Late Night Busting

"Well, that went better than I could have hoped," Rachna said, watching the massive scuttler fly through the air and crash somewhere in the distance. She didn't appear to be doing any real damage, but on the other hand she had avoided getting hurt thus far, and was succeeding in making the virus sound very frustrated. That had to count for something.

With the scuttler queen hopefully out of the way for the next few seconds, Rachna turned her attention back to the junk pile, and more specifically the shiny blue object she had tried to pull out via magic wind before. She tried to pull it out again, this time physically, while at the same time trying to determine just what it was.

>Examine Blue Object.

You examine the blue object. It is very blue and object-y. Your moderator decides not to penalize you an action for this trivial discourse, and recommends you make a third splice post with the freed action.

Attempt to pull blue object from junk pile.

Your moderator decides not to penalize you for forgetting a greater-than symbol (>), and Rachna yanks on the object. It catches once or twice on other things under the surface of the pile, but comes free with some effort.

Rachna acquires the Blue Keycard, which is disturbingly key-shaped.

Meanwhile the Scuttler Queen begins galloping her way over towards Rachna, dripping with purple ichor presumably from the remains of one or several (now-smashed) egg-cases. She looks happy.

Her legs also appear to be impaling and tearing off several panels as she exerts all of her force to quickly come to murder Rachna, which is-- interesting.

Queen Scuttler: 995 (off in distance) (Panels on legs) (Coming for you!)

Rachna: 80 (Near pile)

--Terrain--
10% Junk Pile (At end of carpet) (Yes 110%)
40% Red Carpet (Easily set aflame)
58% Normal (The rest of the battlefield is covered in purple, server-esque corrupted objects placed a small distance away from each other. Rachna would be able to slip between them, and the terrain they are on is otherwise normal. Which is odd, considering. The objects are bookcase-sized.)
2% Broken (The bits the Scuttler Queen is ripping up.
Rachna looked at the Blue Keycard, flipping it over in her hand as she tried to make sense of what it could be for. Which, she thought as she considered it, was more than likely a pointless endeavor without any idea as to what it could go to. The only thing she could think of was the blue console back where she had repaired the panels and lighting, but that would require her to get back to it, and to get out of the network before it did its thing.

It also assumed that such a guess was correct, or that she trusted that her guess was correct. Which, she wasn't quite ready to do.

She didn't have time to think about it too much, however, as a quick glance up told Rachna that the corrupted virus had already recovered and was scrambling toward her, ripping up panels as she went. It gave Rachna an idea, but not an idea that she wanted to act on just yet. At the moment, it seemed more important to keep the Scuttler at a distance.

"Ellen, chance of plans. Send me the cannon. Quickly would be nice," she said. The chip was uploaded soon after, and she raised her hand, conjuring the oversized weapon in it. That was one of the many reasons she liked magic. It was one thing to be heavily armed. It was another entirely to just materialize a gigantic gun out of nowhere.

"Sorry, I'm busy over here," she said, pointing the weapon at the Scuttler Queen and firing on it. "Come back some other time."
___

3. Cannon - 40+Knockback to Queen Scuttler
Rachna blasts the Queen with her Cannon, causing her to rear backward onto her hind legs-- the panels weigh her down enough that the knockback is not enough, however, and she strikes at Rachna with her encumbered legs. Rachna scutters out of the way of the slowed attack, but things are definitely getting heated up.

Queen Scuttler: 955 (Panels on legs) (Coming for you!)

Rachna: 80 (Near pile)

--Terrain--
10% Junk Pile (At end of carpet) (Yes 110%)

2% Broken (The bits the Scuttler Queen is ripping up.)
"So much for keeping it at a distance," Rachna muttered, disappointed at how little effect the cannon blast had had. It seemed that she would have little choice but to either fight at close range or keep distance between them the old fashioned way: by running in the opposite direction. She doubted that that would make for enough distance if it kept chasing her, though. Which called for a new plan.

"Hey, not to sound negative here, but you aren't actually doing much to it as you are," Ellen said through the PET. "Unless you've got a plan of your own, I'm thinking you'll need something that hits harder."

Backing up from the advancing virus, Rachna answered "We don't have enough of anything to take that out and you know it." Then, she suddenly said "No, wait. I've still got the webby thing, but just give me the strongest chip you've got."

