Turner Gollind, Shiri Gollind, and PaperMan.exe

AW YEAH TWIN-INDUCED SHELVING FAD

Operator
Name: Turner Gollind
Age: 33
Gender: Male
Appearance: Unshaven, unkempt, and generally unclean are the key words when describing Turner. He manages to maintain a 5-o'clock shadow regardless of what time it actually is, his teeth are tinted yellow from smoking, and his dirty black hair just lays flatly on his head like it's about to die. His eyes are blue, yet what you'll usually get out of them is just a glazed look of disinterest. His face has a very drawn look, as if his skin was trying to shrivel up into a ball, which gives his entire presence a very worn image, and his clothes don't manage much better.

Some people wear clothes along the thought that "if they aren't broken, don't fix them", but Turner takes that to an extreme, "if they are broken, then whatever". A pair of very, very threadbare jeans seem to be the only pair of pants he has, and one really can't help but wonder what is keeping that fabric together. An utterly blank white t-shirt covers his torso, but reveals enough of his arms to show a pretty fair muscle mass, which is pretty much necessary in his physically demanding job of maintaining ElecTown's electrical towers. When he stands up, Turner reveals a solid 6-foot-and-inches body structure, particularly of the "you don't want to mess with me" kind. What Turner usually stands in is a pair of old sports sneakers that, in an indication of their age, aren't even produced anymore. Aside from that basic wear, Turner will occasionally sport a dull gray sweatshirt on cold days, his heavy-woven gray jumpsuit during work hours, and typically will have a cigarette dangling from his lip at some point in the day.

Personality: In one word, despondent. Turner lives a life akin to a robot: wake up, eat, go to work, smoke, get home, eat, sleep. Repeat as necessary until you keel over and die. That's Turner's life plan in a nutshell. He doesn't really want to talk to you, and typically won't, for that matter. What is probably the best chance to get him to talk is to bug him enough to tell you to shut up. He doesn't really want much to do with anyone, and will take the necessary steps to distance himself. He'll occasionally have to force small talk with his coworkers, but that usually doesn't get much farther past than "how's the weather?" on the average day. He keeps in touch with the family, though, in particular his parents-in-law, who are currently taking care of his daughter. Turner doesn't really meet or talk with her much, mostly because he really just can't find the words to say to her.

PET Modifications: Completely normal Link PET. Turner has neither the money nor desire to do anything with it.

Operator
Name: Shiri Gollind
Age: 6
Gender: Female
Appearance: If you have ever seen a little kid that was so cute that you decided in an instant that you like children, there is a decent chance that you saw Shiri. Through what might very well be a miracle, she inherited almost all of her mother's genes, leaving little trace of Turner's gruffness in her appearance. She's no taller or shorter than any of the other kids in her kindergarten class, but something about Shiri just makes her shine. Her glossy brown hair is shoulder length by nature, but a small red ribbon usually binds a good amount of it to the back of her head. Her long bangs stop maybe just an inch from her eyes, which are wide, bright, and blue. Shiri's face is very expressional and reveals just about everything she's thinking, making her pretty terrible at keeping secrets or telling lies, not that she really has many secrets to hide at her age.

Shiri's grandparents (Turner's in-laws) give her a pretty good selection of clothes, but one alone is her favorite that she'll just wear over and over. It's a pretty simple knee-length one piece dress, muted red in color, with just a few frills along the bottom and sleeveless arms. Along with that she wears an equally simple white long-sleeved shirt underneath, mostly at her grandparents' insistence because the dress alone really doesn't do much when it's cold. Her socks climb halfway up her calves and reach down into her shoes, which are just a pair of red slip-ons. Shiri hasn't quite figured out shoelaces yet, so it can't be helped. She also has a pink backpack that she keeps all her school stuff in, but doesn't really carry it around much outside of class.

Personality: Naïve, innocent, and curious, as you'd probably expect from a 6 year old. Her youth hasn't given her much of a chance to experience the world, and as such, she has a lot of questions about it. Things like "What does this do?" and "Who is that?" are common queries from her, and she'll typically believe whatever you tell her. The stork, Santa Claus, the tooth fairy, and all their friends are absolute facts to Shiri, and no one dares to tell her otherwise. Fairy tales aside, Shiri really does like to learn things, although she'd much rather go out and see new things herself than read them in a book, partially due to the fact that she can't read much besides children's books.

