Mini-break in the Lab

Tennisman felt just as hurt as her but maintained his serious expression, "Jadia, I encountered a navi who looked exactly like you who was being attacked. She deleted one of her assailants before fleeing. I followed her here and found you."

He looked into her eyes welling up with tears.

"I... I do not know what to believe anymore." Tennisman stammered, pressing his palm to his forehead.

Then the look of frustration totally disappeared from his face and he took Jadia's hands in his own, dropping Deuce to the ground.

"Hey!" His racket barked.

With his usual stoic expression, he said to her, "I am truly sorry," while taking notice of her knuckles...
Tennisman looks down at her hands, trying to find any sort of evidence of trauma (from when a Navi looking just like her slashed a HeelNavi in two with one hand). Her hands are soft to the touch, her gloves look absolutely pristine, except for a few dark dots from the tears. Tennisman apologizes to Jadia, and they both meet eyes. Jadia stops crying, but her eyes are still watery from the tears. She holds tight to Tennisman's hands while she gazes into his eyes. Tennisman and Jadia are in their own little world. Just them, only them. It feels like a negative finding a positive, something so perfect. "I am truly sorry."

Good.
Jadia's grip on Tennisman's hands multiplies nearly 10-fold and almost crushing his fingers, all in the blink of an eye. She takes, or floats, a step back and twists to the right, dragging Tennisman off the ground and hurling him into the air in a shallow arc. Still shocked by the reaction, he could only go limp as he hit the ground and eventually slid to a stop. Deuce frantically yells to Tennisman and zips over to help him.

*wham!*
Deuce is blind-sided by the Prog and ,in a fashion similar to Tennisman, is sent flying. The pair is separated; Jadia bearing down on Tennisman, and Deuce being held off by the Prog. My, what a strange turn this was!

<(Battle #10: Love and Hate! Ready, Serve!)>
As Tennisman laid bewildered by this Jadia's sudden betrayal and subsequent thrashing, he couldn't help but also bask in the other feeling that filled him; the comforting knowledge that his suspicions were right and that this wasn't really her. However, something was still missing. He twitched his fingers and felt nothing. Deuce was gone. He got up a little to see Deuce being restrained by the Mr. Program - The same Mr. Program that he had tried so hard to keep alive at his own expense. But what really caught his eye was the fact that this Jadia was rushing towards him. His conscience still twinged at having to fight someone who looked like her, but he knew better.

"Doublebomb." Tennisman said, snapping his wrists up in a throwing motion with data streams trailing behind. The bombs finished materializing as he finished and were lobbed in gentle arcs, barring her path as they exploded violently together.

Sorry...

"Fireburn." Tennisman said next and directed one of his hands behind him.

Compressing the data into a short burst rather than a long wave of fire, he charged the chip beyond its original parameters and even added packets of his own data into the attack. He released the flame, which shot out like a jet engine and pushed him on a diagonal, sliding along a path of glass and away from the smoky clouds of his explosives. He quickly approached a metal line, prompting him to kick up his feet to catch the steel with his boots and break into a run towards his racket.

"I can't believe I had to fix you," Deuce said to his captor, "TWICE! Tennisman really knows how to pick'em. Now outta my way, shorty."

Before the Mr. Program could respond, Deuce spun rapidly and created a powerful but isolated tornado around himself that threatened to blow everything away. Just as he finished, Tennisman ran into range.

"Deuce." He said

"Took you long enough." Came the reply.

Tennisman pushed one hand down, while maintaining his run and summoned a tennis net behind him as he extended his other hand out to catch Deuce. His fist closed down around Deuce's grip and they both rolled forward, carried by the inertia of his enhanced dash. The tumble ended with Tennisman turning his body and sliding to a halt with both his heels and a single palm to slow him. For the first time, he properly faced both his enemies.

"Let us begin again." Tennisman said, straightening up his back, "Who are you?"

1 - Doublebomb Jadia (2 x 20 damage + blast 2)
2 - Fireburn1 boost (50 damage) + untapped power (15 damage)
3 - run towards Deuce
Deuce - Gust Mr. Prog
4 - Netplay (1-hit barrier + 60 heal)
5 - Grab Deuce
Deuce - Equip
((Congrats on becoming a Trainee!))

