DenU Library Archives Network

An elevator dropped down from above the net and opened up, Red and Myun walking out ceremoniously before the elevator shot back up and disappeared.

"Basement 1, basement 1. Searching the area for anything interesting," Red announced, having some fun with her assumed role.

"Take your time," Shin replied, sitting down on a nearby sofa with a stack of books near him. He ordered some tea from the service and began reading.

"Very well," Red replied as she and Myun wandered around the deeper archive network.

Heading into the Archive section of the Dentech Library network, Red found herself surrounded with an abundance of dusty books and tomes, all stacked high in towering bookshelves. As the lights in the network started to brighten a bit, she found that she was on top of the bookshelves themselves. A few viruses were scurrying around, and didn't look too pleased to find this intruder. She'd better try not to upset the bookshelves under her, that drop didn't look very nice.

"I'll be right back," Red told Myun, patting her on the head as she was covered by a giant top hat.

"I got the list, you ready?" Shin inquired, before realizing his navi had entered a battle. "Ah great, I tell you to look for some books and this happens? Well, every network can't be that clean I guess."

Peeking up from the top of a bookshelf she had teleported to, Red slowly evaluated the viruses. "Well, the Brushman's there for a reason I guess. What do they do exactly?" Red wondered, curious.

"Uh.... I guess they clean panels or something? I can't really remember," Shin replied, squishing his lips thoughtfully before the service arrived with the tea he ordered. "It looks like the ground below you is cursed, though, how'd you get from being surrounded by books to being on top of bookshelves? That doesn't make sense," Shin mumbled, sipping his tea as he sent in some wide attack chips.

"Huh... I really do wonder how I got up here...." Red mused, climbing up the bookshelf and whipping out.... a crossbow? Well that was new. "Uh.... so...?"

"I think you can add some weight to the blow to ground those guys. It'd be cool if they land on the floor below," Shin commented, taking another sip of tea. "Just pull the trigger, it's weird but I think it'll be cooler than our previous methods."

"Okie doke! Here we go~" Red called in a sing-song tone, imbuing some disabling powers into the armament before pulling the trigger.

A flaming Phoenix burst out of the bow as the trigger was pulled, letting out a cry as it sailed toward the FighterPlanes, bearing the weight of Red's ability on them.

"Now what?" Red asked, discarding the crossbow.

"Move it," Shin suggested, and Red cartwheeled to the side.

Red started her attack with a feint, vanishing from sight beneath a massive top hat and reappearing behind the trio of viruses. The bookcase rocked slightly in response to the sudden weight, but settled within a few seconds. However, it was a warning to Red that her position wasn't as stable as it could be. The Navi steadied her aim with her crossbow, sighting down the length of wood toward the two airplanes circling the brush. Red squeezed the trigger, the string snapped forward and the arrow was loosed. As the arrow took flight, wings of flame spread wide and a fiery golden bird was unleashed.

One of the fighter planes managed to avoid the kamikaze strike, flying into a barrel roll that took it out of the phoenix's flight path. The second was not so lucky. The phoenix struck the plane and its flames writhed. Like living chains, the bands of fire wrapped around the planes propeller, halting the movement of the metal blades and causing the plane to plummet. It missed the side of a bookcase by mere inches and continued its fall to the cursed terrain fifteen feet below. The plane tried to retaliate, but it was unable to accommodate for the angle and its hail of gunfire ripped into the floor with little effect.

Meanwhile, the Brushman took the opportunity to splash a little paint toward Red's rabbit companion. The wooden bookcase beneath Myun shifted to metal and began to hum an energy of its own.

"Myun get out of there, that's going to definitely hamper your movements!" Shin called out. "Make your way to the BrushMan, see if you can lure it towards the right."

Myun nodded in response, using her natural reflexes to hop to the bookcase in front of her before making her way toward the Brushman with quick bounces from bookcase to bookcase, pulling back her left arm.

"Why'd you need the Brushman to move?" Red inquired as Shin sent down three more chips.

"Because Myun's a decoy. Use these to get a drop on it, literally," the self-proclaimed ace advised, taking another sip of tea.

