((Courser from → Rachel's Home))
As Courser arrived in the slightly more distant and darker regions of Hades' uncontrolled network, the heat washed over him and he stretched, spritzing himself with a fresh wash of clean water in an effort to keep cool. Why had they chosen this place again?
“Okay, I'm in, Jen. What's the plan?” He kicked off on a rising water current, letting it hiss and steam on the scorching ground as he wove a brief circle around his landing point, deciding which way to go. Jenny answered in his ear a moment later, like she was reading from a checklist.
“Ah, we're jacked into the Hades rogue net, and you're going to go busting for the bounty you picked up. We need to find a place where the viruses are particularly think and dense, and keep coming, and once we find somewhere like that, you're going to go all shark mode, and fight them.” She sounded nervous. Surprisingly, Courser realised, more nervous than he felt, now. He knew that Rach and Nara were on the line with them, watching over whatever he got himself into, and knowing that they were gave him a lot of comfort, all things considered.
“Okay... that doesn't sound too bad.”
“I mean, we need you to see how much of its power you can make use of, safely. And Rachel is tied in too, and Nara, so we can help if anything goes wrong.” She sounded like she was reassuring herself as much as him, but he wasn't about to mention it. They all needed to be careful. He picked a direction and surfed forward, letting his path curve slowly back and forth as he started to explore.
“I can do that, Jen, don't worry. This will all go great, and I'll be tucking the dragon under my belt by tonight as well, just you watch.”
“Courser! Don't you...” He laughed and Jenny fell into a pouting silence at his joke. He was joking, wasn't he? He sure hoped it was a joke.

A Beastly Experiment

Making his way into the sliiiiightly dilapidated network, Courseman would find himself on a metal lined terrain warped from the hellish heat that surrounded him with black and charred points here and there, with a scant few patches of other terrain...two patches of charcoal-based Coal terrain, one of partially glassed Sand. The former nearby to his left and just back behind him...the latter towards the edge of the area on the right. But before he could push forwards, a silent klaxon began to go off, viruses quickly closing in on Courser's position.
Coming down from the sky, a massive ball of dark metal smashing onto the floor near the navi, a quartet of spindly spider-like legs coming from the top of the sphere and a hammer forming behind it as it's legs clacked loudly on the warped and burnt metal, whilst the Buffy-F he had been searching for would flutter in, the mechanical puffer fish-like virus fluttering about, bubbles on it's comically enlarged lips. All the while, a large amount of what could only be called "Shadows" in various viral shapes would begin to enclose upon the field, trapping Courser in...or were they entrapped with him? Either way, a hooded virus began to hop into the field half-heartedly, a massive staff in hand, as it sat down on the sandy patch with what could only be called a yawn emanating from the hood. A rickety stove with eyes beginning to clamber in, barely put together and ready to belch flame at Courser...and a low to the ground humanoid virus with tribal markings across it's entire armored body, mask on it's face with a deep glower and a pair of heavy cleavers, ready to cut through the navi's defenses.
He was trapped, viruses practically surrounding him for the time being...if he fought, he could likely thin out their numbers enough to escape...but did he WANT to is the issue...perhaps the beast within would like a feast for it's first battle? Or did it's hunger not grow enough to keep him there for long?

MonoSwordinMonoSwordin (MonoSword)
MonoSword are distant cousins of Swordy, but have evolved further in an attempt become more a threat. They attack by teleporting in front of their target, and slashing with their namesake before returning to their original position. Their blades are sturdier than most, and can cut through things regular ones cannot, such as shields. Their bulky armor also gives them above average stamina, but it weighs them down to the point where they do not move or dodge, aside from attacking. Despite it lacking any sort of defense that would bestow such a weakness, they ironically take additional damage from Break attribute attacks.

Attack Accuracy: C
Attack Description: Delivers an armor cutting slash.

Possible Rewards (Per Virus): BreakSword, Zenny
Special: Break Weakness: Attacks with the Break attribute deal +100% Source damage to this virus, as though hitting an elemental weakness.
Special: Moves by teleporting. This is not treated as a formal Teleport, and does not confer any bonuses.: 210 HP (Coal) (To the left of Courseman)
RavagerRavager (Raider)
A large black sphere, with 4 mechanical, spider-like legs. It attacks by forming a large hammer atop its head/body, then somehow swinging it without any apparent body motion.
Raider does two things: it draws near, and attacks. In a battle, this is done by Feinting to get close to its target without completely sacrificing self-preservation, then smacking them hard with a hammer. It always alternates between these two, and almost never strays for this pattern: however, if it is completely incapable of harming any enemies for some reason, it will dodge to buy time for the enemy to become vulnerable. Which action it starts with depends on its initial position, as it will attack if it's already close, without bothering to feint.