Jadia rushes towards Tennisman like a bird of prey going in for the kill, but is staved off by a pair of bombs that throw her back. She recovers, and lunges back towards Tennisman. She is just about in reach but Tennisman modifies a FireBurn chip to act like a rocket and boosts him out of the way. Deuce notices Tennisman's quick reaction and focuses on the prog in his way. He starts to spin rapidly as the Prog tries to shove him back. The rotation and the rapidly accelerating torrents of wind being kicked up knocks the Prog to the side.

Tennisman bolts towards his lost racket, and places down a protective net before scooping Deuce from the ground. The Prog quickly arms itself with a M-Cannon and fires, but the round hits the net and heals our still rattled hero. Tennisman rolls to a stop and adjusts his grip on Deuce as he calls out to Jadia.

"Let us begin again. Who are you?"

...
Jadia responds by lunging at Tennisman, and bludgeons him with an open-palmed slap. Granted, this slap felt like it was delivered by a sledgehammer.

((I just wanna ask, are the glass and metal lines parallel or perpendicular to Tennisman's line of sight?))
((Parallel))
Tennisman reeled back from the blow, unable to dodge in time. In doing so, he also gained enough space to swipe his racket and deliver a powerful retaliatory gust in Jadia's direction.

"I think we should consider eliminating that traitorous little program first," Deuce said.

As much as Tennisman wanted to question the Mr. Program and uncover his motives, the M-Cannon he was wielding was far too dangerous to leave on the field. He would have to follow Deuce's advice and stop it first.

Tennisman took note of the direct line of sight he shared with the program and immediately called out, "Shockwave."

"I hate this." Deuce said and braced himself with a barrier.

With a quick flick of his wrist, Tennisman spun Deuce upside down and gripped the inverted handle tightly. He stabbed the panel in front of him with the face of his racket and sent a surge of power into the ground. The glass reacted violently to the attack, exploding upwards with bursts of razor shards as the wave continued down the line, straight towards the program. But not content to rely on the single attack, Tennisman sidestepped onto the adjacent metal path, flipped Deuce over again and followed up with an Ace Serve. He struck one ball mid-dash and continued to send the rest as he strafed around his target.

"Just a reminder," Deuce added, "No one we've fought thus far has been stopped by a gust of wind."

Not catching Deuce's point right away, he turned and saw her before he realized that Jadia was still the main threat. Tennisman couldn't see a viable escape route from his position and stood his ground.

"Aquaneedle and Kunai." Tennisman said, sounding almost random in his chip selection.

But there was a purpose. Bits of data trailed out from his palm and solidified into a handful of blades just as the first needle fell from the sky. It crashed down behind her in a loud clank, striking the unyielding steel plate below. Tennisman launched the first blade with deadly precision.

"Oh! You are not from Yumland? No?"

The second needle landed as Tennisman flicked another kunai at her like a dart.

"Not blame people! Please! Is good place!"

Finally, the last spire dropped with a sharp whistle as it descended. He only had one dagger remaining and charged forward with it to meet his opponent head on. Regardless of whether it was truly Jadia or merely a copy, he could not let her go free.

"Shenki Tennisman! I am Jadia! Please come see me again!"

There was nothing left to consider.

Deuce - gust Jadia away
Deuce - Overwrap (40 HP barrier)
1 - Shockwave Mr. Program (40 damage + glass blowing up)
2 - dodge to the side
3 - Ace Serve Mr. Program (4 x 30 damage)
4 - Aquaneedle Jadia (3 x 20 damage) + untapped power on the last hit (15 damage)
5 - Kunai1 (3 x 30 damage)
Tennisman uses Deuce to blast the pursuing Jadia away, and armors up to face the Prog. Tennisman and the Prog react immediately, the racket-wielding Navi sending out a shockwave towards the Prog, and the Prog sending an M-Cannon blast in return. Due to the Prog's short stature, the brunt of the blast is taken by Deuces shield, and the rest taken by Deuce himself. The shockwave tears through the ground, blasting shards of glass towards the Prog. The little green program is knocked backwards by the blast, and skids to a stop. It could only watch as it is covered in a wave of shattered glass. As the shimmering wall passes over it, the Prog hits the ground and jacks out.

Tennisman then attacks with a pair of three-fold attacks, one from above, and one directly in front of the rose hued Navi. Jadia is silent as she is struck by the blades. Her body is shoved by the force of the impacts, and is completely driven back by Tennisman's final strike. She is hurled backwards, rolling to a stop, her dress falling around her like an opening rose.

Tennisman stood over her limp body, trying to distance himself from her both physically and mentally. He stared down with a cold expression, all the while fighting the urge to scoop her up and protect her.