"Hehe~ Gotcha~" the crimson crusader giggled, jerking her head toward the left, which was Myun's right, and the boxing bunny had pretty much reached her destination, sending a powerful left hook at the mop-wielding virus before attacking with her ears.

Of course this was to move the Brushman more towards Myun's left, where Red took any action of the Brushman moving to be her signal.

"Now!" Red grinned, warping above the Brushman's location and imbuing the Cannonball battlechip data into her hip. This, of course, made her about 80 times heavier than usual while she performed an amazing hip drop on the Brushman directly below her.

This of course, would pretty much shatter the bookcase she landed on. Myun took this instant to jump back to the bookcase behind her while Red utilized a previously downloaded Yo-Yo aimed directly at the currently airborne FighterPlane to avoid the fall.

"Wheeeee~" the fairy-tale fighter giggled as the buzzsaw plaything shot on toward the FighterPlane, aiming to latch onto it like a grappling hook and keep Red from falling to an untimely end. She felt a bit giddy, her sugar deposits clearly working their way around any injuries Red had received during this assault.

Myun sighed, shaking her head while Shin chuckled a bit, clearly having fun.

Myun managed to hop away from the humming metallic shelf, her back legs lifting her across a gap between the bookshelves to land closer to the Brushman. The bunny went in for the charge, delivering a wicked left hook toward the virus. The Brushman barely dodged the blow, circling to the left of the support program. The rabbit's ears kept the virus on the move, forcing into position with fierce smacks.

Red teleported above the virus, the Brushman unaware of the Navi's actions, and dropped. Her cannonball hip smashed into the virus and the bookshelf beneath, sending them both tumbling toward the cursed ground below. The virus vanished into a puff of data. The Navi attempted to halt her fall with a well placed Yo-Yo.

The bladed disc sliced into the side of the moving plane, allowing the cord to wrap around the virus and halt Red's decent. The Navi managed to land safely on a bookshelf before the Yo-Yo made its return, cutting another swathe from the virus in its wake. However, the landing left Red in a crouch with her back to the fighter plane. The virus retaliated with a full salvo of automatic gunfire. The Navi's hyperactive metabolism was able to restore some of her lost vitality, but Red had still taken a bit of damage.

"Whew~ That went better than expected," Shin commented, wiping off the sweat from his brow. It was really a dastardly plan that he had worked out, they took some damage, but nothing too serious.

"You're not the one receiving bullets in the back you know!?" Red reminded, pouting as she rubbed her back to soothe any lasting pain her sugar deposits hadn't fixed.

"Ah right, my bad. Well, I'll need you to knock down that other plane for the moment," Shin replied, scratching the back of his head sheepishly before sending in the other PhoenixShot.

"Geez, always about business first," the crimson crusader grumbled, closing one eye as she turned to face the airborne virus, whipping out another crossbow in the process. "Let's make sure this hits~" Red whistled, pulling the trigger while adding her grounding power to the shot as another magnificent phoenix burst out of the armament. Letting out a loud screech, the flaming apparition swooped in on the FighterPlane virus, making all efforts to definitely crash into it.

"I'll buy you something later," Shin promised, tapping his shoulders pensively while waiting to see what happened for the moment as he armed Red with a defensive chip.

"You promise~?" Red inquired, giving Shin the puppy dog eyes look.

"Yeah yeah, watch your back though," Shin advised, keeping a close eye on the situation as he drank some more tea.

Taking aim at the other plane, a fiery shot was released from Red's magically-obtained crossbow, hitting the plane square in the propeller and causing it to fall to the depths below! In response, however, its comrade got back up to speed, and flew up in an attempt to exact revenge on Red, raining on the red-caped girl with a barrage of lead. Fortunately for Red, she had put up her honeycomb barrier, and one of the shots got caught by it. However, another bullet shot by the defense and hit Red in the shoulder (30) before the BEEEEEEES went on a rampage against the attacker. "Ngh," Red winced, clutching her shoulder as one of the shots broke through. The bees soon took care of that nuisance, so she was left with the Fighterplane on the ground.

