To be honest allowing users to run JavaScript in their signature isn't really the wisest of decisions either. It could very easily be used to steal account passwords by messing with the login box.

While I'm well aware that Java is a buggy piece of crap and not to be relied on, what exactly does that have to do with the JavaScript that Drakim came up with? Javascript only used the name Java to get a popularity boost back in the day, it has no relation to Java VM execution wise.
The age old cross site problem it's always had aside, I don't see anything particularly wrong with it.

Meh. Guess it's just me then. Whatever I suppose, just going by how it was when I actually hung around though I honestly can't imagine it changed that much.

RE: Cross/Multi-Navi suggestion/idea
The "unsmart" feeling of busting is pretty boring, yes. However, team busting does suck. It takes every drawback of the medium and makes it far more noticeable.
But first, to counter your counter.
I don't know of many mmo's that arbitrarily increase a world mob's power just because you are in a group. Almost all of them have areas, usually instances, that are designed for small groups or raids. These are not the "open world" as the net would be synonymous to. The raids and instances of most mmo's would be more like the events that were once held around here, designed for larger groups of people to get together and work to coop an insurmountable force.
However, some Tower Defense games I have played do scale enemies based on amount of players, but I would consider this a far cry from a tower defense game.
1. Turn-turn around.
In a solo round you post, mod posts, you post again, etc. If you're lucky, you may get a couple posts a day. If you aren't, you may get a few a week due to busy/conflicting schedules.
In a team fight, you need to wait for two (or more) people to post before the mod goes. Sure, if memory serves there's still the 3 day rule, but by that time who cares? You might all have incredible timing and get a few posts a week, or you could all have horrible timing conflicts and get 1 or 2 a week. Even with the slight increase from throwing extra enemies at people that 2 posts a week (assuming the three day rule was called 2 times a week) still won't keep up with the several posts a week most solo busters enjoy because they have more to kill to start with.
2. Risk v Rewards
As loosely demonstrated above, solo busting is the "less risky" route to take for trying to get posts made. Which means you end up getting more faster.
Team busts take longer, having a higher risk of your battle stalling and taking forever, and you get a few fxp as compensation. Your battles are scaled "to difficulty" so that rewards can be kept the same as if you were solo busting.
I'd propose simply increasing the rewards you get for solo busting. Make rarer chips drop easier. Extra bugfrags if one of you has a pet. Maybe make harder enemies spawn in group fights with a chance to get their chip at a place unavailable to solo busters. Make team busting look as good as solo.
Crosses are nice and all, but they aren't something you can rely on all the time like 20 extra HP or one extra heal chip or enough room to slot that last piece of your ultimate defense program setup.
And lastly, the simple fact is this - if team busting was worthwhile compared to soloing, people would choose to do it. Since only 4? people choose to do it out of everyone here, I'm fairly sure the numbers would say that it's missing something.

RE: Cross/Multi-Navi suggestion/idea
The problem, as you've stated yourself, is that there is really only one incentive to team bust, and that is to get a cross. If we you guys ever went about making teaming worthwhile for any other reason then perhaps this idea wouldn't have met as much opposition.
The problem with this idea isn't the idea- it's fairly solid and not so horribly easy to use that it negates team busting. The problem is team busting sucks balls, just like it always has. Maybe think of a rework to how team busting works to make it more engaging, interesting, or challenging. And not just "We'll send out 12 mens instead of 6!", but actual challenges that may require teamwork or some thought to overcome with the best results.
I never actually understood why people immediately scaled up the battles with a team anyways. Do they automatically scale up the bad guys numbers/strength in mmo's if you team up and try to kill something a few levels higher? DnD? LoL? I realize that we're a bit limited here to what we can do in such a situation, but making the enemies smarter with more people seems like a far better option than just sending out endless hordes. Then again, I believe most enemy encounters are pretty dumb to start with... but yeah.
I could probably think of more, but I have a sore throat and my dinner is done. So I'm going to go torture myself with delicious pain.

I'd dig one. I can trade you an Oshawott with nightslash, brine, or air slash in return as well.
Totally got a female Oshawott as my starter. U gais jelly.
Edit: It occurs to me that I would like it to have a beneficial nature for special attack. Sacrifice attack if you can :3

RE: Wanted: Answerman.EXE
Miyu walked to collect the zenny, plopping down on the ground as she did. "This mission sucks, Leon. Why'd you have to go and get the hardest mission ever for our first one?"
"Hey. I didn't think we'd have this much trouble, especially not against someone called Answerman. I mean seriously, he sounds like someone who'd host a quiz show. I figured he'd just ask you how much you thought an item cost without going over."
"They don't really have game shows like that, do they? It sounds stupid."
"O-of course not! Who would spend free time watching others guess how much a new stove is worth? I mean... ehehehe... that's just a waste of time..." Leon's voice trailed off as he tried to play off ever watching such a show. "Anyways... let's see if we can finish this. One way or the other, I guess."
Miyu let out a sigh as she stood, the effort taxing her sore frame. She walked slowly along, keeping an eye out for more virii or some possible trail to follow to her target. "You owe me a nice long soak in Yoka after this..."
((Batter up, I suppose.))

