Unfinished Business

Musou holds out his arms, cheering as he flies through the data stream. A quick adjustment here and there and he spirals into a barrel roll. Hands down against his sides and feet strait makes him shoot even faster. Kenji looks on with a pang of jealousy but gives his navi a grin anyway. All too soon however, Musou has to divert himself off the superhighway of the net before coming into the local ACDC feed. His travel speed slows and slows as he finally drifts downward and touches down in the general area he was back before when he and Rook were working on that data-retrieval mission for Mr Chessman.

If the navi had any regrets so far in his relatively short busting career, it would be that he wasn't able to finish that mission. Some strange things had happened on what should have been a simple retrieval of a data packet. Some strange navi with knives, ice knives he thinks, had ambushed the courrier and contacted one of his associates to discuss terms of handing it back. Rook had wanted to just burn them all and let 'the creator' sort them out, he was sure. Musou wasn't happy to be on some sort of go-fetch mission to an ambush-laden warehouse for the scum but they had the data so for the time being at least, they had the power.

The navi stretches a bit as he looks around him to get his bearings. He was more or less in the right area, he thought. Sure he was a navi, and was supossed to be super good at navigating the net, but he preferred the fighting, exploring and adventure as a whole. He hopped up and down a couple times on the balls of his feet before giving himself a couple playfull wake-up slaps to his cheeks. Time to rock!

[Requesting this mission get back under way, good sir Asator]
Sure enough, Musou was in the right area, and before too long the warehouse was clearly visible again, looking just as run-down as it had been before. This time though, the viruses holed up inside had apparently been busy, and the gaping holes and open doorways that had been so easy to walk into before were now barricaded with scrap metal and junk data. Well, all except for one hole in the roof that had still been left open for flying viruses to go in and out of. In fact, one group was flying out right now.

One of the flying group spotted Musou as it left the building and screeched to the others. The flying viruses took a battle formation and swooped down to engage Musou. As they did, he could notice that, while they were clearly Fishys and Pulsebats, they had all been enhanced in some way. The Pulsebats' wings had metal joints, and the Fishys were sporting rocket boosters and moving considerably faster than normal members of their species.

Upon encountering the guards, Musou scratches the bank of his head and comments in amazement "Huh. Bionic Bats and cyborg Fishy". Kenji shrugs as he slides a couple chips into the PET. He says "Yeah, looks like your not the only on who got upgraded. Just be careful".

Musou takes a fighting stance as he focuses his mind and draws ambient energy and data to himself, forming a durable shield. Best to be cautious against these strange turbocharged troublemakers, he figures. Kenji mumbles "Hmm. I wonder". His navi prepares as chip data fills his mind. "Sup, Sensei?", he asks. Kenji squints as he says "I know we are on a task and everything, but it's not exactly for the best employer. Aren't we invading? We're the aggressors this time, they are just defending their home". Musou bites his lip and says "Can't have doubt. Road to defeat, and all that right? Besides this looks more like a virus-upgrading fortress. Theres probably an army inside or one in the making".

As Musou clenches his fists, channeling power to one hand, Kenji mumbles "That will have to do for now, I guess". The martial-arts navi reached out in front of him and the stored energy quickly gathered into a rod with a glowing red gem at the top. Musou grinned, he hadn't used this one in awhile. His last several fights he always had something to protect nearby but this time collateral damage would be a bonus. Hopefully the fortress got pelted by the meteors that missed. These boosted viruses looked pretty quick, after all. He dropped it to the ground, only for the rod to float upright and begin summoning fire from the sky.

Meanwhile, as the team realizes the flyers have yet to head into high altitude, as they tend to, so Kenji quickly slides in another chip. Musou raises the former wand-making hand and discharges a hailstorm of golden energy at the lot of them.

Musou put up a shield almost immediately upon seeing the upgraded viruses turn for him, and just in time at that. No sooner had the shield formed that the fishys ripped past, charging into Musou one after the other. Even after three poorly named viruses slammed into it at supersonic speeds, however, the shield held.

Musou countered by setting up a rod to summon a rain of meteors on the viruses, then opened fire with an impressive but erratic salvo of energy blasts. Though he tried to target one of the PulseBats, only three shots hit while two more hit the other PulseBat and the rest missed altogether. The less damaged bat managed to get off a sonic blast which finished off Musou's shield before meteors dropped on both of them. The attacking bat survived, saved by the reinforced body and wings it now sported, while the other was deleted.

