Druidman: Steamblower

Druidman hears a yelp from behind him and turns- only to see Freckles being dragged into the lava, with Drek frantically making a futile attempt to pull him out of the jaws of some beast or another. The entire gravy train of beast, dog, and illusion dips below the lava, releasing a few small bubbles.

All goes quiet again... Except for the fire, which flares up and burns Druidman as a grim reminder.

One thing is clear, however. He is not alone...

Terrain: 90% Lava, 10% Normal centered on Druidman. Can barely dodge.

???: ????

Druidman: 200 (FIIIIAAAAH! Taking damage every round!)
Freckles: Deleted?
Drek: Deleted?
"DOG DUDE!" Druidman yelled as he whipped around and looked at the spot where Freckles had just stood a moment ago. "NOOOOO!"

"Calm down, Druidman, and look at it logically." Steve said, though he still sounded startled. "Drek and Freckles are incredibly resilient, Drek was pretty much impervious, and Freckles had a lot of health. Lava shouldn't damage them that much that quickly. You may still be able to rescue them, somehow."

"Yeah, maybe..." Druidman said dubiously as he went into a defensive posture again. He wasn't so sure.

Neither was Steve.
Something huge flies straight upwards out of the lava, and Druidman looks at it for about half a second before he realizes exactly what it is;

Drauchen. The Dragon Cybeast.

Druidman spots what appears to be a small, dog-like skull lodged inside the Dragon's mighty jaws, and it roars, releasing the small, fragile skull into the lava below.

No help will come for him.

No allies will save him at the last moment.

For once, Druidman is entirely alone... against a monster that threatens to destroy him utterly in naught but a single strike.

Battle 19.

"No." Steve whispered to no one. "It can't be." a chill swept over him, and a shudder quaked up and back down his spine. This was almost impossible. Yet, they were in the most extreme depths of the net currently explored. If this could happen anywhere, then this was the place for it. Still, to be pitted against the single most powerful Fire phenomenon in the history of the net, and so soon after escaping it's wrath once before, was unnerving.

Steve started to asses the situation. The last time Druidman had faced off against the Beast of Flame, he had had four others with him, and even then, Druidman had barely survived. Druidman had grown quite a bit since then, but it couldn't be enough. He hadn't mastered his Water Magic, he hadn't obtainied enough water chips... If only he had more time to prepare... if only he had read the signs sooner, if only he had... if only...

If only.

Druidman, meanwhile stared up and looked deep into those bright, glowing eyes. His bright green pupils locked in on them, and they looked at each other. He stood at his full height, unrelenting, infallible. But it was all a facade.

Druidman was afraid.

He knew what he was up against. He knew he was alone. He knew that he was surrounded, he knew that he was near the end of his existence.

He knew.

As Drauchen came back down, hovering inches over the lava sea around him, he seemed to be content for the moment, but Druidman could already see the great dragon taking a lazy sweep of fiery breath. He saw his body twist and melt, and smolder away to nothingness. Seeing that gave him some small comfort, it allowed him to think of something else.

"You ate my fucking dog, man." he said simply.

This simple statement snapped him out of his stupor, as well as Steve's. Suddenly, the both shared one mind, and one thought.

The were going down in the greatest fight they had ever fought.

"Let's do this, Druidman!" Steve said, slamming his fist down on the table. "Let's give 'em hell! I'm sending the strongest chips I can!" he said, slotting in a small handful.

Druidman steeled his stance, and hefted up his gauntlet, glowing hot with the first chip. The cool blue sapphires hid the red hot power pulsing through his fist. Not bothering to charge the attack up, Druidman simply punched forwards, sending a massive cascade of fire surging forwards, racing across the tiny island he now stood on.

Now, Druidman's hand dove into the belt pouch, knowing full well what chips he had been given by his operator. He found what he was looking for, a round, knobbed device that seemed to glow with internal energy. While he was rustling around in the bag, he let out a slight yelp, he had touched something white hot. Ignoring it for now, he saw the dragon move about, it's jaws wide, and with a quick, smooth motion, hurled the bomb with all of his might right at that slavering, gaping maw.