Courser kept a light spray of fresh water about himself as he surfed on, listening to the hissing fizzle of his water eddy as it coasted across scorching rock and metal, and onto burning sand. The head was oppressive, and his thoughts drifted back to his last Hades excursions, in a strangely more innocent time, only a few months prior.
He blinked and skidded on his water current, curving to a halt as he began to notice the encroaching presence all around him. Further back, the looming threat of more viruses drawn to his incursion gave him enough pause to look around slowly.
“Alright... Guess we're doing this here then...” He let his wave whips uncoil as he took a stance, eyeing up the different foes, then ducked on shoulder slightly at a lower angle. From the shadow of his motion, courser drew one of the whips back up and in to form a solid wall of rushing water spreading out from his fist while the mist rose and encircled him protectively, but as he did a shadow split off from him, lunging out in a fast, diving movement. It took form as another courser, but not quite the same; it had grey skin, and its face was partially obscured by a point-nosed shark skull, while a skeletal rib cage encircled its chest and joined the exposed spinal column of bone ridges down its back. The shark-courser snarled as in leapt more than ran, streaking through the air jagged teeth first towards the ravager virus directly ahead.
In the midst of the aggressive display, Courser himself took a breath and reached inward, pulling on the threads of power that weren't quite a part of him. He felt it rise again, feeding into him and sending ripples of energy through his form. With it, an awareness – each virus stood out in his senses all the more keenly than before, like small glowing beacons of data that he could feel even with his eyes closed. There came hunger, and wrath, too, more than before when they'd been somewhere safe. The physical change passed over him in a wave, and though it left his body mostly the same – the sharkskin and bone motifs restricted to his coat and his other clothes, mostly, Courser could still feel its influence over him; the hunger was his hunger; the wrath, his wrath.
As he felt the swell of power and sensation flood him Courser stood straight in his combat stance, arching back enough to throw his hands wide.
“Come on then!!” The watery shield and his other wave whip were temporarily thrown aside as a storm of water bolts erupted from his body, drenching the field in a scatter-blast that now carried far more density, and more power, than his usual, more playful shots. The wild explosion of jet-stream bolts continued to harry the viruses around him for a moment or two until courser pulled his arms back in, gritting his now zig-zagging teeth and taking a breath. Stay sensible; he had a plan, stick to it and stay in control. He held the power in check, letting it fill him without running wild, and instead reached down to his belt, into one side of his coat, to produce the silver-worked revolver that had become one of his favourites. As he stood again his free hand fanned out, half circling the area as he pulled the trigger three times, aiming each in turn at the sword-wielder, the hammer-swinger and the staff-waver. Who needed class balance when you had guns? Each shot blasted cracks in the ground all around him, regardless of whether he hit his foes or not. And as courser felt the rush of the sudden violence, water began to rise, seeping up from the torn ground in a rapidly encroaching flood. He heard someone laughing; it was his voice.
The water rose, first a film across the ground, turning the sand to sludge and hissing across the panels, before drowning them in a swiftly curtailed quench. Then it was around Coursers ankles, then his knees. Cracks burst as he let the threads of power within him reach out and reshape the world around him to the way it should be; the beast knew what its domain was like, and as the battlefield drowned, it made it right. Soon the would seemed engulfed in deep, dark water. External to the battle, seen from a distance, it might only cover a moderate range, but for those poor souls within the sphere of ocean, it looked like it stretched on for ever in ever direction, fading into water darkness.
Down below, the ground had become a strewn graveyard of the hulks of rotted ships, and just as mammoth in size, the aged and algae-covered bones of great sea leviathans, jutting up from the silt. The essence of the creature flowed through Courser, and he felt his body ripple in response to the shift in the terrain; a slight translucency, a little bit more watery, if that were even possible. All around him, swirls of water current circled and spiralled, surrounding his form in the broken and scattered detritus of the ocean bone yard; small chunks of barnacled wood and broken bones formed a veritable shell of constantly moving debris as he floated in the middle of it all
“You're in My Ocean! My Grave. Your Grave!!” His voice was a growl as he cast around for viruses to tear apart. His eyes found some. “You. Tear apart and drown!” His free hand clenched, then lifted upwards, and pointed towards several of the remaining targets, as, just below him and to one side, a shift in the wreckage of wood and bones gave rise to a sudden burst – a structure jutted up from the sea floor, made now of fashioned bone and cracked with age, yet still recognisable as the needle turret Courser often used. Now it creaked in the water and craned its muzzle, firing pressurised, harpoon-like bone lances up into the waters above, aiming its volley of shots at three of the now ocean-bound viruses. Each shot trailed bubbles as it lanced through the water, and the attacks kicked up silt and murk that swirled around the bony protrusion, protecting it.
Courser focused himself, letting the feeling grow as each violent act seemed to fuel the beast within. He still had it; he could draw more power still. He was still in control. Mostly. He looked about through the deep ocean and assessed his targets.

