Recon's data weaved and twisted through the data path. As the information made its way through the network, it selected an active portal and shot down to it, reassembling Recon's data back into navi form.

Scilab, we meet again, he cockily remarked before stepping onto the floor. The EAAS, still remembering last night's antics on Sullen's navi's homepage, had already deployed and was scanning the area. You're clear for now, it reported. Normally, this would be good news, but Recon was a little bit restless, and wanted some fun. Seeing as how the only way to get that would be virusbusting, having nothing to bust would make this task impossible.

You watching on, Steve? Recon called out.

Of course. Recording program's on and live, so go find something, Steve instructed.

Recon picked a random direction and started walking. Ahh, the mysteries of the net. What would he find?

[[[LET'S GET THIS PARTY STARTED, SHALL WE? BATTLE 1, START!]]]
Recon's quick excursion into SciLab was interrupted rather promptly, as the presence of three viruses stopped him in his tracks. One very familiar Boomer accompanied two strange red-and-blue cubes behind it. As soon as they sighted the Navi, they immediately went into the defensive, readying themselves for a battle!

Recon was happy to find virii, but one look at the newest addition to his known virus library had him already on the backfoot. One half blue, one half red. One could only wonder if they did anything, or whether they were in fact just scenery. The Boomer at the front of the pack was a familiar enemy, so that was their first target.

Requesting Zapring, Recon appealed to his operator, taking note of the Metal ground below him. Recon's success-rate of hitting a Boomer on the first shot was yet to leave zero, and he only had one Elec-type chip. This tactic was usually met with failure when Recon used it, but the navi was feeling lucky. Taking up the chip data, his hand once again slid back into his arm and in its place came the familiar coil-and-pylon setup he was getting used to. The static electricity began pulsing, creating a charge that slowly filled the coils.

Recon's vizor began its helpful scanning, taking its aiming disks and spiralling them down onto the bladed foe. Trajectory confirmed, it replied as it steadied his focus.

Timing was important, as shooting too early would case the attack to simply rebound off its head defense mechanism, but too late would cause damage and throw Recon's focus off, possibly changing the trajectory. The black navi took his chances and moved the energy to the pylon, where it started making zapping noises as it looked for an exit. Opening the chamber, Recon flung the pulse outward and at his target, hoping that the timing was right.

Hoping that was one virus down, Recon turned his attention to the cubes. You got any clue on these, Steve? he asked, curious as to their purpose.

Steve was beginning to feel old. He'd only been out of the virusbusting game for seven years, and there was already so much he didn't know. His memory simply couldn't recall red and blue cubes. His navi was still waiting for instructions, so for now they'd have to play the defense game and hope for some weaknesses to reveal themselves. Taking up the Guard chip once again, he passed it through the reader and sent the information into the download cache.

On the opposite end, Recon's assistance appeared in front of him, ready to serve. His right hand, normal once again, grabbed the Guard and hid behind it. I guess that means you have no clue either, he deducted.

Some all-knowing operator I am, he muttered, just loud enough for Recon to hear. Keep on your toes, he advised as he watched the virii himself, eager to get some answers.

Now that Recon had learned to think before firing, the Boomer's hard metal protection was no longer a concern to him, as he timed the shot correctly, and hit the Boomer. Even more fortunate for him was that the Boomer's arcing boomerang attack had been aimed way off the mark, and landed somewhere far to his side. The cubes rotated around for a while, before deciding to attack. And boy, did they ever- their red sides glowed sharply, and fired crimson laser beams in tandem, with one reflected off the Guard, and another piercing his defenses. Unfortunately for Recon, however, the laser was electrically charged; everyone knows what happens when you mix metal and electricity. (20x2 Metal-Elec)

While the Boomer crumbled into non-existance, Recon's shield deflected the first wave of power from the mysterious cubes, but his feet became an extension of the floor as the second wave of electricity conducted itself through the metal terrain and zapped the navi of almost half his health. Such a large amount of damage could not be a good thing, and the facial expression of the navi confirmed this. As the energy left his body, his eyes stared at the enemy with hate emanating from his face. Fortunately for them, the EAAS prevented them from seeing it.

So, you attack through electricity, he half-groaned, half-growled. You obviously like to travel with Boomers, but can you handle them... he leered as he turned the comlink back on. Boomerang, stat.

