NP Mission: Reconaissance Needs Greed

"Waaaaah! Mr. Chicago you shouldn't just.... Wow, he's still up," Red commented, dubiously examining Spot's inanimate body. It seems Seven had fled the coop, and there were little nasties to deal with.

"Awwww~ I wanted to take one home~" Red pouted, brushing back her hair in disappointment.

"....This is seriously messed up, but I guess it's natural in this line of work? Uh..." Shin started, meditating on the options they had to deal with all the Coin units.

"Come oooon! Do I have to do everything myself!?" Red grumbled, flailing at her operator.

"....Are you seriously not affected by what just happened?" Shin inquired, sincerely curious.

"Uhhh.... Well.. yeah, it was kind of scary, but we need to deal with this now!" Red replied, shaking a bit before adamantly gesturing at the wave of Coins.

"....Right, right. Let's see how many we can take down with this thing..." Shin mumbled, sending in 2 chips.

"Roger! Myun, pull Spot back if you will~" Red requested, her rabbit nodding as she moved toward Spot quickly, before dragging him backwards toward Chicago.

"And now... I'll take a vanishing act~" Red proclaimed, her kimono gleaming as she bowed to Chicago while a giant Magical Hat dropped out of the sky and right on top of the crimson crusader.

A few seconds passed and the hat lifted to reveal...

...that Red was in the middle of the Coin group.

"Sing a little song~ And a perfect place~" Red hummed, kicking up a grassy hill in the middle of the battlefield, a tree sprouting at the top. "For a picnic~ Arriiives~" Still humming, Red climbed the tree before procuring a bomb from the the inner folds of her kimono.

"Add a little spice~ And the food~" The fairy tale-fighter dropped the bomb, exploding viral spores that rolled across the grassy terrain, assaulting all the denizens standing on top of it. "Is done~"

Chicago raised an eyebrow when the giant tophat fell onto Red, but ultimately found his attention more on Myun, who was dragging Spot's Charred Carcass out of the crossfire and to him. "Mm, right, don't need him left in the fray... Good work, rabbit." said Chicago, tipping his hat to the mammal before placing it back on his head.

When Red sprouted the big tree in the middle of all the Coins, though, the gruff detective instinctively grimaced. "Wood... Ergh." And that's all that was to be said on that matter.

For whatever reason, though, when Red started climbing her tree, the Coins... followed her. They weren't the smartest programs out there, so maybe it was just a monkey-like copycat act. Or maybe it was just a compulsive need to maintain high ground. Either way, the Coins were following Red up the tree. When the scarlet girl activated her Spice chip to lay waste to everything on the fresh grass, she could only watch as so many of them were missed as the spores failed to climb up the tree. Thankfully, not all 40 of them could climb at the same time, but by the time "too late" came, only 10 were left on the ground. Well, 25% there.

"Gaaaah! How frustrating!" Red grumbled, as the coins climbed after her.

"Don't worry, they've clustered, so all you need to do is take 'em out! Here's another one!" Shin remarked, slotting another chip in with ease.

"Guess I'll warp with the saved one," Red grumbled, accessing the Areagrab data and warping to the bottom of the tree where the shade ended. Sighing, she lifted her foot around knee length...

...before stomping hard on the ground.

The ground shook, rumbled, and cracked open, as lava erupted and spewed out from underneath the grassy plains and brought forth great pillars of fire, blasting the tree with marching towers and attempting to engulf all within.

"Hmmm..." Red mused, watching the tree blaze.

Chicago whistled as he watched the pillar of fire engulf, and as a result, thoroughly explode the tree. Yes, he whistled with a cigarette in his mouth. He's a real talent.

The Coins also watched the flames march towards the tree, and them by association. With as quick a reaction as when they climbed up the tree, the 2-dimensional programs started shuffling back down the tree. Unfortunately, they still weren't any smarter than they were a minute ago, so the idea of jumping out of the tree for sake of urgency didn't really present itself. After the tenth Coin made its way off the tree, the whole thing went up in flames, leaving little but ash confetti, comprising of both tree and Coin bits.