Most adults see Shiri as a sweet, well-mannered girl, albeit one that asks a lot of questions. She generally plays nice with the other kids at school too, but an occasional scuffle is inevitable at that age. She'll get mad if you steal from her lunch, cry when she scrapes her knee, and smile when she gets a present. Overall, Shiri's a good girl with a lot of questions, but there's one area where her curiosity stays idle: her parents. Shiri is too young to have remembered her mother, and whenever she asks her grandparents about her, they say to get the answer from her father. Since communication between them is so poor, though, Shiri really knows not much more about her father, let alone how to ask him about her mother.

PET Modifications: No PET.

NetNavi
Name: PaperMan.exe
Gender: Male
Element: Wood
Subtype: Sword
Appearance: Origami is usually considered a fine form of art that requires many years of practice and dedication to master it. PaperMan, the origami Navi, is an unusual take on the craft. His body is a true masterpiece, articulate at every point the human body would be and then some, yet... he still looks pretty silly in the end. Maybe it's because of the vast majority of Navis these days being humanoid-types, since having PaperMan stand next to the average custom Navi makes him look like a cartoon character.

As his name suggests, PaperMan is completely made of off-white paper, folded and contorted into his mostly-humanoid body. His proportions are fairly accurate, aside from small things like him being a little blocky because paper doesn't curve well and an odd variation in depth. He'll go from near complete 2D around his joints (it helps with bending) to full 3D around the thicker parts like the torso, forearms, and thighs. His 3D portions are folded in an accordion style to provide thickening and allow the body parts to expand and compress as needed. There are two additional V-shaped folds on his body, one on his pelvis and the other on his upper chest, which serve as anchors for attaching his arms and legs. His legs each have a pair of those V-folds on the knees, mostly to provide some structure and keep his legs from just flopping around uselessly, and they end in simple 90-degree bends to his flat, toeless feet. Likewise, the elbows on his arms share the same V-folds as on his knees, but PaperMan's hands are a bit more complex. His palms are a pair of sleeves that contain his fingers, which stretch out of them like branches out of a tree. His index, middle, ring, and pinky fingers are all pretty straightforward: long, double jointed, and blunted at the ends. The thumbs, though, are triple jointed, allowing PaperMan an almost limitless range of motion with them. Also, after the third joints, his thumbs spiral tightly until they end in single, needle-like points, which serve a very important purpose to him.

PaperMan's head pokes out of the V-fold on his chest, and is attached by a long, blocky neck. The head itself is more or less a single rectangular block, sitting up length-wise on his neck. After that, there are really only 3 features on PaperMan's head: his eyes, his eyebrows, and his mouth. His eyes are really buggy and just bulge out of his head, and would look pretty gross if they didn't look so cartoony. His eyebrows are flat, 2D rectangles resting above his head, and often portray his emotions better than any other part of him. Finally, his mouth is one of the many V-folds on his body, but ironically, it serves no purpose. PaperMan lacks the ability to speak, and as a result is forced to communicate in another way. By producing some ink and using his sharp thumbs as pens, he writes out everything he needs to say on strips of paper printed from his own body, and does it quite deftly with his amazingly dexterous thumbs. When in a rush, he can swipe some ink across the sheet and have it auto-form simple sentences, but that technique is typically only used in battles as it only produces some very blunt wordage that sometimes has little to do with what he actually wanted to say. With all that in mind, the only thing left on PaperMan's body is his emblem: an origami crane that is actually drawn straight onto his chest, making him quite possibly the only Navi on the Net with a 2D emblem.

Personality: Despite his inability to speak, PaperMan actually loves to talk. His complete silence make people think he's a good listener, but really PaperMan is more occupied trying to write down what he wants to say himself. Since writing is time consuming, he has learned to be very concise in his words, so much so, in fact, that some people actually find his sayings insightful and wise. Sadly, though, none of that is true, and PaperMan is actually a little dumb. He's not outright stupid, but is a little slow-witted and can get tripped up if Turner isn't giving him orders. Wits aside, PaperMan is very kind and friendly, and genuinely does his best to make others happy, regardless of the fact that he isn't the strongest Navi out there.

PaperMan has developed a very animated body language, possibly as a counter to his muteness. His gestures always seem to correlate to what he's thinking, regardless of whether or not he's actually aware he's doing it. Since he can't shout, he'll hop up and down and wave his arms in the air to get someone's attention. When he's pleading with someone, he'll often stick his hands out palm-up, as if to offer something. When someone's in a bad mood, he'll pat the air in front of him to tell them to chill out. Things like that are only a few of the motions in PaperMan's body language, and even he is probably not aware of just how many different movements he has.

