Runeknight's Escort Service

"Well," Runeknight paused as he summoned up his memories of the man named Soryu. "My Lord has known Master Soryu for some time. I have even had opportunity to battle along side Persephone, the Navi that you shall be replacing. Master Soryu is a fine man, a brilliant tactician and a master of strategy when it comes to engaging virus or Navi in battle."

"Yeah," Zan interrupted his Navi over their private line. "That's all true, Runeknight, but I think he wants to know what kind of person Soryu is personally."

"Ah," Runeknight answered over the same private line. "Unfortunately I do not know much about Master Soryu's private life."

"Stay with what you know. This guy probably feels a bit insecure. He needs encouragement."

"As you say, Sire." Runeknight turned to speak with the NormalNavi once more. "As for as he is as a person, I am afraid that I do not know much. It has been sometime since we have talked. However, I do know that he is generally kind, though aloof. From what I have learned, he has gone through many hardships and they have left a cold exterior, an icy shell to numb the pain of loss. However, once you get to know him he is a kind soul and a true friend. Though you shall meet him soon enough, I suppose."
"So," Runeknight asked casually. "How much time do you believe we have until we reach our destination?"

((In other words...Bump))
"T-T-Thankfully I won't h-have to deal w-w-with him a lot as I-I-I only h-handle t-the chip trading s-system," the Navi said as he kept walking behind RuneKnight, while his stuttering started to increase. "W-We're c-close to t-the end," he continued and looked around, as he sometimes held his hand to his face to bite on his fingers. "M-M-M-Man," the Navi said as he pointed out, shaking as if an earthquake was going on within his body, "T-There's t-t-the end."

Waiting for the three travelers at the end of the road were a number of viruses that seemed to be agitated at the amount of time they had to wait. "I-I-I knew they'd-d be there," the NormalNavi said from behind RuneKnight, "T-They always d-d-do that. I-I can't u-u-use my a-a-abilities on n-normal p-paths. Only t-those made b-by m-me."

Two windbox viruses blew wind at the travelers to ensure their stay, while aquatic and wood-like viruses bounced around and keeping away from the wind. They didn't seem to be bothered much about the coming of those they had waited for.

"Heh," Runeknight chuckled. "Our foes are certainly persistant. Worry not, merchant. I shall dispose of these beasts will all haste and then we shall complete our journey to ACDC."

"Watch out Runeknight," Zan cautioned. "A few of those viruses are of the aqua variety."

"Aye, though I do not think that I can dispose of them cleanly while the wind is blowing. I shall need to dispatch the windboxes before I can move onto the other creatures."

"I concur. Just be careful. Those Shrimp pack a mean pucnh and, with the current state of your armor, I doubt you could handle many such hits."

"Worry not Sire, for caution is the word of the day. I must remain alive to protect my charge and my steed."

"Alright, though let me help you get a little closer to the viral menace."

"At your command."

Runeknigth raised his left hand, fingers grasping the empty air just over his left shoulder. A gout of cobalt flame extended from his fingertips, the fires forming the shape of a massive sword. Runeknight pulled upon the inferno, drawing forth a sword from its fiery sheath. The weapon was a magnificent sword of massive proportions. The blade seemed to be crafted of smooth obsidian set within a large silver hilt with a black leather grip. Carved along the length of the jet black blade were runic symbols that shined with an azure light. A single runes shined brighter than the rest; the Rune of Breaking that sat deep center of the blade.

"Arion," Runeknight spoke to the stallion. "Protect our friend."

The horse whinnied in response and Runeknight gazed intently at the duo of wind producing creatures that sat across from him. he could feel the gale force currents being channeled by the beasts, currents that would throw off his aim if he attempted to strike any of the other viruses. They had to be stopped. He willed himself to appear behind the windboxes, trusting in his leige to provide him with the magic he needed. Cobalt flames erupted beneath the Navi, the fires lapping at his legs and rising higher by the second. The inferno consumed Runeknight and he was gone.