"I will not ask you again," He said in a solemn voice and asked, "Who are you?"
Tennisman stands cautiously over her body, and begins to question her. Her response is the same as every thing else: total silence. The silence is deafening, isolating the pair into a metaphysical cloud of torment and doubt. Then, as if on cue, she rises up from the ground and stares back at Tennisman. Her mouth twists into a wicked smile and she whips her arm forward. Tennisman is plenty far away to avoid a direct strike, but as she hastily draws her arm back, Deuce is ripped from Tennisman's hands! Deuce didn't even have enough time to speak before he was almost pared in two by Jadia's hand.

Deuce's program automatically beams him out of the network and back to the safety of the PET, but now our hero is without his ally once again. Jadia continues to smile at tennisman, and prepares to strike!

The time for talk was clearly over and getting answers no longer seemed to matter in light of Deuce's sudden departure. He was disarmed but not discouraged. Tapping into his core programing, he extended his arm and materialized his original racket back into existence.

He wasn't called Tennisman for nothing.

He snatched it out of the air and prepared himself for round two. His old racket was a little lighter than Deuce and possessed no special attributes. It couldn't speak, it couldn't heal, and it couldn't protect him any better than his own arm, but it could hit a ball and that was all he really needed.

"Lilbomb and Doublebomb." Tennisman said.

"Man, what are you doing?" Desmond shouted back, "Use gun chips! What are you trying to prove!?"

Tennisman dodged back to avoid Jadia's charge but refused to utter another word.

"Tch," Desmond sounded, "FINE!"

A sphere appeared in Tennisman's free hand for only a fraction of a second before it was tossed to his racket and smashed towards Jadia's feet. The bomb touched the ground beneath her and exploded into a wide rolling cloud of smoke. Two more bombs found themselves in his grip as he continued to keep his distance from her. He didn't want to serve them yet and kept them in his palm, cycling them around one another with his nimble fingers.

"Yo. Deuce's data was saved just in time. It'll take a while to fix up the data but he'll be okay." Desmond reported.

Tennisman nodded and flipped one of his Doublebombs sideways and swatted it with horizontal swing. Another large cloud of smoke and the loud boom erupted from the impact. There wasn't much use in keeping the last bomb by itself and it too was sent flying at Jadia in an overhead smash.

Once he was out of explosives, Tennisman changed his stance to accomdate a double-handed grip, which usually signalled a powerful attack or in this case, a counter. In his mind, she wouldn't be content to chase him around the field like this and he was baiting her into using a ranged attack if she had one.

"Guard," Desmond chimed in, "I got it."

There was a minor feeling of relief on Tennisman's part in not having to explicitly give away his tactics, even in private.

1 - dodge
2 - Lilbomb Jadia (50 damage + blast 2) + untapped power (15 damage)
3 - dodge
4 - Doublebomb Jadia (2 x 20 damage + blast 2)
5 - Guard1 (reflect 60)
Jadia hurls herself towards Tennisman, and drew her arm back to strike. However, instead of following through, she bolts off in a different direction and avoids the bomb being thrown towards her. However, due to her odd movement, her strike was only a grazing hit. She re-engages Tennisman, only to to miss again and get blasted by a pair of bombs. She then brings her fist up and brings it down on the Tennisman's shield. The shield shatters under the pressure of her fist, but not before it blasts her with a bolt of energy. She is blown away by the blast, her fist barely missing Tennisman's head. She hits the ground again, and goes still again.

"FINISH HER!" Desmond shouted, "FINISH HER NOW! DO IT!"

Tennisman was still panting from the exchange of blows, but recognized her possum trick from earlier. There was no way he would fall for it twice in a row, but there seemed to be no stopping her. Everytime he knocked her down, she would simply get back up. Tennisman wondered if winning was even an option.

"KATANA! SLOT-IN!" Desmond added.

A moment later, Tennisman found his racket taking on a bladed edge. He couldn't afford to waste any time and quickly made his way to where her body laid. He flipped his racket upside down again, holding it in a reverse fashion, gripping the handle with both hands. The sharp tip of his modified racket dangled over her navi emblem.

This time there was no hesitation as he plunged the weapon straight down.