The viruses stared down at Courseman, a pregnant pause in the air as they watched him and he watched them back...unfurling his whips, combat started as his usual protections rose up...shield, casing and barrier in short order, his shadow launching itself and rapidly going after whatever was in it's way, the Ravager was quick to swing down it's massive hammer with a loud, ringing echo across the field thinking the clone was real, not only missing it's attack, but sending the hammer flying into the air as a veritable splinter of metal shards cascaded into the air. The hammer that had been launched, however, landing waaaaay behind the real Courser with a clatter and dispersal of junk data as the Metrod swiftly made it's way towards the Heater virus, sliding in behind the creature to give itself a meat-shield from the navi's attacks.
Though, all the viruses in the battle, and the ones surrounding the area, would soon regret attacking the navi. Reaching for the power he forcefully claimed for himself in Sharo, the navi underwent his metamorphosis...and with it, a sudden chill up the backs of every virus present. Lashing out across the field with his own power, each virus getting hit at least twice in his attacks (120!, 45, 90!, 60!, +315 BSP), the viruses would step back in unison, almost...afraid...even the shadows recognized the power Courser had taken for himself, but they continued on regardless as the Buffy spat out a bubble in retaliation, sending it bounding in Courser's direction...but it managed to bounce JUST above him in the madness that ensued, but would be back for another attempt on the navi's life. The MonoSwordin, however, would quickly jump from sight and using it's massive butcher's cleavers would make another attempt on Courser's life...or at least, the one that LOOKED like Courser, as it landed with a loud clang against his clone and inexplicably missing as it struggled to pull the cleavers out of the metal.
As things continued, he pulled the heavy artillery out, explosions rocketing through the field as his beastly magnum shots rang out, each hitting it's mark, absolutely destroying the Swordin and gravely wounding his other two targets without a single moment's hesitation (+405 BSP). The Metrod would fire back with it's own explosive ordinance in turn, waving it's staff about behind the Heater, a multitude of meteors would begin to rain down upon the field...and with it, the absolute annihilation of Courser...'s clone, multiple meteors embedded in where the clone stood before disappearing entirely, causing the Metrod to smash it's rod on the ground in frustration as the Heater belched flames at the navi, engulfing him and ripping away his barrier, whilst the Buffy tried again to attack, even with his best efforts, this bubble managed to hit, exploding on his casing and destroying it entirely, from being superheated on the nearby coals.
Quickly countering, before he could be struck again, Courser drew up the power of the beast itself through his vassal...a roiling torrent of water immediately drowning out the entirety of the visible field, shadows shuddering as they held back the roiling waves from escaping the area they "partitioned" off from the rest of the network. A new casing and a strange effect running along Courser's form as both drew from the power of the seas themselves, a deep dark abyss below navi and viruses, just barely contained within the sphere of this fight. Viruses flailed about as their bodies began to hiss, their forms beginning to slowly disappear as fire and water didn't mix well with one another. And whilst they were preoccupied with being deleted inside and out, flames snuffed like a candle, the familiar turret made out of hewn bone began to rise from the depths...firing upon everything within it's pervew, though a couple shots missed, the Heater and the Buffy would find themselves gone as the hewn harpoons ripped through their bodies (40, 80, 40, 160 BSP). Scared, and more importantly having lost it's meat-shield, the Metrod would quickly move, attempting to climb it in a futile attempt to get out of the water. The Ravager, however, was unsure how to proceed, it's massive spindly legs trying to find a proper way to escape deletion...but finding no place to escape to, it lifted another hammer and attempted to slam it against Courser...missing entirely as the hammer would go flying off into the distance and splash into the sea, sinking deep down below with a really pathetic bloop.
Finally, as the shadows of the viruses conversed amongst themselves in an attempt to keep calm, a pair of viruses that could fly began to make their way onto the field forCourser's Squalo's hunger to be sated with, one of the Megalian family in a higher powered aura than he was used to seeing, as a blood-red Fishy virus began to float in, slowly beginning to line up with him on the opposite side of Courser from the Megalian and a massive metal sphere with a face carved into it with a brilliant icy blue finish. But Courser also had a problem...that bubble that missed him was beginning to encroach upon him again...

Raider does two things: it draws near, and attacks. It always alternates between these two, and almost never strays for this pattern: however, if it is completely incapable of harming any enemies for some reason, it will dodge to buy time for the enemy to become vulnerable. Escape in 2 turns...

The feeling of his form flowing in tune to the sea around him would be easy to get lost in; Courser could feel the edges of his transplanted ocean growing warm as the Hades heat beyond its borders reacted. As long as he stood here in the epicentre of this watery grave, though, the space was his, and would remain so. At the edge,s more viruses forced their way into the space, encroaching ,and found themselves afloat in his sea, and all around the currents of power kept his senses alive with a glowing awareness of each new threat... each new feast... He grit his teeth and kept the sensation at bay. The beast might devour viruses, but he wasn't it – he was just using its power.
The rush of drawing on those threads was potent, even as he kept it under control; don't draw too much at once, but keep pushing to see how much he could handle. As the swirling currents surrounded him, Courser let the shadows embrace his watery shape completely, turning him into little more than an indistinct shadow in the water. The shadow circled in the centre of the grave, then split into two as one darted away, taking form again suddenly and sharp as it leapt towards the Megalian, all savage grin and bony mask. The beast Courser lunged, then circled the virus, snapping as it looked for the softest piece to bite.
Courser held himself back, focused on controlling the threads of power, while around him the sunken graveyard itself continued to grow and shift. Circles of currents made Courser's shadow the eye of a slowly growing whirlpool in the centre of the space, wile below, amongst the rotted wreckage of a ship hulk, broken chunks of wood burst upwards, revealing a grime-encrusted wooden figurehead; three figures wrapped about each others as they might have been once on the prow of the ship; a man, a woman, and then a bestial shark, jaws open. It settled, off-kilter and at a broken angle, until the shark eyes flared with sudden light. A thin lance of scorching flame flared upwards, cutting through the water like a concentrated heat-beam, on a line to cut through two of the newly arrived viruses, if it was well aimed.
A cloud of murk and mud billowed around the rotting totem as it fired, obscuring its form into a dark silhouette, for now, while above, Courser felt his grin split into a dark laugh. He drew more, pulling the currents into himself and sending them out again as the waters circling him grew faster, stronger, and more of the derelict grave below came alive around him. The bony protrusion down amongst the skeletal remains twisted in place and launched another spread of bone lances up across the battlefield, while courser pulled the second silver-worked weapon out of his coat. Still laughing, he aimed it first as the icy turret virus trying to hide in amongst his own wreckage; another concussive shout blasted out, sending up a stream of steaming bubbles with its recoil, before Courser pulled the barrel up to take two more destructive shots at the other viruses around him. It disappeared from his hand a moment later, forgotten. He could still draw more than this; the guns weren't the best choice down here now, but he had other options, and he could feel the surge of the water around him, eager to be used now.