"... That'll do, I guess. You pass, rookie." announced Chicago with a very backdoor compliment. However... Ten of the Coins still escap-

"Hehe~ Thanks Mr. Chicago!" Red giggled, thanking her superior officer.

"Um... this is great and all, but aren't you forgetting something?" Shin prompted.

"Huh!? What could... Oh right! We need to chase after Seven! B-but what should we do with Spot? Aaagh! I'll hurry after Seven, Mr. Chicago, I won't let you dooooown!" Red spazzed, flailing a bunch before turning toward the direction Spot ran off.

"Come on Myun, we've got a criminal to catch!" Red beckoned her support unit, who nodded as both of them chased Seven at full speed.

It was really hard running in a kimono though.

[>CHASE SEVEN]
Chicago thought about pointing Red in the right direction, seeing as he had stuck Seven with a tracker before the guy bolted. However, it didn't take him long to change his mind and opt to see how lucky the new rookie was. Whether this was just more testing or some bonus hazing, it was anyone's guess.

It's not like the detective had nothing to do, though. With Spot's Charred Carcass delivered to Chicago by Myun, there was still the matter of taking this guy away... to a paramedic, but still, taken away. To that end, Chicago tapped his ear once or twice, then began talking into the private channel he opened.

"Hey, I need a pickup... No, not me, one of those RNG guys... Huh? Why am I telling you this...? Yes, I know you're forensics, not arrests! ... What? ... Yes, he'll need a paramedic too... Okay, fine. Great. Yeah, where I'm calling from. Bye."

Glad that's resolved... sorta. Good enough, anyway. At least Chicago was ready to go find Red and get her properly chasing after Seven now. As he started following her signal, though, Chicago's keen detective intuition triggered. Compelled by that, he cross-referenced the tracker's signal with that of the rookie, and lo and behold, they were all actually going in the same direction. "Huh... Rookie's not bad." Glowing praise from Chicago, seeing as even the best detectives needed to be lucky sometimes.

When the grizzled detective finally caught up, he, Red, and Myun were staring at a very plain-looking building, save for the fact that there was a... slot machine on the door lock? Yeahhh, definitely RNG. "Nice intuition, rookie." said Chicago as he blew a puff of smoke at the door. After staring at the door for a second, he added, "... Well, since you seem to be having a lucky day, rookie, want to take a spin at this lock?"

The lever on the side of the 3-slot machine was almost begging to be pulled.

Red and Myun huffed and puffed and were out of breath when they saw Seven enter a building with a curious lock on it.

"...Sure is gambling around here," Shin grumbled as they came across the slot machine lock, Chicago not too far behind.

"Wooooow~ It's so fancy~" Red giggled, eyes sparkling as she admired the game device turned lock.

"Oi, oi, now's not the time for daydreaming you know?" Shin scolded, prompting his navi back to the task at hand.

"You're right! Ok Mr. Chicago I'm pulling it now!" Red exclaimed, merrily prancing over to the lever and pulling down on it.

...So it starts...

[>SLOT TIME]
The moment Red pulled lever, the lock's booby trap triggered... No, not really, the slots just spun as expected. Numbers rolled around and around and around, fast enough that neither she nor Chicago could really tell what numbers were actually on the wheels. The hypnotic spinning continued until...

"Quickly! Roll it again!" Shin advised, pointing dramatically for no apparent reason.

"Uuuurgh! The lever's stuuuuck! And it keeps flashing this entry notice!" Red grumbled, crossing her arms and glaring at the lever.

"Uhh... insert coin to play again? Well..." Shin mused, thinking about the meaning. "Does it mean zenny? I mean, it is a slot machine, right? But it didn't take anything when we first pulled it so..." Shin grumbled.

Myun, on the other hand, saw what she had to do right away. Hopping right toward one of the dispensed Coins, the boxing bunny attempted to grab and then hurl one of the Coins into a slot where coins went in on a real slot machine.

"Wait what?" Red and Shin exclaimed in unison, waiting for the results.

"... Hold on, I got this..." grunted Chicago with a fresh puff of smoke from his cigarette. With all 7 of the other Coins watching, he walked up to the fighting rabbit and 2D cut-out, and with no warning or remorse, pistol-whipped the Coin on the head so hard that it was instantly crushed into a flat, actual-coin shape. Convenient, but... yikes. "Freshly minted, try that."