A third meteor fell toward the Fishy group, targeting the leader, but missed. Meanwhile all three of them swung around for another pass.

"M-Musou! Jeez are you alright?!", Ken called out after his navi got hammered again and again in almost the blink of an eye. Shields down but otherwise alright, at least untill the next fly-by attack, the navi gave a thumbs-up.

Kenji breathed a sigh of relief and started passing the battle chips, this was only the first fight in this new place and he was already seeing super bionic baddies. As far as Musou was concerned, his shield dropped too fast and some stalling was in order. In fairly rapid succession, the navi both builds energy and throws the golden shot at the remaining pulsebat, ideally there would be something behind the virus to benifit from the splash, but for now, meh.

Hopefully that would take care of the bat, and as for the turbo-charged Fishy, he's got an idea. "Sensei, rageclaw please", the navi said. Kenji was a bit confused, it seemed Musou had lots of better things to pick from but he wasn't the one in with his neck on the line so Rageclaw it is.

As his hands converted into wicked foot-long talons, Musou crouched and waited for the Fishys, prepared to evade their dive upon him, get above them and hitch a ride on one via claws. He had a teleport move now, afterall, this wasn't a completely horrible idea. Or so he would like to think.

The Pulsebat's reinforced body didn't last it very long, as Musou quickly followed up his earlier attacks with one that finished it off, leaving only the Fishys.

They charged as soon as they finished turning back toward him, but this time Musou was ready and jumped out of the way of the leader's charge. With foot-long claws, he grappled the Fishy leader and attempted to hitch a ride. For one part, he succeeded, as the claws allowed him to hang onto the speeding virus.

As it turns out, however, Fishy viruses do not like getting impaled with foot-long claws. The leader of the virus squadron immediately tried to shake him off, and when that didn't work changed course directly toward the warehouse Musou was trying to infiltrate, smashing him against the edge of one of the larger remaining holes to shake him off. The wall crumbled, widening the hole even more, and Musou was thrown off, landing roughly in the room within.

That was one way to get inside, at least.

To add insult to injury, Musou's talons had snapped off on impact, breaking his Rageclaw and leaving it embedded in the Fishy leader.

The new room was in a more advanced state of disrepair than the walls around it, with several pits and almost-pits scattered around all but the edges of the room, and a particularly deep one in the far corner. The hole torn in the wall was large and now low enough that he could go back outside, but the Fishys had followed him into the warehouse.

Groaning as the dust clears, the navi tries to get his bearings. "Ugh what hit me? Feels like I tore down a wall with my head", he grumbles. He looks back to the other side of the room and the rubble strewn about and realizes he's now inside the warehouse. Oh and that he did pretty much break through with his head.

Despite his concern, Kenji can't help but crack a smile as he says "Nice job Mario-San. What chips you want?".

The navi snorts a quick chuckle as he notices the bionic Fishys seem to have followed him. He takes his fighting stance again and quickly looks them over. Still in formation, no more rageclaws. This fight hasn't been on long but he is burning through chips fast, what to do?

"Oh hey, remember that chip I found as a prize in that cereal this morning? Wanna try it out?", Kenji suddenly asks.

Musou takes a second look at the Fishy's formation and grins. If this hits, it will be good. "Sounds good, Sensei. Pass the FireHit too".

As chip data fills his mind, Musou builds energy up in his body and it flows quickly to his hands. He raises both hands and holds one open palm over the other and a golden ball of energy forms in front of them. Barely a moment later the ball explodes in the direction of the Fishys, aimed for the leader and pulsing rapidly with a pair of orbiting charges to add a couple extra blasts.

The navi has a bit of a deadpan expression however, as he realises that hit or miss, that Vulcan chip just didn't pack anywhere near the kind of power he was used to. Oh well, next time it would need a bit of boosting, if that would even save it.

He takes his fighting stance again and as more chip data enters his mind, he throws an uppercut into the air in the direction of one of the supporting Fishys, and the motion sends a blazing uppercut of fire at the virus, shadowing his movements. He resets his stance and spins around as he sends a kick towards the other, and a mid-level flaming attack follows, flying at the other virus!

