer!" He yelled, then turned to the final virus, hoping for the explosion at his back to intimidate the poor Handy monster. He stared at it slowly, lowering his gun. He brought it to his side cautiously, carefully... It had planted the bomb. This was the last one. But with things like 'beast' viruses, could there be more? He questioned himself cautiously, but discarded the issue for now. This could be part of his main quest, but he could ask the 'King' about those issues. 'Some-Police' or something Erin called them. Obviously incompetent without him. He'd have to go help them out some time.

"Heeyah! He stabbed at the virus from further away than necessary, initiating a stream of magic like before, possibly a way of paralyzing the thing, but more like a death trap, as demonstrated by the poor Windbox that had served as his shield. Seraphim ripped the cord of electromagnetic force backward, pulling at it and giving him enough slack for- He swung the bladed gun diagonally. From overhead right to left, hauling in the line at the same time with all his might, dragging whatever he had hit closer in an attempt to end this once and for all.

Seraphim runs forward and slashes all three Gunners in a single movement. However, the next hit is a bit more shallow, leaving on alive. He then manages to damage and stun the Handy before punching out the last BeastGunner. The last virus takes a moment to shake off its stun, then attempts to torch Seraphim with a firey blast from its palm, though it misses the navi.