While the other 7 Coins shivered in terror of the crazy-ass detective, Myun complied and tossed the Coin coin into the Slot Lock. WHO'S FEELING LUCKY?!

"Door's open, one way or the other... Come on rookie, let's wrap this up." said Chicago, pushing the door fully open and walking inside. Red and Myun watched as an endless line of Coins began following him in.

The sheer audacity of Seven just opening a simple door struck the team as not very observant of them. Well, now they just had Coins to deal with, or perhaps, not really.

"EVERYONE!" Red yelled at the Coins, trying to get their attention. "FORM A SINGLE FILE LINE AND PROCEED PROPERLY! I'LL BEAT YOU LIKE MR. CHICAGO DID IF YOU DON'T!" Red ordered, trying to make the meanest face possible.

"Stop squabbling and hurry after him! There's little time to waste!" Shin snapped, nervously picking up an apple and starting to chew on it.

"Right! After him, Myun!" Red responded, switching to a white sports blouse and gym shorts and sneakers and tying her hair up just to get into the mood. She and the support unit bumrushed past the Coins and pursued Seven at full haste.

"Stop right there! Pretty please!" Red shouted, calling after Seven.

2. Pursue Seven with Myun
Red, Myun, Chicago, and 127 Coins all funneled their way into the RNG complex, only to be met with pitch black darkness. Suddenly, all the lights flooded on, and the NetPolice crew founds themselves on top of a giant roulette wheel, while all the Coins had vacated to a glass-encased betting layout to the side. Seven stood on a platform up above, behind another glass wall.

"Ha ha ha! You thought you could beat the chances of running into a trap in my lair?! You don't know anything about the chances! If you NetPolice goons would just leave the RNG alone, we could educate the entire world about the chances!" raved Seven without any provocation.

Chicago looked around the complex for a moment, then said, "... You're running an illegal casino in here. You expect me to turn a blind eye?"

"... It's for education!" shouted Seven in response. Nice save. "Oh whatever! If you're not going to give up, then you're just going to have to take your chances with the roulette!" With that, Seven pulled a lever next to him, and the roulette wheel began spinning with Red, Myun, and Chicago on board. Red was standing on, naturally, Red 21, Myun was stand on 00, and Chicago was standing on Black 11. Once the wheel got up to speed, a giant white ball crashed down from the ceiling and began hopping its way around the roulette wheel.

As the ball bounced its way over the heads of the NetPolice agents, Seven shouted, "20 Coins on third dozen!" At his command, 20 more Coins came out of the woodworks to assemble on the block of the betting layout labeled "3rd 12". With his bet placed, the wheel began to slow, and by some miracle Red, Myun, and Chicago were all not crushed. The ball came to rest on Black 29, and the betting layout reacted. All of the Coins from the Slot Lock standing off the 3rd 12 and Black 29 blocks were vaporized on the spot, while Seven's 20 Coins suddenly doubled to 40. After all the casualties, only 30 of Red's Coins remained.

"Ha ha ha! See! You don't know the chances at all!" laughed Seven, disregarding that none of his victims even placed bets.

Suddenly, a beam of energy streaked across the building and hit the glass window in front of Seven. Naturally, it was Chicago firing a shot. Unfortunately, the beam failed to breach the glass. "Sorry detective, this glass is weapon-proof! You're going to have to beat me at my own game!" Oh look, Seven just provided another incidental assist. Ignorant of that, Seven pulled the lever again, sending the wheel and ball into motion again. "20 Coins on 1st column, 20 Coins on 1st dozen!" yelled Seven, causing his own Coins to shuffle around to the proper places on the betting layout. The other 30 Coins remained stationary, waiting for their orders.

... Wait, how the heck do you play roulette anyway? Seven is such an ass...

"... 10 Coins on Black..." muttered Chicago he steadied himself against the spinning wheel. Well, at least he knew how to play... Maybe.

"W-whoa!" Red yelped as she and her allies were scattered across a roulette and Seven started betting on positions.

