From Beyond {lurking;grasping}

For a time, a major thoroughfare of SciLabs was blocked off by a quarantine barrier. What the glowing wall's purpose was, few could say; no matter how long one spent devoting their craft to the scientific cathedral, there would always be clearance levels never breached, some never discovered. So it was that most who'd seen the barrier, or even been present when the evacuation alarms had blared their chilling tolls - had simply rerouted their travels, and asked no questions. It was the way of things, in their world of secrets.

Those few who had overseen the barrier, whatever their intentions, had found nothing. The cause of the incident had fled - disappeared, really. There had been something like a jack-out's digital signature, but the language was indecipherable static, and the PET address had tried very hard to convince SciLabs' computers that the assailant had gone everywhere. There was undoubtedly at least a couple angry mutters about unstable glitch-junkies, or something to that tune. Of the quarantine target, though, there could be no sign.

And when it returned, seeping into a forgotten corner of the Net far from its early exit point, so too did nobody notice, at least not immediately. Oh, they would soon enough, no doubt; the foreign contaminant had been anything but subtle on its rampage. For now, it oozed through quiet nooks, casting little feelers up from its surface. The air shuddered at their touch as they sucked at it, tasting for life.

In time, a thin sort of protrusion grew on its surface. Its shape was an abstract of a body: shoulders, the suggestion of limbs, the back of a head where it drifted face-down. It did not move. It made no noise, save a faint creaking groan that echoed from the whole pooling white, like metal or wood under immense strain. Or was it the Net making the noise, in response to this trespasser? Whatever the source, noise traveled far in quiet places. Any listeners would hear it well before the creeping white sprawl came into view.

[Searching for first meal {Hex: 180 HP, Ego: 90 HP}]
Hex and it's captive would slither their way along the network, soon finding themselves in a...well, brightly lit would be too strong, the local area they found themselves in would consist of badly maintained Solar paneling with beaten and battered metal panels crossing the field just outside of each on the inner areas of the four solar "quadrants", each of the solar panels flickering weakly as they seemingly had either been forgotten about...or something was damaging them internally.

Sadly for Hex, it would quickly be descended upon by a quintet of viruses, a pair of the fiery boxers known as Champus, one farther north between the paneling and the other staring daggers right at the navi, fists engulfed in flames and taking a stance. A local flying head made of stone would soon descend upon the field as well, an Elec Aura flaring up as it stared at the "navi" and looked upon the buggy creature with disdain. A Miner coming up from beneath the field a short distance from Hex and captive as it spat a mine into it's hands with a dopy grin on it's face, and finally, a broken, battered and glitched Mister Prog would float on in, above in the north-eastern quadrant of the field, it's body constantly glitching out as electrical sparks flickered from it's head. "W-Welcome! D-Doge Ball! GiVE [NAVI CORE] to M-M-ME!" it shouted out. Hex's processors would quickly flare up, readying it for combat...all while a small green data crystal would make itself apparent in the area, seemingly coming into existence as battle routines started.

DarkProgDarkProg (DarkProg)

DarkProgs are Mr. Progs cruelly corrupted and warped to become expendable soldiers. They appear mostly as normal Mr. Progs, but their face is much more darkly colored, and have glowing white eyes, as well as missing their left arm. They attack by emitting static around themselves. While they are fairly strong attackers, especially in groups, they have poor endurance, which is only exacerbated by the fact their attacks harm themselves. They very rarely dodge, but will often try to move close to the enemy before attacking.

Hex's feelers tasted life in the air, and eagerly stretched out in search of it. A tide began to rise, dragging itself into the Net as a snakes-nest of crawling protrusions. From its depths rose a murky silhouette, soon spat out on the surface and clattering against the solar panels. A headless husk; once a Navi, now a hollow shell barely inches thick, carved of all vitality. White flooded the body, crumpling legs and torso into a segmented carapace. Its stiff arms snicked together, torn around and sewed into mandibles. The neck grew teeth out of splinters, and a long white tongue.

For a moment, it was still. Dim red light shone from a half-submerged metal ring, casting strange bloody shadows into its depths: the Manifest Conduit was active. As it processed and calculated, there was a sound, like static, mixed with someone moaning low.

Then, as suddenly as it stilled, all at once the white burst into motion. The crafted body jerked and swayed forward, while around it tentacles whipped and tore at the air. The tumour from which the glowing ring protruded, twitched at odds with the greater whole. Every motion was arrhythmic, uncanny. Organic, but not the slightest bit human.