"Stat"? his operator replied, a little shocked by the harshness of the request. Rather than pick a fight in the heat of the battle, he'd deal with that attitude later. Then again, the last attack was probably the reason, so maybe he'd cut Recon a little slack. The chip was placed into the reader, and the contents transmitted to the to-be user.

As the blade transformed onto the network, Recon snatched it up and moved his fingers to one end of the blade. Turning the inner curve towards the first pair of bricks, he arched his forearm back and released the wooden boomerang at a 45 degree angle to the right of the virus. As the natural force kicked in, it began turning around, confirming the projected path to include both foes.

Better send me a Shotgun as well, the gunslinger decided, expecting his arm to become the trusty weapon he'd depended so many times. Sure enough, the tube extended itself out from his palm and twisted his fingers into the chamber design. The targeting system was already at work, lining up the most favorable path to take down possible survivors. As the locks set upon the second mix of red and blue, he fired the Shotgun with as much force as he could muster.

Is there anything I can do about these panels? Recon asked Steve. He wasn't too excited about the possibility of another round of static shock.

Yeah, it's called "suck it up", Steve sneered as his navi waited for the counteroffensive.

Reacting to the immense shock he had just received, Recon utilized the only Wood-affinity chip in his arsenal, the Boomerang, to slice through the cubes like a hot knife through butter. With the cubes being electrically-charged, the Boomerang deleted them with ease. Everything after that was moot.

The Boomerang's wooden nature collected the virii, prompting their destruction and the end of the battle. Recon's health was a concern to Steve though. We're going to have to do something about your recovery systems, he discerned. You haven't been able to last more than three waves of virii since your return; we've done much higher than that in the past.

Yeah, but as a team, not as an individual. You said so yourself, Recon pointed out. What are you suggesting? he asked.

Well, I was originally thinking about upgrading your offensive abilities first, but it might be a better idea to work on your defensive instead, Steve replied. That can wait until later, though. This time, try to find a battle scenario that isn't on metal or glass, he sarcastically remarked.

Recon glared at his operator before switching off the intercom and returning his attention to the network. Easy for you to say, I think Scilab hates me, he insisted before walking off to another sector.

Venturing further into the Science Labs network, Recon happened upon a rather interesting sight. Four towers with massive coils built atop them, sparking massive electrical arcs between them, with voltages in the millions. In the middle of the four towers, a duo of electrical balls fueled the towers through the ground, by way of transferring their energy into the green-glowing ground, linked to the towers. They were flanked by two Satellites, which spread their green scanning beam across the areas, trying to shoot down any intruders that tried to, well, intrude.

This new setup was overwhelming to the poor navi that came upon it. A structure consisting of four towers that looked almost like large versions of his arm before he used his Zapring. The arcing electricity that travelled between the poles was the least of his troubles; below the flowing energy was two yellow oval-shaped virii, along with two machine-type virii hovering in mid-air. The resulting quadrio of enemies had Recon worried.

Steve looked at the setup with glee; not because of Recon's to-be misfortune, but because he could be useful in this situation. Finally, I can be of assistance, he alerted his comrade. The ones in the middle are Eleballs; get too close and they'll deal you a hefty whack. The sky virii are Satellites; they can hit you no matter where you are. I think, he added, his memory a little hazy. I'm sure you already know the predicament you're in, he finished before reaching for the first chip choice.

Yeah, more bloody metal panels and electricity, Recon groaned as he quickly ran the figures through his head. Three hits and I'm toast, he analysed.

Exactly, Steve replied, so the faster you take them out, the less chance you have of getting hit. Focus too much on attacking, though, and they'll fry you before you finish your first attack run. The first chip was already in his fingers and on its way to Recon. I'm starting to wonder if this chip is the reason why the virii keep getting stronger, but for now it's got to be it, he reasoned as the curved wooden implement transformed into the navi's hand.

What's your thoughts? the targeting system requested. Since it couldn't help Recon's aim, at least it could provide tactical advice.

I'll take out the middle virii first, and maybe use that structure for defense, Recon answered as he slid his fingers to the end of the blade. The towers were going to make this shot difficult: if they weren't in the way, Recon would have a clear shot. He'd have to rely on the backcurve to make it through the gap between the sides. Pulling his arm backwards into position, the black hellraiser thrust the weapon forward and released his hold, allowing the wood to fly off to the left. After a few seconds, its bended structure caused the trajectory to change and move through the field and towards the centre of the solar field. As it flew, Recon realised that its flight path may catch the orbiting Satellite on the left, but his timing was too late to adjust to guarantee it. Any damage would be a sheer accident now.