As the Fishys prepared for another pass, Musou unloaded on them with a series of rapidfire charges that struck the leader and one of its wingman as it fell into line behind it. He then sent flaming fists at the two wingmen, heavily damaging them but only deleting one, leaving the remaining viruses wide open to dive-bomb him again. Fortunately for Musou, they never got a chance, as they were finally intercepted by falling meteors, which finished them off and left a big pile of data to sift through for rewards.

From the room where Musou had landed, there were two exits in adjacent corners of the room from where he had landed. Both were close enough to the outer wall that he was in no danger of falling into a pit by going through one of them, but getting there may be a different story.
Musou blinks and stares for a moment, unable to beleive his luck. Well, not after missing like crazy the rest of the time anyway.

"Um Musou, might want to move.. Your standing on-", Kenji starts. His navi blinks again and looks down, realising that the ground he is on is in danger of falling appart at any moment. He looks up at the floor before him, quickly trying to formulate a path.

Musou quickly runs from panel to panel, not staying too long on any of the cracked ones, and when possible, skipping them altogether by hopping onto a nearby unharmed one. Finally he makes his way to the site of the Fishys' demise, and scoops up his rewards!

As the chip data and zenni pass back to his PET, Kenji slides in a blank chip and watches it transfer over. Finally the newly-copied chip slides out and he looks it over.. "Another Pulsar, not bad Musou", the boy comments.

As Musou tries to make it over panels without falling into holes he says, in between jumps and dashes "Always"... "Nice to have".. *hup* "more"... "Firepower".

Musou prefers to rely upon his own abilities and reflexes to get through this place, but all the same isn't shy about using his new ability to teleport to get through here if it looks like hes going to fall to his death. Even if it means not having it for a couple combat rounds in the next fight.

[Tries to make way to one of the exits and proceed]
Musou runs toward one of the exits, and soon finds himself in a familiar room. He was back in the lobby area of the warehouse, where he had previously ended his attempt to raid it. There were now two barricades though: one over the ends of a metal walkway that had led to the entrance of the building from outside. This was probably not the way Musou wanted to go, at least until he was ready to leave. The other was still more or less the same from when he was last here: blocking the doorway opposite the entrance and held together out of the same random scattering of materials as before.

The large pit that had been in the center of the room before was now patched up, with the panels that had originally made up the adjustable floor ripped off their hydraulic arms and braced against a grid of steel supports that still didn't look quite stable. And one more open doorway stood across from Musou, with nothing blocking it.

Musou could hear noises from beyond the right barricade, sounding like the slow hiss of hydraulic machinery and, occasionally, something rather large stomping around. But for the moment, he could see no enemies in the lobby itself.

Finally making his way into the lobby, the navi quickly takes in his surroundings. "S-So looks like we made it to the front door, Sensei", the navi says as he looks over the large barricades blocking his path. "Can't get in or out, and it all looks quiet here.. What should I do?", he asks.

"Patience, Musou. Look over the situation again. What do you see, what can you hear?", Kenji says, as sagely as the eleven year-old can.

The navi closes his eyes for a moment and takes a deep breath. He listens to the noises on the other side of the larger barricade for several moments, before opening his eyes once again and looking over the pillars and the walls.

"I could always knock one of these pillars over and see if I can get upstairs, I suppose", the navi thought aloud as he ran his hand up and down it.

"Uhh, Musou, knocking a pillar over might be a bad idea, if it brings the whole building down on you. We are on a retrieval mission, not demolition", Kenji says in a warning tone.

His impatience peeking through, Musou gives a shrug, and the navi says "Alright well what should I do? Go back the way I came? Meditate on the problem quietly? Maybe politely ask the viruses to stop making cyber buff soldiers?"

Not letting his navi's disrespect get to him, Kenji just says "All of those things, perhaps".

His navi scowls and looks over at the walls by the big, beefy barrier and clenches his fists as he heads to it. "Know what? Factories are usually made just to cover and hold the machines in them. Their walls and ceilings are usually skeletal. These barriers on the other hand are heavy, reinforced metal. Therefore-", the navi says in a lecturing tone as he rubs his free hand along the wall, before also making a fist of it as well.