Runeknight reappeared behind the duo of windboxes, hovering in the air for a slight second before gravity took ahold of him once more. As Runeknight fell, he swing his massive sword in a wide arc that would devastate anything caught within its path. The sword shattered as it struck, causing a coloud of dust that obscurred his target from view. Runeknight dropped to the floor and tossed the useless hilt to the side. Their was still another windbox to deal with. Runeknight began a low chant, cobalt flames erupting along his arms and coalescing into spheres that burned brightly in the palm of his hands. He brought the spheres together as his chant grew louder, forming one inferno that hungered to be released. The knight held his hand up toward the second windbox, the final syllables of his spell escaping his lips. The sphere exploded into a quartet of fiery lances that spiraled around each other as they sailed toward the virus. The spiral would allow the lances to smash through any defenses the box could prepare and the mystic fires could consume it unhindered.

One of the strange Corn creatures loomed before him and Runeknight swithed targets. He knew the shrimpy were now his top priority, but he would have to eradicate the cornfolk first. A second pillar of flames sprouted along Runeknight arm and he trust his fist toward the creature that stood before him. A row of crimson flames lauched from his arm, sailing toward the first of the corn creatures and hurdling beyond to any beasts that may be lurking behind it.

Runeknight was running out of time. The viruses would retaliate at any second. There was not enough time to finish the Shrimpy before they could attack him. Taking his leige's advice, Runeknight took the defensive. He raised his arm, a large shield forming quickly. The shield would protect him from atleast one of the viral counterstrikes. As the Navi defended himself, he searched for his charge. The NormalNavi was standing still while Arion stood between him and the remaining viruses. Hopefully, both the horse and the Navi would remain safe.

Runeknight scoffed at the remaining viruses. They had tried to strike at the NormalNavi, but Arion had intervened. The noble steed was weakened, but he still held an aura of strength. Runeknight would have to heal the horse before the next battle, but he doubted he would have any trouble.

Runeknight could feel a surge of energy flowing through his body, gathering in each of his hands. He focused on the remaining viruses and fires several volleys of energy that sailed toward the viruses. It was strange series of blasts, the energy taking no form or structure, so much unlike his usual attacks. Still, it was a powerful volley of energy and Runeknight doubted that the viruses could escape unharmed.

Runeknight turned back to Arion, a crystal vial of pure blue liquid appearing in his hand. He held the vial up to the horse, allowing Arion to drink from the vial. Runeknight knew the contents of the crystal would help heal Arion's wounds, restoring the horse's strength for the battle to come.

"Good work Arion." Runeknight whispered. "We shall be finished soon. We are almost to our destination."

RuneSteed: Defend NormalNavi
((Oh for the love of bump...))
((Got some help from Eon with the stutterbug Navi.))

RuneKnight brings loads of overkill to bear on the 4 remaining opponents, who fail to fight back effectively with each virus either missing its mark or getting blasted into oblivion before it can act.

The normal Navi sighed in obvious releif, "T-thanks. I m-m-made it i-in one piece." Strangely, he looked even more worried a moment later, made evident by his nervous laughter... "h-heh heh heh.... N-n-now I'd better go face S-s-soryu. D'you think he's a good operator? I mean- his last navi... P-p-p-p-er-Perse-pho-phone. S-she was a t-t-terror! D-does that mean S-soryu is the s-s-ssame?"

The nervous Navi stepped into the datalink and vanished. Rune's mission was a success.

((So it's over? And shouldn't RuneSteed have 60 HP since I healed him?))

"Worry not," Runeknight's voice was calm. "I am sure you shall be fine."

Runeknight saluted the NormalNavi by placing the side of his fist against his chest plate. He nodded briskly and stood guard as the NormalNavi vanished from the path across Yoka Net. It seemed as though the Navi would be fine and required no further assistance. The NormalNavi had made it to Soryu's Shop just fine. Runeknight had accomplished his mission.

"Well, looks like this job was a success." Zan murmured.

"Aye Sire," Runeknight responded. "He should be safe now."