"This next chip we haven't tried before, Druidman, but it seems good." Steve cautioned. Druidman nodded, but he had already begun to channel the chips power through him. Eight small glowing orbs descended from the heavens, orbiting the Navi, and, drawing his hands together, they all collected in a small blob in front of his chest. With a forward motion, his palms together and pointed outwards, the orbs flung themselves forwards, almost homing in on their target.

Druidman started to rub his hands together, and small sparks seemed to fly off of them as the moved quicker and quicker. Suddenly, he pulled his arms apart, but the bright arc of electricity was stretched between his hands. With another swift motion, he pointed his hands, fingers forwards, almost lazily ahead of him, sending out a massive arc of electrical current, spread wildly across the bright red landscape.

Exhausted, and knowing that moving anywhere useful from where he was was futile, he hefted up a shield which he had magically summoned, and held it before him, and he hunkered down, hoping to cover as much of himself as he could. "Bring it, you stupid dragon, dude!" he yelled. If he was going to be deleted here, then so be it, but he wouldn't wait for the dragon to toy with him first.

The fact that Druidman's attacks hit the GIANT DRAGON that's not really moving is not surprising. The two fireballs it hurls at him afterward, however, are.

The first fireball, massive as it is, impacts with Druidman's Guard1, melting it into molten scrap and firing a beam back at the dragon. The second, however, sears Druidman with a heat more intense than he thought could be possible. (110 x2 fr/fire-wk, x2 fr/fiah=440)

Amazingly, the fire that Druidman's currently encaptured in doesn't burn him-- or perhaps it already has, and he simply doesn't feel it, already crispified...

"Druidman!" Steve screamed, "I'm getting you out of there, NOW!" as his hand flew to the pile of subchips, Druidman stood and held up a hand over his shoulder. Smoke was rising up around him, and he sported a large shiny burn across his chest, charred straight through the leather, which gave off a horrible smell.

"No." Druidman said gruffly.

"Druidman, you don't have a choice in this. You are beaten, there's no reason to get deleted." Steve said, with genuine panic in his voice. Druidman had always been defiant and independent, but the thought of losing him...

"You don't get it, man." Druidman said again. "I'm not leaving. I'm making my stand here, dude." he patted his body, sending a few ashes scattering everywhere. "I'm not beat yet. I know I can do this." he said, and to demonstrate, he drew his scimitar.

"Druidman..." Steve began.

"Now, will you give me some chips, or am I on my own here." It wasn't a question.

"Um." Steve was flabbergasted. He'd seen Druidman bound and determined before, almost to the point of sheet idiotic stubbornness, but never anything like this. "Of course." he said. Druidman was strong, and so he would have to be.

Druidman, holding his scimitar, stared up at the massive dragon, and yelled out: "HELLO, DRAUCHEN." he started to break out into a slightly limping sort of run. He didn't have much room for error on this, and he was running out of safe ground fast. He waited for the dragon to hover lower, and, with a quick veer and a sudden fluid movement, he coiled his legs, and took a leap of faith, right up to the dragon's back.

Still flying in the air, Druidman twisted and contorted his body around, and continued his yell, "MY IDENTIFICATION IS DRUIDMAN.EXE." he pulled his scimitar back over past his face, held aloft to the side of body, a cool steam started to waft off of the blade as it became charged with Druidman's natural magics, as well as the chip data Steve had supplied him.

Thrusting his arm forwards, he sent a cascade of bubbles downwards towards the dragon. "YOU CONSUMED MY FRIENDS." He pulled the scimitar back to the same position again, the cooling steam renewed. Druidman started to chant as well, still in a freefall.