"Right," Ellen said, flipping through her folder until coming across the one they had gotten in exchange for a simple Guard chip. She did a double take upon seeing its stats, then immediately slotted it into the PET. "Is this strongest enough for you?"

Rachna didn't answer, but instead immediately activated it, calling forth a shadowy creature from one of the holes the corrupted Scuttler had made by tearing up panels. The creature rushed the Scuttler from behind, and as it attacked Rachna conjured a magical wind to pull it toward her. Another step back, and she created a large, emerald shield in front of herself to keep the virus from colliding with her. Then, from around the shield, she created and shot forth a large web in homes of ensnaring the virus the moment it hit the shield.

Rachna's gambit proves successful; the Scuttler Queen rushes at her, only to find itself struck from behind by a shadowy wraith that cuts a deep wound into her backside. The force of the Scuttler Queen's attack is reduced by this as she recoils, pushed the rest of the way through her charge by Rachna's Gust, and her extended foreleg punches right into Rachna's shield.. which begins to crack as the pressure mounts upon it.

Rachna quickly ensnares the Scuttler Queen with the Whiteweb, but is then forced to MOVE as her shield shatters, causing her to dodge back toward the red carpet. The Scuttler Queen roars at Rachna, moving to give chase-- but stumbles, legs held by the Whiteweb, and falls to the ground with an earth-shaking boom. She growls and yells bestially at Rachna as she struggles to break free, but for now, Rachna is safely out of her reach.

Best get moving.

Amazingly, Rachna's plan worked. The corrupted virus took heavy damage from her attacks, heavier than she would be able to repeat from that point on, and was held in place, guaranteed to remain that way only for the moment. But that moment was enough to allow her to put distance between herself and the creature again, so long as she got moving right at that instant.

So she did.

She made a break for it back down the red carpeted path, back toward the only thing she thought could have any relevance toward eliminating the corrupted virus beyond her own abilities. The Blue Keycard had to go to something, and back where she had repaired the network there had been a conveniently matching-colored console that had been disabled. If she was lucky, the keycard would be able to reactivate it.

Or she could be wasting energy on something that would never work, but it was better than just repeatedly making the Scuttler Queen even more angry until it finally got through what defenses she had.

As she ran, she tried to create another magical gust to speed herself along even more, for what good it would do. Every little bit helped.
___

1-3: RUN LIKE HELL toward consoles
*Gust-assisted RUN LIKE HELL
Rachna RUNS LIKE HELL, making small hops as she lets the wind push her forward down the path. She makes good time as she sprints down the path, but it isn't too long before she hears a loud snap on the very same wind that is carrying her along, and then the frantic thumping of the Scuttler Queen chasing her.

It is getting closer.

Perhaps a stall tactic is in order?

Queen Scuttler: 715 (Panels on legs) (CHASING YOU)

Rachna: RUNNING THE HELL AWAY

--Terrain--
60% Glitchy Eggshelves
40% Red Carpet Path (Easily set aflame)
Predictably, the webbing didn't last long at all, and before she knew it she could clearly hear her opponent chasing her. More than likely gaining on her, even from the sound of it. Simply running obviously wasn't going to cut it.

She glanced back, diverting her attention from the path ahead long enough to conjure her double behind her. The decoy dropped into a battle ready stance, emphasized as Rachna redirected the wind carrying her along to blow back against the Scuttler Queen, hoping to create the image that the decoy was attacking it with the same blasts of wind that had sent it flying much earlier in the fight.

Her double was also prepared to attempt to dodge any attacks made against it this time, rather than simply taking the blow.

The real Rachna, meanwhile, continued running down the path.

2-3. Still running
Rachna's decoy dodges the first strike as the Scuttler Queen, red with rage, lunges for her with a panel-covered claw. The back-leg kick, however, pierces the Decoy straight through the chest, allowing her to then be carried into a stomp that squashes her flat between the panels on the Queen's leg, and the carpet below.

The queen then spots Rachna ahead and resumes her charge, but the stall tactic seems to have worked; the consoles are just ahead.

Based on how far away the Scuttler Queen is, however, Rachna bets she'll have about [2 actions] to do what she needs with the consoles before meeting an angry end.

"Hey, I know you're busy running at the moment, but just what are you planning?" Ellen asked.

Rachna called forth one last gust of wind to propel herself to the consoles, then answered "Ellen, I'm about to do something incredibly stupid and dangerous. When I do, jack me out at the first opportunity."