Quick on his feet in his element, Courser would slip into the depths of the water, his shadowy form beginning to form about...and just in time as the bubble that honed in on his position popped, but with little regard as it lightly scorched the hired help's barrier and nothing else. Enraged, the Ravager would immediately lunge forwards, another massive hammer ineffectively smashing the navi and secondarily missing the Needler. Every virus' would stare down the navi and Needler...except the Metrod, it attempted to get one final attack in, but died in the process from the watery hell that surrounded it.
Gathering power as the Megalian attacked Courser and his help, missing entirely as the head passed through the clone, shadow and went too far off target, the Coldhead opening up immediately to attack the real Courser, passing through and hitting the ground behind him, icing it over immediately. Whilst his newly summoned figure burned away the Megalian's aura, the Coldhead was much less lucky and wound up getting a gout of flame in it's face, burning it away in an instant (+180 BSP). The Blazer, immediately taking this as an insult, finished lining up...and with it, swiftly flew at Courser and help, spining about, flames attempting to burn away everything, tearing away the barriers around his helpers as he gathered his power ever further. Needler was swiftly making it's move in the meantime, sending a gout of needles and hitting everything once at least, the Ravager on it's last legs, whilst the other two seemed annoyed at best. (40, 40, 80, +160 BSP)
At the end of the turn, Courser was faster than his contemporaries, sending a trio of blasts across the field and causing a light "leak" in "his" home (+360 BSP), but at least the virus problem was taken care of for a few moments as he took the chance to further his own power. As this happened, a Miner and Buffy-F would slink in as the next sacrifices, the shadows growing restless as they were more than outmatched by the beast powered navi...even as this happened, a particularly confident Blackmare slunk in above the broken panels Courser made, hefting it's blade high with a shriek. As well, a quick look at his Totem would see it degrading faster than it should be...perhaps the Sea Courser called home was degrading it?

Nightmare viruses only appear in battle when Missing Terrain is present, and only one Nightmare may appear per panel of Missing Terrain. Nightmares do not dodge, and they only move by teleporting before and after attacking an enemy. Nightmares have permanent Shadow, unless they are attacking. Teleporting before and after their attacks does not require an action. They will always end a turn while floating over Missing or Hole Terrain. If the Hole terrain is altered in any way, they will instantly teleport to unoccupied Missing Terrain. Nightmares cannot share ownership of a Missing Panel with other viruses that require Missing Terrain to be on the field. If for any reason there is not enough Missing Terrain to accommodate a Nightmare at the end of a turn, the Nightmare will Escape from the battle immediately.

Drifting in the centre of the growing maelstrom, Courser breathed deeply, his eyes casting about the murky water as more targets made their way into his domain. The circle of currents rushed, still carrying thick chunks of rotted wood and bone debris with them in a protective ward but further shadows split off from him, taking shape again as a beast that seemed almost more shark than man this time; it swam like a black shape in the water to circle around the Blackmare as it arose, snapping the suggestion of razor-sharp teeth as it sought the one-eyed virus' blind side.
Courser could feel the threads of energy flowing in from the fragment of power inside him, building more and more every moment, but still easy enough to direct, for now. His thoughts were responding; there was an edge to them. He was thinking of the new viruses as targets... as prey... and they glowed in his senses. They were intruders in his sea, he could feel the urges, yearning for destruction, but he could still recognise the influence of it, apart from his own thoughts. Mostly. He was reaching a limit though. There was more power to draw, but his body was almost at the edge of what it could take, doing it this way.
His gaze flickered towards the viruses around him, and in response the bone-forged needle platform twisted again, shooting shafts of sharpened bone across the field. Two sets of the pressurised missiles struck towards the viruses, at least – one set lanced across the wreckage of the sea floor to punch through the figurehead's protective barrier and strike it back towards the sharp jaws that held the violent heat lance. The murky water around the totem billowed up in response, re-cloaking the shape in obscuring dust and murk, but the totem itself had a moment yet to fire in response, shooting another searing stream of heat across the field towards the Buffy virus, and anything else that was unlucky enough to get in the way.
Courser took another long breath, panting now, and grit his teeth. He tasted blood where his tongue caught a sharp edge, and reared upwards from where he realised he'd started to hunch up. A feral growl left him as he rounded on the first virus he could focus on. That was it, not more power like that, or the strain would begin to damage him. The growl became a shout as he swung one arm around, his water whip forming into a long, slender blade of controlled pressure water. The blade itself was nowhere near the virus, but as he swung his arm the waters around him responded, twisting and swirling into a rending tidal current that scythed around and down along with the direction of the blade, raking across the field towards the Blackmare virus.
As the strike cut through the water in a wave, Courser teetered on the edge of the bloodthirsty urge to swing again and again, and pulled himself back from it with another growl. He could handle this; he was in control, not it. The urge to draw ever deeper from the fragment remained, eager, hungry. He could pull more, but... different. How else? The navi blinked and closed his eyes, focusing on directing the flow of wild energy. Like that. That would work. He closed his eyes properly, for the moment ignoring any foes that remained around him, if indeed they were; he shut the points of their life out from his senses and concentrated. Send it this way, to his other systems, let it build there, and draw it out. The power stream writhed for a moment, then shifted and flowed, a river redirected, and Courser felt power welling now through his core buster system instead. Lots of room to fill up there...
“Come on, beastie, let's see how much rent you can pay...” He flexed his fingers and opened his eyes again, focusing on the points of viral light in his senses.

Continuing on his rampage in Hades, the navi's body continued to increase in it's power, the whirling tides forming it's razor sharp edges like the god of the sea's trident, ready to strike at any moment. Whist his summoned help turned to spit out another round of shots, one striking each the Buffy, Miner and Totem, causing the latter to about-face and ready it's gouts of flame. (40, 40, 40, 120 BSP). But this in turn managed to get the Totem properly protected as the Miner managed to slip beneath the field and lay down a mine, Courser didn't know WHERE, but there was a trap SOMEWHERE. But all the same, with their swiftness, his Totem could unleash another gout of flame down the field, passing through the Nightmare sadly, but catching both Buffy and Miner in the same breath (Miss, 180, 180, 360 BSP) burning away both of the hit viruses beneath the sea.
Swiftly avenging it's comrades, the Blackmare shrieked in anger, teleporting in front of the Totem out of anger and swinging it's massive scythed hand at it, cutting it's barrier away and forcing it's face back to the serene healing it would deal with next round. But despite all this...Courser was ready to strike back, moving from his spot briefly to attack with a scything flick of water, slicing down the entire Blackmare's body in one clean hit with the pressurized water strike (185, +185 BSP). Finally, charging himself ever further...Courser could feel his strength and speed growing exponentially as his Attack and Rapid were swelled insanely by the powers that be, befitting the envoy of the Shark Cybeast.
With that, Courser would sense another trio of snacks enter his domain...a second Coldhead would appear with a splash to Courser's left, a tiny humanoid in a navi-sized tank behind him and, unfortunately for the sharky dandy, a blowhard of a windbox plopping itself towards his right, just behind him and immediately turn itself on High to blow him away, bubbles and flotsam being blown into him to no effect...as well, the shadows SEEMED to have thinned out enough for an escape attempt to succeed should he want...but perhaps the shark required more food for thought on that front?

RareWindBoxRareWindBox (Wind & Fan)
All viruses in this family are immobile during combat, with the exception of being able to turn to face any direction it wishes. Later versions of this virus may switch between Wind and Fan effects, which requires one action, during which time all wind or fan effects cease. Bonuses and penalties do not stack if multiples of the same virus family exist on the field. Wind and Fan do not push or pull Objects, only creatures.

Attack Damage/Effect: Wind Effect, Northwind
Attack Accuracy: S
Attack Description: Causes a large scale gale of wind to blow across the entire field in the direction the virus is facing. This gale will constantly move all targets this virus considers to be enemies in the direction the wind is blowing, which makes it difficult to land many kinds of attacks on it and allied viruses, such as thrown attacks and close ranged attacks. All those affected by the wind will also have their barriers and auras blown off by a constant Northwind effect.
Element: None
Possible Rewards (Per Virus): Wind, Zenny
Special: Causes short ranged attacks, such as (but not limited to) swords, melee attacks, and flame thrower style weapons, to suffer from a 30% accuracy penalty against targets they are being pushed away from. Both sides of the engagement suffer a 30% accuracy penalty with direct attacks perpendicular to the direction of the wind, and all thrown attacks.
Special: Those allied with this virus may opt to take advantage of the wind to increase movement speed or evasion by going with the wind. They do not suffer any penalties, however. Conversely, anyone may move along with the wind to increase accuracy by 10% for close ranged attacks, assuming the target is in that direction.
Special: Northwind effect to all enemies once per virus action while maintaining wind effect.: 200 HP (Sea) (To Courser's bottom right, blowing towards the upper left)

As the cloak of shadows slipped away again, Courser twisted in place, letting his body move with the circling whirlpool of current that surrounded him. Not enough, and too slow. Surely the network could dredge up more viral activity that this. It wasn't enough. He exhaled, growling in his throat. Off to the side, the shark-form version of himself snapped its attention back in the other direction, locking onto the small figure in the inappropriately cute tank. It lunged, swimming across the intervening space as it jaws split into a serrated hell of teeth aiming straight for the little driver.
Not far from it, the bone-formed sentry that guarded the wreckages continued, shifting as it streamed bubbles and launched its consistent volley of sharped bone spears at two of the new entries. Once again, it spared a pair of shots for the flame-eyes figurehead; the first spears had ripped away the male figure at the bottom of the figurehead, while this pair aimed to strip its protection and rip clean the female figure, leaving just the open-mawed shark shape to blast a final line of raw heat across the battlefield. The final blast, aimed to sear over the tank and the windbox, was all the dilapidated construction seemed to have left; whether from other damaging forces or just under its own disrepair, the figure cracked and broke, splitting as it drifted back down to the murk below. The wood began to rot rapidly, even before it settled.
Courser flexed his fist sand clenched them, stretching out as he found ways to direct the power he was drawing on. The shard seemed small, but the well of what it offered went ever deeper, the more he reached. He could feel its anger and hunger infusing him as he diverted and directed the force into whatever parts of his system that could hold it. It needed to be used, as well, he could feel it surging. Holding it without using it would go badly, instinct told him. With another growl that was half shout and half toothy snarl, Courser raked on hand through the water again, the honed pressure edge of his wave whip extending several long feet from him in the direction of one of the softer-looking viruses that remained – he barely paid attention to which one; they were just points of light in his senses, amidst the murky waters. As his arm swept, another shearing torrent of water lashed down, cutting through the water far beyond him as a deep tidal wave that sought to rake one of them into scrap.
His buster system couldn't really take much more, the more controlled stream of cautious thoughts reasoned in his mind... or at least, normally, it couldn't. He kept pulling on the shard's power, encouraging the source to blend with his own and feed where he directed. It was making its own space, after a fashion, but the shark beast knew only violence and hunger – attacking was where he could exceed the limits; patience and other forms of power direction weren't the same, not for this.
His body turned, scanning the sea around him, then focused on the armoured shell of a virus below. He'd break a tooth on that, but... patience, he schooled the hungry force surging within him; patience. A moment or two later, when the dome of the virus cranked open to attack, Courser felt his eyes widen and his jaw ache with the breadth of his tooth grin. His arm drove forward, stabbing out like a lance with the controlled blade of water and causing a like surge of current to lift from the sea bed, carrying silt and bone fragments with it into a stabbing stream of force that battered at the now-vulnerable virus. He felt the exultant rush of attack, but peered down through the settling sea dust to see if it had been enough to consume the virus.
Around him, he feel the penning shadows flicker and thin, and consciously he reached out through the sea surrounding him, into the area beyond. Not enough.
“Come on... More!” There was gravel in his voice, and he felt the urge to pant; not tired, but hungry and eager. The line between his own feelings and those that came with the power from the beat's energy was growing thin, but he was still himself... just.. eager...

Continuing his rampage, his speed reaching it's fever pitch as it hit it's maximum...as his clone ravaged the Cateen, causing the humanoid virus to immediately launch a cannonball from it's tank, evaporating the clone in the process and outright missing Courser and help, the cannonball exploding out in the distance, more of the precious water draining away and disappearing as it slipped through the cracks. His Needler quickly attacking in turn, one needle striking his Totem and quickly turning it back around and cracking the casing, as well as the Cateen and, surprisingly enough, the Windbox (40, 80, 80, 200 BSP)
Continuing to gather power, the navi's sheen grew, his body about ready to Rip and Tear as he could feel his strength increase by another couple magnitudes. It was at this point, his Totem had managed to fire off one final blast of fire in the depths...and cleared right through the Windbox before it could blow away it's barrier, disappearing into the depths once more (180, +180 BSP).
The Cateen was furious as it's helper had disappeared in flames, but, the one to attack first was the Coldhead...opening wide, the second iceball of the battle lobbed in Courser's direction...and with a resounding CRACK, his shield managed to block the attack, barely standing from the hit...but in return, his entire arm went numb, ice coating both it in no uncertain fashion and his feet just barely above the ice that formed beneath. Whirling around, another pressurized slash of water...another dead virus, the Cateen's entire form sliced in twain vertically with accompanying explosion (185, 185 BSP). More power drawn, more power given, and with another slash through the water, the still open Coldhead would be sliced through, ice covering it's corpse as it floated away and disappeared (185, 185 BSP). And with more power drawn, more viruses. A skeletal monstrosity with arms in a deep grey, another Buffy-F and a Hothead, all lined up (figuratively) in a loose triangle formation to be eaten alive by the shark. Also, those nasty holes Courser made finally patched themselves up, good for them.

Water rushed around him, the force of it making even the smallest flicks of his fingers and wrists bend sweeping currents about him. Courser grit his teeth, panting hard through the sensation as one by one his various systems reached their limit. How much more could his body handle? The shard of power still had energy to give, even now, but he could barely contemplate taking any more, without it tearing his whole form apart. His eyes darted, found targets; fragments of data that he could take and add to his own, and leave their husks as empty remains to fill the broken boneyard of his domain. His ocean; his grave... the sense of his own self melding with the simple, bestial emotions was hard to resist. His body flexed and rippled, shattering the clinging ice and frost away without any real effort.
He lashed out again, his free hand raking around towards the hapless fire-buffy that didn't belong in the dark cold of his ocean. The torrent that formed above and to one side of it crashed down over the virus, attempting to enclose it fully in streams of pressure that began now to look entirely like serrated shark teeth, forming a closing jaw.
He could taste blood, and focused on it. The beast's instinct was fixated on data, raw and broken, not actual blood – his blood, where one of his sharp teeth had pinched the inside of his cheek; he was CourseMan, river navi, and a flirt with too many girlfriends: focus on that.
Beside him, another figure stepped out of his shadow; not the wild shark beast this time, but a real Courser – his Mime clone, arms folded and one eyebrow raised. She didn't speak, but the look said everything it needed to, especially when the thought was already in the back of his head. Someone he wanted to tell her about? Courser closed his eyes and took a longer breath, the hungry smile relaxed into a smaller smile, and he stretched. The fragment fed more force into his body, but as it hit the point of painful strain he mentally wrapped one hand around it and closed the flood gate. That was enough.
“Okay... I've got this, Jen... I've got it...” His voice still sounded ragged, but his clone turned her back to look at the remaining viruses, then swam towards the newly arrived Hothead virus at a more relaxed pace. She placed her hands on her hips as she stopped before it, before reaching out to knock on the top of its dome with large, exaggerated motions. Courser felt the hunger and the anger, but focused his mind now as well; anyone who came after him would find only empty mist and still waters, as they were meant to; even the Courser that would twist and dodge aside from the shot to evade it wasn't real, and it only served to mock and jeer at the remaining viruses while Courser himself was primed to reappear behind whichever virus made the shot, an extra pulse of fresh water to whatever served as the back of its head as thanks.
While he prepared himself to respond to the flow of combat, Courser kept an eye on his main clone. The moment the HotHead presented itself for a proper offence, his hand darted forward again, channelling the power that Squalo's fragment had granted him to drive another storm of bone and tooth-filled water sharply into its open mouth.
“Okay Jen... No more chips now, unless it's one I specifically need, okay? Nothing but its raw power now.” He'd never felt this degree of influence over the water around him before; it felt like the entire oceanscape around him would respond to him at a thought, but even holding the power still like this was a strain that verged on pain.

Power and power still further entered Courseman's systems, he could feel the ice falling off like sheets of rain, as he continued to pour his form into the shard of power. Again and again, he could feel the viruses staring at him as he did so. The Skarab clattering it's bones as it threw a bone towards the navi...and unfortunately for it, missed entirely...though the boomerang bone would be coming back on Courser before long. The Buffy would proceed to give the navi another thing to worry about, a bounding bubble of roiling magma searing through the terrain with every bound...missing yet again, but much like the bone, would be hot on his tail before long...unfortunately, it would not live to see it, being popped like the balloon it was in short order with the roiling tides (370!, 370 BSP).
Slipping underneath a barrier and finishing out his power with the shard, Courser would find himself fired upon by the Hothead, the attack fortunately going wide to the side as it splattered lava nearby, causing the Skarab to smash a bone on the floor in annoyance of the slippery navi. But that came to a head as he slipped beneath the shadows and finish off the Hothead, slicing through it's body in short order (370!, 370 BSP). It was at this point, the Skarab would make an attack...this time at his hired help. Swiftly tossing a bone, the Skarab would attempt to smash through the armor coating it...aaaaaand missing. WHOOPS. Guess it's got another chance at revenge, but otherwise, another trio entered the ring to have a go at Courser. Two familiar viruses, a Metrod and another Buffy-F...but the third was one of them new fangled viruses, a giant lizard in it's egg, scaly claws and on-fire tail poking through a quintet of cracks...with a viewing crack in the shell with a pair of beady yellow eyes and a hiss echoing through.

The Cregg version is a brown scaly egg with red spots. Most notably, it possesses a long gray tail that extends from a crack in the egg's rear, which is constantly on fire. It moves around by emitting flames from cracks in the scaly shell, trying to hit an enemy. The Lizegg is the same, but grows four gray scaly legs and feet that pop out of the egg and two holes at the front for two shining yellow eyes. It retains the tail from its weaker form, though the flames are a bit more intense. The egg grows slightly. Its scales also become stronger which allows it to pop back in for a defensive action. The Raptegg's hind legs grow more so it can stand on them. Its head, similar to that of a raptor but gray, pops out of the egg too and a long gray scaly tail that moves behind him frantically, which is covered in roaring fire. The egg grows slightly again. Same as the Lizegg, it can also pop everything back in for a defensive action, though it is better than its lower version at this.

Fully focused and stable, at least much as he could be, Courser held the power for an extra moment, then moved. Amidst the cold graveyard, darkness wrapped across his body again and blended his form into an indistinct shadow in the water as he darted towards the bony Skarab. His shape split part way, dividing so that one patch of murk made towards the egg-creature as well; this one broke free of the cloaking shadow as it neared, revealing the beast of bone and teeth again, circling as it looked for a place to rend, while the real courser struck forward, sweeping his wave whips around as he met and circled his own target. Each swipe carried a fresh assault of raging current, coming from different directions as he moved, but the series of rapid strikes lasted only a moment before the navi kicked off and shot away in a different direction.
Not far away, the bony needler contented itself with firing lances out towards the various projectiles that now scattered the area; it only had a chance at shooting down a couple of them – the attacks from the Buffy virus were particularly vulnerable, while the Skarab's homing bones weren't, but it made shots at all of them regardless, leaving the viruses alone for now.
Courser didn't slow, sending more concerted pressure into his whips as he crossed the small arena; his form, as insubstantial as it was, flitted almost faster than blinking as he rained successive current strikes down on each of the other viruses in rapid succession. Each one – first the staff-wielding metrod, then the floundering buffy next, and finally the half-hatched egg, was subjected to a disorienting torrent of different strikes, rending back and forth through the water at unpredictable angles while the shadow making them whispered past. After the last strike, Courser spun away, slowing at last and panting a few quick breaths. He'd definitely never moved that fast before, or managed to strike so rapidly at one time. It was almost intoxicating, if not for the growing fatigue he could feel creeping in as his body struggled to deal with the level of over-charged power he was channelling.

Slipping into the murky depths of his environment, Courser was quick enough to avoid the incoming bone, passing through him with little care as he struck back in turn, striking true and demolishing the creature with four hits as it tried to evade his wrath (55x4, 220 BSP). The Lizegg would let out a chirp as it was rushed at, returning the attack in kind as it wreathed itself in fire as it felt the water carving at it's body and ramming through the clone in short order.
Meanwhile, the Metrod, without it's meat-shield, would quickly rush to behind the Lizegg in short order to avoid being caught out in the open, waters dampening it's power in the process as the Buffy rebuked the attack on it's partner with a quick attack, another bubble honing in on Courser as he rushed in for another attack...but by the grace of his Needler's exceptional attacking capabilities, both bubbles were popped before they could reach any targets and the bone was sniped out of the air, leading to an extremely irritated Buffy. Unfortunately, the Metrod attempted to start another round of "Where the meteors go" as it was quickly hit twice (110x2!, 220 BSP) and eliminated. The same would become of the Buffy (110x2!, 220 BSP) and the Lizegg (110x2!, 220 BSP) as they were cut down with quick and easy hits, some of which trying to strike after the fact they were already dead. Three more viruses entering his area, three more snacks. A Fulfire, an older looking Metrod with similar features and staff, a Volcaner, the Volcano-looking virus and a MetalCragger, a massive green colored rock golem with fists to match.

Volcano viruses have the ability to fully heal themselves no matter how much damage they have taken if they move to Lava Terrain, and spend an action on it for this purpose. This type of virus cannot attack while moving, and moving requires an action. Attack power doubles on Coal and Lava.
Area: Netfrica, Hades Isle, NetVegas
HP: 150
Primary Attack Damage/Effect: 30 Fire + Lava Terrain Boost (30 Fire) + Coal Terrain Boost (30 Fire)
Primary Attack Accuracy: B
Primary Attack Description: Erupts, dropping a flaming meteor on one enemy. This attack is stronger when standing over Lava or Coal terrain.
Secondary Attack Damage/Effect: 30 Fire + Burn(5) + Blast1
Secondary Attack Accuracy: C
Secondary Attack Description: Launches a FireBomb at the enemy that sets them on fire if it hits.
Element: Fire
Possible Rewards (Per Virus): LavaCannon2, FireBomb2, Zenny
Special: Can spend an action healing itself if on Lava.
Special: Burn: Status effect lasting 1 turn. Deals Fire damage per action taken by the afflicted.: 150 HP (Near Lava panel) (Sea)
MetalCraggerMetalCragger (Cragger)
Craggers are pretty easy targets, given their size. They also move very rarely, and when they do they move slowly. Their dodge rate is abysmal. They generally rely on their HardBody defense, which reduces non-break damage by half, but doubles break damage. They have high attack power and AoE, but their accuracy is generally bad as their attacks are easy to follow and take time to deliver. Their attack is executed as a Drop Attack, and thus attacks from above, and not head-on. Targets caught underground within this attack's AoE range take an additional 50 Null damage that ignores all defenses.
Area: Netopia, Sharo, Hades Isle
HP: 200
Attack Damage/Effect: 90 Null + Break + Panel Break + WideAttack
Attack Accuracy: D
Attack Description: Slams the enemy and surrounding area with fist. This is executed as a Drop Attack, and is more damaging to targets below ground (IE: Submerged or burrowed).
Element: None.
Possible Rewards (Per Virus): GolemHit2, Zenny
Special: Hardbody.: 200 HP (Back of the field, on Courser's left) (Normal)

More viruses, but at this rate, Courser felt he could deal with them faster than they could find him. He twisted his body in a half crescent and dashed again, raking past the newly arrived volcano virus in a storm of scything water currents that dragged sharpened shards of bone and other debris behind him, lashing at the unfortunate virus repeatedly. With this much force in his motions, he only needed to connect with any of his targets once or twice at most, and he had the speed and strength to batter them far more than that in an instant of time.
The boneyard of ancient skeletons and wrecked ships was starting to look ragged and torn up from the fight now, but Courser let his senses pervade it regardless. Two targets; two points of light in his awareness, unable to hide even in the dark water. He moved again, his shadow shifting until he could blindside the cowering one as it tried to hide; rather than a rapid series of strikes this time, Courser drew some of the charge he'd built up and lunge in directly. His free hand stabbed inward, led by a cutting shear of current, before raking upward to try to wrench the virus apart. The flow of current exploded upwards, forming a geyser of force far above, but Courser was already repositioning slightly to get a clearer look at the hard metal virus next. The currents settled and he drew them in, ignoring whatever attacks it might be attempting. Instead he focused, charging his buster system to breaking point, until it felt like his arms were becoming the water itself. It was too much, he knew, but it was just or a moment.
When he couldn't hold any more, Courser drew his hands back and thrust them forward again, towards the metal virus, palms out and fingers spread in broadly positioned claws. All around him, laser-straight, thin lances of piecing, high pressure water burst forward in a volley of threads that sought to pin the virus through; there was enough raw force behind each slender bar of pressure to punch clean through any creature on the net, or so it felt in the moment. A moment later, the navi wrenched his arms apart, spreading his fingers wide, and the many dozens of piercing pressure sought to follow suite, uncaring of any viruses they happened to be currently driven through.
The currents dissipated once they'd spread out to their full fan, and courser relaxed his arms,. Taking another long, slow breath. Enough. That was enough. The rage and the hunger remained, but he kept it still; there would be more, later. This test was enough for now.

Continuing along his destruction of everything that moved, Courser was quick on his draw, a couple hits missing the nearby Volcaneer, but otherwise drowning the living volcano with little effort on his part (110x2!, +220 BSP). Making his move, trying to get a better angle on the virus behind the goliath of a virus, he was quickly attacked from above...and while his physical well being was just fine, the area beneath him however didn't fare nearly as well, his casing calling away as it had no elemental affinity to draw from. This didn't stop him, however, his blast exploded the Fullfire, data scattering into the shallow waters (1100!, +1100 BSP!).
As Courser charged, drawing more and more power from the beast and himself, the Cragger looked between both navi and summoned help, weighing it's options...it chose to ignore the navi, knowing it couldn't hurt him, and instead went after the summoned helper, a massive fist coming down from the skies...but luckily for it, it smashed through the casing, obliterating it...and nearly deleting the Needler in no uncertain way. But in turn, for it's obstinance, the Cragger itself was torn apart in the ensuing strike against it. Not even a pebble remained of it's existence from the power put on display (1110/2, 555 BSP)
As more and more viruses entered the field, the shadows around the field shrank, another Buffy, another Ravager...and a newish virus, the Tromby next to the Buffy. The field was in shambles, his sea disappearing under the concentrated attacks...what would Courser do?

Gradually. in small groups, the viruses continued to flow in to inspect the odd watery anomaly int heir network, but Courser was done with his test for today, more or less. He glanced around, then lashed out one more time, making a quick circle around the most recent Buffy and slashing at it repeatedly as one final snack, then focused on the sense of home that the fragment of Squalo's power still carried with it. He reached inward one more time, lowered his arms, wide spread and loose, then lifted up with both hands, dragging the essence of the deep sea graveyard back to the surface again. Fresh, freezing water flooded up between the cracks, casting dust and silt with it as new wrecks of long forgotten ships and the sea-worn bones burst up through the damaged terrain, creating a new landscape of dark water and wreckage. By the time the currents stilled and the silt settled, only viruses remained in the bubble of seascape.
Further away, Courser let the last burst of movement carry him to a surfing halt once he was far enough clear of the distracting battlefield to avoid further detection. His whole body trembled with the strain of its current state and the urge to return and continue fighting was... hard to ignore. He grit his teeth and closed his eyes, taking hold of the wild and hungry form and separating himself from its stream of power. The drain was immediate as his form rippled and reverted back to his normal self but the navi staggered and dropped to one knee, breathing hard while he mentally pushed the cross away. It strained against him, but not to the extent he'd been afraid of at first. A few moments later and it stilled, blending back into his other senses and sinking beneath the sea of his awareness again. Courser stood, took a longer breath and opened his eyes.
“Okay... So... that went... Well, I'd say. I'm doing okay, ladies, I think we're fine.” He sagged, still weary from the aftereffects of the beast's influence, and took a few moments to examine what data he'd managed to gather up and pull away with him in the chaos as he'd left the fight.

Attacking once more and ripping the buffy apart like the rest, the navi refreshed his field, protected. The Ravager, however, would make an attempt on the navi's life before he could escape. Slamming a massive hammer down before he could move...and, of course, missing, as well as the secondary hammer attack. Slipping through, and making a mad dash, he left the viruses behind in his sea of influence,

Courser nodded to himself as he filed everything away, then took one more opportunity to look himself over and ensure that there were no other lingering effects from his experiment. Everything seemed to be okay and he rolled his shoulders.
"Alright Jen, that's enough of that. Bring me back and we'll go over the data. There's a few hitches, but I'm feeling better about this now." He listened to her voice in his ear for a moment, before closing his eyes and letting his form melt into shadow.