Amidst the chaos, a growth of foul mass came to a head. The surface bloated, and squeezed out an oozing rope. Arms, bound to arms bound to arms, some human, some just veiny black ooze, crawling over the dingy panels. The white knew Mr. Progs well, nearly as well as Navis. The processors behind that vapid grin were always worth collecting, even pre-seasoned with decay. While the body distracted, the wretched braid snaked low across the field, rearing back to lash and snare with its many gripping hands. More matter, more white.

The Conduit pulsed, irregular and bloody. What thoughts were gleaned from intelligence begat of Hex? What did it perceive of the world around it? How did it decide the Megalian posed the greatest threat, and know to advance on the floating head? Only Ego might have known, and she - it, really - was not there. The thing called Egomorph was one projection of the white among many, defined only by the Manifest Conduit that served as Hex's brain - and when it was in use, there was no room in the tiny being for anything but Hex.

The mandibles snapped off at the shoulders, propelled forward on whipping tentacles. The tongue followed suit in lunging at the Megalian's head, hungry and devoid of thought. Whatever thoughts might have passed through the Conduit, in the end it amounted to nothing more than the drive to consume, to drag the world into its maw, and whatever approach was needed to take the next bite. Viruses, Navis, ground, space - more matter, more white, always more, more, more.

Curious palpi rose from the base of Ego's stalk. Razor-fine, they flowed liquid around the Megalian's barrier, testing it in small, probing bites. Ego swayed overhead, its little form stretched into a snapping sort of hinge. Where once there might have been a face, an obscene tentacle hung, thick at its root and bladed all down its length, little reaching feelers capping a barbed spearhead. There was a distressing sort of mimicry in the physics of its carapace: a heron's neck, a mantis' foreleg, a snake reared back to strike. Too organic to be the product of a thoughtless ooze.

The tendril hacked down, seeking a way in. It was more sharp enough to split a virus' carapace in a couple of bites, but some wretched logic instructed the white to find and follow the path of least resistance. Eyes, mouths, soft tissue; these were its favourite targets, where the Egomorph sought to bury home their cruel proboscis. he white looked at the Megalian's head, and saw only the resources of its matter, and a husk ripe for the taking.

Surrounded on all sides by a tide of dragging, biting ooze, it would not take long if even a few feelers took hold.

The tide was rising again, oozing into the Net from some unseen shore. The solar arrays creaked and groaned.

Like a horror movie, the blob of data known as Hexadecimal would quickly ready itself for attacks, the Prog glitching and twitching as the being encroached upon it, ready to strike. The Champu duo, however, watched and acted accordingly as they would quickly double-team the white, a flurry of four punches in total lead in on the creature with deadly percision, but The White's form was able to evade three of the four blows, the last scratching against it's outer armor, probably a blessing in disguise for it's prisoner, it's puppet, as the damage was less than the sum of it's parts due in part to the Champu family's combo game and their inability to do more than scratch damage individually (5, 5).

Lashing out, The White quickly hit the Prog before it could do much more than babble to itself, being absorbed upon it's form being struck by it's attack, the prog's form losing all coloring, ready for absorption as data surged to Hex's form to parse through later, apparently it's function was to keep the lighting of the solar panels going strong...ironic. (60, perfect kill!) As The White continued it's calculated rampage through the area, the Miner quickly dipped beneath the paneling with a dopey grin on it's face, as if oblivious to what's happening, the afterimage of a mine quickly blowing through the area as it did, obvious to Ego and Hex. As this happened, the Megalian would be quick to rush at the navi and puppet in tow, head thrown forward at the two as if attempting to erase it's presence on the network as quickly as possible, knowing full well what would happen to it and the rest if not nipped in the bud...but unfortunately, even as it passed by the two, it had missed entirely against White and Puppet.

As if that wasn't bad enough, The White managed to clasp onto the head with it's attack, it's form quickly falling to the floor without a second to think. All the while, The White had it's enemy in it's grasp like the preditory monster it was, it quickly stripped the aura away from the Megalian and quickly devoured it's prey with brutal efficacy (80, 80), stone cracking beneath it's mandibles and weaponry as the virus' form was completely erased and absorbed into the creature known as Hexadecimal. The two champies looked on with horrified faces, as Hex finished it's meal of aura and stone, knowing they were likely next. Rushing forward, the two Champy viruses attacked again...and unfortunately, The White and it's Puppet were quickly assulted, three of the four hits connecting even in their fear and haste, leaving the two lightly toasted from the attacks (15, 15) as the miner brought down another set of mines on the field as Hex waited...looking for another opportunity as the two Champu viruses returned to their positions on the field.