"PREPARE FOR DELETION." He roared, jabbing the scimitar forwards yet again, but the bubbles were this time chased by several strong, ropelike vines, erupted from Druidman's same arm, started flying forwards, twirling around the area of Drauchen, loosely forming a small net.

"SANCTIFIED RECOVERY FORCE!!!" He yelled, and the lines drew taught, Druidman felt himself being pulled forwards towards whatever he had latched onto. Hopefully these vines would help stabilize him in the safest place he could think of.

As Druidman came crashing down, he felt another massive shield form around his other arm. It couldn't hurt.

He hoped.

Druidman continues blasting Drauchen with everything he has, but it doesn't seem to be enough; the Dragon remains standing (floating?) even as the small Druid latches onto its' back...

or does it?

The dragon seems to tilt backward suddenly, and Druidman only realizes what, exactly, it just did when he's crushed between the giant dragon and his Guard, which melts nearly instantaneously.

Heat sears Druidman from every possible angle, either from the broilingly-hot scales of Drauchen, or from the lava, or both, and all goes dark as the searing pain escalates from white-hot to mentally-scarring, and Druidman realizes he's reached the end.

The lava consumes the last vestiges of Normal panels, and the entire area falls silent save for the occasional ambient sizzle of lava against dragon scale.

Drauchen: 250

Terrain: 100% Lava

Druidman: 0
The area begins to rumble violently, and Steve finds Druidman's health count rapidly fluctuating from its' previous count of 0 to everywhere between 1 and infinity. The numbers flicker and fizzle out for one last moment, then blink back into existence a moment later, deciding to instead settle on ???. Steve notices something odd displayed at the bottom-right corner of the PET, despite the fact that he still can't seem to contact Druidman...

'Rage Mode Activated'.

Drauchen: 250

Terrain: 100% Lava

Druidman: ??? (RAGE MODE ACTIVATED)
"DRUIDMAN, NO!" Steve screamed, he slammed his hands down on his desk, threw the pile of papers and his binder of chips off onto the ground violently, then stood up and put his foot through a section of the drywall. This couldn't be happening. Druidman was his friend, his BEST friend, and he hadn't the courage to stand up and help him in his time of need, and now he was gone.

GONE.

Why hadn't the Emergency Jack Out kicked in? Druidman should have been safe, if not unconscious, back in his PET. Had Drauchen intervened?

Suddenly, Steve's PET lit up excitedly. Steve leaped across the room to pick it up, and anxiously looked into it's viewfinder.

He was shocked by what he saw.

A horrid, twisted mass of magma righted itself up out of the pool, and straightened out. A large lump formed in Steve's throat as the swell took on a humanoid shape. Moving one of it's appendages up towards it's head region, it wiped away the lava revealing...

Druidman's face, which, aside from a cut across the top of his eye, looked fine, despite being coated in lava.

The lava began to slide away in rivulets like water, revealing little to no damage to the Navi beneath. Druidman opened his eyes.

They were green.

Not the regular, gentle green that they were normally, but they were, in their entirety, twin lamps of brilliant green light. Druidman himself seemed to be glowing a slight green as well, and he began to rise up, clear out of the lava, floating mere inches above the surface.

Druidman opened his mouth, and green light poured from there as well as he bellowed;

"NATURAL. NET. FORCE."

A massive shockwave of pure natural magics pulsed outwards from Druidman's body like an uncontrollable tide, and at once, it halted abruptly, forming a glowing green ring surrounding Navi, Beast, and the immediate area.

The shockwave hit Steve's PET, too, and Steve lost all visual feed.

Druidman floated in the center of the circle, and began to chant. "I am unlocking the circle that binds me to the world." he began "I freely beseech the natural forces of existence to reveal themselves to me." Suddenly, the ring disappeared and twelve runes, still in the bright green writing, rose up from their place, forming a circular wall. Each rune was a different druidic symbol for one of the twelve elements of nature:

Fire.

Earth.

Wood.

Steel.

Thunder.

Ice.

Water.