"Wait! Whaaaat?" Red whined as Seven started the roulette without any of them placing any bets. Then only a fourth of Red's gathered coins remained. "Meanie! No fair! This is stupid!" Red pouted, stomping on the roulette wheel. Seven mocked them as Red teared up, even more frustrated.

Myun just kind of looked bored and glanced at the ceiling, she waved her ears a bit and sighed.

"...Well... if that's how he's going to play. Let's mess it up for him..." Shin grinned, as Seven and Chicago placed their bets.

"Huh? How do we do that?" Red sniffed, eyes puffing from crying from the unfairness.

"Well first, let's make a bet. Myun, 10 coins on Black. Red, 10 coins on the 3rd column." Shin advised, still watching the trajectory of the Roulette Ball.

"Alright! 10 Coins on Black! 10 Coins on the 3rd Column!" Red called to the remaining lumbering coins.

"What she said." Myun grumbled to her own Coins, eyeing the bouncy ball.

"Now... let's make our own luck. Mud right in front of you, if you will, Red," Shin advised, eyes brightening.

"Gotcha! Let's slow it down! HRAAAH!" Red growled, blasting sticky, gooey chocolate all over the front of her wheel area while forcing back the movements of anything in a reasonable area. Latent energy built up into a protective aura around the fairy tale fighter as her uniform gleamed a bit red.

"Myun! Red! Try getting the ball into Slot 6 or 33! Punch it in if you have to!" Shin ordered, grumbling as he sent in the Magbolt chip.

"Roger!" Red and Myun replied, the boxing bunny steadying herself and watching the ball's movements. When, and if, it came to her area, Myun took a great leap and slammed the Roulette Ball back to Red's area, where the Mud would probably slow it down.

And upon reaching her area, if it ever did. Red would activate the Magbolt, attempting to drag the Ball into one of her adjacent pockets.

"C-come ooooon!" Red growled.

Red cont:
2. Magbolt1 at incoming Roulette Ball. Try dragging it into Black 6 or Black 33. [90 Elec DMG + Stun + Magnetic Pull]
In one way, it was brilliant. Plastic roulette balls just flat out don't come in wrecking-ball sizes. As a result, the one bouncing around here had a 40% metal filler, and thus was very reactive to magnetic forces. As the ball splattered across the mud-soaked squares of the roulette wheel, Myun managed to get a single swipe on it as it bounced just over the 00 square she was standing on, propelling it just a bit farther. The mud was doing more than its part to slow the ball down, but that fist managed to get it going just enough to roll into Red's magnetic field.

... Though, in another way, this was flipping crazy, because the giant roulette ball, spurred back to life by the pull of Red's MagBolt, was now tumbling towards her with no clear braking method. Uh oh...

*click*
*BANG*

A huge laser beam raced some 6 inches past Red's ear, a steaming magazine popped out of Chicago's gun and made the muddy pool below boil, and the roulette ball... Split in two?! A searing divide from Chicago's shot appeared straight through the middle of the giant sphere, causing it to break into two halves just shy of a collision with Red. One half fell flat immediately on the square in front of her, Black 6. The other have managed to roll along just past Red before ultimately collapsing on the square behind her, Black 33.

... Uh...

The betting layout suddenly erupted in energy, first as half of Seven's Coins were destroyed from the bet on the 1st column. Myun's and Chicago's bets on Black stayed safe, with the 1-to-1 payout not providing any gain nor harm. Then... well, things got a little odd. Seven's successful 1st dozen bet paid out 2-to-1 for Black 6, so his 20 Coins doubled into 40. Red's successful 3rd column bet also paid 2-to-1 for Black 6, so her 10 Coins doubled to 20. Then her successful 3rd column bet paid 2-to-1 for Black 33, so her 10 Coins doubled to 20. But wait, the land was on Black 6, not 33. So the layout counted the Black 6 bet, doubling Seven's 40 Coins and Red's 20 Coins to 80 and 40, respectively. Hold on, the land was actually on Black 33. Double Red's other 20 Coins to 40. No, it was Black 33. 160 and 80 coins. No, Black 6. 80 Coins. No, Black 33. 320 and 160 Coins............................................