Turner and Shiri are both regular thoughts in PaperMan's mind since they're family to him and he worries about them. By far, he's more worried about Turner, who has been about as useful as a dead fish these last few years. Turner doesn't hate PaperMan, but he isn't really interested in him either, so he typically just gives blunt, straightforward orders in battle. PaperMan follows them obediently, congratulates Turner when something goes well, and gives him whatever encouragement he can, just so he can hope to raise Turner's mood a little. Shiri, on the other hand, is bubbling with the energy of her age, and PaperMan needs all the time he can to keep up with her. Since she doesn't really think too hard on strategy, PaperMan is often forced to improvise on his own with her, which is a major, major weak point for him. Regardless of that, PaperMan loves Shiri a lot, and really likes spending time with her. He just wishes his two Operators would spend some time together themselves...

History: PaperMan originally belonged to neither Turner nor Shiri, but the wife and mother of the family, Rosenna. While Turner worked his job as an electrician (as he still does), Rosenna put her work to the canvas as an artist. She wasn't famous by any means, but there was a certain beauty in her paintings that just left you captivated. Her specialty was to use the digital canvases that she had discovered in college, where the artist and their Navi can paint opposite sides of the same picture to create a stunning layered effect. Rosenna and PaperMan took to this style very well and created some great art that wowed her friends and then-boyfriend Turner. None of them, Turner included, had a custom Navi, so seeing what PaperMan could do for Rosenna's painting really threw them for a loop. Despite how impressive they were, though, Rosenna really never got anywhere with her art. She wasn't the type to get depressed easily, however, so she kept painting with PaperMan for her love of art until she finished college and married Turner. Shiri was born about 2 years later, and the Gollind family lived each day happily.

Unfortunately, complications from the birth plagued Rosenna on and off from that point on. Coupled with a particularly nasty virus that made its way around the next year, Rosenna found herself bedridden, then hospitalized, and then in emergency care until it all just fell apart and she passed away. Turner was heartbroken, PaperMan was lost, and Shiri was just 1 year old without a mother. Being in no position to raise an infant child on his own, Turner was offered by Rosenna's parents that they take care of Shiri until he can get things back together in his life. Turner absentmindedly agreed, and now, 5 years later, he's still out of it. Rosenna had two last wishes for him: take good care of Shiri and PaperMan, and live happily. Turner's currently failing on both counts, with his closest things to "successes" being replacing his generic Navi with PaperMan, who he now uses to assist with his electrical work that the Navi has no capacity for, and visiting Shiri occasionally at her grandparents' house, yet not really doing anything together.

Custom Weapon: Origami-jutsu
Having a far more malleable body than the average Navi, PaperMan decided to take advantage of that and make it into his fighting style. Paper sword, paper axe, paper spear... Heck, he even figured out a paper gun that fires ink. All the above and more have been PaperMan's arms at some point, and he's always playing with new forms to imitate. In the end, though, they are just imitations, and paper ones at that. Until he can figure out how to make paper a dangerous weapon, PaperMan will just make up the difference with effort.

Signature Attacks (60/60 points):

Papercutter (60 damage, Wood, Slashing, 2TCD; 60 points)
PaperMan folds his arm into a longsword, and delivers with it a sweeping slash that'll make the unfortunate do more than bleed for just a few minutes.

Anyis's Sigs:

Channel Surf (120 Strengthen, 3TCD; 120 points)
Anyis summons several ghosts from the River, channeling them through her body simultaneously. By cycling through them to make use of their proficiencies, Anyis can power up her attacks to whatever degree she needs. As is the case whenever she channels a ghost, Anyis's eyes and gems take on a luminescent glow.

Raining River (Stage Change Sea Terrain, 3TCD; 100 points)
Anyis sends a disruption through the River's structure, causing bits and pieces of data to come down as a cold, dreary rain in a sudden deluge. As the rain hits the ground, everything begins to liquidate until the entire field is one giant pool of ice-cold water.

Boogeyman (Knockback, Passive; 10/40 points)
Built originally as a simple shortcut program for Anyis to vent excess channeled data, Boogeyman became something of an enigma as he gained the ghostly model of a battered NormalNavi. Despite his pseudo-body, Boogeyman has no personality and knows only one thing: push. Anyis tells him where and when, and Boogeyman will push with all his might. And potentially scare the crap out of some people with his caved-in head.