Satisfied with his offensive for now, Recon looked for a place to hide. The first tower to the right would hopefully provide protection from the first Satellite, as its aim would be blocked by the two towers in its way. The second Satellite, however, would have a clear shot. That could hopefully be fixed. Guard, please, he petitioned as he ran to the tower on the right. Being careful not to make contact with it, Recon set his sights on the opposing Satellite. His Guard came through with perfect timing, appearing at his side as he stopped at the tower's edge. He immediately positioned it in front of his head, hoping its location would repel the station's incoming fire. Of more concern though was whether any Eleballs could reach him from the other side of the tower.

Quickly attempting to eliminate the threat put out in front of him, Recon summoned a Boomerang to his side and threw it out towards the viruses. The metallic blade whirled around in an arc and hit the first virus, but missed the second on its return trip by a long shot. The virus didn't seem to respond, though, except for stopping its electrical charge into the ground. The Satellites sweeped their scanning beams around, but failed to catch Recon's presence, who immediately ducked for cover behind one of the arcing towers. Holding up a Guard, he prepared himself for another round...

Recon peeked around the corner to see what had gone down amongst the first vital moments of the battle. One Eleball had been eradicated, but its partner remained alive. It was no longer charging the floor, but instead gathering the electricity inside itself. To make matters worse, both Satellites had now been alerted to his presence. Recon quickly visualised his next move. It was stupid, no doubt about it, but the reward for pulling it off would be much better than the alternatives.

Blade me, he commanded Steve while remaining hidden behind the tower. His right arm was occupied with the shield, so the Sword he'd requested manifested itself out of his left arm. As it solidified, Recon tightened his grip on the Guard and stepped out of the shadows. Timing was essential; to avoid taking hits, he'd have to get moving immediately. Running towards the Eleball as fast as his legs would allow him, Recon locked his vision onto his target as he thrust the silver weapon forward. It sliced seamlessly through the air, intending to cut the yellow enemy in two by dealing it a critical hit. Recon's attention was quickly diverted to the Satellites, as he was now in the open and likely to be in the targeting range of both. Watching from the PET display, Steve was curious to see what Recon would do next.

Keeping the Sword would be potentially fatal, due to the distance between the two machines, so Recon dismissed the Sword and engaged the next move. Send me that funny red flying virus, Recon petitioned from within the glow of the solar panels. Catcher, he corrected himself as the red UFO appeared on the battlefield. Picking it up from the underneath, Recon was a little unsure as to how it would work. Practising its use first would have probably been a wise move, but now was not the time to dwell on it. The navi threw the virus in an underarm manner towards one of the Satellites. Maybe it knew how to do its job.

As Recon moved in to slash the remaining Eleball with his sword, he was thankful that he had remembered to pick up his shield as an electric burst exploded from around the virus' body. Luckily, the shield deflected the blow, allowing Recon to get his attack in and finish off the virus.

The satellite viruses each sent out a lock on, tracing the battlefield quickly. Recon was moving quickly enough to get past one, but the other locked on and began to hammer his body with shots [21]. The Catcher virus chip recorded the attack and prepared to play it back.

One of the hovering objects swung its laser to catch the assailant that had just deleted one of this comrades, but did so to no avail. Its remaining partner was much faster, and managed to score some hits across the navi's chest. Seven hits in total. I guess you were wrong, Steve chuckled. In fact, if you doubled your estimate on the amount of hits you'd take before being deleted, you'd still be out.

Recon was hardly amused. Grateful that he was wrong, but still, hardly amused all the same. At least the odds of victory were slowly curling back towards him. His next order of action was to decommission the Satellite responsible for his damage, seeing as how the only other remaining virus had already demonstrated its incompetancy. Requesting my Zapring, he repeated out loud. The chip responsible for saving his behind on many occassions arrived at the destination and morphed his right arm again, sliding his hand out of context and replacing it with the pair of pylons and charging coil. As electrical as before, he confirmed.

As it turned out, the Catcher didn't need any help from Recon whatsoever. It had recorded all the action that had occurred, and was charging itself up to mimic the same attack. It stared at Recon, waiting for some instruction on what to do next. The black navi simply raised his pylonic arm and pointed it at his next target. Open fire! he yelled. The RedUFO opened a small port on the front of its little ship and ejected wave after wave of the same damaging projectiles the Satellite had just spewed at Recon. Joining it in the madness, Recon ionized the electricity from the pylons into the base coil and charged it to full capacity. Once this was reached, he discharged the entire contents into a round doughnut-shape and repelled the contents in a timely manner towards the enemy.