..................*#$%^&*(*&^%$#$%^&*&^%$#$%^&*

And then the whole roulette setup got stuck in an infinite loop. The Coins kept multiplying towards infinity, causing the glass barrier around the layout to explode by inability to contain all the winnings. A tidal wave of Coins ripped through the building, sweeping up Red, Myun, Chicago, the two halves of the roulette ball, and easily shattering Seven's glass barrier and taking him along for the ride too.

... Well, now what? The building was probably going to burst soon just like the glass container, unleashing a flood of these silly Coins upon NetVegas. Capturing Seven was hardly a priority at this point. It sounded like he was just weeping somewhere in the swath of Coins, anyway.

"... Well rookie, I could call for backup, but at this point the only option would be to wipe this building off the Net, along with us in it." grunted Chicago, only a few feet from Red. "You're small enough to swim your way through these things, so if anyone's gonna get to that betting layout and destroy it, it'll be you. Good luck." And thus, everyone's fate was in Red's hands. "... Oh, and take this. It'll take care of the layout if you can just plant it on there." added Chicago as an afterthought as he plucked his cigarette out of his mouth and handed it to Red.

It seemed all was going well.... until Chicago shot the ball in half, causing it to land on the black squares Red had designated...

...what happened next was beyond normal comprehension that apparently the programmers of the betting layout didn't factor in. While one would be normally be elated in how much money they were producing from this gambit, the thing is.... it really wasn't real money, and the Coins were multiplying at a near constant rate.

"Whoops," Shin, Red, and Myun remarked in unison as everything was washed away by the Coins. But at any rate, they really needed to get rid of this infinite generation of Coins!

And apparently it was up to Red, to deliver a cigarette finish to the betting layout. Chicago grumbled a small good luck and Red sighed, saluting her superior.

((The most appropriate background music))

"You can leave it to me! Mr. Chicago! Shin! Firetower and AquaDragon! Let's roll!" Red shouted, gusts of wind clustering around her area while cherry blossom petals streamed out of her sports bag.

"Gotcha! Just find it quickly, eh?" Shin grinned, still confident in their plan.

"Mmhm! ALRIGHT MAKE WAY!" Red shouted to the coins, thrusting one open palm forward at the direction of where she thought the Betting layout was. On her command, a hurricane of cutting wind and cherry blossoms blasted through the Coins, attempting to throw them out of the way of Red's line of sight and reveal the path to the betting layout.

"One more!" the fairy tale fighter bellowed, tapping a bit of ash from Chicago's cigarette, causing towers of flame to march through the coins and reveal the path to the betting layout.

"THERE!" Red shouted, spotting what she thought was the target area while she unzipped her sports bag, a serpentine dragon made entirely out of water gushing out of it before charging straight toward the betting layout, Red on top of the dragon and holding the cigarette as far away from the water as much as possible.

"CHAAAAAARGE!" Red and Shin called in unison, as the dragon Red was surfing on made a mighty roar before slowly losing its water contents.

"Here we gooooooo!" Red shouted, leaping toward the betting layout at the moment the AquaDragon had only it's head left. She landed, but swam and swam with all her might before throwing Chicago's cigarette at the possibly revealed betting layout.

"THIS IS.... THE KEY TO VICTOOOORY!" Red yelled dramatically.

...And then...

With her orders accepted, along with the cigarette, Red immediately began an assault in hopes to blast a path through the sea of Coins. Her Cherry Blossom Spiral whirled past the Coin immediately in front of her and struck the next one, slamming it into yet another one behind it, and creating a domino effect of Coins crashing into each other. Unfortunately, the sheer quantity of Coins present also created a spring-like effect from the impact, so when there was just nowhere else for the stack of Coins to go, they rocketed back forward to their previous positions. For what it's worth, the attack itself did destroy one of the infinite number of Coins.

The cigarette-ignited FireTower proved more useful, as the ash fell on one Coin, then burst into pillars of flame that ripped through the Coin-packed terrain. The burning tunnel created quickly started to shut close as the Coins continued to multiply, but Red jumped on the chance immediately. Her summoned AquaDragon burst out of her bag, and after Red quickly latched on, raced into the tunnel, washing out the smoldering Coins as it traveled and turning its path into water. It kept churning and churning through the mix of water and Coins until the chip's power ran out, leaving a full quarter of the Coin mass as a sea of water.