"Ok, easy pickings, but let's make it fun," Shin commented, taking a sip of tea before letting out a relaxed sigh. "Do it with a dropkick," the self-proclaimed ace advised, a dreamy expression on his face as he stared upwards with starry eyes.

"...I just used the Cannonball though," Red replied, tightening her lips and sweating nervously.

"Oh, right, but we can use the GutPunch! That should do plenty well for this attack," Shin proposed, still excited about the dropkick.

"...whatever you say," Red replied, shaking her head and sighing. She had to admit, this could be pretty fun.

"Ok, you have to jump, and do a somersault, before absolutely creaming it," Shin instructed, slotting in the GutPunch chip. His eyes were a sparkling a bit.

"Right. ...here's a question, why a dropkick?" Red questioned, a little nervous.

"Because it has impact!" Shin declared, clenching his fist.

We knew it, Red and Myun sighed, deadpanning.

"Alright then, here I go!" Red called, imbuing the power of the GutPunch chip into her right leg. Crouching down and evaluating the position of the FighterPlane, the crimson crusader narrowed her eyes before nodding her head and jumping into the air, letting out a yell while somersaulting mid-air and descending with her leg outstretched upon the FighterPlane.

"CYCLE CRASHER!" Shin shouted out loud, startling the people in the library around him, but his enthusiasm overrode any notice of such a thing.

"Woooohooo~!" Red cheered, stretching her arms as she looked around the bookshelves. "I'll take.... this one for now," the crimson crusader mused, picking out a dusty volume before tossing it into her picnic basket. Noticing something wrong, Red looked around before realizing Myun had yet to come down.

"What's wron- Oh..." the crimson crusader started, before evaluating the height level between her position and the top of the bookshelf. Pondering thoughtfully for a second, Red smiled and spread her arms wide. "Jump! I'll catch you!"

Myun, more reassured, nodded back before hopping up a few times.... then leaping toward Red's position. The red-caped wonder locked-on to her target before catching her precious pet in her arms, crouching down to reduce the shock. Blinking quietly at each other, the two giggled before setting themselves on the ground.

"Onward!" Red proclaimed cheerfully, marching forth with her support unit deeper into the recesses of the archive network while looking for anything interesting among the shelves.

Moving further through the archives, Red found the floor to be now without the Cursed infection, and was now walking with her support program on clean paneling. However, up ahead, they came across some mischief makers: a few viruses were vandalizing the bookshelves with their weaponry! Gloomers ripped through the books with their metallic headpieces, while Cateens aimed their powerful cannons at the stacks of archival data, laughing in their viral stutterings. They quickly noticed Red's presence in the middle of their act, and immediately sought to remove all traces of witnesses.

.... Out of the corner of Red's eye, she saw something emit a shine of green under the stacks of fallen books, which disappeared as fast as it appeared.

"Cripes!" Red yelped, seeing the viruses turn toward her, she made a dash behind a bookcase and crouched down, seeking cover before peering out at the viruses.

Myun, on the other hand, dashed straight for the tank viruses, pulling her fists back. It seemed like she wanted to take the first move.

"Wait! Myun! Come back here, we need to plan it out!" Red called back, waving frantically at her support program, who delivered a powerful punch at the first Canteen's side, hoping to knock it over for the moment. Strafing around the side of that Canteen, Myun threw a nasty backhand at the other Canteen's side, hoping to topple it over as well. In a feat on ingenuity, the boxing bunny slammed her ears into the floor, aiming to propel herself backwards in an evasive maneuver.

Red sighed and covered her face as this went on, but Shin had already relayed a plan to her. Receiving the chips, Red quietly peeked out from the side of the bookshelf before rolling a pair of dice toward the floor. The difference between these and normal dice, however, would soon become apparent. Instead of dots, these dice had different colored sides, 3 of them red, and 3 of them blue.

Upon landing on a color, each die expanded to 8 feet, prominently shaded in the landed color, and fired off the appropriate beam. What really happened was up to chance.

All Red could do now was wait, the signal was her own shade piercing through the enemies.