The red ally, having completed its purpose, fizzled away into random strains of data and teleported away. Back to the PET or to the network, Recon wasn't sure. Either way, what was important now was how to deal with the remaining telecommunications virus. Retreating to safety was a good idea for now until he had next attacks ready. The coils that created a sort of decor around the solar panels had worked once before; it was the best bet for a successful evasion. Picking up the pace, Recon dashed to the giant column closest to the Satellite's left. A few more minutes, he leered to the foe as he hoped the coil hid him well enough.

Successfully copying the Satellite's attack, Recon ordered the UFO pseudo-virus to attack, launching a barrage of the Satellite's own bullets back at it, out of which nine hit of a total of ten. The subsequent ZapRing deleted the Satellite handily. Very fortunately for him, after all that racket, the other Satellite had not achieved its lock-on status on him yet, letting him safely escape behind one of the towers again.

Recon regained his composure behind the coil as he weighed up his options. His armour still had enough integrity to hopefully sustain another wave of damage, but his selection of remaining attacks was on the weak side. With all his critical-dealing chips expended for the moment, he was left only with a Cannon and Shotgun. These coils had been played a key part in his defense during the battle, but the Satellite was probably aware of this. This plan wouldn't last much longer.

Shotgun, please, he requested as he lined up where he imagined the object should be. As he positioned, he noticed that his inventory was poking out the sides; while they wouldn't take any damage themselves, his position would most definitely be compromised. After this battle, we need to discuss these things on my back, he reported to Steve as the Shotgun data merged with his systems and transformed his arm into a nicely-polished silver barrel.

Recon jumped out of cover and flipped back onto the Solar panels, hoping the sudden movement would decrease the chances of a lock-on from the enemy. As he flew, the targeting system started adjusting to confirm the shot trajectory. His gun stayed pointed forward towards the Satellite as he remained airborne. Upon landing, his targeting disks locked down, fixated and ready to fire, so that's what he did; the bullets released in a uniform manner, all flying madly towards their intended foe.

A shield wouldn't be much help against a rapid-firing setup, so before the rings of aim disappeared he pulled the sniper gun on his back forward onto his shoulder and corrected it to the same location as his previous attack. The sights rang true, so he pulled the trigger as a lone casing flung out of the back of the gun as the pellet hurtled out into the field.

With explosions occurring all around him and on him, Recon's vision was blurred for a few seconds. When his sight returned, he was surprised to find the Satellite gone. Odd, seeing as how the two attacks he'd launched weren't enough to destroy it completely.

Maybe it flew away, after seeing its companions deleted, he reasoned. An alert from the visor brought him back to reality, as it began locking onto something out of his sight. The direction of the aim seemed to be up, so he moved his head back to see what it was focusing on. As his eyeline moved, the rings came back into vision, stuck upon the surviving Satellite, flying high in the air.

Geez, how am I going to hit it that far away? he questioned Steve.

My goodness, Steve mumbled, shaking his head slightly as he did so. The last battlechip that would be of any help was the Cannon, so he pushed the chip into the reader and started uploading. Just let Ease take care of the distance, he instructed.

The Cannon mutated its way out of Recon's arm, taking shape to look like almost like a twin to the rocket launcher still attached to his back. It grinded and shifted into shape, and locked into position as Recon pointed up towards the sky. His sights co-ordinated with the targeting system, the same as always, except a new protocol jumped onscreen. The weirdest part for Recon was that as the icons merged on his vizor, he could feel the Cannon shifting, almost as if it was changing in response to the codes the EAAS was running. A quick alert, followed by a clearscreen function, informed him the changes were complete. Lock-on was once again established. All done, target in place, fire when r- but that's as far as it got as the navi had already unloaded the shot upwards into the sky, proceeding towards his last enemy.

Wow, that actually worked, Recon marvelled. Can I do that with the D-01? he asked his assistant.

No, sorry, it replied in an apologetic tone. Battlechips only, and only once per upload phase.

Too bad, he commented as he generated a specific code to unleash the generic Shield he was provided. It would only take one hit to break, so it was practically useless against a multi-hitting attack. However, with his temperament so low, one hit may be the difference between victory and defeat, so the Shield was gripped anyway, and the black soldier moved off his previous position in case the Satellite had evaded his fire.