... Granted, you could keep quartering infinity all day and still be where you started. Red had made a little progress as she waged war on that particular instance of Coins, but at this point the layout was doubling Coins by the tens and hundreds of thousands. Never mind that the layout was too far away to plant the cigarette, but was there even a way to tell which way the layout was? Shin and Red needed a plan; brute force wasn't going to break through this infinite loop. The layout kept on issuing Red and Seven their respective winnings, spewing out Coins aimlessly. So, aside from wherever those 20 Coins of Myun's and Chicago's were, Red and Seven each had half an infinity of Coins.

... Too bad Coins weren't actually worth anything, or this would be great. Oh well, at least they follow their owner's orders well enough.

While they are obedient to their owner, the information and commands they can process are extremely limited. Generalizations like "away" didn't have meaning to Coins. Away wasn't a designated place. However, the did understand the concept of "move". So they started moving.

... Uh oh. Without any clear destination established, the half of the Coins belonging to Red began moving about in random directions, creating powerful riptides in the mass as they pushed and pulled against each other while crashing into the stationary Coins belonging to Seven. Red, Myun, Chicago, and Seven were all getting thrown around in this madness, and any progress Red had made up to this point was lost. Additionally, this hurt... a lot. NEW ORDERS PLEASE.

Roulette Halves: 4954.5/4954.5 HP (Lost in the mass)
Roulette Wheel: Muddy and Irrelevant

Terrain: 25% Sea, ∞/2% Red's Coins (Frenzy, -50 HP per action to all), ∞/2% Seven's Coins
Layout: (??? actions away in regular terrain, ??? actions away in Coins)

Red.exe: 250 HP (20 HP Casing, wielding Chicago's Cigarette)
Myun.exe: 115 HP (Location unknown)
Chicago.exe: 700 HP (Giving the rookie a chance)
Well that didn't work. TIME FOR PLAN B. Which was...what? Oh well, Red would think of it on the spot most likely again.

"AAAAARGH! STUPID STUPID STUPID!" Red raged stomping on the ground in emphasis on her words.

"All Coins to the 3rd 12th," Myun called out drolly.

"Huh?" Shin and Red said, utterly confused looks on their faces.

"What? Aren't we still playing?" Myun replied, blinking unamusedly.

"Uh, yeah... right, hey let's place some bets," Shin chuckled nervously.

"Ooooooh~ I get it~" Red giggled as she patted Myun on the head. Her support unit shrugged, casually flowing with the tide of Coins.

"All Coins to the Second Column~! Make it snappy!" Red giggled, folding her arms and waiting.

Shin sent in the Areagrab chip just in case.

Turn Summary:
Myun: Order Coins to go to 3rd 12th on Betting Layout
Red: Order Coins to go to 2nd Column on Betting Layout
-Look for the direction Coins are going in
As the Coin riptide began to shred up its victims, Myun offered the suggestion of placing a new bet. Since only 10 of these infinite Coins were hers, though, all the SP could do wait for her master to follow.

... Well hey. Turns out the rabbit was both faster than the tortoise and could win the race at the end. Myun's brilliance showed as the Coins came to a full understanding of the new orders, and immediately began shoving themselves towards towards the 2nd column of the betting layout. Even the new Coins still being produced immediately start piling themselves onto the small square. As such, the sea of Coins began thinning out, but there was still one issue unresolved...

Another half of an infinity of Coins still belonged to Seven. And he still seemed a little off, curled up in a ball and whimpering at his world exploding around him. But thankfully, there was a no-nonsense, hardboiled detective on scene. Maybe Chicago could get Seven to... "cooperate".

*off-screen*
*one girly scream later*

"A-a-all Coins to First Column..." weeped Seven as Chicago put away his gun. Let's... not look much further into that.

With the order given, though, Seven's Coins began piling themselves next to Red, effectively draining the Coin sea in the building. This stacking was only going to work for a short time as even more Coins continued to produce. But, for now, a path was open to the betting layout, Red!