"I'll send the mission report to HQ. Feel free to wander Yoka for a while longer while I figure out what we should do next."

"As you wish. I shall use this time to get to know Arion a tad better."

Runeknight gathered the remnants of the viruses he had battled, sending the useful data to Zan while taking the bug fragments to Arion. The horse feed on the viral remnants happily, content in its new life. Runeknight ran a hand along Arion's mane and patted the horse's nose.

"You have done well, Arion." Runeknight whispered. "You are far stronger than I would have thought. Shall we continue on?"

Arion whinnied in response, a sound that Runeknight took for ascent. The knight slipped his foot into the leather loop hanging from the side of the stallion's armor and pulled himself into the saddle. He grasped Arion's reins and applied a slight pressure with his knees against Arion's side. The horse responded by moving forward at a slight canter. The duo headed deeper into Yoka net.

-BATTLE 4! FIGHT!-
((I still say Arion should have 60 HP...Unless he was hit in the last post and it was not mentioned......Aaaaaaaand, done. Not as good as I would have liked, but I believe it to be passable.))

Runeknight rode high in the saddle as Arion crested a hilltop. The knight used his vantage point to scan the area before him, searching for any sign of viruses or other creatures that may have been lurking within Yoka. Runeknight peered through his visor, gazing into the distance, and was rewarded with a glint of light just a few yards ahead of him. He was uncertain of what had caused the light, but he believed there to be someone or something just a few minutes away.

Runeknight pressed his legs into Arion's side, willing the horse to a faster pace. Arion slowed in response and let loose a gruff whiny. The horse has sensed whatever had caused the light and was attempting to warn his master. Runeknight patted Arion's neck in reassurance.

"Worry not Arion," Runeknight chuckled. "I have seen them. We shall not come upon them unawares. If they be friend, then we have naught to fear. If they be foe...Then we shall teach them the meaning of despair. Come. Yah!"

Runeknight pressed the horse into a gallop and charged toward whatever fate awaited them. They covered the distance between them and the glint of light within a few seconds, the stallion's mighty hooves cracking the ground with each stride as Runeknight's cape billowed in the wind. As they neared the origin of the light, Runeknight spied its makers, a mediocre group of viruses that had congregated together for one reason or another. The knight knew the havoc that such groups could bring to the undefended Net and he knew that it was up to him and Arion to stop them.

"Sire," Runeknight called softly to his liege lord.

"I see them," Zan answered. "Nothing too dangerous really, though we should watch out for those slime things."

Runeknight nodded as he gazed across the field at the mass of beasts that lay before him. He slowed Arion as he studied the creatures and formulated a quick strategy. There was a pair of fiery birds that soared above the rest of the viruses, phoenixes that would spew forth flames from their beak once Runeknight approached. Keeping the birds aloft was a duo of strange humming boxes that spat wind with frightening force. The boxes would pose a threat, not to Runeknight's body but to his aim. Next to the boxes was a long line of the strange corn folk that he had battles only a few minutes before. Individually, they were nothing to be concerned with, though their numbers could prove troublesome. Lastly was the pair of viruses that his lord was concerned with the most, two large puddles of slime that sloshed around on the ground. The puddles looked harmless enough, but the knight knew them to be powerful opponents who could extinguish the mystic flames that empowered him.

"Well," Runeknight whispered to himself. "We shall just have to finish the slime monsters before worrying about the rest. The winds trouble me though. Any ideas, Sire?"

"You could teleport behind the boxes so that they do not hamper your aim."

"Nay, that would leave Arion at the mercy of the cruel beasts."

"Well, then how about using a full frontal assault? The wind will prevent you from getting close, but it should not hamper your more direct, long range abilities."

"Truthfully, Sire?"

"I believe so."

"Then we shall attempt it. We shall cut through the wind from a distance, but first I must fell the slime."

"Any preference?"

"Nay, though I have an idea. Merely send me our mightiest weapons."

"You got it."