"Again?"

"Always," Rachna said, approaching the console. She looked for a port to insert the keycard, eventually finding one. "Remember, jack me out on my signal or you'll be looking for a new navi again."

"What's the signal?"

"You won't miss it," she said, inserting the keycard.

A loading screen pops up and a loading bar begins to fill, each moment seeming to be slower than the last. It reminds Rachna of the last time she had to debug a W*ndo*s 2XXX system.

Eventually, however, another text prompt appears.

The moment the console finally finished loading and the text prompt appeared, Rachna went to work, typing as fast as she could into the command prompt.

>Flush

She hoped that Ellen would be ready with the jack-out before she got flushed as well. Or, for that matter, that it worked before the Scuttler Queen mauled her.
__

2. >Flush
---
The moment Rachna hits the enter key, a large foreleg smashes the entire console in front of her.

"I'm sorry, did you need that?" The Scuttler Queen says, leering down at Rachna from above. Rachna instinctively moves back toward the edge of the platform as the Scuttler Queen advances, backside dripping caustic blood onto the platform that sizzles whenever it impacts.

A low growl rises in the Queen's throat as she opens her maw, a piercing blacklight-esque glow emitting from her stomach, then trailing up her throat to hover in ball form in front of her mouth. The ball of energy then begins to charge, emitting a low hum that gradually rises in pitch as the ball increases in size--

BOOM

The loud crash comes from off in the distance. The Queen whips her head around to view what Rachna is already seeing, as another gigantic beam falls upon the corruption in the distance, landing with a similar sound and blast. The Queen turns, slowly, to look at Rachna as first two beams fall at once, then three, as the system seems to 'warm up' and the blasts happen closer together.

"What. Did you. DO?" The look in the Queen's eye says murder far more than her tone.
Not even a second after hitting the enter key, and her pursuer had already caught up and smashed her last hope. Rachna edged away as the Scuttler Queen stared down at her, looking awfully triumphant as it charged up what would certainly be one of the Scuttlest family's giant death lasers. She looked to either side, searching for some sort of escape, but nothing presented itself. She was trapped.

But wait! The subsystem had still activated, and an explosion in the distance told her that the continued existence of the console wasn't necessary for it to complete. Now it was time for Rachna to appear triumphant. The explosion, and several more following, would serve as an adequate signal.

"I'm afraid that's for me to know and you never to find out," she answered the virus as, in the real world, Ellen noticed the net being lit up by a series of beams of light raining down on it and pressed the jack-out button. "Bye!"
___

Any and all: Jack out
A little more than a half hour later, Rachna logged back in despite several more protests from her sleep deprived operator. She made her way back to the site where she had jacked out from, searching for any remains or anything else that would need dealing with.
Rachna logs back in-- surprisingly in front of the consoles, all of which are in pristine condition. The network seems brighter and cheerier than before, although the same wallpaper scrolls right on by as if oblivious. Most importantly-- the bookshelves lining the carpeted path are still there, as is the path itself. Rachna can also see a building off in the distance where the Scuttler Queen's lair was...
Well this was a pleasant surprise. Everything seemed to be in much better condition than Rachna had left it. Certainly better than one could have hoped from seeing the blue console's subsystems raining death on the network right before jacking out.

In the distance, she caught sight of a building where she first ran into that monstrosity. The path there, rather than being lined with bizarre egg casings looking like glitchy dataservers, was lined with the normal bookshelves she had been expecting before. She followed the path, surveying as she went.
Rachna follows the path through the bookshelves to a wide, two-story building with a picket fence-- it reminds Rachna of a petting zoo... or...

Rachna notices the large, colorful sign on the front of the building that says "Virus Daycare" as a Mr. Prog walks over and opens the gate on the Picket fence. "Ah, welcome!" he says. "You're our first visitor in 1215 days! You've come to visit the viruses, haven't you? Please, come inside!" He beckons with one of his antenna-things, and walks toward the building while leaving the gate open.
A virus daycare?

Well, that could have explained where the Scuttler came from, if it had broken out when the network was damaged and was badly corrupted. Or perhaps something else entirely had happened.

She wondered if the length of time the 'daycare' had gone without anyone visiting had any significance, or if it was just a function of any normal navi not wanting to visit a safe haven for viruses. Either way, Rachna was far from normal, and simply shrugged as she followed the Mr. Prog inside.