Ice Bleeding (Imbue Aqua, Passive; 20/80 points)
Because she has to leave her coding fairly open to channel ghost data, it can't be helped that tiny amounts of Anyis's data will leak out on occasion. Rather than curse the fact, though, she turns it to her advantage and bleeds her code into the weapons she uses, possessing them with an icy aura.

Ectopatcher (15 HP Healing, Passive; 20/80 points)
When needed, Anyis's systems will automatically draw in some junk data and reformat it to her specifications, helping to repair any minor damage she might incur.

Magna's Sigs:

Golem's Buckler (1 Hit Shield, Passive; 20/80 points)
Magna always had a proficiency with shields, and it just wouldn't feel right if he couldn't make one at will. Unlike his old earthen shield, Magna's new shield is of the same purple alloy that comprises him. Size-wise, it's a heavy tower shield... to most. Magna happens to fall just outside of that category, and wields it effectively with one hand.</div><br><a href="javascript: togglebar('Bomber7'); void(0);">FXP and Crosses</a><div id="Bomber7" class="signaturetab">MeleeMan: 36/70 FXP

GMOs:
As per Anyis's request, Mill made a swimsuit for her. Her robe, boots, and bodysuit are all forsaken for a two-piece that is designed with a more athletic style in mind. Not much is left to imagination when Anyis is wearing, but that's more due to the form-fitting design than it being particularly revealing. Both parts have secure, thick straps and are given an orange color with navy blue trimmings along the edges. Her usual long, white gloves are replaced very short navy blue ones, the ends of which don't even reach her wrists. Anyis's topaz gems are still embedded in the back of the hands like usual, and the spacing between the fingers are webbed to grant her better traction in the water. Her transformed gauntlets lose their scaly texture, becoming much smoother overall for the sake of hydrodynamics when attacking. One extra accessory is granted to Anyis in form of a miniature oxygen filter attached to a waterproof string tied around her neck, which effectively solves that "can't open mouth or talk underwater" problem she found out she had. Finally, with her belt gone, Anyis finds her emblem embedded in the face of her filter. Overall, the design addresses all of Anyis's underwater needs, and she secretly admits that Mill didn't do that bad of a job on the look of it, either.

Magna.SP

GMOs:
Upon realizing that Magna can't float, and that Anyis had a habit of liquefying battlefields at a moment's notice, Mill decided to address his SP's buoyancy problem. The fix was simple and, admittedly, lazy, as Mill designed Magna's first new GMO as that of a buoy. The changes Magna undergoes are actually few and far between, as his shape is already a bit buoy-like to begin with. His entire upper body and arms remain as-is, with the only transformation being a replacement of his piston base with a more seaworthy one. In this form, Magna is supported only by a narrow purple pillar and 4 legs that extend down to the buoy base for stabilization. The flotation device embedded in Magna's base is, of course, purple, and a small hole at the very bottom of the buoy allows Magna to fire water jets, giving him as much jumping ability at sea as his piston base allows on solid ground. The buoy base is very well balanced, so Magna isn't in danger of capsizing, but he is prone to bobbing helplessly in the water should the waves get a bit too choppy.

After sinking several feet into a snow drift, it became clear that Magna needed a new GMO to address another one of the terrain deficiencies caused by his size and weight. Ironically, Mill ended up solving the problem by making it worse: in Plow.GMO, Magna actually becomes bigger than he already is normally. True to the name, Magna's entire base is replaced by a snow plow truck as purple as the rest of him is. The heavily-plated body of the plow is all the purple alloy Magna is made of, but the wheels of the truck and the plow itself are metallic silver, and the treads around the wheels are black. Where the cockpit would normally be on the top middle of the truck's body is where Magna's upper body resides, which remains completely unchanged from his normal form. There really isn't much of a height difference from before, but the sheer length and width of the change greatly increases Magna's overall size in this form, and this expanded surface area distributing his weight is what ends up giving him a more stable position on softer terrains like snow and sand. Not quite Navi, virus, or Cybeast, yet history holds it as one of the most fearsome creatures to ever traverse the Net. The battle to fell it became the stuff of legend, and the fighters responsible became heroes in children's tales. And now Anyis has tapped a mere fraction of the power of a monster that should never be heard from again, with explosive results. With the little amount of data she can safely channel, Anyis can only materialize a foggy upper body, devoid of color and completely ethereal, held together only by its own sheer density and flecks of ice. Yet with a thrust of her own fists, the Titan charges forward through both enemies and objects until it gets to its target, delivering a crushing blow with either a heavy punch or the thick horns on its head.