Red immediately sought cover behind a bookcase upon being sighted. Myun threw discretion to the wind and charged the Cateens trampling the books. The first one probably wasn't expecting a bunny to be much of a threat, but that changed when she threw a strong punch at the tank and toppled it on its side onto the books. The next one was aware of its impending punch and managed to avoid being knocked over.

The backhand did serve to turn the tank a bit, though. As Myun executed her evasive ground pound, the Cateen fired a powerful shell at her. Thankfully, the shot impacted at her previous location as her maneuver got her out of the way. There was no time to pursue the fleeing bunny as Red jumped from cover and tossed out a pair of dice. Both landed out in the open and turned a deep shade of red, growing larger and glowing brightly. They both shot off numerous red beams that passed through every enemy in an instant and dealt a fair bit of damage.

The light show did not impress the Gloomers, who were now bearing down on Red and Myun as the Cateens tried to reorient themselves.

"Nighty night~!" Red called out, a mischievous look in her eyes while she made a wide sweep with the Elecsword at both of the viruses before rolling forward and dashing behind another bookcase. Her inner systems started up repairing most of the previous battle's damage for the moment.

"Ah~ That was fun, what's next?" Red inquired, twirling her sword playfully.

The Gloomer who was slowly creeping up to Myun jumped off from the shelve top and landed right in front of the SP, firing the same after-image boomerang and landed not one, but three hits. The last virus turned towards Red, who was hiding behind one of the bookshelves, and fired an arcing boomerang that managed to hit the navi from the side and the bookshelf at the same time. "...." Red grumbled, clearly displeased about books slamming into her head from above.

"Uhhh...." Shin started, before Red threw him a glare. The ace gulped, twirling two chips into the PeT as a defensive reflex, then grinning. "Go get 'em"

"With pleasure," Red growled, malice lacing her every word as she warped above one Gloomer, imbuing the Cannonball data into her body as she performed the same devastating hip drop she did a while back, this time with a lot more harmful intent than before, eyes glaring red before crashing down at the Gloomer.

In the meanwhile, Myun shrugged off the hits from the Gloomer and dived directly under and positioned herself behind the virus. Smirking, Myun put up her dukes before attacking the virus with a powerful right hook, swerving around to her left, and whacking a mighty backhand at the Boomerang launching virus, leaving no survivors, or so she hoped. The rabbit's muscle fibers went to work restoring the damage she had taken from the afterimage boomerang, and so she waited.

As the smoke cleared from Red's assault on the previous Gloomer, only a large tophat remained in the position the crimson crusader was originally in. The hat lifted to reveal...

...that Red was right behind the remaining virus, eyes shining bright as she brought back her Elecsword, delivering a vicious sweep of her blade at the Gloomer, hoping to end it all. It seemed she was really on a rush today, so her systems worked just as hard to repair her wounds.

....Figuring it might be over, Red remembered that green glow she saw underneath the scattered books from before, so she made her way there and tossed away books left and right to figure out the source of the glow.

Teleporting out of the way of the Gloomers' attack range, Red unleashed hell on the projectile fighters, crushing one of them with a cannonball drop. The other two fell into disarray, seeing that they were about to be decimated. Launching their attacks haphazardly, they fired all over the place, threatening to knock down the bookshelves. However, the sturdy wooden structures stayed solid, and the slaughter continued without interruption. Myun, on the other hand, went for solid slugging power, and the Gloomer in front of the rabbit was sufficiently beaten to a pulp. The SP did receive some damage from her recklessness, but the tough muscle fibers made sure some of that damage didn't last. (15)

From under the scattered books, Red unearthed a shining diamond, revealed to be a Green Mystery Data. In her hands, the data slowly decoded itself into reward data...

Moving further into the archives, Red happened upon another strange sight: a corridor of the network had been overtaken by a rather huge tree. The tree's trunk was almost blocking the entirety of the passageway, with the branches inhabiting the bookshelves at the sides. The tree wasn't without inhabitants, as well; viruses had taken up residence. A couple of beehives hung from a couple of the thicker branches, and two apples sat behind the hives. At the base, a large spider scuttled around the roots, finishing up its web.
