Bloodsong: The Heroes

Wren's arrow goes wide of his target, and everyone looks around wildly for its source.

Everyone except the three Orcs that suddenly jump out of the bushes, weapons bared.

"They're back!" Screams one of the Humans in the squad, drawing his sword.

Wren cursed slightly his bolt went wide of the target. It seems that it was destined for things other than the heart of an orc.

He quickly placed his crossbow on the ground then drew a dagger, may Fharlanghn guide this attack to a different end then the last. He threw it from within his concealment, praying that it would find the orc dead. His prayers were answered as the attack hit home, the tiny blade plunging into his chest.

Hopefully his companions would aid him now that the fight had started, though they might not know what dangers they were facing.

[Summary: Draw knife and ranged sneak attack against orc warrior to my SW, continue trying to remain hidden if possible]
Thunk! Wren's dagger buries itself to the hilt in the Orcish warrior's leather armor [9 damage.] Sorry! I re-rolled and didn't realize I already had.
Surprise attack!? thought Maya as she turned around to look at any incoming dangers. She quickly noticed the green abominations of nature coming into sight and took her bow into her hand that was hanging from the quiver she had on her back.

She also drew one of her arrows from the quiver while lining it on her bow as she put force on the string to eventually propel the arrow towards it enemy. I'm keeping you in my eye... she thought as she locked her eyes upon her target, knowing that he might attack her out of frustration if her attack would hit succesfully. Eventually she let go of her right hand as the arrow began its flight towards the orc at the receiving end.

(( Dodge Feat -> Southern Orc Warrior. Draw bow, shoot arrow at Orc Warrior South of Maya. +4 Dex, +3 BAB, 1d6 damage, 20x3, pierce, 110 ft.))

Maya's arrow flies true and sticks in the Orc's shoulder. [5 damage]

With an ear-piercing battlecry, he charges Maya. She sidesteps to minimize the damage, but her armor isn't enough to stop the blade from cutting a gash. [6 damage.]

The rest of the Orcs advance, encouraged by the warcry. (Wren's target fails to recognize the source of the arrow). The Humans raise their spears, and one of the Orcs comes too close, and is cut in the arm as he tries to protect his vitals. [5 damage to westernmost Orc]
[Lol, lag. >>]

"Hrmmm. Somehooow, ay waaas expectiiing somethiiing liiike thiiis to haaappen." The druid, Marquez, looked down at the wolf beside her. Fish's hackles were all the way up, and he was in full snarl at both the human soldiers and the orcs who had come crashing out of the trees. She had heard the latter blundering about in the forest; they weren't exactly masters of stealth. But as she saw the arrow thunk into the single soldier that had approached them in a peaceful manner, she realized that these orcs were being just a little more careful than they usually were.

"All riiiight, Fiiish, iiit's tiiime to gooo," she told the wolf. She started through the forest, finally stopping and reaching for one of her swords when the orc appeared in front of her. The blade flashed out of its hide sheath like a flash of a wizard's silver flame, slicing toward the orc.

[Marquez: take 5-foot step to east, 5-foot step southeast, to move into space south of orc. Melee attack +2 (+2 melee attack), (1d6+2 damage)]

Marquez whirls and strikes, cutting an unsuspecting Orc across the back. 4 damage.

The second soldier from the left (west) shouts, "Get inside the walls! We'll handle this!" As he draws a small crossbow and draws a bead on on Wren's target Orc. He takes his time aiming at the Orc who's partially obscured by his ally (the one with the spear), and misses by a mile.

The soldier on the east flank draws his spear, stepping back slightly to avoid being cut by the charging Orc. The Orc misses, the soldier strikes, and pierces his target's armor easily. [5 damage.]
"Ah, some fun has arrived in the vicinity!" The Firey maniac, Marroar looks to the orc infront of the small halfing. " You have two reasons why you shouldn't try to thread this forest" the elf says in a cocky attitude as he has the index and pointing fingers enlongate from his right and left hand. He then points them thogether towards the Orc warrior. An oval orb in a spiraling purple color appears from each of his fingers and shoot in an instant, spiraling past the short halfing, towards the warrior.