Wind.

Light.

Dark.

Time.

And Void.

Six of these runes dimmed, but were still visible, as Druidman had not yet unlocked them. But the other half glowed brightly, coating everything with a sickly, eerie, green hue.

Suddenly, Druidman was flying. He sent in his wake a green light trail, and he flew away to the perimeter wall, smashing into one of the symbols.

And the seal of fire was broken, and Druidman said, "Entangling Heat Force."

Druidman's scimitar leaped from it's master, possessed with its own mind, wreathed in a white hot flame, and spiraled towards Drauchen, reaching out to it with vines made of pure flame.

Druidman careened towards a symbol on the opposite end of the ring, and flew through it, shattering it.

And the seal of wind was broken, and Druidman said, "Razor Tornado Force."

Druidman's body spun around and around, faster and faster, sending torrential winds whipping past him at breakneck speeds. With a sudden jolt, he sent a twirling mass of leaves and wind and debris spiraling towards Drauchen.

Druidman flew onwards, back in the direction he has came, until he stopped at a symbol, and he punched his fist through it.

And the seal of earth was broken, and Druidman said, "Encroaching Earth Force."

The lava seemed to sink, and a cleft in the earth shattered open, siphoning away the red hot rock. Great roots reached up out of the ground, and stabbed towards Drauchen.

Druidman launched himself again, doing a slight loop de loop as he did so. He flew almost lazily to the next symbol.

And the seal of thunder was broken, and Druidman said, "Driving Storm Force."

Holding his body spread eagle, dark billowy clouds emanated from his body, filling the sky with loud rumblings of thunder, and sending showers of lightning and wooden pikes downwards to Drauchen.

Druidman looked onwards, and suddenly flew almost too quickly to see, straight through the next rune in the circle.

And the seal of light was broken, and Druidman said, "Sanctified Recovery Force."

Just as the black clouds flowed out of Druidman's body, so too now did tendrils of pure, white light, which paused around Druidman, forming an almost angelic appearance to him, before they twined together, and flew to Drauchen, hungering for life.

Druidman rocketed across the ring again, still leaving the green light in his wake, until he came upon the last remaining symbol.

And the seal of ice was broken, and Druidman said, "Shivering Frost Force."

And, mirroring his scimitar, a club of sturdy ironwood spiraled into existence as it was immolated in sheer coldness, coating it with ice as it twirled towards Drauchen.

Druidman finally flew back to the center of the circle, and reached for Drauchen, and grabbed him. Hefting him over his head, Druidman flew upwards, and then, stopping in midair, began to fly back down, throwing his shoulder into the dragon as it smashed into the ground.

Steve managed to re-establish the video feed, and saw a high aerial view. He let out a gasp.

There, on the stark red background, formed by the ring and the trails of green light Druidman left behind him, was Druidman's Navi symbol, burning in bright green on that red canvas.

As he smashed into the ground, the lava sent out a wave which scattered the runes away...

Druidman looked up, smiled, and let out a low, "Duuude..."

Drauchen seems to scatter into tiny flecks of data a moment before he hits the lava. The small, flat, square pieces of varying shades of red drift lazily upward for a few moments...

Apparently, Druidman has won.

The words 'Rage Mode Activated' dim until they are no longer visible...

Drauchen: DELETED

Druidman: ???

The flecks all shine a bright white for but an instant, and then seem to rush straight towards a surprised Druidman from every direction. His open mouth tries and fails to form words as the process happens, and when it is done, a sheer wave of force comes rocketing out from his body, pushing back the lava a slight bit.

As Druidman begins to fall toward the lava, HP reading zero, three messages pop up on Steve's screen, only one of which makes any sense:

The first, "???-Skill gained".

The second, "Digital Possession Detected".

And the third, the only one that makes sense, "Navi has taken critical damage. Emergency Jack Out initiated."

Thus did Druidman disappear in a beam of light, a few short seconds before hitting the lava.