(120 Strengthen, 3TCD; 120 points)
Anyis summons several ghosts from the River, channeling them through her body simultaneously. By cycling through them to make use of their proficiencies, Anyis can power up her attacks to whatever degree she needs. With a wave of her hand, Anyis ices over the underside of the River. As the rest of the ghost data flows over the frozen portion, the ice breaks up into tiny snowflakes and falls to the ground. The total accumulation from the fallen snow isn't that much, but what does fall has the special quality of turning what other types of terrain it touches into more snow, resulting in a thick pack of snow that can be dug pretty deep into. The snow conversion typically takes on the physical features of the current area, but on flat areas, several light snow banks can form.

(60 Heal, 2TCD; 80 points)
Anyis provides a bigger healing boost than her automated system could by directly infusing the ghost data into the target... with her fist. Yeah, Anyis figured out how to heal things by punching them. It's a win-win situation as far as she's concerned. Since the breakdown of the channeled ghost into more useable data bits begins in her fist, this pro-bono act of violence is as much out of necessity as it is personal satisfaction. And yes, Anyis needs to punch herself should she want to heal her wounds.

(Knockback, Passive; 10/40 points)
Built originally as a simple shortcut program for Anyis to vent excess channeled data, Boogeyman became something of an enigma as he gained the ghostly model of a battered NormalNavi. Despite his pseudo-body, Boogeyman has no personality and knows only one thing: push. Anyis tells him where and when, and Boogeyman will push with all his might. And potentially scare the crap out of some people with his caved-in head.

(Imbue Aqua, Passive; 20/80 points)
Because she has to leave her coding fairly open to channel ghost data, it can't be helped that tiny amounts of Anyis's data will leak out on occasion. Rather than curse the fact, though, she turns it to her advantage and bleeds her code into the weapons she uses, possessing them with an icy aura.
The orange energy in Magna's body has always been mysterious to Mill, as he never really programmed it with a purpose, yet Magna himself has adapted it to express emotion through the light's intensity and also to break down Bugfrag data into useable power. Now another use has popped up, and this one has battle uses. By radiating the energy outward through his eyes and mouth at maximum intensity, Magna can generate a barrier of this orange energy around himself or the Mother Unit. It's not a completely solid barrier, but the energy always appears in the right place to absorb damage, and there's enough extra energy coursing around in a spherical pattern that it's obvious a barrier is there.

(1 Hit Shield, Passive; 20/80 points)
Magna always had a proficiency with shields, and it just wouldn't feel right if he couldn't make one at will. Magna happens to fall just outside of that category, and wields it effectively with one hand.

FXP: (Current/Next Level)

Because the truck body is so wide, Magna's arms can't remain his main source of offense, so the golem opts to ram and run over his enemies with the plow to manage his impact-heavy attack style. Magna's native jumping ability is not available in a GMO as large as this, but the tread-mounted body grants him a decent speed boost that puts him more on part with some of the faster SPs out there. Despite this speed boost, though, Magna is almost completely unable to dodge attacks with this large body, so he has to rely on his defenses even more than normal.

HP Memories: 4

(80 HP Barrier, 2TCD; 80 points)

Unlike his old earthen shield, Magna's new shield is of the same purple alloy that comprises him. Size-wise, it's a heavy tower shield... to most. Magna happens to fall just outside of that category, and wields it effectively with one hand.

FXP: (Current/Next Level)

Anyis ignites the ghost in her right gauntlet, turning it into raw propulsion as the gauntlet blasts forward in a wake of ground-melting heat. Since this technique lacks any direct damage, Anyis will intentionally miss enemies and instead opt to just burn them alive. The gauntlet automatically returns after stopping, with the ghost manning it showing no damage as if spontaneously combusting didn't bother it.

(Blast 4 Stun, 3TCD; 120 points)
Anyis's possessed left gauntlet shoots high into the air, then dive-bombs straight into the ground with fist clenched. The raw force of the impact sends tremors through the nearby area, knocking all who feel it off their feet. Somehow, there is almost no apparent recoil to this suicidal dive, showing that the ghost in the left gauntlet is just as resilient as its brother in the right.

Member Awards:
