Netbattles and Chill

In the brief moment of assessment, the large beast gave up the fight and fled. Courser watched it go for a few moment, just to be sure it wasn't planning anything more, then turned to begin searching the battle scene. After a few moments, however, he found himself turning over his internal thoughts and contemplating how they'd spun out during the battle. He turned a side-long glance towards his clone, still visually appearing as his own Mime-Cross form while he maintained JailBird's. He eyed the decoy up and down with a look that still avoided direct eye contact.

“Her?” As he asked the question, the decoy looked down as well, examining itself. It was still Courser's own form, save for the mild cosmetic and aesthetic differences, but the decoy looked itself over and turned its hands over in front of its face, opening and closing its fingers before eventually nodding and putting her hands on her hips with a thoughtful expression.

“Her.” She nodded a second time as if to reaffirm this, then stretched and moved as though to help Courser gather up the remaining data.... though, naturally, she was just miming the activity and not actually helping at all. Courser shrugged and finished off picking everything up and sending it back.

“Hey Jen, another one of those aura chips coming through. Seems like it might be one of this Hevari's favoured tools at this rate.” He looked towards the valley that the Cerberus had been guarding while Jenny exclaimed at the find.

“You said these were rare, right? If you're not going to use it, do you think we could find a buyer? The chip trade boards are always busy with requests and stuff like that. I've never really looked into it before now.” She sounded excited but Courser was finding it difficult to enthuse. It sounded more like a hassle than anything else. Across from him, his decoy mimed playing a violin with a frown.

“Lazy.” She didn't sound put out, or aggressive, just mildly amused and Courser rolled his eyes. JailBird's laid back influence was infectious. He shook himself out then raised an eyebrow at his clone.

“Sure... You about done?” The clone just shrugged in an over-exaggerated way and as CourseMan let the cross fade both he and his double's visual appearances shifted back to Courser's own original look. The decoy winked at him.

“Well boss, we're making progress, aren't we? You asked permission that time! Hah! See, we're not right insane at all, are we?” He chortled for a few extra moments until Courser waved a hand and banished the form into shadows. Alone again for now, the navi began to move into the area that the large virus had been guarding.

“Yeah, you could put it up somewhere and see if you get any bites, Jen. Eyes open for now though, I'm not sure what we're going to find beyond this point...” He moved with purpose into the valley; if the convoy of heels had guards of their own posted, there was always the chance that seeing him dispatch Hevari's pride and joy in a matter of seconds, and without so much as a scratch, might give them pause from trying to pick a fight. If they had more prisoners, though, he was probably going to disagree with them regardless.

((Moving on, Ready for Battle 16))
Continuing along and heading down the same path into the small-ish gorge that surrounded Hevari's group, no Heels were going after him, despite everything that had happened...perhaps Hevari was making good on her word? But before he was roughly half-way down, the sound of machinery and cogs grinding sounded out in the distance. He was given a few moments to figure out where the noises were coming from before the earth beneath him suddenly parted, sending the navi down into a dark hole and with it, into a hollowed out slide of ice, sending him deeper and deeper into the crevasse for a few moments before shooting him out into a hollowed out cavern within the gorge itself, a very low light surrounding him, but he had enough to see even if it wasn't clearly.

Surrounding him on all sides was icy water and with it, metal bars leading to various cages and hollowed out prison cells full of ravenous viruses on all ends, glowing eyes all eying him hungrily from within the bars. But before he could get his barrings straight, above him in another hollowed out alcove overlooking the area came a navi behind a strong looking glass barrier. Female, a hooked bird-like mask across her face as black leather clung to her surprisingly curvy body, various vials and potion bottles filled with viscous liquids clinging to the insides of the smooth glass bottles on a specifically made belt. Atop her head was a wide brimmed, pointed witch-like hat that drooped back behind her, a leather cloak that hung heavily upon her lithe frame and a pair of goggles that helped to illuminate Courser's surroundings as bright spotlights turned on all around him, giving him a better grasp of the area around him.

Smooth black rocks all around him to create the area he fell into, gemstones gleaming in the bright lights that no doubt blinded Courser for a moment. Welcome, Courseman! You had QUITE the easy time with my puppy I see, but he's a strong pup, he's licking his wounds as we speak, but regardless...welcome to my emporium of viruses! She spoke, boisterously as a gnarled wood cane appeared in her gloved hands, gesturing to the area around him for a moment. The lamented sounds of feral viruses beginning to echo through the area as they began to clamor against their cages. Quite the thorn in my side, you've been. But lets see if you can..."help" me with something. I do appreciate the data I've been given from your battles, quite interesting...and I'd have been gone if that blasted Cybeast wasn't blocking my way through. But for now, you can help me with some more data...how many viruses it takes to get to the center of a slippery navi like yourself as I get Cerby prepped for our escape from the normal nets, hopefully it's asleep by the time I get there...pumped so many toxins into that den it would have killed Cerby a few dozen times over... She spoke, a darker tone than before as her fingers snapped, bars raising from the imprisoned virus' cages...and the looks of the remains of a couple Heel navis in the backs, intermixed with a normal navi that had been half-eaten by this point. But, I am not unreasonable. Survive, please survive if you think you can. One of these gates will open up after a time. Go through, and I'll be happy to let the rest of the surviving normal navis in my custody go, I've done my due diligence on my experiments with them...and I have OH SO MANY Heelnavis I can use now! No doubt those old fucks promised a reward for their return, sitting on a pile of zenny they've accumulated over the last few years no doubt. But that's neither here nor there. Tata~! Hope we meet again, twink! She called out again as she began to leave.

Before Courser could try to go after her, a ticking noise like an egg-timer began to echo through the chamber and with it, viruses beginning to pour out of their cages a few at a time, raised platforms coming out of the water to accommodate any non-aquatic viruses (and Courser if he so chose), a Basher immediately coming in to attack as it was teleported in, a Raingear immediately moving to get into line of the navi as a fatass walla EX flopped out of it's cage completely out of breath before taking up a defensive position perpendicular to him in a diagonal corner...and finally a wheeled contraption began to move out and get into position...just barely keeping above the water as more viruses from the area began to try and escape their cages.

The small gorge felt more than a little cramped as Courser slipped through the assembled collection of Hevari's heels. He kept his eyes open for signs of other captives, but for the time being it seemed as though the remainder either had orders to let him pass, or weren't game to be the first to try their luck.

“And you know it's really not goin' to be the latter, don't you, boss-man?” Beside him, one of his clones slipped out of his own image, skating backwards and just off to the side as it joked. Courser spared the decoy a wry side-eye, indirectly.

“Does it matter? Either they're afraid of her, or they're nervous about me... either way, they know they just aren't hard enough to try it.” He skidded to a halt as he approached the drop-trap; his keen senses were already mapping its limits before he heard the first grinding churn of the machinery, but it seemed as though this was part of the welcoming party, and there certainly weren't any more hostages up here. He let his water eddy carry him out to the centre, spun in a half circle and cast a grin and a wink to the various other navis waiting and watching. His decoy blew a kiss. Just as the trap dropped open, Courser jumped with a small flourish, mock bowing as he did, before dropping into the dark.

He landed, slick and moving quickly on his own waters as they sent him shooting down the slide. He crouched low but kept his footing, while beside him his decoy was laying on his back, hands behind his head and flying along head first into the unknown.

“So, is this a BYO party, and am I your plus one?” It winked while Courser kept his own eyes forward. A moment later they both emerged into an open space, courser shot free of the chute, let the momentum turn him over once in the air and landed with a neat axle spin in the centre of the cavern. Beside him, his decoy landed head first with a far more ungainly crash, bursting from existence and disintegrating into shadow as it did.

“You have my attention!” He called out to the chamber, a grin flashing teeth as he did. Around him, the metal cage bars and the sounds of trapped viruses were details he took in, but didn't give any acknowledgement to as long as there was a show to put on. Barely a moment later, he was met with his answer, appearing from on high in her very own go-go cage, more or less. She probably wouldn't think of it that way, but he couldn't help see the resemblance. As the space lit up he glanced up towards her, one eye closed and his other eyebrow raised.

“Glad the good boy's okay. It's not his fault, after all...” He spoke up in response to her first comment. His tone was relaxed and he didn't bother to shout or raise his voice; there was no doubt in his mind that Hevari would hear him just fine, and if not, the minor irritation of having to turn up her volume was a bonus.

“Nice Ass...” For a brief moment, in the alcove with her, a second Courser leaned on the wall and seemingly appraised the woman. Given her security conscious nature, it likely wouldn't be allowed to remain for more than a moment, but Courser darted his eyes to a spot behind her regardless.

“Oi, she'll never ask us on a second date if you behave like a cad...” He shrugged, then looked back to the woman. “Though if it helps, he was just saying that you've got all the tact and wit of a donkey. He's a bit of a boor like that sometimes.” The relaxed smirk never wavered, but Hevari continued and one part, specifically about her being stymied by an active cybeast, did make his eyebrows rise. In his ear, he could hear Jenny exclaiming in shock and mild panic, but he kept the line privately muted; he wasn't going to involve her in mafia business, even if Hevari herself was a defector.

As she made her offer and the cages began to open, Courser held his ground and resisted the urge to immediately look around. Instead, his main clone stepped out behind him, scanning the room as he held eyes with Hevari herself. He let his own tone drop to match her, though his smile didn't falter.

“Oh, aye... I suppose I could do with a warm up, if my arm's going to last out the spanking you're due... Don't go running away now... I've met your dog; now you get to watch the movie... and after, we'll have some dinner and I'll take you back to mine so we can meet the family, and have some fun...” He watched for an extra moment as she turned to leave, then immediately split left and right with his clone, each of them gliding across the surface of the water for a few steps before diving deep underneath and swimming down towards the bottom.

His decoy had clocked the most immediate arrivals, and he wouldn't be surprised if the water itself was more of a trap than anything else, but he only wanted its cover for a moment. As Courser touched down, he moved in a way that made the water swirl and coalesce into the dark black shape of a blunt-tipped deep-sea mine. The dark water clung to him and obscured his form even as further circling swells and shapes surrounded the depth charge; two additional layers that created a rushing sphere of protective water around the device as courser himself faded almost entirely from sight.

He moved away just enough to focus his attention on the Basher's platform. More would be coming soon, but that was always one to get off the field quickly regardless. He crouched, braced himself and let the waters of the pool draw in a round is hand until they solidified and froze into a rough, spiked bludgeon. When he was sure of the moment, he kicked up, launching himself back to the surface of the water and out in an effort to king-hit the Basher right off its ledge and into the frigid water. As he landed after the strike, Courser let himself coast back and away a step, spinning about and sighting the rest of the field.

With his other hand he threw up his arm and his wave whip stretched out, curving above his head until three long, narrow shards of high-pressure water tore free and arced through the air of the cavern, shooting towards the Walla in the back corner one after the other. Courser pulled his arm down and flourished his whip again while he held the bludgeon low and ready.

“Well, come on then!” He gestured invitation, though the shadows and dark water that obscured his form made it a little hard to read. He glanced down the first time any other attack came his way, letting it pass through his shadowed form, then up at the unfortunate attacker.

“Ah, nope, sorry. Wrong one. Bad luck... guess again!”

Over the far side of the chamber, his clone also climbed out of the water, pulling itself up on the ledge and keeping its back to the wall; rather than a bludgeon of ice, the decoy looked like it was holding his usual water shield at the ready instead.

As battle began, Courser and his shadow were quick to get their barrings straight and in addition, the original ready for any attacks directed at him as the Basher took a chance to make a double shot at the two, but firmly missing the both as it's cannons shot out, causing the creature to let out an annoyed sound at the navi and his clone. With both disappearing from sight as Courser was quick to dive down to the bottom of the fairly shallow pool, cold water washing over his entire body as he set down his bomb and got it prepped for it's dirty work. Meanwhile, the other viruses attempted to get potshots in on Courser as he set himself up, the Raingear going first at this point as it opened it's mouth as widely as possible before causing an explosive spout of water to crest up from beneath the pool, hoping to hit Courser where it thought he was, and just barely nicking the barrier out of sheer luck (15), as the Typhoon virus...unfortunately for it, had to force itself to dive down into the pool and begin to putz around using it's own wind turbine to try and attack Courser from the liquid terrain.

Unfortunately for all the viruses present, Courser was able to get his shadow defenses and ready to get rid of the basher present while putting some defenses up on his ever valiant and useful explosive. The Typhoon, looking back and forth before taking aim at one of the Coursers and let loose a trio of blasts of wind, water displacing as the wind bullets attacked the wrong Courser, causing the clone to disappear upon being properly hit...and unfortunately for the virus it was more or less drowning at this point (5). All the while, the Walla would proceed to creen it's neck down as much as possible, opening up its own mouth and letting loose a pair of massive fangs into the water with a resounding splash, but while the one aimed at Courser managed to pass through his stomach, the other crashed just to the left of the Timebomb. And then Courser immediately made his presence more or less known as a shark of the battlefield, with a resounding upwards punch at the Basher, he launched himself upwards and with it, managed to barely scrape the virus with the massive icy fist, causing the Basher to screech into the area before disintegrating into junk data (180!). The Walla and Raingear proceeded to make another round of attacks at Courser, the former's head turning upwards at the fish out of water before launching a second pair of fangs at him, seemingly undeterred at it's miss and causing the attack to pass through his stomach as he retaliated in turn, unfortunately only one of the three shots managed to even get a hit in edgewise (30) before he was struck again by the Raingear, though the only thing this did was piss it off in return as no visible signs of damage showed on his defenses or the navi himself.

As all this was happening, a trio of viruses began to make their way out of the cages, as was customary in this kind of cage match. A slippery shadowy being with glowering red eyes began to make its way onto the field, around the middle of the field above and near Courser's Timebomb, whilst a rotating roomba-like creature hovering on a puck with a massive mallet hovered onto the normal panels, beginning to slowly move along the outermost part of the field...and then came a rough and tumble looking Swordy virus with a large watery blade, a deeper shade of aqua than what Courser had seen as it began to make its way towards the navi, blade in hand and brandishing it in such a way as it was a threat to the navi.

Shadows do not dodge, and they only move by teleporting before and after attacking an enemy. Shadows have permanent Shadow, except in their bladed weapon forms. Teleporting before and after their attacks does not require an action. Shadow viruses assume the form of bladed weapons when they attack. Shadows attack a single target only each turn, and will attack that target as many times as they have actions. They will only abort their attack if the target is defeated before the turn ends, at which time they will teleport back to their staring position and float there passively until the next turn. The range and reach of their attacks depends upon the type of weapon they become when attacking, and the accuracy of their attack depends on where they attack from. As more viruses appeared, Courser tagged the new arrivals with a careful eye. No room for any of that now; he looked at the Swordy and the Shadow that had arrived and kicked off, racing at a sprint. His body split as he did, one form dashing towards the Swordy while the other moved towards the shadow. Each held one hand back, icy bludgeon in front while their wave whips thinned and elongated into razor sharp blade edges of liquid.

While his decoy darted up to the Swordy, then back around it once, aiming a strike with the water blade that, conveniently went just a little wide of its mark, the real courser closed with the shadow, bringing his back hand forward in a pair of lighting fast sweeps that sought to quardrisect the offending entity before it could cause any problems for him. While is clone juked and tried again on the Swordy, Courser himself ignore the other viruses present in favour of leaving no chances in the immediate moment. If he'd failed to remove the shadow with his first pair of strikes, it received a second set of slashes just as rapidly while the navi manoeuvred around it in close quarters. If one pair of strikes had been enough, however, his follow-up closed in on the Swordy instead, where he struck twice into the gaps left by his clone's movements.

Whilst the Shadow and Swordy were readying themselves to attack, Courser was quicker on the draw, drawing his sword against the shadow, two swift strikes took out the creature as it had attempted to evade the attack, a piercing screech echoing about the area as it was turned into junk data before it could in turn pierce through the veil of Courser's own Shadowy disguise. Meanwhile, his shadow had split off from him just in time to cause the Swordy to panic in it's own way, holding it with both hands and making a massive downward stroke, cutting through the Shadow's form without a second thought and rending the water apart for a few moments, letting out a sigh as it realized it's mistake...and paid dearly for it as it too was ripped in twain by Courser's watery blades shortly after his attacks had rend it's stabby brethren in much the same fashion, leaving it to die with little fanfare. All the while, the Typhoon virus came up for air before much longer, seemingly trying to unclog it's valves of water.

Turns left: 2
As the razor edge of his water blade scattered away, Courser spun in place once, assessing the most immediate threats around him. He could cling to the shadow a little longer still, but after that, his eyes fixed on each of the surrounding viruses in turn. None seemed to have taken an interest in his surprise, down beneath the surface of the water, which was ideal for now. He let himself glide across the surface of the water for a few paces, back towards the centre with a relaxed roll of his shoulders while the obscuring shadows took on an almost mirage-like heat haze and the temperature around his right arm rose gradually. His left, however, remained wreathed in a solid, spiked fist of ice and Courser reversed his direction with a sudden bolt of motion, sliding across to the Walla at one edge of the field in a direct line and bringing the fist up at the virus in a rising upper that carried him off the water's surface and took his body on a half spin before he landed, kicked off the edge of the chamber and shot back along the western edge of the pit, this time aiming for the nearby Dharma instead. The second driving punch carried him past with its momentum, letting him turn easily on his own water eddy and face in towards the middle of the chamber once more.

“Well? Come on lads! It's a party for all, isn't it? Get your arses out here if you want a share of the XP!” He called out with a laugh in his voice, just as the waters near the centre of the area darkened to an opaque black. With a circling swirl, they rose up into a column of black water that twisted and spun, then curved over and deposited a tower of darkness on one of the few solid ledges in the area. It took shape, forming the rotating turret that served as such reliable support fire for the trickster navi. As the water collapsed away from its solidifying form, it misted and reformed into several layers of protective barriers around the turret instead, while the machine itself rotated in place and let its barrels spin up, launching volleys of needle rounds across the area at the viruses Courser had been attacking, and any others it had needles spare for. In the depths, the time bomb clicked over its display, more or less unseen.

As he prepared himself for a later attack, the viruses, furious their only sources to kill Courser were gone, immediately went on the attack. The Walla opening its mouth and shooting a pair of tusks at the navi and his contraption that he laid beneath the water, crushing the barrier wrapped around his explosive with it's shot tusk and managing to miss Courser entirely, while the Dharma would wind up and throw a puck at Courseman's body, the puck bouncing erratically as one pass managed to pass harmlessly through Courser's body before disappearing into a puff of smoke and unless it wanted to dive beneath the frigid waves, despite the internet's blatant disregard of the laws of physics sometimes, it was not gonna get to the more immediate threat as it's counter ticked down.

Grumbling in viral tongue, the Raingear however had no troubles with trying to hit the bomb beneath the waves as it's mouth opened widely and shot a blast of water down through the field and attempting to hit the bomb...but missing by a mile as pressurized water exploded upwards in a completely different area from the bomb's resting place. Courser, taking his own initiative, would immediately make an attack against the Walla as he shoved his fist deep against the Walla's mouth in the same moment it opened it for a second attack, causing its fangs to go off course just enough to protect his bomb without directly meaning to (90), the fangs passing through and smashing into the ground near his bomb respectively. And with his moment, his fist met the Dharma's body, freezing it and the water around it into a frigid popsicle before crumbling away into deleted remnants of itself. Backing away briefly as Courser had easily taken out the Dharma and grievously wounded the Walla, the Typhoon began to backpedal, attempting to get far enough away from Courser in case its attacked...and attacked it was as Courser summoned his trusty Needler companion and with it, shooting out a trio of needles at the group that remained, the trio of bolts managing to sink into the fleeing contraption (120), the Walla taking one in the face as the other two passed through it's deleting body (40) and with it's companions deleted, the Raingear, unfortunately, took the bolts on the chin as it tried to dodge just the same, collapsing quickly at it's death (80), leading to the field being clear...for like five seconds as another trio crawled their way out of the caves

With one, a Null EX slowly moved outside of its cage, glopping about as its maw hung open showing a yawning void within as it roared loudly at Courser. A second Basher teleporting in as it's body situated itself along the shoreline, cocking its guns menacingly and pointing them directly at Courser. And finally, a loud roar of anger as a pot with claws began to clank its way onto the field, out popping a WaterDragon EX virus, segments of its body popping from the pot like a centipede as it let out a loud roar again, dragging a finger across it's "neck".

They also never appear in large numbers in a normal battle, meaning the ratio of total viruses to Bashers should be at least 4 to 1. The attack cycle of Bashers is 2 actions long, regardless of which attack they use. The first attack requires one action to charge before firing, and the second attack executes twice in succession. If they are stunned, they resume their attack cycle where it was halted once the stun wears off. They don't move, and don't dodge.

This high tier virus is only encountered after battle 5. A PotDragon's pot is stationary during battle, as it remains above the panel the virus appeared on until battle is over or the virus is deleted, and will not fall even if the panel below it should be destroyed. PotDragons have two main attacks, each geared towards either ground or aerial targets. When executed, the pot tilts or falls over, and the dragon charges at the enemy before looping back and returning to the pot. When threatened, they will duck into the pot, which is both indestructible and capable of shielding them from all damage and effects except those that manage to fly into the mouth of the pot. Even Beam Attacks and Blast damage won't leave a mark.

Stepping out of the shadows again, Courser was already pulling the silver-worked revolver from his hip and fanning it about the room as his form came back into proper view. One shot each cracked out at the newest arrivals, the recoil of each pull turning into the motion that let him aim for the next target in turn. He spun the weapon about his hand and gestured wide with the other.

“Is this all the warm up you've got? You'd better not disappoint me, doctor! It won't go well for you!” He turned in place atop the surface of the water, beginning to stroll in both direction around the edge of the pool, his clone heading right while he moved left. Each mirrored the other's behaviour implicitly this time, without fanfare or misdirection. Any shot that came the real Courser's way would again be met with his form rolling forward over the surface and coming to stand again, while the real Courser reappeared from the mist behind the unlucky aggressor to take a couple of light punish taps.

As he did, the needler twisted on its tiny ledge, finding new targets and continuing to lay out suppressing fire across the chamber. In between the volleys, the two, possibly three courser clones waved a free hand skyward, flexing a wave whip each to send another trio of icy water shard up and then down again, lancing in at the dragon's pot, just in case it was deciding to hide.

Courser himself moved back towards the centre, watching and avoiding any of the dark vortices that the newest virus had created. He lined up any remaining viruses carefully, then, as his stride reached the frozen patch of ice floating in the water, he bent and scooped it with a single smooth motion, twisted and hurled it across the chamber like a razor-edged discus, aiming to end the dragon while it was out of hiding, if it hadn't perished already. If it hadn't been broken by the Null's irksome tricks, the counter on the timebomb clicked over one last time; the next wave of arriving viruses were going to have a very rude greeting.

(100Aqua, Freeze, A, (small broken terrain)): hurl the chunk of Ice at the dragon when it's not in its pot, if it's still alive.
Quickly readying himself to attack, the Null EX had different plans, setting two whirlpool traps right before he could fire off his revolver, though Courser didn't even need his special abilities to see where the whirlpools were at as they swirled viciously around some parts of the field, missing both his bomb and himself. That, however, didn't stop Courser from firing off at the trio of viruses, out and out obliterating the Null and Basher EXes without even thinking about it. Unfortunately, though he thought his aim was right for the PotDragon, the blast went off towards the sides instead, exploding near it and leaving the usual crater in the field.

Even as he prepared himself for the PotDragon to make its move, the creature stared at him, heated hatred pouring into Courser's eyes if he locked with it. The creature hesitant to attack, but with a fateful roar, it took it's chances and plowed forwards towards him in a wide arc, even the panel beneath its pot changing to a watery hue as it made its way across the field, going straight through Courser and his Needler, destroying the barrier around his helper and getting smacked by his trap in turn, with a very light pinprick against it's skin. And then the fun began as Courser's turret opened fire right near the end of it's charge, getting tapped twice for it's hubris to attack the man atop the water as his body reappeared near the exit after his attack. And with it, only to get punished FURTHER, a trio of needles began to fall towards it's pot as it reappeared, and before it could even attempt anything, it was punished as all three managed to poke through it's hide without a second thought even if it had hidden itself inside the pot.

Growling and on it's last legs, the dragon began to think for a moment, waiting and watching Courser as his Barrier refreshed itself, fully defended, but seemingly unwilling to attack again...taking its chances again, it roared out, charging forwards with intent to kill as it attempted to thoroughly rip apart the navi and managing to claw away the refreshed barrier as he made his attempt to evade the attack, even as it crashed it's face into the wall and reappeared in it's pot, ready to strike again with a massive bump on it's forehead...except that didn't happen...as Courser ripped away the ice flotsam he had created earlier and with a well aimed attack, ripped the PotDragon's head off with the sound of crushed ice echoing through the field.

With a resounding DING, a nearby cage opened and with it, Courser's escape route to follow the crazed doctor. But as was tradition with such ideas, he COULD stay behind and fight and let the navis wait just a little bit longer to be rescued. But as that thought passed through his mind, a second Null began to glop its way through the opening, falling atop the water with a resounding splash. With another, less feral, roar, a bear in a sweater scarf and cap came out on all fours, staring intently at the navi as a block of ice began to form in front of it...and with another resounding splash, a large shrimp-like virus surfaced from the pool, leading to bubbles being spit as it frothed at the mouth...oh, and Courser's TimeBomb was JUST about to go off to give at least one of them a crude goodbye should he have left immediately.

-- Viruses --
TyphoonTyphoon (Typhoon)

This family is an upgrade to the viruses found in MMBN. Unlike their game version counterparts, these roll around on four wheels. They are thus able to move and dodge. All of their attacks have the Wind Type attribute, and thus deal extra damage and other added effects when used on Sand and Snow terrain. The viruses themselves are not able to summon this terrain, however. Their secondary attack is mainly used to counter Object chips or creatures that are closing in to attack them.

ShadowShadow (Shadow)

Attacks from in front of the target are C-Rank, sides are B-Rank, and back-attacks are A-Rank.

They regenerate half of their HP every action and their vortexes have the ability to instantly destroy objects and EJO or delete victims instantly with Gravity Crush. Their strategy revolves entirely around forcing an enemy into a vortex, and their attack choices will always be something that furthers that goal if possible. If not, they will settle for using objects and the terrain to damage or hinder the enemy. They are intelligent enough to use their abilities to cause a great deal more havoc than the average virus.

ColdBearColdBear (ColdBear)

This virus is only encountered after battle 5. ColdBears have one free Movement per turn, but their evasion rate is 10% below normal. The IceCubes a ColdBear generates are objects with AquaBody, which the virus can use as cover or as a weapon. In the latter case, it is possible for the attacks of the player to damage or destroy the IceCube before it hits the player, which will reduce damage or even eliminate the attack as a threat to the player. The flip side is, the IceCubes do intercept incoming head-on attacks even when they are sliding along the ground or flying through the air. ColdBears prefer to maintain a comfortable distance from their enemy, but are not above attempting to summon IceCubes in the same space as an enemy if they find themselves in melee range.

Area: Sharo

HP: 200
Primary Attack Stage 1 Damage/Effect: Summon 50 HP Aqua Element Object with AquaBody
Primary Attack Stage 1 Accuracy: S (B vs Players)
Primary Attack Stage 1 Description: Creates a 50 HP block of solid ice directly in front of the ColdBear that is completely immune to Aqua Element attacks, but weak to Elec. The virus may opt to use it as cover, or launch it at the enemy. If an enemy or object occupies the panel directly ahead of the ColdBear when it summons an IceCube, the IceCube is destroyed, and 50 Aqua Damage is dealt to the target.
Primary Attack Stage 2 Damage/Effect: Up to 50 Aqua + Break
Primary Attack Stage 2 Accuracy: C
Primary Attack Stage 2 Description: Launches an IceCube at the enemy as a Free Action. This can be performed at any time the ColdBear has an IceCube before it. If the cube connects, it deals Aqua Break damage equal to its current HP, and is destroyed. If not, it remains on the field. It can even fire them into the sky.
Secondary Attack Damage/Effect: 10 Aqua + Line Attack + Ground Attack + Object Absorption
Secondary Attack Accuracy: C
Secondary Attack Description: Launches a giant snowball that absorbs objects in its path, adding to the damage it can deal with every object it picks up. Adds half of the HP of all absorbed objects to damage.

(Where Null EX and Basher EX were at, where Courser missed and the massive chunk of ice he hucked at the creature)
Courser turned from the open cages as the chime sounded and began to walk towards the now open doorway, his footsteps treading light across the surface of the water until he could step up and onto the solid lip of land at the edge. Beside him, his clone reformed from the shadows, walking with an equally unconcerned swagger. A few steps into this strut, a heavy thud of sound and force rocked the chamber as the water exploded upwards, driven by his exploding mine beneath the surface.

Courser didn't glance back, but in amongst the spray and falling debris, his needle turret spun in place and shot additional rounds of flechettes at anything that survived the explosion. The angry sounds of the bear in particular causes the navi to raise one casual finger and gesture with it to one side. Near to the bear, a final wall of icy water rose up from the pool and crashed down again, seeking to drench the creature and freeze it solid as Courser stepped through the doorway in search of both the navis he had to ensure the safety of, and ultimately, his new quarry; the doctor responsible for the experiments.

With an explosion of great power, water displaced as the explosive itself brought ruin to the new viruses, sending the Null back to hell from whence it came, and grievously wounding the other two viruses that were there. Roaring out as it created a cube of fresh ice almost immediately after in retaliation...and found out it was the right move as Courser's Needler immediately sending out flechettes and nailing the cube twice, crumbling it to icey dust and nicking the Shrimpy before it could move out of the way, deleting it with little effort. And with a final hearty farewell, sent a spike of ice through the Bear's body, deleting it on the spot as he walked away from the fight, reaping the rewards wholeheartedly as his PET picked it all up

BasherBasher (Basher)

Basher viruses are the top-tier of the stationary gunnery viruses with an unmatched single-shot damage output among the normal viruses. They are also the rarest of their class, and appear only after battle 5.

Area: Sharo

HP: 120
Primary Attack Damage/Effect: 60 Fire + Break + Panel Break x3 Targets, 1 Action Charge

It may target empty panels and objects as well as enemies.
Secondary Attack Damage/Effect: 10 Fire x3 Targets + Double Attack

ShadowShadow (Shadow)

Attacks from in front of the target are C-Rank, sides are B-Rank, and back-attacks are A-Rank.

Area: Sharo, Hades Isle, NetVegas

Dharma move and dodge at average speed. Their puck attacks rebound off of the edges of the battlefield as if there were an invisible wall there. They can rebound up to 3 times before finally passing off of the field or dissipating into thin air. The pucks pass through anything they hit except boundary walls, terrain, and friendly viruses. The pucks can not damage other Dharmas. This virus cannot attack while moving.

Null EXNull EX (Null&Void)

Null&Void viruses are extremely dangerous top tier viruses. No player should encounter one until at least battle 6. Null&Void viruses move and dodge at an average rate by walking normally, but they also teleport before and after executing their melee attack.

This attack may only be executed once per turn at the beginning of every turn, and does not require an action on the part of the virus. Whirlpools never appear over Missing Terrain and cannot be summoned on Broken Terrain. Terrain changes have no effect on whirlpools, at all, as they have been known to float in mid air over even Broken Panels once they have been summoned.
Secondary Attack Damage/Effect: (Teleport) then (20 Aqua + Impact + Knockback)

Tertiary Attack Damage/Effect: 20 Aqua + Piercing + Altitude Change
Tertiary Attack Accuracy: D
Tertiary Attack Description: Generates a gravity ball and throws it in a straight line. The gravity ball travels slowly, but will pass through anything that stands in its path.

Going through the exit as the bars immediately closed behind him to prevent other viruses from getting into the area, a large staircase stretched up above him and slowly curved upwards along the way and continued up until he finally made it to a small room, the same one that Hevari had overlooked, a clear glass pane that had quite the masterworking on it despite everything. The room was fairly sparse, a couple tables with some mechanical items, as well as flasks full of a glitchy viscous looking liquid within. A book no bigger than Courser's head laid upon a second table that had various scrawl, nicks and cuts all across it's surface. Between the mechanical items on the table, the flasks and the book, there was but a single door leading into a wide area, a trio of Normal Navis in verious states of disrepair bound in the middle of the area...she at least said she freed them, weather or not they were even conscious right now was up in the air, they weren't exactly moving at this point...
As the grate shut behind him, Courser moved forward more cautiously, footsteps light on the stair until he arrived at the place he'd seen the good doctor before. He glanced back down through the glass observation window while, a few feet from him, a second Courser emerged from the shadows again and stalked forward into the rest of the room. Courser himself turned to follow, though he kept his eyes alert for other entries and exists while his decoy moved past the experimental flasks and odd contraptions to get a closer look at the remaining navis. The clone glanced back with a shake of his head.

“Not looking good. Got any of those recalls for navis that can't travel?” Courser himself was already pulling three of the letter marks from his coat pocket, still keeping his gaze at the rest of the room while his clone assessed the trio. Once he made it tot he centre of the area, his decoy stepped back, turning to pass his gaze around the chamber and keep alert while Courser looked over the three himself, remembering each of their details as near as he could in a quick glance.

“Jen, pass me that restore quickly, if you would...” He murmured, mostly at a whisper. In silence the chip came through; it almost felt like Jenny was holding her breath as well. Courser snapped his finger, spreading a light restoring most across one of the injured navis while he applied the chip data to the next. A moment later he misted the third one as well, seeking to stabilise and rouse them, at least to whatever passable state he could manage. As the mist did what it could, he paused to see if any of them were conscious enough to talk, but if they weren't he was ready to place one of the letters on each of their chests and get them sent home quickly.

As he did this, his secondary clone slipped out around the lab benches opposite him, bending his head to peer at the book and examine the cover. Probably research notes, he guessed. Carefully the clone lifted the cover, flipping it open, though it almost phased through its fingers in the process.
As Courser ran up towards the captives, they were in various states of disrepair, though mostly it was surface-level scarring, a couple had small chunks taken out of their hands or feet, but otherwise they seemed to be newer models of NormalNavi, easily from the last five years at worst estimate. The navis, as their repairs began to take root slowly stirred from their respective slumbers, though they were still bound, Courser could easily remove the bindings since they were around their torsos and around their legs in a couple places.

"OOoooogh...man, last time I take a trip from the city..." One mumbled as it shook off the induced slumber, the other two rousing slowly in turn as they looked around, a large room without a ceiling, cold air whistling through the area as a couple doors within could be noticed, one for each cardinal direction, though they were seemingly labled as "Janitor's Closet" to the north of Courser, "Escape Route" to the east and "Experiment Closet" to the west...though for all Courser knew, Hevari was trying to throw him off her trail and mislabeling these doors, she could have had enough time while he was scrapping down below to deal with the doors in a way she decided. "Ooooogh. Sorry y' had to come save us like this..." Another finally spoke as they roused from their unconscious state, grunting as they began to stretch at the bindings and failing to break them. "Gotta get her back for what happened...just wish we could have managed to fend her off..." The third finally spoke, cricking their neck as they looked upwards at the sky. "Just hope our friends didn't suffer too long...think only one of the "experiments" even remotely succeeded, though...it still wasn't what she exactly wanted." The same navi spoke simply as they let out a sigh.

Meanwhile, as his clone began to look through the book, page after page was scrawled upon in ink. Between inane ramblings from the "good doctor" herself and the scrawl on the pages in various equations, seemed she had been trying to create a way to break boundaries between viruses and navis in one way or another...though from the looks of the words on the pages, it was originally a Techari funded project, things broke down eventually however as they caught wind of her using new recruits in these "Navi-Virus" experiments, most of which ending in failure and Techari pulling the plug completely. Afterwards, a "new investor" stepped forward, setting her up beyond the Normals, even beyond the Rogues and plopped her lab in the Chaos nets of all things. Though she was forced to use a "power limiter" of sorts, if only to make things easier for her to slip by, so even IF Courser took her on right now she'd probably be "takeable", but it was not necessarily her "full power" as she put it bluntly and she herself couldn't remove them until she got down below. As the book gets into more and more recent territories towards the back of the book, Courser's name began to pop up in the last few pages that had things written upon them. Though harsh, she wasn't discounting him or his prowess...
While Courser gave his immediate attention towards properly freeing the injured navis as they roused, the clone on lookout edged towards towards the door marked as the janitor's closet, carefully pushing down the handle so it could peek through, while the one reading Hevari's notes faded away. Courser nodded to the other navigators.

“Alright, I'm going to try and catch her up before she escapes, but you three should clear out. These links will take you somewhere safe, and you can stay there if you want to, but you'll be able to go wherever you need to after that, otherwise. Get yourselves safe for now.” As he made sure that they each had the means to get out, his mind worked quickly. Hevari spoke like she was underestimating him, but her notes showed a more careful perspective underneath... not entirely like his own obvious bravado, covering for the careful and analytical tactics and due measure he gave to each danger he faced. A power limiter would certainly help her hide from any mafia members that didn't like her going off on her own, though it was something to be cautious of; even if she was relatively weaker, that wouldn't reduce her experience or, potentially, her arsenal.

He turned and nodded while his clone inspected the doorway and looked sideways as a second one carefully worked to open the one marked as experiments, fumbling with clone fingers until its mild tangibility managed to work the handle. Courser himself stood back; he briefly contemplated asking the navis if they'd seen her before they left, but they'd been out of it when he arrived, so it wasn't likely. Instead, he took a stance to wait and see what was behind each door, ready to make a move in either direction if it looked promising, or to defend himself it traps or monsters were waiting.

((Ready for Battle 17, or further exploration))
Opening up the "Janitor's Closet" Courser's clone was greeted with a long looking, dimly lit corridor that would take a while to go through, though it seemed to lead outside of the chasm that Courser had found himself in as a cold blast of air hit his clone in the face from within. Though as he gave the navis their links, they quickly managed to escape from the area, seemingly not having more information, but as he opened up the Experiments door, and with it, the frozen carcass of a creature meeting him from within a large glass tube.

Various computers dotted about as they monitored the creature within, though it hard to tell what it was...it was a bipedal creature, one with four legs and each foot rounded out like a Normal Navi's and each foot having a trio of claws affixed to each like a creature of it's sort would have. It's coloring was bright green and a darker shade of white, almost a grey, covered the creature's body from head to toe and with it, his head trailed up to see that it didn't have just -any- head...it was more akin to a centaur than anything, the top half of a Normal Navi affixed where the neck would be, trailing up, there was a pair of large slimy looking tentacles that replaced it's arms, small almost unnoticeable barbs embedded in each before reaching it's head...or what was left of it, half the skull was completely gone with just a single beady red eye that moved about the head despite it's frozen state. And just across the frost, Courser noticed various...gashes...pus ridden wounds that afflicted it's lower half, along with boils that seemed all but ready to burst if not for it's frozen state, each in a different state of fullness and redness and with that, he noticed the "claws" attached to each foot were...in various states of disrepair, some were bloody looking, others still had been chipped or broken, though each claw that had remained whole curved into a scythe-like shape with gleeming points to each wrapped within an onyx colored coating of bone and calcium.

But if he chosen to move away from the Experiments door and open up the "Escape Route" door, instead of the same thing he saw from the Janitor's Closet...it was a wall of fresh blue ice that prevented him from moving forwards instead, with a crudely drawn middle finger etched into the surface of it. So, he could continue to look over the frozen creature within the last door or make his way down the path and continue his search for Hevari, though down stairs the sound of rattling metal bars could be heard and viral screams therein.
With the doors open and the injured navis gone, courser spared a glance for each through his various eyes and darted forward through the long passageway after his main clone. There was a chance that the ice wall was a genuine block, but he doubted it. More likely it was a trick, he thought; an exit point that was seemingly blocked off, that he could spend precious time melting through... only to discover a dead end behind it. The other experiment was beyond his help as well, and there was no point poking that nest while he might still catch up with the good doctor herself.

Ahead of him, his main clone ran in step, then stepped into a gliding forward surf as water picked up under its feet. A short way behind, Courser mirrored the water eddy, keeping his clone at least a good dozen feet ahead and focusing most of his attention through its eyes. If Hevari had any other fun tricks thrown behind her, at least the clone would meet them first and he'd know the best way to avoid them – he wasn't going to lose time over excess caution right now.

((Continuing down tunnel quickly. Ready for battle etc.))
Rushing through the dimly lit hallway, Courser's traversal through it continued on and on, more than a few minutes passing as he made his way through, a second door at the end of the area, and with a quick opening of it, Courser was briefly blinded again by light, natural this time instead of man-made. As he began to readjust his eyes again, cold Sharo winds blowing over him as he stepped out of what he could only assume to be a plateau on the side of the mountain...and with it, a look over at the terrain that stretched below...including what seemed to be a massive sea that stretched out across the area within sight. But more than that, a single blue data crystal could be found twirling about in the middle of an obvious trap, a quartet of open holes diagonally from a small square of normal paneling.

But as Courser began to try and retrieve the data chest, from the skies above a quartet of viruses. An icy blue lamp settling itself right in the middle to the furtherest north of Courser, between two of the missing holes in the ground. A large shrimp with dark aqua and golden coloring dropping towards the west, again between two of the missing holes as ice covered everything but a small portion of the area in the middle...where the other two dropped down, a Basher to the front of the BMD, facing courser, a virus he was already EXTREMELY intimate with, and a massive pile of grey rubble that took up the area behind the cache and towards the left of it. And then came the roar of a hole dragon, as it slithered up out of the ground and had a heavy golden crown atop it's head, ready to tussle with Courser himself. If this was a ploy on Hevari's part or not, that answer was still up in the air, but otherwise, he had a battle on his hands weather he wanted it or not.

Gigas EXGigas EX (Gigas)

The Gigas are a clan of 8 foot tall viruses whose semi-humanoid bodies are made of a durable metal alloy. Gigas lack legs, and instead roll around on a 3 ton solid steel ball 2-feet in diameter that rests in a cupola. Rising from the top of the cupola is an alloy pillar that supports their metal bodies. The Gigas fight with their huge iron fists, which are provided their immese striking power by large barrel-like forearms. Their great-helm-like heads sit directly atop their shoulders with their blocky hinged jaw slanted in a sneer while their neon-red eyes radiate their hatred of all things Navigator. It is speculated that Gigas are a hacked derivative of the Bladia viruses spliced together with fragments of other viruses and a healthy dose of battlechip program data. This would account for their size, strength, and malicious nature. Where and how this was possibly accomplished is unknown. Gigas move at increased speed, but dodge at a slower than average rate. Gigas viruses prefer to pummel the life out of their foes with their bare hands (even though using the ball-and-chain in melee range would be more devastating), but if they find themselves surrounded or at a great distance to their target, they will use the ball-and-chain to perform a HammerToss. If an object blocks their path, they will either send it flying with a GigasArm attack, or smash it to dust before continuing on. Gigas will sink like the lead weights they are in liquid, and they know it. They will avoid liquid terrain entirely, if possible, and will never appear near these types of naturally occuring terrain for this reason. Only a Gigas' body is damageable. Striking a Gigas' cast iron arms will not damage the virus or the arms themselves, no matter what you hit them with. The Gigas' will not intentionally defend themselves with their arms, as they should be too busy pummeling or hurling something to bother. Do not abuse this.

Shrimpy EXShrimpy EX (Shrimpy)

Shrimpy viruses are able to move between attacks as a free action, however dodging still costs them an action. They must pause movement to attack. Shrimpy viruses may move over fragile panel types without damaging them, such as moving over Cracked panels without breaking them. Shrimpy viruses cannot be forcibly submerged or smashed through fragile panels, even if thrown. They can submerge of their own free will, however.

Elemperor EXElemperor EX (Elmperor)

Elemperor viruses are Planeswalker viruses: their attacks and abilities all depend on the terrain they stand upon. Pay attention to the special sections of their stat sheets, as those will tell you what types of terrain must be present for an Elemperor to appear (this terrain requirement naturally overrides the Network's terrain selection). All Elemperor are immune to any adverse terrain effects... except damage multiplication, of course. They attack every action they are able to.

Basher EXBasher EX (Basher)

Basher viruses are the top-tier of the stationary gunnery viruses with an unmatched single-shot damage output among the normal viruses. They are also the rarest of their class, and appear only after battle 5.

Area: Sharo

It may target empty panels and objects as well as enemies.
Secondary Attack Damage/Effect: 20 Fire x3 Targets + Double Attack
Secondary Attack Accuracy: A
Secondary Attack Description: Fires a 3-shot spread from the left arm cannon, then follows up with an identical attack from the right arm cannon just after. Each cannon shot requires an action, and both attacks must occur one after the other.

-- Battle 17 Ready? Start!! --
Leading with his decoy, Courser's own eyes were slightly less dazzled as they emerged into the open Sharo air again, and looked out across the valley and down to the frigid ocean beyond. He scanned for signs of his target's passage as he moved forward, but the only major signs of habitation were straight ahead.

“Courser... She mentioned a cybeast before. Are you sure about this? What if it's just a trap? I know the news reports say that a bunch of navis destroyed most of the active beasts a while back, but there's been reports from other message boards that they didn't stay that way for long. What if she wasn't bluffing?” In his ear, Jenny sounded more than a little concerned, but she still hadn't put her foot down or pulled the plug yet. Perhaps the earlier conversations had swayed her enough to let him see it through. His clone looked around for any evidence as they approached the isolated data crystal, but Courser's eyes were towards the sea beyond; Sharo's beast had once ravaged those frozen waters, and if something of its ilk, reformed or reborn, was blocking Hevari's escape to the lower nets, she might be starting to feel like a caged beast herself. What way would she jump, he wondered.

“Heads up, boss-man. Got some not-so-friendlies here!” Broken from his thoughts, Courser paused for just a moment as the flurry of viral entities appeared to ambush the data crystal's location. He only stopped for a moment, however, then kept on, gliding straight forward while his decoy split off to the right, circling the centre part way and training one extended arm towards the crowned drago. Water built up along its arm, forming the impact-diffusing structure of a large water canon as it readied to fire, while Courser himself let his body merge into the obscuring mists and snows again. Around him, and around the crystal in the centre, a wreath of spray lifted up and circled, covering the more fragile of the two in protective layers while Courser's own protectives were much harder to see through the shadows.

A heat shimmer joined the wavering darkness as he pulled his familiar silver-worked pistol and aimed dead ahead on his approach. The Basher was first, blocking his way, while the next two resounding shots veered out to the sides, targeting the hard-metal virus with too many arms, and the lamp virus.

Without slowing, Courser vaulted the space he'd just shot at, skidding around to a halt and slamming his hand back against the crystal and accessing its data before it could undergo any more risk.

As the Elemperor began to charge up an icy fire at Courser or his clone, the real one began his usual trickery, his processes forcing himself into a state of intangibility for the time being before a chilling flame erupted from it's nose and sent a chill running up the spine of his clone, dissipating it immediately as it failed to attack the actual NAVI that was trying to muck up it's day. Meanwhile the Bluegon was angered at this seeming slight against it's subject and in retaliation sent a blast of icy water at the navi himself, though not without chilling the navi a bit further, seemingly doing no damage to him at all whilst the BMD was given a proper defensive coating for the time being, giving Courser a wider breadth of error despite the virus' best efforts. Roaring out defiantly at him, the Bluegon began to make commands to it's subjects in viral tongue, claws pointing and waving about along the field.

Though despite everything, Courser loaded up his rounds, ready for his next move. The Gigas was up next and using the massive metal fists it had, the virus quickly sent a fist up over the head of Courser and attempted to bury him into the ground...only to instead just crack the paneling beneath him, sending shockwaves reverberating across the field despite it's best efforts as the Shrimpy, annoyed at the navi, took a different approach and sent a bubble flying at the nearest Rockcube, the bubble popping upon impact and spreading foam all over the protected data cache as he took his aim, despite the attack cracking the ice beneath his feet, though it still held his weight regardless. In that moment, Courser could see the Basher begin to charge up it's main cannons, readying itself for an explosive attack, not just on Courser but on the BMD in turn. Whipping out his trusty pistol and loading it's hot and ready ammo into it, Courser let loose his weapon upon the viruses and with it, managing to eliminate the Basher completely, as his second shot veered off course and exploded far beyond the battlefield's length and managing to eliminate the pesky Elemperor on top of that.

even as the Gigas angrily pumped it's arms in a rude gesture at Courser...multiple times at once even, as Courser began to vault his way towards the BMD, the resulting angery shrieks at him in viral tongue as the Bluegon and Shrimpy attempted to eliminate his prize as the Shrimpy made another pass at the Rockcube, it's bubble hitting the rock and spreading over to the BMD, stripping away it's protective barrier entirely as the Bluegon's attempts to destroy Courser's cache failed as it's icy breath had gone extremely wide and without hesitation, he opened up the vaulted item and with it...chip data getting sent to Jenny's PET, ready to be extracted at battle's end, even as the multi-armed monstrosity's Ball and Chain passed through Courser's body in it's entirety, crashing into the area behind him. And then, as things quieted down for a second, the sound of gnashing metal began to perpetuate through the air, the Basher and Elemperor coming back to life a little worse for wear, but still waiting to absolutely destroy the rogue in their midst...not that -he- had any issue with that, he was practically untouchable to them.