1 - Run to Jadia's position
2 - Katana1 Jadia (2 x 60 damage)
3 - Katana1 Jadia (2 x 60 damage)
4 - dodge
5 - dodge
Tennisman charges towards the downed Jadia, and stops above her body. He inverts his racket, and prepares to plunge the racket into her chest. He then drives the tennis racket straight down, and it stops as a light spray of blood erupts from beneath the blade. Tennisman's blood-spritzed face changes to an expression of surprise and horror as he notices Jadia's bloody hands clamped down firmly on the tennis racket! Her right leg sweeps across the floor, swiping tennisman's legs out from under him, and Jadia throws him up and over her body.

Tennisman manages to stop his chaotic spinning fall and touch down, still determined to end this fight once and for all! He charges again towards Jadia, and prepares his second slash. He manages to get the jump on Jadia, but the sharpened racket swipes a little bit above her her right shoulder as Jadia jumps away. He continues to pursue Jadia, sending another slash her way. A tiny flash, more like a shimmer flickered above her head as she scoots out of the way, and responds with a strong left slap to Tennisman's back. He tries a second slash, nicking her abdomen and putting a large tear in her blouse. She then switches to the attack and comes in with a flurry of jabs, only a single one managing to hit its mark.

The pair finally separate, Tennisman barely hanging on at one end, and Jadia on the other; her right arm hanging completely limp...

It wasn't immediately obvious what was going on until Tennisman started putting the pieces together; her odd flying ability, her repeated revivals and finally, that thin shimmering flash above her head. He was in critical condition and couldn't afford to make another mistake.

Luckily Desmond was there to provide a useful reminder, "Yo! Netplay!"

Tennisman practically collapsed to the ground in a crouching manner with both palms spread outwards. There was a surge of data that pulsed into the floor, manifesting into a tennis net that covered him. Between the holes in the wide net, he looked out to his opponent to verify his theory. He couldn't be sure but there was simply nothing else to go on. He had to trust his instinct.

"Boomerang." Tennisman said weakly.

"That's so weak!" Desmond argued, "I still have Elecpulse and a Windracket!"

Neither of those chips suited the purpose he had in mind but he didn't have the strength to talk back. He took the time to aim the attack with his racket, imagining the course it would take. As usual, Desmond relented and sent the requested chip.

Tennisman charged his racket with the chip data and with what little power was left in his legs, kicked himself back and slashed the air. The Boomerang wave splashed out from the racket's face and spun up high to meet Jadia's head but continued to climb in altitude.

"IT'S TOO HIGH!" Desmond shouted, "YOU MISSED! ELECPUL-"

Tennisman cut off his operator, "Game set."

1 - Netplay (1-hit shield + heal 60)
2 - Take aim
3 - Boomerang above Jadia (60 damage) + untapped power (15 damage)
4 - dodge
5 - dodge
Tennisman prepares to attack Jadia with the boomerang, but sets up a tennis net between them. Jadia charges towards Tennisman, clearing the the net and preparing to attack him. He then was forced to improvise, extending his right arm forward as far as he can, barely holding on to the blade as he falls backwards. The pair collides, Jadia falling on top of Tennisman. They both lie still, but Tennisman groans from the aches all over his body. Jadia also begins to move, and stares down at Tennisman with a confused look on her face.

T-t-tennisman? Are you okay?!? What happened?!?

In an uncontrollable reaction, Tennisman immedately backed away from Jadia holding his racket in front of him as if ready to continue fighting. In reality, if she so much as sneezed on him, he would have been forced to execute an emergency jack-out. He was battered and tired and he couldn't keep up his farce. He dropped his racket down to the ground and slumped forward in a sitting position.

Breaking his word, he couldn't help but ask again, "...Who are you?"
Veshneeck, didn't I tell you before? Or you forget? I'm Jadia, silly Tennisman!
Jadia slides off Tennisman and sits down next to Tennisman and props his head and shoulders up gently. Her hands feel soothing, almost like they were slowly healing our racket-wielding hero.
Let's get out here, no?
There was little point in doubting her now. Regardless of whether or not she was the real Jadia, she was healing him and that was good enough. If she really wanted to delete him, she would have done so by now.

Tennisman sighed in relief. He had been right that she was being controlled. He couldn't think of what would have happened if he had been wrong. He needed to rid himself of his idle thoughts.

He asked more questions to break his current mindset, "How did you get here?"
You must have hit head hard, for I explain before. There was a strange hole in the ground, a port... portal! And I think it made me fall in. Then I found you here, and you were holding my hands... and then...

She pauses, trying to make sense of what happened, desperate to remember what took place between then and now.
.. I must have tripped and fallen on you. But how did I rip my dress...?
She stares at her torn blouse, trying to piece together her spotty memory.