Musou fills his body with power, flooding it to his fists as he rapidly gathers enough to power his blows. Though he doesn't often flaunt it, the melee-typed martial artist has a brutish strength behind his blows, and more than capable (and willing) to beat things down if the situation calls for it. Training and discipline normally blend with his strength to produce at least some grace and technique, but, well this was just a wall and he was out to prove a point.

Though his operator was against random acts of violence, he thought his navi might actually have a point. They would have to discuss the finer points of respect later but for now he would standby with chips and let him have his fun.

Musou charged his body with power, and, when nothing happened to stop him...ignored the blockage entirely to just punch through the wall. Amazingly it worked, smashing through the flimsy wall to allow him access to the room beyond.

Other than the remains of the wall and the other side of the barricade, said room beyond was surprisingly clear. The floor, a fairly expansive panel grid, was undamaged, although several scattered panels were slightly off-color for typical Normal panels. Another, un-barricaded doorway led out of the far side of the room, although other than at least one faintly glowing object within, it was impossible to tell what was inside. And standing in the way between Musou and this back room was...

...a single metool.

Well, not quite. It was a single metool, but like many of the panels its hardhat was slightly off-color than usual, looking more orange than a metool's typical yellow. Probably not anything of consequence though, right?

Musou stepped out from the broken wall and gave the room a quick look over... He wasn't really sure what to make of the single metool and the odd floor but, well it was just a metool right? "Sorry about the wall there. Unless you were being held prisoner or something, then your welcome", he said to the virus as he scratched the back of his head.

"Careful Musou, something's not right here. Keep your guard up", Kenji said as he tried to look over the room from his vantage point but couldn't see a whole lot more than his navi, with four walls, a ceiling and floor blowing his view.

"Got'cha, Sensei", the navi says simply as he resumes his fighting stance but still looks at the metool. He's no stranger to friendly viruses, as odd as the concept sounds, as thankfully his operator has drilled enough discipline into the martial artist to give him an open mind.

At any rate, yes he had punched a hole in the wall. Yes there was an off-colored metool sitting in a strange room in the middle of what appeared to be a fortified cyber-virus factory, but he wasn't going to be the one to throw the first punch in this case.

"Er.. I come in peace? I'm just looking for some special data and I can get out of your hair. Unless you need help with something?", the navi tries to parley.

His operator scratches his chin as he watches and waits. Taking down this factory would be doing a favor for everyone in the ACDC area, but.. Tearing the place down and wiping out it's populace would only display intolerable arrogance and perpetuate the distrust and hate viruses had for navis and vice-versa. He taught his navi to fight when he had to or to help, not to just get his jollies.

Well, yes they had begun their career fighting viruses just for the fun of it but that had all changed when they found the group of friendly viruses and explored the net ruins with them. They had hopes and dreams too!

The metool answered first in a gibbering viral language that was impossible for Musou to understand.

It then waited for several seconds for an answer before hopping once in place and causing a small, datapad-like device to materialize in front of it. The device lit up, projecting a holographic screen above it. Words then appeared on the screen as the metool spoke in its own viral language again, presumably translating what it was saying.

"We have claimed this location, and everything within it. You are not welcome here, navigator. Leave."

It seemed that the metool did not intend to let Musou find what he was looking for.

"Well damn. Now what?", both operator and navi thought at the same time at the metool's response. They needed no further information to know that at the very least, the metool in front of them was intelligent and seemed to possess it's own free will. The odds were if they fought it, and won, that the thing would be killed.

As far as Kenji was concerned, everything had a right to exist and someone who ended a life was just playing god. Fighting against what appeared to be mindless viruses of limitless numbers wasn't really a tough call, especially if they attacked first.

Musou too, had no problem taking down anything that attacked first, as 'self defense' was generally the only excuse he needed to fight.

At any rate, enough existentialist monologue.

Long story short, neither the navi or operator wanted to attack and they had even been told to leave, despite the damage they had already caused the place. But a mission was a mission. If Musou had to be the bad guy, an invader and a thief, he would be. He just needed the data and he could run.

The navi gave a short bow to the metool and said "Thank you for speaking with me. I am honored. But I have to retrieve that data. Please don't try to stop me".