RE: Wanted: Answerman.EXE
"Well, I guess that could have worked better." Leon slotted in what he planned to be the finishing blow.
Miyu formed a small military looking handset in her hand, mumbled something about Charlies and Foxtrots into it, tossed it over her shoulder as it disappeared. A few seconds later a squad of short, squat mechs teleported down in front of her. They only came to her waist, but each was carrying a menacing looking butcher knife. The looked around the field, spotting the two stunned virii, and immediately charged at them as two separate groups. Their knives raised high and their battle shouts sounding like from odd chiptune from yester years, they sliced and stabbed the two enemies left on the field. Or at least that's what it looked like from where Miyu was, there we so many of them in each group she had a hard time telling just what exactly was going on. She hopped around, trying to get a better look, but nothing helped much.

RE: Wanted: Answerman.EXE
Leon saw this as their chance to turn the fight quickly in their favor. He sent Miyu the data for a Bubbler, as well as Thunder and Zapring. He lastly sent their Recov10. "Miyu. Hose those bees down so they don't get a second chance. Stun the other two viruses, and when you have a break in the action patch yourself up a bit."
Miyu didn't acknowledge the orders in any particular fashion, instead busy making sure the bees were at a safe distance, using her wings to help her hops around the field while making sure to avoid the web looking area that the one virus had just created. She loaded the bubbler mid jump, spinning around to face the bees and readying her shot. As soon as she landed and was stable, she fired a mass of bubbles at the bee swarm.
She then dispersed her weapon, instead forming a glowing and crackling yellow ball in each hand. She sent the first rolling along the ground like a bowling ball, headed for the first mystery virus. She fired the second at the flying virus, the ball spinning and morphing into a ring during its flight. Without taking her eyes off her enemies, the used the recov chip, it taking the form of a patch alternating cool and warm, and stuck it on her arm.

Ex: Gust to stay away from bees.
1. Bubbler to Bees. [50 + Spread 1]
2. Thunder1 to ???A. [40 + Stun 1 + Homing]
3. Zapring1 to ???B. [40 + Stun 1]
4. Recov10 to self.

RE: Wanted: Answerman.EXE
Miyu let out a long breath, clenching her teeth as she tightened her grip on Corruption. She was getting tired, and her body was covered in tender spots from the attacks she had been taking. I've got to finish this soon, or else I might not make it through.
Leon could see how tired she was getting without looking at the status screen. He was agitated with himself, thinking back on how he probably should have spent some money on a good recovery chip or two instead of hoping that a single Recov10 would be enough to get them out of tight spots. He quit clearly put better recovery chips on his mental to-do list. Then he focused his attention back on the problem at hand: finishing this fight and, if possible, finding Answerman to complete the mission. He began to weigh their options.
Miyu, meanwhile, had already decided to take action. She was hurt, but there were two targets very close to her that were begging to be finished. He scythe began to faintly glow, turning transparent, as she moved towards one of the instruments that had just used her as a tuning fork. She wasted no time swinging at it, aiming to chop the virus in half with a single swipe and adsorb some of the data from it as it was deleted to heal her own damage.
She quickly freed a hand and formed a glowing mass of energy, which she held on to while creating a gust and blowing herself away from the remaining Melody. Once she had landed she threw the energy at the virus, hoping the crackling electrical energy would be enough to finish it off.
She turned to the remaining two viruses and with her free hand shot an electrical jolt at the lumpy one. She fixed her grip on Corruption and made sure to not hold still, not wanting to give whatever was left a free shot at her.

That... that was terrible. What a pitiful creature. Miyu frowned at the Wisp, feeling pity for the amalgamation of lost souls, and quickly began to move away from it.
Leon let loose a sigh of relief. "That could have gone far worse. Glad to see you shook it off so easily." Leon grabbed his chips, and sent the AreaGrab, AurHead1, and shotgun. "Line 'em up and tear 'em apart, Miyu. We have a Man to get Answers from!"
Miyu quickly activated the AreaGrab chip and moved so that she had lined up the wisp and the melodies, preferring the stronger looking one, but made sure to keep some distance between the Wisp and herself. She wasted little time before forming a disturbing looking head in front of her, and with a wave of her hand the head tore through the air towards it's victims with a menacing grin growing on its face as it neared. She took to a knee as soon as she fired the AurHead, and lined up her shogun at the wisp and a Melody. Once the AurHead had passed the Wisp, she fired the shotgun, hoping to put the being out of its misery.