[Marroar: Looks towards the south and casts two Magic Missiles towards the Orc Warrior for 1d4+1]

The Magic Missiles fly true, past Maya, and simultaneously connect with the Orc, who screams, trips, and falls on his face in front of Maya. [10 damage.]
"Orcs!" Ilianna was briefly taken aback. It was the middle of the day! All knew that the squinty eyed brutes abhored the daylight, that the cowards always preferred to strike by ambush in the dead of night where their light-sensitive eyes could see unmolested. Was that simply the orcs in her lands? Or were these beasts confident enough to strike even with that disadvantage?

As the battle exploded into violence, the half-elf felt her eyes drawn to the body of the guardsman. Damnable pigmen! No better than goblin kin! But this was not something she was entirely unused to. The Orc raided those homes under her protection as well, and while the spilled blood of men was always disheartening, enraging, she had a duty to not strike out at the enemies, not when a greater duty was presented. In war, there is always more than simply numbers and technology that determine the outcome. Morale was something that seemed to be draining away, like hope was leaving the farmers, the miners, the citizens and soldiers. Her Uncle had done well to train her as he had.

Her hand went to retrieve her rapier from it's sheath as she burst into song. Not just any song, for while there was indeed history behind the tale she spoke, it was more than simply the ideals behind it which made it strong. Interwoven with strands of the magic of song, her words drifted down to the ears of her allies. Always before it had awakened the kindling fires in the hearts of the downtrodden, encouraging them to unheard of acts of bravery and skill. She expected it to work no different in the hearts of trained warriors. That warrior there, did his eyes shine a bit brighter, was there a new unrelenting courage behind his blade now?

It did the woman good to see her work's fruition. Ilianna never could help but fall completely into her song. A song of battle for the living. Her hand rested on the handle of the slender blade as her melodious voice broke out over the chaos of battle and that voice found words. It was an old tale, an easily recognizable one, of a beloved knight and the exploits of his band, comprising almost completely of battle hardened peasants. The tale was meant to be told as an epic tale, starting dreary and full of gloom before the hero made his entrance. Such a thing would not do in battle, but again Ilianna had already sung the song in previous encounters. She was ready with the improvised version.

"Rukan the Shield raised his sword up on high
Crying his defiance out into sky
As the Greenblood horde marched towards his humble home
Yet Grall and Feruun refused to sit idly by..."

The tale had been told enough times. All knew what was coming. The banding of the peasant militia, the hold against the superior numbers of the Greenbloods, but there was something in her, she knew it, that made the song-story something greater. Her voice and her magic would make any song into a powerful Force. With flourish she loosed her rapier from it's sheath. Her song continued.

Move Action - Unsheathe Rapier

Standard Action - Inspire Courage (All allies that hear the song receive a +1 bonus on saving throws against charm and fear as well as a +1 morale bonus on attack and weapon damage rolls)

At a shouted command, another shower of arrows comes from the trees, striking the soldiers. [3 damage to Illyana, 3 damage to west flank Soldier, 5 damage to west center Soldier. Maya and Illyana discern their locations.]
((What is the condition/location of that guard who was shot by the first arrow?))
He has a pretty worrisome and growing amount of his own blood on his armor, but shows no signs of cowardice yet.
Wren cursed slightly at the situation but continued on. Nothing could be done about the situation, and that archer up there still hadn't spotted him it seemed. With a careful grace, he drew the dagger from his belt and hurled it at his unsuspecting, tree-borne foe. If it didn't kill him, hopefully it would at least make him slip, fall, and cease attacking.

Draw other dagger.

The dagger slams into the archer and buries itself to the hilt. His arrows shower to the ground as he jackknifes over a branch and falls, visibly breaking an arm as he tries to catch himself. [4 piercing damage, 12 falling damage)

Two additional Soldiers run through the gates.
Wren yells out after the archer falls to the ground, not that it matters the archers probobly figured out where he was anyway.

"What the hell are you all doing? Don't just stand there idle, fight!"
Uh, guys?