Runeknight grinned behind his visor, enjoying the prospect of what was to come. He could feel the power of the mystic flames boiling within him, begging for sweet release. He focused his thoughts on the task at hand, staring at the puddles of slime that were beginning to stalk toward him. They would be the first to die. They had to be first. Runeknight began a low chant, trusting in his powers to guide his tongue to the proper syllables and phrases. This would be a spell he had never used before, but he needed it to work. The words left his throat quite easily; the buildup of power was smooth, but quick and forceful. From the back of his horse, Runeknight raised his left hand into the air, the back of his armored fist shining brightly for a brief moment, a runic mark shaped like a jagged bolt of light appearing for a few seconds before vanishing. The sky grew dark and an ominous rumble flooded the ears of all on the battlefield. Twin bolts of golden light flashed from the dark sky and sailed toward the two puddles, threatening to impale them. A crash sounded, light flashed and all was normal.

"May the Lord's Judgment be fair." Runeknight whispered. "And now to slay the damnable wind."

Runeknight felt the familiar surge of energy that accompanied the materialization of one of his Liege's ancient weapons as it arrived in his plane of existence. He knew the flow of power would need an outlet and so he channeled the surge of energy into his hands, allowing it to take shape and to harness its might. Twin spheres of fire appeared within his palms, crimson balls of light that churned with the life force of the ancients.

"The flames of destruction," Runeknight intoned as he gazed at one of the flames. "And the light of rebirth."

The knight held the darker fiery orb, the flames of destruction, aloft and slashed his hand in a backwards motion, the fires creating an arc that sailed toward the waiting windbags and one of the corn folk that stood beyond. The fires would consume the cornman and char the metal boxes, but not be enough to destroy them. As Runeknight held aloft the second sphere of flame, his crossbow appeared within his free hand. He had not used the black lacquered wooden weapon since he had entered Yoka and the spells held within the enchanted weapon were yearned to be unleashed. The bow was already loaded, a small quarrel lodged within. Runeknight took aim at the two windboxes and slid back the trigger. The arrow sailed out from the bow, only to explode seconds before reaching its mark. From the splintered arrow sailed a hail storm of iron pellets that would hopefully tear apart the boxes that the flames had weakened.

The knight smiled grimly and dropped the crossbow to the floor. The second fiery orb, this one more bright and vivid than the last, remained in his left palm. He would need to set it free before it could extinguish. Runeknight tossed the orb into the air, chanting a quick spell that would release the spirit of rebirth that lay dormant within it. The sphere exploded, the flames reaching out and taking the form of a massive phoenix. The bird of flames screeched and flapped its wings before sailing toward the row of cornfolk that had been behind the boxes. The trail of flames that the bird left behind would incinerate the weak creatures where they stood if they did not dodge out of the way.

If his strikes flew true, the phoenixes would be the only beasts left form him to fell. He glanced at the birds hovering above the battlefield, smiling as he summoned the weapon that would bring about their downfall. Runeknight had nothing against the creatures personally, but he had seen the destruction they could cause and could not allow them to remain within Yoka Net. He only wished he knew who had created the poor viruses so that he may strike out against the true evil that blanketed the land.

"It is time for you to rest, noble phoenix." Runeknight spoke aloud. "Come Arion, let us allow them their chance to sleep."

Runeknight kneed the stallion into a gallop, charging onto the battlefield straight toward the circling birds. An azure glow began to surround his left fist as energy flowed throughout his body. The glow intensified to a liquid aura that flowed around his gauntleted hand. Runeknight gazed at the viruses, strudying their movements and planning the perfect place to strike. As he neared the flying creatures, the knight sliced his hand through the air in a backhand chop, the watery aura lifting from his gauntleted fist and sailing in a wide arch toward the phoenixes. The aura was a wave of liquid energy that would douse the flames that burned within the avian lords, extinguishing their fiery passion and causing their bodies to crumble to naught more than soggy dust.

Runeknight dismounted and gathered up the remaining data. He feed the bug fragments to Arion and let the horse deeper into the Net.