PA: I was chill when I wrote that. I just like cursing at people who can't drive while making blanket generalizations about groups of people (who can't drive). Kind of like "white guys can't jump" and "black girls on my campus will shout 'HAAAYY GIRRRRLLL' loud enough to be heard across campus, even though they're 6 feet from each other".
Sadly that second one is a fact. I don't get it. :<

@Aimer: Seeing as Square and I have grown old together, more or less, and that they really haven't put out any good games in several years, leads me to believe they are terrible at making games anymore. Further, the lack of good customer support, and the lack of access to forums in a beta where you're testing for bugs that need to be reported in a forum, make me think they have the intelligence of a plastic soap dish. Scratch that, I don't want to insult soap dishes. Further it isn't a demo, that not working would be one thing. This is an open beta client, for a game that claims it will go live at the end of the month, with millions of worldwide consumers trying to access it all at once. Think of it as if StarCraft 2 only ran on half the consumers' computers, and you should get an idea of why this is unacceptable. Even some of the people who can get it to work complain of massive lag in UI, making it a horrid experience.
@That Dutch Loser: Sorry, they were absorbed into a nameless and faceless parent company (at least over here) so that they could use what they already owned. Unless they're still translating rpg's for the western market, they're dead to me. Mostly because I've never gotten into Persona.

Clown are evil and scary by default.
As for the WoR, you can (and I have) beat the game with only Edgar, Celes, and Setzer. However, the game relies on you wanting to explore the new world, since you are playing an rpg which usually has heroes who explore the world and defeat evil, to advance the plot, which is as you said a series of fetch quests. For instance, once you hit the first town, they more or less TELL you where Sabin is. Same with several other characters. Granted, you could make a mad dash for Kefka and get your ass kicked because everything there has instant death and zombie and hard hitting spells, but you just skipped half the game because you didn't explore, which )was) a major point of RPG's at one point.

Concerning the topic at large, I have not played enough Final Fantasy to input, but I'm not the type to ever put a label of suck on any company for anything it does. To do so is to assume that knowledge of past events should guide your decision-making a lot more heavily than it probably should. Capcom's put out some great games with amazing online recently ((SSFIV)) and they've put out some garbage with terrible online recently ((Lost Planet 2)); that should serve as a good example of what I mean. I know Square Enix mostly does one type of thing, RPGs, so the comparison can't spread all the way, but ragging on them because their demo didn't work (this happens a lot from my experience) isn't warranted.

I daresay Squeenix hath outdone themselves. TOS be damned, this is atrocious.
3 hours to get a beta code and apply it to the account. Yeah. 3 hours of hitting f5 on various pages, entering login info 100's of times, and generally damning everyone involved in the development of their retarded "go through 8 websites that each require you to log in because we're too fucking stupid to use cookies" system to hell.
Code finally applied joy.
Download of the updater achieved, also joy... or not.
Updater crashes to desktop when launched. Every time, without fail. Checked for newer DirectX and nVidia drivers- already got 'em. Updated windows with a bunch of BS non important updates and restarted, just in case. No dice there either. Try to log in to the support site to seek help before I try buying a voodoo doll for their trademark, but end up as desj instead of myself. Log out, can't log back in. Restart Firefox and log in again, now I'm Gohan (really now, get some slightly original names you eff tards). Log out and can't log in again. Try Firefox again, but log in as Gohan again. Did I mention the website keeps timing out too, even though they've had 5 or so hours to curb people's access and work out the kinks?
I can say that this is the biggest joke of a beta I've seen in a while. I think Squeenix might have nailed their coffin shut for me, unless they do something crazy like making a new game that doesn't suck. Something like FF6. And since we know all they can do is rehash old games and make completely linear games with no towns anymore, I think the likelihood of that is pretty slim.

RE: Another Generic Rant Thread
Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm a colossal douche in face to face situations sometimes. Well, depending on who you ask, most of the time. However, I try to behave a bit better online for the exact reason you listed: mass audience. With employers and, well everyone, having greater internet access and privacy being a fading memory of the past, it seems like being yourself to people who know you well is a far better idea than being a complete degenerate online where EVERYONE can, and if you're a big enough idiot will, see.