He wasn't going to wait for a response and he wasn't going to talk any more. His decision had been made and to go back on it now would only invite further doubt (and tedious monologue). He decided that that door on the other side of the room had to lead to something, hopefully what he needed. He quickly gathered data and energy from the surrounding area and brought it into his body.

With an exhale and a push of the arms, joined with a "Ooousss" sound hissing from his lips to help the visualization, the absorbed data mingled with his energy to form a shield of semi-solid energy around him, enough to get him through he hoped.

The navi broke into a sprint alongside one of the walls, leaping over the discolored panels as best he could with his powerful leg muscles. He had no idea if they had any importance but he wasn't going to find out. He hadn't forgotten his experiences not so long ago with pop-up turrets and had no intention of engaging the metool or it's defenses. He just needed to get out of the room...

More words displayed themselves above the orange met as it spoke again. "I cannot allow you in there. If you do not leave now, I remove you myself."

The good news was that no pop-up turrets had shown themselves, and that the threatening party was still only a single metool.

Musou grumbles at the latest development. This just has to be hard, doesn't it? Unfortunately, he doesn't have any chips or abilities that can break panels, unless his break-enhanced buster counts, so that's all he can really do in this situation.

Clenching his fists, Musou quickly begins gathering power in his fists for the upcoming attack.

Given that he punched a hole through one wall already, it's likely obvious what he's up to. Hopefully his shield will deflect any attacks long enough to make this happen.

Musou didn't get a chance to punch through the panel barricade. The moment he started powering up his fists to break through, one of the panels swiveled on its mount, then swung forward to knock into Musou. His shield took the hit though, and it didn't actually do anything to disperse the charge he had built up. On the other hand, the sound of more panels moving behind him might be a cause for concern.

If Musou were to look back in response to the sound, he would have seen the panels in the center of the room pull away and the metool that had been standing in the middle of them sink under the floor. Seconds later, a much larger metool-like mechanical body emerged, walking on four spider-like legs. A cockpit shield designed like a gas mask with glowing eyes looked out from under the helmet, while vulcan guns and a shockwave generator folded out beneath and to either side of it and locked into position. The helmet itself was easily the width of at least three panels, and judging by the structure of the legs and folding weapon mounts, the metool-themed battlemech could still hide under it in emergencies. Though Musou could still probably have punched through the barricade, given time and the good fortune to not keep getting smacked around by it, the metool clearly intended to make good on its promise to remove him.

Both operator and navi blink in disbelief at the strange turn of events. Bionic viruses almost seem normal compared to the mechanized floor slapping him around and the Metool engineer in it's... Metool-zord. Mobile suit? "C-Could be worse, Musou. Could have been some kind of giant Metoolzilla", Kenji said.

The navi cleared his throat as he adjusted his fighting stance to face the new threat. "Sensei, please don't give that thing any more ideas". He might feel guilty about deleting a genius metool but the navi isn't above defending himself, or taking down the mech it's riding in. Well, he hopes anyway.

"No time for regrets Musou. Get in there, I'll pass you chips", the boy says as he quickly shuffles through his options and tries to keep calm as he works out what might be the best choices. His navi nods and gathers energy a moment, focusing on a new location, near the armored suit. To one side, in order to get to it's weapon systems, to be exact. Best try to cripple that thing now before the engineer figured out all his tricks.

Vanishing in a mere blip of energy, the navi appears without warning, beside the robotic menace, in mid-kick. Unless something in the area cuts off his energy flow, the teleport is absolute, but as for landing the kick.. Well he hoped he had surprise on his side, as technically he hadn't ever used this move before.

He felt chip data enter his mind and quickly adjusted his tactics to make the best of what he had been given. He certinally couldn't argue with their possible effectiveness. One of his hands begins to course with electricity as he clenches it into a fist and at this close proximity, throwing or firing the attack seemed pointless, so he attempts to deliver the electrical ring via a fast punch to the mech's side-mounted weapons.

Also hoping that all this surprise and shock would stun the thing long enough to deliver a powerfull attack, and also because it didn't look like it could dodge even if it wanted to, he activates the other chip. Holding his non-electrified hand out, palm forward, he yells out a "Keeeeyaaaahhhhh", as he releases a torrent of blasts at the thing, point-blank range.
